- 0:00Speaker 1: Now from the Star Runners Sports Tests Jordan ninety three
- 0:03Speaker 1: point three KJRFMS Sports Headlines.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Good Morning, Happy Wednesday, to you have.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Headlines are brought to you by Frost Brewed Coors Light
- 0:11Speaker 1: Choose Chill Manors did something last night I hadn't done
- 0:14Speaker 1: four years. They scored eight runs without any of them
- 0:17Speaker 1: come from a home run.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Never happens.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Eight three went over the Angels, thirteen hits, three of
- 0:22Speaker 1: them by Julia Rodriguez, his team best twenty fifth multi
- 0:25Speaker 1: hit game of the season. He's now got a seven
- 0:27Speaker 1: game hitting streak. Three hits for cold Emerson had been
- 0:29Speaker 1: struggling all June, two hits each by Josh Nale and
- 0:32Speaker 1: Randy A Rose Arena if you count that, generously scored
- 0:35Speaker 1: double out of the left fiters gleven the seventh inning.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Those games only.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Extra base at Brian Wu's head a Mariner's pitching record
- 0:40Speaker 1: by throwing his thirty second consecutive scoreless inning at home.
- 0:45Speaker 1: He ended the seventh inning, and that streak ended in
- 0:48Speaker 1: the seventh inning when he gave up a run departed
- 0:50Speaker 1: with two men on. The Ems win the series over
- 0:53Speaker 1: the Angel's day off today for the World Cup, and
- 0:55Speaker 1: then tomorrow the series finale against the Angels at the
- 0:57Speaker 1: Yard and Soto. Wait till I tell you late how
- 1:00Speaker 1: the Rangers won their sixth straight game. Theirmain a half
- 1:02Speaker 1: game up over the A's in first place in the
- 1:04Speaker 1: Division Domino Canzone. Luke rarely still harding both with the
- 1:07Speaker 1: start of last night against Angels right hander Luis Soriano.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Weston Wilson had to start in right field bad at
- 1:13Speaker 1: ninth only his fourth Mariner game all season, so of
- 1:15Speaker 1: course he had a two run single made it five
- 1:17Speaker 1: nothing Maraors in the sixth. Like I said, a very
- 1:20Speaker 1: un Mariners like win World Cup. Eight runs, eight runs,
- 1:24Speaker 1: no runs, eight runs, that's right, fourteen runs and two
- 1:28Speaker 1: that's a week's worth.
- 1:29Speaker 2: That's a two week's worth of the Mariners. That's right, Joe.
- 1:32Speaker 3: I'm loving it.
- 1:34Speaker 1: What the difference the Angels make World Cup. The entire
- 1:37Speaker 1: globe right now is watching upstart Congo, noticing their leading
- 1:41Speaker 1: world power England at the half one nil in Atlanta.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Their keeper is making unbelievable saves. They've had one cleared
- 1:48Speaker 1: off England shot cleared off the line. Congo scored in
- 1:51Speaker 1: a seventh minute and what would probably the biggest upset
- 1:53Speaker 1: in decades in the World Cup.
- 1:55Speaker 2: If that happens in the knockout stage, I'm down here.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Jimmy's on first the Silver Cloud Hotel because across the
- 2:00Speaker 1: street at one pm here in Seattle, Belgium and Senegal
- 2:03Speaker 1: at Lumenfield. Then at five pm the US and Bosnia
- 2:06Speaker 1: and Herschgovina in Santa Clara. The winner of those two
- 2:10Speaker 1: games Belgian, Senegal US Bosnia will play Monday here at
- 2:13Speaker 1: Lumenfield in Seattle at five pm.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Early.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Holland and Norway second half scored late yesterday, got a
- 2:20Speaker 1: key save in the final minutes to beat Ivory Coast
- 2:22Speaker 1: to advance the round of sixteen. France routed Sweden. Don't
- 2:25Speaker 1: look anyone's going to stop France killing him Bappe two
- 2:28Speaker 1: more goals. Mexico absolutely dominated equator of last night in
- 2:32Speaker 1: Mexico City. No more quito pertito. That's the curse in Mexico.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Because this is the first time since nineteen eighty eight
- 2:39Speaker 1: that Mexico will play a fifth game in a World Cup.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Fifth game quinto partito.
- 2:44Speaker 1: It'll be Sunday five piano in Mexico City. Mexico's gonna
- 2:47Speaker 1: play the winner of this England Congo match. NHL Norris
- 2:51Speaker 1: Trophy winning defenseman Zach Wrensky. The Columbus Blue Jackets rejected
- 2:55Speaker 1: a trade to the Dallas Stars. ESPN report. That's interesting,
- 2:58Speaker 1: of course, because here in Seattle, those stinging from Dallas
- 3:01Speaker 1: tar Jason Robertson rejecting the Kraken last week. Now we're
- 3:04Speaker 1: Rinszky rejects the Stars. NHL players of all kinds of
- 3:07Speaker 1: say where they go. NBA free j agency began yesterday,
- 3:11Speaker 1: NHL's beginning today. In the NBA, the Clippers are reportedly
- 3:14Speaker 1: trading Kawhi lettered back to the Toronto Raptors for his
- 3:17Speaker 1: second stint in Canada, and Jesson McIntyre's Washington State Cougars
- 3:24Speaker 1: have a historic eight point four to three million dollar
- 3:27Speaker 1: partnership with the Coleville Tribes. Are gonna be jerseys on
- 3:30Speaker 1: all of the Cougars team's sports gear. It's the largest
- 3:34Speaker 1: annual Spass Center agreement in WSU athletics history in US.
- 3:38Speaker 1: They needed right any outside we can get.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I mean, we're rebuilding the packed well right now and
- 3:44Speaker 3: Hoo's we're one of the two left behinds, so any
- 3:47Speaker 3: anything helps.
- 3:48Speaker 4: But a huge part of that helps.
- 3:50Speaker 1: The agreement also includes a quarter million dollars contribution by
- 3:53Speaker 1: the Coleville tribes to the Cougar Athletic.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Excellence Fund in its first year.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Now on with the Wednesday Show, Greg Ballet Newstribute, Jessamon
- 4:00Speaker 1: mcintary with yous we are every weekday Tenday Amternoon. I'm
- 4:02Speaker 1: at Jimmy's on first in the Silver Cloud Hotel right
- 4:05Speaker 1: across the street from lumen Field. Why because Belgium Senegal
- 4:09Speaker 1: are going to play in around the thirty two and
- 4:11Speaker 1: knockout phases have arrived here in Seattle, the fifth of
- 4:15Speaker 1: the six matches of this World Cup at Lumenfield, and
- 4:19Speaker 1: their fans already massing here in Soto. And there's a
- 4:22Speaker 1: watch party across the street from me at the half
- 4:24Speaker 1: Back Bar and Grill, and the Victory Hall across the
- 4:27Speaker 1: street from the Mariners Park. Belgium's national party, the Red
- 4:31Speaker 1: Devil's banner, who's pumping at eight am this morning, and
- 4:33Speaker 1: he was coming out of there.
- 4:35Speaker 2: A lot.
- 4:35Speaker 1: It's just like every other of the first four World
- 4:38Speaker 1: Cup matches. A lot of jerseys of all kinds of
- 4:40Speaker 1: teams around the world, a lot of Mexico jerseys and
- 4:43Speaker 1: flags after their big win to advance to the Round
- 4:46Speaker 1: of sixteen last night. Belgium, mostly Belgium fans, the Senegales
- 4:52Speaker 1: native Senegal's you cannot if you're a native of Senegal.
- 4:55Speaker 1: The current administration in the United States won't let you
- 4:58Speaker 1: fly into the country. You have to be a direct
- 5:01Speaker 1: family member or coach or player or staff member of
- 5:04Speaker 1: the Senegal team to travel into the United States for.
- 5:06Speaker 2: This World Cup. So it'll be onto the locals of.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Senegal, these descent or Senegal fans in the Pacific Northwest
- 5:13Speaker 1: to support their team. Today I was reading about the
- 5:15Speaker 1: Seattle Times will be about a thousand fans they expect
- 5:18Speaker 1: from the Senegal community in the Pacific Northwest coming tonight
- 5:22Speaker 1: today this afternoon at one o'clock to Senegal should have
- 5:26Speaker 1: won the African Cup. They had to win on the
- 5:29Speaker 1: field and it was overturned by a bunch of very
- 5:31Speaker 1: controversial tribunal and a bunch of things that Morocco ended
- 5:35Speaker 1: up winning the African Nations Cup. But that's how good
- 5:37Speaker 1: Senegal is. The dangerous game for Belgium is not played well,
- 5:41Speaker 1: not up to their tenth in FIFA World ranking coming
- 5:44Speaker 1: into this Tournament's an aging roster Kevin de Bruyn, and
- 5:48Speaker 1: they get thirty year olds all over the pitch. Lukaku
- 5:51Speaker 1: hasn't played every game in its entirety to try to
- 5:53Speaker 1: preserve him for these knockout rounds. So let's say Belgium
- 5:56Speaker 1: turns it on now that the games are knockout phase
- 5:59Speaker 1: today against Senegal again. The winner of this match here
- 6:03Speaker 1: today in Seattle will play the winner of the United
- 6:05Speaker 1: States against Bossie and Herstgovina. That match starts at five
- 6:08Speaker 1: o'clock our time in Santa Clara. The winner of those
- 6:13Speaker 1: two matches will play on Monday here in Seattle. There
- 6:16Speaker 1: are reports and rumors that President Trump will be here
- 6:19Speaker 1: if the United States wins and will play, and he
- 6:22Speaker 1: would come to the matches.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Well, the same thing happened that happened in the next game.
- 6:26Speaker 3: So like if we don't already have gridlocks downtown with
- 6:29Speaker 3: the road closings and everything.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Yeah, this has been It would be about my tenth
- 6:35Speaker 1: or twelfth sporting event or event with a president in attendance.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And yes, it adds layers and layers of time and
- 6:42Speaker 1: security and time.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Yes, So if that happens and you're planning on going
- 6:46Speaker 3: to the match. Everybody, just be prepared.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Be prepared to come super early. I mean, the Secret
- 6:52Speaker 1: Service requires often that you come three four hours early
- 6:55Speaker 1: before something like that. Normally, the World Cup gates for
- 6:58Speaker 1: the Worldlip matches here in Seattle gates open three hours
- 7:01Speaker 1: before the match starts.
- 7:03Speaker 2: That could change. The President comes in on.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Monday or downtown will be a good place to be early,
- 7:09Speaker 3: so that you can get in as soon as the
- 7:10Speaker 3: gates open, exactly. You know, hopefully he would come early
- 7:14Speaker 3: to appease that.
- 7:17Speaker 2: He won't come early.
- 7:18Speaker 1: No, he'll fly in right when it starts and lead
- 7:20Speaker 1: before it in. Actually, most presidents do do that for security.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Reads. On the show today, we're gonna talkbout how the
- 7:26Speaker 2: Rangers beat.
- 7:27Speaker 1: The Guardians last night, and something I don't think I've
- 7:29Speaker 1: ever seen in Major League Baseball, even Minor League Baseball
- 7:32Speaker 1: for that matter, kept the Mariners in second place. You're
- 7:35Speaker 1: not gonna like how it happened in Cleveland. Brian Woods
- 7:38Speaker 1: set a Mariner's record last night. He went big off
- 7:40Speaker 1: the field too. Yeah, yeah, Brian Wu. I really like him.
- 7:44Speaker 1: When I've talked to him, He's very earnest. He tells
- 7:46Speaker 1: you what he thinks. He didn't seem to be hiding anything.
- 7:49Speaker 1: He's a very genuine guy. He's and then what he
- 7:52Speaker 1: did yesterday.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Oh oh yeah, I interrupted the record. I'll let you
- 7:56Speaker 3: explain what it is.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Yeah, well, we'll talk about this orless streak of home innings.
- 8:01Speaker 1: But bigger than me was what he did off the
- 8:03Speaker 1: field yesterday. He absolutely violated a Major League Baseball superstition,
- 8:09Speaker 1: and we'll talk about that. We'll talk about the scenes
- 8:12Speaker 1: down here in Soto heading into Senegal and Belgium at
- 8:16Speaker 1: one o'clock. Kick mas Vite mari Era of Cascade of
- 8:20Speaker 1: Sports Net Fox thirteen Seattle television World Cup analysts probably
- 8:23Speaker 1: gonna join me here in Jimmy's on first around eleven o'clock.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Eleven o'clock will also have a keyword for your chance
- 8:29Speaker 1: to win twenty five hundred dollars, as Jessmin and I
- 8:31Speaker 1: do every day at eleven o'clock, and then we do
- 8:33Speaker 1: every day at eleven thirty, your chance to be a
- 8:36Speaker 1: part of the show four nine, four or five one
- 8:38Speaker 1: on the Tacoma Dodge text line, or as Jessman likes
- 8:41Speaker 1: to say, make sure you also put in the talkback
- 8:43Speaker 1: on the.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you touched that little red microphone. Give me
- 8:46Speaker 3: your best thirty seconds.
- 8:48Speaker 2: We had one yesterday.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Chris im Durian is very consistent in his contribution to
- 8:53Speaker 4: the shows.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Jessman, I'll play those back if we get any at
- 8:56Speaker 2: eleven thirty as well. Happy Bobby Bonia Day.
- 9:00Speaker 4: For those years, and I grew up a Mets fan.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Okay, that is the smartest thing I've ever seen someone do.
- 9:06Speaker 3: It was before all the talks of this deferred payment,
- 9:09Speaker 3: you know, it was before that was a popular option.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Bobby and his ex wife celebrate. Bobby, I'd be.
- 9:18Speaker 4: On a cruise somewhere, be on an island.
- 9:21Speaker 1: For those of you who don't know what I'm talking,
- 9:23Speaker 1: we are talking about, not this Mets fan. Jesman McIntyre
- 9:25Speaker 1: is still smarting over this. He gets Bobby Bonia, he
- 9:29Speaker 1: gets one point nine I'll just spell it off for you,
- 9:32Speaker 1: one million, one hundred ninety three, two hundred and forty
- 9:35Speaker 1: eight dollars, and don't forget the twenty cents.
- 9:38Speaker 4: That twenty cents is really what breaks the Mets.
- 9:41Speaker 2: He gets that.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Today from the Mets, who he hasn't played for since.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Get ready for this, Yeah, eighteen ninety nine.
- 9:49Speaker 4: It's amazing it's a thirty year deferment.
- 9:51Speaker 5: I think thirty five years. Thirty five They cut him.
- 9:55Speaker 5: They cut him because he's stunk for them, but his age.
- 9:58Speaker 2: This is how major League Baseball is so different than
- 10:00Speaker 2: the NFL.
- 10:02Speaker 1: This is why Major League Baseball players don't want anything
- 10:04Speaker 1: to do with a salary cap because they've been living
- 10:06Speaker 1: large like this for so many years. For thirty five years,
- 10:10Speaker 1: Bobby Bonia gets a payment on July first of every
- 10:13Speaker 1: year for one point one to nine million dollars for
- 10:17Speaker 1: stinking for the Mets. I grew up in Pittsburgh when
- 10:21Speaker 1: he was with the Pirates, and he and Bobby Bonds
- 10:22Speaker 1: ain't even slight. I was a Bobby Boonia fan. And
- 10:25Speaker 1: then he goes to New York and just as terrible.
- 10:27Speaker 1: But he got his mammoth contract that has all this
- 10:30Speaker 1: deferred money. Now showey Otani's gonna get this too with
- 10:32Speaker 1: the Dodgers.
- 10:33Speaker 4: He's still good, right.
- 10:36Speaker 2: He's not. He's at least not stealing the Dodgers money
- 10:38Speaker 2: from them. So he So, Bobby Bania.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Today is going to be in Baltimore for an Orioles game.
- 10:44Speaker 1: He's going to be a guest for one of the Orioles'
- 10:46Speaker 1: sponsors and the sponsors it's called the Venus. They're gonna
- 10:52Speaker 1: have him talk to people about how the Mets deferred
- 10:55Speaker 1: payments are giving him lifetime income from not doing anything.
- 10:59Speaker 2: And get this, he.
- 11:00Speaker 5: Divorced his wife a few years ago. She gets fifty
- 11:03Speaker 5: percent of that payment. Every July First, she gets six
- 11:05Speaker 5: hundred thousand dollars for not being married to Bobby Munio
- 11:09Speaker 5: who's not playing baseball for the last twenty six years.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Wow, it's unbelievable. Wow.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Man, she's celebrating July first right now. I'll tell you
- 11:18Speaker 3: that much.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that probably wasn't too hard for her to agree
- 11:22Speaker 2: to do.
- 11:23Speaker 3: This is like you know, when you win the lottery,
- 11:25Speaker 3: you can choose a lump sum or you know, X
- 11:28Speaker 3: amount of money over X amount of time. That's what
- 11:31Speaker 3: it reminds me of. Yes, because you don't do anything
- 11:35Speaker 3: and you still get the money.
- 11:36Speaker 2: One point one nine million per July first, every year
- 11:40Speaker 2: for thirty five years. He's gonna get this till twenty
- 11:42Speaker 2: thirty five.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Speaking of matrimony, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey are getting
- 11:47Speaker 1: married this weekend. Jessseman tells me, well, I don't know
- 11:51Speaker 1: is it this weekend? Well, it's a it's reportedly gonna
- 11:54Speaker 1: be a really low key affair. The rumors are it's
- 11:56Speaker 1: gonna be in New York inside Madison Square Garden. Right,
- 12:00Speaker 1: it's supposed to go Friday afternoon through four. Yes, Saturday,
- 12:04Speaker 1: you're right till July fourth. Saturday is supposed to end.
- 12:09Speaker 4: That's New York for you, though. That's when bars closed exactly.
- 12:12Speaker 1: That would match my wedding day. By the way, if
- 12:14Speaker 1: the class did in the July fourth, Wendy and I
- 12:16Speaker 1: got married on July fourth.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Oh nice, well a week before me. I'm July twelfth.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yeah. We did it because all our army friends from
- 12:23Speaker 2: around the world could get there on the holidays.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Oh that's awesome.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and they did nice thinking Germany and they came
- 12:28Speaker 2: from Panama. It was awesome.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I didn't mind during the All Star breaks, so kind
- 12:32Speaker 3: of same thinking. They're making it convenient for everyone.
- 12:36Speaker 2: So you tell me that there are prop bets, Jessamine, Oh.
- 12:40Speaker 4: My gosh, yes, just so okay.
- 12:42Speaker 3: There's prop bets for style of wedding, gown, outfit changes,
- 12:46Speaker 3: what time will the vows be exchanged? Will Kelsey and
- 12:50Speaker 3: Swift exchange nuptials inside the castle.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Is there a castle in Madison Square?
- 12:54Speaker 2: Probably building one? Okay?
- 12:56Speaker 3: Anyway, uh well, whether one of them will be left
- 13:00Speaker 3: at the altar?
- 13:00Speaker 4: Even onto on that one?
- 13:01Speaker 3: So I don't understand the bet there even yeah minus
- 13:05Speaker 3: one twenty minus one twenty, I don't get that anyway,
- 13:09Speaker 3: I don't get it. Will it be a shotgun wedding?
- 13:13Speaker 3: Swift must have a baby within eight months of July?
- 13:16Speaker 3: The ard to qualifies us. There's it goes on and
- 13:19Speaker 3: on and on and on. There's tons of these. So
- 13:21Speaker 3: what I would do, because these two are a fun
- 13:23Speaker 3: loving couple is I would go ahead and do everything
- 13:28Speaker 3: that has the word the best odds of winning.
- 13:32Speaker 4: Like you're looking at what style of wedding gown? Will
- 13:34Speaker 4: she wear? Sheath plus seven hundred.
- 13:36Speaker 3: I would go ahead and make idiots rich just for
- 13:40Speaker 3: the fun of it, like every single thing on here.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Let's see some other odds. Will Brittany Mahomes be a bridesmaid?
- 13:48Speaker 2: Yes?
- 13:49Speaker 3: Yes, so no is a resounding favorite. I would make
- 13:53Speaker 3: her a bridesmaid. I would do all this stuff. Patrick
- 13:57Speaker 3: Mahomes be a groomsman? No is the underdog there, so sorry, Patrick,
- 14:04Speaker 3: just join us later okay, just like.
- 14:06Speaker 4: Don't be kittle is in there?
- 14:08Speaker 3: Will Kanye West attend the wedding?
- 14:11Speaker 2: Yes?
- 14:12Speaker 4: Is the best odds there plus three hundred.
- 14:14Speaker 3: I'd go ahead and bite him. Hey man, could you
- 14:17Speaker 3: just stand at the altar for or it's just at
- 14:19Speaker 3: the at the wedding? Can you just stand in the
- 14:21Speaker 3: back and then you can bet we'll fly you in.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I just think that this is how many pieces of
- 14:26Speaker 3: wedding cake will Andy Reid eat over under his two
- 14:29Speaker 3: and a half.
- 14:31Speaker 4: I would just be like, coach, coach, we need you
- 14:33Speaker 4: to do this, We need you know.
- 14:36Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:36Speaker 3: It just could be fun with the ridiculous this of
- 14:39Speaker 3: what it is like, it's so stupid to me. Which
- 14:43Speaker 3: will happen first Kelsey announces his retirement or Swift announces pregnancy.
- 14:49Speaker 3: That one I'm not even touching because there are two
- 14:51Speaker 3: very personal things.
- 14:52Speaker 4: What wait, well the first baby be dude.
- 14:55Speaker 3: They're not even married yet anyway, there's I just find
- 15:00Speaker 3: them absolutely ridiculous. And if I were in that position,
- 15:04Speaker 3: because I'm a fun loving person too, I would go
- 15:06Speaker 3: ahead and mess with those so bad.
- 15:09Speaker 4: I would just mess with everyone on them.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Did you have odds and bookmakers?
- 15:12Speaker 3: On your wedding, uh, you know what, not to my knowledge,
- 15:16Speaker 3: but I would have worn red if that was, you know,
- 15:20Speaker 3: a really good odds.
- 15:21Speaker 4: I would have made someone really happy. Yeah, no, no
- 15:24Speaker 4: odds on my wedding.
- 15:27Speaker 1: In Cleveland last night, onto sports again. Yes, the Rangers
- 15:31Speaker 1: and Guardians were tied to two. In the top of
- 15:32Speaker 1: the seventh inning, Cleveland rookie left fielder Cooper Ingle was
- 15:37Speaker 1: camped under a routine fly ball. It was a Texas
- 15:39Speaker 1: runner at second base. I let the Cleveland Guardians television
- 15:42Speaker 1: commendators explain what happened next.
- 15:44Speaker 2: This is gonna make plays of the weird. Here's one
- 15:47Speaker 2: the left Cooper Ingle tracking two outs.
- 15:54Speaker 6: Oh no, no, one, Well, that's a mistake that I
- 16:01Speaker 6: promise you will not happen again. From Cooper Ingle. He's
- 16:09Speaker 6: kind of unfortunate in a lot of different ways. But
- 16:13Speaker 6: he thought there was two outs. Already made the catch
- 16:15Speaker 6: through the ball into the stands and that is a
- 16:17Speaker 6: two base air.
- 16:21Speaker 2: And I saw it kind of happen. He starts running
- 16:23Speaker 2: in and everybody started screaming. Yep, that's a tough one.
- 16:26Speaker 2: There's no two ways about it. And that just gave
- 16:29Speaker 2: Texas a three to two league. I'm kind of unfortunate
- 16:35Speaker 2: that the that's rough that cost him again. It was two,
- 16:40Speaker 2: two and seven.
- 16:42Speaker 1: He catches the ball and he just starts jogging off
- 16:44Speaker 1: and tosses the ball into the side left field seating
- 16:47Speaker 1: down the left field line.
- 16:49Speaker 2: And the pitcher.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Everybody's grabbing their hats yelling at him, and the runner
- 16:54Speaker 1: gets to score from second for a two base air.
- 16:57Speaker 2: That's the ground rolls. Are you throw a ball in
- 16:59Speaker 2: and say his two bases?
- 17:00Speaker 3: You could tell he was going to do it too,
- 17:02Speaker 3: because he started running in and so everybody's no, no, no, oh.
- 17:07Speaker 3: You know what, if we want to go back in
- 17:09Speaker 3: the way back machine, I dated a baseball player way
- 17:12Speaker 3: back in the day who actually did that, and it
- 17:15Speaker 3: was his He did it in college. You played at Clemson,
- 17:17Speaker 3: and it was his, like that's was his lasting memory.
- 17:21Speaker 3: He did it on he was an outfielder. It didn't
- 17:22Speaker 3: run an outfield catch, and he thought he just threw
- 17:25Speaker 3: it into the stands.
- 17:26Speaker 2: And stay on the team. My son was asking, do
- 17:29Speaker 2: they send this guy down a rookie back to triple.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Well, he was in college at the time, so it's
- 17:33Speaker 3: not like he got cut or anything. But it was
- 17:35Speaker 3: his legacy, and I feel really bad.
- 17:38Speaker 2: For him today. If you do that, your nil money
- 17:40Speaker 2: would probably get cut or something. But yeah, seriously, we'll
- 17:43Speaker 2: see if Cooper Ingles stays in the major leagues. After
- 17:46Speaker 2: pulling that last night, it cost it.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I mean it became a three to two game and
- 17:50Speaker 1: then Guardians end up losing four two, and that has
- 17:53Speaker 1: kept this Mariners back in second place, a half game
- 17:56Speaker 1: behind Texas thanks to Cleveland.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Huh.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Also, I wanted to about the Seahawks to remember I
- 18:02Speaker 1: told you that they're off pretty much gone and Alena
- 18:05Speaker 1: Williams is judging dunk contest at hoop Fest and Spokane
- 18:08Speaker 1: and guys are all over the place. This has gone
- 18:10Speaker 1: fishing time in the NFL season, but the training cap
- 18:13Speaker 1: will began on July twenty fifth. The retuns report on
- 18:16Speaker 1: July twenty fourth. The rookies report from Mike McDonald and
- 18:19Speaker 1: rent in a team facility on July seventeenth, so we're
- 18:22Speaker 1: only sixteen days away from that. One of the best
- 18:26Speaker 1: players in the NFC West is Arizona Cardinals tight end
- 18:28Speaker 1: Trey McBride, young up and coming star that Seahawks have
- 18:32Speaker 1: a hard time with him when they do play the Cardinals.
- 18:35Speaker 1: He was on the Busting with the Boys podcast. Same
- 18:37Speaker 1: podcast we played a couple of days ago with sam
- 18:39Speaker 1: Donold talking about his disappointment how he played personally in
- 18:42Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. And this is what Trey McBride bride
- 18:44Speaker 1: had to say when they ask him what he likes
- 18:47Speaker 1: least about the NFC West.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Who in the NFC West do you dislike the most?
- 18:52Speaker 2: And why is it the forty nine ers?
- 18:55Speaker 7: It's actually, to be honest, I think it's a Seattle
- 18:58Speaker 7: man that's a tough place to play. Their their defenses,
- 19:02Speaker 7: a bunch of talkers. They you know, they have a
- 19:05Speaker 7: really good team too. So I feel like every time
- 19:08Speaker 7: we go to Seattle with such a hostile environment, Loomen
- 19:11Speaker 7: Fields such a cool place to play, and they've gotten
- 19:14Speaker 7: the best of us the last couple of times. So
- 19:16Speaker 7: it'd be nice to get back on the winning side
- 19:18Speaker 7: for sure.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Seattle, that defense locked you up pretty good.
- 19:20Speaker 7: I don't know about locked me up.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I went for like one thirty, but I we lost whatever.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Yeah, Trey McBride's problem was a lot of teams. Yeah,
- 19:34Speaker 1: but yeah, he's not alone and thinking that way. And
- 19:37Speaker 1: let's face it, Lumenfield before last year was not Lumenfield
- 19:40Speaker 1: of the previous decade, No, because the teams weren't as
- 19:43Speaker 1: good and they were losing games home an away.
- 19:46Speaker 3: And then the fans, you know, kind of followed in
- 19:48Speaker 3: suit because they weren't as excited. They weren't as you know,
- 19:52Speaker 3: the team's not that good, that Lumen isn't Lumen, and.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Then ticket prices go up, so of course they were
- 19:57Speaker 1: selling to the team fans of the visiting team. I
- 20:00Speaker 1: don't blame him, but now last year had turned it
- 20:02Speaker 1: right on its head and that was one of the
- 20:03Speaker 1: priorities Mike McDonald had at this time last year going
- 20:06Speaker 1: into training camp twenty twenty five, he talked a lot
- 20:09Speaker 1: to his players in meetings and to us in the
- 20:13Speaker 1: media about re establishing home dominance. That was their number
- 20:17Speaker 1: one goal for last season is to make people not
- 20:20Speaker 1: want to play in Umenfield again, and it did and
- 20:23Speaker 1: at the end of the season it was all the
- 20:25Speaker 1: difference in the world to beat the Rams twice, playing
- 20:27Speaker 1: them both at home, including the NFC Championship game. But
- 20:29Speaker 1: Trey McBride offering that he doesn't like coming up here either.
- 20:33Speaker 1: It was many years before eras I mean, they will
- 20:36Speaker 1: lose him for years and years in the row. Coming
- 20:38Speaker 1: up here for a while the Cardinals for a long time.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Trey McBride from the Arizona Cardinals again. Training camp for
- 20:44Speaker 1: the Seahawks will begin in July twenty fifth. That's open
- 20:46Speaker 1: to the fans and go to the Seahawks team website
- 20:48Speaker 1: to register for your chance to watch them and get
- 20:50Speaker 1: autographs at the bottom of the berm at the end
- 20:52Speaker 1: of practice. Mike McDonald's big on that too. We make
- 20:54Speaker 1: sure every player, rookie, veterans, starters, reserves go to the
- 21:00Speaker 1: fans after practice to sign autographs. Up next here from
- 21:03Speaker 1: Jimmy's on first, right across the street from the World
- 21:05Speaker 1: Cup match at one o'clock of Belgium and Senegal, we're
- 21:09Speaker 1: gonna talk about Brian Willis setting a Mariners record last
- 21:12Speaker 1: night and winning big off the field too by violating
- 21:15Speaker 1: a long standing Major League Baseball tradition for starting pitchers
- 21:18Speaker 1: and it worked.
- 21:20Speaker 2: That's next.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Mas Vita mary Are has just sat down next to
- 21:22Speaker 1: me here Jimmy's on First to talk about the World
- 21:24Speaker 1: Cup that's coming up to on ninety three point three KJRFM,
- 21:43Speaker 1: Welcome back, Greg Belt.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Just back and tire with you on ninety three point
- 21:47Speaker 2: three KJRFM.
- 21:48Speaker 1: I'm at Jimmy's on First Silver Cloud Hotel right across
- 21:51Speaker 1: Occidental Avenue from Loomenfield, where fans are already starting to
- 21:55Speaker 1: walk in towards the stadium of Belgium and Senegal. They
- 21:59Speaker 1: meet in the on to thirty two elimination match here
- 22:01Speaker 1: in the World Cup in Seattle, the fifth of six
- 22:04Speaker 1: World Cup matches. The sixth will be on Monday, as
- 22:08Speaker 1: in July the sixth, two days after this holiday weekend.
- 22:10Speaker 1: One day after the holiday weekend five o'clock, the two
- 22:13Speaker 1: teams will be in the round of six team planing
- 22:15Speaker 1: in Seattle Monday will be the winner of this match
- 22:17Speaker 1: today in Seattle between Senegal and Belgium against the winner
- 22:20Speaker 1: of the United States in Bosnia Herzegovina. That game is
- 22:24Speaker 1: at five o'clock tonight in Santa Clara. The winners will
- 22:28Speaker 1: play here today. The biggest story of the World Cup
- 22:31Speaker 1: is brewing in Atlanta right now, where the Democratic Republic
- 22:34Speaker 1: of Congo is leading World power fourth ranked England. With
- 22:39Speaker 1: thirty minutes left in the match, they're in the hydration break.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Even though it's an indoor stadium, they have hydration breaks. Yeah,
- 22:45Speaker 1: for commercials in the US. But the second half hydration break,
- 22:49Speaker 1: England is trailing one nil to Congo. Of course, Mexico
- 22:54Speaker 1: had been presumed after winning last night to play England,
- 22:57Speaker 1: but now they might play Congo in Mexico City for
- 23:00Speaker 1: a chance to be in the round of eight in
- 23:02Speaker 1: the quarterfinals. That would be looney. If Carngo holds on
- 23:07Speaker 1: and beats England. Their keeper is making just unbelievable dramatic
- 23:11Speaker 1: acrobatic saves off headers, diving, jumping.
- 23:14Speaker 3: I love watching the acrobatics of goalies in the world.
- 23:17Speaker 2: You know what this is like.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Obviously the highest stage that you can play, soffera and
- 23:21Speaker 3: so that is the cream of the crop when it
- 23:24Speaker 3: comes to their ability, right.
- 23:26Speaker 2: And this guy for Congo is just save him, literally
- 23:30Speaker 2: saving him.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Last night Brian Woo saved the Mariners from really many
- 23:34Speaker 1: more bullpen decisions. Again, that's two nights in a row.
- 23:37Speaker 1: The starting pitcher's just taken the intrigue out of a
- 23:40Speaker 1: close game out of the hands of manager Dan Wilson
- 23:43Speaker 1: and president Jerry Depotto. Brian Woo, though, I mean, we
- 23:48Speaker 1: need more players and people like Brian Woo, the pitcher
- 23:51Speaker 1: and the person there's a tradition in Major League Baseball
- 23:55Speaker 1: and even in minor league baseball.
- 23:57Speaker 2: College baseball follows it because the pros do it.
- 24:00Speaker 1: The starting pitcher the day of a game when he's starting,
- 24:03Speaker 1: doesn't talk to anybody, don't talk to media, you.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Don't make eye contacts, righting.
- 24:08Speaker 1: The players his own teammates don't even talk to him.
- 24:10Speaker 1: They don't make eye contact. They leave him alone for
- 24:13Speaker 1: his pregame routine, and they keep him in the mental zone,
- 24:17Speaker 1: right yeah, Brian Wu. Yesterday, Brian was said Bump that
- 24:21Speaker 1: he brought children from Seattle, patients from Seattle Children's Hospital,
- 24:26Speaker 1: And I have mentioned you my wife has worked there
- 24:27Speaker 1: for twenty five years and some of the toughest cases
- 24:32Speaker 1: and saddest stories you could ever see are in Seattle
- 24:35Speaker 1: Children's Hospital.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Serious stuff.
- 24:37Speaker 1: It's a specialty care hospital that people from all over
- 24:40Speaker 1: the world in the West Coast come to.
- 24:42Speaker 2: My wife has patients from China.
- 24:44Speaker 4: I mean, oh, the date is it is one of
- 24:47Speaker 4: the best in the world.
- 24:48Speaker 1: And the cases there are really serious and children that
- 24:51Speaker 1: are in there are often very sick.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Well.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Brian Wu, for the second consecutive year invited Children's hospital
- 24:58Speaker 1: patients those that can leave the hospital which some can't
- 25:01Speaker 1: to t Mobile Park. And yesterday before the game, before
- 25:06Speaker 1: Brian Wo started, he hosted these kids for a reverse
- 25:09Speaker 1: signing day instead of signing autographs for the kids, which
- 25:12Speaker 1: they did a few up too the Mariners. Of course,
- 25:14Speaker 1: the kids signed autographs for the Mariners for Brian Wu.
- 25:18Speaker 2: So awesome, It's so cool.
- 25:20Speaker 1: And the Mariners were putting out the videos of Brian
- 25:23Speaker 1: Wu's signing autograph or kids signing autographs and handing them
- 25:26Speaker 1: to Brian Wu and to his teammates. But knowing baseball
- 25:30Speaker 1: players like I do, and covering it when I was
- 25:32Speaker 1: a beat writer, you're right, just when you can't even
- 25:34Speaker 1: look at a starting pitcher in the day he pitches.
- 25:37Speaker 3: I'm in that clubhouse a lot, and I just get
- 25:39Speaker 3: scared when they walk by. I'm just like, stare at
- 25:41Speaker 3: the ground. Stare at the ground. Okay, let them walk by, like,
- 25:43Speaker 3: do not even say hi.
- 25:45Speaker 2: And the teammates do the same thing. They do. They
- 25:47Speaker 2: all honor it. So Brian Wu said, forget that, I'm
- 25:50Speaker 2: bringing the kids in. I don't care. It's my day
- 25:52Speaker 2: to start. This is the day.
- 25:53Speaker 1: The kids are coming from Seattle Children's. So he does
- 25:56Speaker 1: that and to show you how just superstitition it is.
- 25:58Speaker 1: And there's not much marior to the superstition. Woo just
- 26:01Speaker 1: goes out and shoves right.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, And you know what that's We talked about
- 26:06Speaker 3: his personality last segment, and that is just a perfect
- 26:10Speaker 3: example of that. I'm in the zone. Don't worry about it.
- 26:12Speaker 3: The kids are more important than my zone. And by
- 26:14Speaker 3: the way, I'm still in it.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Right go pitching scoreless into the seventh prayer, high one
- 26:19Speaker 1: hundred and six pitches. All of a sudden, the mirrors
- 26:22Speaker 1: then Dan Wilson and Jerry Depoto are letting their pitchers
- 26:25Speaker 1: throw a hundred pitches in their arms. Haven't fallen off yet, Hey, No,
- 26:30Speaker 1: one hundred and six pitches last night a career high,
- 26:32Speaker 1: but great for him and more than the game, it's
- 26:35Speaker 1: just of all the things people could give to in
- 26:38Speaker 1: time to and Children's Hospital is up there. I mean,
- 26:42Speaker 1: it is such a fantastic cause to do that. I
- 26:45Speaker 1: see firsthand the patience that my wife has on what
- 26:48Speaker 1: these things and what they've done. I've talked about Russell
- 26:50Speaker 1: Wilson and the Blue Tuesdays. They still to this day
- 26:53Speaker 1: have a children's hospital because of him. One of the
- 26:56Speaker 1: reasons that Brian wou set the record for thirty two
- 26:59Speaker 1: concent excutive scoreless ending broke Felix Hernandez's record for scoreless
- 27:03Speaker 1: hetnings at home last night was what happened in the
- 27:06Speaker 1: fifth inning. Angels had first and second, nobody out Logan
- 27:11Speaker 1: o'hapi was squaring the sacrifice.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Bunt the runners the second and third.
- 27:15Speaker 1: I don't know if you noticed, Yes, if you're watching
- 27:16Speaker 1: the game, yep, did you see how close Josh Naylor
- 27:20Speaker 1: came to defend that bunt, ran up on the bunt o'hapy.
- 27:23Speaker 2: He could smell the bubblegum that o HOPI was chewing.
- 27:26Speaker 2: I mean he was. He was like from me to
- 27:29Speaker 2: mos feet away from him when he squared the butt.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Now, you don't see major league's do that because of
- 27:37Speaker 1: the possibility that the guy will say, Oh, if you're
- 27:39Speaker 1: gonna play me this close, I'm pulling the back back.
- 27:40Speaker 4: Yeah exactly.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Now he's got the instincts of a bloodhound like he is.
- 27:46Speaker 4: Just he's got it. He can sniff ound.
- 27:48Speaker 2: That takes guts to gouts.
- 27:51Speaker 1: That the closest Naylor did last night. So what happened
- 27:54Speaker 1: hoppy seas Naylor that closely. He decides not to bunt
- 27:57Speaker 1: the first base, which is what he looked like he
- 27:59Speaker 1: was squaring to do, and he angled his bat other
- 28:01Speaker 1: way to third. But in switching his bat, he got
- 28:05Speaker 1: crossed up and ended up hitting the bat hitting the
- 28:07Speaker 1: ball too hard. He bunted it too hard, right to
- 28:09Speaker 1: JP Crawford, who didn't even have to charge it from
- 28:12Speaker 1: third base. Crawford fielded the bunch so close to third
- 28:15Speaker 1: he just walked over and made the force out of third.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Naylor's charging from first base forced to Hoppy into a
- 28:21Speaker 1: bad bunt right to third base, and the Mariners get
- 28:24Speaker 1: the foce out of third.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Why was that important?
- 28:26Speaker 1: Because the next batter hit a line drive to pretty
- 28:29Speaker 1: deep I'd say medium deep center field to Julio Rodriguez.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Pretty sure the Angels, especially in the season they're happened,
- 28:35Speaker 1: would have challenged Rodriguez and tried to score from third
- 28:38Speaker 1: on a sacrifice fly on that ball. But because of
- 28:41Speaker 1: what Naylor did to force so Hoppy to bun into
- 28:44Speaker 1: a hard bunt force out at third base, there's no runner.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Third runners don't advance on the deep line drive to
- 28:50Speaker 1: Julio Rodriguez, and they wu gets.
- 28:53Speaker 2: The next out on a soft ground ball to first base.
- 28:56Speaker 4: What just happened?
- 28:57Speaker 2: Greg?
- 28:58Speaker 4: We got some screaming in the back.
- 29:00Speaker 2: The special of Jimmy the Breakfast Special just came out.
- 29:02Speaker 1: We actually England just tied finally after trying and trying,
- 29:07Speaker 1: they finally beat the Congo goaltender in the seventy fifth minute.
- 29:12Speaker 1: England won. Congo won in Atlanta. I think it was
- 29:15Speaker 1: Harry Kane yet again. And there are people in the
- 29:18Speaker 1: England fans in the stands. Fox Television showing them crying
- 29:22Speaker 1: the stress relief of Harry Kine and England finally scoring
- 29:25Speaker 1: in the seventy fifth minute of the knockout met Toget Congo.
- 29:28Speaker 1: So that's one one of course, remember in World Cup
- 29:31Speaker 1: matches now in the elimination stage, but it's tied after
- 29:33Speaker 1: ninety plus minutes, you go to extra time for thirty
- 29:36Speaker 1: minutes two to fifteen minute periods and then a shootout,
- 29:39Speaker 1: penalty kicks shootout if it still remains tied after that.
- 29:44Speaker 1: So anyway, the point is, if Naylor hadn't charged so hard,
- 29:47Speaker 1: Ohapi wouldn't have grounded into a bunted hard into a
- 29:51Speaker 1: force out at third would have been a runner at third,
- 29:54Speaker 1: and the scoreless streak would have been over in the
- 29:55Speaker 1: fifth inning. I think at least they would have Angels
- 29:58Speaker 1: would have challenged. I think an attempted to say sacrifice
- 30:00Speaker 1: fly on the fly ball.
- 30:01Speaker 2: To Rodriguez one out, scoreless after five.
- 30:05Speaker 1: He takes scoreless in the seventh and then Maren has
- 30:07Speaker 1: ended up winning, pulling away eight three. But it's just
- 30:10Speaker 1: that ball within ball game, the little inside ball stuff
- 30:13Speaker 1: like Josh Naylor did. And Josh Naylor's been in the
- 30:16Speaker 1: news a lot this week for ticking off Cleveland and
- 30:20Speaker 1: Austin Kerns yapping at him from catcher after he Naylor
- 30:25Speaker 1: got hit by a pitch without really getting out of
- 30:26Speaker 1: the way a bit. But Josh Davie, that's a ballplayer
- 30:29Speaker 1: play to do that and guts like I said, so,
- 30:33Speaker 1: Brian Wu now he just passed Felix or Nan his
- 30:36Speaker 1: thirty scoreless innings and home games, and now he's thirty two.
- 30:39Speaker 1: It ended in the seventh inning he got charged to run,
- 30:41Speaker 1: and then the two inherited run runners he left when
- 30:44Speaker 1: he left the game also scored in the three running
- 30:47Speaker 1: for the Angels. Wu now has thrown six plus innings
- 30:50Speaker 1: in twenty one home games since the beginning of last season.
- 30:53Speaker 1: That's the most in the major leagues. Why are we
- 30:55Speaker 1: call talking so much about wu at home games? Because
- 30:57Speaker 1: he's six and zero in a two ten ERA home
- 31:00Speaker 1: and that's including a six run start against the Royals
- 31:03Speaker 1: at T Mobile Park. He's got a two ten ERA
- 31:05Speaker 1: even with that. On the road though, he's one and
- 31:08Speaker 1: six with a six point three eighty RA And he
- 31:12Speaker 1: talked openly in Pittsburgh after he lost the other day
- 31:15Speaker 1: last week on the road trip, how he has to
- 31:17Speaker 1: figure that out and sometimes it's just a mental block. Yeah,
- 31:21Speaker 1: I mean sometimes, Well, let's make said right, jetsman. It's
- 31:24Speaker 1: a picture's park in Seattle.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, it has been since its inception. This is
- 31:31Speaker 3: also a note from the four two five. Did you
- 31:33Speaker 3: guys see his cleats too, because the kids painted them?
- 31:36Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 31:36Speaker 1: I think I think it was three different kids painted
- 31:40Speaker 1: the cleats that he wore last night. I think he'd
- 31:41Speaker 1: been wearing those cleats for other starts too, from other
- 31:44Speaker 1: kids that paint them. And you don't think that the
- 31:47Speaker 1: parents and the families and the kids themselves get fired
- 31:50Speaker 1: up over that. Think about it if you're a parent
- 31:54Speaker 1: or don't think about it if you're a parent, because
- 31:55Speaker 1: this is scary. But if you're a parent who has
- 31:57Speaker 1: a child in children's hospital, that's not allowed for you
- 32:00Speaker 1: to look forward to. Your friends are all running around outside,
- 32:03Speaker 1: or they're going to school, or even worse of their holidays,
- 32:05Speaker 1: they're at Christmas, and you're in children's hospital with IVS
- 32:08Speaker 1: and in your arm and scared to death with machines beeping.
- 32:13Speaker 1: When players do this and community members do this, it's
- 32:18Speaker 1: something that they It changes their lives. Honestly, it gives
- 32:22Speaker 1: them something to look forward to. I've seen it. I've
- 32:24Speaker 1: been in there. It's just an amazing transformation that the
- 32:28Speaker 1: anticipation of the event coming. They know well in advance
- 32:32Speaker 1: that they're doing this, and it's just it's transformational.
- 32:37Speaker 2: It really is.
- 32:38Speaker 1: For the families, for the staff there. My wife included,
- 32:41Speaker 1: she said yesterday she knew about Brian Wu and they'd
- 32:44Speaker 1: been talking about it. The kids and the staff at
- 32:46Speaker 1: Children's Hospital had been talking for weeks about June thirtieth.
- 32:50Speaker 1: They were going to go to t Mobile Park and
- 32:52Speaker 1: get to sign autographs to the marriage, not from the Mariners,
- 32:55Speaker 1: but to the marriage.
- 32:56Speaker 4: Yeah, that's so cool.
- 32:56Speaker 2: I love that. Yeah, it's really cool.
- 32:58Speaker 1: So four nine four, And hopefully you haven't had experience
- 33:02Speaker 1: of your child and Children's hospital, but if you have,
- 33:05Speaker 1: I think you know what I'm talking about. And I've
- 33:08Speaker 1: said this, had written this before. But we can say
- 33:11Speaker 1: what we want about Russell Wilson, his legacy, how he
- 33:13Speaker 1: left here, how messy it was. That guy's a Mount
- 33:17Speaker 1: Rushmore Seattle athlete.
- 33:18Speaker 2: For what he did at.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Children's Hospital, not even counting the Super Bowl that he won,
- 33:22Speaker 1: the second one that he took him to to help
- 33:24Speaker 1: lead him to, what he did at Children's Hospital was legendary.
- 33:28Speaker 1: I don't care that he published it on social media
- 33:30Speaker 1: and TikTok solo.
- 33:31Speaker 3: It didn't start that way either. You know he was
- 33:34Speaker 3: he started doing that before he was Russell.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Do you know when it started? I think you do.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I've said this before.
- 33:40Speaker 1: It started the week he got here as a rookie
- 33:42Speaker 1: in twenty twelve, a mini camp in May.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Yeah, with Matt Flynn's slated to be the startup quarterback.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Exactly, and he showed up the first day in May
- 33:50Speaker 1: at Children's Hospital on a Tuesday, the first full week
- 33:53Speaker 1: he was here as a Seahawk after getting drafted in
- 33:55Speaker 1: the third round and he walked into Children's Hospital's front
- 33:57Speaker 1: desk and he said, I'm Russell Wilson in the front desk.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Security guys at who are you? Who's russelling?
- 34:02Speaker 7: Well?
- 34:02Speaker 3: Right, hey, this is this is a really good note
- 34:05Speaker 3: from Ashley Ryan, who produces our morning show. She said
- 34:08Speaker 3: her friend's daughter Charlotte painted one of the pair of cleats.
- 34:11Speaker 3: They said it was just amazing presenting him with the shoes.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Thank you, Ashley, that's a really great note.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Good on Charlotte. Good on Brian Wu for wearing Charlotte's shoes.
- 34:20Speaker 1: I hope Charlotte does well with whatever she's doing. Me too,
- 34:23Speaker 1: Children's Hospital.
- 34:24Speaker 2: But thanks Ashley.
- 34:25Speaker 1: And yeah, that puts me. I put Brian Wu in
- 34:29Speaker 1: all start in my book, and know what impacting that is.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Hats off to him, Hats off for the Mariners for
- 34:35Speaker 1: doing that yesterday and they won and Brian Wo shoved
- 34:37Speaker 1: so good that superstition. I'm talking to Brian Woo the
- 34:40Speaker 1: next epe on a pitching day.
- 34:43Speaker 4: I wouldn't go that far.
- 34:44Speaker 2: No, not in there lay or not in breaking that up.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Next World Cup Daily, we'll talk about the recap around
- 34:50Speaker 1: the World Cup with maz vitem he's next sitting next
- 34:53Speaker 1: to me. He's from Cascadia Sports Net and Fox thirteen,
- 34:56Speaker 1: Seattle Sports Television's World Cup analyst. England and are one
- 35:00Speaker 1: to one in the ped of the eighty plus minutes
- 35:03Speaker 1: in Atlanta. What upset that would be in the World Cup,
- 35:06Speaker 1: Maz and I'll talk about it next to ninety three
- 35:08Speaker 1: point three kJ RFM.
- 35:41Speaker 4: Welcome back to the Greg Bell Show.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Greg is hob nobbin down there at Jimmy's with all
- 35:46Speaker 3: the soccer fans because the World Cup is well in action.
- 35:49Speaker 3: I'm Jessaman McIntyre joining Greg. I'm back at the studio.
- 35:52Speaker 3: But it sounds like a riled up crowd down there
- 35:56Speaker 3: at Jimmy's. And we'll get Greg on just in a
- 35:59Speaker 3: second year. He is hanging out with mos Vita down
- 36:03Speaker 3: there and the crowd goes wild, having a good time.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Yeah that time, Greg.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Now that England just scored the great Harry Kane, They're
- 36:12Speaker 1: probably gonna knight Harry Kane in the dressing room after
- 36:14Speaker 1: the game for this performance. Two goals in the last
- 36:17Speaker 1: five minutes, this one coming in the eighty six minute
- 36:20Speaker 1: in Atlanta. So England goes from nil one down to
- 36:23Speaker 1: two to one up on Congo with now just minutes
- 36:27Speaker 1: to play in Atlanta in the round to thirty two.
- 36:30Speaker 1: If that result holds, England will play Mexico in Mexico
- 36:35Speaker 1: City on Sunday. That'll be the biggest match in Mexico
- 36:38Speaker 1: City since the eighty six World Cup. When Maridona's Hand
- 36:42Speaker 1: of God gold, it's probably the final. I mean that,
- 36:45Speaker 1: that will be off the hook on Sunday at five
- 36:48Speaker 1: pm Mexico. Looks like it's gonna be England unless Congo
- 36:51Speaker 1: can rally here in the last few minutes in Atlanta
- 36:53Speaker 1: in the round to thirty two, We'll see I mean that.
- 36:57Speaker 1: But yeah, this place exploded with Harry Kane and scoring
- 37:01Speaker 1: the goal of second and seven minutes Basvita Mari Zimbabwe
- 37:06Speaker 1: in one of his fellow African team to stun the English.
- 37:09Speaker 1: He's sitting next to me here at Jimmy's on First
- 37:11Speaker 1: he's Fox thirteen World Cup analyst and he's also with
- 37:15Speaker 1: Cascade A Sports said hell sir.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Thanks for having me Greg, Yeah, appreciate it. Sorry you
- 37:21Speaker 2: were rooting for you were rooted for Cargo.
- 37:24Speaker 8: I'm rooting for the mother Cotton in any country that's
- 37:26Speaker 8: from Africa. I got a root for them from Africa,
- 37:29Speaker 8: I be, but I do, yeah, yeah, and I do
- 37:33Speaker 8: like the Three Lions.
- 37:35Speaker 2: That's my non.
- 37:36Speaker 9: You know, anytime they're they're playing and gone to a
- 37:40Speaker 9: couple of euro Championships, So I'm a three three Lions
- 37:45Speaker 9: ruder per se?
- 37:47Speaker 2: What's that Mexico England match gonna be?
- 37:49Speaker 3: Like?
- 37:49Speaker 2: On who's a favorite there? Mexico?
- 37:51Speaker 1: I mean they've never I mean, they're only the third
- 37:53Speaker 1: World Cup team ever to have four clean sheets to
- 37:56Speaker 1: start a World Cup and now they've gotten rid of
- 37:59Speaker 1: the quinto potrido, the curse of the fifth match in
- 38:02Speaker 1: the World Cup. They hadn't had one since nineteen eighty eight.
- 38:04Speaker 1: There will be a fifth match. It'll be an e
- 38:06Speaker 1: Stadio a Steca in Mexico City on Sunday. And it
- 38:10Speaker 1: looks like against England.
- 38:12Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean Mexico now has an attacking duel, right,
- 38:17Speaker 9: I mean you saw that and then that's really the key.
- 38:20Speaker 2: We saw that last night.
- 38:21Speaker 9: And they've always had a good defense, decent goalkeepers. So
- 38:26Speaker 9: now you're like, okay, you take England's i mean Mexico's
- 38:30Speaker 9: attack and put it up there against obviously Harry Kane,
- 38:36Speaker 9: there's going to be some goals there, but the battle
- 38:40Speaker 9: the midfield is going to be critical. When I think,
- 38:43Speaker 9: I don't know, I mean that's going to be the battle,
- 38:46Speaker 9: right because if you can who can cut off the
- 38:48Speaker 9: supply line to the front line is going to be critical.
- 38:52Speaker 9: It isn't any game, but I think much so much
- 38:55Speaker 9: more in that game. And then you have to go
- 38:58Speaker 9: to shot creation, right, and then it's going to be
- 39:00Speaker 9: a battle of space, and in that one you would
- 39:05Speaker 9: favor England. But I think the home crowd is going
- 39:10Speaker 9: to be the difference. And I get England is battle
- 39:13Speaker 9: tested and they know how to you know, play on
- 39:17Speaker 9: the road so to speak. But you know, like last night,
- 39:21Speaker 9: and you know we'll suit out in the United States.
- 39:24Speaker 9: The twelfth man is I think what would make a
- 39:28Speaker 9: difference in terms of adversity, but who can overcome adversity
- 39:32Speaker 9: as the key.
- 39:33Speaker 1: They absolutely smuged. The Mexican team smothered Ecuador last night
- 39:37Speaker 1: from the start. That game was over in the first
- 39:39Speaker 1: twenty five minutes. Mexico scored two goals in the first
- 39:42Speaker 1: thirty one and then just held on to two nothing.
- 39:44Speaker 1: The Equador connected anything that my son was watching that match.
- 39:47Speaker 1: He's played center back in college and he said, man,
- 39:50Speaker 1: they play a pack back line the Mexican team with
- 39:53Speaker 1: leaving a bunch of space in the midfield, which you
- 39:56Speaker 1: got to have midfielder is I can run and still run.
- 39:59Speaker 1: And the other thing Mexico as an advantage playing in
- 40:01Speaker 1: Mexico City is the altitude. And if you have to
- 40:04Speaker 1: play a midfield game that you're talking about, Mazito, the
- 40:06Speaker 1: team that's playing at five thousand feet all their lives
- 40:09Speaker 1: versus the England it's the Movenders coming in there for
- 40:12Speaker 1: just one game, because I mean, England's in Atlanta right
- 40:15Speaker 1: now and now they get a fly from Atlanta to
- 40:17Speaker 1: Mexico City to play at altitude. Mexico has the advantage
- 40:22Speaker 1: and that's part of the reason when you host the
- 40:23Speaker 1: World Cup, if you win, you will get the spoils.
- 40:26Speaker 9: And England can't do what they did against Senegal, right
- 40:31Speaker 9: I mean I mean that, I mean the DRC if
- 40:34Speaker 9: you will that is, you can't wait and wait and
- 40:38Speaker 9: wait and wait.
- 40:38Speaker 2: You have to be in the.
- 40:39Speaker 9: Attack because just to that point, if England gets down
- 40:42Speaker 9: Wedneszi O, I mean it altitude, the crowd, you know,
- 40:46Speaker 9: it makes it that just much harder.
- 40:49Speaker 2: You know for the to win those duels you mentioned.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Senegal. They play at one o'clock today against Belgium. Belgium
- 40:56Speaker 1: the traditional power, tenth ranked in the world and aging
- 40:59Speaker 1: but still proven roster Kevin de Bryner and Lukaku. Their
- 41:05Speaker 1: goalkeeper is one of the world's best, but they're older
- 41:09Speaker 1: and they haven't been themselves for most of this tournament.
- 41:11Speaker 1: I watched them draw one one with Egypt and the
- 41:13Speaker 1: very first of these Seattle matches. They had trouble with
- 41:17Speaker 1: Iran in Los Angeles before they pulled out a draw late,
- 41:21Speaker 1: but then they routed New Zealand in Vancouver on Friday
- 41:25Speaker 1: night five one, though maybe looked more like themselves. Senegal
- 41:28Speaker 1: should have won the African Nations Cup. They actually did
- 41:30Speaker 1: on the field and returned with the dry bunal and
- 41:32Speaker 1: all guys of garbage that can end up giving it
- 41:35Speaker 1: to Morocco.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Senegal's got some players though this this is gonna be
- 41:39Speaker 2: a test for Belgium, is it not. Yeah?
- 41:41Speaker 9: And actually, depending on who you ask, the senate goal
- 41:45Speaker 9: is favorite in this game. And so when you look
- 41:48Speaker 9: at that, I mean they've got a couple of players.
- 41:50Speaker 9: In terms of I think saw is just incredible and
- 41:54Speaker 9: he's their right wing of Issa right there and then
- 41:57Speaker 9: obviously on the far left wing you've got set of
- 41:59Speaker 9: money and you know Liverpool and he's in the Premier League.
- 42:03Speaker 9: But their midfield is the guy brothers are there.
- 42:08Speaker 2: I think is is the key.
- 42:10Speaker 9: Their ability to accelerate down the field, create space is
- 42:16Speaker 9: what's going to be a test for.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Belgium.
- 42:21Speaker 9: Belgium and that is Ken Kevin Debriner and Tressard keep
- 42:28Speaker 9: up and Doku for them to some extent, even though
- 42:31Speaker 9: they're gonna look for Jimmy Daku to be that is,
- 42:34Speaker 9: Belgium will look for him on the left wing there
- 42:36Speaker 9: to create space and then put Senegal on the back
- 42:39Speaker 9: there again go back to the midfield. But Tillaman is
- 42:42Speaker 9: gonna have to have a real good game for then
- 42:44Speaker 9: he's one of the pivots.
- 42:47Speaker 2: In Belgium matches.
- 42:48Speaker 1: I watched, Well, let's take a break if you can
- 42:50Speaker 1: you stay absolutely finks. Yeah, of Belgium, they're gonna go
- 42:54Speaker 1: against a backup keeper. It looks like because what mende
- 42:56Speaker 1: the Mendy's the former Chelsea keeper, yeah, among others, and
- 43:00Speaker 1: he's not playing apparently because of injury, so there'll be
- 43:02Speaker 1: a backup keeper in net for Senegal at one o'clock
- 43:05Speaker 1: at Lomenfield right across the street from here from Jimmy's.
- 43:07Speaker 1: On first coming up, we'll talk more with myz Vida
- 43:09Speaker 1: about the about the US at five o'clock playing Bosnia
- 43:11Speaker 1: herz Goovina. Looks like they'll play well, they'll play the
- 43:16Speaker 1: winner of Belgium and Senegal. We'll talk about that next.
- 43:19Speaker 1: The ninety three point three kJ RFN.
- 43:38Speaker 2: Why are we playing this moss jazz? Well, that's fantastic
- 43:45Speaker 2: rock jazz. You who this is? Cold?
- 43:48Speaker 1: Rank Dave brubakap Quartet sixty seven years ago today this
- 43:54Speaker 1: song was recorded Okay, okay, Take five Wow, one of
- 43:59Speaker 1: the most famous jazz songs jazz singles ever recorded sixty
- 44:03Speaker 1: seven years ago today that Dave brew Bec Quartet recorded.
- 44:06Speaker 2: Take five and that's what this is front. Thanks for
- 44:09Speaker 2: Jessamin McIntyre for playing that for us. She tell people
- 44:12Speaker 2: about our uh your mind battles in the sea.
- 44:16Speaker 9: Yes, practice because they'll play they'll play us in all
- 44:20Speaker 9: the music at the Seahawk practices are not the quality
- 44:23Speaker 9: of Dave Brubec's Take five.
- 44:25Speaker 1: I can tell you that it tends to sound the
- 44:28Speaker 1: same after about thirty five days in training camp and you.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Just cannot take you like that. There's nothing to play
- 44:33Speaker 2: to this.
- 44:34Speaker 5: We don't have instruments. That's the first thing. There are
- 44:36Speaker 5: no instruments. Thirty five days listening to no instruments.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Maz Vitemurer and I Greg Bell, Jessin McIntyre Beck of
- 44:43Speaker 1: the Elliott Bay Studios here live on ninety three point
- 44:45Speaker 1: three kJ R FM. I'm across the street from Lumenfield.
- 44:48Speaker 1: I'm Jimmy's on first at the Silver Cloud Hotel. Because
- 44:52Speaker 1: at one o'clock Belgium and Senegal will play the fifth
- 44:55Speaker 1: of six matches of the World Cup here in Seattle.
- 44:57Speaker 1: This one means a ton because it's a knockout round
- 45:00Speaker 1: to thirty two loser go home Belgium and Senegal. The
- 45:04Speaker 1: winner will play the winner of the United States against
- 45:06Speaker 1: Bosnia hers Govina. That is at five o'clock match in
- 45:08Speaker 1: Santa Clara today on Fox Television and on ninety three
- 45:11Speaker 1: point three KGRFM Live. You'll hear it here on your
- 45:14Speaker 1: radio station. Moz Us and Bosnia we talked about it
- 45:18Speaker 1: earlier this week. Bozzi's a big team front and back
- 45:21Speaker 1: height size. They've given some teams some trouble. They but
- 45:25Speaker 1: been battle tested winning in the knockout or the qualifying stages,
- 45:29Speaker 1: had to win on penalty kicks to beat Wales and
- 45:32Speaker 1: Italy Bosnia. Hearst Govina is the reason Italy is not
- 45:34Speaker 1: at this World Cup. And here's Bosnia winning in or
- 45:38Speaker 1: tying drawing with Canada in their first match in Vancouver.
- 45:42Speaker 1: That point is why they got into the round of
- 45:43Speaker 1: thirty two. What do you expect in tonight? What's the
- 45:47Speaker 1: US have to do? Maybe it has done in its
- 45:50Speaker 1: earlier matches Turkey Nott was standing when they rested nine
- 45:52Speaker 1: and eleven regulars, But what do you expect tonight?
- 45:56Speaker 9: First twenty minutes, right, I think the US has to
- 45:59Speaker 9: come out of the gates, lion, and so that is
- 46:02Speaker 9: they're gonna try to Tillman's gonna try to get the
- 46:03Speaker 9: ball to Pulisic wide with Antonio Robinson overlapping over there,
- 46:08Speaker 9: and then you're gonna try to get Western McKenny cutting inside.
- 46:12Speaker 9: And then what that's gonna do is create space, So
- 46:15Speaker 9: Serde your desk kind of slides into the far right,
- 46:17Speaker 9: which then obviously they're gonna try to find bologna in there.
- 46:20Speaker 9: But all said players McKenny, Pulisic, they all have to
- 46:24Speaker 9: get inside that box. And that's what the United States
- 46:27Speaker 9: has been good at. And according to tyran Reeze, if
- 46:31Speaker 9: you take every third from the left back to one, two, three,
- 46:34Speaker 9: all the way down in the number seventeen, that is
- 46:37Speaker 9: that area in front of the box. And if you
- 46:39Speaker 9: can not right in the box, but the one the
- 46:42Speaker 9: block right behind it, that's what at the top of
- 46:45Speaker 9: the penalty or that that's where I mean, you know,
- 46:50Speaker 9: that's the lab as the kids call it for the
- 46:52Speaker 9: prolific strikers. And the reason why is because you and
- 46:55Speaker 9: now facing the goal right and defenders can't really see
- 46:58Speaker 9: that and then you're so that's what they're gonna try
- 47:02Speaker 9: to do.
- 47:03Speaker 2: Who's best in there? For the US? Bala Gun often
- 47:05Speaker 2: comes up to the flanks. Who's best in that seventeen?
- 47:09Speaker 9: I think McKinney right, I like how he goes And
- 47:13Speaker 9: then obviously what Polistic now understands is to get wide
- 47:17Speaker 9: and cut inside. That sounds simple, but what he can
- 47:21Speaker 9: do now is do with one move right as opposed
- 47:23Speaker 9: to balls on his right foot, he hits it on
- 47:25Speaker 9: the left and then he's gotta switch it back. No,
- 47:28Speaker 9: Now what he does is that he hits it on
- 47:30Speaker 9: his left and then cuts inside with his left and
- 47:32Speaker 9: thereby we talked about this before you're tripping the defender.
- 47:35Speaker 9: I don't have time if I'm the defender to kind
- 47:37Speaker 9: of you know, set my feet and then take a
- 47:39Speaker 9: two feet back.
- 47:40Speaker 2: So what he's doing now, he's cutting it, you know
- 47:43Speaker 2: what I mean.
- 47:43Speaker 9: So you're tripping up the defender, crossing the ankles, as
- 47:47Speaker 9: the kids would say. So I think balls and know
- 47:49Speaker 9: what they're gonna try to do. I don't necessarily think
- 47:52Speaker 9: they're just going to you know, ay, I think they'll
- 47:55Speaker 9: goo to a full four two right, But I don't
- 47:57Speaker 9: think they're just gonna sit there and say come at us.
- 48:00Speaker 9: They're gonna try to find you know, their moments. And
- 48:04Speaker 9: that's what you're seeing with all the teams now. And
- 48:06Speaker 9: you know they've got Zecho, I mean, you know, one
- 48:09Speaker 9: of the old forty years old. But to your point
- 48:12Speaker 9: what you said at the opening here is that they've
- 48:15Speaker 9: battle tested, yep, you know, to beat Italy, you know,
- 48:18Speaker 9: one of the former blue bloods. I mean, they they
- 48:20Speaker 9: know how to be intense game. So they are going
- 48:23Speaker 9: to try to slow the game down basketball. You're playing
- 48:26Speaker 9: a you know, fast breaking team.
- 48:28Speaker 2: What are you gonna do.
- 48:29Speaker 9: You're gonna try to box out and this time that
- 48:32Speaker 9: is get the shots and then slow the game down.
- 48:35Speaker 1: That's the voice of mos Vita Marrer. He's from Cascadia
- 48:38Speaker 1: Sports Net and Fox thirteen Seattle Sports World Cup television
- 48:41Speaker 1: analysts joining us from Jimmy's on First right across street
- 48:43Speaker 1: from Livingfield where Senegal and Belgium will play at one o'clock.
- 48:47Speaker 1: The United States and her Bosnia hurst Coovina in Santa
- 48:49Speaker 1: Clair at five o'clock. The winners of those two matches
- 48:51Speaker 1: will play Monday here in Seattle at five o'clock in
- 48:54Speaker 1: the round of sixteen. Health Wise, Austin Trusty, you scored
- 48:59Speaker 1: twice in this World Cup already. He was back off
- 49:01Speaker 1: his ankle in joy for the United States practicing yesterday
- 49:04Speaker 1: in training down in the Bay Area. They're practicing at
- 49:06Speaker 1: the San Jose Earthquakes Facility down in San Jose. Christ
- 49:10Speaker 1: and Roldan. He remains in modify less than full workouts.
- 49:13Speaker 1: The sounder is not it looks like he's not going
- 49:16Speaker 1: to play tonight. He's had a quadricep issue since he
- 49:18Speaker 1: got it in training at udub on June eighteenth, the
- 49:21Speaker 1: day before the US played Australia here in Seattle. That's
- 49:23Speaker 1: why he didn't appear in that homecoming game when it
- 49:26Speaker 1: looked like he would. I talked to him after the match.
- 49:29Speaker 1: He was disappointed, and he has yet to play. He said,
- 49:31Speaker 1: I'm when I'm gonna be ready when my numbers called,
- 49:34Speaker 1: But his number may not be called because this quadricep
- 49:36Speaker 1: issue that still hasn't limited in practice. He's yet to
- 49:39Speaker 1: play in this World Cup. Nomeral, Dan as you do,
- 49:42Speaker 1: Dan as you do. How disappointing is this? He seemed
- 49:45Speaker 1: disappointed to me when I talked about it. But Tyler
- 49:48Speaker 1: Adams is really good in the position that he often plays.
- 49:52Speaker 9: No, absolutely, I mean he absolutely in terms of Tyler
- 49:56Speaker 9: Adams playing that position, that ability to kind of hold
- 49:59Speaker 9: the the midfield and transition with Christian Maddan having you
- 50:04Speaker 9: know known him since you know U dubbed, you know
- 50:06Speaker 9: we all cover him. He's disappointed for self, but he
- 50:10Speaker 9: understands that this is bigger than him and at quadricept
- 50:14Speaker 9: is one of the worst injuries to get because the
- 50:17Speaker 9: biggest muscle of the leg right and it takes time
- 50:21Speaker 9: and you can't really rush it because any movement, right,
- 50:24Speaker 9: you can't sit, you can't walk, you can't you can't
- 50:26Speaker 9: even go to the toilet without using the quadrcet right right.
- 50:29Speaker 9: So I mean it's I know he's disappointed, he gets it,
- 50:33Speaker 9: but like all players now, he's willing to go whatever
- 50:37Speaker 9: it takes for me to help the team, whether that's video,
- 50:40Speaker 9: whether that's walkthroughs or whatnot.
- 50:42Speaker 2: So yeah, he's this one for himself, but he gets
- 50:45Speaker 2: the bigger picture here.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Bosnian and Hrstgovina has a coach, Saturday Barbarez. He has
- 50:50Speaker 1: played in two World Series of Poker finals. He's a
- 50:52Speaker 1: pro poker player. He took over the national team coach
- 50:56Speaker 1: at Bosnia Herdsgovina in twenty twenty four. This is his
- 50:59Speaker 1: first manager. He's leading his country to its first World
- 51:02Speaker 1: Cup appearance in twelve years. Tonight reportedly is going to
- 51:07Speaker 1: be the most legally bet on US World Cup match ever.
- 51:12Speaker 1: In this World Cup, it's already exceeding what the bookmakers
- 51:15Speaker 1: thought they'd make on World Cup betting. They're saying this
- 51:18Speaker 1: could be the most bet on sports event in this
- 51:20Speaker 1: year anywhere, more than March Madness, of course, more than
- 51:24Speaker 1: Super Bowl because Super Bowl is just a one day,
- 51:26Speaker 1: one game event, but because this is lasting for a month,
- 51:30Speaker 1: that this will may be the most bet on sports
- 51:32Speaker 1: event in the entire world all season. Masrite, You've grown
- 51:36Speaker 1: up in soccer of the Zimbabwean di vent. You played
- 51:40Speaker 1: for Roosevelt High School. You still coach middle school soccer
- 51:44Speaker 1: here in Seattle. We you and myself through my kids,
- 51:49Speaker 1: we have appreciated soccer, watched a ton of it. But
- 51:52Speaker 1: what has this World Cup done for the average sports
- 51:54Speaker 1: fan or the guy walk out walking down the street,
- 51:56Speaker 1: and people that are massive in sports bars and normally
- 51:58Speaker 1: wouldn't be massing in sport is in June and July watching.
- 52:01Speaker 9: Soccer off the field. It's shown kind of the nationalism
- 52:06Speaker 9: and the culture of soccer. I think on the field too, right,
- 52:11Speaker 9: Like if you're at the game, you can really see
- 52:13Speaker 9: the athleticism of the soccer players, and if you're watching
- 52:16Speaker 9: it on TV, I think you also understand kind of
- 52:20Speaker 9: the intricacies of the game, you know.
- 52:22Speaker 2: I mean, like you know people in.
- 52:23Speaker 9: Baseball, some will go well just zero zero, but once
- 52:27Speaker 9: you kind of understand the pitching and the bullpen matches,
- 52:30Speaker 9: if you will, and all those things, and in soccer.
- 52:33Speaker 9: I think you understand the strategy, but the physicality that
- 52:37Speaker 9: goes into soccer.
- 52:38Speaker 1: And the and the athleticism, and I mean to says
- 52:41Speaker 1: we saw Dr Congo's goalie making the keeper was making
- 52:45Speaker 1: in the first and second halves of that match. By
- 52:47Speaker 1: the way, it did end two one England. Harry Kane's
- 52:50Speaker 1: probably getting knighted in the changing room right now for
- 52:53Speaker 1: what he did. Two goals save the tweed, two goals
- 52:56Speaker 1: all eighty plus minutes of the match to win and
- 53:00Speaker 1: England from what would have been an absolutely humiliating and
- 53:03Speaker 1: upset to Congo. England to Congo win. That means England
- 53:07Speaker 1: and Mexico will play Sunday in Mexico City as Stadio Steca,
- 53:11Speaker 1: which is going to be a wild, wild scene there
- 53:13Speaker 1: with one hundred thousand people. I don't know if you
- 53:15Speaker 1: saw the scenes last night in Mexico City and the
- 53:17Speaker 1: Independence Guaza with the fireworks, and it looked.
- 53:20Speaker 2: Like millions of people who are on the streets.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Three people suffocated and died from the massive people that
- 53:26Speaker 1: were pushing in which how crazy that scene was last night,
- 53:29Speaker 1: and it's going to be even more crazy Mexico.
- 53:31Speaker 2: Mexico and England on Sunday. Who can beat France?
- 53:36Speaker 1: What does this tournament look like in a bigger picture
- 53:38Speaker 1: now with the United States and Mexico both trying to
- 53:41Speaker 1: in Canada in the round of sixteen already, who is
- 53:45Speaker 1: challenging France. Argentina's on the opposite side of the bracket
- 53:48Speaker 1: from France that's lining up. It could be messy against
- 53:51Speaker 1: Mbape for the final July nineteenth in the East Rutherford,
- 53:54Speaker 1: New Jersey. Again, it should be in Seattle. I've been
- 53:56Speaker 1: told by soccer people in New York the wor up
- 53:58Speaker 1: finals should be in Seattle. But France looks unbeatable. Three
- 54:03Speaker 1: and nothing yesterday on Sweden, which I know is not
- 54:07Speaker 1: a top flight team, but in Bape with two more goals.
- 54:09Speaker 1: Alise is tremendous. Every time I watch France, Elise just
- 54:12Speaker 1: controls the game with how smooth and how fast he
- 54:15Speaker 1: is and technical he is. You see anybody but France,
- 54:19Speaker 1: maybe Argentina.
- 54:22Speaker 9: I you know, I think that the odds on you know,
- 54:26Speaker 9: favorite in terms of you know, rematch of the last time.
- 54:28Speaker 9: I think Spain is in the bracket there, so there
- 54:31Speaker 9: is a chance. I just don't see. I don't think
- 54:33Speaker 9: Portugal Portugal has the midfield, but I don't know if
- 54:37Speaker 9: they have what it's going to take defensively, And I
- 54:43Speaker 9: would say, you know, you just gotta go with France
- 54:46Speaker 9: all the way here. I mean, you know, the Paraguay
- 54:49Speaker 9: j Paraguay France. The next game, does Morocco beat Canada
- 54:54Speaker 9: and then maybe something No to your point, at least
- 54:57Speaker 9: almost had that bicycle kid. Yes he did, right, speaking
- 55:00Speaker 9: of athleticism, that would have been just like forever and
- 55:03Speaker 9: that's okay, that would have been on there. But but
- 55:06Speaker 9: I think people forget that France can also play defense.
- 55:09Speaker 9: Tiaron Ree was they asked him a little bit about
- 55:12Speaker 9: and he's so wonderful where he was like somebody.
- 55:14Speaker 2: I think Rebecca.
- 55:17Speaker 9: Well asked him, you know, which is the best team
- 55:19Speaker 9: and he said, I can't compare from the time they
- 55:21Speaker 9: won because they also, you know, I mean they had
- 55:25Speaker 9: mess I say, I mean they had these defenders.
- 55:28Speaker 2: France can play defense.
- 55:29Speaker 9: That's what I think really people don't understand in the
- 55:32Speaker 9: midfield again, their ability to geometry, the ability to just
- 55:37Speaker 9: it's a geometry game for them and at least gets
- 55:40Speaker 9: that same thing as Messi. But Messi just doesn't have
- 55:44Speaker 9: If you say, right, let's take out Messi from the out,
- 55:47Speaker 9: push him out there and have him try to come in.
- 55:50Speaker 9: And the reason is that way we have more defenders.
- 55:53Speaker 9: He'll still be able to do that. But now if
- 55:55Speaker 9: you can cut off the supply line, right, you need
- 55:58Speaker 9: another four or five players.
- 56:00Speaker 2: To help with that. France has that and nobody else
- 56:03Speaker 2: I can see.
- 56:04Speaker 9: Let's say, you know, Buppe is off, you know what
- 56:07Speaker 9: I'm saying, and they have five or six other players
- 56:10Speaker 9: that can are that can make that can change the game.
- 56:15Speaker 1: The United States path if you want to dream large
- 56:18Speaker 1: of getting to the semifinals and finals of the World Cup,
- 56:21Speaker 1: which they've never been, never winning multiple knockout stage games.
- 56:25Speaker 1: Remember they finished third in the nineteen thirty World Cup.
- 56:27Speaker 1: I think there are eight teams then the very first
- 56:29Speaker 1: World Right, this is their path. They've got Bosnia hers
- 56:34Speaker 1: Goving to tonight. The United States would then play, if
- 56:36Speaker 1: they win tonight, the winner this Belgium Senegal match on
- 56:38Speaker 1: Monday in Seattle. If they won that, most likely Spain
- 56:42Speaker 1: in the quarterfinals. They've ever gotten past the quarterfinals to
- 56:45Speaker 1: the semifinal. France, if they would beat France somehow like
- 56:50Speaker 1: if France got locked in the locker room. Then Argentina
- 56:54Speaker 1: would be there. If the favorites went out, that's their
- 56:57Speaker 1: path Bosnia, Belgium or Senegal, Spain, France, Argentina for the
- 57:03Speaker 1: US to win it all?
- 57:04Speaker 2: How far do the US get? I give them a
- 57:08Speaker 2: real good chance that they they can go toe to
- 57:12Speaker 2: toe with Spain. Really, Yeah, who's going to cover your mall?
- 57:17Speaker 9: Everybody in the kitchen sink, the bathroom sink. No, you
- 57:22Speaker 9: know why it might how does it not work is
- 57:26Speaker 9: just because the goalkeeping. I also may be they're too slow.
- 57:30Speaker 9: We've talked about this just in terms of the you know,
- 57:33Speaker 9: the center backs. I think that that that's the issue.
- 57:36Speaker 9: But look, the one thing about the United States that's
- 57:38Speaker 9: real is their speed. Yeah, you know, they're as fast
- 57:43Speaker 9: as anybody. Their creativity. I would give them an age Okay,
- 57:47Speaker 9: well seven point five.
- 57:49Speaker 2: I think baber guns probably six of that's seven point five.
- 57:52Speaker 9: Right, because if we say France is ten, right, and
- 57:55Speaker 9: then the United States is probably seven, and then you're
- 57:58Speaker 9: saying that MESSI is again, it's ten. It doesn't have
- 58:00Speaker 9: enough play. So I mean they can if everything is there,
- 58:04Speaker 9: but they just don't have the link up from the
- 58:09Speaker 9: three you know the three lines thinking all at the
- 58:13Speaker 9: same time to be able to beat a team like
- 58:15Speaker 9: Spain if you face adversity.
- 58:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you.
- 58:18Speaker 9: Never know, right, I mean I think if you get
- 58:21Speaker 9: that's the thing about soccer, and that's what you're watching
- 58:23Speaker 9: now right, Like you're seeing some of these teams like Senegal,
- 58:27Speaker 9: they get an early lead, I mean the DRC. I
- 58:29Speaker 9: don't why I keep thinking Senegal. But the thing is
- 58:31Speaker 9: in a soccer game, anything can happen early. Those first
- 58:34Speaker 9: fifteen to twenty minutes a critical So if you can
- 58:37Speaker 9: bunk it down a little bit and who knows, a
- 58:39Speaker 9: corner kick, a handball, something like that. But now you
- 58:44Speaker 9: can see how well the team can do against adversity.
- 58:46Speaker 2: That's mis Vietnamar. Thanks for joining us for a couple session.
- 58:50Speaker 1: I can go eat and hang out before you go
- 58:52Speaker 1: into your match or a Jimmy's on first at the
- 58:54Speaker 1: Silver Cloud Hotel right across the street from Liomenfield, where
- 58:57Speaker 1: Belgium and Senegal will play in the round of thirty
- 59:00Speaker 1: to here in Seattle. The winner will play the winner
- 59:02Speaker 1: of the United States in bosnant Herzgovina, which is five
- 59:05Speaker 1: o'clock in Santa Clara today. You can hear that match

- 1:00:41Speaker 10: Hi, listening to you broadcast about Children's hospital.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: And they do rock.
- 1:00:47Speaker 10: I mean, they're fantastic. I've spent many many visits day
- 1:00:51Speaker 10: with my son for many many cluff flip surgeries, and
- 1:00:56Speaker 10: I can only imagine that something.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: Like this would be so uplifting for the kids.
- 1:01:02Speaker 10: We didn't have we didn't experience anything like this, but
- 1:01:05Speaker 10: we were there during Christmas when they walked around handing
- 1:01:08Speaker 10: out gifts of kids.
- 1:01:09Speaker 11: It shifts, Hey, Jerry Dempodo here.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: We'll get to Jerry after that, because that was a
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: very heartfelt, very very heartfelts talk back.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I appreciate and thank you obviously for the talk
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: back and the sharing of that. And again, it's a
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: tough deal if you got a child in Children's Hospital
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: in Seattle, but we are blessed in this community to
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: have a facility like that, and the experts and world
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: class treatment of some pretty heavy duty stuff that goes
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: on in there, and the patients and the families that
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: are in there, and the Ronald McDonald house across standpoint
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: way from the hospital, and the parents who stayed there
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: for a long, long stretches of time for free, all
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: from donations and philanthropic fundraising.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: It's the foundation that they have there, then the money
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: that's raised for the causes there.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: It's incredible and the impact of any athlete the University
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: of Washington is really good at this to just go
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: up the street and maybe it's six from the women's
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: soccer team or Heather Tar's softball team. When I was
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: working at the University of Washington, I saw that all
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: the time. And maybe those college kids don't understand just
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: going for an hour or two of what it does
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: to those families and those children and even the staff there.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: And this is all in the context of Brian Wu.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: Of course, if you missed it earlier. Last night, he
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: had a reverse autograph signing for Children's Hospital, kids.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: Going to T Mobile Park and Brian Wu.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: On the day he pitched, which is a superstitious day
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: in Major League Baseball and all Pro Baseball that you
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: don't talk to the starting pitcher of the day he pitched,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: He hosted these kids and traded autographs with him at
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: the park yesterday, then went out and threw a shoutout
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: into the seventh inning against the Los Angeles Angels. So
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: thank you for the talkback, your heartfelt feelings about that.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: And I know what you're talking about it. I've lived
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: it with my own children and with my wife living there.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: So hats off to everybody around the Children's Hospital communion,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: those who give their time and money to it.
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: Agreed, all right, let's move on.
- 1:03:13Speaker 11: Hey Jerry Depoto here, Well, another another win last night
- 1:03:18Speaker 11: gets us closer to that fifty four percent threshold. And
- 1:03:21Speaker 11: the fan base, you know, we're doing them a favor.
- 1:03:24Speaker 10: They should thank me.
- 1:03:25Speaker 11: I played rucker last night and shut out eighth any
- 1:03:28Speaker 11: I tightened the puppet strings for Dan Wilson. He listens
- 1:03:31Speaker 11: to what I say or I get out the paddle,
- 1:03:33Speaker 11: and the fan base better be thinking me. I'm the
- 1:03:36Speaker 11: greatest GM alive and Rob Ruschneider will be back soon.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: He is the savior.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: At six point two five million dollars. Thank you, Joel,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: not Jerry to Potto, thank you Joel.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: Appreciate that. Here's another one.
- 1:03:52Speaker 11: I did right, all right, Dag Maller here, Greg Bell,
- 1:03:55Speaker 11: how you doing there, baby, I'll just watching the world
- 1:03:58Speaker 11: cop here.
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I don't know. It's hard under
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: his stand.
- 1:04:01Speaker 11: They'll stop in time in soccer, or they'll take you
- 1:04:03Speaker 11: back the marrors you're doing, baby, I'm down here freaking Motlake.
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: Oh my way to Jimmy's.
- 1:04:07Speaker 11: You better be out of my seat, pal, I don't
- 1:04:09Speaker 11: know what you think's.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: Going on here.
- 1:04:11Speaker 11: That's the Maller Cafe.
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: Baby.
- 1:04:13Speaker 9: Anyway, Go Usa, Go Dogs, go Hawks.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: And I hold it. Go Greg Bell, Baby, appreciate that.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: Thanks Dave. Yeah, it sounds loud like Dave Maler at
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: ten or eleven am. Thank you for that.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: At the talkback, you go to the iHeartRadio app. There's
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: a red button at the bottom of it and you
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: can leave a thirty second voicemail. Jessamin McIntyre is the
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: queen of that. You happy to colllect? Goes and play
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: it back. On the text line, the two O six
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: is asking me have I seen what's currently going on
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: in New York City at the Empire State Building at
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: two five three Actually from Pierce County area. Yogi, bow,
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: you see the couple on top of the Empire State Building.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: Craziest thing I've ever seen. There are two people. Have
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: you seen this, Jessamond? Right right now as we speak,
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: there people on top of the spire, which is on
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: top of the Empire State Building. Somehow, I don't know
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: how they climbed. First of all, you can't climb usually
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: of the observation deck. But then about the observation deck
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: is the top of the spire, and about the top
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: of the spire there's some radio towers and all kinds
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: of metal there at the top of that, and there
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: are thrones and helicopters flying over the Empire State Building
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: filming these two people that are at the very very
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: tippy tippy top of the Empire State Building. I think
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: it's like eighteen hundred feet off the ground, maybe more
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: than that. Yeah, that's yeah, that's lining Jeremy from the
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: four two five. I hope Softy isn't listening because he
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: would lose it. About how many times Greg has said
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: lumen Field instead of Seattle Stadium.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: I hope that's a joke.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: FIFA has mandated that all the stadiums be called by
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: just their city designation and stadium. Dallas Stadium, for instance,
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: is actually at and T Stadium Jerry's World in Arlington, Texas,
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: not even in Dallas. The stadium in the United States
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: in the night Posneyhurst Covina US match at five o'clock,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: it's Levi Stadium. We all know it as a Seahawks
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: wanted there in the super Bowl in February. Well, it's
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: known as San Francisco Stadium, even it's like an hour
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: and a half from San Francisco. So yes, FIFA wants
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: us to call it Seattle Stadium. Nobody listening to this
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: radio station knows it as anything other than Luminfield.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: I mean it's more for the international travels travelers who
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: aren't familiar and the.
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: Fact that Luman didn't pay FIFA exactly right money.
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: That's actually what it comes down to.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Fortune five said it's like talking to the Soup Nazi
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: on starting Pitcher Day from Seinfield thing. Yes, for five,
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: we did see, and we did mention, did you guys
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: see the cleats too from Brian lou that he wore
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: last night The kids from Seattle Children's Hospital painted as
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: cleats and he wore them last night.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: So awesome. We did see that. Yes, that's uh yeah.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: I can't say enough good things about what Brian Flu
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: did on a pitching day.
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: Shout out to Ashley's friend too, you know her her
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: friend's daughter, Charlotte, who was one of the ones who
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: painted one of the pairents of the fleets. That's pretty special.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: And she said it was just so uplifting for the
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: kids to present them to him.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: That's the thing, the effect that had. Now, those kids
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: will talk about that the rest of their lives. They're
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: not going to talk about, oh, I was in children's
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: hospital for X number of weeks or months.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: Or they're going to talk about the time that Brian
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: Wu wore my shoes And yeah, I mean that's that's
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: the effect for sure.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that's really cool. It certainly is. And she's from
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: the two fights. I'm sorry, go ahead, No.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: I was just going to say, as you said, he
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: broke the cardinal superstition rule if you want, if you
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: want to say that by actually talking to people and
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: identity he was pitching and it didn't matter.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: Right. Are you a spinal tap fan, Jessamine?
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: I have watched it, but years and years ago.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: My wife loves spinal tip. I don't get in it
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: here as much as she does.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: The two O six says, I hope Jess realizes she's
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: currently an equivalent of the drummers.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: Eat for spinal tap.
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: Remind me of what that is.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: Well, it rotates quite a bit, That's what I.
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: Thought, That's what I was getting at. I was like,
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure I recall that there's a reason it rotates.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: It's not good. But well, thanks, she's alive and well
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: thanks two six.
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I will drum away while I'm here.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: She's alive and well.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: No thinking to Christopher Kidd. We talked about that earlier
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: this week. Yess, he'd no longer here, I heart no
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: longer employed by I heart nothing he did. It is
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: the cost cutting move in the Seattle market with a
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: producer slot. And that's what happened. Those of you never
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: been asking, that's what happened. Fortune five s It's so
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: good to hear Dave Softy Ball and the talkbacks again
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: laugh out loud thanks to Joel.
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: He did that with your show all the time, yours
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: in I Yeah, we're gonna have to have him continue
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: to go to Ian for that because he is an
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: Ian staple there, So Joel, save it for Ian's show.
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: I know I love having it on here, but that
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: is definitely an Ian thing, So thank you, Joel. Though
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: you can send in different I think that Joel can
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: bring a different life to this show.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: Four five asked me, Greg, do you have a nickname
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: for the Angels like you do for us to a
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: k the trash Can that's my buddy from the US
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: Coast Guard and Oate High school grad. I don't because
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: to me, I don't hate the Angels nearly as much
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: or at all compared to the trash Cans. I mean,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: the trash Cans just thought out, stole a world series,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: cheated banging on trash. For those you who don't know
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: why I call them the trash Cans should.
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: Be pro Come on, everybody knows that story.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: Yes, they actually got away with cheating on stealing signs
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: and banging on trash cans.
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: When there's certain pitch of fastballs were banging on trash cans.
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: And John Boy broke it and he was like this,
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: like mega lip reader pays attention to every little detail
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: that's going on, and he noticed it.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: And Baseball didn't do anything about it didn't strip titles.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: They they won the World Series, beat the Dodge. Dodger fans,
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: as great as they've been recently, still mad about the
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: World Series cheated out of them. I mean, teams still signs, yes,
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: But the Trash Games did it so overtly.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: That there will always be the trash cans.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: To me, yeah, I wish you could bring trash cans
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: in the team mobile park because I would do that
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: when the trash Cans played the Mariners.
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: Well, you know that reminds me of Japan's not trash cans,
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: but Japan's tradition of cleaning up after themselves after a
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: World Cup match.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: And I just have to say how much I respect
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: their respect for the stadiums here. It is.
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: It's just not like America.
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: I could just say that I've been to several stadiums
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: after the fact and it is not Spickens Van.
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: You know who else does that is the Army And
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: oh yeah, I believe that. I learned that at West Point.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: The Army football team is famous for that.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: They played Oklahoma a few years ago and they went
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: into owen Field and left it cleaner than you found it.
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: And that's the Army standard cleaner than you found it.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: When I coached high school baseball, the varsity baseball team
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: cleaner than we found it, dugouts, ferries, dairy, Queen's ease,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: El's clean we found it.
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: Well, you're representing more than just yourself in that situation, exactly.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: And yeah, that was one of the Army ethos that
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: stuck with me from being an Army officer. But yeah, Japan,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: that's yet again, that's just another example of the World Cup.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: There are scenes from Atlanta just a few minutes ago
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: of the England players walking over to the lion right
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: behind the goal to the English fans and one end
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Zon there in Atlanta and singing Wonderwall from Oasis at
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: the top of their loans after they run in advance
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: to the next round of the World Cup, just in
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: full chorus. And you watch the World Cup matches and
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: both teams are on the field belting out their national anthems,
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: screaming up on the top of their loans.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: And that's the World Cup. That's what it is.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: Those of us that are enthralled in the coverage of that.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: The World Cup is back in Seattle today. There are
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: people are walking right past me here on Jimmy on
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: first down Occidental Avenue into Lumenfield slash Seattle Stadium with
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: people wants us to call it for Belgium and Senegal.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: That match begins at one.
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: There are people all over the place, including people right
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: around me here, and Jimmy's wearing the US Stars and
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: Stripes team jersey because the US is playing today two
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: at five o'clock in Santa Clara against Bosnian Music and again.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: The winners of those two matches will play Monday five
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: pm here in Seattle in the round of sixteen for
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: a shot in the quarterfinals, something the United States just
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: doesn't do. But Canada's in the round of sixteen, Mexico's
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: in the round of sixteen playing England on Sunday in
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Mexico City. The United States will try to do that
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: today in Santa Clara, starting at five o'clock. Up next,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Ian Fernaz, the mayor Maple Valley. I think he's probably
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: back in the Elliot Bay studios by now. He's gonna
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: tell us what he has going on to his show.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: Next.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: We'll talk to him a little footy as well about
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: England's escape against Congo. Just a few minutes ago. That's next.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: On ninety three FTY three KJRFM, Welcome back Greg Bell,
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: Justin McIntyre. Would you met Jimmy's on first right across
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: the street from Lumenfield with Bosnia. The text line two
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: oh six said, please pronounce this is all calves. By
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: the way, please pronounce Bosnia correctly. It's killing this Balkan brother. Bosnia,
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: not Bosnia. The O is pronounced oh at, not ah.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: It's so American and it's brutal.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: Okay, well there you go. I guess I'm not the
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: only one, but Bosnia. Yeah.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: I think there's a lot of different Like Turkey is
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: Turkey A yeah, there's a lot of different ones.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: Depending on where you're from and what country you're front
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: and what language you speak.
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: Yes, exactly.
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: I mean we have obviously different accents within this country.
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: And I'll say, like when I came here, I was
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: saying gone. I fixed that pretty quickly.
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: By war.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: On the text line three six, I asked, do you
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: guys eat peanuts at the ballpark and leave the shells
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: on the ground or do you put them in a bag?
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: Love the show, I do put them in a bag.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: I do clean up my shells. Do I pick up
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: all and that.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: The other night, I was at t Mobile Park watching
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: the Mariners, and I cleaned up the cups and the
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: peanuts shells. I did this very thing, and the usher
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: said thank you. I just walk it out. When she
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: saw me putting it into the containing the trash containers
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: and the recycling continent, she said thank you. She said no,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: she said, you'd be surprised. How nobody does I said no,
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: I would not be surprised. How nobody does that? He
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: and fored US's taping an interview. So what she got
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: on tap? I heard you had Bertie that Telga. Maybe
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: Andrews perhaps told you.
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: What's there guy?
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: Yeah, we got some really great guess.
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: Pete Hewing, who is an analyst on all of our
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: Wororld Cup coverage, obviously legendary coach in the area and
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: just a great personality to have on the air. He's
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: coming up at two twenty twelve, sorry twelve twenty. And
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: then John Canzano, the PAC twelve expert with the latest.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: Obviously we know Teresa Gould is giving her press conference
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: about the new PAC twelve today, so he'll have all
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: the insight and everything that's going on with the future.
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: Of the conference, which obviously means a lot to me.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: Yes, it does. Yes, travel includes Boise and in Utah,
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: and it's.
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: A heck a b lot better than last year from
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: a travel perspective. The stadiums were amazing, and I'm not
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: complaining about that, but getting there was quite the effort.
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: You were at James Madison, James.
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: Madison, Oh no, no, note Northern Texas, University of North
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: Texas and then uh no, not Texas, noth Yeah, didn't
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: and no, so we went to Virginia UVA.
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: James Madison and Ole Miss were our loan travels. And now,
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: if there were direct flights, that's one thing. But you know,
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: you're you're flying for four hours, then you're driving for two,
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: and you know there's connecting flights all in between, and
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: you know, sometimes if you are just a hair late,
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: things change, and I get tribal anxiety.
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: When that happens. I don't like it when things change.
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: But anyway, that's not a complaint about the beautiful stadiums
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: that we saw. Each environment on its own was absolutely fantastic.
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: I friends the coach at all the different schools. However, yeah,
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: this year, I'm a little bit. I'm more excited that
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: we have a nine team conference moving forward.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: Exactly, and that's instead of limbo. Washington State and Oregon
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: State now have a home at least the reborn PAC twelve,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: who to announced this week that they are going to
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: have a basketball tournament similar to the West Coast Conference.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: That are where the first top four seats will get
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: first and second round buys. Of course, Gonzaga is used
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: to that they're gonna be a basketball playing member in
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: the PAC twelve. I saw today as of July. First,
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: the new PAC twelve beginning in July. First that Poise State,
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: for instance, just painting the PAC twelve logo on their
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: field and that believe it's the same logo that it
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: was before with the combination.
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: Yeah, they haven't changed the surf in the Mountain.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: Yeah, they're trying to just pick up where they left
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: off with all new teams other than Washington State and
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: Oregon State. So interesting times. They've got a television contract
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: which helps. We'll see what they do and there'll be
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: a player in the College Football Playoff. If you win
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: the league, you will be considered as one of the
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: group of six outside the Power four conferences. For a playoff,
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: and that's an attractive piece to the new league as well.
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: Yeah, last year was we were homeless essentially, So that
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: was just it was really interesting. And I give a
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: ton of credit to Washington State for building a schedule.
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: Do you understand how difficult that is?
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: No, it is unbelievable, and how hard they played these
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: top ranked teams.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it easily beaten the Mississippi.
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: And yes, yes, yeah, and Uba we were in the
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: game the whole time too. All three of those were
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: unbelievable games.
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: Right, it was a safety that doomed you against Virginia.
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: If I remember you had you were winning the game.
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: I believe was that Virginia or Old Miss?
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: Because Ole Miss you had them beat those are two Yeah,
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: Old Miss and.
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin's Old Miss too. Yeah, that smug face. I
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: just wanted to wipe it off of his head.
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: I will say. Oxford, Mississippi, is a great college town.
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: Oh my gosh. I went to the Grove. It was amazing.
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: It was just like the atmosphere is second to none.
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: It is.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: I spent a week there at the NCA Basketball NCA
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: Baseball tournament with the University of Washington, and it has
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: its history, yes, and not all of the good, but
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: the Oxford campus, the facilities they have there and the
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: people were great to us. And at the University of
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: Washington that year that we were playing in the regional
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: in Oxford.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: So we won't have Oxford this year on the schedule.
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: You have Ogden in Utah, Utah State. Things like that.
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: I mean, I like Utah. Every time I've been there,
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: I've had a really good time. Exactly beautiful.
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: Thanks for listening.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: I'm going to head across the stadium and watch Belgium
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: and Senegal play and then hopefully get out of there
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: done writing in time to watch the United States start
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: at five o'clock against Bosnia Herzgovina.
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: One of our listeners, it's just It's called hot.
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: Thanks to mas Vita Mareer of Kai Skadi sports Net
