- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: Hey bro!
- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to MMTV NFL podcast.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Conoror, here in New Jersey, that's Albert Brewer over there, and that's Jesus and Albert, still flying high from a big weekend of college football.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not going to name the ESPN personality, but let me just say that someone tried to make this weekend all about them and drag college game day out to Pittsburgh and say, Oh, you know, we're going to weed hinsors, we're going to upset, bye bye bye bye bye, trap game noted in.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: After that, business like performance from Marcus Freeman and the Irish, and we remain in the playoff hunt, despite everybody else's attempts to make this get their pound of flesh for it, so I, you know, nothing can drag me down at this point.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: We're going for it.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we had, um, we had another controlled skirmish on Saturday against, uh, against UCLA.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's a good drill, it's a good image.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: We have a manager, we got a manager.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we got, we out here state you this weekend.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I think we're going to arrest Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate for permission in this weekend.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, this is like, I don't know.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: I, it's been a weird college football season for me because it was like, you had the Texas game,
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: and then it's like nothing's even been closed since i don't know what our closest game is over the course of that time i'm gonna look it up now but it's um i mean there's no excuse to lose in in 12 days anyway but like i mean the closest game i'm looking at it now well maybe 24 to 6
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: So that there's one 18 point win, a 34 to 16 and another 18 point win.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, those are the two closest games.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I would argue that that's just a stuff fun, you know?
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: And this is the same thing that you should just not find.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's not fun, it's like I mean, you and I've talked a lot about the growth.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to be a better father, right?
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: We'll say that.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know,
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's one of those things where it's like, you know, every Sunday you just expect to dominate flawlessly and it's like when you get to the end of like a role playing video game and you're already at level 99 There's no grind left.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like every game is an ass kicking and Notre Dame does a great job of just making it entertaining for the fans every week There is a moment in that game where you're 200% positive you're gonna lose every god damn week and
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I mean, it was slow going at the beginning.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I would say I was trepidacious about this for a little while, uh, more so going into it.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, there were those moments against Navy, there were those moments to get, you know, any school that you play, they're going to just scare the bejesus out of you for a couple minutes.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure Sarah keeps is going to give us a heart attack this weekend too.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm looking at my TV right now, Ryan under, uh, like over the Chiron, what are the biggest takeaways from she do our Sanders?
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: Shoulder Sanders.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: Listen, how about this?
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: How about this?
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we're going to get into it now.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I got a ticket picture of this.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we're going to get into it now and we're going to go through some of the more important games will probably breeze through some of the laughers here, but our goal for the rest of the show is we each get to we each get one shitter Sanders mentioned and that's it.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to cut it.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: I thought we're going to have more fun with it.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we'll get there.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get to it.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: This is not a tie.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: It should not lead the show.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm putting my foot down.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: This is a like we get to talk about it now.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: But here's where I want to start and I think it's a little bit different just because.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of just still blown away by it, but I think this is a really good thing.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: The chiefs lost to the Broncos, and they're now five and five.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: And most of the playoff analytics, this point showed them as about a 50% chance of reaching the playoffs.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: For your life, that's a good thing.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: What's that?
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: Well, here's what I want to say.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry we can get there.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, alright, let's get there.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: But I want to just set it up by saying this.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: They have lost head to head games to every single wild card team, all three of them.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: That are ahead of them in line.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and They're five and five.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: They have them up in five and five since 2015 and that was the team that started one in five Then one like 11 straight games with Alex Smith.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay Was that the team maybe blew the big lead in the playoffs to Andrew luck or no, no, no, probably not
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, what have been on the 13 team?
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think I got it earlier, yeah.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, they're 0 in 5 now, Albert and 1 score games after being 11 and 0 in 1 score games.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: And so my thought is this, because it's, I think everybody's kind of scrambling for a big picture thought here about like, this is the end, this is this, this is that, here's what it is.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm curious if you agree with me.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: This is the AFC West.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: refusing to behave like the AFC Eastern when the Patriots were dominating because what did the AFC East do?
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: Every year the teams just lost their god damn minds like Rex Ryan had a good season and then they're like let's bring in plaxical Burris and Derek Mason and all these other guys and then they blew up right and then the dolphins let's have a good season under Adam Gace and then they blew it up let's have Brian Flores come in and then they blew it up right
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: This is a good conversation, though, because I, this, this is like my theory on it for 20 years, Bill Bellach, I can Tom, Tom Brady, D stabilize the AFC East.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: And here's the reason why, right?
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: The reason why was over all of those years, access to the division title was gone.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: So the, the path you had to walk to make the playoffs was much narrower.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: So the chances of you making the playoffs were a lot less than it would be in some other division where in a random year nine games might win the division, right?
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: So then you had these teams scratching to get into playoffs.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: You don't make the playoffs.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: You probably firing the coach before you should, even if he is making progress.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: And so now you're turning over coaches, that's affecting the development of all of your players in particular your quarterbacks and turns into this vicious cycle where over and over and over again, because the Patriots were up there at 14 wins, 13 wins, 12 wins, there was just it cut all those other teams off at the knees, I think the difference now and in the AFC West now is the quality of the coaches.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think that's where it starts and that and we can give us a quarterbacks too, but like, I mean, I thought the last place team has a suitable one in coach, you know what I mean?
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh are very viable rivals.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: What was the closest thing Belichick had to that in the AFCs?
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: It was right, right?
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: Sabin?
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: I guess, I mean, I think, I mean, it turned to rhyme for me.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to rhyme for me.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to rhyme for me.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: It turned to rhyme for me.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: It turned to rhyme for me.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to rhyme for me.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to rhyme for me.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to rhyme for me.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to rhyme for me.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to rhyme for me.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to rhyme for me.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to a rhyme for me.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to a rhyme for me.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to a rhyme for me.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to a rhyme for me.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to a rhyme for me.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to a rhyme for me.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to a rhyme for me.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to a rhyme for me.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to a rhyme for me.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to a rhyme for me.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: It turned to a rhyme for me.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I just, you know, you, you, you look at like kind of how those franchise were destabilized.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's that, that's an excellent first point on this is that that division, you don't have like, okay, like we can tiptoe through to November and still turn it on and win the division, like that's not the same as it was for New England for all those years.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: was up for grabs.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: More than teams would have allowed themselves to believe.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think a lot of it was psychological back then.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, think about how much Rex talked about the Patriots and obsessed over the Patriots and made them this whole thing and then even the McDermott was there.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: If you saw a Patriot's guys on the sideline, you were flipping them out and flipping out and trying to throw them off the field and like they were in everybody's head.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I think what was cool about the AFC West is like, No, man, I'm going to go get Jim Harbaugh and I'm going to get John Payton.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: And FU, I'm not, I'm not worried about it anymore.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I was going to say.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: Aren't Payton Harbaugh, the ultimate two ultimate FU coach.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's, yeah, and that's great.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's like they're not, I mean, they're like, those guys are not going to be intimidated.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that's what you needed to do.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe maybe other coaches, good established coaches didn't take jobs in the AFC East back then because they thought it a fool's errand, but I think the best thing that could have ever happened to football.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: and possibly to the chiefs because this is going to force them to step their game up to was the arrival of hardball and payton because and if you're saying like what is this necessarily have to do with Sunday and the Bronco's beat the chiefs on Sunday.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: I have to mention that I have something directly to do with Sean Payton.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: Right and that is something directly to do with it does have something directly to do with Sean Payton.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: But Sean Payton beat
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: the chiefs in his first year with Russell Wilson.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: Jim Harbaugh was swept by the chiefs his first year, but then beat the chiefs in the opener this year.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: And what you're doing is you're just slowly chipping away at the mystique of this team and you're showing other teams blue prints on how to beat them, how to contain my homes, how to slow the offense down because you're team.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: Because you're a good coach, like Sean Payton, right?
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: Another good coach is going to follow you and be the defensive coordinator in Vance Show.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: So Vance is going to leave him, he's going to be a head coach again after this year.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: And same with Jim Harbon, Jesse Mentor, right?
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: You're good coaches.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to get out of their good coaches.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: And all of a sudden, you're just reducing that margin of success that the chiefs have and to your point was able to allow them to tiptoe.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Now they can't tiptoe anymore.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's great.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's good for the NFL Aber.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: We last year,
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: was kind of embarrassing.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like for it to have them go 11 and 0 and 1 score games and to look as bad as they did and then to get blown out in the Super Bowl.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: That's not good.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's not good for anybody.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I, you know, I honestly like it.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's fair to say Buffalo is the best team last year and like in the last year really was Buffalo's time last year was Buffalo that that was one Buffalo I think was set up to break through and I mean they almost did it like you know I mean Josh Allen somehow got that ball.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was the Dalton Kink Aid right like where I mean Kink Aid probably should have caught that ball.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: If he catches that ball do they win that game
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, so I guess that close and we're talking about those sorts of margins and and look like I think there's another piece this to that eventually the Patriots wound up feeling that I think the chiefs are starting to feel too, which is just the amount of damage you take on, you know,
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: So if you're talking about three or four extra games every single year and a worth the point now where that's added up to a full season.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: So they've played a full extra season, you know, beyond what everybody but beyond what most other teams have done.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's that element of taking everyone's best shot, being everyone's proof at game every single week.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: Teams can turn their season around by beating you.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: Teams can prove who they are by beating you.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: Teams can affirm their status and the lead.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: And it's interesting because I had that conversation with Sean McDermott last night after they beat the box.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: And we were talking about how, like, they have turned into that, right?
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, where, like, Buffalo is a big game for everybody.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, New England earlier in the year, like, their proof of a game was at Buffalo.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: That was just another game for the bills, right?
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: They play the Dolphins last week.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of like, we're Buffalo can get caught in trap.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: That's a season saver for my, you know, like, so Buffalo is adjusting to the fact that like,
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, like they've got the rating MVP, they've been an AFC championship games like now they're everyone's big game and so there's an adjustment that comes with that and that you've got to get used to like every single week someone's getting up for your someone's big game every week.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: There's almost like you can see like I don't know how I want to put this it's almost like you can see like a little bit of fatigue like you know what I mean like I think is probably the best way to phrase it on the way that the chiefs carry themselves into every one of these games where they walk into these amped up environments and it's like it I almost feel like you can see it like where it's like
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the energy of the other team and you see the energy of the other team and it's like the chiefs are just dragging themselves out for another 12 round fight, you know, it's just I think there's there's an element of that that over time.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: overtime can really kind of catch up to you like did the jackson bill on that Monday night like how it was that project well that's just another game for the chiefs you know what I mean I think it's sorry I think it's something that just it takes time to it takes time to to to to adjust to that and then once you've adjusted to do it there is like a toll at the damage takes you know if you've been playing in those sorts of fights every single week
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: On the Broncos side, I mean, this is one of those, you know, I heard somebody say, like, oh, they're going to be our right barring injury at, you know, at a key offense of position.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, I mean, I think they could get hurt at a key offense of position and be totally fine.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I mean, if we're talking about barring injury, they're like,
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: without one of the top ten players in the league with our list of position right now right?
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: And Vince just has even just keeps playing better.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: And he has this simplistic yet complex formula where you never know who's rushing you as a quarterback.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: And that's never a lot less like they're written in their list.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_01]: And some of the third down pressures that he called yesterday were just so on point.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Albert, I don't want to overstate it at this point, but I think if we're talking about tapins for who's going to become a head coach this next year, I mean, vance to me.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's something that leads back.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, vance is up in the list.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm Sean Payton right now.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I'm looking on my staff and seeing as there's somebody
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: All right, like now, I think Vance is earning himself the second shot.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: I give him a ton of credit too.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like...
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, you know, like we're talking big picture here with Vijay, like the fact that he was low ego enough to go back to the place that fired him, you know what I mean?
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like we're he had a really awkward weird two years and now we come like sort of this this conquering hero is the defense of coordinator's awesome and I think that makes him a more attractive head coach and candidate you're getting a really mature guy, you know, who's who's been through it, who you know can handle it, yeah.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know, and this is a guy too, who if you remember at the beginning was Sean like a lot of people wanted to fire Sean stuck by him, you know, it wasn't there was 70 point game in there, right?
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you remember that couple of years, you know, so, yeah, I mean, VJ has done a great job and they're so balanced defensively too.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: I mean balanced indeed, I think is what I think of, you know, because without, you know, without without certain they still have,
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: Moss and McMillan and and and Baron the rookie who started to play really well.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't have singlets in out there.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: You think of the past wrestlers and they do it with, you know, multiple guys up front Zach Allen obviously was a huge addition for them a couple years ago, but like to develop their own and
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they don't have a mile scare up, but Nick Benito and Jonathan Cooper, like I said, like if you want to talk about typifying like what relentless is with that group, like those guys off the edge are relentless.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's an impressive group to watch.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: They keep the pressure on you at all times, and I mean to be able to stand up to patch up my homes in the fourth quarter the way that they did, I think it's like.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: The cool thing about it is so I was talking to one of their guys last night and you know he's talking about he's talking about Sean and the job Sean's done and how maybe the best work that he's done has been.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know at the at the toughest moments.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if you remember there was a game that was very similar to this one in the middle of last year, Connor remember that one where they wanted to have been will lots got a 35 year field goal blocked.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: and it looked like they were finally going to beat.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like they were finally going to beat the chiefs and get over the hump and all that.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: And so that dropped them to five and five and at that point, I want to say they were 13 and 14 on and like for the Sean Peyton era, right?
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: So for the first year and a half of Sean Peyton they were 13 and 14 at that point.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: And my understanding is that that shungam in the locker room afterwards.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, you guys are right there.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: I believe in you.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: I believe in what we're doing.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: And he had a way of kind of galvanizing the group.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: And since then they're 14 and 4.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: And this was significant because for them,
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: What do they beat them on this time?
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: A 35-yard, well, what's field goal?
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: So it's the same sort of scenario and this time they get over the hump.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, you know, everybody's going to make these things about the quarterback and it kind of frustrates me sometimes because people almost talk about it like it's one-on-one basketball.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: This is a really complete football team.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and it's not like they don't have issues.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: They've got to get certain back and losing JK dominance is a huge blow because that's going to affect the way that you use Harvey, you know?
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: But it's just a tough old school.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, people don't think of Sean as old school, but this is a very old school tough football team, you know?
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's not my house.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: In this word, it is.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's hard to talk about it.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, aggressive all that.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get going because we got we have there were so many gigantic games You know Albert this weekend like and and this is like this is when the NFL turns the corner and they're like It's very cute baseball that you had the world series and everybody was way into that now Let me just stomp on your throat here because that's what's so crazy about this I don't even know where to go next, but I want to go to Sunday football because you and I had the same reaction to this the Eagles beat the line 16 to nine and
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: first and foremost, and it's not even close to a conversation as to what else is important here.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: The lines run defense, they held the Eagles, okay?
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's third down, and just this ridiculous
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't even see any contact on AJ Brown.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad I'm glad you sent, right?
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad Chris Collins was said something.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: He's mostly a company man in terms of, you know, what goes on on those broadcasts, but he lost it.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think collectively, everybody outside of Philadelphia lost it.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: I was like a visceral response, too.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my, was it almost like he was holding it in?
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: And he had been holding it in and it was just like boom, there it is, you know?
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: So, um, first of all, I, what is replace is there for?
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, like, this is like, this to me is like, when you buzz down, and this is why having someone upstairs would help, because if you have somebody upstairs who's got a, some level of power over the game, is focused just on one game, not on some command center where they have social media up.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: Um, then, like, then that I don't, that I think this, this sort of thing can get taken care of.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: A game should not end this way, and, you know, I, I'm going to advocate now for taking officiating down to the studs.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: The problem is, is that they're still officiating games the way that they did in the 70s.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: they've just taken the technology and the resources and added.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: So they're just piling all this stuff on, right?
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: Meanwhile, they're changing rules, and they're doing this, and they're doing that, and I'll give you an anecdote, and people think that this is just a fan thing, it's not, okay?
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I did that poll as I always do, my mid-season awards poll, you know?
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like where I text the, I text the,
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: I text, you know, GMs and VP's a player personnel and pros guy and directors across League and having vote on the awards, well, one thing I do as part of that when I send those text out is I say, like, hey, is there one emerging trend in the NFL or something that you've noticed that you think, like, that that you think is underrated or should be mentioned.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: a bunch of guys without any prompting whatsoever said, officiating.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's inconsistent.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's not being communicated to us correctly.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: It is a mess.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: So this is not just me and you on a podcast.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: This is not just Joe Blow on social media, complaining about the officials because we have more angles than we ever had or because everything's crystal clear.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: This is people in the league that are not happy with the state of officiating.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: And the worst thing is no one's being held accountable.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: because all the NFL cares about is the PR fallout and really the way things have gotten to the point they are now, where you have the replacements assist, but it's inconsistent sometimes they use it sometimes they don't.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's because all they're worried about is like we just don't want officiating to be on like get up or on whatever on Monday morning, right?
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like we just we just want to avoid that conversation, right?
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: And that becomes your primary concern.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: What are you going to do?
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're going to keep patching holes.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_00]: All right, there's a hole here.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to patch it.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_00]: There's a hole there.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to patch it until
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like the force of the force of all this water that's gotten under the bridge comes and hits the wall on top.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think we're at that point now.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: where, you know, like, it's, you've, you've bastardized this dies this thing and complicated and tangled it up so many different ways that you're using like a 1970s infrastructure with 20, 25 technology and it doesn't work.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: And so like, you put the officials in an impossible position, right, like where they know they've got big brother in their year.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: and they're looking for 15 different new things every year.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: These are all points of emphasis to the competition committees giving them because no one can sit still because everybody's got to justify their jobs.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: So you've got all these new rules.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_00]: The game's moving faster and faster and faster.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: So you train your eyes to see one thing.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: Now you've got to see all these different things because of all the rules changes, right?
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just, it's a mess, it's a mess.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: And the NFL has to come to grips with the fact that it's a mess and what they have to do.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe this, maybe you can't do this in one off season.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: But what they have to do is at some point, they have to look at it and say, you know what?
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: We've got all these new technologies, we've got all these new resources, we've got all this stuff that we can use that we can never use before.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: So what we need to do is we need to evaluate everything, and we need to reimagine officiating in 2025, and reimagine the way that we do all of this, because this isn't two 70-year-olds with carrying sticks across the field anymore.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's not the day and age we're in anymore.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: And so I don't know, maybe it means like reimagining over the course of a couple of years, but what they're doing right now clearly isn't working.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: And because they're also worried about the PR of it, they're more worried about controlling reaction, right, controlling the message than they are about actually fixing the problem.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: They are so lucky.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: That's a lot, but you know,
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: So that happened in prime time and they're lucky that most fans aren't like us and are sitting there glued to a television for the better part of 14 hours on Sunday because in the Madrid game.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: a worse passive interference was called a depot Samuel and Mike McDaniel so this is how bad it is.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: Mike McDaniel could not be restrained by his getback coach who by the way I met his getback guy Drew security officer former Miami police detective tough MF or big guy okay.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: If Mike McDaniel is so mad that you can't grab him and get him back on the sidelines, think about how bad of a passenger appearance call that is.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Mike's a winery guy.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to give him more credit than other people.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_01]: But like this is an embarrassing sleepwalking stretch of football right now on the officiating front.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe this just ranks how these guys get picked for big playoff games
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: This stuff comes to a head and then the solution is ultimately to just kind of swallow your whistle in the layoffs or in the big game and the super ball was a little bit different because right at the beginning of the game last year There's a really bad pass in her parents called the benefit of the chiefs and then the next drive there was the makeup call and then they backed out for like the rest of the game and they're like we're just not touching the whistle I almost think that's better like you should almost go I was reading an interview
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: with a Supreme Court justice the other day.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: And they were defining like such clear and obvious that everybody in the world stands up and is like, holy shit, we can't have that.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like that should end up just being the bar because we don't want all this stuff.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's over-complicated.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe that's the, you know, the bar for this whole report that you're talking about.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: If a guy's getting his face mask twisted and he can't see, he's looking out of his earhole, throw flag.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: If holding is so bad that you're seeing the jersey come off throw flag, if a guy is standing over the ball on defense, throw the flag.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: But otherwise, let's get back to the beauty of the physicality and of football and of the flow of the game and get these guys out of it.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's just ridiculous.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's, I think there's, there's an easier way to do this.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I think having a sky judge would be very helpful because it's, it's patently insane.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: the idea that you and me and I'm looking up my screens that I watch football on every Sunday, right?
- 27:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like they you and me can sit here at home and get the benefit of 12 different cameras and crystal clear HD.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: And a moment's notice we can see almost anything that we need to see.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: And you're not fully giving that benefit to the officials on the field, which is what a sky judge would do.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: And they've tiptoed around it.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: They don't want to fully do it.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like I said, like we can have a car wash for him if they need to raise the money.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: I have to add an extra official to every crew, you know, because I mean, we don't need to get into the private equity in my mindset of the owners now, where like pretty single expense, every single
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: there's got to be a better way to do it.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and I think it does include using the technology, but I think it includes using the technology and an intelligent way where you've got somebody who maybe the coaches don't have full access to, but who is helping raise the level of accountability for the crew in general.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and I mean, like I just, I understand like for a long time part of like the resistance on that was like well, like will the coaches have a will the coaches have access to these guys during the game, which is like, you know, okay, like so you want the referees to be accountable to coaches got it like that's that's that's a fair concern.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: Connor like seven or eight years ago the coach has turned on that you know what I mean we'd rather have it be fair You know what I mean like we'd rather have like them get these calls right because their job security You know their job security rides on it and and all they're asking for is the very best that that that that that everybody can do
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I know there are more than a few people in the league that feel like the NFL is not doing the very best to can do.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: And almost that it's whether it's intentional, whatever, like they don't want to...
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: they don't want to flip over the apple cart on on the way these games are officiated but your resources are better than it than they used to be you've got the ability to again see these things for so many different angles now and use the technology effectively just do it and this is going to you don't this is going to take it's going to take putting together maybe a 12 man committee
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: of people who are really invested in the game, like your own version of the NAD and committee, and having them look at different solutions and putting a couple of long time officials, maybe a Dean Blending, or whoever it is on that committee and saying, how can we officiate these games more effectively with everything that we have to officiate them?
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, almost feels the virtual measurement is like a fucking toy at this point.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, I swore there, but it's almost You know that way though, because it doesn't like it.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's not faster.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's like, um, it's like when you have coffee, like if you stay at a friend's house and, uh,
- 30:29[SPEAKER_01]: and then they make a big deal out of the fact that they have like a milk milk for author at their house and like you know that they don't use it every day but then when they're over they want you to know that they have one so like every now and then the NFL's like oh let's break out virtual measurement like hello it's okay we're using the technology guys see we're doing everything we can like so that's the whole thing about it though is like this is like the way they're treating
- 30:55[SPEAKER_00]: The Ray, they're treating a fit officiating.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's like they're building a movie set instead of the actual house.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 31:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, far away it looks like a fully functional operation.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then you know, you walk up closer to it, and you see now, like that isn't real.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like you were just kind of putting window dressing on everything, you know?
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: It just feels that way to me.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I don't get how you can't have.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like, so how many games could possibly be taking place over the course of a weekend at Max 16, right?
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: So you don't have 16 guys, 16 officials that you like enough, where they graduate to like, you know, president official or whatever, gold official, gold or whatever.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: And that guy is in the booth for emeritus, respiratory emeritus, whatever it is, right?
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, vintage and chaffers and like all your A guys, guys who've done the super balls, right?
- 31:56[SPEAKER_01]: and you can mix blend, you know, and there, and you can take a couple of these guys and mix them in there.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: Break them, yeah.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, put them in the booth and give them the opportunity to have the headset on and to view the game as an official, see the flow, see sky judge, see what we're seeing on television, right?
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: And then you just, you know, you pump up a few reps from college on the ground floor and you're in communication with them the whole time because that's where I feel like we're losing the threat like an official that's in there and is in the course of that game like and.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: I've gone on way too long about this at this point, but it arrives back to my forever point on this.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: It looks suspicious.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: It looks suspicious, and you have gambling issues, and you have everybody already thinking this thing is rigged and conspiracy.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_01]: It was such a bad call that it feels suspicious.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: And that bothers you better bet that the NFL's made for itself, right?
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I just don't understand exactly why you can't have 16 officials that are good enough to sit in that booth every Sunday and to dictate the flow of the game, to be in communication with Park so that these guys down on the floor don't have to worry about any of this stuff.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like down on the floor, it's like okay, you guys worry about holding
- 33:10[SPEAKER_01]: you know, you worry about all the receivers being on the line.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: You worry about procedural stuff.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'll take care of the big picture stuff.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: The kind of stuff that's going to swing a game dramatically like that's in my hands.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: And whatever.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I just I can't believe we're not here.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: Have you been looking for a natural way to relieve aches and discomfort?
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: The CBD gummies from cornbread hemp are formulated to work with your body, not against it.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, at the end of a long NFL Sunday, you're writing, you're staying up all night, your podcast and your body is still so energized and cornbread just helps you chill out.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: helps you get into a nice headspace and really invite a nice night to sleep.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_01]: Cornbread Hems CBD gummies are made to help you feel better.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: Whether it's stress, discomfort, or just needing a little relaxation, they only use the best part of the hemp plant, the flower for the purest and most potent CBD.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_01]: Right now, MMQB listeners can save 30% on their first order.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: Just head to cornbreadhemp.com slash MMQB and use the code MMQB at checkout.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: and use code mmqb.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: Let's very quickly on the game front.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_00]: On the game, golf, the Eagles are winning games different ways.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: Now, people aren't as comfortable with it because it looks a little unfamiliar, but this is about Vic Fangeo's defense.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think it's a coincidence that Jordan love and Jared Goff, well, they can't play football on back to back weeks.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 34:42[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't think that that, like in a six-day stretch, they have taken two very good quarterbacks and made them look like they don't belong in the NFL.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, that with all due respect to love and golf, but those two guys did not look good playing against that Eagle's defense.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I think like this indicative of a team that that's going to win a different way.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like the Jalen Phillips acquisition.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: is working out in a big way and you add them to like the monsters they have in the middle Davis and Carter and I mean, God of Jomo looks like he's like the next one kind of replacing Milton Williams in that rotation and then the young D.B.s they have.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: I they have time to work things out offensively because of what they've got defensively.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I, I'm so impressed with the job fixed on because I had a conversation with him over the summer and I, I remember saying to him, I was like, well, this is going to be good for you guys, right?
- 35:48[SPEAKER_00]: Cause now you can, you know, like the guys can kind of hit the ground running and he was like, what are you talking about?
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: We're replacing half our starters.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: It was the first time I'd really thought about it.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean like it was the first time I really kind of hit me like holy crap they lost so like you're on the list they lost Milton Williams they lost Josh sweat
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: beginning of the year, they didn't have to co-be dean.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: They lost Johnson Gardner, Johnson, and they lost dareously.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there was a ton of guys that they lost off that defense, and I kind of got to think and like, maybe they're not gonna be as good defensively as we had thought.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_00]: Here they are, you know, with a bunch of young guys playing, they, again, choir, Phillips, and that's a defense that can wanna championship, you know?
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: And so now what they've done is they've,
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: They've bought the offense time to work its issues out.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they're going to be in the playoffs, we know that now.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: There's plenty of time for the offense to figure out what it needs to be in January.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: I just think this defense is not just like this defense and
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was Cody Alexander had a great mashup of clips from Nicobie Dean last night.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: Nicobie Dean's covering Jamison Williams and Jamir Gibbs.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_01]: Step for step.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: And that's like your third best life back or you know what I mean?
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like this team is so good and so versatile and this defense is so strong that
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, and I get the other side of it, and I get the frustration, I'm kind of tired of AJ Brown if I'm being honest, even though I understand where he's coming from, but like, why wouldn't you go through every effort to play into this defense's strengths?
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: right like right wouldn't you run the ball to keep them off the game and the moment is to live in the game like this defense can handle anything like they are good enough to beat any team in the NFL to match up against any team in the NFL.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, and you know, it's what scary is they should at least on paper continue to get better over the course of the year because Philips is going to get more comfortable.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: Jalen Carter still young player, obviously in the middle of that defense, as Yomo is getting better with reps, it looks like, you know, Nolan Smith settling in as a full-time star, a Jihad Campbell, and all the different ways they can use him.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously the young D.B.s, with poignant
- 38:22[SPEAKER_00]: I like I I'm starting to think I don't know where the whole is in that defense, you know, they needed an edge rush or they went and got fill ups who I honestly I don't think there is one I don't think there is one right right right and it's that good enough then can you win the playoffs this we can you can this formula
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: Can this form you'll be enough like this different formula than last year, can it be enough?
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I look at it.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Connor, so they're next four games.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you look at the rest of their schedule.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like they're gonna get to 13 or 14 wins.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_00]: Cowboys, bears, chargers, raiders, commanders, bills, commanders.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, those two commanders games.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: They're just probably like, yes, we did it.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_00]: I do lose.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, maybe Chicago, maybe they lose Chicago, maybe that's the black Friday game.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe, but I don't know.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like I could see them getting blown out by the bears and then everyone making this a big statement when like they're just kind of tired and Ben Johnson has a heater.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_01]: How about that, by the way, the report that, uh, big stuff out now?
- 39:38[SPEAKER_00]: Is that self-help?
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: Self-pal, uh, reaching into his bag, using the Italian connection, uh, big dumb, yanked, big dumb, yanked AJ Brown at a practice and brought him over to the, brought him over to see the Godfather, Jeffrey Lurry.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: Come with me, I want to, I want to, I want to have a talk with you.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_01]: Go sit in the car, don't worry about, don't worry about it.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_00]: You'll see what this is about, get over there.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's an Austrian and an Irish guy trying to do Italian accents on a podcast.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: Who knows?
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: Might be able to save their season, but 69, I mean, you have, like, the one thing about the Eagles, the Eagles and the Chiefs have, like, remember, like, when the schedule comes out, we were like, holy crap, that's kind of f-ed up what they're doing to them.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: We're entering that stage of the schedule for these teams.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know what I mean like so the Eagles play on a Friday they play on a Saturday they play on They play on a Friday a Saturday.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_00]: I thought no, they don't play Christmas.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that might be so so they've got like a couple of funky weeks And then the chiefs are playing like I think every day of the week.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_00]: The rest of the year something like that, right?
- 40:52[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, that's crazy
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: But you know what, too, it's, this is evidence of.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_00]: Remember how I can last year that I remember how last year the NFL put candy cans on the team's jerseys that we're going through like the three games and 10 days, stretches if that made it okay.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, oh yeah, you guys love just having your body's permanently disfigured because like if you adjust those two interlocking candy cans, you can actually make it look like a red cross.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that this is perfect evidence though, Alberta, the fact that we look at these schedules.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: So we're proven right in a lot of ways, because you look at what I meant to say was, okay, so they have the Friday game, then they have both the Eagles.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: This is why I'm business Monday.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still kind of like a crackhead right now, but like looking at this, right?
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: So they have the Friday game, then they come back, and they go Monday.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: Sunday, Saturday.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: So they have a consecutive short weeks in there, which I mean they're playing the Raiders and commanders on those short weeks.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe it won't make a difference, but it is there.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: I just think this is the perfect example of
- 42:08[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we said it.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: We were worried about the commanders, right?
- 42:11[SPEAKER_01]: Perfect example.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's too many games in prime time.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's too many games on short rest.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's too many.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: And now they're going to have two games against the Eagles at Marcus Marriott if they're lucky at quarterback.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, so, and it's funny because like every schedule looks like a gauntlet in one way shape or form.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then at this point in the season, we
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: you know it's just funny to hear us say like holy crap the Eagles get to play the commanders still twice and they're gonna get to ten wins.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's weird.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's where we are.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, things are kind of upside down this year more so than they've been.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'd said parody is dead in the NFL or it had been dying a slow death and it's back this year for sure.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: for sure.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure 345 parks tweeted about it 600,000 times.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have an over arching Albert Gloff take.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: I just think that like, okay, yes, it was the worst completion percentage of his career as a line and his worst, I think EPA per play.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I just think he's going to have some bad games and I do wonders.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_01]: If ever in the 22 and the second half, I think was the number, right?
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: Something like that.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: I was just surprised with Dan Campbell calling a place that Jamir Gibbs only got 12 carries and you were pretty much, it was a one score game the entire time.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like I wonder if he almost, like I almost wonder if he was trying to continually get golf as confidence back over the course of the game.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like I think what Gibbs.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_00]: you got to be careful like I always feel like backs like that like there's always the temptation like well he looks so good like you know let's take let's use a more i do think they like they're with that type of back there's like a little bit of a management thing that you have to engage in you know what i mean like there's a reason why David Montgomery's in the roster
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: So like I hear you and maybe you would have seen them run in the ball more than 21 times, but you know, I do think there's a piece of that.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: There's also like the the element of like it just, it went, it's not working.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's not working.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 44:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and so I think that's sort of where they were.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_00]: My one concern with the lines actually is a golf though.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_00]: at the high enough percentage of what it's been over the last three years, to create the identity of the lines that are going to need the playoffs, you know what I'm assuming they get there, because Taylor Decker's been in and out of the line up, they clearly, like, aren't as good as they were inside when they had, you know, guys like,
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: Frank Ragnow and going back further to Jonah Jackson, you know, in there, and so again, like this is one of those things where it's like so much of the teams identity ran through that offensive line.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_00]: So almost like we talked about with the chargers, right, which we'll get to them.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: But so much of the teams identity ran through the offensive line that if you're
- 45:07[SPEAKER_00]: Just average there where you were great does it take a toll on or does it does it does it does it take a chunk out of the identity that team I think it has
- 45:18[SPEAKER_01]: How does it not?
- 45:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: No, I totally agree.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and we saw that starting in the Vikings game.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was sort of the damn breaking on this team, but yeah, but they had trouble up front like handling the Eagles front for sure.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, and that's been a theme that was why Dan Campbell I think took over play calling and I think to protect his guys a little bit, but even he's finding out that
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not saying that Johnny Morton wasn't doing a bad job and I'm not a bad job.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was top 10 in legitimately every category in Dan Campbell still took over play calling, which is amazing.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_01]: But I just think that he probably, I mean, he's finding out that there's just not an immediate solution to this other than you need for more generational players.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I mean, like, whoops, okay, I guess we figured that one out.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, let's move on, man, we got a lot to get to here.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_01]: We can buzz through some of these games before we get to Seahawks Rams, because I want to close out with that one.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_01]: That was a great one.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: Dolphins, I said it last week, Albert.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't throw them away.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_01]: They're right.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: They went.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: We look at your schedule and we look at the schedule.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'll correct her show that we were the first people to actually look at their schedule and be like holy crap.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to be six and seven going into Pittsburgh in the middle of December.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_01]: This was the first podcast.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, yeah.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_00]: The dolphins are alive.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to just add this, okay, so every year I do my coaches list, which is coming to a we're wrapping it up, we're getting there.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's a big production, but I will say this.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: Just making some calls, I think that there is a chance that Mike McDaniel holds on to this job.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll tell you why for two reasons.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, they like him.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_01]: Dolphins like him.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_01]: And if this GM
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, let's say that the dolphins want their GM to hire their head coach the next coach, right?
- 47:19[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say that the dolphins don't close on the GM until January 2, or January 3.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say it's just a competitive search, right?
- 47:27[SPEAKER_01]: And they bring in a ton of guys and it just takes a while, right?
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, then you're already out of the coaching care, so for that year.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: And even if you get there on time, if you're a GM,
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: What are you looking for in this search?
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: And you could say whatever, whatever, whatever, but what is every team really looking for?
- 47:47[SPEAKER_01]: a guy who can turn around to quarterback call plays on offense and and be that steady offensive presence, who's always going to start already.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in my car already is that and if he gets fired Albert, I guarantee you he's going to interview for at least one head coaching job and we'll be the top offensive coordinator candidate every opening around the league.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're the new GM, it's like, why am I why am I firing this guy?
- 48:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, like it's easy for me to see a scenario where, like, let's say Robert Solid becomes the head coach and Tennessee and now all of a sudden, like, McDonald's working with Cam Ward.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 48:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like, something like that's definitely on the table.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I think, I mean, to his credit, like, so Steven Ross, who, you know, I think has got a checkered record is on her for sure.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's still looking for his first playoff when his own, and he's had the team since 2007.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like my understanding is that he had heard from enough people what a great second chance head coach Mike McDaniel would become that I think he sort of stopped and was like
- 48:54[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I shouldn't pull the plug on his first chance so quick.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if all these people think that this guy is going to be great in the second try, can we get him there?
- 49:06[SPEAKER_00]: And it made me recall Marvin Lewis and just bear with me here and I know we're trying to get through these games quick, but just bear with me on this one.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_00]: So I had a conversation with Marvin Lewis where he went through the thing with Carson
- 49:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_00]: And he basically had enough self-awareness to realize he was like that he'd been the head coach in Cincinnati for eight years and he had enough self-awareness to realize well 99% of guys in my spot right now would be getting fired.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm lucky to hang on to this job.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_00]: So you always hear about people going and learning about from being fired.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_00]: and he revamped a bunch of stuff and brought in J. Gruden to be his offensive coordinator.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously there's a separation from Palmer, which nobody wanted, but then they wind up going and getting Andy Dalton, and then he makes the playoffs five years in a row.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and so, look, I-
- 50:09[SPEAKER_00]: I like the idea like that like Mike McDaniel could be a great second chance head coach will wait a minute like if I'm Steve Ross like I can understand where Steve Ross would look at that and say maybe we ought to give much better chance his first time around yes no if I'm Ross and I keep him I'm telling you go call Marvin Lewis and have that conversation with him and like really a really analyze where your ad is ahead coach like we want to make
- 50:37[SPEAKER_00]: go through the process of like a guy who's been fired and see where you're at.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_00]: And, um, you know, I think if he does that, like you could wind up with a holy crap, this really worked out, you know?
- 50:49[SPEAKER_00]: And if Steve Ross wants that, let me ask you this Connor, they started interviewing GM candidates, right?
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think that they would have a bias towards guys who would say I want to keep Mike?
- 51:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and, and this is what happened with the, I mean, one of the first GM searches I covered with the Jets and John it's it right and all the coaches are all the GMs that came in there, it was like we felt like Woody Johnson wanted to keep.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_01]: And so you tell them that, yeah, I'm going to keep Rex right now.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think I hope Steven Ross is smarter than that.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, hey, it's up to you.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_01]: We just have no problem with this guy.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think you can make it work?
- 51:30[SPEAKER_01]: And if I'm a GM though, politically, it's just smart because what is this option give you as a GM?
- 51:37[SPEAKER_01]: It gives you a one year Scott free reset button where let's just say you go seven and
- 51:45[SPEAKER_01]: with McDaniel.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_01]: And then the GM can be like, okay, clearly it's the coach's problem.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_01]: then you fire the coach, and then you start over again, and you probably get a year out of your contract because you want them to be in sync with the other coach, right?
- 51:57[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's not a bad procedural move, like politically, I just, you know, I don't see the problem.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I think this is a long way of saying, don't count out Mike McDaniel yet in Miami, I think.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think there are a couple guys that are important to the president, Tom Garfinkle, and then Brandon Shore, who's their cap chief.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going to have like a role in all of this to, and I know people haven't heard that name, but I think it's an important name.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think he could wind up being like, what Kevin Demoff was in L.A. and now Tony Bestuers is there.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_00]: What Mike Disney has been in Detroit.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_00]: These names may not mean anything to people, but there are guys who kind of were stabilizing forces in their organizations.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_00]: brain insures just a name to watch is somebody who like when they reimagine the whole structure of things maybe it's a three-headed thing you know where you've got a general manager who's sort of focused on scouting the way less need is an L.A. or John Lynch isn't San Francisco with prog Marathi there
- 53:05[SPEAKER_00]: or Brad Holmes is in Detroit.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_00]: You have that guy focusing on scouting and then you have you almost like the second arm of the GM with the cap chief.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think there's going to be a reimagination of things that way too.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_01]: No, I totally agree.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so let's, uh, I mean, there's like a hundred good games here.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I'm going to blow through some of these fire.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: Let's, let's fire through some of the Ravens Browns.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, whatever.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: Shoulder Sanders played in this game.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_01]: You may have heard of it.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_01]: some bad calls and officiating in this one too with a involving the downpour at the one yard line.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure if you're Brown's fan and you saw that, you're right there with me.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens should not have gotten a touch back on that one, but Sidor Sanders comes in, goes four of 16 for 47 yards in an interception.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't look quite as bad.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to play that game though.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_01]: I, you know, this is what it means.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Ravens.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_00]: Conversations so far gone on him, like where it's like people are like litigating practice reps, which I haven't heard that happen with any player this way and we're doing it with a fizz brown pick and so like Like I don't know how many x players have to say no one but the starter gets reps gets first team reps during the season
- 54:20[SPEAKER_00]: for people to actually believe it like and and and throw out the idea that she door has been wronged here somehow he hasn't been like he's just right he's a backup he got in a game all the same problems that everybody had with she door still there doesn't mean he's not working at doesn't mean he can't eventually become a productive NFL player but you know if you're take away from that game is anything but like wow like that's sort of shows me you see some flashes that really shows me why they could play
- 54:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, um, I, you know, whatever.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_01]: This is what's happening with Baltimore too.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_01]: They're rolling, but rolling, it gets us stronger.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_01]: But Jim Schwarz is going to f up everybody.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like the Ravens got a full dose to that.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah, honestly, like dude, like I started to cut you off, but like this is like where we're going to get with some of these things where like there are some really good defenses this year, right?
- 55:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like we've got like what's going on in Philly?
- 55:16[SPEAKER_00]: What's going on in Cleveland?
- 55:20[SPEAKER_00]: are going to, the quarterbacks are going to be made to look bad.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_00]: We got to stop with like the one-off conversation over a course of a week where what's wrong with this guy or what's wrong with that guy like this is a great one.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_00]: This is a really great defense making Lamar Jackson look really mortal and stuff like that's going to happen over the course of a set of things.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_01]: hundred percent.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_01]: Panther's 30 Falcons 27 in OT Bryce Young with a career high 448 yards and three touchdowns, a technique million with an absolute monster of a game eight catches 130 yards, two touchdowns.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: Bryce Young really got off.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he got off his backside literally in this game.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was knocked out, he was knocked down.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_01]: And Panics also was knocked out of this game, but stayed out and we had Kirk Cousins for the second half, which is when, really, you could say that Caroline is massive come back, start it because it was 21-10 at half down in the Falcons, only scored six points in the second half.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I just like it at this point.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I feel like we're starting to be bells for the Rahim Morris and probably the GM at this point too.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really see a way around a house cleaning.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's Mr. Leda, you know.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_00]: That's five losses in a row, and now and, you know, like after you invested the way you did a quarterback, like neither of them producing at the level they need to produce.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think things really come to a head in the next two weeks.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_00]: They have to win the next two weeks.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like they go to New Orleans and they're at the Jets.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like those are two games that just on talent alone, like you should be able to chalk them up if you're Atlanta.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_00]: If you win those two games, you're five and seven.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_00]: You've got a puncher's chance going into the stretch run and the schedule of stiffens from there.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_00]: But you have to win these next two games.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_01]: The on talent alone, they should be the should have seven or eight wins this year.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_01]: Texan's 16 tight and 13.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think if you go back over the history of football, this will be like one of those games that like you could ask 600 people if they remember and unless you had some sort of debilitating gambling loss, it's just not going to stick out, but I will, you know, credit to Davis Mills, just getting it done.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_01]: And Texan's are five and five.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_00]: Again, and this is just another sort of gamer that a gambling hijinks could happen because no one's paying attention.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_01]: Of course.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's probably 11 bad calls in this game too.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_01]: This is not one that I've gotten to yet on game pass, but like this is the one where you get to the end of watching all the games before you do power rankings.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like, all right, here we go.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_01]: Let's put the old let's put the old snow suit item.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_01]: Let's touch through this one.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_01]: But this is another example of my grand takeaway here is just a couple of these teams are going to make life more complicated for the chiefs now.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, in the IFC and Houston's climb and back into it.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_01]: You get CJ Stroud back.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that Nest, I don't necessarily think that there's going to be much of a difference when Stroud comes back.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_01]: But they'll get a little bit of a boost.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_01]: He can probably make some plays.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_01]: Although Davis Mills is unlocking Nico Collins at this point, which I think is something that's at least worth paying attention to.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_00]: The defense is still really good.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like hasn't been perfect, but for the most part, like has done what it's needed to do.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_00]: This is three wins and four weeks for them.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I, like I still think like that.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_00]: that program is in good shape you know and like I think they're showing the same stuff they showed last year where the offensive line was just a tire fire um you know like they were able to get to what 10 wins and when they're division last year like there's there's a resilience to the way that that that group plays like that not that I think they're gonna beat the bills and cults the next two weeks but um
- 59:08[SPEAKER_00]: you know they've they've they've put themselves in it and like I think you know we're probably talking about a 9-1 team at the end of the year which is pretty good considering all things they've been through.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah um next up Albert we have the
- 59:24[SPEAKER_01]: What do we got here?
- 59:26[SPEAKER_01]: We got the bears and the Vikings.
- 59:28[SPEAKER_01]: Chicago is 73 and this was not the sexiest game on any front.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_01]: But I think the important thing is that they were able to, they're winning the one score games.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like there's a couple teams that get the heater every year.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_01]: And Chicago's the one that's finally getting us.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_01]: And everyone's saying, oh, well, they're just getting the one score games, they're getting the one score games.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 59:52[SPEAKER_01]: The Vikings made a habit of this under Kevin O'Connell, and they were coached well enough and they recorded back to well enough to be able to make this a thing.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Chicago can continue to make this a thing.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they do play gritty down the stretch, they do bear down.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you have that JJ McCarthy kind of almost magical comeback drive at the end of this game.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_01]: It was, it wasn't enough.
- 1:00:14[SPEAKER_01]: And so I don't know, man.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't know what the bear's ceiling is at this point, but it's the fun to watch most of the time.
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_01]: Caleb Williams looks as consistent and feels that way too.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like when he's at the podium, when he's on the sideline, he's less like demonstrative, his body language is better.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like everything just kind of looks up in Chicago right now.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_01]: Looks good.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and they don't need him to be Superman to win, which is great.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he has put on the cape some in the last few weeks like that, again, like I think, well, if they're in the playoffs, remember the story made the coast and lovelin' to beat the bangles.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_00]: Well, remember the scramble's against the giants.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_00]: So he has these big moments.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the key is they're not putting too much on him.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_00]: They're running the ball well.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_00]: This is another one where they were in the ball most 40 times.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're playing good defense.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_00]: It just feels like it's a pretty well-rounded team, you know what I mean?
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like in the arrow continues point up on them.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_00]: Are you worried about JJ?
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_00]: I know he made the throws down the stretch.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_00]: That there was some really shaky quarterback play.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_00]: outside of that like it's was I like there was some alarming there was there's and again like I want to give them time you know and I think but I mean like they are to some degree in evaluation mode the rest of the year on what they're going to do in 26 like I the outside of like the end of some of these games just hasn't been good so far.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Kevin O'Connell has an easy path here and I'll just make a prediction that I don't think he's going to be the one that's blamed for this and there's someone else in the building he can blame for it and I think that's probably right.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he probably gets his way and gets someone else in there that will help him pick a quarterback that's better.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_01]: So that's just a, that's just a thought and I'm talking about the general manager.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, the Packers beat the Giants 27 to 20, my, my only thought on this one Albert is good for my Kafka because yes, it was a loss.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_01]: But like did exactly what I would do if I was a child and got named the in-term head coach of the Giants, which is, go for it on every goddamn fourth down, gives a shit, put James Winston in, like, effort throw the ball down.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, he did, he did exactly what I would do.
- 1:02:33[SPEAKER_01]: There are so many coaches that get the interim job and they're like, well, it's fourth and two, we've had a pod because I got to explain this to someone else.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_01]: No, after that, if you're Mike Kafka, like, just treat this like it's your the the the most realistic game of mad and you're ever going to get to play and he's doing that.
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I like it.
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the team will respond to it and kind.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if he's the guy that takes over at this point, but it was a I thought it was a nice performance by him and
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, like for the packers, I come out of this and say, all right, like, you know, Jordan love made a couple of real big throws, you know, like the play, the plays, the Christian Watson made, like can he be the number one?
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's like really the question now, especially if you lose Chuck Tucker craft, it's like, okay, like, what?
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_00]: Who do you have a go-to guy in the offensive?
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_00]: You just dealing with this balance of like it's got to be somebody else every week, you know?
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_00]: It really spread the ball around again and again I still feel like you're feeling the loss of craft but it was Watson this week who physically probably
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_00]: like physically, probably looks the most like a number one, you know?
- 1:03:44[SPEAKER_00]: And then like I think yeah, I also have to be concerned, of course, with the health of Josh Jacobs coming out this one.
- 1:03:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, if they sustain any more damage to their, to their run game and to the effectiveness of their run game, I mean, this team is, this team is host.
- 1:04:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I, and I think we know that for now, it's just like, okay, it's a, not panic, six, three, and one, and you see what happens.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you have been second place in the division and
- 1:04:14[SPEAKER_01]: at this point you have the Vikings which I think is a nice little landing spot game for them.
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_01]: Then I mean, then we really, you know, Green Bay's got one more week to figure their shit out and then you got at Detroit Chicago, at Denver, Chicago Baltimore and then Minnesota to close it out.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that the Packers are going to make like I'm not ready to say that this team is definitely in the playoffs yet, I think I need another week to to see how see how they respond.
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_01]: Just really quickly before we get to the two big ones.
- 1:04:51[SPEAKER_01]: Steelers 34 Bengals 12 Aaron Rogers may have broken his non-throwing wrist.
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think the league kind of comes
- 1:05:19[SPEAKER_01]: think in NFL history, Albert, to have given up, what was it?
- 1:05:23[SPEAKER_01]: It was some like ridiculous number.
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_01]: It was like 32 points, there's 33 points in a row, for like eight straight weeks or something like that.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_01]: But it was not good.
- 1:05:31[SPEAKER_00]: And it wasn't even like, I don't even know, because of the turnovers, you have to hang some of that on the offense too.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Doughert has the interception return for a touchdown.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_00]: So because of some of the big turnovers and key spots,
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_00]: Is it really, like, how much are you hanging on the defense?
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_00]: I, like, the Bengals just looks sideways in general.
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I think like the situation between Jamar Chase and Jalen Rams, he was serve indicative of a lot of the frustration that's going on right now.
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not the one.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:06:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:06:08[SPEAKER_00]: Does now is that not a max suspension?
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_00]: I was thinking about that.
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think it should be, right?
- 1:06:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm gonna, I'm gonna die on this hill if Jamar Chase is playing against the Patriots, I'm gonna lose it because you said that Jalen Carter served a one game suspension because the spitting incident happened before the start of a game.
- 1:06:32[SPEAKER_01]: Jamar Chase can't be in that game against the Patriots.
- 1:06:34[SPEAKER_01]: I love Jamar Chase.
- 1:06:35[SPEAKER_01]: Jamar Chase is on my fantasy team.
- 1:06:37[SPEAKER_01]: I am writing the sick of the playoffs.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_01]: he can't play against patriots.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_01]: If that's the precedent that you set on spinning, he can't play against patriots.
- 1:06:47[SPEAKER_01]: Can't do it.
- 1:06:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:06:49[SPEAKER_00]: Patriots have a horseshoe, you know, what?
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_00]: Have a horseshoe, you know where.
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 1:06:58[SPEAKER_00]: I messed up that rather disgusting analogy.
- 1:07:01[SPEAKER_00]: with the way things have played out, like the fact that they would get to Mar Chase missing, it's like old school Patriots, you know, things like that would happen where to market Chase is suddenly out for the redeeming of the Bengals.
- 1:07:16[SPEAKER_01]: uh... Jaguar's 35 charges six uh... this was a nice little get back on the horse game even though this was not a good Trevor Lawrence game at all jackson bill controlled the ground uh... in this morning they were able to get after the chargers defensively so good camp in all i game as well uh...
- 1:07:32[SPEAKER_01]: This is one of those like it was highly consequential in terms of like playoff percentages But it's not one that I'm necessarily like digging deep in in terms of you know I think the chargers are just exhausted Albert.
- 1:07:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean they've been playing so many of these big games with a bang-up roster And this was inevitable at some point.
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's I like I'm walking at the at the game book now
- 1:07:56[SPEAKER_00]: They got more than quadrupled up in rushing yards.
- 1:08:00[SPEAKER_00]: Can you imagine saying that before the year that like in mid-November, the Jaguars would have more than quadruple?
- 1:08:09[SPEAKER_00]: The, I mean, almost quintuple, the, quintuple, almost quintuple, the rushing numbers.
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that the chargers had against them.
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that to me is kind of a indication of where the chargers are right now.
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_00]: And again, like, I think like losing those two tackles, losing all and slater, completely stripped the chargers of their identity, you know.
- 1:08:34[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why they look right
- 1:08:39[SPEAKER_00]: Why it is where they are, you know, I don't know very many teams that could lose two players of that level at that position, it's surviving and it certainly looks like the Chargers are struggling to do so right now.
- 1:08:53[SPEAKER_00]: We have, and credits of the Jaguar's too, because I mean, again, like this, I mean, Liam Cohen found a way on a week-to-week basis, like it's a team that's connected together and, you know, I think
- 1:09:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like being able to win again when you're quarterback doesn't play all that well.
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like you said, Campanelli's done a really good job with the defense and being able to create havoc and cause turnovers like I, you know, I think the Jaguars are like you can just see the signs of where that program is and where they're building.
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see if they can hang on for playoffs but and that's when I'll truly buy in and I know it's not fair to leave Coney's doing a great job in his first year.
- 1:09:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like I've been down this road before.
- 1:09:36[SPEAKER_01]: 49ers 41 Cardinals 22.
- 1:09:40[SPEAKER_01]: This is it's starting to get dark a little early for for Jonathan Ganon as well.
- 1:09:44[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about him.
- 1:09:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think in the same way that you talk about Reem Morris.
- 1:09:48[SPEAKER_01]: Jacobi reset almost through the ball 60 times in this game and through
- 1:09:55[SPEAKER_01]: the 49ers are getting close to healthy.
- 1:09:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we had Ricky Peer saw in this game, even though it was just one catch.
- 1:10:02[SPEAKER_01]: Christian McAfrey had like 900 more all purpose yards and Brock Perty was back.
- 1:10:06[SPEAKER_01]: Three touchdowns on a 133 quarterback rating.
- 1:10:09[SPEAKER_01]: Just a little bit of a cleaned up version of Mac Jones.
- 1:10:11[SPEAKER_01]: And you can see what this team can do.
- 1:10:13[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be a nightmare Albert for somewhere.
- 1:10:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's like a six or a seven seed.
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like we talk about like losing people in the ability to withstand losses.
- 1:10:22[SPEAKER_00]: How many teams could withstand a lot of players as the level of Nick Bosa and Fred War and B7 and 4?
- 1:10:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, those are two guys that like, legitimately at the end of all that's have a shot to get in the Hall of Fame, you know?
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_00]: And you're losing those two guys.
- 1:10:39[SPEAKER_00]: You've been without Brandon and I you've the whole year who's your number one receiver, who you're paying to have the your number one receiver.
- 1:10:46[SPEAKER_00]: You've had the quarterback issue.
- 1:10:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought, I thought Brock,
- 1:10:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's okay to say they're both good quarterbacks, right?
- 1:10:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like Brock pretty and Mac Jones are both good quarterbacks.
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_00]: Brock pretty is a better, but they're both good quarterbacks, you know?
- 1:11:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is a problem of Vikings, which they had.
- 1:11:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:11:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 1:11:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I think it's just, and and I think it's another sign of the program that Kyle Shanahan's built in why
- 1:11:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when they detach from all these guys, and maybe they have a rough year in there, right?
- 1:11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like when as a bozo, Warner, McAfrey, when that, the kiddo, Trent, like that, when that, that core finally ages out, and some of the guys that have been there and were there have have filtered out, of course, already.
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_00]: Um, why you should continue to trust Kyle Shanahan, and if you have a little bit of a sideways year, you need to keep in your coach, like he should be a 25 year coach in San Francisco.
- 1:11:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 1:11:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like he, yeah.
- 1:11:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's done a phenomenal job this year, and that shouldn't be overlooked either.
- 1:11:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:11:57[SPEAKER_01]: No, I totally agree.
- 1:11:58[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we got the two big ones here to close out the show.
- 1:12:02[SPEAKER_01]: Ram C Hawks, my takeaway on this one is that I left more
- 1:12:09[SPEAKER_01]: Impressed with the seahawks, then I came in with and here's why Sam Darnold was awful in this game.
- 1:12:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean it was a 45 quarterback rating through four interceptions and a lot of this wasn't it wasn't like the playoffs right it wasn't like a lot of guys in his face and a lot of blitzes like some of these are from a.
- 1:12:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, um, he just, he had a really, really, really bad game.
- 1:12:38[SPEAKER_01]: And despite that, Seattle had the ball with three timeouts, and they were near midfield with a chance to win this game, pretty simple.
- 1:12:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that to me says everything it needs to say about Mike McDonald, you know, phenomenal.
- 1:12:52[SPEAKER_00]: I, I thought in channel in most who made one of the most underrated plays I've seen all year.
- 1:12:57[SPEAKER_00]: If you guys, if you saw the stop you made when they needed it of Kyron Williams where he, I mean, Kyron Williams is like one of these like rolling ball, but you're not just running backs, right?
- 1:13:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like you do not, like he makes contact with you and it's not fun to be in his way, right?
- 1:13:16[SPEAKER_00]: And like what I watch in China who will so do on one of these plays there at the end to kind of create the opportunity for them to get the ball back,
- 1:13:26[SPEAKER_00]: where he literally stood the guy up in the hole in my holy crap.
- 1:13:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 1:13:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, flatfoot, it just stopped him.
- 1:13:34[SPEAKER_00]: And that to me, like seeing that play was sort of like indicative of what the the sea ox had become like the altar.
- 1:13:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's like they've
- 1:13:42[SPEAKER_00]: They've done such an effective job of like importing the Ravens style the Ravens ethos on defense like even down to having like a nickname and worry playing the role of Kyle Hamilton and I mean it's just the ultimate tough guy defense now, you know, and I love where Seattle's at across the board.
- 1:14:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm with you like I they outgained the Rams in this game.
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_00]: They're a very real threat to win that division still.
- 1:14:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the one problem I have, this is a problem I've seen more in the league.
- 1:14:16[SPEAKER_00]: The clock management at the end of this game drove me nuts.
- 1:14:19[SPEAKER_00]: And you know why?
- 1:14:21[UNKNOWN]: Why?
- 1:14:22[SPEAKER_00]: It was because the Seahawks were so worried about not burning down, right, like where they would be getting the play call in and letting 15 seconds, 20 seconds run off the clock, rather than just going the game to line and spiking it.
- 1:14:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, look, man, if you can't get 10 yards and 3 downs in this situation, you ain't winning the game anyway.
- 1:14:47[SPEAKER_00]: So burning that, after you get a first down, burning the burning a snap with a spike is not a bad thing.
- 1:14:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like you're seeing more and more of that across the NFL now, where these teams are trying to get cute and be like, all right, we have we have three plays called, you know?
- 1:15:06[SPEAKER_00]: And don't worry, I can just hustle a little
- 1:15:09[SPEAKER_00]: sometimes the best playing those situations like what happened to the good old fashion clock it you know what i mean like right did you feel that way watching the end of that game a little bit but i was a little bit only at the screen like why aren't you clocking it you know like i that's just like a little pep of mine like that i've noticed more and more it feels like
- 1:15:28[SPEAKER_00]: Coaches are more worried about burning the down than they are burning clock and I think in those situations when you're two minutes ago, like trust your players to have the horse power to take care of the yardage and save the clock because I mean they blew so much time at the end of this game like
- 1:15:48[SPEAKER_00]: They should have been able to get 10 or 15 yards closer for Myers to kick that field goal.
- 1:15:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so happy that Olson had this game because he feels the same way that I do where, like, starting with like 11 minutes to go in the fourth quarter, even like 12 minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_01]: If you're down by more than a score,
- 1:16:04[SPEAKER_01]: You need to go now like it's not just like and and so that that's like and he kept saying it I think you said it like 50 times between the start of the fourth court in the end of the game It's like the two-minute offense starts now.
- 1:16:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's not when it's two minutes to go.
- 1:16:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's now because you don't know how many Possessions you're gonna get left or facing Sean McVey
- 1:16:22[SPEAKER_01]: and the rams I thought really like the one thing that I thought was was interesting and is sort of this little nugget to consider for the remainder of the season.
- 1:16:30[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone came into this game saying what 13 personnel, 13 personnel, which like we all talk like football coaches now because we think it's cool.
- 1:16:37[SPEAKER_01]: We can just say that the rams use a lot of tight ends.
- 1:16:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's a that's a way that like everyone can understand it and then you know like we're not all walking around with like co-copen Hagin and our mouth and like a clipboard like we can just call it what it is.
- 1:16:47[SPEAKER_01]: They they use a lot of tight ends okay and it helps them run but they can also
- 1:16:51[SPEAKER_01]: There's more of a skull man back in the day, but that's our idea.
- 1:16:55[SPEAKER_01]: But do you notice that like, you know, there's people on like, you know, like, people in our positions that are like, yeah, they ran like the robber on cover two and it's like, man, you know, our job is to distill that so that people can understand it.
- 1:17:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's not to, so that we can try.
- 1:17:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to, it's not to,
- 1:17:19[SPEAKER_00]: that know him in Clayton, although like actually coaching football has got me back into it.
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I was at a good conversation with Bracilla about it last week on his podcast where I'm like, we were talking about like the long play calls and I'm like, what coaching like fifth graders has reminded me is how easy it is to get to like eight or nine words in a play call when it's actually not that complicated, they're all just code words, you know?
- 1:17:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:17:45[SPEAKER_00]: H jet motion pull counter as like one of our plays, which sounds like a lot for a fifth grade, but it's really not.
- 1:17:53[SPEAKER_00]: It just means the H is doing jet sweep motion, fake to him, and then we're running a counter right to the tail back and the guard's pulling.
- 1:18:01[SPEAKER_00]: And that's it.
- 1:18:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean, like it's it's like basically four code words, you know, so anyway.
- 1:18:07[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but the Rams, they move from 13 personnel to just 11, right?
- 1:18:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like, which is, which is your three wide receiver, uh, one back sets.
- 1:18:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then it's funny, right?
- 1:18:19[SPEAKER_01]: They were passing out of their multi-tighten big sets.
- 1:18:22[SPEAKER_01]: And then they started running out of their light box wide receiver sets.
- 1:18:26[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what they can do to you that no other team can do, right?
- 1:18:30[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 1:18:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, playing in simple.
- 1:18:31[SPEAKER_00]: And that's like the legacy was so important for them in the draft.
- 1:18:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I know Sean was all over him.
- 1:18:36[SPEAKER_00]: Um, they, like, having that sort of tight end that they could toggle and move around.
- 1:18:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's the same sort of concept as Puka, where Puka allows you because he's still big and strong.
- 1:18:48[SPEAKER_00]: Um, to be in, to look like you're coming out of one thing, wait, you break that when you break the huddle, but be in something else.
- 1:18:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's all of those, like, sort of queens on the chessboard that they have out there.
- 1:19:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think for August and grows into becoming that obviously Pooka has been one of that, Cooper Cup over the years was, um, yeah, I mean, I, I'm, like I still think the Rams are going to Super Bowl, they didn't need to even, like the one thing that was impressive about this from a Rams perspective is they didn't even need to, I'm going to use that analogy again, take the Ferrari out of the garage very much, right, um, you know, they need staffer to be a Superstar to win this one.
- 1:19:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm with you though.
- 1:19:31[SPEAKER_01]: You've been on this as a Super Bowl team all along.
- 1:19:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm there.
- 1:19:35[SPEAKER_01]: I wish I did it first because we'll get to the bills in a second.
- 1:19:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just not, and I know what that team is about.
- 1:19:41[SPEAKER_00]: Part of that part of that was just sort of vibes too.
- 1:19:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's like when you see these teams in training camp, it's like, I remember having this conversation with one of their people when I was out there and, you know,
- 1:19:53[SPEAKER_00]: I was like after spending a day with them and I was at the end of the day and I said to want I'm like you guys think you're going it hit me it was like just hearing the way that they were all talking about the team it's like oh yeah you guys think you're going to the Super Bowl huh
- 1:20:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:20:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:20:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:20:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:20:09[SPEAKER_01]: So, but there's such like a non-chalance about it, you know, right, they're not trying to force anything.
- 1:20:14[SPEAKER_00]: There's nothing like there's no like they're not pushing it, but you just start to put those pieces together and it was like, these guys think they're really good and they were right, obviously.
- 1:20:25[SPEAKER_01]: Last but not least, Buffalo and they beat the, I mean,
- 1:20:31[SPEAKER_01]: It kind of beat the breaks off the Buccaneers a little bit.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_01]: The score I don't think was indicative of how really amazing and back and forth this game was for a large portion of it.
- 1:20:42[SPEAKER_01]: But in the end, Buffalo is a heavy weight fight.
- 1:20:46[SPEAKER_01]: It was.
- 1:20:48[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think you could classify it as that in the end they went 44 to 32.
- 1:20:52[SPEAKER_01]: And what everybody's going to say first is that Josh Helens scored six freaking touchdowns.
- 1:20:57[SPEAKER_01]: And here's, I'm curious what your thought is on this because I've arrived.
- 1:21:02[SPEAKER_01]: I've been at every edge of this argument.
- 1:21:04[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:21:05[SPEAKER_01]: I was the, you need to, I was first really, I thought on the someone needs to cap his rushes.
- 1:21:12[SPEAKER_01]: Someone needs to cap the way that he plays, and I think that the bills tried, right?
- 1:21:17[SPEAKER_01]: Because after Brian Dable, we had Candorcy, and Candorcy was limiting his rush attempts, but then that ended up getting him fired.
- 1:21:25[SPEAKER_01]: That was an organizational directive, I think, to limit Josh Allen's rushing attempts.
- 1:21:30[SPEAKER_01]: Candorcy did it.
- 1:21:31[SPEAKER_01]: Candorcy got pushed out for Joe Brady,
- 1:21:34[SPEAKER_01]: Josh Allen started running again what Jill Brady did I thought was smart and that he converted to this sort of defend every blade of grass often it's where it doesn't really depend on Josh Allen dropping back as much He can just take two steps and there's just a couple of guys around he can dump it off He can run do whatever he wants with it the problem with that though
- 1:21:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're back to the inclination around you only at six attempts in this game, but there was some big physical shoulder down rushing attempts.
- 1:22:02[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:22:02[SPEAKER_01]: My thing at this point is like Albert, it doesn't matter.
- 1:22:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like Josh Allen is either going to be glowing like he's on NBA jam or he's going to be like he was last week in Miami.
- 1:22:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like 10% of the time where he's just going to be really bad and off.
- 1:22:15[SPEAKER_01]: But 90% of the time he's going to be the best player on the field and you just have to let him do what he wants.
- 1:22:23[SPEAKER_00]: there's some horses you can't contain right and like Josh Allen doesn't belong in an offense it's just like okay just go beat Josh Allen you know i mean the crazy thing to me was like that this game didn't start great for it like i thought the first quarter no the interception was horrible right you look pretty bad in the first quarter it was like god like is this a continuation of Miami thing and
- 1:22:43[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, that's a good defensive team that throws a lot at.
- 1:22:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:22:46[SPEAKER_00]: And so like for him to be able to, you know, put his foot in the ground and and and turn the thing around when his team needed a most like this was a force in Asia Josh Allen game, you know, like there were a couple of throws like
- 1:22:59[SPEAKER_00]: There are those throws he makes like they're these throws he makes down the sideline where he starts like running forward and then she's like almost looks like he's putting his weight into the throw you know what I mean like and you just know he's about to hit someone in stride that person's going to be running full speed to and it just looks like the most unstoppable thing on earth because you got a freight train running directly at the defense.
- 1:23:19[SPEAKER_00]: which is like, they're like, oh crap, he's coming.
- 1:23:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's like, nope, like the ball is, no, the ball is coming at you.
- 1:23:27[SPEAKER_00]: And you guys are all frozen.
- 1:23:28[SPEAKER_00]: And now, we got another guy foot running full speed, you know, into the end zone.
- 1:23:33[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, I really want, do you think,
- 1:23:40[SPEAKER_00]: do you think like as far as the skill group goes and look like I think part of it is of course like you know you don't have king cade right and you don't have key on Coleman who are the two most highly drafted guys I think in their skill group today right do you think this is just what they are or do you think they're going to wind up getting more or more out of these guys in a month or two will Coleman I mean was called out by you know it's demates for every
- 1:24:10[SPEAKER_00]: like we're fed up with you you know you need like this is because I even thought like I did you see the video of him dancing before the game yeah I was just like I think Ty done tweeted out right like I saw it and I'm like
- 1:24:31[SPEAKER_00]: I like, I don't want to begrudge anybody, you know, whatever, and then maybe this makes me sound like an old man, but I think having the self-awareness not to do that.
- 1:24:42[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and I love Keyon, Cole, and the personalities showing everything else.
- 1:24:46[SPEAKER_00]: But like, maybe this is the game where you keep it a low profile, you know what I mean?
- 1:24:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't know.
- 1:24:53[SPEAKER_01]: We've all been, you know what though, like, and I think when I saw that, we all forget what it's like to play organized football and like kind of the kaleidoscope of personalities that are in that locker room and we have all played with now.
- 1:25:13[SPEAKER_01]: My experience in Pennsylvania is probably a little bit different where, you know, we had a kid with a gatorade thing that had vodka in it that we just drink it on the sidelines and so, you know, we had some of those issues, but we had, you know, we had kids who just were sort of just averse to discipline and so the coaches would get mad at them and they doubled down and they do something dumber and like,
- 1:25:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's just football.
- 1:25:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's like the lot that this work attracts, you know.
- 1:25:39[SPEAKER_00]: We had like, so at one point we had two Mormons on the team and we called one dad Mormon the other one good Mormon.
- 1:25:47[SPEAKER_00]: One was like an actual Mormon.
- 1:25:49[SPEAKER_00]: Again, carried himself like that.
- 1:25:51[SPEAKER_00]: The other one did not carry himself like a Mormon at all.
- 1:25:53[SPEAKER_00]: So we call them Mormon dad Mormon.
- 1:25:56[SPEAKER_00]: We had
- 1:25:57[SPEAKER_00]: In order to defensive tack, I was a good friend of mine, like to partake in some things before practice, that he claimed to made him better, so, I mean, it's not, I'm with you, I think with the point you're getting that right, like I said, it's not the sport for the most well adjusted individuals, right?
- 1:26:14[SPEAKER_01]: No, and so, and that's the thing, and I think I made this point about, I forget what I was writing about, but like you're not going to get.
- 1:26:26[SPEAKER_01]: the best of a player until you accept all of that person, and the competitiveness comes folded in with all the weird.
- 1:26:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 1:26:39[SPEAKER_01]: My thought though is this.
- 1:26:41[SPEAKER_01]: If you want Josh Allen to be Josh Allen, you have to let him be Josh Allen 24 hours a day.
- 1:26:46[SPEAKER_01]: And if you want key on Coleman to be key on Coleman, you have to let key on Coleman be key on Coleman 24 hours a day.
- 1:26:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to come with some good things.
- 1:26:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to come with some bad things.
- 1:26:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not worried about Buffalo in the playoffs because how many times, I mean, you look at all the best moments and you could go back to the
- 1:27:03[SPEAKER_01]: you know, whatever, a big fourth-down conversion that the bills have had against the chiefs or, you know, any of these moments, a lot of it is like running, like, check-down passes to running back.
- 1:27:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's a tight end.
- 1:27:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it becomes a shorter field in every possession becomes like, what can you do for me within the scope of like five to seven yards?
- 1:27:22[SPEAKER_01]: And that's not to say that weapons aren't valuable, but I just think the bills could probably be better in a shorter
- 1:27:32[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, keep going.
- 1:27:34[SPEAKER_01]: Keep going down that road.
- 1:27:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, search it.
- 1:27:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 1:27:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, here's the other thing.
- 1:27:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and this is to me like the most impressive thing about like the character of that team.
- 1:27:42[SPEAKER_00]: Not to get hokey about it, but...
- 1:27:45[SPEAKER_00]: What's the two problems the bills have had this year when they've struggled?
- 1:27:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'd say it's turnovers and run defense, right?
- 1:27:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 1:27:53[SPEAKER_00]: They had both those issues early in that this game.
- 1:27:55[SPEAKER_00]: And so their ability to kind of fight through that when it would be easy for that to be PTSD for that team, right?
- 1:28:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like bad turnover early,
- 1:28:05[SPEAKER_00]: They're running right through you, but I think the bucks had like 130 yards rushing in the first half.
- 1:28:10[SPEAKER_00]: So like their ability to fight through whatever PTSD because that would look exactly how they lost of the dolphins, right?
- 1:28:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's not explainable loss.
- 1:28:21[SPEAKER_00]: So to be able to kind of shore up those two areas on the fly, I think, yeah, I think speaks highly of where they're at.
- 1:28:30[SPEAKER_00]: I also, I mean,
- 1:28:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if he's not his valuable player in football, he's the best player in football.
- 1:28:40[SPEAKER_00]: He's the best player.
- 1:28:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't, there's no one who's capable of what he's capable of.
- 1:28:45[SPEAKER_00]: And he is such a freak with some of the stuff that he does that I want to make sure that I continue to have an appreciation for watching it while I'm still watching it.
- 1:28:56[SPEAKER_00]: Because my home is great.
- 1:28:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like my home is going to go down to one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
- 1:29:01[SPEAKER_00]: Burrows great, Lamar's great, like this Allen's a different cat, you know, he's a different different player.
- 1:29:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he, you can make the argument that he's the most valuable because, I mean, if you remove him everything collapses, but I think that the reason it does is because, you know, Josh is
- 1:29:25[SPEAKER_01]: he is the offense and in a different way like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning were were the system, but you could take another quarterback and put them into, especially the Patriot system.
- 1:29:35[SPEAKER_00]: You could take another quarterback.
- 1:29:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:29:37[SPEAKER_00]: You can run it.
- 1:29:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:29:39[SPEAKER_01]: Can you imagine asking Mitch Tribisky to be like, go in and do
- 1:29:43[SPEAKER_00]: remotely with Josh Allen does like happens right that would be like just that like well you what it is you know what it is it's like it's like a little bronze James right like if like this Cavaliers team is back in the day you know what I mean like I mean so much was to he was doing so much for them it was like he could play five positions and like when he was at the height of his powers and I know he played on
- 1:30:09[SPEAKER_00]: like, you know, okay, then they put together a dream team in Miami.
- 1:30:12[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Miami would have been okay with just weight and Bosch or, you know, or the later Cavaliers are okay with with just Kyrie and Kevin loves, but.
- 1:30:24[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I mean, LeBron was so unique at his power, like that there was just, if you take him out of the equation, it's like you're removing two or three players, not one, you know what I mean?
- 1:30:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like that's, this is the closest the NFL has to that, like where it's just somebody who is so outrageously physically gifted.
- 1:30:49[SPEAKER_00]: that it's like if you take that piece out of the puzzle a bunch of other things are gonna go wrong and it's not even that like the rest of it's the team is well conceived for having Josh out.
- 1:31:01[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 1:31:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like because they do have Josh out and building Josh out and building a team around Josh out and it's different the building around any other player.
- 1:31:11[SPEAKER_01]: There's some great uh...
- 1:31:13[SPEAKER_01]: there's some great key on Coleman clips out there now of him just like absolutely like I mean he has like some of the most incredible reps and then like they're just ones versus like he's not you know it's pretty funny and now people are like really kind of looking for it on like all 22 I do wonder I do wonder though like
- 1:31:36[SPEAKER_00]: what would it look like if they had stuck where they were and taken rookie Pierce all or or or Xavier were they you know what I mean I mean the the worthy trade because the chiefs are kind of that's the way to position to take Pierce all also right isn't that right or am I wrong about that I've looked at uh let's see uh
- 1:32:02[SPEAKER_01]: multiple people Googling safe trade mark of a good podcast so it was right it was it was a viewer to get key on callman lab Maconkey uh... and uh... so after here so it's been there so yeah lab Maconkey jayland polk uh... to the night much more to but like maconkey or a pierce all or worthy
- 1:32:23[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, you can play that game until you're blue in the face, but um, you have to take in Coleman over McCong.
- 1:32:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's a tough luck too.
- 1:32:31[SPEAKER_01]: That is a tough look.
- 1:32:32[SPEAKER_01]: Um,
- 1:32:33[SPEAKER_01]: And who knows, I mean, we would have said Brian Thomas is obviously the best receiver in this class in this year, you know, Roman Dunesay looks pretty good, Malik neighbors look good before we went down.
- 1:32:43[SPEAKER_00]: Marvin's Marvin's come alive like I think Marvin's going to be fine.
- 1:32:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's I guess you have to give these things three years anyway, but like it's.
- 1:32:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, hopefully you hope that the light comes on for Coleman, you know what I mean?
- 1:32:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like you hope because there is talent there.
- 1:32:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's definitely something to work with there.
- 1:32:59[SPEAKER_01]: On the back side, I thought it was just an encouraging to see Baker may field a little bit more mobile.
- 1:33:05[SPEAKER_01]: He went like three weeks without running the ball at all.
- 1:33:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think he looked a little bit healthier even though the stats weren't necessarily there.
- 1:33:13[SPEAKER_00]: And but I don't think I think it's become so normal that they've been this beat up to that like were maybe not giving them quite enough grace for the amount of
- 1:33:24[SPEAKER_00]: The amount of damage has just been done and I mean, playing without no Mike Evans, no Chris Godwin, no bucky Irving.
- 1:33:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think, yeah, Cody Mox still out, you have been Medicine and other starting linemen for them is out of a son, redic on defense, like they're missing a lot of guys and have been missing a lot of guys the last couple of weeks.
- 1:33:45[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, maybe, you know, like,
- 1:33:52[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe, you know, in the long run, they wind up being better for this, but they've dealt with a lot, you know, and that's a big game for them next week playing in LA on Sunday night football.
- 1:34:02[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:34:04[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I mean, after that though, they man, like the rest of their schedule, though, Connor.
- 1:34:11[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm looking at Tampa schedule now.
- 1:34:14[SPEAKER_00]: Lara Zona, New Orleans, Atlanta, Carolina, Miami, Carolina.
- 1:34:21[SPEAKER_00]: I got it.
- 1:34:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know what we do?
- 1:34:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:34:24[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe that ram isn't that big.
- 1:34:27[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 1:34:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like, when you almost, you know what I mean?
- 1:34:31[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, when you almost if you were the bucks, like, soft bench.
- 1:34:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like five of your best players against the Rams and just like you know, I feel like they're maybe.
- 1:34:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's a new turn.
- 1:34:44[SPEAKER_00]: Isn't it?
- 1:34:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's all inch.
- 1:34:47[SPEAKER_00]: Because people were using it in reference to McCarthy, right?
- 1:34:50[SPEAKER_00]: And then who is there somebody else?
- 1:34:51[SPEAKER_01]: But this isn't like for lack of skill, it's like, you know, a couple of these guys are just a little banged up.
- 1:34:56[SPEAKER_01]: Let's let them rest.
- 1:34:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, whatever.
- 1:34:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 1:34:58[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah.
- 1:35:00[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what happens.
- 1:35:01[SPEAKER_01]: All right Albert, we made it to the end of another week.
- 1:35:07[SPEAKER_01]: This, this was one of my favorite weeks of the NFL season.
- 1:35:10[SPEAKER_01]: This is great.
- 1:35:11[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 1:35:11[SPEAKER_01]: This is great.
- 1:35:12[SPEAKER_01]: Um, every camera that I'm in.
- 1:35:15[SPEAKER_01]: What's up?
- 1:35:16[SPEAKER_01]: You're at the Capitol tonight.
- 1:35:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm good on Cowboys Raiders, and that's perfect, right?
- 1:35:21[SPEAKER_01]: Because this is exactly what I like after like a feast on Sunday.
- 1:35:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when you sometimes, when you have like a great dinner on like a Thursday, but then you have Friday night plans, and it's another great restaurant.
- 1:35:34[SPEAKER_01]: You almost feel like gluttonous, and you're like, I can't really enjoy it properly.
- 1:35:37[SPEAKER_01]: This is perfect.
- 1:35:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be on in the background.
- 1:35:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'll watch it.
- 1:35:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'll glance over.
- 1:35:42[SPEAKER_01]: Um, because I have some thoughts, um, you know, I want to watch that Cowboys run game a little bit more and I'm going to watch them when they're on offense, but I expect this to be a comfortable let's park the car game and let's get out of here by, you know, let's get to bed at a decent hour.
- 1:35:56[SPEAKER_00]: So that's my horse.
- 1:36:05[SPEAKER_01]: Albert's gonna be passed now, but we can wake him up.
- 1:36:08[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see you guys on Wednesday at Thursday.
- 1:36:10[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks as always for listening to MNKB.com.
