Of today's feast, Dom Gaspar Lefevre writes the following. Saint Hyacinth, called the Apostle of the North, was born in November at the Castle Of Camin near Breslau. Having gone to Rome, he was received there into the order of friar preachers by its founder Saint Dominic in the Church of Saint Sabina.

At the age of 33 he was made superior of the mission which this saint sent to Poland. Saint Hyacinth then went over to Austria, Poland, Denmark, Scotland, and Livonia everywhere preaching the word of God which his numerous miracles confirmed. He died on the feast of the assumption in the year of our Lord 1257. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen.

The introit. Right reason is on the good man's lips. Well waited are all his counsels. The law of God rules in his heart. Allay thy impatience with the wicked.
• 1:51
Envy not the lot of evildoers. Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. Right reason is on the good man's lips. Well weighted are all his counsels.
• 2:17
The law of God rules in his heart. The Collect. Let us pray. O God, who does gladden us by the annual feast of Blessed Hyacinth, thy confessor, mercifully grant that as we celebrate his natal day we may also imitate his actions through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
• 2:56
A lesson from the wisdom of Sirach. Blessed is the man who lives unreproved, who has no greed for gold, and puts no trust in his store of riches. Show us such a man, and we will be loud in his praise. Here is a life to wonder at. A man so tested and found perfect wins eternal honor.
• 3:25
He kept clear of sin when sinful ways were easy. Did no wrong when wrong lay in his power. His treasure is safely preserved in the Lord's keeping and wherever faithful men are met his alms deeds will be remembered. The gradual. The just man shall flourish like the palm tree.
• 3:55
In the house of the Lord he shall grow to greatness like the cedars of Lebanon, to proclaim thy mercy in the morning and thy truth in the night. Alleluia. Alleluia. Blessed is he who endures under trials. When he has proved his worth, he shall win the crown of life.
• 4:22
Hallelujah. A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke. At that time Jesus said to his disciples, your loins must be girt and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men awaiting their master's return from my wedding feast so that they may open to him at once when he comes and knocks at the door. Blessed are those servants whom their master will find watching when he comes. I promise you, he will gird himself and make them sit down to meet and minister to them.
• 5:09
Whether he comes in the second quarter of the night or in the third, blessed are those servants if he finds them alert. Be sure of this. If the master of the house had known at what time the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and not allowed his house to be broken open. You too then must stand ready for at what hour you think not, the son of man will come. The offertory.
• 5:48
My truth and my mercy shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted. The secret. In memory of Thy Saints, O Lord, we present Thee the sacrifice of praise by which we trust to be delivered from both present and future evils through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The preface of Our Lady.
• 6:30
It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, and that we should praise and bless and proclaim thee in the assumption of blessed Mary ever Virgin, who also conceived Thine only begotten Son by the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost and the glory of her virginity still abiding, gave forth to the world the everlasting light, Jesus Christ our Lord. Through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, and the power stand in all. The heavens and the heavenly hosts, together with the blessed Seraphim, in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it. Together with them we entreat thee that thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with humble praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory.
• 7:50
Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion. Blessed is the servant who is found on the watch when the Lord comes.
• 8:11
Amen, I say to you. He shall place him over all his goods. The post communion. Let us pray. Refreshed by meat and drink from heaven, O God, we humbly beseech thee that we may be protected by the prayers of him in whose memory we have partaken through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
• 8:49
Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Saint Hyacinth, pray for us.
