- 0:58This is Scott Becker with the Becker business
- 1:01and the Becker Healthcare podcast.
- 1:03Today's discussion is 12 big health care innovations,
- 1:06and I'm gonna try and track some of
- 1:07these. Obviously, other people will have other thoughts
- 1:10in them, but I thought I'd run through
- 1:1112 of these and see if you find
- 1:13this interesting.
- 1:14Please feel free, at any time to give
- 1:16me comments or thoughts on this, and we'll
- 1:18go from there. Thank you.
- 1:20First,
- 1:21artificial intelligence and the impact on ambient listening,
- 1:25logistics, and predictive analytics,
- 1:27also in revenue cycle, virtual nursing,
- 1:30and progress on supply chains,
- 1:33also on some of the clinical areas. So,
- 1:35generally, the cascading use cases of artificial intelligence,
- 1:38I would say, is probably the the the
- 1:39first largest,
- 1:41innovation that we're watching.
- 1:43Second,
- 1:44the movement of care
- 1:45increasingly for some doctors in some areas such
- 1:48as primary care
- 1:50to PAs, NPs, and allied health professionals,
- 1:54also, overall, moving towards workflow
- 1:57redesign to change how we deliver care.
- 2:00The third big innovation
- 2:01we're watching is the emergence of GLP ones
- 2:05at scale. Amazing. This has grown into a
- 2:07130,000,000,000
- 2:08a year and growing significantly from there.
- 2:11Fourth,
- 2:13the increasing movement of care out of nutritional
- 2:16health systems and clinics to telehealth and other
- 2:18providers.
- 2:19Interesting enough, it didn't come
- 2:21from Walgreens and CVS and Walmart, but for
- 2:24many other entrants.
- 2:26Yes, Amazon has big part in what they're
- 2:28doing as well.
- 2:30Fifth, the evolution of vaccines and immunotherapies
- 2:33for cancers, and and this is really interesting,
- 2:36particularly as people are starting to catch some
- 2:38of the cancers earlier to see if some
- 2:40of this can offset some of the growth
- 2:42in cancers.
- 2:44Sixth, the movement to minimally invasive surgery. And,
- 2:47again, it's been been over a five to
- 2:48fifteen year period,
- 2:50but increasingly a big, big thing.
- 2:53Seventh, the movement to precision medicine.
- 2:56Again, more and more, does this drug work
- 2:58for this person specifically?
- 3:00And if not, let's move to something else.
- 3:02I think fasting CEOs evolutions.
- 3:05Eighth, the acceleration and training of nurses, and
- 3:08this is particularly when you juxtapose it to
- 3:10what's happened with physicians.
- 3:11We turn up about a 180 to 200,000
- 3:13nurses a year.
- 3:15We're only turning out about we we start
- 3:17about 23,000 doctors a year, and there's a
- 3:19big mismatch in how quickly we're able to
- 3:21train nurses and move them through the system,
- 3:24develop that pipeline
- 3:26line again, and what's going on with physician
- 3:28training.
- 3:29Ninth, something we touched on earlier,
- 3:31the accelerated screening for cancers. This is evolving
- 3:35at really fast speed to do more and
- 3:37more through blood test in other ways than
- 3:39the traditional ways, and then this leads to
- 3:41a lot of people thinking
- 3:43and and maybe on the verge of getting
- 3:45cancer or having cancers, and then we gotta
- 3:47figure a way to make sure we could
- 3:48treat them well. Tenth,
- 3:50this is a move back to the past,
- 3:52is the movement of health systems to refocus
- 3:54on cardiovascular,
- 3:56oncology, orthopedics,
- 3:58and those things that are the big demand
- 4:00and big dollar areas.
- 4:02Finally, eleventh, I'm a big fan of the
- 4:04development of changes in pharmaceutical
- 4:06pricing, whether through CivicaRx
- 4:09or Mark Cuban cost plus, just real evolutions
- 4:12that will towing pharmacy and how it's delivered.
- 4:15Still not cheap.
- 4:16Twelfth, the increasing use cases for wearables.
- 4:20Again, you know, more and more people trying
- 4:22to find ways to use wearables
- 4:24to help them with their sleep, with their
- 4:26diagnosis, with how they're doing, with when they
- 4:28should get to the doctor, and a lot
- 4:29more.
- 4:30I I think so many fascinating
- 4:32evolutions and innovations going on.
- 4:35We can go on in this for for
- 4:36a long time, a lot we're still missing,
- 4:39but lots of different fascinating health care innovations.
- 4:42We hope you enjoy this podcast,
