Transcript
- 0:09Hello, and welcome to this extended New Year's
- 0:13reflection episode of Voices of Life from the
- 0:16Church for Life. I'm Pastor David, and I'm grateful,
- 0:20truly grateful, that you've chosen to begin this
- 0:23new year with me. A new year always carries a
- 0:28sense of possibility. It invites us to pause,
- 0:33to reflect, and to look ahead with fresh eyes.
- 0:40As we step into 2026, we do so not knowing everything
- 0:47that lies ahead, but trusting the one who walks
- 0:51with us into it. Today's episode is a spiritual
- 1:01retreat, a guided journey. A space to breathe,
- 1:07to reset, and to realign your heart with God's
- 1:10purpose. So wherever you are, driving, resting,
- 1:17cleaning, walking, or simply sitting still, I
- 1:23invite you to settle in. Let your heart open.
- 1:29Let your spirit breathe. And let God speak. Before
- 1:38we rush forward, it's important to look back.
- 1:422025 may have been a year of growth, or a year
- 1:46of challenge, or perhaps a mixture of both. There
- 1:53were moments of joy, moments of struggle, lessons
- 1:58learned, some gently and others painfully. Wherever
- 2:04this past year found you, Take a moment to acknowledge
- 2:08it. Give thanks for the blessings. Release what
- 2:15needs to be left behind. Reflection helps us
- 2:19move forward, both with wisdom and courage rather
- 2:25than regret. Think back to one moment in 2025
- 2:31when you felt joy. It doesn't have to be big.
- 2:38Maybe it was a conversation. Maybe looking at
- 2:42a sunrise, a breakthrough, or a moment of laughter.
- 2:49Now, hold that memory gently. Thank God for it.
- 2:57Now think of when God surprised you. A prayer
- 3:03was answered. A door opened? Or maybe it was
- 3:09a burden that was lifted. Give thanks for that
- 3:13too. Now think of a moment that was difficult.
- 3:23A moment that stretched you beyond what you thought
- 3:27you could endure. A moment that hurt. You don't
- 3:35need to relive it. Just acknowledge it. And hear
- 3:41this truth. God was with you there. Even if you
- 3:47didn't feel him. Even if you questioned him.
- 3:52Even if you wondered why. God wastes nothing.
- 3:58Not even the painful chapters. Every year teaches
- 4:05us something. What did 2025 teach you? Did it
- 4:12teach you patience? Did you become more resilient?
- 4:19Did you have a moment of humility? Did you find
- 4:24courage that you didn't think you had? Did it
- 4:30show you had a dependence on God? Sometimes the
- 4:35greatest lessons come wrapped in the hardest
- 4:38seasons. But they shape us. They prepare us.
- 4:46They strengthen us for what's ahead. Let's take
- 4:53a brief moment of silence. A moment to breathe.
- 5:00A moment to let gratitude rise. Thank you, Lord,
- 5:14for this year now is behind us. Thank you for
- 5:18your presence in every moment. Thank you for
- 5:21not leaving our side. One truth remains constant.
- 5:29No matter the year, God is faithful. He was faithful
- 5:35in moments of celebration, faithful in seasons
- 5:40of waiting, faithful, even when the path felt
- 5:45unclear. The same God who carried you through
- 5:50yesterday is the God who will guide you through
- 5:54tomorrow. Think of the times God showed up in
- 6:00ways you didn't expect. Maybe he provided just
- 6:08some kind of olive branch of resources when things
- 6:15were not going so well. Maybe he brought comfort
- 6:19when grief felt heavy. Maybe he sent someone
- 6:24at just the right moment. God's faithfulness
- 6:29is not always loud. Sometimes it whispers. Sometimes
- 6:35it's just a nudge. And sometimes it simply holds
- 6:40us together when we feel like falling apart.
- 6:47Waiting is one of the hardest parts of faith.
- 6:52Waiting for answers. Waiting for healing. Waiting
- 6:57for clarity. Waiting for change. You've always
- 7:02heard the term, patience is a virtue. But waiting
- 7:07is not wasted. God works in the waiting. He strengthens
- 7:14us. He prepares us. He deepens our trust. If
- 7:23you're waiting for something in 2026, you're
- 7:28not waiting alone. We don't know what 2026 holds.
- 7:36But we know who holds us. And that is enough.
- 7:43A new year invites us to let go. Let go of guilt
- 7:48that weighs us down. Let go of fear that holds
- 7:52us back. Let go of expectations that no longer
- 7:57serve God's purpose in our lives. Guilt is a
- 8:04very heavy burden. But God never intended you
- 8:09to carry it forever. Scripture tells us, if we
- 8:15confess our sins, he is faithful and just to
- 8:20forgive us. Forgiveness is not a feeling. It's
- 8:26a truth. It's a promise. And it's a gift from
- 8:31God. Fear. Whispers lies. Fear limits our abilities.
- 8:45And fear paralyzes our actions. But God says,
- 8:53do not fear, for I am with you. Let 2026 be the
- 9:01year where fear loses its grip on you. Sometimes
- 9:09we hold on to expectations, and these expectations
- 9:14were never asked by God for us to carry. We have
- 9:21expectations of perfection, control, even timelines
- 9:28that don't match God's timing. Letting go creates
- 9:34space for God to do something new. As we step
- 9:40into 2026, the question isn't simply, what do
- 9:45I want to achieve? It's, how do I want to live?
- 9:56Purpose isn't always dramatic. Sometimes it's
- 10:02found in small acts of kindness, in faithfulness.
- 10:09inconsistency in showing up. How we treat people
- 10:18matters. How we listen matters. But it's not
- 10:24just listening. We have to hear what they're
- 10:25saying. And how we forgive matters. Forgiving
- 10:35someone else is a very difficult thing. especially
- 10:39if you feel hurt or wronged. But that's also
- 10:43part of letting go. Ask God to shape your relationship
- 10:48this year, to heal what's broken, to strengthen
- 10:54what's good, and guide what's uncertain. Serving
- 11:03others is one of the clearest ways to reflect
- 11:06Christ. It doesn't require a platform, but it
- 11:13does require a willing heart. As this new year
- 11:21begins, I invite you to offer God one simple
- 11:25prayer. Three words. Lord, lead me. Lead me in
- 11:37my decisions. Lead me in my relationships. And
- 11:44lead me in how I serve, love, and grow. When
- 11:53we place our steps in God's hands, we discover
- 11:57peace. Not because everything is certain, but
- 12:02because our trust is secure. Thank you for spending
- 12:15this beautiful New Year's Day with me and beginning
- 12:202026 with Voices of Life from the Church for
- 12:23Life. As you move into this new year, may you
- 12:29walk with courage, live with purpose, and rest
- 12:34in God's faithfulness. Remember, every new beginning
- 12:41starts... with a single step of faith. Later
- 12:46today, we are going to have a bonus segment,
- 12:48and we're going to reflect a little bit more
- 12:51on what changes need to be made. This coming
- 12:57Sunday, we start a 12 -week series, and it will
- 13:02go on through the end of March. And I invite
- 13:05you to stay tuned with those series as we explore
- 13:13our potentials. I'm Pastor David, and this is
- 13:19Voices of Life. Happy New Year, and may God bless
- 13:25you in 2026.
