- 0:00Aloha. Thursday morning. Strong trade winds are moving in, and windward sides are getting soaked with showers. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today.
- 1:51Windward and inland areas—especially Oʻahu and Kauaʻi—will see frequent showers through the day. Leeward sides stay mostly dry. The trade winds are brisk and steady, so if you're heading to the dry side, it's a solid beach day. Your knees will thank you for skipping the windward hikes this morning.
- 2:06Oʻahu's south shore is 4.4 feet, north shore 4.6 feet—both moderate surf with strong shore break. Kauaʻi is running large at 7.1 feet, so that's experienced swimmers and surfers only. Big Island is your calmest pick at 1.4 feet, and Maui's at 3.3 feet—comfortable for most swimmers.
- 2:20Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several road and trail closures—Kahuku Unit Roads, Kīpukapuaulu Trail, and the Lava Tube Bridge are all off limits. Kīlauea remains active, and volcanic ash is a concern in downwind areas. Take the posted caution signs seriously if you're visiting the park.
- 2:34If you're planning a fall trip, our piece on the Hawaiʻi harvest calendar is worth a read. It breaks down what's ripe September through November—kona coffee, Sharwil avocados, local cacao, and the tail end of summer mangoes all overlap. Month by month, so you can time your visit around what's actually being harvested and what you'll find at farmers markets and restaurants.
- 2:53Through the weekend, expect the same pattern—steady winds, showers on windward sides, dry leeward conditions. King tides could bring minor coastal flooding Sunday into next week, so watch the forecasts if you're in low-lying beach areas.
- 3:05If you're planning a fall food trip, grab that harvest guide. Catch you tomorrow.
