- 0:00Welcome back to Fostering Faith. I will be your
- 0:01host Tracy and we are walking into freedom and
- 0:05healing this July. And so welcome to July on
- 0:09Fostering Faith. And this month we're going to
- 0:10be stepping into freedom. Jesus died to give
- 0:13you. And so whether it's emotional wounds, past
- 0:16pain, fear, shame or strongholds, God wants you
- 0:20healed, whole and free. And this month we're
- 0:23going to tap into some biblically healing. releasing
- 0:26from those past pains and living fully alive
- 0:29in Christ and our anchor verse is going to be
- 0:31John 8 36. So if the sun sets you free, you are
- 0:36truly free. And so as we are going to go into
- 0:39this episode of July, I am actually sitting on
- 0:42my back deck recording this episode in the start
- 0:46of July. It is beautiful outside. I am looking
- 0:49at my frozen pool and the husband is gone. G
- 0:53is out of friends. And so we have the house to
- 0:55ourselves. And so it's nice and quiet. So we
- 0:57are going to record some podcasts. And so healing
- 1:00from past wounds and the moments in life that
- 1:03shape us and the wounds in life that shake us.
- 1:05Some wounds are loud, betrayal, heartbreak, abandonment,
- 1:10humiliation, trauma. Some wounds are quiet, disappointment,
- 1:15neglect, emotional distance, unspoken expectations,
- 1:19words that cut deeper than they should. And some
- 1:22wounds are old, childhood wounds, family patterns,
- 1:26things spoken over you that should have never
- 1:28been said. Some wounds are recent, breakups,
- 1:33church hurt, friendship loss, Rejection. Failure.
- 1:38Unexpected changes. But Proverbs teaches us something
- 1:41profound. Unhealed wounds make foolish choices.
- 1:45And healed hearts make wise ones. And this month
- 1:49is all about freedom and healing. And today we're
- 1:51going to be walking straight into something most
- 1:53people spend years avoiding. Your heart. Your
- 1:58hurt. Your wounds. Your story. And not to reopen
- 2:04pain. but to let God finally restore what life
- 2:08broke. And because here's the truth, God can't
- 2:12heal what you hide. He heals what you bring to
- 2:15him. Your past can shape you, but it doesn't
- 2:18have to define you. And so Proverbs 4 .23 says,
- 2:22above all else, guard your heart for everything
- 2:25flows through it. Everything you do, your relationships,
- 2:29your reactions, your expectations, confidence,
- 2:33boundaries, Identity flow from your heart. If
- 2:37your heart is wounded, your life will leak pain.
- 2:40And if your heart is healed, your life will release
- 2:44strength. Your past explains you, but it does
- 2:49not own you. It may influence your story, but
- 2:54it's not the author of your future. Here are
- 2:59three types of wounds people can carry. And this
- 3:01is not all encompassing, it's just three. Wounds
- 3:05of commission, things done to you. These are
- 3:10hurts someone else caused, betrayal, rejection,
- 3:13abuse, manipulation, abandonment, emotional neglect,
- 3:19harsh words, and broken trust. These wounds tell
- 3:24you lies. You're not worthy. You're not lovable.
- 3:28You're not enough. You're too much. You don't
- 3:32matter. But God says the opposite. He says that
- 3:37you are enough. I do love you. You are enough.
- 3:42You are worthy. You're not too much. I made you
- 3:45just perfect. And you do matter. So we remember
- 3:48in past episodes, we have to say what the truths
- 3:51are and not what we say that we are. And so wounds
- 3:56of omission are things you need, but never got.
- 4:02And so those are not being protected, not being
- 4:07encouraged, not being seen, not being supported,
- 4:13not being nurtured, and not being valued. These
- 4:17wounds are the hardest to identify, but some
- 4:21are the deepest to heal. We have three self -inflicted
- 4:26wounds, things you regret, bad choices, bad decisions,
- 4:33people you hurt, patterns that you repeated over
- 4:37and over again, expecting it was going to be
- 4:40different, seasons you wasted, opportunities
- 4:44you sabotaged, shame attaches these wounds like
- 4:49a shadow. But listen, Jesus did not die so you
- 4:53could live chained to your regrets. He wants
- 4:56you healed the whole story and not just little
- 5:01parts. God cares about your heart more than your
- 5:05performance. Proverbs is full of verses about
- 5:08the inner life, the hidden parts that no one
- 5:10sees. The Lord weighs the heart. Proverbs 21
- 5:14to a peaceful heart gives life. Proverbs 1430.
- 5:19Hope deferred makes a heart sick. Proverbs 1312.
- 5:24Why? Because God knows. you look successful and
- 5:28still be wounded. Because God knows you can lead
- 5:32and still be bleeding. Because God knows you
- 5:35can function and still be fractured. God knows
- 5:39that you can smile and still be hurting. But
- 5:43God doesn't heal what you pretend isn't there.
- 5:45He heals what you surrender. And healing requires
- 5:50honesty. And some people aren't healed because
- 5:53God can't, not because God can't, because they
- 5:57won't be honest. And honest about how deeply
- 6:01it hurt, how long it shaped what the circumstances
- 6:06were, how much they've avoided it, how much it
- 6:09still lives in their reactions, and how they've
- 6:11learned to survival instead of healing. Wisdom
- 6:14begins with truth. Healing begins with honesty.
- 6:18And lies that you surround yourself with to make
- 6:23yourself feel better are not helping you. And
- 6:27so lies, wounds teach and truth that breaks them.
- 6:32And so I have to earn love, lie, truth. You are
- 6:39loved because of whose you are. People always
- 6:44leave, lie, truth. God never abandons his children.
- 6:51Three, I'll never be enough. Lie. Truth. You're
- 6:59chosen and equipped. I'm too broken. Truth. Broken
- 7:05pieces are what God shines the brightest. Like
- 7:09a diamond in the rough. My story disqualifies
- 7:14me. Lie. If you look at all the broken messed
- 7:17up people in scripture. I can guarantee it that
- 7:21you did nothing that they didn't do. Moses killed
- 7:24a guy. You had David who did adultery and killed
- 7:27a guy. You just time after time, there's so many
- 7:30people. And so the truth is, your story is the
- 7:34place where God reveals his truth. Jesus doesn't
- 7:37ignore wounds. He transforms them. And healing
- 7:42doesn't mean it didn't hurt. It means it no longer
- 7:45controls you. Healing is not pretending. are
- 7:49forgetting, minimizing, or ignoring, or suppressing.
- 7:53Healing is understanding, and processing, and
- 7:56releasing, forgiving, surrendering, reframing,
- 8:00and renewing. Healing doesn't ease the memory,
- 8:04it erases the sting. In four stages of God's
- 8:09healing, so I want you to write these down. One,
- 8:14recognition. These wounds, Wounded me. You can't
- 8:20heal what you don't acknowledge. Stop saying
- 8:23it wasn't a big deal. It was. That's why it still
- 8:27hurts. Recognize your feelings. And so we walk
- 8:32through this with teens and adults and you want
- 8:35to recognize it. And so by you living the lie,
- 8:37oh, it doesn't bother me. It doesn't bother me.
- 8:39That drives me insane. It does still bother you
- 8:41or you wouldn't be talking about it eight months
- 8:43later. No, it did bother you. You didn't walk
- 8:45through it. Two. Revelation. God, show me how
- 8:53this shaped me. Ask. How has this affected my
- 8:57relationships? My boundaries? My trust? My emotions?
- 9:02My reactions? My self -worth? Proverbs 25 says,
- 9:07the purpose of the perfun's heart are deep waters,
- 9:10but a person of understanding draws them out.
- 9:16Healing requires digging. You can't just look
- 9:20at the ground and just be like, oh, yeah, I'm
- 9:25just gonna let the grass grow over that. Well,
- 9:27you have a leak under your house. You gotta get
- 9:30to the root of the problem. You gotta do some
- 9:32digging and look up why you keep having relationships
- 9:35like that. You have to keep looking at why you
- 9:37crash out so much. You have to keep looking at,
- 9:39you have to dig deep and why is this, where is
- 9:41this root from? And once you find it, three,
- 9:47release it. Lord, I give this wound to you. This
- 9:52is where forgiveness lies. Not excusing what
- 9:55happened, not reconciling it with unsafe people,
- 9:59not minimizing it. Forgiveness, releasing their
- 10:03power over your story. When you release the wound,
- 10:08God releases healing. And whenever you have healing,
- 10:13You're are renewed and so for renewal God heal
- 10:18and reshape my heart This is the supernatural
- 10:21part God restores identity trust joy peace confidence
- 10:29hope purpose Healing isn't a behavior modification.
- 10:34It's a heart transformation and we said that
- 10:37before on this podcast It's about after you leave
- 10:40Jesus's presence It's about the transformation
- 10:44that happened on the inside and the enemy wants
- 10:47your wounds to remain open because unhealing
- 10:51wounds leave to distorted identity, fuel insecurity,
- 10:56sabotage relationships, create triggers, feed
- 10:59lies, block intimacy with God and keep you reactive
- 11:04and produce fear and prevent growth. Healing
- 11:08makes you spiritually dangerous. And a healed
- 11:12believer is harder to lie to, manipulate, tempt,
- 11:18shame, and derail. Which is really scary for
- 11:24Satan. Because once you know the truth, once
- 11:26you repeat that truth, once you believe it, and
- 11:28once you let go of what you've been holding onto,
- 11:33you're unstoppable. And so some practical steps
- 11:37to walk in healing. Journal your honesty. Pray
- 11:42specifically over those wounds. Talk to God and
- 11:45a mentor and a counselor. Memorize scripture
- 11:48that contradicts your wounds. Set boundaries
- 11:51with people who reopen those wounds. Say out
- 11:55loud what God says about you. Practice forgiveness
- 11:59daily. Encourage and engage in spiritual disciplines.
- 12:05Give God your triggers instead of reacting. And
- 12:09pay attention to your emotional patterns. Healing
- 12:11is not a one -time moment. It's a continuous
- 12:14invitation. And so as we've said every episode,
- 12:19we hope that you are turning into Fostering Faith
- 12:21Media. There is email setups. There is connection
- 12:24cards on there. And so as we have a new website,
- 12:28fosteringfaithmedia .com, we have workbook pages
- 12:32on there for you. Very simple, black and white,
- 12:34nothing fancy because I do not like to waste
- 12:36ink. And so in your workbook this week, it says,
- 12:39what wound from my past is God inviting me to
- 12:42heal? It may be words spoken over you, a friendship
- 12:47that broke you, church pain, church hurt, something
- 12:52that still makes you flinch, a loss that you
- 12:55never processed, a mistake that you're holding
- 12:58over yourself. God highlights what he intends
- 13:02to heal. And so sit with him. This you. pencil
- 13:06and paper, and so write one intentional healing
- 13:11step that you're willing to take this week. Forgive
- 13:14somebody, write a letter that you'll never send,
- 13:18talk to a mentor, pray over specific memories,
- 13:23create a boundary, replace one lie with one truth,
- 13:28and surrender the past regret. Healing happens
- 13:31one obedient step at a time. And so if this message
- 13:35encouraged you, we hope that you send it to a
- 13:38friend and walk through these lessons together,
- 13:41share it with a small group, write a comment,
- 13:44share us on social media. And so in that instant,
- 13:48we'd like to pray for you. Dear Heavenly Father,
- 13:50thank you so much for our healed hearts. Thank
- 13:53you that you're exposing every wound, every lie,
- 13:55every fear, every scar that will shape us. We
- 13:58fully surrender our past to you, our pains, our
- 14:01memories, the people, the moments that hurt us.
- 14:04Help us heal deeply, restore us fully, and renew
- 14:08us completely. Make me whole again, and so I
- 14:12can walk with you freely into my future. We pray
- 14:14all this in Jesus' name. Amen and amen. We are
- 14:18so happy that you guys tuned in this week. And
- 14:20as we stay tuned for next week, we are going
- 14:23to be talking about letting go of shame. So stay
- 14:26tuned for that one. We love you guys. Have a
- 14:27great week.
