- 1:05Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that he has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if

- 1:16Speaker 1: program anytime online at Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now
- 1:21Speaker 1: here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Then, Jesus said to his disciples, if anyone wants to
- 1:29Speaker 2: come with me, he must deny himself, take up his cross,
- 1:34Speaker 2: and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life
- 1:38Speaker 2: will lose it, But whoever loses his life because of
- 1:42Speaker 2: Me will find it. Matthew Chapter sixteen and Versus twenty
- 1:48Speaker 2: four and twenty five. Because this is the question. The
- 1:57Speaker 2: hindrance of the fullness of the Holy Spirit in our
- 2:02Speaker 2: lives is usually rooted in our lack of understanding of
- 2:09Speaker 2: the cross. You see, believer, we are taught that Jesus
- 2:18Speaker 2: came as a man, and he lived a sinless life.
- 2:25Speaker 2: But as a man, he took upon himself the sins
- 2:31Speaker 2: of all mankind and bore that sin on the brutal
- 2:39Speaker 2: crucifixion cross on Calvert. We look at that event and
- 2:46Speaker 2: we recognize how horrible that death had to have been.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And yet we see that in so many ways they
- 2:59Speaker 2: identifying of the cross in each of us is of
- 3:05Speaker 2: little meaning. Why am I stressing this point because of
- 3:11Speaker 2: what Jesus said. He stated that if we save our
- 3:18Speaker 2: own life, we will lose it, But if we lose
- 3:23Speaker 2: our life to be full of him, we will find it.
- 3:28Speaker 2: How do we accomplish a greater revelation of the cross? Well,
- 3:37Speaker 2: I want to give you some insight, because if we
- 3:41Speaker 2: look into the background of this particular scripture, it is
- 3:48Speaker 2: just before in the phrase that was given, where Peter,
- 3:56Speaker 2: who later became one of the empowered spokesmen and demonstrators
- 4:06Speaker 2: of the gospel. Peter was with Jesus along with the
- 4:13Speaker 2: other eleven followers that he had selected, and Jesus had
- 4:20Speaker 2: poured his life into them previously. In the same chapter,
- 4:28Speaker 2: they came to him and they talked to him about
- 4:34Speaker 2: how they were going to be taken care of, and
- 4:39Speaker 2: Jesus actually made a statement. He said, beware of the yeas,
- 4:48Speaker 2: or in some versions it's referred to as the eleven
- 4:52Speaker 2: of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. Why did he say this, Well,
- 5:00Speaker 2: he was telling them that they needed to understand that
- 5:07Speaker 2: he was speaking of not the bread in itself, but
- 5:14Speaker 2: what causes the bread to rise. In other words, what
- 5:19Speaker 2: is the spiritual counterpart to the yeast. One of the
- 5:25Speaker 2: things is pride. We want to be recognized and we
- 5:33Speaker 2: want to be acknowledged, and so pride exists in our life.
- 5:40Speaker 2: And what happens when we deal with pride? Well, I
- 5:46Speaker 2: offered this as a means of understanding where we are
- 5:51Speaker 2: in that particular scripture. I want to back up for
- 5:54Speaker 2: just a moment. And after Jesus had said watch out
- 5:59Speaker 2: and beware the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees, they
- 6:03Speaker 2: discussed among themselves, these are the followers. We didn't bring
- 6:07Speaker 2: any bread, And aware of this, Jesus said, you of
- 6:12Speaker 2: little faith, why are you discussing among yourselves that you
- 6:17Speaker 2: do not have bread. Don't you understand yet? Don't you
- 6:21Speaker 2: remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how
- 6:25Speaker 2: many baskets you collected, or the seven loaves for the
- 6:29Speaker 2: four thousand and how many large baskets you collected. Why
- 6:34Speaker 2: is it you don't understand that when I told you
- 6:38Speaker 2: beware of the yeast or the leaven of the Pharisees
- 6:41Speaker 2: and Sadducees, it wasn't about bread. Then they understood that
- 6:48Speaker 2: he did not tell them to beware of the yeast
- 6:53Speaker 2: or leaven in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees. Andy. Now,
- 7:02Speaker 2: when Jesus came to the region of Cesarea Philippi, he
- 7:08Speaker 2: asked his disciples, this is his question to his followers,
- 7:14Speaker 2: who do people say that the son of Man is?
- 7:21Speaker 2: This was Jesus's own identity that he used constantly for himself,
- 7:28Speaker 2: the son of Man. And they said, some say John
- 7:34Speaker 2: the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah are one of
- 7:41Speaker 2: the prophets. But you, he asked them directly, who do
- 7:47Speaker 2: you say that I am? And Simon Peter answered, you
- 7:51Speaker 2: are the Messiah, the son of the Living God. Jesus responded, Simon,
- 7:59Speaker 2: son of Joan, you are blessed because bless and blood
- 8:04Speaker 2: did not reveal this to you, but my Father in Heaven,
- 8:09Speaker 2: and I also say to you that you are Peter,
- 8:14Speaker 2: and on this rock I will build my church, and
- 8:18Speaker 2: the forces of Hades will not overpower it. I will
- 8:23Speaker 2: give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. And
- 8:26Speaker 2: whatever you bind on earth is already bound in heaven.
- 8:30Speaker 2: And whatever you loose on earth is already loose in Heaven.
- 8:35Speaker 2: He gave his disciples orders to tell no one that
- 8:39Speaker 2: he was the Messiah. Now, from that time on, they
- 8:47Speaker 2: continued to walk with him, and they had to go
- 8:53Speaker 2: with him into Jerusalem. And Jesus had told them that
- 8:59Speaker 2: he was going to suffer many things from the elders,
- 9:03Speaker 2: the chief priest, and the scribes, that he would be
- 9:06Speaker 2: killed and be raised the third day. Then Peter, the
- 9:12Speaker 2: same one who recognized him and climed that he was
- 9:19Speaker 2: the Messiah. Then Peter took him aside and began to
- 9:24Speaker 2: rebuke him. Oh, no, Lord, this will never happen to you.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Now listen to this verse. But he Jesus turned and
- 9:38Speaker 2: told Peter, get behind me. Satan. You are an offense
- 9:46Speaker 2: to me because you're not thinking about God's concerns but man's.
- 9:54Speaker 2: This is where he explained that not only was he
- 10:00Speaker 2: going to die on a cruel cross, but that many
- 10:06Speaker 2: of his followers would experience the same type of death. Now,
- 10:14Speaker 2: this scripture mentions two things. First, it mentions that Jesus
- 10:23Speaker 2: recognized who he was, but he wanted his disciples to
- 10:32Speaker 2: recognize him for what he did. And so he continued
- 10:40Speaker 2: to teach them and demonstrated the power of God because
- 10:45Speaker 2: he was totally submitted to the Holy Spirit. And yet
- 10:50Speaker 2: he proclaimed to them that we, as his followers, must
- 10:57Speaker 2: take up our own cross. We must deny ourselves to
- 11:03Speaker 2: follow him. If we want to save our own life,
- 11:08Speaker 2: ultimately we will lose it. But if we choose to
- 11:14Speaker 2: lose our life for him, we will truly find it.
- 11:22Speaker 2: This is a hard teaching believers. This is the hindrance
- 11:29Speaker 2: to the reception of the fullness of God. Do you
- 11:35Speaker 2: want to have the fullness of God? Do you want
- 11:41Speaker 2: truly to be one who demonstrates his power upon his
- 11:47Speaker 2: wish and will at the time and the place that
- 11:53Speaker 2: he selects. Do you want to be used of him
- 11:58Speaker 2: in order that he may receive glory? The answer to
- 12:03Speaker 2: this is individually pronounced. We must each answer for ourselves.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Now we're not talking about salvation. We're not talking about
- 12:18Speaker 2: believing in Jesus as a messiah, although believing in Jesus
- 12:24Speaker 2: as a Messiah is certainly the beginning steps. But yet
- 12:30Speaker 2: to continue with him, we must die. How do we die?
- 12:39Speaker 2: We're living vessels. We are submitting ourselves as those vessels
- 12:46Speaker 2: that will house the Holy Spirit. How do we die?
- 12:53Speaker 2: We die by taking up our cross. We do that
- 12:59Speaker 2: simbolically today, by putting to death those things that are
- 13:07Speaker 2: in our own self image, the pride, the self exaltation,
- 13:16Speaker 2: the means of being able to boast. Those things are
- 13:21Speaker 2: contrary to the function and fullness of the power of God.
- 13:28Speaker 2: If Jesus submitted himself not only to become a man
- 13:34Speaker 2: and to live a life under the full direction of
- 13:40Speaker 2: the Holy Spirit, to perform only those things that the
- 13:45Speaker 2: Father performed, he is our means of dying. We must
- 13:53Speaker 2: die to self in order to be raised in power
- 13:59Speaker 2: with him. Richard will be right back in a moment
- 14:03Speaker 2: to wrap up.
- 14:04Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us, you've been listening to

- 14:45Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Do you want the fullness of the Holy Spirit, the
- 14:56Speaker 2: fullness of God functioning in your life, then you believer?
- 15:03Speaker 2: And I must crucify this spleshly body. It must be
- 15:12Speaker 2: accomplished by putting to death all of those things of self.
- 15:20Speaker 2: We need to understand that there is only one way
- 15:26Speaker 2: that we can become fully alive in Him, and that
- 15:32Speaker 2: is to become fully dead to ourselves. It is not
- 15:39Speaker 2: easy to become dead, but it is possible, not only possible,
- 15:48Speaker 2: but certainly probable. Jesus said all things are possible to
- 15:56Speaker 2: them that believe. Do you believe. If you believe that
- 16:02Speaker 2: Jesus has the power to raise you from the dead,
- 16:07Speaker 2: then you have the same ability to crucify yourself. Many
- 16:16Speaker 2: have fought this throughout their entire lives, and they've dealt
- 16:22Speaker 2: with the selfish ambitions, the things that drive us in
- 16:27Speaker 2: this world to the extent that we have forfeited the
- 16:33Speaker 2: power of God to glorify him. Is that your situation,
- 16:41Speaker 2: then remember what Jesus said, if anyone wants to come
- 16:48Speaker 2: with me, he must deny himself, take up his cross,
- 16:54Speaker 2: and follow me. And that is today's Reflection on the Word.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 17:06Speaker 1: with the next edition of Reflections on the Word with
- 17:09Speaker 1: Richard Kay for Richard Retired Team. This is Chuck Christie
- 17:12Speaker 1: saying thanks for listening to this edition of Reflections on
- 17:16Speaker 1: the Word.
