- 0:48Speaker 1: world's strongest man Mark Henry. That is right as they
- 0:52Speaker 1: get you ready for Longhorns football. That's tomorrow's Sports Radio
- 0:56Speaker 1: AM thirteen hundred Zone and the free radio app is
- 0:59Speaker 1: your place for that. As well as Dan Mullen, former
- 1:04Speaker 1: coach of the Florida Gators. He gives a very interesting
- 1:08Speaker 1: take on the Big ten and can we knock off
- 1:11Speaker 1: two teams this weekend. We'll see if that happens. But
- 1:14Speaker 1: we got to talk about one. Aaron Judge. So the
- 1:18Speaker 1: New York Yankees have had a storied, storied history. And
- 1:22Speaker 1: I'm doing this because it's it is The Craig Way Show,
- 1:25Speaker 1: and it wouldn't feel right if I didn't give Aaron
- 1:27Speaker 1: Judge and Sho Heo Tani the love that they deserve.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Because Shoeotani is on the team that just won the
- 1:36Speaker 1: World Series, it's also happens to be the team that
- 1:39Speaker 1: Craig Way roots for. I don't know how he has
- 1:41Speaker 1: time to watch as many baseball games as he does,
- 1:43Speaker 1: but he calls Texas Longhorn baseball as well as just
- 1:46Speaker 1: everything else that he does. But he finds time to
- 1:50Speaker 1: have a favorite baseball team as well. My favorite team
- 1:55Speaker 1: is the New York Yankees. So when I saw the
- 1:57Speaker 1: Aaron Judge and Showhy both win the MVP, I wasn't surprised,
- 2:03Speaker 1: but I was. I felt like we were kindred spirits.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I was telling Ronald earlier when Craig was on the
- 2:10Speaker 1: show in the last segment. If you missed it, you
- 2:12Speaker 1: can go back and listen to the podcast version of it.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Craig cames on the show. He's always great. I love
- 2:18Speaker 1: filling in for Craig way any chance I get to
- 2:21Speaker 1: fill in for him, I am over the moon. But
- 2:24Speaker 1: there's a generational divide between Craig and Mark Henry and
- 2:29Speaker 1: Mike Carge and myself. We agree on a ton between
- 2:33Speaker 1: the four of us, but I feel like there's sometimes
- 2:36Speaker 1: where we're almost lined up exactly and then there's a
- 2:38Speaker 1: zag or a zig and I just happened to be
- 2:42Speaker 1: the zim and all that we were so close on
- 2:45Speaker 1: agreeing on the college football playoffs. We're so close. But anyway,
- 2:49Speaker 1: so Shoho Tani. He's the UNIANIYMSS MVP. After winning the
- 2:53Speaker 1: sweepstakes to get him, the LA Dodgers got one of
- 2:55Speaker 1: the best seasons in the history of baseball, a fifty
- 2:59Speaker 1: four home run season with fifty nine stolen bases, something
- 3:03Speaker 1: has never been done before. Otani becomes the twelfth player
- 3:07Speaker 1: to win three MVPs, and the second to do it
- 3:10Speaker 1: with in seven seasons. He joins one stan Usual. He
- 3:14Speaker 1: also joins one other player to win an MVP in
- 3:18Speaker 1: the National League and the American League. It's one of
- 3:21Speaker 1: the greatest hitters of all time. Frank Robinson. But I
- 3:24Speaker 1: thought that the Aaron Judge winning of the MVP really
- 3:30Speaker 1: solidified him in a very special class. Now this is
- 3:33Speaker 1: Aaron Judge. After winning his MVP award yesterday, he did
- 3:38Speaker 1: an interview with Sports Center at six. Do you have
- 3:43Speaker 1: it the cut here, Khalil, It's number twelve?
- 3:46Speaker 2: An incredible honor. You know, I definitely wouldn't wouldn't be
- 3:49Speaker 2: here without my family, my wife. You know, God forgive
- 3:52Speaker 2: me this opportunity. My teammates throughout the whole season, you know,
- 3:55Speaker 2: pushing me, motivating me, being there. For me, it's just
- 3:59Speaker 2: a lot of emotions and just pretty excited.
- 4:02Speaker 1: So how do you sort of compare your production compared
- 4:04Speaker 1: to twenty twenty two?
- 4:06Speaker 2: For me, the game is all about scoring runs. You know,
- 4:08Speaker 2: you drive more runs and you give up, you're gonna
- 4:10Speaker 2: win a lot of ball games. So, you know, for me,
- 4:13Speaker 2: it's always about RBI's, you know, that's how you win
- 4:15Speaker 2: ball games. And you know, getting a chance to hit
- 4:17Speaker 2: behind Juan Soto, you know, Glaber tours there at the
- 4:19Speaker 2: end of the year, those guys around base constantly.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I like that he kind of slipped in there. The
- 4:24Speaker 1: Juant Sodo part of it because the Yankees are still
- 4:26Speaker 1: very much trying to bring Sodo back. It's between them,
- 4:30Speaker 1: the Mets and the Dodgers at this point. I would
- 4:33Speaker 1: think that that shout out maybe helps Aaron Judge, maybe
- 4:36Speaker 1: Tex Soda on the side. Hey, you see that shouty
- 4:39Speaker 1: on my MVP speech. Judge led the majors and home
- 4:42Speaker 1: runs with fifty eight, RBIs with one forty four, and
- 4:44Speaker 1: on base percentage with one one five nine, which is
- 4:49Speaker 1: absolutely incredible, and his wins over replacement eleven point two
- 4:53Speaker 1: was outstanding. He joins only Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds
- 4:57Speaker 1: to have fifty home runs and adjusted ops two hundred
- 5:00Speaker 1: to more. All that cool nerves stuff is fine. Here's
- 5:03Speaker 1: what you care about. He's only the seventh Yankee to
- 5:06Speaker 1: win multiple MVPs. We did this earlier in the morning.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Alex Rodriguez, Roger Marris.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Only two of those guys are not Hall of famers.
- 5:18Speaker 1: It's a Rod because of the Royds. It's Roger Marris
- 5:21Speaker 1: because for whatever reason, people aren't giving him the credit
- 5:24Speaker 1: that he deserves. Before Judge Mantle, his nineteen fifty six
- 5:28Speaker 1: season was the only one in Yankee history to yield
- 5:31Speaker 1: a unanimous MVP vote. He also joins Luke Errig and
- 5:35Speaker 1: Thurman Munson as the only two Yankee captains to win
- 5:40Speaker 1: the MVP while being the captain of said Yankees. By far,
- 5:47Speaker 1: the only thing missing from his resume is that elusive
- 5:53Speaker 1: World Series ring. And at the end of the day,
- 5:56Speaker 1: we were arguing this morning about it. At the end
- 5:58Speaker 1: of the day, all those guys have their numbers retired
- 6:01Speaker 1: in some way or another. When you talk about bearra
- 6:04Speaker 1: and when we talk about Mantle and you talk about DiMaggio,
- 6:08Speaker 1: all those guys are cemented in pinstripe in Yankee lore.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Those are the guys we talk about the pride of
- 6:15Speaker 1: the Yankees. Aaron Judge is this close, this close to
- 6:21Speaker 1: joining that group. In fact, if you take away the
- 6:26Speaker 1: entire season, if you stripped it down, this is the
- 6:31Speaker 1: when he needed after the World Series that he had
- 6:36Speaker 1: because that World Series performance was a stinker for the Ages.
- 6:41Speaker 1: In fact, that fifth Inning era error. I know, we
- 6:45Speaker 1: talked about it after the World Series, and you know,
- 6:47Speaker 1: Craig was like, well, you know, it's just not one play.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I understand that I can get behind that. It's not
- 6:52Speaker 1: just one play. But Yankees fans don't get behind that. Okay,
- 6:57Speaker 1: I can't because I'm a rational individual and enough time
- 6:59Speaker 1: has passed in the moment I was like that cost
- 7:01Speaker 1: us the World Series and winning the MVP is great,
- 7:09Speaker 1: and it's a win that he deserves because he had
- 7:12Speaker 1: the type of season that he had. But don't get
- 7:15Speaker 1: it fooled. This only adds pressure to Aaron Judge in
- 7:19Speaker 1: the New York Yankees because now he is the most
- 7:22Speaker 1: accomplished Yankee without a World Series ring. Now he joins
- 7:28Speaker 1: a group of guys who are the group you never
- 7:33Speaker 1: want to be in with. He joins the Charles Barclays
- 7:37Speaker 1: and the Karl Malones and the Barry Bonds of the
- 7:41Speaker 1: world who don't have that championship ring, who don't have
- 7:46Speaker 1: that elusive World Series title. And it's weird because, you know,
- 7:49Speaker 1: baseball never really was the sport that we looked at
- 7:52Speaker 1: when we compared home run numbers and RBIs and all
- 7:54Speaker 1: the other statistical numbers. We didn't really care that much
- 7:57Speaker 1: about the rings until very recently. But you have to
- 8:03Speaker 1: go with what you're being judged on, and winning the
- 8:06Speaker 1: World Series is the end all be all. Currently and
- 8:11Speaker 1: if Aaron, the Yankees are still gonna be very good.
- 8:13Speaker 1: You hope that they bring Sodo back if you're a
- 8:14Speaker 1: Yankee fan, But they're a very good team. Aaron Judge
- 8:18Speaker 1: needs to be so great that he makes them a
- 8:21Speaker 1: great team, and the unanimous MVP, you kind of expect
- 8:26Speaker 1: him to do that, showing Otani completely the other story.
- 8:29Speaker 1: His team wins the World Series, he doesn't even pitch
- 8:31Speaker 1: this year, and he wins the MVP unanimously. He is
- 8:34Speaker 1: at the precipice of being the greatest player of all time.
- 8:37Speaker 1: He is the only Japanese American player to win an MVP.
- 8:43Speaker 1: He becomes the first DH in both leagues to win
- 8:47Speaker 1: to win value over Replacement and joins Tai Kava is
- 8:50Speaker 1: the only player to finish within the top two in
- 8:51Speaker 1: the majors in both homers and steals. Yeah, Otani is
- 8:57Speaker 1: a special breed. When we come back, we will continue
- 9:00Speaker 1: the Craig Way Show here from Steve Starkeisian and Mark
- 9:03Speaker 1: Stoops as we get ready for Texas Longhorn football this
- 9:06Speaker 1: summer or Saturday two thirty kickoff one thirty Network pregame
- 9:12Speaker 1: right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred Zone and
