- 0:16Yes, Dielle Luster and I go by D Simone on Instagram.
- 0:19That's what they all know, me, Coach D Simone.
- 0:21But you're going to call me D because we're friends already.

- 0:28show notes and you're like, oh, I wonder what her Instagram is?
- 0:31It's right down below. All the things websites, all the
- 0:35links are down below. I wanted to thank you D for
- 0:40coming on the show. I am so honored and excited and
- 0:44I and I'm already feeling like the amazing energy from you.
- 0:48Thank you for having me. When I saw you, you were so real
- 0:51and so honest and authentic. And I'm like, yes, let's talk,
- 0:54let's get together. This is my new girlfriend.
- 0:57Yes, well, and then I was at the gym earlier today, I was doing
- 1:01my little podcast homework and I was like searching around and I
- 1:05could already tell from your picture then like your your
- 1:07smile and I'm sure you get that like just everything.
- 1:09I'm like, she's obviously amazing, but I was like, oh, I'm
- 1:12just clicking on some videos and then once I heard you talk and
- 1:14stuff, I'm like, oh, she might be a little bit of a goofball
- 1:17like me too. I think when I was like, oh,
- 1:21she's kooky. She's kooky too.
- 1:24Like you're, you're, you're amazing and you're a veteran.
- 1:27You are. Thank you for your, but you're
- 1:29also a little kooky, which I love.
- 1:31I am. I'm kooky.
- 1:32It makes us. I enjoy that side of me.
- 1:35I'm not going to hide it. Like, yeah, it's.
- 1:37Great. It's great.
- 1:40You know, serious enough? No way.
- 1:42It is never a dull moment when you're hanging out with us.
- 1:45It's kooky. Right, like I'll tell you a
- 1:48story. I have these braids and I was in
- 1:49my closet and my hair got caught on the hanger.
- 1:53So I'm just like, oh, dying laughing.
- 1:57It's the it's. Your sons come in, they're like
- 2:00mom, you're like, I'm good, I'm fine, I'm fine.
- 2:05I got it. Oh, I it's life, man.
- 2:10Yeah. Beauty is pain.
- 2:12No, I'm just kidding. You're like listen, OK, no,
- 2:16you're the back when you signed on for the people who weren't
- 2:19here 5 minutes ago, everybody 5 we met 5 minutes ago literally
- 2:25doesn't feel like that. But when you signed on your
- 2:30background and your whole vibe, I'm like, and then we
- 2:33coordinated by accident with the the neon and all that stuff.
- 2:37So there's just gonna be a lot of goodness and laughs and
- 2:43realness in this conversation. I can already feel it.
- 2:46Let's do it. I can.
- 2:48OK, So Dee, we connected like God has been sending me the most
- 2:54amazing people and the majority of which come through
- 2:59connections through Instagram, someone commenting, someone
- 3:03liking or then me seeing what I'm being like.
- 3:06Like so I think we connected. Was it through a reel with Adam?
- 3:10It was, it was. It was a reel through Adam.
- 3:12Yes, he is Adam. I don't know him personally.
- 3:19No, it just popped up and I'm like, that's awesome.
- 3:22You're awesome. Yeah.
- 3:24And here we. Are thank the algorithm for once
- 3:26it got it right. Oh my gosh.
- 3:28No, it's seriously. I'm like, you're sending me not.
- 3:31I mean, you're sending me people who want to share their stories,
- 3:34like, and it's happening very effortlessly where they're like,
- 3:38yeah, sure, when? Tomorrow.
- 3:40Cool. I'm like what?
- 3:40Wait. Huh.
- 3:42OK, like. Yeah, it's a shift of energy.
- 3:45We feel it. We feel God's grace surrounding
- 3:48us. I think it's time for voices
- 3:50that matter to be heard, to make an impact.
- 3:53And he's letting it be seen and shown.
- 3:55And we're shining lights and we're willing.
- 3:57I'm willing to use my voice. Yeah.
- 4:00So you are no stranger to using your voice.
- 4:03This is the part where I love to brag about the guests in front
- 4:06of them, if you're OK with that. Oh yes.
- 4:10And you just sit there and then I just talk about you and then
- 4:13you get to talk after. But it's all.
- 4:15So guys, if you don't know D OK, DL right.
- 4:21Am I saying you're right? DL dial dial OK, dial I got to
- 4:25get it right. But you go by D yes.
- 4:28OK, So dial you are you are an Army veteran, which have so many
- 4:36things to say about that. First of all, I want to thank
- 4:38you for your service because that is incredible.
- 4:42So you obviously we're going to get all into that.
- 4:45You are equally important. More importantly, all of the
- 4:49things A mother of three, three boys.
- 4:52Two boys, one girl. Two boys, one girl.
- 4:55The one in the middle's a girl, but she's my roughest one.
- 4:58She is embodies the boy. It's her OK.
- 5:02She's the second born the it's. The second born your protection
- 5:07exactly as as they are as well, but also their mom is an army
- 5:11veteran. So I'm like, yeah, they're you
- 5:15guys are fine. You'll be good.
- 5:16They're protected. Yeah, it's amazing.
- 5:19And I'm not done, by the way. I'm just getting started, guys.
- 5:21So Army veteran, which we're going to talk, talk all about.
- 5:24You're a mother of three. You have a degree in radio and
- 5:28television broadcasting. You are an empowerment coach,
- 5:33literally. That's like my two favorite
- 5:36kinds of people who are coaches and veterans.
- 5:40That's how you were meant to be. I mean, I, I just, yeah, I just
- 5:45have so much respect for our military.
- 5:49It's beyond. Yeah, it's, it was a beautiful
- 5:52life. I'm so thankful that I did it.
- 5:54It was rough. It was tough.
- 5:55I worked hand in hand with infantry, so I was pretty much
- 5:58frontline as a bridge crew member.
- 6:00I built the bridges that they drove over to go frontline.
- 6:04That's what I did. It was insane, insane, but I
- 6:07loved every second of it. It was so thrilling, you know?
- 6:12Wow. OK, so let's just back up
- 6:16because all the things so. We got.
- 6:18Connected and you had there's so many I want to touch upon, you
- 6:22know, in this hour we spend together and I'm sure this will
- 6:26be the first hopefully if you have time in your schedule
- 6:30because you're amazing and you're doing so many cool things
- 6:33to collaborate in some way in the future.
- 6:35Obviously, this is going to be the beginning, but I would love
- 6:38to touch upon your story, like how you approach adversity, how
- 6:44you get through it, and then also how you help your clients
- 6:49get through adversity, Right? Yeah.
- 6:51So this is the part where I'm going to zip it and I'm going to
- 6:55ask you to just kind of take me through your life, take me
- 7:01through when you think about adversity, like all the things.
- 7:05I'm just going to be quiet and let you start talking and then
- 7:07telling your story. How about that?
- 7:09Let's do it. OK, I'll start from from about
- 7:13after high school time frame. I was in a relationship and it
- 7:16was now looking hindsight, it was detrimental.
- 7:19It was having fun. We were racing cars.
- 7:22It was all the things I was down this fun girl slope and my
- 7:26sister who is the light of my life, my joy, my everything is
- 7:29my my older sister. She saw it and she's like, we
- 7:32need to get you together. And the heartbreak was so
- 7:35drastic. I'm like, you know what, I'm
- 7:37going to the Army just drastic. And she's I was like, OK, you
- 7:40know what, if that's what you want to do, I believe in you.
- 7:42You're tough enough. Let's go.
- 7:44And I did. And that's where I started the
- 7:45journey. I'm from a small town, so
- 7:46there's many, not many options outside of that.
- 7:49But I did go to college before the Army ad Bethune Cookman
- 7:52College. But it was so fun.
- 7:55It was so exciting. I'm like, I'm I'm never going to
- 7:57graduate. Mom, you're wasting your money.
- 7:59I am just having fun partying. I'll be honest.
- 8:01You know, that's fine, yeah. Yeah.
- 8:05So Fast forward, I got into the military and that's where I
- 8:08found the discipline, the structure, the the empowerment
- 8:12of self. And especially as a woman, there
- 8:15was no, oh, you're a woman, You don't have to nae, nae, nae, nae
- 8:20nae nae. Let's go.
- 8:24If we're watching 12 miles, you're going 12 miles.
- 8:27Yes, it was very much if we're lifting this 1000 LB bridge
- 8:31piece, grab your piece, let's go.
- 8:33So it was very much empowering to know that me and my best
- 8:36friend Gina, she was my battle buddy, but she's still to this
- 8:39day my best friend ever. It was me and her and she's just
- 8:42as small. And we did it.
- 8:43We did everything it took. We went through all of the the
- 8:48rigmarole. I I still to this day sometimes
- 8:51struggle with the thought of going out of the country, even
- 8:53because of the POW training. There was just different things
- 8:57that we were taught and now is embedded as a veteran that many
- 9:01might not think of that I'm very like, oh, you know, it's.
- 9:05You can't look. You can't look at life the same.
- 9:09I don't. You.
- 9:10I don't. I don't look at anything the
- 9:12same. And now, you know, as a single
- 9:14woman, I'm like, I'm such a different girlfriend because we
- 9:17might be sitting on the couch and I'm like, you know, I need
- 9:19to train how to fireman carry you if there's ever a house fire
- 9:22or like who's going on the roof or who's going if a zombie
- 9:25apocalypse. I know they're like, whoa, it's
- 9:29just I'm now wired differently. And it's that adversity and that
- 9:35even that fight with the soft girl era and the still the woman
- 9:39empowerment in civilian world is even something that I have to
- 9:43struggle with her or learn to to manage.
- 9:46Is that dark and light feminine masculine energy.
- 9:50It's it's very intriguing. You know, it's a very slippery
- 9:54slope. And that's why I keep God at the
- 9:56center of it all. Oh.
- 9:59Yes, that is such the best thing I've ever heard.
- 10:02Yeah, he's at the center of it all.
- 10:04Because if I go with just me, who knows where I'll be?
- 10:10There is no, yeah, I'm going to need, I need a switch, I need
- 10:13something to kind of a calibration, right?
- 10:15Yeah, yeah. And, and with the military, we
- 10:18went to five different states. I was married for 13 years.
- 10:21So he and I were soldiers together.
- 10:24You know, it worked. While we were soldiers together,
- 10:26we did civilian life in five different states, including
- 10:29Texas, Mississippi, here in Florida, just different States.
- 10:32And when we came here, I grounded myself in Tampa and it
- 10:36was amazing. That's where I'm, I learned to
- 10:39hone myself in as a woman. You know, women empowerment is
- 10:42something I've been doing since the military with my
- 10:44girlfriends. We even with my battle Buddy Guy
- 10:46friends, I was always that friend that they would come to,
- 10:49to calm down for peace for and a word of advice.
- 10:54And it was very much needed outside of just practical things
- 10:57or, you know, always being so strong.
- 11:00We need a place where we can just calm down.
- 11:03I would cook for everybody. I'd invite them over.
- 11:06We'd have Christmas at my house. It was always so endearing.
- 11:11I loved it. And to this day, I love my
- 11:13military family. You know, I just became that and
- 11:18on this side, I wanted to continue to do the same thing,
- 11:21IE becoming a certified empowerment coach.
- 11:24And that was where I'm finding myself as a woman.
- 11:28I have this, this calling within my being.
- 11:33What am I going to do with myself?
- 11:34It's when we have to face those shadows of self and really look
- 11:38inward. Where am I going wrong?
- 11:40Where am I just, oh, it's fine when it's not when you have to
- 11:45face those hard decisions that sit in your gut as a woman, you
- 11:49know, like I need to face it. I need to face it, you know, and
- 11:57that that practice became my lessons.
- 11:59That practice became what I would speak even when I was
- 12:02scared or nervous or I didn't know.
- 12:04I gained that community. So my girls, can we go through
- 12:07this together? I don't know what.
- 12:11Yeah, well, it everything you're saying too, it's you're, you're
- 12:15not alone. You have your friends and God.
- 12:19It's like you have that awareness.
- 12:22Absolutely. And that's who I I really leaned
- 12:24into God. I really begin to read my Bible
- 12:27and really have a foundation of who I wanted to become and where
- 12:31I'd stand. Where would this be built from?
- 12:33Is it social media? Is it entertainment world?
- 12:35Is it the trendy? Is it your career?
- 12:38Am I my own idol? Let me get in my word and see
- 12:43what the good Lord tells me to do and who to be.
- 12:47Yeah, yeah. It's mind blowing.
- 12:50Like I understand exactly what you're saying because I'm now
- 12:54reading the Bible and in a Bible study and probably maybe a year
- 12:58or two ago I wouldn't, I'd be like, wait, what?
- 13:00Like I wouldn't. Now I'm like when I read the
- 13:03Bible or do anything related to God, all of the downloads and
- 13:06answers come. They just come when the things
- 13:10that are on your mind, you're like, OK, if I read this, even
- 13:12if it's just a little verse, I'm like.
- 13:14Right. OK, if I were to, yeah, then I
- 13:18know the answer is pretty clear. Are you actually going to do it?
- 13:22Because it's pretty clear. It's pretty clear.
- 13:25It's something you just read and you're just kind of not you're.
- 13:27Not exactly you're. Pretending like it confused, but
- 13:30he just said it right there he. Said it right.
- 13:33There very nicely. It's very convicting now.
- 13:37Now you feel it rather than just reading it.
- 13:40You're convicted by it and that's what causes the change.
- 13:45That's what we have to stir and work and write about.
- 13:49Those are the things when it stirs your emotions and convict,
- 13:52you move on it. It's hard.
- 13:55It's hard. So let me ask you this.
- 13:58Did you before the military did? When did you find God?
- 14:02Was God always a part of your life?
- 14:05Yeah, absolutely. I grew up in church.
- 14:07My mother was always sick in as a church.
- 14:09I worked with the church. We were always there.
- 14:11There was always something. So I grew up in the church, yes,
- 14:14but I didn't build my own personal relationship until
- 14:18military. That's when I was like, uh oh.
- 14:20Because it conflicted What I was grew up raised as and what I was
- 14:25training to become was very conflicting, very conflicting.
- 14:30I am trained to kill. It's a very morbid, it's very
- 14:34dark, but that's the reality You are trained to take out without
- 14:38a thought. Growing up religious and and a
- 14:41Christian, it's like that's the last thing I'm going to do.
- 14:45Right, right it was. Very it was a friction and I had
- 14:50to to lean into God and that's my sister was my saving grace.
- 14:53Even in that I used my sister. If my sister's life was on the
- 14:57line, what would I do? I'd puncture her lung if there
- 15:00was fluid. I'd tie a tourniquet on her leg.
- 15:03I'd fireman carry her out of a building.
- 15:05I'd mow anybody down. That's in my way about my
- 15:09sister, and that's how I got through it.
- 15:13It's so dark. It's so dark.
- 15:15And coming from a woman, it's even more like whoa.
- 15:19But that's the reality of being a veteran there.
- 15:21It comes with the cost for sure mentally.
- 15:26Yes, well, thank you for sharing that.
- 15:28And I want to say what came to mind was in, I don't know, it
- 15:33just came and downloaded was God's army, though.
- 15:36Like there's an there is gosh, it is a you are battling against
- 15:42some really dark stuff and you have stepped up to be the one.
- 15:49You know, we all have a, a calling.
- 15:52You have a, you have a the toughest.
- 15:55I feel like when and I that's why I'm so I was raised like my,
- 15:59I'm so patriotic. I love our veterans.
- 16:02I am like when I see anyone in a coffee shop, I'm like, Oh, I
- 16:05must like I that's I must go talk to you and say thank you.
- 16:08And if and if I'm going to buy you coffee, like that's it.
- 16:11Like you don't mess with like if you mess with a veteran around
- 16:13me, like I, I, I don't know how to handle that.
- 16:16Don't do it. No, like don't do it around me
- 16:18like. But what I want to tell you is
- 16:21that that's such a, it's a weight to bear, but yet somebody
- 16:26has to like fill that role. And it's like the army of God,
- 16:32right? Right.
- 16:33When you're like fighting evil. Absolutely.
- 16:36It is putting on the armor. There wasn't a moment I wasn't
- 16:39praying. There wasn't a moment that I
- 16:40didn't need to get near and dear to me.
- 16:43There was a moment where we had to dig our own foxholes, which
- 16:46is a grave and you sleep in it and you guard your friends and
- 16:49that is a part of your brain structure changing.
- 16:53I am prepared to sleep in my grave to protect those I love.
- 16:56It's that mentality. But on this side, it makes it
- 17:01that much more beautiful to say, oh, my sister, oh, my, my
- 17:05daughters, my children. It's all is well.
- 17:08All is well. I know, I know.
- 17:11So I just draw everybody in in that that manner.
- 17:14Yeah, it's a beautiful. No.
- 17:18So you were deployed. Where were you deployed?
- 17:21I was at Fort Knox. I was in Garrison Fort Knox.
- 17:23So we, we trained heavily. Like that was that was, that's
- 17:28the base. You know, you have to be top
- 17:31notch for Fort Knox. We guarded the base.
- 17:33So it was very much that, yeah, all goals there.
- 17:37All of our, our valuables are at Fort Knox.
- 17:41So it was protecting the land. Oh my God.
- 17:44That's the expression. It's like Fort Knox.
- 17:47Yes, lockdown, like Fort Knox, is a real thing.
- 17:52And I already, I researched and I did my research and then I,
- 17:55I'm so glad that happened actually on where I'm like,
- 17:57wait, Fort Knox, Fort Knox, that's very secure and very
- 18:03famous. Oh, yes.
- 18:05Oh, yes. It is very much protected in
- 18:07that way. Yeah.
- 18:09You know, so I take all my training and I take it with me,
- 18:11and I wear it as a badge of honor.
- 18:13I don't because you can get in a depressive state, you can get in
- 18:16a darker state, which I've seen so many of my battle buddies and
- 18:20other soldiers take on who have deployed, who have actually put
- 18:24that training into real life practice, doing it, seeing some
- 18:30things. I'm blessed that I didn't have
- 18:32to go that drastic, but the training even was enough.
- 18:36Girl well and your nervous system and rewind and like you
- 18:41also I feel like military once and again I have not been
- 18:45trained so please correct me if I'm wrong.
- 18:48Going through the training and then being part of that
- 18:51community. You cannot look at everyday life
- 18:56the same, right? Right.
- 18:58Even if you're after the fact like you are now.
- 19:00See, you are you look at everything through the lens of
- 19:03what you've been trained and you've also seen and are aware
- 19:06of the darker side of life. Exactly, exactly.
- 19:10I don't look at things the same. I, you know, I travel solo here
- 19:14in the States. I'll travel to New York.
- 19:15I, I love my annual trip to New York and I travel by myself and
- 19:18most of my girlfriends are like, Daddy, you know, you're not
- 19:21scared. You're not.
- 19:21I don't have that fear that most, you know, might assume
- 19:26like, oh, a single woman trap. No, no.
- 19:27You're like, I know what to do. I got this.
- 19:30I'm going to enjoy myself. Yeah, even protecting my
- 19:34children. I have this awareness that even
- 19:36instilled in them, you know, it's very much crudes forward
- 19:40the circle, you know, but it's I'm very much it's how my brain
- 19:45works. It's, I'm, I love that side.
- 19:49It's a bright side, you know, I'm not afraid of the world.
- 19:52Of course I know God is protecting me all times but.
- 19:55Sure, it's the the awareness, peace and then like it's
- 19:59discernment, which I'm learning about as like baby Christian,
- 20:02baby Christian. I'm like a Christian toddler.
- 20:06I'm a little toddler. I was like raised Catholic and
- 20:10then I like would just do my own thing and I was like, why am I
- 20:12anxious all the time? Oh, maybe because I'm not
- 20:15talking to God ever. And then.
- 20:17You know, now I'm like, huh? Yeah.
- 20:20What drew you in? What?
- 20:22What's it? What made you say I?
- 20:23This is the journey. You know what it was?
- 20:27Narcissistic abuse recovery. Look at that.
- 20:33A little bit of that. Get it?
- 20:35So, and I think we touched on on a little bit of that word and,
- 20:39and kind of stuff before, but like, again, I don't want to
- 20:42talk about myself. I'm I'm rambling.
- 20:44I want to come back to you and we'll probably all relate it,
- 20:47but so take me through. You said you grew up with God,
- 20:51and where did you grow up? I grew up in Sanford, FL, right
- 20:54outside of Orlando, FL so I grew up with Mickey.
- 20:56Mouse. OK, Yes.
- 20:57Florida. Awesome, awesome.
- 20:59Florida. Amazing.
- 21:00OK, so you grew up there, then you go to the military.
- 21:04And how long were you in the military?
- 21:06I served three years. I personally served three years,
- 21:09but I served 8 as the spouse. So I went from soldier to
- 21:12spouse. Continued.
- 21:13So then I did that journey. So I've served on both sides as
- 21:16a spouse and the soldier. Yeah.
- 21:18And that was my longest journey as the spouse.
- 21:21So I understood more and it was great to be the spouse.
- 21:24And that's where a lot of my time as a spouse, 10 years
- 21:28total. Can you, if you were to kind of
- 21:30say like if someone was like, hey, so based on your time in
- 21:34the Army, when someone says like, hey Dee, how do you get
- 21:39through adversity based on like how does the military and your
- 21:42time in the army? I mean, obviously there's so
- 21:44many different situations, but how do they train you to look at
- 21:48adversity? Well, it's, it's one of those
- 21:54things where you take it head on because it might, it might be
- 21:59you being sleep deprived, you haven't slept in 36 hours or
- 22:03your spouse might have just left you and took everything in your
- 22:06house, including your children. And you now have to tomorrow
- 22:106:00 AM go to training. You know, there was different
- 22:14things where it was to take it head on.
- 22:16And it's much like fear in the world now in my civilian life,
- 22:20when I feel the fear, I feel it as in take it on head on, face
- 22:24it Got at Percy. You just have to face it.
- 22:27There's there's moments where I'm like, OK, I want to cry.
- 22:29I want to just soak. And I just don't.
- 22:32No, no, no. But I'm trained to take it head
- 22:36on. Yeah.
- 22:39That's a really good answer because it's you.
- 22:42I it's so easy to avoid. Yeah, avoid, avoid it you.
- 22:50But in military, you can't. You cannot.
- 22:53There's no way around it. There's no way.
- 22:55Around it? No, you are called.
- 22:57Nope, no, yes. We're rocking 12 miles.
- 23:02I can't say mile 4. I'm so tired.
- 23:05I'm going to sit down and have a sandwich now.
- 23:07No, you're going to get through 12 miles.
- 23:11However, you have to tell your yourself, I have to do this.
- 23:15And that's what you really have to almost delusion.
- 23:19It's almost a form of that psyching yourself out.
- 23:23I got to do this. And that's how I get through
- 23:25life. You know, I've done teaching,
- 23:27I've done school and there's been moments where I'm just so
- 23:30like, oh, I'm overwhelmed and then I'm like, I got to do it.
- 23:33That means sitting up 1:00 AM planning your schedule for when
- 23:36the kids have to go, for when you're going to school, face the
- 23:40thing and plan it out and do it. So that's kind of how I just, it
- 23:45keeps me happy. It keeps me authentic.
- 23:48Yeah, yeah. And once you face it and again,
- 23:53I have not faced anything military wise Fort Knox.
- 23:57So like however the parallels, right, like as a parallel, I'm
- 24:01sure in your, well, obviously in your empowerment coaching
- 24:04business, which we're going to talk about, you take your
- 24:06training and the principles and that's you help apply that to
- 24:11life, right? Yeah.
- 24:12So it's like, I don't know if you found this, but once the
- 24:16hardest part for me with anything is that first minute,
- 24:20but then once you've looked at it for maybe a couple minutes,
- 24:24you're like, all right, this still sucks, but like at least
- 24:28at least like I'm already going. So I'll just keep going.
- 24:30Or sometimes you go, oh, you was that wasn't even what you
- 24:34thought. Like you're like, come on, you
- 24:36avoided this for two weeks. Come on.
- 24:38Yes, It might be just making that phone call.
- 24:41It might be just looking at that that's sending that e-mail.
- 24:43That first step, once you get past, you're like, OK, now
- 24:47you're in it. You just click on Yes.
- 24:51You just go. It's almost like it sounds like
- 24:53in the military no option of quitting helps you not quit
- 24:58because you can't. Exactly.
- 24:59You can't exactly. You can't quit.
- 25:02You can't quit. And when once graduation came
- 25:04and there's a moment where we all stump our feet and the
- 25:07lights come on and it's this moment, the stage is set.
- 25:11We're ready. We all, there's just tears
- 25:13because we all have felt. Yet.
- 25:16We. Did it?
- 25:18Yeah. Yeah, and that's what I I, I
- 25:22strive for in life with my clients, those things, you know,
- 25:25whatever it may be, I want them to have that empowered moment.
- 25:28Like I really did it, Dee. Yeah, you did.
- 25:32You always could. Yeah.
- 25:35Yeah. OK, So you have the graduation
- 25:38moment, you're you're in the Army and then you also are an
- 25:43Army spouse. And then so, so take me through
- 25:48again, like I know there's so many parts of your story and
- 25:51this will just scratch the surface, but take me through the
- 25:55next chapter of your life and kind of where you find yourself.
- 25:58Yeah, OK. I was my mommy's spouse for a
- 26:01while there. He got out because of some
- 26:03medical conditions. So once we came to Tampa, you
- 26:06know, things kind of they were OK, but they got a little bit
- 26:09worse in this time frame. Now we're like living
- 26:11separately. We're starting to feel the
- 26:14distance start to happen between us.
- 26:17This is after the military because it was so much of our
- 26:19identity, so much of our marriage.
- 26:22That's what we were based on, our friendship groups, our
- 26:24friend groups. It was all encapsulated within
- 26:27our military life. It was a totally different life.
- 26:30So civilian. I understood his perplexion, my
- 26:35perplex, but I was very much, I was older, so I was, you know, I
- 26:39had time. He joined at 19, I joined at 23.
- 26:42I had some life skills. So I wasn't new to civilian
- 26:46world. So we just kind of started to
- 26:47grow, grow apart. I was ready and he was more
- 26:51fragile and and fearful. You know, it was there was this
- 26:55friction. We lived apart for a while, you
- 26:57know, so that's when things started to OK, who am I going to
- 27:01be without him? He's a great person.
- 27:05That was the hard part. He's a beautiful soul.
- 27:09There's no, oh, there was infidelity.
- 27:10He was mean. He was there's, it was not that
- 27:14that was actually me. Oh, it was a woman.
- 27:20That was the harder part of the relationship.
- 27:23There was resentment coming from me towards him.
- 27:25There was this bitterness. You're supposed to be the leader
- 27:28of the family. You should be knowing you should
- 27:30be doing. You should be.
- 27:32There was this judgment from me, you know.
- 27:36So there was a moment where I'm like, I love you enough to let
- 27:39you go experience life, how you need to do it, how you want to
- 27:43do it at your own pace. So that created adversity,
- 27:47especially for our kids and, and just breaking the family apart.
- 27:49But he got ill and you know, things happened where he came
- 27:52back, but we just finally decided to go our own ways.
- 27:55And and now that's where the empowerment became really what I
- 28:02needed to hold on to for my, my, myself and my communities.
- 28:06There were moments where I would do videos and it was just what I
- 28:09was thinking or feeling or, and my girlfriends would reach out
- 28:12like Dee. I I can understand.
- 28:14There was my YouTube community really saved me in that way.
- 28:18That's where I really developed my relationship with God was he
- 28:22was a great person. I was spoiled, Ryan.
- 28:25I lived a soft life like it was great, and to break away from
- 28:32that. No, but so it wasn't, it was, it
- 28:36was a yeah, like. Yeah, it's, it wasn't a typical
- 28:40easy type of fix. And I knew I, it was the
- 28:44problem, you know, so it was almost just saving him from me.
- 28:48He's so innocent. He's so sweet.
- 28:50He's so kind in that way. He grew up in Mississippi.
- 28:53He's a country boy. He's just by hand.
- 28:56He's so traditional. I love, love his soul dearly.
- 29:00To this day, he's still one of my best friends.
- 29:02I, I love him dearly, you know, So it was me that had those
- 29:06traits of, you know, being the, you can ruin his life if you
- 29:11don't either break away from him or be willing to be the partner
- 29:15that he needs, you know, and it was choosing myself in that
- 29:19moment. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:22And you know, like it, it's. I'm sure you've learned in life
- 29:28like things happen and you grow apart from people in different
- 29:33ways in different. Like it doesn't relationships
- 29:36change even when you don't think certain ones will ever change?
- 29:40You're like. You're like, no, that one, but
- 29:42that one won't. That one won't.
- 29:43And you're like, no, but you don't know that because like
- 29:46we're all changing and God is actually, as you know, God is
- 29:51changing us at when we're open to it at different times.
- 29:55So it's, yeah, your journey. It's in those lessons, it's in
- 29:58those, those moments, and it's letting go of the control of
- 30:02thinking we're even in control. It's understanding God has his
- 30:07hands on everything that's happening.
- 30:09Trust the process and the timing of your life and let God lead
- 30:13the way. It's getting out of your own
- 30:14way. You know, that was really,
- 30:16really hard for me. Yeah, one of your YouTube videos
- 30:21that I was listening to earlier where you were like, you were
- 30:25just talking, which I love and that's I just, I love doing that
- 30:28too 'cause you're like, listen, this is the real what I'm going
- 30:31through and like, if you resonate, then great.
- 30:34If not, then I'm the only one and I'm crazy.
- 30:37And now it's recorded and now it's recorded great.
- 30:40No, but like more off you usually get like, Oh my gosh, me
- 30:43too, you know, but literally you said you're excited for what's
- 30:50come to come. And if there's also and I'm not
- 30:52sure, I can't remember the timing of when it was recorded,
- 30:54but like I could relate to like two things can be true at one
- 30:58time. You're very excited about this
- 31:00new phase and adventure and possibility, but then there's
- 31:03like a grieving or a sadness or like a like it's and then I'm
- 31:09like, Oh my gosh, I feel that right now and I'm like, am I
- 31:13grieving? Like, and then I'm like, Oh,
- 31:15there's stuff like I, I just identities.
- 31:18And then like also losing, like realizing I'm drifting from some
- 31:23people, but then being like, yeah, I see why.
- 31:26But then being like, oh, but that's sad.
- 31:29It's so sad because you're comfortable with it.
- 31:31It's your comfort zone that's fading away and you're not sure
- 31:34of the unknown. But you know, it's great.
- 31:37It's for my highest good. But I'm so comfortable with
- 31:40these people, with this way of thinking of life.
- 31:43I know if it makes me sad, I can just cry about it and it's fine.
- 31:45I'll just deal with it. It's letting and shedding those
- 31:49layers and letting it go while also being like, I have no idea
- 31:53what I'm getting myself into but.
- 31:56Let's. Let.
- 31:57Go, but it's exciting. It's exciting.
- 32:01And by the way, I don't want to be like arrogant in that.
- 32:04Like I've grown apart from some people and I'm sure maybe
- 32:07they're happy about like maybe they're like, yeah, she's really
- 32:09annoying now. Like, I don't know, I'm not the
- 32:11one that's like. I'm not like the villain.
- 32:13We're all the villain. We're all.
- 32:14Like I'm not like, oh, I've grown apart because I'm a puppy.
- 32:18Like no, we've probably grown apart because we just for
- 32:21whatever reason don't resonate like.
- 32:24Yeah. But like, yeah, I love that, how
- 32:26you're so humble about it. You're so humble.
- 32:28Like you could you could see. Where I could be like, oh, I,
- 32:31you know, it's not like that at all.
- 32:32It's literally like, for whatever reason, I mean, there's
- 32:36some people around like, yeah, you're just so negative.
- 32:38I can't be around you. Like sorry.
- 32:41Because you yourself are growing out of that.
- 32:42You know, maybe Once Upon a time you were OK with letting
- 32:45yourself suffer through it. And now you're like, I have no
- 32:48patience for that anymore. And.
- 32:50Then they're probably like, she talks so much and I'm like,
- 32:52yeah, I do. But it's at least it's not
- 32:54negative. Hello.
- 32:57And there's people that love to hear me talk and I have a
- 33:00community that I can go to that enjoys all my words.
- 33:03Yeah, I do. Exactly.
- 33:05Like at my. My poor husband who's like quiet
- 33:08and he's like, I go, am I talking a lot?
- 33:10And he goes uh huh. And I'm like, is it annoying?
- 33:13He's like, no, I'm. Just I loving you and I'm like,
- 33:16it's you, all right, Accepting you for you.
- 33:19That's what it's all about. He lets me.
- 33:23That's the key in life, right with.
- 33:25That's life, chips. Anything Absolutely.
- 33:30OK, sorry, I forgot I was, you know, interviewing you.
- 33:33I was just like yapping. OK, so you are literally you
- 33:39were talking about we were talking about how two things can
- 33:40be true at one time. Now you I'm so grateful that you
- 33:45have such a great relationship with him though, because
- 33:46obviously you have kids together.
- 33:48That's a really cool thing that that you guys are like that.
- 33:53I mean, it took some time to get to it took some moments, but we
- 33:58our friendship has always remained intact because that's
- 34:00where our basis was. I tell a lot of my friends or
- 34:03even as my clients, you know, make sure and when our
- 34:06relationships, there's a friendship, especially romantic,
- 34:09develop that friendship. Sometimes that's what saves you
- 34:12and sometimes that's what makes the breakup easier.
- 34:15It makes it less so impacting. There's a friendship that lies,
- 34:20that allows us to love each other enough to be like, you
- 34:23know what? I'm excited for you to go off
- 34:26and do your thing. I'm happy for you.
- 34:28There's a friendship. It's not just losing this
- 34:32romantic partner. It's still remaining friends,
- 34:36you know? And that's how we got through
- 34:38it. A lot of prayer, girl, I've been
- 34:40on my knees. Yes, a lot of prayer.
- 34:45It really is the should be the number one thing on your list of
- 34:50resources. Absolutely, absolutely.
- 34:54It is much. Pull it out.
- 34:57It is. I can't believe how much I go to
- 34:59it now. And then I was like, I never did
- 35:01this when I was like in my 20s. And so, I mean, I kind of did,
- 35:04but not really. And I'm like.
- 35:05Not really. Why pray?
- 35:10I just would think about it for hours.
- 35:12I'm like, yeah, that that didn't work.
- 35:15Yeah, it allows you to process the emotions because our
- 35:17emotions aren't bad. It's good to feel them.
- 35:19It's good to let them process. It's just what are you filtering
- 35:23them through that makes it anxiety driven or faith and
- 35:27peace driven? What are you sending those
- 35:30emotions through? Filter them through, through
- 35:33your prayers, through your readings, your scriptures.
- 35:35Filter all the emotions, but do feel all the emotions, you know?
- 35:40It's the one language we all speak.
- 35:42If you were Chinese and I was Arabian, if you laughed, I
- 35:47understand your joy. If you're African and I'm
- 35:51Japanese, I understand your tears.
- 35:54We all speak the same language. When we remember we're all human
- 36:00together, it's an experience. It's almost like, like I said in
- 36:04the previous episode, it's almost like someone designed it
- 36:07that way. God, absolutely.
- 36:16It's a beautiful way to think about it because, yeah, when
- 36:19you're walking on the street in any foreign country, if it's a
- 36:22foreign country to you and you see someone like sobbing, you
- 36:27know that they're set. You don't need to know, no.
- 36:31Reason, but you know and you know you can pray for that
- 36:35sadness. You know you can pray for
- 36:37someone's happiness whether you know that the details are not
- 36:40you can recognize it was intentional for our feelings to
- 36:44come, but filter them properly so you can see yourself.
- 36:49That's the self love. It's seeing where you're a piece
- 36:52of crap right there. You know it's and being OK with
- 36:56it. Don't hold the judgement or hold
- 36:58the guilt, but hold yourself accountable for sure.
- 37:02Totally. I've learned that as like as a
- 37:06Catholic who kind of just fell away and then kind of relearning
- 37:09and like read like the baby Christian toddler.
- 37:12Now year 2, I'll be a teenager soon.
- 37:15It's like dog years, you know, like one year is 7.
- 37:19You know. Like I might even quote a
- 37:22scripture here soon. OK, yes, in there.
- 37:27Yeah. No, but it's, it's I had a point
- 37:30there. It was something, it was like,
- 37:32it was, oh, when you're, when you're like connecting with God,
- 37:38if you're, if you're in the audience right now and let's say
- 37:40you're Christian or you're just, you know, connected to God in
- 37:43whatever way and you're nodding and you're going, yeah, I know
- 37:46what they're talking about. If you're struggling and you're
- 37:48hearing this, what how would you recommend starting to talk to
- 37:56God? If you're kind of like, listen,
- 37:58I don't know much, I'm just in a bad place and I'm willing to try
- 38:02because I heard this podcast and I'm down to try.
- 38:06Yeah, well, you know what? It's exactly what you said.
- 38:09It's go to them as a child of God, as if you're talking to
- 38:14your dad, as if you're talking to that parental like, hey, I
- 38:18don't know what I'm doing. I don't know.
- 38:20Can you just pick me up and hold me in your arms like we do our
- 38:24parents? Can you just sit with me?
- 38:26Can I just lay on your chest and and be I don't know what to say.
- 38:30I don't know how to feel. I'm doing I have a lot just talk
- 38:35as a child of God. That's what the Bible speaks to
- 38:40us as not Aceo, not an influence answer, not mom, even not all
- 38:45the things as a child of God and I read Jonathan McReynolds book,
- 38:50don't don't be afraid to climb any higher.
- 38:52Don't climb any higher. Sorry, I forgot the title, but
- 38:55that's it was one of the things that he was saying was just to
- 38:58be a child of God and I that's what I would recommend to
- 39:00someone that's coming to him. Just be a child like hey dad,
- 39:04I'm here. I probably messed up a lot, but
- 39:08yo, do you love me? I'm here bro.
- 39:12I did the thing you told me not to do.
- 39:14I did it again. I did.
- 39:16It again, our parents love us any less.
- 39:19They teach us, they guide us, they steer us through.
- 39:22But they love us no less. That's God, yeah.
- 39:27And that is a clip. You just said a clip.
- 39:31That is a clip. It always happens.
- 39:33There's always a couple moments where I'm like and clip.
- 39:37You do your job well. You.
- 39:39Know what you just like, because I'm taking it and going.
- 39:42I have that is literally such good advice because some people
- 39:49are like and I know and it's a beautiful that so many people
- 39:51are waking up. It seems like there's like a
- 39:53revival of absolutely, you know, something's going on and I love
- 39:57it. But some people are kind of
- 40:00like, wait, how do I even begin? I don't know any prayers.
- 40:03I don't even know. Like what the Bible is really, I
- 40:06know it's an important book, but like, I don't know anything.
- 40:09Like that's fine. It's fine.
- 40:11He doesn't care what you know now.
- 40:14He doesn't doesn't, he doesn't and you know, I've been in this,
- 40:17it's in Matthew. It's a scripture.
- 40:19Let's just start with scriptures now and and you know it, I'm
- 40:22still wrestling with this scripture.
- 40:25I know I've read it before, but he was it's the moment where
- 40:28Jesus was having dinner. He was having dinner with
- 40:30taxpayers and sinners and he was sitting and the Pharisees are
- 40:32like, why are you here with them?
- 40:34What are what are you doing with these low?
- 40:35He's like, why do I keep finding you here just amongst the
- 40:39Commons? And Jesus said back to them, I
- 40:42want you to go learn when I say I desire mercy, not sacrifice.
- 40:49And I've just been like, whoa, not sacrifice.
- 40:58I want compassion. I want your kindness.
- 41:03I don't want you to necessarily have to always come and repent
- 41:06or, or, or feel bad or feel like you're, you have to give the ox.
- 41:10So you have to cut the it's, I just desire mercy.
- 41:16And that's what we all can give, receive.
- 41:19It's there. It's for the giving.
- 41:21Every day there's mercy. Embrace it.
- 41:25Just embrace it, you know? It's such AI love that passage
- 41:32of the Bible and knowing that Jesus was not too cool for
- 41:36school for anybody, anybody, no one, anybody like it's you could
- 41:43like he's like willing to have a conversation with absolutely
- 41:46anyone. Anyone.
- 41:48Absolutely. He will cast the first stone.
- 41:50Let go ahead. She was a prostitute.
- 41:53She. He knew that.
- 41:54But there's nobody without sin. So if you have no sin, throw a
- 41:58stone right now. There were no stone's throne.
- 42:02He saves us all. All are welcome.
- 42:06It doesn't matter the journey. That's life.
- 42:09That's life is the journey. We've done some crazy, reckless
- 42:12things. And he's like, Yep, come on
- 42:14home. Yeah.
- 42:15He's like you humans are super high maintenance, but it's fine.
- 42:20I created. The paradox of light.
- 42:22The dark, the light, the good, the bad, the Ying, the Yang.
- 42:26It exists, you know. Where's your foundation in that
- 42:31ebb and flow? Yeah, Yeah.
- 42:34Let me ask you this. So if someone's nodding and
- 42:37they're like, OK, I can do that. I can, I'll try that.
- 42:41After that, I listen to this podcast.
- 42:42I'm going to, I'm going to, OK, I'm going to pray and talk to
- 42:46this. I'm going to just start talking
- 42:48and see what happens. But then if they're like, wait,
- 42:51but Dee, how do I know? How do you feel?
- 42:54God, how do you feel or know? Because I love talking to
- 42:58people. So I've met some people who are
- 43:00like I hear God and I'm like oh I haven't heard him but I feel
- 43:03something or I have dreams or I. How do you experience God?
- 43:12You know, I, it's cliche maybe, but I love to sit in the sun.
- 43:19I've the sun draws to me. I, I feel God.
- 43:24It's in those simple things. When I look around and you see
- 43:27the creation of life, just life itself.
- 43:30I'm like, OK, God, now is the time that I can open my heart.
- 43:34I open my everything to you and you feel that good feeling.
- 43:38You feel it in your, your bones. You feel it in your, even when
- 43:42you're releasing to God, when you're having a moment.
- 43:45Lord, I've done this, Lord, I've done that and letting it all go,
- 43:49you'll feel that weight just being relieved.
- 43:53There's no judgement in God. That's what I need the my the
- 43:56viewers to understand. There's no judgement, there's no
- 43:59condemnation. There's nothing that you can say
- 44:02that's going to knock him off his rocker, that's going to make
- 44:04his eyes bulge, that's going to make him even upset.
- 44:09Say the thing. Say the thing that you're
- 44:12holding so tight. I was molested.
- 44:16I was. I was bullied.
- 44:18I didn't know what to do. I judged myself.
- 44:21Say the thing that really makes you afraid of even being big,
- 44:27being bold, allowing yourself to be free.
- 44:30Say that thing to God and you'll feel.
- 44:34You'll feel God join you. You'll feel the Holy Spirit
- 44:37welcome himself into the room. Be honest with God.
- 44:42Yeah. I, I can relate to that.
- 44:45You feel something comes into the room.
- 44:49I'm telling you, like for me, it just happened yesterday when I
- 44:55interviewed another guest and she have to connect you guys cuz
- 44:59she is a publisher and, and, and she, her company's called
- 45:03Redemption Press. Like, like it's a Christian.
- 45:07I'm like, Oh my gosh, I'm like, God, you're like God's like,
- 45:10yeah, I'm gonna keep. I'm like, OK, yeah, OK.
- 45:12I get it. I get it.
- 45:14I get it. I get it.
- 45:15I hear you. I'm like you're, you're showing
- 45:18off now. OK, enough.
- 45:21Like I was just kidding. But she was, she was, gosh, what
- 45:26is she saying? She was Oh my gosh, I don't even
- 45:29know what what my point of that was.
- 45:31What was my point? What was my point?
- 45:33I had a .0 and she was praying. She's like I I was telling her
- 45:39that I feel and again I might sound crazy and that's fine in
- 45:44the last year and I got baptized November like a where?
- 45:48I feel that's beautiful. Yeah, where I was like, all
- 45:51right, baby Christian, I'm real now.
- 45:53Like I'm a pain. My official baby because, yeah,
- 45:57I was like, it was good. It was good.
- 45:59It was really, really exciting. But I feel whenever I pray and I
- 46:03get really connected and when I'm really vulnerable, when I'm
- 46:06like, all right, I'm coming to be vulnerable today, I feel this
- 46:11presence on my left side. Like it's not, I don't hear
- 46:14anything. I don't, it's not like warm.
- 46:17I just feel like you're not feeling when you feel like
- 46:19someone's standing near you. Right.
- 46:23He's on the left side and I'm like, OK, never felt that until
- 46:26the last six months. Oh, you know, that's that's
- 46:31that's how he detailed. He is.
- 46:33He knows that's just for you. That's him sitting.
- 46:35Holy fear just for you. Yeah, never on that.
- 46:39Right. And I'm like sometimes like now
- 46:41when you do. Feel it on the right side.
- 46:42You'll be like. Yeah, I'm like, no, that's,
- 46:46that's something else. I'm.
- 46:47Like, wait a minute. Yes.
- 46:49I know my connection is on my left side.
- 46:52He's so detailed and beautiful in that way.
- 46:54Oh my gosh. Yeah.
- 47:00'Cause there's. A whole, oh goodness, there's so
- 47:02much to talk about, but thank you for answering that.
- 47:06So for for it sounds like you, you're telling people to really
- 47:11be vulnerable. Say the thing, say it out loud.
- 47:14And for me, I feel the same. It's when I'm out, just nature,
- 47:18just sit and kind of get quiet, right?
- 47:20Oh, yeah, I'll go by a window in my house.
- 47:22Wherever the sun, it's just soaking in that, that moment.
- 47:25Just as the sun is shining. God is here.
- 47:29Just as the sun is shining. He can relieve my pain.
- 47:32Just as the sun is shining. I'll be OK.
- 47:35It's a shortness. I use the sun.
- 47:37Maybe someone can use the clouds.
- 47:39Maybe you can use a tree. Just as sure as that thing is
- 47:42there and you can see it and feel it.
- 47:44God can move that mountain for you, pull you off that mountain,
- 47:49bring you back down to the valley and meet you there.
- 47:51Absolutely, Absolutely. That's great.
- 47:56I love the metaphor of I've just been learning about the whole
- 47:59valley in the wilderness thing. I'm like.
- 48:01Yeah, yeah, we're. At something and tell me about
- 48:04how you feel about this that some I think it was Joyce Meyer,
- 48:07somebody I was listening to. There's so many amazing
- 48:09preachers. She was like, don't be afraid
- 48:12when you're in the wilderness or adversity or in the dark time.
- 48:15That's where the work is done actually.
- 48:18Absolutely not a bad. Thing If you're in a dark, tell
- 48:22me what you think about that. It's not bad at all.
- 48:24Like I was mentioning Jonathan McReynolds book.
- 48:26That's one of the things though, that is the basis of what he was
- 48:29talking about is, is de romanticizing this mountain and
- 48:32remembering that the valley is where there's lushness.
- 48:35That's where the greens are, that's where the river is,
- 48:38that's where the animals are. That's where community is in
- 48:41that valley. You get your nourishment to go
- 48:44ahead and climb that mountain, to go ahead and do that big
- 48:47thing. You gain that in the valley.
- 48:50That's where you're just a child of God.
- 48:53You're just to be in the valley. That's not always a bad thing.
- 48:58You know, look at the valley as that's where the richness is.
- 49:02Now I can go scale this mountain to be the best podcaster or
- 49:06entrepreneur. There's only a little bit of
- 49:08thin air up there. You need some nourishment.
- 49:11You need to be full from the valley before you go on that
- 49:15Mount Everest and hurt yourself. Yes, so.
- 49:20It's almost like it's almost like donics.
- 49:23So you're saying too. I'm so I'm so like seeing as
- 49:26you're saying, and I'm like, I'm standing in the valley, like,
- 49:28you know. In.
- 49:30The water and taking my dog for a walk and I'm like, I'm like
- 49:35getting my sleep and then God's like, OK now Bree, remember Dee
- 49:40said you're all nourished. You've been self caring.
- 49:44Yes and now and you did your Bible study.
- 49:47Yes. Now we have some adversity.
- 49:49This mountain, I'm going to need you to climb it.
- 49:51But don't worry, I've told you everything you need.
- 49:53For it, you have it all in your bag.
- 49:55And then if I'm like, I don't want to climb it, he's like,
- 49:57well, you're going to. You're going to do it, you're
- 50:00going to do it, and you're going to be great at it.
- 50:03Trust yourself in the process. Let's do it.
- 50:06It's just moving past that fear, moving, passing that fear, doing
- 50:10it anyway. Doing it when you're not even
- 50:12sure who you're becoming. I know this isn't me anymore.
- 50:16I know I don't recognize my own thoughts anymore, my own
- 50:19feelings anymore. This is not me, but now I'm
- 50:23becoming. And it's the journey you take
- 50:26with God becoming. It's beautiful and scary at the
- 50:30same time. Life is that you're a dox.
- 50:32Yeah. Yes, so you, you as a human are
- 50:37going through that as we all are.
- 50:39And then you what is so amazing is that I love that you have
- 50:43taken your foundation with God growing up.
- 50:47You've taken your military training, you've taken your role
- 50:53as a mother, as a wife as now as like obviously you're single and
- 50:58like next, like, you know, ready for the next like well, you, you
- 51:02love on yourself and then love comes to you that obviously.
- 51:05We know that. Absolutely.
- 51:06I'm attracting in what comes to me.
- 51:08Yeah. I used to think it was
- 51:09backwards. I was like, if someone will love
- 51:11me and then I'm like God's like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 51:14no. No, you are the prize.
- 51:15No, no, honey, he's like, I love you and you love you and then
- 51:18other people love you, but you love you.
- 51:19You love you. So tell me Dee, how did you
- 51:26transition to become a empowerment coach?
- 51:29Part 1 and Part 2? How do you help your clients,
- 51:35like, live their best lives? Yeah, I became an empowerment
- 51:40coach because I was a teacher. I was a school teacher for a
- 51:42while. I was talking 3rd grade.
- 51:44I love teaching, but even prior to that, when I was in Texas, a
- 51:47lot of my girlfriends, those those party moments, those
- 51:49things while the guys are out hanging out drinking, the girls
- 51:52are out like deep. I have this problem.
- 51:54I have this, what do you say? What do you?
- 51:56And I found myself just being that and I would study and I'm
- 52:00like, what am I even studying for?
- 52:01What is happening? You know, like what am I doing?
- 52:04I'm not a therapist. Like what, you know, but I
- 52:08wanted to be there so much for them.
- 52:10It became so special to me. And I just one day was searching
- 52:14and I'm like, you know, an empowerment coach.
- 52:15That's what I, I do that. Well, I wanted to be a drill
- 52:18Sergeant in the Army. And I'm like, well, that's one
- 52:20way to do it. But on this side, yeah.
- 52:23Sergeant. I did.
- 52:26I wanted to do drill so bad. I love it.
- 52:29It's so. That is such a good quality to
- 52:32have in an empowerment coach. Exactly.
- 52:35So that's kind of where it transitions to empowerment
- 52:38coaching. Yeah.
- 52:39You know, we have our lessons, we have our moments.
- 52:42It's a no judgement free zone. I do consultation, whether it's
- 52:45Zoom phone calls, you know, and I keep, I keep tabs on my
- 52:48client. I'm not a therapist where it's
- 52:50just that one session and that's it.
- 52:52No, like we keep constant communication, you know, I'm
- 52:55open. But we do have our lessons.
- 52:57I do hold you accountable. I am checking in.
- 53:00I am doing those things. But there's lessons on self
- 53:03love, there's self trust, there's journaling prompts.
- 53:06You know, there's one where we do seven day where you just
- 53:09write whatever you're feeling in that moment, 30 minutes of your
- 53:12day, you just write. You write it out and as soon as
- 53:15you're done, you burn it. Whatever was on that paper is
- 53:18now gone. You burn it.
- 53:20So you say whatever while filthy things you need to say about
- 53:26whoever, whatever yourself, whatever, write it out, write it
- 53:30out and then you burn it for seven days.
- 53:33It is life changing all the things you let let out and no
- 53:39longer have space. Oh, it's it's exhilarating, I
- 53:43tell you. And you're gonna have to do it
- 53:45with me one of these times I don't need.
- 53:47To finish. So I'm already like it's.
- 53:49Beautiful. I just had a flash on me in the
- 53:50backyard, like, like. But here's what's amazing about
- 53:56that seven days in a row. Seven days in a row.
- 54:00That's and. You burn it.
- 54:02You start some rewiring there you're.
- 54:04Like, oh, you do you see your words change, you start to see
- 54:08the things you yourself change. It's it's empowering the way
- 54:13there's people you might write something from 15 years ago.
- 54:16You know, you're just writing things.
- 54:18I hate that they you let this happen to me.
- 54:20I can't stand that I even it went through this.
- 54:23You just let it out and then you'll find yourself like I can
- 54:26get through anything. I am strong.
- 54:29I am wise. You, you gain this empowerment
- 54:33of yourself. It's beautiful.
- 54:34It's beautiful seven days. I've had some clients that like
- 54:38D I'm still burning. They're like, I'm on day 492 and
- 54:43you're like, are you using recyclable paper or like I
- 54:48think? We're OK.
- 54:51So like I said, 7 but do you need a hug?
- 54:54No, I'm kidding. No, but like we all have like
- 54:57so. Much, so much Spike carrying, so
- 55:00much that we think we suppressed, we think we've
- 55:03healed from and we moved on from.
- 55:04But once you start writing the things that come out, your 7
- 55:08year old self is now writing this page and you're just like,
- 55:10oh, I didn't even remember that. I remembered that.
- 55:13But you don't have time to now read it back, replay it.
- 55:17You burn it and it's done. Done.
- 55:21Yeah. It doesn't even.
- 55:23I mean it. It matters, but but it's also
- 55:27done. It's done.
- 55:29You're seeing it. It's almost like because I've
- 55:31been learning, you got to look at it, right?
- 55:33You have to, you have to feel it.
- 55:35You have to face it. But you don't.
- 55:37Have to like, face it forever and ever.
- 55:40Exactly, exactly. You can let that go.
- 55:43You can let that leave your memory space and you can feel
- 55:46the relief of it. You don't have to hold on to it
- 55:49anymore. It's very bringing.
- 55:52I feel like that's, I feel like God.
- 55:55That's when I feel the God on the left side where I'm like
- 55:57something shit where I'm like I'm.
- 56:00Like that's your Shannon girl. We call that your Shannon.
- 56:03Take that with you. Like, oh, I feel it in my
- 56:05Shannon. I'm gonna give you some good
- 56:09Christian terms. Yes please.
- 56:12I'm a, I'm a, I'm a, I'm a baby toddler.
- 56:14Just like saying my first sight words and stuff.
- 56:18You know. Now I'm like discernment and I'm
- 56:20like the enemy and the wilderness and the valley and
- 56:24I'm like, and then I'll be like, oh, and then I told told some a
- 56:29cash cashier. It's like said something and I'm
- 56:31like, Oh my gosh, I'm really turning into like a God person
- 56:34now. I'm like, Oh my gosh, I'm going
- 56:36to pray over someone soon, like. Go for it.
- 56:39You know, the same power and grace that's had me for 38
- 56:42years. That's the same grace that's
- 56:44within you for two years. His power doesn't change.
- 56:48His power is just as strong in you as it is in me.
- 56:51It's. No different.
- 56:52It's wild once you for anyone listening out there that is like
- 56:56I don't know what they're talking about but sounds
- 56:59interesting and I'm down to try. I swear I don't even know.
- 57:05I'm so different now. Like in the best way.
- 57:09I just love now that's the frequency when love is your
- 57:13frequency, that's when you where you move from love.
- 57:16Everything else makes sense in a way it you just see the world
- 57:22different when you can operate from a safe place of love, but
- 57:25that's being authentic with yourself.
- 57:26That's the self love, and that's where I pray that most viewers
- 57:30get to is realizing you are enough just as you are with your
- 57:35mess, with all your everything. You are enough and you're worth
- 57:39the save. God wants to save you.
- 57:42It makes him happy to save you. You're enough just as you are.
- 57:47Oh my goodness, yeah. Such a good phrase.
- 57:50You are worth the save. You're worth the save.
- 57:52You're. Worth the save because some
- 57:54people would be like, that's amazing that he did that.
- 57:56But I don't think I'm worth that.
- 57:59Exactly. I'm not like I don't like I
- 58:01don't have, I don't, you know, feed the poor and I can't even
- 58:04get out of bed. I'm a piece of shit.
- 58:05Like people would say that, right?
- 58:07Right. And no, you're worth the save.
- 58:10You're worth. He's going to lay right there in
- 58:11that bed with you. He's there with you.
- 58:14Yeah. You're worth it.
- 58:16Yeah. It's incredible because I've
- 58:18been the one that couldn't get out of bed.
- 58:20And then I've been like, hello, how could I pot?
- 58:23Like when you're in that moment, you're like, how could I
- 58:24possibly turn this one around? And then you look 10 years later
- 58:29and you're like, what? Whoa.
- 58:31It's like, you're like what? Whoa, here I am like I didn't
- 58:36see that one come. Like and when I let go, I let go
- 58:39and I was like, fine, I'll go to church groups.
- 58:41Sure sounds good, whatever. And then I'm like, I'd get in
- 58:45there and the worship music would start and I'd start
- 58:47bawling and I'm like, what am I even crying?
- 58:49I don't even know this song. Don't even know these people.
- 58:52Never been here and I'm crying. Don't.
- 58:55Make me scream. I love.
- 58:58It I walk in and I'm like like this.
- 59:03I literally and then like an 80 year old woman comes up and like
- 59:08hugs me and I'm like sure, prey on me.
- 59:11That's fine. You're really nice.
- 59:13The tears. Come even more.
- 59:15Yeah, and then like a 5 year old smiles at me and I'm like
- 59:20everyone's so nice. Like, everyone is so nice if
- 59:25you're in the right place. Some Christian people are some
- 59:28of the nicest. I'm like wow, wow.
- 59:30Absolutely I you know I make that testament to my church
- 59:33here, the rock of Central Florida.
- 59:35Oh, they were my saving grace. Some of the most amazing people
- 59:40from the moment I walked in the door, I.
- 59:43They don't even know you. They love you.
- 59:46They loved me dearly like they saw my spirit more so than the
- 59:49details They knew you need a hug, you need prayer, you need
- 59:54community around you had no idea of what detail and it was a
- 59:58beautiful experience. I still to this.
- 1:00:00They're absolutely near and dear to my heart.
- 1:00:03I shout out to the rock of Central Florida pastor Steve
- 1:00:06Parker. Amazing.
- 1:00:08That's pops. I honestly, I cannot believe the
- 1:00:14feelings that I get that I got when I first walked in to my
- 1:00:18first couple and then walked into this women's retreat and I
- 1:00:21was like, who are these people and why this room?
- 1:00:25I, I, I, I, I promise you. I used to think that sounded
- 1:00:29nuts, but I'm like, there's something in this room and I
- 1:00:32just walked in. And you can feel it as you.
- 1:00:35Feel. Something.
- 1:00:36There's something there that's the holy.
- 1:00:38Spirit. That's that's how I where I'm
- 1:00:40like, OK, Yep. Yes, you have entered the
- 1:00:44presence of the Holy Spirit, and you can feel Him and.
- 1:00:47It doesn't stop like it doesn't once you start, it's like a
- 1:00:49daily. It doesn't like go away.
- 1:00:51You don't get only like 10 feelings.
- 1:00:54You get like 10 always. You get it more and more
- 1:00:56actually. Absolutely.
- 1:00:58It's the most beautiful thing. And it also can feel a lot.
- 1:01:02It can feel like, oh, OK, OK, enough.
- 1:01:06I see it. I get it.
- 1:01:07I'm overwhelmed with this greatness, this goodness, this
- 1:01:11oil that you know, like God, you are so much bigger than I really
- 1:01:16can fathom. You have those moments, you
- 1:01:19know, and it's beautiful. That power is in you.
- 1:01:23Well, and I think it's great that like coaches like you,
- 1:01:26communities like yours, and I'm sure like just, I was looking at
- 1:01:32all of the things you've done and the events and the causes
- 1:01:36you partner with. And it's like you bring that
- 1:01:40spirit. I think with you, you just kind
- 1:01:43of like you really do. That's why I was like when you
- 1:01:46commented and then I was like, I have to have another show right
- 1:01:50now. It's next.
- 1:01:52Like I just, I feel like I'm just like, your energy is so, so
- 1:01:57good and so like nourishing. You know, it really is.
- 1:02:01I'm sure you've been told that 100 times.
- 1:02:03I mean, yeah, baby, this oil comes with the cross.
- 1:02:08It comes with those crying days. It comes with stretching out to
- 1:02:11Jesus days. You don't know the cost of this
- 1:02:15oil. You know, it comes with the
- 1:02:18price, but that's. Where you get the great point.
- 1:02:21You know, yeah. It's a great point.
- 1:02:22I will say I was. I was crying out of happiness
- 1:02:25this morning at the kitchen table.
- 1:02:27I was like, I was over my coffee, ask my husband if I
- 1:02:32pulled him in right now, he'd be coming in and be like, yeah, she
- 1:02:35did, can I go now? I I was like, I'm just really
- 1:02:38happy and I'm not, I'm not like. And then I was like, I'm
- 1:02:42probably also PM messing, but it's also real.
- 1:02:45Like I was like, it's probably a little bit of that, but yeah,
- 1:02:49but it's just I get overwhelmed with emotion.
- 1:02:52And then sometimes, sometimes I'll be at the gym and then you
- 1:02:55get this like attack of like, what are you doing this podcast?
- 1:03:00Who do you think you are? And I'm like, where does that
- 1:03:02come from? Like I'm, what do you think
- 1:03:05you're annoying? Like you talked and I'm like,
- 1:03:07yeah, should I stop? And then I'm like, yeah, I am
- 1:03:12annoying. And then I'm like, whoa, no, no,
- 1:03:13no, no. That's a lie.
- 1:03:14I've been told that's a lie. That's not true.
- 1:03:17It's not true. You know how to yeah, you that's
- 1:03:19going to come. The enemy is going to come and
- 1:03:22try and stir those emotions within us when we're becoming
- 1:03:25new, even just in day-to-day like, oh, I'm still not good
- 1:03:28enough. I'm still not this, I'm not that
- 1:03:30or I'm too tired to do. No, you have to fight those
- 1:03:34battles. It's it's one of the things I
- 1:03:36call catch a thought catch that thought and send it right back
- 1:03:41away. I see you trying to hook into
- 1:03:44me. If you let it hook now, it
- 1:03:47allows room for all those others catch thought throw it away.
- 1:03:52I'm good. You know that's those
- 1:03:55affirmations. Have a positive affirmation
- 1:03:57within you where you I I'm centered, I am enough, I am
- 1:04:01strong, I am powerful. God help me, whatever it is,
- 1:04:04have those readily affirmations to knock off those thoughts.
- 1:04:09Don't let them hook in. No, no, no.
- 1:04:11Such a good point. Don't try.
- 1:04:13And I'm so glad you brought that up because even though like
- 1:04:17you're an empowerment coach, I'm podcast like we do this.
- 1:04:21Like there's some days where I'm looking in the mirror going, I'm
- 1:04:25a podcaster university, you're positive.
- 1:04:32And my hair is like a mess. And I'm like.
- 1:04:35I am a mess. And then I'm like, I hate myself
- 1:04:38right now, but I'm gonna, I'm, I'm diversity, yes.
- 1:04:43But then I'm like, it's OK. I don't have to be this.
- 1:04:47Your emotions go up and down. And like, you don't have to be
- 1:04:49anyone. We're all just human.
- 1:04:51And then we like, you're not. Expected not feel OK.
- 1:04:54It's quite not feel like poop right now and that's OK.
- 1:05:00Yeah, you. Know there's that moment if you
- 1:05:02have that moment where you just need to go sit on the sofa and
- 1:05:05have a blanket in a Hallmark day and.
- 1:05:07Cry. Hey, yes.
- 1:05:09Ugly cry. It happens.
- 1:05:13It's when you try to fight that and try to go against it and oh,
- 1:05:16I'm, I have to be strong. I have to be.
- 1:05:18That's where you have anxiety now.
- 1:05:20That's where you have those battles within yourself.
- 1:05:23Just let yourself be not OK. Yeah, you know.
- 1:05:27It'll pass. It'll pass.
- 1:05:29Quicker and. Lean into it quicker.
- 1:05:31Absolutely. That's it.
- 1:05:33Lean into it, go through it and move right on past it.
- 1:05:37Yeah, you might. Steal your way, you may as well
- 1:05:39just get it over with. Lean into it and then you might
- 1:05:45be watching a movie and you hear someone say something and that's
- 1:05:48the thing that now you're up in your attic.
- 1:05:51It's just lean into it. You can hear yourself when you
- 1:05:56honor yourself, yeah. It's a beautiful thing.
- 1:06:00And then you start, you know what?
- 1:06:01I'm at the phase where I'm like now that I'm starting to really
- 1:06:05love myself, I'm like, Oh my gosh, I was so mean before.
- 1:06:11And I'm like, oh, I'm almost like.
- 1:06:15You. Like how are you not?
- 1:06:17How are you alive? How did you survive?
- 1:06:21How did you knock? Oh my goodness, yeah.
- 1:06:23Talk was nasty. Terrible.
- 1:06:26I was that person. I was so crude.
- 1:06:29I was so crude, so full of myself, so controlling and when
- 1:06:33I move past it, I'm like, Oh my gosh, I probably would have
- 1:06:37punched me in the throat. It's facing yourself in that way
- 1:06:42you know and the. Shadows.
- 1:06:45Yes, yes, doing that shadow work, you know, it makes it all
- 1:06:51so real. The self love is so much more
- 1:06:53full, yes. I feel like once and if people
- 1:06:58are like what is shadow work like they can come work with you
- 1:07:01and you can tell them about it. It's basically like facing the
- 1:07:05dark stuff that you really. I remember 1 therapist was like,
- 1:07:10she was like, yeah, I want you to write down about your shadow.
- 1:07:11And she's like, write down like the stuff you really don't like
- 1:07:15about your like you're just like.
- 1:07:17And I'm like, oh, that's awful. It makes you stomach.
- 1:07:21Yeah. And then once you do it about
- 1:07:23yourself, you're like, wow, I'm not going to be juggy about
- 1:07:26everybody else either. I've done all of that.
- 1:07:31I would send some grace, absolutely.
- 1:07:34Your grace really develops when you face yourself.
- 1:07:37Like sorry, I can extend grace way easily because you're
- 1:07:43absolutely. Said that I did that you lost.
- 1:07:47Me. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:49What does God say? Right.
- 1:07:50In my Bible study on Tuesday, I was like laughing.
- 1:07:52I'm like, oh, when they said it, I was like, no, because we all
- 1:07:56like laugh. And we're very like vocal Bible
- 1:07:58study where we'll be like, oh, I don't like that one, no.
- 1:08:01But they're like you. Know if you don't forgive you
- 1:08:04can't be forgiven and I was like but like no that one thing I'm
- 1:08:07just not gonna just that one person though, right I cannot
- 1:08:11how about everybody else but that one because I'll.
- 1:08:14Pull them out of the shadow of your heart.
- 1:08:17I have to do all of them, huh? Because otherwise I can't get
- 1:08:20any forgiveness. Otherwise.
- 1:08:21It's quite arrogant actually. Wow.
- 1:08:25Even though it's really bad. Oh, quite realizing things right
- 1:08:29now. Yes, forgive them for they know
- 1:08:33not what they do. They, they don't, you know, even
- 1:08:36when they think they do or we think they do, sometimes they
- 1:08:40don't know what's driving them to be so.
- 1:08:42Ugly and it's also if if the Bible if you believe the Bible,
- 1:08:46it's actually in some cases something else actually
- 1:08:49overtake. You absolutely, absolutely.
- 1:08:52People will. Well, we walk around people that
- 1:08:55are possessed in demons every day, all day.
- 1:08:57You better have some coverage over you.
- 1:08:59Protection of prayer. Cover yourself.
- 1:09:02There are entities in darkness right amongst us.
- 1:09:06It's true, and I really didn't growing up Catholic.
- 1:09:10I don't think I knew that. And now I'm like, this is real.
- 1:09:16And since now this is real, this changes how I move through every
- 1:09:19moment of my life. That's beautiful.
- 1:09:23That's beautiful. But like.
- 1:09:26It's crazy. It's very, it's very real.
- 1:09:29It's very real. And so like all the things
- 1:09:31you're talking about, the self love, the affirmations, the
- 1:09:36discipline, the coaching, that it's all in an effort to guard
- 1:09:40against that Exactly. Really, that's what it is.
- 1:09:45That's what it is. It's a spiritual warfare that it
- 1:09:48is, with self and the world around us.
- 1:09:51Absolutely. And some it the battle here and
- 1:09:55then the battle. Oh.
- 1:09:55Yes, here, out there, yes, my heart can in my mind sometimes
- 1:10:00aren't always on the same frequency.
- 1:10:02When you balance it with God at the center, now you can become
- 1:10:09Yeah. And what is it?
- 1:10:10And again, I'm learning, but when you say you're yoked,
- 1:10:14right? Yoked with God, equally yoked.
- 1:10:16Yes. And isn't that like back in the
- 1:10:19agricultural days, like when you would be like?
- 1:10:22With the oxen, have those on there, yeah, They had to be
- 1:10:25equally yoked so they can plow this field the right way, be
- 1:10:28equally yoked, Absolutely, yeah. Where did you go, girl?
- 1:10:33I know. I'm like, it makes so much sense
- 1:10:36because then everything you do, you're just governed by like,
- 1:10:39you're moving in the right. I mean, it's just the Bible and
- 1:10:41all these analogies. I'm like, yeah, he's like,
- 1:10:44because you humans are goofy and I need to make it.
- 1:10:46Really. I need to tell you exactly
- 1:10:48because you're, you're so arrogant, right?
- 1:10:52Oh well, because there's in this possibility.
- 1:10:55Isn't that the beauty of free will?
- 1:10:56There's possibility. Of that that.
- 1:10:58Can be endless that's life is in this possibility I need to have
- 1:11:03some anchor to hone in on, to hold to or else there's so many
- 1:11:09possibilities, there's so much that.
- 1:11:11It's too much. It's too much, yeah.
- 1:11:14Too much. It's like, I mean, it's too
- 1:11:17much. Oh, I love it.
- 1:11:20I mean, I'm, I'm a lot. I'm a lot.
- 1:11:22My husband is calm. I'm a lot.
- 1:11:24But you know as it should be 1 of you have to be.
- 1:11:26You know, listen, OK, Dee, I hope I haven't talked more than
- 1:11:31you in this, but I don't think this is going to be the first
- 1:11:35time we're talking, so I'm not worried about it.
- 1:11:38Absolutely not. It's just the beginning.
- 1:11:41Can I, can I ask you to leave our, our lovely viewers and
- 1:11:47listeners with anything that is on your heart, that is that you
- 1:11:52like to tell your clients that you like to tell all the people
- 1:11:55who come to you for for coaching about adversity or anything.
- 1:12:01You just want to wrap it up with that you're thinking about how?
- 1:12:07Will I wrap it up well with you and I talking and and just the
- 1:12:10feeling that I feel now is is to remember that you're a child of
- 1:12:15God and wherever you are in that journey, wherever you are in
- 1:12:18life, you're worth the save you're worth them coming to you
- 1:12:23are enough just as you are with all the things that you think
- 1:12:28are heavy and are too much. God can handle it all.
- 1:12:31He wants it all. All of you don't.
- 1:12:35He's so afraid and so like. He's a human.
- 1:12:38He's much, much more than us humans.
- 1:12:40He can carry the weight, put it at his feet.
- 1:12:44Let him have it. Go in the valley.
- 1:12:47Embrace your nourishment of who you are.
- 1:12:50The world needs you. The viewers specific each and
- 1:12:55everyone of you. We need you.
- 1:12:57I can't be you. She can't be you.
- 1:13:00Only you can be you. So you needed all those lessons.
- 1:13:03You needed all those things to make you.
- 1:13:05You go son, right? Go live grand.
- 1:13:10And if you need me, I'm here. And I love you guys to pieces.
- 1:13:15And I love everything you just said, and I love that we that
- 1:13:22God has brought you to my show somehow.
- 1:13:26Thank you. Thank you God.

- 1:13:32journey. I I pray you continue to be
- 1:13:35exactly who you are. Yes, you may have just started,
- 1:13:38but your power, your conviction, your confidence is strong.
- 1:13:42I feel it. I think you're amazing.
- 1:13:45You're going to do great, but God and you shines.
- 1:13:48You're a cathedral, yeah. No, I'm just gonna go have the
- 1:13:53best night ever now, yeah. I'm so glad I was on you're.
