Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: He says, I'm sorry to tell you, James. He says
- 0:02Speaker 1: that the cancer has spread. It's in your lymphatic system,
- 0:06Speaker 1: it's in your lymphodes. He said, it's probably maybe in
- 0:10Speaker 1: other areas. But we just need to really get aggressive now.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And he says, I'm sorry about this, but it's just
- 0:18Speaker 1: we got to really, you know, get aggressive. He says,
- 0:21Speaker 1: I want you to do eighty chemotherapy treatments. I want
- 0:24Speaker 1: you to do their experimental treatments. And he says, they're
- 0:29Speaker 1: really hard on you because it's we're going to elevate
- 0:32Speaker 1: your temperature and do what they call hypothermia. And this
- 0:36Speaker 1: was new back then. They do this more now, but
- 0:39Speaker 1: this was like felt like torture to me when I
- 0:42Speaker 1: ended up doing it. But he said, we're going to
- 0:44Speaker 1: elevate your temperature as high as we can without it
- 0:47Speaker 1: harming you, and then we're going to induce the chemotherapy
- 0:51Speaker 1: through an IV. This whole process will take eight to
- 0:54Speaker 1: ten hours a day.

- 3:37Speaker 2: So I'm really grateful that you took the time to

- 3:46Speaker 1: Thank you, Thank you me. It's nice to be thank you.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Thank you, James. For those who may not be familiar
- 3:53Speaker 2: with your story, can you take us back when you
- 3:56Speaker 2: were thirty two years old and what was happening in
- 3:59Speaker 2: your life and how did you first learn that you
- 4:02Speaker 2: had cancer.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Well, you know, I was living in Texas. I'm a
- 4:06Speaker 1: fifth generation Texan, and I thought everything was going great
- 4:13Speaker 1: for me back then. I had several businesses, I had
- 4:18Speaker 1: a beautiful wife, I had a little daughter that was
- 4:22Speaker 1: almost two years old, and I felt like, you know,
- 4:27Speaker 1: kind of, I guess I had life by the tail,
- 4:29Speaker 1: I like to say. And I was successful, you know,
- 4:34Speaker 1: and we had a farm and we were living out
- 4:36Speaker 1: on the farm and had a new home, and and
- 4:40Speaker 1: you know, I had some I actually had cattle, and
- 4:43Speaker 1: I had some other animals, and I just I just
- 4:47Speaker 1: was living the dream kind of, you know. And I
- 4:50Speaker 1: was even running a lot. I was one of these
- 4:52Speaker 1: runners that you'd see, you know, running all over the place.
- 4:56Speaker 1: And I was the guy that people would well, every
- 5:00Speaker 1: time I go out around. I lived in a small
- 5:02Speaker 1: town outside of a small town, but I would run
- 5:06Speaker 1: out in the country, i'd run in town, I'd run
- 5:08Speaker 1: all over and I was running probably back then about
- 5:13Speaker 1: sixty miles a week. And then you know, exercising and
- 5:16Speaker 1: working all the time and having a farm and fixing
- 5:19Speaker 1: fence and feeding cattle and this and that. So there
- 5:23Speaker 1: was there was a lot to do. But I started
- 5:28Speaker 1: this running thing because I wanted to get in better
- 5:31Speaker 1: shape because my father and my grandfather both died of
- 5:36Speaker 1: heart disease at a very young age, and I didn't
- 5:40Speaker 1: want to be the next one. And I got to
- 5:42Speaker 1: following a guy that was back in that time that
- 5:46Speaker 1: anybody kind of you know, probably in their sixties, seventies
- 5:52Speaker 1: or maybe fifties even might remember a guy by the
- 5:55Speaker 1: name of Jim Fix. And Jim Fix was this guy,
- 5:58Speaker 1: and he was the kind of the running guru, you know,
- 6:02Speaker 1: a fitness slash running guru. And he believed that he
- 6:09Speaker 1: I think he wrote the book, well, he did write
- 6:12Speaker 1: the book The Art of Running and and uh, the
- 6:16Speaker 1: Complete Book of Running or something. I forget what it
- 6:19Speaker 1: is sometimes, but anyway, I followed him, and I thought, well,
- 6:24Speaker 1: if I do what Jim says, you know, I won't
- 6:26Speaker 1: have to worry about the heart problems. And and Jim
- 6:29Speaker 1: thought he could just run and stay in good shape
- 6:32Speaker 1: and not worry about what you ate or anything, or
- 6:35Speaker 1: you know, that was kind of how it was. So
- 6:38Speaker 1: one day I go to the office, and I go
- 6:41Speaker 1: into the office early in the morning, probably you know,
- 6:46Speaker 1: five or six in the morning, and there was a
- 6:48Speaker 1: newspaper laying there at the at the business. And I
- 6:52Speaker 1: went in my office later on and looked at that
- 6:55Speaker 1: newspaper and on the in the front page, it was
- 6:58Speaker 1: talking about this guy, this running guy that died while
- 7:02Speaker 1: he was out actually jogging, and it was Jim Fix
- 7:07Speaker 1: And I couldn't believe it. Here's this guy that I
- 7:10Speaker 1: kind of looked up to and wanted to be kind
- 7:13Speaker 1: of like him, and then he dies of a heart
- 7:15Speaker 1: attack while running. Well, I thought, well, I don't want
- 7:17Speaker 1: to you know, I don't want to continue doing this.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I mean, this is this was very shocking to me.
- 7:23Speaker 1: You know, I'm almost fell out of my chair. It
- 7:26Speaker 1: was like, I can't believe this, you know, one of
- 7:28Speaker 1: those deals. So I made up my mind then that
- 7:31Speaker 1: I needed to know how good of shape I really was.
- 7:35Speaker 1: And so I decided to go to one of these
- 7:39Speaker 1: doctors that specialized in a cardio stress test. And it
- 7:44Speaker 1: was a a doctor in town that the only doctor
- 7:48Speaker 1: in town that did that kind of thing. And I
- 7:50Speaker 1: went to this doctor and I said, doctor, you know,
- 7:55Speaker 1: I want to get checked out. And he says, well,
- 7:57Speaker 1: let's you know, he fully checked me out and he
- 8:00Speaker 1: was very thorough. And then he says, let's get you
- 8:03Speaker 1: on this treadmill. We've got here, and let's see how
- 8:06Speaker 1: good you're really, you know, doing here. So he put
- 8:10Speaker 1: me on the treadmill test and he says to me,
- 8:13Speaker 1: you know, after it was over, he said, James, he says,
- 8:17Speaker 1: my god, he said, you broke the all time record
- 8:20Speaker 1: in this office. He said, I do this all the time,
- 8:24Speaker 1: but most people aren't near in the shape ur in.
- 8:27Speaker 1: You did very well. And I was young, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: you know, thirty two years old is young. And that
- 8:34Speaker 1: was in the prime of my running career. Really, you
- 8:38Speaker 1: know that I was doing and I was running in
- 8:41Speaker 1: these races and all this stuff. And he says, but
- 8:47Speaker 1: on the way out, he says, there's a mole on
- 8:49Speaker 1: your back, and he says, it just looks a little different.
- 8:53Speaker 1: He says, I don't think you're ever going to have
- 8:55Speaker 1: to worry about your heart for a long time. He said,
- 8:58Speaker 1: keep doing what you're doing. But he says, I mean,
- 9:01Speaker 1: you're doing very well. But he says, there's a mole
- 9:04Speaker 1: on your back. Why don't you get it checked out
- 9:07Speaker 1: at a dermatologist office, you know, check it out. It's
- 9:11Speaker 1: probably nothing to it, but it just looks a little
- 9:13Speaker 1: different to me, and I didn't think much about it.
- 9:17Speaker 1: He didn't seem too alarmed, and he said, uh, there's
- 9:20Speaker 1: a dermatologist, you know, down the down the hall here,
- 9:23Speaker 1: not too far, and you know that he would be
- 9:26Speaker 1: a good place to start. Well, I made an appointment
- 9:29Speaker 1: to go see, you know, two or three weeks later,
- 9:32Speaker 1: and I go in to see this guy and he says,
- 9:34Speaker 1: take off your shirt, let's see what's what's going on.
- 9:37Speaker 1: He looks at my back. He says, oh my gosh.
- 9:40Speaker 1: You know, he goes, I think you have melanoma, you know,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and I was like, milanoma, And I didn't know much
- 9:50Speaker 1: about it. I'd heard a little bit about it, but
- 9:52Speaker 1: you know, we didn't have the internet back then and
- 9:55Speaker 1: all the things we have, and you know, he's just
- 9:57Speaker 1: sort of you know, your mother maybe said somebody had
- 10:00Speaker 1: a mole and it turned into cancer and they died
- 10:03Speaker 1: or something from it. And I didn't think much that
- 10:05Speaker 1: I remembered that part. And so when he said that
- 10:09Speaker 1: to me, I just I just probably turned white as
- 10:13Speaker 1: a sheet and I just I said, listen, you know
- 10:19Speaker 1: what do I do? And he says, well, we might
- 10:21Speaker 1: have to remove a large part of your back around
- 10:24Speaker 1: that area of the tissue. He said, this looks good
- 10:27Speaker 1: like it could be serious. Well, he didn't even know,
- 10:30Speaker 1: but I didn't like his bedside manner because he got
- 10:32Speaker 1: so excited and so so just I never seen a
- 10:38Speaker 1: doctor get like that excited about something like that. So
- 10:43Speaker 1: he says to me, he says, we need to get
- 10:48Speaker 1: after this immediately, and lets get in there and see
- 10:51Speaker 1: exactly what this is. And I said, you know what, doctor,
- 10:55Speaker 1: I'll get back to you in a few days. Well,
- 10:57Speaker 1: I didn't want to see this guy. So I got
- 11:00Speaker 1: my truck and went home. And I was really upset
- 11:05Speaker 1: because of this, and you know, my perfect world kind
- 11:09Speaker 1: of came to an end that day. And I went
- 11:12Speaker 1: home and my wife says to me, he says, why
- 11:16Speaker 1: don't you get a second opinion this. Maybe he's mistaken,
- 11:19Speaker 1: maybe it's nothing at all. So I got an appointment,
- 11:23Speaker 1: went in to see an oncologist. Eventually, after another couple
- 11:27Speaker 1: of doctors, that ends up in an oncologist office and
- 11:31Speaker 1: the oncologist says, well, it looks suspicious. To me. And
- 11:35Speaker 1: this guy was renowned and he was supposedly the best
- 11:39Speaker 1: of the best, and he was down in Houston, Texas.
- 11:42Speaker 1: And I thought, well, I guess if I got to,
- 11:44Speaker 1: you know, really look into this, maybe he's the right guy.
- 11:48Speaker 1: He says, well, the only way we're going to know
- 11:50Speaker 1: is if we go in and take it out. He says,
- 11:53Speaker 1: I can do it right here, we can take it out.
- 11:55Speaker 1: So I let him do it. And he took a big,
- 11:59Speaker 1: big plug out of him my back, you know, it
- 12:01Speaker 1: was just it just was like a square plug almost,
- 12:05Speaker 1: And he says, we're going to send this into the lab.
- 12:09Speaker 1: He said, I'll let you know in a few days
- 12:12Speaker 1: what they say and what they find. He said, chances
- 12:16Speaker 1: are it won't be anything. You know. He said, don't worry.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Go home.
- 12:20Speaker 1: You know, there's nothing you can do. Just don't worry.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Well that's all I did. I went home. I was
- 12:25Speaker 1: worried about it. Couldn't sleep at night, wandering, you know, wandering.
- 12:29Speaker 1: This is the sometimes the most stressful time with someone.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Is it cancer, is it not cancer? What is it?
- 12:37Speaker 1: You know? So I was pacing the floor. I didn't,
- 12:43Speaker 1: you know, I just was kind of becoming a wreck.
- 12:47Speaker 1: You know, and just not knowing what to do. So
- 12:51Speaker 1: here I am. And it was about two and a
- 12:53Speaker 1: half weeks later, which I didn't know I was taking
- 12:57Speaker 1: so long. But he calls me on the phone, he says, James,
- 13:01Speaker 1: He says, I have some good news and some bad news.
- 13:05Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh my gosh, you know, because I
- 13:08Speaker 1: heard the bad part. And he says, well, the good
- 13:12Speaker 1: news is that it's milanoma. But we think we got
- 13:18Speaker 1: it all. We think that we around the outer perimeter
- 13:21Speaker 1: of this incision. We think we've got it all, he says.
- 13:25Speaker 1: But he said, the bad news is very deep, and
- 13:29Speaker 1: there's a real strong chance that it's going to spread
- 13:32Speaker 1: to other parts of your body, your lymphatic system, other organs,
- 13:38Speaker 1: et cetera. We're going to have to keep a real
- 13:40Speaker 1: close watch on this. And he said to me, he says,
- 13:44Speaker 1: you need to come in every three months and we'll
- 13:46Speaker 1: check you out. And it basically they feel around on
- 13:50Speaker 1: your lympnodes and because a lot of times it'll spread
- 13:53Speaker 1: to your lymphatic system into your lymphodes, he said to me,
- 13:59Speaker 1: chances are we won't ever see it again. Let's let's
- 14:02Speaker 1: keep our fingers crossed and We'll just keep on top
- 14:06Speaker 1: of it. So I did. I went in every you know,
- 14:10Speaker 1: three months. So I went in a couple of times.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Everything was fine, and then I'd come back and then
- 14:16Speaker 1: I'd go again. And I was nervous because the whole time,
- 14:19Speaker 1: because I'd talked to different doctor friends that said, oh,
- 14:23Speaker 1: you know, milanoma, you know, isn't good. And by the way,
- 14:31Speaker 1: he had told me that since it was so deep,
- 14:33Speaker 1: it was already considered stage four milanoma based on this
- 14:38Speaker 1: what they call the Clark scale of measurement. And he said, so,
- 14:43Speaker 1: you know, you know, we got to really, you know,
- 14:46Speaker 1: be watch it. Well, this other doctor tells me, he says, well,
- 14:49Speaker 1: you know, you probably might not live over three years
- 14:54Speaker 1: with this. And I'm like, oh my gosh, you know
- 14:57Speaker 1: three years. I mean, oh, well that really upset me.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Of course, being anybody, whether you're thirty two or fifty two,
- 15:06Speaker 1: it's gonna upset you. So I just kept going. But
- 15:11Speaker 1: one day I found that I had a lump in
- 15:14Speaker 1: my growing I was taking a shower and I just
- 15:18Speaker 1: you know, because you start to get nervous and start
- 15:20Speaker 1: feeling around and all this. I had a lump in
- 15:22Speaker 1: my growing area. And I called the doctor up, and
- 15:25Speaker 1: the doctor says, well, it's probably nothing, don't worry about it.
- 15:30Speaker 1: And he said, but you know, why don't you just
- 15:34Speaker 1: come in. I think we got another month and a
- 15:36Speaker 1: half or so. Come in then and we'll we'll look
- 15:38Speaker 1: at it again. There's not much we can do right now.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Just if it gets starts getting bigger, though, then then
- 15:44Speaker 1: we'll have to look at it. And you know, this
- 15:47Speaker 1: is this story I'm telling is a long story, but
- 15:50Speaker 1: I'm cutting through it and it's trying to make it
- 15:53Speaker 1: a little shorter. But I wasn't the same guy before,
- 15:57Speaker 1: the happy, old lucky guy that up was ambitious and
- 16:01Speaker 1: I lost my ambition. I lost my desire to do
- 16:05Speaker 1: the things and have the businesses. And I had about
- 16:09Speaker 1: three different businesses at the time, and I just, I
- 16:12Speaker 1: don't know, I just I couldn't get my mind away
- 16:15Speaker 1: from this cancer thing. And I think these people telling
- 16:20Speaker 1: me stuff, you know, really really got me stirred up.
- 16:24Speaker 1: And and you know, I felt like people in town
- 16:27Speaker 1: were kind of avoiding me, and you know, word gets
- 16:30Speaker 1: out in a small town, and and I just felt
- 16:33Speaker 1: it's probably me just thinking that, but but I just
- 16:37Speaker 1: wasn't a happy camper, you know. And my wife we
- 16:41Speaker 1: started having issues, started having problems right at that time.
- 16:44Speaker 1: And I think my wife was having a hard time
- 16:47Speaker 1: dealing with it, with the new me, or maybe with
- 16:50Speaker 1: the whole thing, and so so we separated, and I mean,
- 16:55Speaker 1: that was a hard time for me there, and I
- 16:58Speaker 1: just after that, I didn't I don't know what I thought.
- 17:02Speaker 1: I kind of almost didn't care for a little while
- 17:05Speaker 1: there whether I lived or died. And that's terrible to
- 17:08Speaker 1: think like that, but you start thinking like that. And so,
- 17:12Speaker 1: but the lump was getting bigger, and I went in
- 17:15Speaker 1: to see the doctor, and the doctor says, well, we're
- 17:17Speaker 1: gonna check you in the hospital and get you. Get
- 17:20Speaker 1: in there and see what this is. So I knew
- 17:24Speaker 1: I was in trouble. After the surgery, I woke up
- 17:27Speaker 1: and that doctor comes in. I had all these bandages
- 17:32Speaker 1: all over my growing and tube sticking out of me
- 17:36Speaker 1: and everything, and he says, I'm sorry to tell you, James.
- 17:39Speaker 1: He says that the cancer has spread. It's in your
- 17:43Speaker 1: lymphatic system, it's in your limpodes. He said, it's probably
- 17:49Speaker 1: maybe in other areas, but we just need to really
- 17:53Speaker 1: get aggressive now. And he says I'm sorry about this,
- 17:56Speaker 1: but it's just we got to really, you know, uh,
- 18:00Speaker 1: get aggressive. He says, I want you to do eighty
- 18:04Speaker 1: chemotherapy treatments. I want you to do their experimental treatments.
- 18:09Speaker 1: And he says they're really hard on you because it's
- 18:13Speaker 1: we're gonna elevate your temperature and do what they call hypothermia.
- 18:18Speaker 1: And this was new back then. They do this more now,
- 18:21Speaker 1: but this was like felt like torture to me when
- 18:24Speaker 1: I ended up doing it. But he said, we're going
- 18:26Speaker 1: to elevate your temperature as high as we can without
- 18:29Speaker 1: it harming you, and then we're going to induce the
- 18:33Speaker 1: chemotherapy through an IV. This whole process will take eight
- 18:37Speaker 1: to ten hours a day, and you know, be in
- 18:40Speaker 1: the hospital bed. You know, but after you recovered from
- 18:44Speaker 1: the surgery, and I mean this was a big incision
- 18:47Speaker 1: that was you know, where they basically took all my
- 18:51Speaker 1: major olympodes out on my growing area. And he said,
- 18:55Speaker 1: it'll take about three weeks to recover enough to do
- 18:57Speaker 1: the chemo after the surgery. So we'll keep you in
- 19:00Speaker 1: the hospital, we'll try to make you comfortable as we can,
- 19:05Speaker 1: and then we'll give you this chemotherapy. And he said, also,
- 19:11Speaker 1: we need to do a limp drainage pump because that
- 19:13Speaker 1: limp is really your leg is going to be really
- 19:18Speaker 1: inflamed for quite a while. My leg was already twice
- 19:21Speaker 1: as big as the other one, you know, from the drainage.
- 19:24Speaker 1: And so he said, you're going to have to use
- 19:28Speaker 1: this several hours a day for months or maybe years.
- 19:32Speaker 1: He says, because if you don't, you could lose that leg,
- 19:36Speaker 1: and we don't want that to happen. So he tells
- 19:39Speaker 1: me about the chemotherapy. And then he tells me about that,
- 19:43Speaker 1: and he said that the other thing is he says,
- 19:48Speaker 1: because I asked him, he didn't want to tell me.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I said, what are my chances, you know, from your experience,
- 19:54Speaker 1: and he says, well, you probably got a twenty percent
- 19:59Speaker 1: chance of surviving three to five years if we can
- 20:04Speaker 1: get through these treatments, these these experimental chemotherapy treatments. In
- 20:10Speaker 1: other words, like if you can survive through that? And
- 20:12Speaker 1: I just, you know, I didn't know what to do.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I mean, what do you do? You know? It's all
- 20:18Speaker 1: I knew where I come from. You go the doctor.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I didn't know about alternatives. I didn't know about any
- 20:23Speaker 1: of this stuff and that I've learned about over the
- 20:26Speaker 1: last forty plus years. But he says to me, he says,
- 20:31Speaker 1: there's nothing we can do. Just after you get out
- 20:34Speaker 1: of the hospital and you get these treatments, to go home,
- 20:37Speaker 1: don't worry about things, and just come back in two months,
- 20:40Speaker 1: because it's going to take you about two months to
- 20:42Speaker 1: recover from all this. You're gonna feel really weak from
- 20:46Speaker 1: the chemotherapy. And when you come back and we'll do
- 20:49Speaker 1: another batch. We're gonna do you know, five five five
- 20:56Speaker 1: until we get to eighty. So every two months you
- 20:59Speaker 1: got to come into the hospital and it'll take another
- 21:02Speaker 1: two months. So anyway, I thought, well, I guess if
- 21:06Speaker 1: a little is good, lots better. So I'm I'm just
- 21:08Speaker 1: you know, just pouring on me, you know. So anyway,
- 21:12Speaker 1: I'm laying there in that hospital bed. This is you know,
- 21:15Speaker 1: after this surgery and everything, and I was miserable and
- 21:18Speaker 1: felt sorry for myself and all that, and uh, I
- 21:24Speaker 1: didn't know what I was gonna do, you know. I
- 21:26Speaker 1: just I thought I was kind of like I used
- 21:28Speaker 1: to would say, I feel like I'm a goner, you know,
- 21:32Speaker 1: And all of a sudden, out of the Blue. I
- 21:36Speaker 1: got a phone call and this is when things started
- 21:39Speaker 1: happening for me. And you know, the phone call was
- 21:43Speaker 1: from a minister, and he was a Christian minister. I
- 21:48Speaker 1: went to church, not a lot, I'm not. I wasn't
- 21:51Speaker 1: a real religious guy, but you know, we'd go every
- 21:55Speaker 1: once in a while. And I knew this guy because
- 21:57Speaker 1: he was a runner too. He was older than me,
- 22:00Speaker 1: but he had been an ex professional baseball player, and
- 22:04Speaker 1: he was kind of a tough guy, you know, a
- 22:06Speaker 1: nice guy. And he says to me, he said, James,
- 22:12Speaker 1: I'm so sorry to hear about what you're going through.
- 22:14Speaker 1: He says, I want you to know that I've been
- 22:16Speaker 1: praying for you, and many people in town and the
- 22:20Speaker 1: church have been praying for you. You know, you're not
- 22:23Speaker 1: all along, he says to me. He says, listen, if
- 22:29Speaker 1: anybody can beat this, you can. He says, I want
- 22:33Speaker 1: you to know that you're tough. You know how to
- 22:36Speaker 1: push yourself when you need to. He says, don't give
- 22:39Speaker 1: in to this, don't give up. He said, just just
- 22:43Speaker 1: you know, fight like you've never fought before. And he said,
- 22:47Speaker 1: you've beat this such and such cancer. And I mean
- 22:52Speaker 1: he came out and he said some four letter words
- 22:54Speaker 1: and I never heard him say and you know, and
- 22:58Speaker 1: I I just sort of like, oh my god, you know,
- 23:01Speaker 1: did I hear him say that? You know? And he says,
- 23:06Speaker 1: you beat this blank blink, you know, cancer. So it
- 23:12Speaker 1: got me to think it really hard. And I said
- 23:16Speaker 1: after we hung up, and I said, you know, I
- 23:20Speaker 1: need help with this. And you know, I'm not very
- 23:22Speaker 1: good at praying and all this, but maybe I should
- 23:25Speaker 1: be praying to find an answer. So I started to
- 23:29Speaker 1: pray like I never prayed before, and it just like
- 23:33Speaker 1: I felt like it was an out of body experience.
- 23:36Speaker 1: I mean, it was I felt like I was praying
- 23:38Speaker 1: to the higher power, you know, the God, the whatever
- 23:42Speaker 1: you want to call it, that I needed some help
- 23:45Speaker 1: and I needed some answers, and I needed it quick
- 23:47Speaker 1: because if I didn't get it, I didn't think I
- 23:50Speaker 1: was going to you know, survive for some reason, intuitively
- 23:55Speaker 1: very long. And all of a sudden, when I got
- 23:59Speaker 1: to with that, you know, things started to really happen
- 24:03Speaker 1: for me. And this was a really you know, really
- 24:09Speaker 1: desperate prayer. You know, it was really desperate, like I've
- 24:12Speaker 1: never been to that desperate before. So all of a
- 24:15Speaker 1: sudden you know it was.
- 24:20Speaker 4: Me.
- 24:20Speaker 1: It was things happened in about twenty minutes after that prayer.
- 24:26Speaker 1: This is the real, biggest part of it all is
- 24:30Speaker 1: a friend of mine came to the door of the
- 24:32Speaker 1: hospital door, knocked on the door. I hadn't seen him
- 24:35Speaker 1: in seven years. He walked through that door and he said,
- 24:38Speaker 1: I was driving around this the hospital. I heard you
- 24:42Speaker 1: were in here from some of our old friends, and
- 24:45Speaker 1: he said, I felt like I needed to come here
- 24:48Speaker 1: because a friend of a friend of mine at the
- 24:51Speaker 1: office where I worked brought me an article about a
- 24:54Speaker 1: guy that healed himself of cancer using a diet lifestyle,
- 25:00Speaker 1: and he said, I just, you know, thought that this
- 25:04Speaker 1: might be something that would be helpful for you. Well,
- 25:08Speaker 1: he came in, he had these papers and he was like,
- 25:10Speaker 1: you know, it was good to see him. But I said,
- 25:13Speaker 1: what do you have there in your hand. He says, well,
- 25:15Speaker 1: it's about it's an article. It's actually was a book
- 25:20Speaker 1: review of a guy that healed himself and his name
- 25:24Speaker 1: was Dirk Benedict. And Dirk Benedict was an actor on
- 25:28Speaker 1: TV back then. It was on a TV show called
- 25:31Speaker 1: The A Team, and he was a guy that was
- 25:37Speaker 1: the youngest looking guy on there, blondheaded guy and everything,
- 25:41Speaker 1: good looking guy, and he had had prostate cancer and
- 25:44Speaker 1: he healed himself using a macrobotic diet and lifestyle. And
- 25:51Speaker 1: I didn't know what that was. I thought, what r
- 25:54Speaker 1: does this? I ask my friend, do you know what
- 25:55Speaker 1: this is? He is, no, I don't know anything about this.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I said, I'm supposed to do this. He says, well,
- 26:03Speaker 1: how do you know? I said, I just know. I
- 26:05Speaker 1: knew you know, this is what I'm supposed to do.
- 26:08Speaker 1: And I got excited. I thought if Dirk could do it,
- 26:13Speaker 1: why couldn't I do it? You know? I mean I
- 26:16Speaker 1: kind of related to him because he was a guy
- 26:19Speaker 1: that grew up on a ranch in Montana, and I
- 26:21Speaker 1: grew up in Texas and you know, had a little
- 26:25Speaker 1: ranch on my own, I guess her farm. And I thought, well,
- 26:28Speaker 1: I kind of related to this guy. And I said,
- 26:33Speaker 1: can you go find this book for me? And it
- 26:36Speaker 1: was Confessions of a Kama Cozi Cowboy. And I had
- 26:41Speaker 1: him go out and get this book and he found it.
- 26:43Speaker 1: He came in that later that afternoon with this book.
- 26:48Speaker 1: And the book wasn't about telling everything he did. It
- 26:51Speaker 1: told some It was just about the mentality that he
- 26:55Speaker 1: had about how he was going for broken he'dn't do
- 26:58Speaker 1: whatever he had to do, and I just related to
- 27:01Speaker 1: that so much, and I started to get some hope,
- 27:08Speaker 1: which i'd kind of lost my hope, and especially kind
- 27:12Speaker 1: of after everything had happened to me and my wife Leaven,
- 27:16Speaker 1: me and my taking my little daughter and all that,
- 27:18Speaker 1: I just it just sort of like I lost my
- 27:22Speaker 1: hope and my my you know, drive that I really needed.
- 27:28Speaker 1: And so anyway, he went out and got that book.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I got excited. I couldn't put it down. And then
- 27:35Speaker 1: the next morning I got another knock on the door,
- 27:39Speaker 1: and it was my stepmother that raised me. She comes
- 27:44Speaker 1: to the door of having a book in her hand,
- 27:45Speaker 1: and she says, well, oh, there's one of our distant
- 27:49Speaker 1: relatives set this book to me, thought that it might
- 27:52Speaker 1: be helpful for you. And it was about vitamin see
- 27:57Speaker 1: and cancer, and it was about Linus Pauling, which if
- 28:03Speaker 1: people have been around long enough, Linus Pauling was a
- 28:05Speaker 1: big name and he did a lot of research with
- 28:09Speaker 1: vitamin see cancer, heart disease, all that. When they stopped
- 28:15Speaker 1: and they would get sick and a lot of them
- 28:16Speaker 1: would die, a lot of them were on their deathbed.
- 28:19Speaker 1: So I thought, well, if it'll help those people, then
- 28:22Speaker 1: why I want to help me. You know, I'll do
- 28:25Speaker 1: this too. I'm gonna do this diet and livestock. Now
- 28:27Speaker 1: I'm excited. I'm really, you know, getting excited. And I
- 28:31Speaker 1: mean before I felt like the I just was on
- 28:34Speaker 1: the edge of the cliff and somebody was fixing it,
- 28:37Speaker 1: pushed me over, you know, I was counting my minutes.
- 28:41Speaker 1: I mean I felt like that. So anyway, the next day,
- 28:47Speaker 1: it's like three knocks on the door on one phone
- 28:51Speaker 1: call and three knocks on the door in a matter
- 28:54Speaker 1: of three days. I wouldn't be here probably today. I
- 28:59Speaker 1: just know that I feel that. The next day I
- 29:02Speaker 1: got another knock on the door and as a fellow
- 29:05Speaker 1: comes through the door and he says, well, he says James.
- 29:08Speaker 1: He says, I'm your psychotherapist. He said, I heard that
- 29:13Speaker 1: you're very depressed. You're down and out, and I wanted
- 29:17Speaker 1: to come and see if I could talk to you
- 29:19Speaker 1: for a little bit. He said, you know, is that
- 29:22Speaker 1: something that you'd be amenable to it? I said, sure,
- 29:27Speaker 1: you can come talk to me. Because I was excited
- 29:28Speaker 1: about this. I wanted to ask him about it. So
- 29:32Speaker 1: he says, I'll come back in the morning. And he says,
- 29:35Speaker 1: and then we'll sit down and talk a little bit.
- 29:37Speaker 1: And I said, that's fine. Well, I was already thinking
- 29:40Speaker 1: about what I was going to ask him. He comes
- 29:42Speaker 1: through the door the next morning and he knocks on
- 29:45Speaker 1: the door. He walks through the door. You know, the
- 29:47Speaker 1: hospital door is cracked open a little bit. He comes
- 29:50Speaker 1: in and I said, have you ever heard of a
- 29:55Speaker 1: macrobotic diet before? And he says, hold on a second.
- 30:01Speaker 1: He starts going out the door, and I mean he
- 30:05Speaker 1: went down out in the hallway, and I thought, what
- 30:08Speaker 1: is he doing, you know, see leaving what I guess
- 30:11Speaker 1: I said the wrong thing here. He comes back in
- 30:15Speaker 1: the door and shuts the door quietly to He comes
- 30:18Speaker 1: over and he sits down in a chair next to me.
- 30:22Speaker 1: He says, well, I have heard about it, but I
- 30:25Speaker 1: don't want to tell you anything about it or what
- 30:28Speaker 1: I know about it, until you promise you won't tell
- 30:31Speaker 1: anybody that I spoke to you about this. He said.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I don't want to lose my job and my pension
- 30:37Speaker 1: and all that. He said, I've been here like twenty
- 30:41Speaker 1: years or whatever. I can't remember twenty twenty five years.
- 30:45Speaker 1: He says to me, he says, I've heard a lot
- 30:49Speaker 1: of good things about this. He said, a lot of
- 30:52Speaker 1: people have done very well with this. He said, I've
- 30:56Speaker 1: talked to people that have really done well with this
- 31:01Speaker 1: and with cancer. He said. I tried it myself, he said,
- 31:08Speaker 1: but I couldn't stick with it. I don't have cancer.
- 31:10Speaker 1: I just wanted it healthier. He said. It takes a
- 31:13Speaker 1: lot of work. He said, it's a lot to this thing.
- 31:15Speaker 1: You got to cook a lot of dishes, and there's
- 31:18Speaker 1: all these different you know, four or five six dishes
- 31:23Speaker 1: at each meal, and all this kind of stuff. He said,
- 31:26Speaker 1: it takes a lot of work. He said, Now, by
- 31:29Speaker 1: the way, you don't seem so depressed. He said, I
- 31:32Speaker 1: heard you were really down and out by some of
- 31:34Speaker 1: the nurses. And he said, you don't seem seemed kind
- 31:37Speaker 1: of uppity, a little bit like excited about something. What's
- 31:41Speaker 1: going on. I said, well, I'm excited about you know,
- 31:45Speaker 1: the possibilities here. And he says, well, you know, you
- 31:50Speaker 1: might be the one that could do this. He said,
- 31:52Speaker 1: you're young enough. You seem determined, and he said, but
- 31:57Speaker 1: you've got to do it the right way. There's the
- 32:00Speaker 1: right way to do it, in the wrong way. He said,
- 32:02Speaker 1: you can't halfway do it. You got to do it,
- 32:05Speaker 1: go all out. You got to roll up your sleeves.
- 32:08Speaker 1: He said. People don't do well when they do it
- 32:11Speaker 1: sort of part time and you know, cut corners and
- 32:16Speaker 1: I used to call it cheating, you know, on the diet.
- 32:18Speaker 1: So he said, you can't do that. He says, you
- 32:22Speaker 1: have got to be very strict, and if you do that,
- 32:26Speaker 1: I think you will do very well. Well, now I'm
- 32:29Speaker 1: really excited because the guy's doing all this stuff and
- 32:32Speaker 1: closing the door and he's I'm onto something. I'm really
- 32:36Speaker 1: onto something. So I decided, well, I'll do this diet,
- 32:40Speaker 1: I'll do the lifestyle, I'll do the vitamin C, and
- 32:43Speaker 1: I'll do the chemotherapy because if the little is good,
- 32:46Speaker 1: a lot's better. Well I didn't he didn't say don't
- 32:48Speaker 1: do the chemo. You know, of course. So I got
- 32:53Speaker 1: through that first treatment, and I mean it was I
- 32:57Speaker 1: was miserable, but I got home and two months later,
- 33:01Speaker 1: before I knew it, I kind of was. I was
- 33:03Speaker 1: really reading a lot about all this, and I wanted
- 33:06Speaker 1: I started started it a little bit, but I wasn't
- 33:10Speaker 1: fully recovered from the surgery and all this, and I
- 33:13Speaker 1: was really trying my best. I was at my mother's house,
- 33:17Speaker 1: and at this time, I was living up in Dallas, Texas.
- 33:21Speaker 1: I was, you know, working at it with some a
- 33:25Speaker 1: group of friends, and I just thought that I needed
- 33:28Speaker 1: to get away after my wife left me and I
- 33:30Speaker 1: went up there. But anyway, I'm down here and just
- 33:34Speaker 1: north of Houston at my mother's and I'm doing what
- 33:37Speaker 1: I can do. But before I knew it was two
- 33:39Speaker 1: months later, and it's time to go in do more,
- 33:44Speaker 1: you know, So I'm I'm I'm game. I'm going to
- 33:47Speaker 1: do it. So I go in and I mean they
- 33:51Speaker 1: must have doubled or tripled this stuff because I'd never
- 33:54Speaker 1: been so sick in my life, and I I had
- 33:58Speaker 1: probably on the fourth day. I just I didn't know
- 34:00Speaker 1: what I was going to do. I'm laying there in
- 34:02Speaker 1: the hospital and I'm laying there and I remember one
- 34:06Speaker 1: day I couldn't eat or I couldn't eat or you know,
- 34:11Speaker 1: keep anything in my stomach, and I felt like I
- 34:14Speaker 1: had the worst flu I'd ever had in my life.
- 34:17Speaker 1: And I remember a nurse came in and said, oh
- 34:20Speaker 1: my god, his temperature is too high. Who's been watching
- 34:23Speaker 1: this man's temperature? And I'm you know, I'm just lethargic
- 34:28Speaker 1: out of it, and I just felt like I was
- 34:32Speaker 1: dead almost, you know. And she comes in. They start
- 34:35Speaker 1: putting all these cold blankets on me, and the ice
- 34:38Speaker 1: packs and all this stuff, and there was several of them,
- 34:41Speaker 1: and she says, we've got to watch him. You can't
- 34:43Speaker 1: let this temperature get this high. I said, this could
- 34:47Speaker 1: kill him. You know, this was way too high. I
- 34:50Speaker 1: don't know what it was. I just remember that. And
- 34:52Speaker 1: I said to myself then and I was so just,
- 34:56Speaker 1: you know, just had no life in me hardly. I said,
- 34:58Speaker 1: I got to get out of here. I've got to
- 35:01Speaker 1: get out of this hospital. So the doctor comes in
- 35:07Speaker 1: a little bit after that, and I said, doctor, I said,
- 35:10Speaker 1: you know, I'm sick. I'm really sick with this stuff.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Isn't there something else I can do? And he said no,
- 35:17Speaker 1: it's all we know to do. I said, what about
- 35:21Speaker 1: vitamin C and special diets and all that, and there's
- 35:24Speaker 1: something I can do to boost my immune system and
- 35:28Speaker 1: all that, and he goes, no, that works. He said,
- 35:31Speaker 1: it's just a waste of time. And he's not going
- 35:34Speaker 1: to help you. And I said, well, what what would
- 35:37Speaker 1: you do if it was your son or daughter? He goes,
- 35:40Speaker 1: I do the same thing. That's all we know to do.
- 35:44Speaker 1: And I said, doctor, I could die in here with
- 35:46Speaker 1: this stuff. This is I felt like I was going
- 35:49Speaker 1: to die the other you know earlier. He says, well,
- 35:53Speaker 1: we're all going to die someday, just like that, and
- 35:56Speaker 1: it just made me so mad. Here I'm weak, I'm
- 35:59Speaker 1: into bed. I mean, I really didn't have any energy
- 36:02Speaker 1: at all, and I was just sick and nauseous, and
- 36:07Speaker 1: he says, you know, I'm sorry, and you know that's
- 36:12Speaker 1: and then I just got I raised up in that
- 36:14Speaker 1: bed and I got mad and I called him an
- 36:16Speaker 1: sob and I said, if I could get out of
- 36:19Speaker 1: this bed, I'd tear you apart. I mean I was mad.
- 36:22Speaker 1: I said, he took my hope away. He took my
- 36:25Speaker 1: you know, I was trying to and it's just negative
- 36:28Speaker 1: and trying to, you know, restore all this fear I'd had.
- 36:33Speaker 1: And he when I said that to him, he looked
- 36:38Speaker 1: at me and he walked right out of the door.
- 36:40Speaker 1: He looked like he'd seen a ghost. And I mean
- 36:43Speaker 1: he really did. And I never heard from that doctor
- 36:46Speaker 1: for until two years later, and they wanted to know
- 36:49Speaker 1: if I was still alive his office, and my ex
- 36:53Speaker 1: wife they called her. She said, yes, he is now
- 36:55Speaker 1: no thanks to you, you know. And so I had
- 37:00Speaker 1: made up my mind though two nights later, because the
- 37:05Speaker 1: next night I had to get a little energy. I
- 37:08Speaker 1: didn't do any more chemo after that, and they wanted
- 37:11Speaker 1: me to stay in hospital for another few days to recover.
- 37:15Speaker 1: I said, I'm out of here. I'm getting out of here.
- 37:17Speaker 1: And I snuck out of hospital at two in the
- 37:19Speaker 1: morning and I just you know, had to get out
- 37:23Speaker 1: of there, and I you know, went up the stairs,
- 37:26Speaker 1: down the stairs, and you know, kind of snuck around
- 37:31Speaker 1: where the North station couldn't see me, and and put
- 37:35Speaker 1: my clothes on and went and drove well out the
- 37:36Speaker 1: parking lot and got my jeep and drove off and
- 37:40Speaker 1: went to my mother's house. And you know, I was
- 37:43Speaker 1: so sick that I stopped twice on the road just
- 37:46Speaker 1: to have to throw up. You know. It was terrible.
- 37:50Speaker 1: So anyway, after that, I said, from this time on,
- 37:54Speaker 1: I'm going to roll my sleeves up. I'm not going
- 37:57Speaker 1: back to the hospital. I'm done with these treatments. I'm
- 38:01Speaker 1: going all out, I'm going microbotic. I'm going you know,
- 38:05Speaker 1: if it doesn't work for me, it's not going to
- 38:07Speaker 1: work for anybody else. That was my battle cry. And
- 38:11Speaker 1: I said that at that point that I wasn't gonna
- 38:16Speaker 1: do it the wrong way. I was going to do
- 38:18Speaker 1: it the right way. Is that that does psychotherapists told me,
- 38:23Speaker 1: and and uh And I wouldn't. I wasn't going to
- 38:26Speaker 1: give into it. And if it didn't work for me,
- 38:28Speaker 1: it wasn't because I didn't put one hundred and fifty
- 38:30Speaker 1: percent into it, you know. And uh and I I
- 38:35Speaker 1: just got embedded and you know, and changing my lifestyle,
- 38:40Speaker 1: changing everything, reading everything he get a hold of, uh
- 38:45Speaker 1: and and the journey just was it's it's quite a
- 38:48Speaker 1: journey that that goes on and on and on up
- 38:51Speaker 1: to this day. Really, But but that's that's kind of
- 38:57Speaker 1: the the first part of the story. Anyway.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I loved your story. Like I said, I couldn't
- 39:04Speaker 2: put your book down when I when I picked it up. Seriously,
- 39:07Speaker 2: it was that good. When you look back at your journey,
- 39:13Speaker 2: was healing more about finding one breakthrough or was it
- 39:16Speaker 2: really about making many small changes over time.
- 39:21Speaker 1: It's really about making a lot of changes over time.
- 39:24Speaker 1: And you know, it's because it's really about the things
- 39:29Speaker 1: I've learned over the years that you know, you have
- 39:32Speaker 1: to do whatever it takes. And you can't do one
- 39:36Speaker 1: thing or two things. You've got to go to battle,
- 39:39Speaker 1: go to war, whatever you want to call it, because
- 39:41Speaker 1: you're fighting fighting an enemy that's not very nice, and
- 39:45Speaker 1: and you can't be the mister nice guy. You know.
- 39:48Speaker 1: I tend to be nice and kind of want everybody
- 39:52Speaker 1: to like me and all that kind of stuff sometimes,
- 39:54Speaker 1: but this you can't be like that. And I met
- 39:57Speaker 1: a lot of cancer people that were really nice, and
- 40:00Speaker 1: they you know, they weren't they were really you get
- 40:03Speaker 1: some some of these people are so honoring. I don't
- 40:05Speaker 1: think they'll ever get cancer, you know. But but the
- 40:09Speaker 1: thing is is that you have to do whatever it takes.
- 40:13Speaker 1: And and I learned that, and I kind of learned
- 40:16Speaker 1: that it's diet, it's detox detoxification, supplementation, and it's also
- 40:24Speaker 1: about you know, getting getting to uh the higher, a
- 40:29Speaker 1: higher place, you know, as far as your uh uh
- 40:35Speaker 1: spiritual mental, psychological, I guess you could say your spirit
- 40:42Speaker 1: spirit you know, basically, I like to say, feed thy
- 40:46Speaker 1: spirit a little bit, you know, and it's emotional stuff
- 40:50Speaker 1: has to be healed. And in other words that once
- 40:53Speaker 1: you start to get the results coming in, you start
- 40:55Speaker 1: to feel better, you start to have more energy. And
- 40:58Speaker 1: it took me about three months to get to where
- 41:01Speaker 1: I really actually felt better, like really better, that I
- 41:05Speaker 1: started to believe that I was on the right track,
- 41:08Speaker 1: really believe. And when you start to believe that, I
- 41:11Speaker 1: believe it's fifty percent or more when it comes to
- 41:14Speaker 1: cancer's believing in what you're doing, because how can you
- 41:17Speaker 1: believe when there's some people do, but when they're giving
- 41:20Speaker 1: all this poison. And I've learned over the years that
- 41:26Speaker 1: cancer is really an immune problem, immune system problem, whether
- 41:32Speaker 1: it's melanoma, whether or whatever it is. It's like everybody's
- 41:37Speaker 1: got cancer in their body and all through life. And
- 41:42Speaker 1: there's something called the cancer cascade that I kind of
- 41:46Speaker 1: really really think of a lot, and it's about how
- 41:52Speaker 1: cancer's developed in the body and how important it is
- 41:57Speaker 1: to keep it under wraps with with immune community. And
- 42:03Speaker 1: a good healthy diet doesn't have to be necessarily what
- 42:07Speaker 1: I did, but a good healthy diet that's low on
- 42:10Speaker 1: on sugar, you know, high on foods that promote good diet,
- 42:17Speaker 1: you know, the good gut health that's so important. And
- 42:21Speaker 1: a lot of people are are not strict enough with
- 42:24Speaker 1: their diet and whether they're you know, I'm not necessarily
- 42:30Speaker 1: a total fan of of uh, you know, the same
- 42:33Speaker 1: diet for everybody. You know, some people are vegans, some
- 42:36Speaker 1: people are are keyto keto is a big thing, they're
- 42:42Speaker 1: some people are eating I mean, there's different diets called
- 42:46Speaker 1: different things. But to me, it's all about keeping you know,
- 42:51Speaker 1: eating healthy perciferous vegetables which are very very cancer fighting.
- 42:58Speaker 1: There's the forefeane which is in these that has been
- 43:02Speaker 1: shown to to help fight cancer. And and a lot
- 43:07Speaker 1: of people, uh, you know, you've got to have the
- 43:10Speaker 1: energy to fight it. And and the thing is is
- 43:13Speaker 1: what I've noticed is is that most people don't realize
- 43:17Speaker 1: why they have cancer in the first place. So you
- 43:20Speaker 1: have to learn that you've got to get rid of
- 43:23Speaker 1: everything that's cancer causing. And how do you do that
- 43:27Speaker 1: through detoxification, through dietary changes, through eliminating a lot of
- 43:33Speaker 1: these things that are maybe in our environment around you
- 43:37Speaker 1: clean you got to clean house, You got to change
- 43:40Speaker 1: your diet. In my book, I talk about the things
- 43:43Speaker 1: I do now to stay cancer free. But you know,
- 43:47Speaker 1: the thing I find is that beating cancer or keeping
- 43:52Speaker 1: cancer at bay, let's just say that, you know, because
- 43:55Speaker 1: the battle really never ends, all of us should be
- 43:59Speaker 1: taking care of oursus more because, as I said earlier,
- 44:02Speaker 1: the cancer cascade is like, we've all got cancer sales,
- 44:06Speaker 1: but our immune systems taking care of it, keeping it
- 44:09Speaker 1: under wraps to a certain level. And as we get
- 44:13Speaker 1: more toxic build up in our system and more stress
- 44:16Speaker 1: in our lives and more exposure to just you know,
- 44:21Speaker 1: all kinds of things in the environment and just the
- 44:26Speaker 1: stress and everything that we go through, then that the
- 44:29Speaker 1: immune system gets weaker and weaker and weaker. The other
- 44:33Speaker 1: thing I found is a really big problem with people
- 44:36Speaker 1: with cancer, because I've learned a lot through the years
- 44:39Speaker 1: that the immune system is affected so much by all
- 44:46Speaker 1: these these toxins and things that overload it. And the
- 44:50Speaker 1: other thing is people are eating way too much sugar,
- 44:53Speaker 1: way too much foods that promote candida. And I mean,
- 44:58Speaker 1: some people claim that cancer has a lot to do
- 45:01Speaker 1: with candida. I don't know that. I've interviewed a lot
- 45:05Speaker 1: of people at Templeton Wellness I talk about a lot
- 45:08Speaker 1: of things. In my book, I talk about all the things.
- 45:10Speaker 1: There's a list of things in there that I used,
- 45:13Speaker 1: but there's a lot of new things out there that
- 45:15Speaker 1: are very interesting that I find that. For example, a
- 45:21Speaker 1: portion of this interview has been removed due to YouTube's
- 45:24Speaker 1: content policies. I would be doing all the things I've
- 45:27Speaker 1: talked about, and then you want to you know, build
- 45:31Speaker 1: up your gut, gut health, your intestinal flora, which is
- 45:36Speaker 1: important from fermented healthy fermented foods, because your your gut
- 45:42Speaker 1: is eighty percent of your immunity, and you know, your
- 45:46Speaker 1: your immune sales are as far as I'm concerned or
- 45:50Speaker 1: key when it comes to fighting cancer, because you've got
- 45:54Speaker 1: you know, your your T cells, your white blood cells.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Your T cells are white blood cells, your natural killer
- 46:03Speaker 1: cells you're you know, are so important for killing cancer cells.
- 46:10Speaker 1: And you've got to you've got to work really hard
- 46:14Speaker 1: at increasing that. I mean, I like to drink green
- 46:17Speaker 1: tea a lot. I drink a lot of green tea.
- 46:20Speaker 1: You know, the EGCG which is in green tea is
- 46:24Speaker 1: very important. And uh cancer has been found also to
- 46:29Speaker 1: be a collagen disease, which is that weaken collagen. Cancer
- 46:37Speaker 1: can spread through the connective tissue. And uh that's why
- 46:41Speaker 1: vitamin C. Vitamin C helps build collagen. I actually take
- 46:47Speaker 1: collagen by itself, really really healthy, very well absorbed collagen
- 46:55Speaker 1: and on a daily basis, but also proline, demino acid, proleine,
- 47:01Speaker 1: the amino acid lysine which is which are the lysine
- 47:07Speaker 1: is not produced by the body, and lysine is is
- 47:13Speaker 1: very important for building collagen and EGCG and all those
- 47:19Speaker 1: together have been in some studies. There was a fifteen
- 47:23Speaker 1: year study that they've kind of tried to foo foo on,
- 47:27Speaker 1: you know, and that was done by doctor Elinis Pauling
- 47:32Speaker 1: that I talked about and the doctor Matthias Wrath, which
- 47:38Speaker 1: was a research doctor that worked with him very closely.
- 47:41Speaker 1: They did a fifteen year study back and a number
- 47:46Speaker 1: of years ago. But of cancer. They had about twenty
- 47:50Speaker 1: four different types of cancer that that combination they used.
- 47:55Speaker 1: It's about that's about where it was. That combination Uh
- 48:00Speaker 1: stopped cancers tracks for the majority of these people because
- 48:04Speaker 1: it stopped it from spreading. See, cancer, it's not gonna
- 48:08Speaker 1: hurt you if it sits in one spot. Usually what
- 48:11Speaker 1: happens is it spreads, it goes to organs it's creates
- 48:15Speaker 1: all this inflammation and starts to uh rake havoc on
- 48:21Speaker 1: you know, rep havoc on your your your system, you know,
- 48:26Speaker 1: and your and the immune system just can't deal with it.
- 48:29Speaker 1: So it's all about the it's all about the uh,
- 48:33Speaker 1: the collagen, the immunity. Uh. It's about you know, day
- 48:38Speaker 1: to day to day, you know, to to just really
- 48:41Speaker 1: keep things strong, I mean wise. Yeah.
- 48:46Speaker 2: And one of the biggest I guess what I guess
- 48:50Speaker 2: what stood out to me in your book was your
- 48:52Speaker 2: advice not to panic after hearing the word cancer. You
- 48:56Speaker 2: encourage people to slow down, to educate themselves and to
- 49:00Speaker 2: understand their options before making major decisions. I think that
- 49:06Speaker 2: was really important too.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Yeah, because a lot of people they go to the doctor,
- 49:12Speaker 1: and most of us fine cancer with a commissional doctor.
- 49:16Speaker 1: And I'm not saying the conventional doctors are all bad,
- 49:19Speaker 1: but you know, I some people think I'm just so
- 49:22Speaker 1: anti this and that, but I'm not. But you know,
- 49:26Speaker 1: sometimes we need doctors, especially if you have an accident
- 49:29Speaker 1: or car accident or something. You know, you need doctors.
- 49:33Speaker 1: And there's a lot of science out there's you know,
- 49:36Speaker 1: heart problems. I mean, there's a lot of things that
- 49:38Speaker 1: they're good for, but they really haven't won the battle
- 49:42Speaker 1: on cancer, and they they push people into making these
- 49:48Speaker 1: decisions out of fear. People are frightened. You know, when
- 49:52Speaker 1: you're told these three words you know, you have cancer,
- 49:56Speaker 1: it's scary for people. Some people say, oh, it didn't
- 49:59Speaker 1: bother me, but sure bothered me. You know, I I'm
- 50:02Speaker 1: just not I guess I'm not tough enough to handle it.
- 50:05Speaker 1: You know, on that kind of level, it's scary. But
- 50:10Speaker 1: they'll say, well, we need to really get aggressive and
- 50:12Speaker 1: we need to get get schedule you for chemotherapy and surgery.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Sometimes you need surgery because surgery is important. Sometimes if
- 50:21Speaker 1: there's pressure or put on somewhere and you got but
- 50:24Speaker 1: you don't do surgery and to go home and wait
- 50:26Speaker 1: and see what happens. You got to get jump in
- 50:29Speaker 1: there and start doing something immediately. You don't want it
- 50:32Speaker 1: to come back. You don't want it to spread. The
- 50:35Speaker 1: spreading is what does it. But when you when you're
- 50:39Speaker 1: making a decision like that, you know, always take someone
- 50:44Speaker 1: with you. You know, don't be there by yourself. Take someone
- 50:48Speaker 1: with you that can maybe take some notes, you know,
- 50:51Speaker 1: where you can really listen and see what you're up against.
- 50:54Speaker 1: But I find that, you know, get a second opinion too,
- 50:59Speaker 1: because a lot of people they get this, one person,
- 51:03Speaker 1: you have this, we need to do that. Well, maybe
- 51:06Speaker 1: somebody else might think something else. Will at least know
- 51:08Speaker 1: what's where you stand on that side, you know, on
- 51:15Speaker 1: Commissional Medicine thinking, and then educate yourself because go to
- 51:24Speaker 1: my site or probably other sites Templeton Wellness where we've
- 51:30Speaker 1: interviewed the top experts. I think most of them, not
- 51:35Speaker 1: all of them, but there's a lot of them. I
- 51:38Speaker 1: like interviewing doctors that have seen the light, they've gone
- 51:43Speaker 1: over and they're starting to work with cancer, you know,
- 51:47Speaker 1: alternative cancer, natural therapies, and they have seen things at work,
- 51:52Speaker 1: and they've been around for twenty five, thirty, forty fifty years.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Some of them they've been working with people and they've
- 52:00Speaker 1: got a good track record. Well, I interview those people.
- 52:03Speaker 1: I also interview other people like myself that have overcome
- 52:10Speaker 1: a lot of them stayed four cancer and pancreatic cancer,
- 52:14Speaker 1: which is a tough one for people think oh well,
- 52:16Speaker 1: I'm I'm a it's it's not not good. I got
- 52:21Speaker 1: pancreatic cancer. I might not be around this time next year.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Don't think that there's a lot you can do. I
- 52:29Speaker 1: mean I interview people that specialize in cant and the
- 52:33Speaker 1: pancreatic cancer, and you know pancreatic cancer a lot of
- 52:38Speaker 1: times is because the enzymes that I call it the
- 52:42Speaker 1: enzyme bank produced by your pancreas naturally are and enzymes
- 52:50Speaker 1: are one of your body's biggest defense mechanisms against cancer.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Because cancer, when it gathers together and creates tumors, the
- 52:58Speaker 1: sales after you get a certain amount, they start to
- 53:01Speaker 1: get there's a five ringgein layer that they form little
- 53:05Speaker 1: tumors and they start to get bigger and bigger and
- 53:07Speaker 1: bigger and bigger. Well, that five randage and layer gets
- 53:10Speaker 1: it's almost like a mue coastal the mute coastal lining.
- 53:14Speaker 1: It looks like kind of like that to the immune system,
- 53:18Speaker 1: and the immune system will sort of shine away from
- 53:21Speaker 1: it because he doesn't think there's a real problem there.
- 53:24Speaker 1: And so the enzymes designed to go in and strip
- 53:28Speaker 1: that layer off, so it the immune system says, oh,
- 53:31Speaker 1: that's not a healthy sale, let's get it. So that's important.
- 53:36Speaker 1: But there's people I've interviewed that have had great results.
- 53:39Speaker 1: You know, it's it's a different program, but you got
- 53:42Speaker 1: to you still got to roll up your Sleeves's a
- 53:44Speaker 1: lot of things you do, but you change your lifestyle.
- 53:47Speaker 1: It depends on how much how bad someone wants to
- 53:50Speaker 1: be around, you know, and stick around. I've interviewed people
- 53:53Speaker 1: twenty thirty years with pancreatic cancer and they're still alive
- 53:58Speaker 1: and they're still doing well. I mean, I know some
- 54:01Speaker 1: me its just I mean I know people that personally
- 54:05Speaker 1: that had it and they weren't around but six or
- 54:08Speaker 1: seven months. You know, It's just depends on the person.
- 54:12Speaker 1: But but you need to really educate yourself so you
- 54:17Speaker 1: can make a better decision. Because that's what we do
- 54:20Speaker 1: at Templeton Welles. We give people hope, and hope is
- 54:25Speaker 1: knowing there is a better way. And it's all up
- 54:29Speaker 1: to end of each individual. How hard are they willing
- 54:32Speaker 1: to work at it? It's all about it. It's not
- 54:36Speaker 1: so hard. It's just making a lot of changes, and
- 54:38Speaker 1: it's about being willing to you know, forget about the
- 54:45Speaker 1: past and all that. I mean, your how would habits
- 54:49Speaker 1: make changes? You know, are you willing to do that?
- 54:51Speaker 1: Is it worth it to you? I mean, I could
- 54:53Speaker 1: see someone eighty five years old that says, I don't
- 54:56Speaker 1: want to do that, and I don't want to give
- 54:57Speaker 1: up my chocolate cake and ice cream every day, you know.
- 55:01Speaker 1: But you know, that's why when we first started talking
- 55:06Speaker 1: about I said that people don't not really understand what
- 55:09Speaker 1: cancer caused the cancer in the first place. It's all
- 55:12Speaker 1: a lot of the stuff that we talk about, and
- 55:15Speaker 1: they think, well, you know, all the drinking and and
- 55:19Speaker 1: all the everything just feeds, feeds feeds, and it feeds
- 55:24Speaker 1: all the toxins in the system that are a load
- 55:28Speaker 1: on the immune system. And cancer thrives on a weekend
- 55:33Speaker 1: immune system. It thrives and it's going to continue. And
- 55:37Speaker 1: you've got you've got to get that that revved up
- 55:40Speaker 1: and keep it revved up. And I mean some days
- 55:44Speaker 1: you just have a down day and you just you know,
- 55:47Speaker 1: tomorrow's a new day. You know, you just you know,
- 55:51Speaker 1: take a day every once in a while and say
- 55:53Speaker 1: I'm going to have a little fun. They think that's
- 55:55Speaker 1: fun to go back and do the things they used
- 55:57Speaker 1: to do. But I'm not. So many people mia that
- 56:05Speaker 1: you know, got so called over cancer and they said,
- 56:12Speaker 1: you know, I'm going back to live the way I
- 56:14Speaker 1: used to I love my lifestyle and all that. They
- 56:16Speaker 1: go back two or three years later, there not with
- 56:19Speaker 1: us anymore, you know, are there in remission And they go, well,
- 56:23Speaker 1: my doctor says, I'm in remission. Okay, well I you know,
- 56:28Speaker 1: I he said, don't worry about don't just come in
- 56:30Speaker 1: every year or whatever. But why do that? Why not
- 56:35Speaker 1: make changes? Because they never tell people what really caused
- 56:38Speaker 1: it in the first place. It's all either makes medical
- 56:42Speaker 1: sense on one level, you know, like, oh well it's
- 56:44Speaker 1: a hereditary or oh well it's because you were you know,
- 56:49Speaker 1: in the sun too much, or well you were exposed
- 56:52Speaker 1: to this, but it's not. They don't really talk about
- 56:54Speaker 1: all that. It's all about, you know, we'll take care
- 56:57Speaker 1: of it for you, and it's it's too bad, but
- 57:02Speaker 1: it is.
- 57:04Speaker 2: You also created a Templeton List of Healthy restaurant guides.
- 57:10Speaker 2: That's and you can just click on to different parts
- 57:14Speaker 2: of the states and you can see what's healthy around
- 57:17Speaker 2: your area. That's amazing.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Yeah, we did that because for years I traveled for
- 57:22Speaker 1: business and I was trying to stay healthy and you know,
- 57:26Speaker 1: and you it's hard on the road, and I mean
- 57:31Speaker 1: it really is, and you have to ask questions. You
- 57:33Speaker 1: have to ask people that in the restaurants, can you
- 57:35Speaker 1: do it without this? And you know, because they're not
- 57:38Speaker 1: using the best of oils, they're not using them filtered
- 57:42Speaker 1: water all the time, they're not using organic vegetables, they're
- 57:45Speaker 1: not using it. I eat organic ninety nine point nine
- 57:49Speaker 1: percent of the time myself, and everyone should. But when
- 57:55Speaker 1: you go on the road, it's tough. So I wanted
- 57:57Speaker 1: to have a restaurant guide in this part of my foundation.
- 58:00Speaker 1: It's all nonprofit, it's all free, and it's just my
- 58:05Speaker 1: way of giving back to help people. And it's the
- 58:09Speaker 1: healthiest restaurants in America. And we've got almost ten thousand
- 58:15Speaker 1: or so. And you know, you still got to ask questions.
- 58:20Speaker 1: You still can't just go in and say I'll just
- 58:22Speaker 1: it's healthy, I'll eat it. You have cancer or want
- 58:25Speaker 1: to prevent cancer, you be smart, educate yourself. Now, go
- 58:29Speaker 1: out and check these out. You know, if I'm on
- 58:32Speaker 1: the road, that's what we do. We try to eat
- 58:34Speaker 1: it templon list restaurants. And you know there's and I'm
- 58:40Speaker 1: sure there's restaurants out there that aren't on our list.
- 58:43Speaker 1: So if people hear this and they want to tell
- 58:46Speaker 1: us about another restaurant. We'll get that on. We'll get
- 58:50Speaker 1: them checked out. And I have a fellow that's all
- 58:54Speaker 1: he does is check out the restaurants. He vets them
- 58:57Speaker 1: to make sure that it's the best of the best
- 59:01Speaker 1: organic farmity table. You know, we want people to be healthy,
- 59:05Speaker 1: we want people to make better choices, and we want
- 59:08Speaker 1: to give people the education. And you know, kind of
- 59:13Speaker 1: like they say, the truth shall set you free a
- 59:15Speaker 1: little bit, and it gives you a lot of hope
- 59:18Speaker 1: when you think you're on the right track, and knowing
- 59:21Speaker 1: that if they can all get over cancer, why can't they?
- 59:25Speaker 1: You know, it's like, you know, there's there's a lot.
- 59:29Speaker 1: I mean, I I know, I don't know a lot
- 59:32Speaker 1: of people that have survived for forty or fifty years
- 59:36Speaker 1: because a lot of people don't get cancer till or older.
- 59:39Speaker 1: And you know, by the time you're older, you've built
- 59:42Speaker 1: up an awful lot of toxic overload in your system.
- 59:47Speaker 1: And I think that's why people get sick of the
- 59:49Speaker 1: older ace man. It's a lot, and we could talk
- 59:54Speaker 1: for hours and hours and hours. I know.
- 59:57Speaker 2: Thank you, though, James for joining today. It's truly been
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: an honor to have you on this show. I appreciate

- 1:00:56Speaker 1: how I found my own way back to health. This
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: tells you my story. This is a little more in depth,
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: and it's also got you know all the information, the
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: things that I do now to stay healthy and the
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: things that I would do if I had to do
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: this all over again. And there's a few things that
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: I mentioned that aren't in here. And it's to me,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: it's a no brainer. You know, it's just something you
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: do along with the other things. You know, mix it
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: and you're smoothie. Whatever I do. I do all this
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: stuff myself, and and you know, but Templeton Wellness dot
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Com check it out, check out our interviews with the
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: doctors and the experts, and you you can educate yourself
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: really fast because it doesn't take but two or three
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: days to really get a sense of really what's going on.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: And and you know, just you'll understand why you got it,
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: and you won't mind rolling your sleeves up and doing
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: the work because you know you're not wasting your time.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: You're you're you're you're going to be a rat a
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: long time. It's kind of the battle never ends. As
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: I said earlier, you just it's just being healthy is
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: not something that you get healthy, and they needed to
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: get quit. It's trick no matter what. You know. It's
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: like keeping your weight down. You know, if you if
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: you just you get people lose weight and then they
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: you know, they go back and go, well, I had
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: too much fun this summer and I went off and
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: there it comes again. I mean, that's fine. You can
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: do what you want your your life and your body.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: But That's how I look at it. And but you
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: know that if it's cancer, you can't get get too
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: far away from from the path with it, you know,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: because it'll it'll come back and haunt you. It's you know,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: I don't know if people totally ever get rid of
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: it totally, because we all have those cells, but I
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: mean the excess you bring it down there where the
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: immune system says, okay, we can handle this. That's the key,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: just like before, like when we were young, or when whenever,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: and when we're ablatively healthier. People that don't have cancer,
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: their immune system is keeping it down to the level
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: that's not detectable by conventional medicine, and it's not going
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: to as long as it's not in a tumor and spreading.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: It's not going to hurt you, you know. But it's
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: just the way it is. People have it, and there's
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: no such thing as like, well, he has cancer, but
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: I don't. He has detectable cancer. And that's how I
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: look at I feel that. So anyway, it's an interesting
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: thing to learn about.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: So yes, well, James, thank you again. Is truly a
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: pleasure having you on the show, and I wish you'd
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: continued to success with the foundation and all the life
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: you're helping. So I'd love to have you back again
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: on the future.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: So oh I love it. Thank you, thank you, keep
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: some good work you're doing.

- 1:04:13Speaker 2: you on the next one. Hue Hoca cole Byecome.

- 1:04:57Speaker 3: a sweet time. Don't want being the one to cross

- 1:05:13Speaker 4: my father into again. Tell me it isn't too soon,
