- 0:00Hey y'all, it's friendly. Welcome back to In the
- 0:03Stillness. Happy Thursday.
- 0:05We are almost at the end of another week.
- 0:08So crazy that tomorrow is literally May 1st, but I'm so
- 0:13glad that y'all are joining me on today's podcast episode.
- 0:16And today we are gonna be continuing in our conversation
- 0:20about God being love. And we're going even deeper
- 0:24because I think this is not something we just hear all at
- 0:28once and fully understand. We honestly will never fully
- 0:32grasp it. It's something that we have to
- 0:35grow into layer by layer, and I think a lot of us know about
- 0:41God's love, but it can be easy to drift from fully living in
- 0:46it. We can get into checking the
- 0:49boxes, doing the right Christian things, simply staying
- 0:53disciplined. But The thing is, if it is not
- 0:57all rooted in love, it's gonna feel empty.
- 1:01So this morning we're gonna slow down and let this truth really
- 1:05hit. God did not just say that He
- 1:08loves you. He made it visible through the
- 1:11person of Jesus. So let's go ahead and read first
- 1:14John chapter 4, verses 9 to 10. The light of God's love shined
- 1:22within us when He sent his matchless Son into the world so
- 1:26that we might live through him. This is love.
- 1:31He loved us long before we loved Him.
- 1:34It was His love, not ours. He proved it by sending His Son
- 1:40to be the pleasing sacrificial offering to take away our sins.
- 1:46OK, even in just two verses there is so much here.
- 1:51Right off the bat, we see, it says so that we might live
- 1:55through Him. So that communicates.
- 1:59Your life is not sustained by your own effort, by your own
- 2:03strength. It's not based on how well you
- 2:07perform, how disciplined you are, or how perfectly you follow
- 2:11through. You were never meant to carry
- 2:14your life on your own. You were meant to live through
- 2:17Jesus. And I loved this.
- 2:20In the commentary it said something about the Aramaic
- 2:23translation and it says that we might live in His hand.
- 2:28So you are held. That means you are not climbing
- 2:32your way up to God. You're not trying to reach the
- 2:36top of the corporate ladder like in a job, not trying to prove
- 2:40that you're worthy enough, but you're actually being carried
- 2:43and sustained and kept by Him. Isaiah 46 four says I've made
- 2:49you and I will carry you, I will sustain you and I will rescue
- 2:54you. So there is no ladder to climb
- 2:56here because God came down to you.
- 3:00And I believe when that clicks, it shifts everything because if
- 3:07God is love, then knowing God means knowing love and not just
- 3:13knowing about it, but actually embodying it.
- 3:17That's why in Ephesians 3 verses 17 to 19, it talks all about
- 3:22being rooted and established in love, actually grasping how
- 3:27wide, how long, how high, how deep God's love is for you.
- 3:34First Corinthians 13 verse one also says even if we do all the
- 3:38right things, but do it without love, it means nothing.
- 3:43It's only noise. So this is not just extra, this
- 3:48concept is everything. And God did not just define love
- 3:54with a feeling, he defined it with action.
- 3:57This goes back to what we were talking about in yesterday's
- 4:00podcast episode. God sent his only son and y'all
- 4:06may have heard the phrase only begotten son.
- 4:09And it's actually deeper than it just sounds because Jesus was
- 4:13not created in that moment. He has always been eternal and
- 4:19one with the Father. So this was not just a gift from
- 4:23the Lord, it was a cost, a real painful and sacrificial cost.
- 4:30Jesus knew exactly what He was walking into.
- 4:34Hebrews 12 verse 2 says for the joy set before him, He endured
- 4:39the cross. He persevered it not because it
- 4:43was easy, not because it felt good in any way, but because you
- 4:48were on the other side of it, because love was the driving
- 4:52force. And one of my favorite songs is
- 4:56Consider Him by Abby Gamboa in Upper Room.
- 4:59And I just love how this song puts it.
- 5:02It says for the joy set before him.
- 5:05He endured the cross knowing from the beginning it would be
- 5:09worth the cost. And then later on, in another
- 5:13stanza of the song, it shifts. It says for the joy set before
- 5:17us, we will lay aside every weight to behold our prize.
- 5:24So what he did in love now becomes how we live.
- 5:30Love is not just something that we feel, it's something that we
- 5:34choose, that we walk out even when it costs us something.
- 5:40So I just want to ask you this honestly.
- 5:43Reflect on it, you and God, What is actually motivating your life
- 5:48right now? When things feel hard or slow,
- 5:52there's uncertainty. What are you looking towards to
- 5:56keep going? Is it the next relationship or
- 6:01the next job breakthrough? A perfect body?
- 6:05A perfect routine? The life that finally looks put
- 6:08together? Because the truth is, those
- 6:13things will never be enough. Y'all.
- 6:16I have chased that before. I have tried to climb the ladder
- 6:20and maybe you have to. You keep thinking, OK, once I
- 6:23get to the next thing, I will feel secure or I'll feel
- 6:27satisfied with myself. But then when you get there, it
- 6:31still doesn't feel what you thought it would.
- 6:35Because the bottom line is that anything outside of Jesus is
- 6:39fleeting and it will fail you. There is only one place where
- 6:44your soul can actually rest. So just as the song says, just
- 6:49as scripture preaches, fix your eyes on Jesus.
- 6:53Not the next best thing, but the one best thing, Jesus Christ.
- 6:59And this is where God completely redefines our version of love
- 7:03that we see in the world. Because while this world says
- 7:07that love is quick, it's easy, it's self focused and based on
- 7:12feeling, God shows us that love is the reason He created you.
- 7:18It is the reason He cares for you in your sinful, broken
- 7:22nature. It's the reason He gives you the
- 7:25choice to respond to Him free will.
- 7:28It is the reason Jesus died for you and it is the reason that
- 7:32you're offered eternal life. Love started with God.
- 7:39The Aramaic translation is also cool for this.
- 7:41It says this is how love was born.
- 7:45So love is not something that you have to go search for.
- 7:49It is not a competition and it's not a chase.
- 7:53It has already been revealed and made known in the person of
- 7:56Jesus. It's freely available right here
- 8:01in this instant, right now. And you are never too far gone
- 8:05for it. You never were.
- 8:08God invited you in and sent Jesus to die for you at your
- 8:13very worst. It said that it was God's love,
- 8:16not ours. So He's not going to turn around
- 8:20and reject you now. He is not looking for your
- 8:24perfection. He is simply looking for a
- 8:27willing heart. So just sit with this for a
- 8:31second. Are you truly living like you're
- 8:35already loved, or like you still have something to prove?
- 8:39Which one is it? Because you do not have to chase
- 8:43love. You don't have to earn it.
- 8:46You don't have to climb your way into it.
- 8:49You've already been welcomed into it fully, freely, and
- 8:54forever. And when that really sinks in,
- 8:59it does change how you live. It does change how you love.
- 9:04It ultimately changes everything in your life.
- 9:08So I want to leave it at that for today.
- 9:10Let's go ahead and closeout in prayer.
- 9:16Dear Jesus, thank you for showing us what love really is
- 9:24through the way that you gave yourself for us so freely, so
- 9:30willingly obedient to Your Father's will.
- 9:34I pray that we would not just understand, but that we would
- 9:39actually live from it. Break any mindset in us that
- 9:45feels like we have to strive or to prove ourselves to gain that
- 9:49love. Would you remind us that we are
- 9:52already fully known and fully loved in you?
- 9:57Would you fixate our eyes on your face?
- 10:00Jesus, may our gaze look up to you above everything else.
- 10:06Would you educate us in how we can love like you, how we can
- 10:10treat others the way that you treat others?
- 10:13God, may we love sacrificially and love with grace, with truth,
- 10:22and pursue you wholeheartedly. I pray that we wouldn't just
- 10:26love to receive something in return, but that we would love
- 10:30out of the kindness and compassion of our hearts.
- 10:33Only by you, Jesus, would you increase in us so that we might
- 10:37decrease. We pray this in your holy
- 10:41precious name, Jesus. Amen.
- 10:45OK y'all. Well, that's today's podcast
- 10:47episode. Praying that you can take some
- 10:50things away and just bask in the Lord's love today.
- 10:53It's not something that you have to earn or deserve.
- 10:57We could never deserve it. It's something that is freely
- 11:01offered. And so take advantage of it
- 11:03today. Enjoy the rest of your Thursday
- 11:06and I will see y'all on Friday's episode.
