Transcript
- 0:00Almost 4 out of 10 health posts in your feed are trying to sell you something.
- 0:04Fewer than 1 in 10 show you any proof.
- 0:07That's not my opinion.
- 0:08Pew Research counted them last week, so this is fresh.
- 0:12The supplement you bought at midnight, the ring, the app, the program, man, I've bought it all.
- 0:21The guy with the abs and the discount code.
- 0:23Hmm.
- 0:24Andy Elliott, anyone?
- 0:26You didn't get advice.
- 0:28You got a pitch dressed up as advice.
- 0:31There's one guarantee nobody in my industry will make.
- 0:35Nobody.
- 0:35And I will make it.
- 0:36So stay tuned to the end.
- 0:38And I'll tell you what it is.
- 0:40And why it's the best test you will ever run anything you buy.
- 0:44For your body, your business, or literally anything.
- 0:4930 years in the gym, my friends.
- 0:51A body strangers online swear is fake.
- 0:55And a company built on one line.
- 0:56Sell the proof, not the promise.
- 0:59That's me, Kelly.
- 1:01And I'm going to put my own receipts on the table first.
- 1:04Including...
- 1:05what I take.
- 1:07So I promise you this, you will walk out here with three questions that separate the pretenders from the contenders in fitness, in business, and anyone you hand your money to in the health business.
- 1:18Remember, I'm Kelly Siegel, and this is Harder Than Life.
- 1:21Let's get started.
- 1:23If you've ever bought something from a guy with a discount code, this episode pays for itself.
- 1:29So please subscribe on YouTube, follow on Spotify and Apple, and now Amazon.
- 1:34And send this to a buddy with a cabinet full of supplements or a bunch of software that he bought that's no good.
- 1:41My feed.
- 1:43is the store and yours is too people dm me non-stop that i look like i'm on steroids my inbox is full of people with this they're sure of it you can't look like that at 50 without a shortcut i get why they think it i'm not even going to get into the psychology and and that i'm doing the work that they're afraid to do but
- 2:07even though I just said it.
- 2:09They've been sold so many shortcuts.
- 2:11They can't picture a body that came from 30 years of showing up.
- 2:15They can't even fathom 30 years of showing up, let alone 30 days.
- 2:19By the way, I just had an absolute funny thing about, remember the ab roller and the hip adductor?
- 2:26Boy, those are funny things.
- 2:28The ab roller actually worked, but the hip adductor, the shake weights,
- 2:34Anyways, I'm going to get into it.
- 2:36The numbers won't lie, man.
- 2:38One line each is 38% of posts promote a product.
- 2:4438%.
- 2:44This is from the Pew Research again.
- 2:45This is not me picking this up.
- 2:47Only 9% cite any outside source.
- 2:51For a health claim, supplement posts, two out of three are selling men's health posts.
- 2:57More than half are selling.
- 3:00The more a post is about men's health, the more likely it's an ad.
- 3:05That's your lane, fellas.
- 3:06You're the target.
- 3:07Remember, social media technically is free.
- 3:11but it's not.
- 3:12You're paying for it with time and you are the product.
- 3:16You are what they're after.
- 3:18They want your time and they want you on there and they're programming.
- 3:22I mean, well, I digress.
- 3:24There's a trend this year.
- 3:25It's called looks maxing.
- 3:27Max your jaw, max your skin, max your sleep.
- 3:33Every max
- 3:35Comes with a product.
- 3:36Heck, my whole freaking feed is all about eat sleep because I'm trying to maximize my sleep.
- 3:43Google something and man, it'll show up everywhere.
- 3:45That's called a remarketing and retargeting.
- 3:47So it's not a coincidence.
- 3:49Here's the belief flip I want you guys to understand.
- 3:51He's in great shape, so he knows.
- 3:53Being in shape is not proof the product did it.
- 3:56It might be the 30 years.
- 3:57It might be the sleep.
- 3:58It might be the stuff that I'm not telling you.
- 4:01Heck, it could be all of the above.
- 4:04But I'm not selling you anything, guys.
- 4:06Remember that.
- 4:07I don't have a program to sell you.
- 4:08The books will pay it forward.
- 4:10The podcast is growing on its own.
- 4:12It'll pay for itself.
- 4:14There are three questions that cut through all of the noise that I'm going to share with you.
- 4:19I'll give you one per story that I'm going to tell in this episode.
- 4:2420 to 25 minute episodes.
- 4:25So stay with me.
- 4:27Question number one, and it's the biggest.
- 4:31Show me the proof.
- 4:32Supplements, gadgets, programs I bought into.
- 4:34Literally, I bought supplements that do nothing.
- 4:39Peptides, you know how many different, so this is embarrassing, but I'm gonna share it.
- 4:43The only thing that I have a problem with is still sleep, right?
- 4:46I'm still struggling with it.
- 4:48I'm better.
- 4:48I'm getting my seven hours, but it's interrupted.
- 4:51And I've been to doctors, sleep studies, everything.
- 4:55And I get up to pee at least once a night, if not twice, sometimes three nights.
- 5:01Finally, my urologist just said, hey, as long as you're going right back to sleep, just be a routine.
- 5:07So I've adopted that and it works fine.
- 5:09So I tell you all that to tell you this.
- 5:11I bought...
- 5:13So many dehydration pills, sleep pills, everything that says that it'll keep you from waking up to pee.
- 5:22None of them worked.
- 5:23Not a single one.
- 5:25I've tried over the counter.
- 5:27I've tried prescription.
- 5:29We've changed dosage.
- 5:30Nothing.
- 5:31I wake up and pee.
- 5:33So that didn't work.
- 5:34And literally another thing that I keep buying right now is the AI hacks.
- 5:39And I'm trying them for national technology management, we're trying them for harder than life.
- 5:43Guys, there is no shortcut to the top.
- 5:47There is no elevator.
- 5:48So I have purchased AI posting things.
- 5:52I've tried the whole quad.
- 5:54I've tried every shortcut.
- 5:57Don't buy them.
- 5:57Guys, in fact, before you buy a software of any kind, email me, kelly at hardinlife.com.
- 6:04I've more than likely bought it and already canceled it.
- 6:09Everything.
- 6:09There's a couple that I bought to see what was going on and analyze my social media.
- 6:14Nothing.
- 6:15It was a waste of time.
- 6:16I canceled it in three days.
- 6:18Worst freaking marketing ever.
- 6:20I have purchased coaching programs.
- 6:23Heck, the first podcast podcast.
- 6:26The first three podcasts I did, I purchased from social media and never aired a single one.
- 6:32Lost five figures on that.
- 6:34And you know, the best thing I did was never air them because they never even called me back to ask why.
- 6:40Tells you that I made the right choice there.
- 6:42So here's the problem.
- 6:44is I never asked for the proof.
- 6:45So that literally was show me somebody or a business that has actually benefited from what you're selling.
- 6:52Not the testimonies on your website, but show me, introduce me to the thing.
- 6:56So proof is not a before and after photo.
- 6:58There's lighting.
- 7:00a pump, a flex core.
- 7:02It can make a bad week look like a good year and heckless.
- 7:04Don't even get me into these filters.
- 7:07Oh, yeah.
- 7:08I can make anybody look good.
- 7:10So don't believe the pictures.
- 7:13Proof is a number measured before and after over time by somebody who doesn't get paid.
- 7:20If it works, that's objective, my friends.
- 7:24My rule is,
- 7:26and it's lived, blood work every six months, doctors supervise.
- 7:30If I start something, I half the number before.
- 7:34If I don't have the number before, I'll never know if it worked.
- 7:37I just have a feeling and a receipt.
- 7:40So measure first, establish your baseline, don't buy it yet.
- 7:45Your waist, your weight, your blood work, your sleep hours, whatever their product claims to change, write it down before you open the bottle.
- 7:52Put it in your journal as a matter of fact.
- 7:54and star and name it.
- 7:56Here's an excuse that I'll hear.
- 7:57Oh, it's only 20 bucks or 40 bucks.
- 8:0040 bucks a month for 10 years is almost five grand.
- 8:04And the real cost is the year you spent thinking you were handling it or addressing whatever the real issue.
- 8:10I will say the placebo effect is real, but just that's why you have to measure it.
- 8:15So you get facts, not feelings.
- 8:18Proof gets you in the door.
- 8:20But the second question is the one most people never ask.
- 8:24So here it goes.
- 8:25Question number two, what do you guarantee?
- 8:28And watch them squirm.
- 8:29My first two years of podcasting, I used two different companies.
- 8:35One would never give me any numbers because had they given me the numbers, I probably would have quit them.
- 8:40that year.
- 8:40When I moved to the second podcasting company, they were inflating the numbers.
- 8:45I knew something was off.
- 8:46I just, I just had to trust my discernment.
- 8:48So I literally learned every way of how not to grow the podcast in the first two years.
- 8:55Finally landed on an honest guy and we are growing.
- 8:58So I'm very happy with that.
- 9:00We do monthly numbers.
- 9:03We look at the downloads.
- 9:04Everything is put into a scorecard that looks like a spreadsheet is all digital now so we can see where everything's going.
- 9:11What you measure gets better.
- 9:12So I lost those first two years, but I don't look at it as a loss because I learned a lot.
- 9:17You only lose if you don't learn.
- 9:19So I learned a lot.
- 9:21So we have to measure everything.
- 9:23So,
- 9:25What do you guarantee?
- 9:27If I was starting to use the podcasting, I would ask, how many downloads do you guarantee?
- 9:32How much ad spend do you guarantee?
- 9:34How much the ROI?
- 9:36How many new organic downloads are we gonna get?
- 9:39There's so many things and honestly, you can go right into AI and just ask, say what would be the proof for this product?
- 9:47And it'll walk you through it.
- 9:48Sometimes it's not as simple as you think.
- 9:51Like a lot of people will look at revenue for their business.
- 9:54That's not what you want to measure profit.
- 9:55You want to measure cash flow.
- 9:57um a lot of people will measure weight yeah if you measured my weight uh i'm overweight 215 pounds five foot nothing uh i look like a tree trunk if you measure my weight i would be overweight so be careful it's not always the first number it's usually a number deeper than that so here's a pro tip how to run this second question what exactly will they do by when
- 10:22And how will they measure it?
- 10:24The buy when is the most important one.
- 10:27Because if you don't set a date, it's open-ended and they will take it and last forever.
- 10:31So make sure that if someone says, again, if someone's selling you a supplement, in the first 30 days, you're going to be here.
- 10:39And then if it's not those 30 days, what's the next 30 days going to look like?
- 10:43And then what's your guarantee going to be?
- 10:45What can I return it if it doesn't do what it says it does?
- 10:50The guy who never asked for a guarantee at work gets pitched at home, at the gym, and at the doctor's office too, and keeps paying for things that absolutely don't work.
- 11:00I remember it was what my mother said.
- 11:02Man, I don't know what it is lately, but I am literally all of the bad stuff that I share with you, mom and mother and stepfather.
- 11:10I have forgiven them and they're just, I remember a lot of the good things that they said and did.
- 11:17So side note, if you're going to give them the shame and the negative for all the bad things they did, give them the props for the positive.
- 11:28My mother used to say this, a fool and his money are soon departing.
- 11:33Thanks, mom.
- 11:34I don't know if you listen to these.
- 11:36Sorry, I don't talk to you ever, but you guys give me some wisdom, man, and taught me to be hotter than life.
- 11:43And I had to do it under some really tough circumstances, but a fool and his money were soon departed.
- 11:47So the first question was, show me the proof.
- 11:49The second one is, what do you guarantee?
- 11:51Which takes us into the third one.
- 11:53But before I do that, I want you to say, please share this episode with a friend who spent a fortune on stuff.
- 11:58They never moved the needle.
- 12:00Send them the show.
- 12:01And you, please subscribe on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple so you can get the guarantee at the end of the month.
- 12:08And that's what we're trying to do with growing the show.
- 12:11Thank you very much for listening.
- 12:12Question number three, who pays if you're wrong?
- 12:16Wow.
- 12:17What do you mean?
- 12:18You mean you have to actually, it actually has to work?
- 12:21Oh my goodness gracious.
- 12:22So right before I was 40, I was training harder and getting softer.
- 12:27The blood work came back with testosterone on 230.
- 12:30So I got on TRT and now I'm on a doctor supervised peptide, blood work every six months, not steroids.
- 12:37And the majority of it is still eating and sleeping and the training and kept promises.
- 12:42Why I say this out loud is because if I hide it, I'm the guy from act one.
- 12:46I'm the one that says, show me the proof.
- 12:49So I am showing you guys the proof.
- 12:52I outgrew the principles in Happier Than Life before it even came out.
- 12:55So I didn't push it hard.
- 12:57I won't sell what I don't fully live, guys.
- 13:00I feel like a hypocrite if I do.
- 13:01So let's deep dive into this third question.
- 13:03Who pays if you're wrong?
- 13:04If the answer is you do and they still get paid, you know whose side he's on.
- 13:09And a follow-up question.
- 13:10What's in it for the person telling me?
- 13:13A discount code, an affiliate link.
- 13:15Do they get a commission, a sponsorship?
- 13:18It doesn't make them a liar.
- 13:19It makes it a pitch and you should know which one you're hearing.
- 13:23So I always do ask like, what's in it for you?
- 13:26That's why you'll always hear me say, I have no affiliation with this company.
- 13:30Because up until now, we have very few affiliations.
- 13:34And I will tell you, I'll always share with you if I'm getting paid from them, man.
- 13:37Because it matters.
- 13:38What do they call that?
- 13:40It happened to me on the charity board that I was on.
- 13:44It's a conflict of interest is what they called it.
- 13:46And I was like, what?
- 13:47It could be a conflict.
- 13:48So I will tell you guys if someone is paying me.
- 13:51So specifically my company, my IT company, IT, AI, cybersecurity company, NTM sponsors the show.
- 13:57You hear it every week in the intro and the outro.
- 13:58I'm talking with health brands about sponsoring too.
- 14:01Here's a general rule.
- 14:02I'm going to say it again out loud so you can't hold me to it.
- 14:05Nothing gets my name unless it passes these three questions I just gave you.
- 14:11And I've used it myself first.
- 14:13We're working on a deal with the National Peptide Company, and I had to go.
- 14:17They literally offered me package and I said, hold on, I got to go through it and make sure it works.
- 14:23So far, so good.
- 14:24So we're going to amp that up tomorrow.
- 14:27So I take it very serious.
- 14:30My word is gold.
- 14:32I'm not up here promising you guys things that I don't do, that I don't use, and that I haven't tried myself.
- 14:39It's what makes me harder than life, I think.
- 14:41And I think that's why the show is growing, because I am very...
- 14:45Very honest and very vulnerable.
- 14:47So disclosure is not a weakness, man.
- 14:50It's what makes you believe me.
- 14:51The FTC actually requires influencers to disclose when they're paid.
- 14:56The ones who are hiding are telling you something.
- 15:00Interesting.
- 15:01So what does it look like when a company actually answers question three?
- 15:06I'll show you mine.
- 15:07In IT and cybersecurity, every company will promise you security.
- 15:12They'll promise you fast resolution times.
- 15:14They will promise that they know what they're doing inside and out.
- 15:18Ask them to guarantee it.
- 15:20And the room goes quiet.
- 15:22At NTM, we will guarantee two things, as a matter of fact, that you will never pay a ransom.
- 15:29And the second one is that we will match anybody's price as long as it's the exact same product.
- 15:36And newsflash, the second one is...
- 15:41Bull schlocka because nobody offers the breadth of the solution we do.
- 15:46I sleep well at night because our cyber product is very, very in depth and it has multiple layers of cybersecurity.
- 15:53That's why I can make that guarantee.
- 15:55Most companies to offer a cheaper price.
- 15:58peel back those those offerings we don't i've found that if i take even one thing away it leaves uh the people open to the companies open to uh vulnerability so again will price match nobody offers the services we do so the second one is a little posturing this is me being authentic and genuine and i i don't know any other way guys and these guarantees are measured so literally in the 30 years that i've been in business
- 16:25One customer paid a ransom and it was someone we inherited.
- 16:27As a matter of fact, I keep a bunch of Bitcoin for just that and we inherit, someone came to us that had it and we paid.
- 16:35And my silly bad businessman didn't charge him for that.
- 16:38But this was way back when they were like,
- 16:41I want to say they're $1,000.
- 16:42Now they're like $85,000.
- 16:44We can do the guarantee because I've done this for 30 years.
- 16:47I have processes standards.
- 16:49We measure resolution time.
- 16:51We started off with an eight-hour goal.
- 16:52Now we're down to two.
- 16:54I'm not promising much.
- 16:57It's the proof.
- 16:58I'm showing you the receipt, putting my money behind it.
- 17:00In fact, we publish all of our service statistics, our pricing, and our ordering right online.
- 17:06So any competitor can get online and see it.
- 17:09I welcome it.
- 17:10I will pay it forward.
- 17:11If you read the Heart of the Life book, I give you the whole blueprint on how I started at NTM.
- 17:16Copy it.
- 17:17It's not the blueprint that's the problem.
- 17:20Most people just won't even do it.
- 17:22And most people won't even ask these three questions because it's uncomfortable.
- 17:25But I assure you, if you ask for the proof and you ask for a guarantee or a get out of jail free card and they balk at it, walk away.
- 17:35You'll thank me later.
- 17:36Keep in mind, those three questions, that's exactly what the three questions look like when they answer it.
- 17:40If I'm wrong, I pay.
- 17:42Not my customers.
- 17:43So question number one, show me the proof.
- 17:46A number before and after over time from someone who doesn't profit.
- 17:51Question number two, what do you guarantee?
- 17:54What's the result?
- 17:55A number and a date.
- 17:58The date is most important.
- 18:00Question number three, who pays if you're wrong?
- 18:05If it's only you, walk.
- 18:08And your homework before you buy anything for your body, get your before number.
- 18:12No baseline, no buy.
- 18:15Please, please get the baseline.
- 18:18This is for everything, but specifically for your body.
- 18:21Pretenders will sell the promise.
- 18:23Contenders will sell the proof.
- 18:24That's how you can tell them apart in a supplement, aisle, or boardroom.
- 18:29Here's an excuse I hear.
- 18:30Nobody gives guarantees in health.
- 18:32Then lower your spend until they show you the proof.
- 18:35Your money is a vote.
- 18:36Believe me, if we stop spending, they'll start giving true proof.
- 18:41Stop voting for promises.
- 18:43which makes me think of our government right now right oh yeah the promises that they don't keep accountability is a really really tough thing in this world right now here's the recap your feed is a store social media feed is a store ask for the proof ask for what they guarantee and ask who pays if they're wrong
- 19:02And I went first with NTM.
- 19:05Before you buy anything for your body, ask three questions.
- 19:08Show me the proof.
- 19:09What do you guarantee?
- 19:11And who pays if you're wrong?
- 19:13Will they give you a money back guarantee?
- 19:14A lot of companies do that, by the way.
- 19:16What's the most expensive health thing you bought that turned out to be all promise?
- 19:20Put that in the comments, guys.
- 19:22I read them.
- 19:23And I'll tell you if it passes the test.
- 19:25And remember, none of this replaces your doctor.
- 19:27Take the three questions to your doctor.
- 19:29A good one will answer them.
- 19:31And before I close out, guys, I want to ask you one more time, please share this with the person who just bought something off of a discount code.
- 19:36Subscribe on YouTube and follow on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and now Amazon.
- 19:40Save it because the next pitch is coming tomorrow.
- 19:43And as soon as you open your social media feed.
- 19:46Remember, I'm Kelly Siegel, reminding you to face your fears, to live your dreams.
- 19:50This is Harder Than Life, and I'll see you next Thursday.
