Speaker 1: Hi, Ranger Reed here. And Ranger Brooke. Whoa! Look out,
• 0:05
Speaker 1: Ranger Reed. Welcome to Creation Nuggets. Follow us. The ranger
• 0:12
  Speaker 1: station's just ahead.
• 0:14
Speaker 2: Whoa! Whoa! Oh, good. Thanks for coming into Trekkers in
• 0:29
Speaker 2: the middle of the night. I promise you, Ranger Reed,
• 0:33
Speaker 2: you've never seen a bigger mosquito. It's gigantic.
• 0:39
Speaker 1: A mosquito the size of a plum? That sounds like
• 0:42
  Speaker 1: a record size.
• 0:44
  Speaker 2: I was working, but I can't work with such a
• 0:46
Speaker 2: bloodthirsty insect on the loose.
• 0:50
Speaker 1: Never fear, Mr. Simon. Your ranger is near.
• 0:53
Speaker 2: There it is, Ranger Reed. See it hitting the wall
• 0:55
Speaker 2: as it flies to the ceiling?
• 0:57
Speaker 1: Oh, you have a crane fly aboard. Some people call
• 1:01
  Speaker 1: them mosquito hawks.
• 1:03
Speaker 2: Oh, I like that name. Does it eat mosquitoes? Maybe
• 1:08
Speaker 2: I want it in Trekkers.
• 1:10
Speaker 1: These insects might look like a giant mosquito with their
• 1:12
Speaker 1: large wings and long, fragile legs, but they're harmless to
• 1:17
Speaker 1: humans and to mosquitoes.
• 1:19
Speaker 2: Oh, I guess that's good. Harmless to me, then.
• 1:23
Speaker 1: Yes. As adults, mosquito hawks don't bite or sting. During
• 1:27
Speaker 1: their short adult life of 10 to 15 days, they're
• 1:30
Speaker 1: just looking to lay eggs.
• 1:32
Speaker 2: Well, mosquito hawks don't seem to contribute much to our world,
• 1:36
Speaker 2: except to terrorize innocent store owners in their offices at night.
• 1:40
Speaker 1: Contribute? Well, commonly, the larva of the species feeds on
• 1:45
Speaker 1: plant roots. This benefits the soil by breaking down organic matter.
• 1:49
Speaker 2: So, during their humble life beneath the ground, they are
• 1:53
Speaker 2: improving the ground that grows our food?
• 1:55
Speaker 1: Like I always say... All of God's creation is beautiful, amazing,
• 2:00
Speaker 1: and fascinating, and God's love is there for us to see.
• 2:04
Speaker 2: It reminds me that no matter how small we may
• 2:06
Speaker 2: feel in this world, God has a place for us
• 2:09
Speaker 2: to fill in His work.
• 2:11
  Speaker 1: Exactly.
• 2:12
Speaker 2: I still don't like how mosquito hawks look. How do
• 2:15
Speaker 2: I minimize their visits to trekkers?
• 2:18
Speaker 1: They are nocturnal, primarily active at night, and attracted to light,
• 2:22
Speaker 1: so don't leave your office light on at night. Ah.
• 2:26
Speaker 2: I had the door open for fresh air. Soon it'll
• 2:29
Speaker 2: be winter, and I'm enjoying the warm air.
• 2:32
Speaker 1: You could open a window. With a screen, unless you
• 2:35
Speaker 1: want more flies as customers. Oh, no.
• 2:40
Speaker 2: They don't spend any money and scare away the other customers, so... No.
• 2:45
Speaker 1: The mosquito hawks are breeding and laying eggs a little
• 2:47
Speaker 1: late this year. I'm going back to the ranger station
• 2:50
Speaker 1: to check last year's records.
• 2:52
Speaker 2: What do we do with the mosquito hawks?
• 2:55
Speaker 1: Tell them... that you look for their larva beneath the
• 2:58
  Speaker 1: ground in January.
• 2:59
Speaker 2: Ranger Reed, since you're here, I have a nice sail on.
• 3:03
Speaker 1: Mr. Simon, I'm not a midnight shopper. Now get on
• 3:07
Speaker 1: home and turn the light off before your store is
• 3:09
  Speaker 1: a fly shop.
• 3:10
Speaker 2: You got it, Ranger.
• 3:13
Speaker 1: Mountaineers, join us here again next time for more Creation Nuggets,
• 3:18
Speaker 1: a Discovery Mountain mini-adventure. Discovery Mountain is a production of
• 3:22
Speaker 1: The Voice of Prophecy.
