- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo! Luna: Thanks Lucas! I'm ready for another tiny lesson. What's today's topic? Lucas: So we did numbers one to five a while back, remember? Today we go from six to ten. Luna: Oh perfect! I loved that episode. Let me see if I remember... one is አንድ, two is ሁለት, three is ሶስት, four is አራት, five is አምስት. Lucas: There you go! Nailed it. Okay, six in Amharic is ስድስት. Repeat after me: ስድስት. Luna: ስድስት. That sounds like 'sist' kind of. Six. Lucas: Exactly. Let's do it again: ስድስት. Luna: ስድስት. Lucas: Great. Now seven is ሰባት. Say it with me: ሰባት. Luna: ሰባት. That sounds like 'sebat'. Lucas: Right. ሰባት. Luna: ሰባት. Lucas: Eight is ስምንት. Repeat: ስምንት. Luna: ስምንት. That one's a bit longer – 'simint'. Lucas: You got it. ስምንት. Luna: ስምንት. Lucas: Nine is ዘጠኝ. Say it: ዘጠኝ. Luna: ዘጠኝ. That almost sounds like 'zet-nye'. Lucas: Close enough! ዘጠኝ. Luna: ዘጠኝ. Lucas: And ten is አስር. Repeat: አስር. Luna: አስር. That's 'asser'. Lucas: Perfect. Let's run through them all: ስድስት, ሰባት, ስምንት, ዘጠኝ, አስር. Luna: ስድስት, ሰባት, ስምንት, ዘጠኝ, አስር. Lucas: Good! Now let's use them. Imagine you're at a market in Addis and you want to buy seven oranges. You learned 'orange' is ብርቱካን. Try: seven oranges – ሰባት ብርቱካን. Luna: ሰባት ብርቱካን. Lucas: Excellent. How about six bananas? Banana is ሙዝ. Luna: ስድስት ሙዝ. That's six bananas. Lucas: You're a natural. Now let's count from six to ten again slowly: ስድስት, ሰባት, ስምንት, ዘጠኝ, አስር. Luna: ስድስት, ሰባት, ስምንት, ዘጠኝ, አስር. Lucas: Love it. Let's do a quick quiz. I'll say a number in English, you say it in Amharic. Ready? Luna: Ready! Lucas: Eight. Luna: ስምንት. Lucas: Six. Luna: ስድስት. Lucas: Ten. Luna: አስር. Lucas: Nine. Luna: ዘጠኝ. Lucas: Seven. Luna: ሰባት. Lucas: Ahh, yes! You did it. All correct. Luna: Whew! These are sticking. I like that ሰባት sounds like 'seven' but with a b. Lucas: Good observation. One more round for practice: count from six to ten. Luna: ስድስት, ሰባት, ስምንት, ዘጠኝ, አስር. Lucas: Beautiful. Now you can count from one to ten in Amharic. That's አንድ, ሁለት, ሶስት, አራት, አምስት, ስድስት, ሰባት, ስምንት, ዘጠኝ, አስር. Luna: That's so satisfying. I can already picture myself at a market saying አስር ብርቱካን – ten oranges. Lucas: Exactly. Practice these numbers throughout the day. Thanks for listening to Learn Amharic with Fexingo. Keep practicing and see you next time! Luna: Thanks Lucas! Bye everyone!
