- 2:15making his debut on the radio Least and here with the Bucket. How
- 2:19you doing Man? Doing great? Dave? How are you this morning?
- 2:21I'm doing fine. Thank you for agreeing to be here today. You got
- 2:23a big event going on this weekend. It's three days. It's called Bucket
- 2:28Fest, and this thing is going to be totally off the charts and I've
- 2:31been posting a lot about it on social media and you and I are going
- 2:34to get into that a little bit later on about what is bucket Fast,
- 2:37howe of the whole thing come about? Plus you get to play ten questions,
- 2:40which is a very popular feature on Friday. When I throw out ten
- 2:44questions to you to my guest host, they don't know what the questions are.
- 2:47And you got to answer the rapid fire. And you told me you've
- 2:50been doing your homework, You've been listening to past shows, so you think
- 2:53you're ready for ten questions, right? Well, I told my teachers I
- 2:55was doing my homework too, so we'll see how it turns out. Good
- 3:00answer there. Let me bring in a good friend of Hannah Garden from the
- 3:02Canal Charst You, Maine Association with this week's Adopt Me Please Pat of the
- 3:07Week. Hannah, good morning, how are you? How are you?
- 3:09I am doing fine, Hannah. This is Chris Atkins, owner of the
- 3:13Bucket and Dunbar. Chris. This is Hannah and Hannah and I were talking
- 3:15about this last night. I think we have almost half her talked in to
- 3:20ride the mechanical bull at Bucket Fest this weekend. Is okay, we can.
- 3:27We can talk to him and have him kind of take it easy on
- 3:29you. I don't think if you've met Hannah, I don't think you need
- 3:31to take it easy with Hannah. I think Hannah could probably own that thing,
- 3:35right, right? Is that right, Hannah? Right exactly? Okay.
- 3:38Now, normally we do a dog on the Adopt Me Please put of
- 3:42the Week, but this time it's a cat. And you know, cats
- 3:45are kind of special. I'm kind of a cat person anyway. I like
- 3:46dogs too, but I'm kind of a I'm a kind of a cat person.
- 3:50Um, but this this cat is is a little bit different. Pictures
- 3:54posted on Dave Aden Radio and Facebook and at Dave a seventy on Twitter,
- 3:59and we have ourselves a sad situation, but we're gonna make it better.
- 4:03The cat's name is Spud, and Spud has been through a lot. And
- 4:08if you go over to my Facebook page, Dame all on Radio or at
- 4:11Dave a seventy on Twitter, you'll see what I'm talking about with with Spud.
- 4:15Get into spud story a Hannah. Yeah, So Sud came in,
- 4:20um not too long ago, and he was actually brought in by our name
- 4:26officer from a health fire. Um, so he was actually in the house
- 4:31fire. So he went straight to our medical team and they started, you
- 4:36know, taking care of him immediately because he had a lot of severe injuries.
- 4:42Severe burns I mean on his face and his ears, and I'm not
- 4:46sure if he had any like on his body, but I know for sure
- 4:49that it was all over his face. But he when he came in,
- 4:55he was even though he had alcorns of burns and everything, he was still
- 4:59just as sweet as could be. Um, he is about again. He
- 5:03is male. I know I've been saying he but he is two years old,
- 5:06microchips, vaccinated. Um, he is healing very well. Um.
- 5:13The only thing that is hard for a cat to heal is that eye that
- 5:16you see on his picture whenever you look at it. Um, right above
- 5:19his eye, he still has burns there where he has like kind of it's
- 5:26still very and it's still in the process of healing. It still looks very
- 5:30red, still very like wet almost. Um. So he he definitely needs
- 5:35somebody who can understand you know that it's gonna heal, but it's gonna take
- 5:40a while because he likes to headbut you and you rub all over as cats
- 5:44do, as cats do, as cats do. Yeah, what is the
- 5:46healing process like that for a cat? Hannah? I mean, and I
- 5:49know you're realize you're not a plastic surgeon, but he's rich in the imagination.
- 5:53But I mean, can you expect that the cat is two years old
- 5:56that at some point that you know, the cats around it, you know,
- 5:58seven eight years old, which I hopefully it will be, especially if
- 6:00we get adopted today, that that the cat will will will be fully healed.
- 6:04Is that at some point where they be some scarring or do you know?
- 6:09Um, I'm pretty sure. It's different from what our vet said from
- 6:12like each cat is dependent on how they are during the healing process. Um.
- 6:18But for the most part, yeah, he'll be he'll be healed.
- 6:20Um, he's gonna heal pretty quickly. He's already healed so much. UM.
- 6:26Just in a short time that we've had him since um, I believe
- 6:30it. I mean it's like not short, but short for him. It's
- 6:33about two months I think we've had him. But for like that first month,
- 6:39I believe he was under medical treatment and stuff. So he's been available
- 6:43for about a month. But he did get adopted. Um that he was
- 6:46brought back. It was an elderly lady who adopted, and she came back
- 6:50in and she was like love his love his heart so much. But he
- 6:55she had a little Pomeranian and the pomeranian I'm asuming. I'm not sure the
- 7:00whole story, but I'm assuming the pomeranium was just scared of the cat.
- 7:03It was way smaller than the cat, and the cat I think was trying
- 7:10to play or chase it or something, and I don't think that she really
- 7:15understood that. So I think that he would be fine with other dogs.
- 7:20Maybe just it's gonna take a little bit. It's a big change because we
- 7:26don't know if he was with dogs, We don't know if he was a
- 7:28cat. But yeah, he's a very very sweet cat. He he really
- 7:35just needs someone who is gonna let him be held because he wants to be
- 7:41held all the time. Twenty four seven. He wants to stay by you.
- 7:45He's a very sweet cat, and he has your typical tuxedo looking cat.
- 7:48So he is very very sweet. And he's about nine pounds I think,
- 7:53so right on right on the edge of ten, I believe is what
- 7:55he's at. So he is doing great. And I also owned a cat.
- 8:01Me and my wife owned a cat for about seventeen years. Unfortunately lost
- 8:05him a couple of years ago. But our dog and our cat ended up
- 8:07being best friends. They started that kind of dynamic relationship where he didn't want
- 8:13a full with the dog, the dog didn't wonderful with him, but at
- 8:15the end of the day they were. They laid together all the time.
- 8:18So it's a super cool partnership that they developed. But unfortunately we've lost both
- 8:24of those over the years. On the fence, they just give him time's
- 8:28right well and it as a beautiful cat, And as you said, the
- 8:31cat has definitely been through a lot. So I think I've got some texts
- 8:37coming in for you. Hand you Handa. You're popular, so I think
- 8:39we have some texts coming in. Are you ready to answer some questions?
- 8:43All right, um, Texas question for Hannah. We always see the dogs
- 8:48running around outside of the playyard. I'm presuming they're talking about on social media
- 8:50on the website up to shelter. Do the cats and kittens ever get taken
- 8:54out of their cages to the playyard so they can also stretch your legs,
- 8:58has some fun into fresh air. They always look sad lying in those cages.
- 9:05No, we don't take them out to any other area just because,
- 9:11well, I take that back. We used to. We have a CaTiO
- 9:15area that we used to put the cats in a carrier and then take them
- 9:18out there. It's fully like covered and that would you know. They can't
- 9:22get out, they can't run away or anything, but they can play.
- 9:26But it's a lot harder for us to do that now we have a lot
- 9:28more like a bigger census than we did back in And also that CaTiO needs
- 9:35to be fixed. I think there's some holes and stuff and it's starting to
- 9:37fall or something. So we stopped doing that a couple of years back,
- 9:41but hopefully one day we'll be able to do that again, because I also
- 9:46think syth the kitties should get out as well. But sometimes it is hard
- 9:50for us to figure out, you know, who's cat friendly and who's not,
- 9:52because a lot of cats don't come in as surrenders for us to know
- 9:56these things, and a lot of cats just come in as jay's or are
- 10:00they coming as babies, um so, and we can't take them out until
- 10:03they are fully vaccinated, just in case of any diseases or anything like that.
- 10:07So so it is a process. But we hope one day to bring
- 10:11that cadio back to life and CaTiO. I like that the cadio. All
- 10:18right, Chris, go ahead and I have another your popular day. Hanna.
- 10:20I have another question for you, but go ahead. I just I
- 10:24just want to know you said the cat's already been adopted to that correct the
- 10:26cat we're trying to get adopted now, sud No, No, that's why
- 10:28it's out there. Whoever ends up, whoever ends up adopting the cat the
- 10:33perfect name Spuds mccantzie. There you go, and of course, Hannah is
- 10:39like, what what what spuds? Mcatzie, I'll explain it to you sometimes.
- 10:41So it's an eighties thing, Hannah, I'll explain it to you sometime.
- 10:43Okay, uh Tech said, what kind of cat food do you need?
- 10:48Because apparently there had been and I've got some other things that you're anita,
- 10:52But somebody wants to help and they want to know what kind of cat
- 10:54food do you need? Yeah, so we need um surfits for the cat.
- 11:00Then it is purina cat or kitten chow, so either one. I
- 11:05know, we're starting to pick up on moms coming in with baby kittens that
- 11:11are still nursing and stuff, and then some kittens are coming in without moms
- 11:16because it is kitten season now. So we would love to have kitten chow.
- 11:22And also if anybody could, it would be amazing for some formula.
- 11:26And if you go into our social media, we post what we need quite
- 11:30often I think maybe even weekly, I'm pretty sure, and we put the
- 11:33links to like our wish lists and stuff like that, so you can see
- 11:37that as well. But if it is if it's fair cats, it's puring
- 11:41a cat or kitten chow and then or a kitten's formula. Okay, we
- 11:45also love kitten wet food any brand. I understand too that you're in need
- 11:48of some supplies, including blankets and things of that nature. Yeah, we
- 11:54used to have like a whole attica fool of like it's and then one day
- 11:56we just, I don't know, they just they just disappeared. So we
- 12:00could definitely use some blankets. It doesn't have to be blankets. It can
- 12:05be towels that you don't use any more, blankets you don't use any more,
- 12:07throw blankets. We don't necessarily need or use the pillows that people bring
- 12:16anymore, just because dogs like to chew those up, Like if you have
- 12:20little chair cushions or something. We'll use those for catbet sometimes, but we
- 12:24don't necessarily use them for the dogs or anything because it is a choking hazard
- 12:28when we are not there overnight. Right, Yeah, so we are very
- 12:31cautious about that. But yeah, we definitely would love to have blankets and
- 12:35towels and hand towels and stuff like that. Hannah just kind of I'll pray
- 12:41end up reaching out to you after this, But we've been discussing internally at
- 12:45the Bucket to have a like a Pet Day in the field at the buckets,
- 12:48So it's that big area out there, just kind of bringing some pets
- 12:52in, and it might be a good fit for you guys to come in
- 12:54and kind of show people what the animal shelters doing and things like that.
- 12:58So I'll keep you post well as that develops, and I'll make sure that
- 13:01you guys have each other's contact information too, so that would be that'd be
- 13:05really good one of the things where we let you go Hannah. Earlier this
- 13:09week, you guys did the social media post about bringing in some animals.
- 13:15You had five puppies, two kittens brought in a critical condition, and a
- 13:18dog with a gunshot wound. Is that right? Yes, we had five
- 13:24puppies, a gunshot wound dog, and then two kittens that were in critical
- 13:28condition. I do not know how the kittens are doing yet. I know
- 13:33that they were taking good care of those kittens and they were making sure that
- 13:37they were nourished and treated and everything. So I haven't gotten an update on
- 13:41those. I know the dog with a gunshot wound is has been staying in
- 13:46our clinic and I saw him out walking around yesterday. Of course, he
- 13:50has that leg that's kind of messed up, but they're working on that with
- 13:54him. They're getting him some treatment possibly even maybe a surgery he needs it.
- 14:00But um, as of right now, he is walking around. He's
- 14:03doing fine. We have him on some pain medicine and stuff. But he
- 14:07UM, they already did like the exam and everything with him, so he's
- 14:09doing well. Was it was it an intentional shooting or was it just random?
- 14:13Or do we do? We know what the story is, not that
- 14:15it not that it matters, but well, you know, I mean,
- 14:18um, yeah that I am not sure. I don't even know if they're
- 14:26oh no, no, no sorry. He was actually a surrender. Um,
- 14:30he was a surrender to us. I believe someone shot the dog and
- 14:33the owner couldn't afford like treatment or taking him like that stuff. He brought
- 14:39him in a surrendered them to us. Um, which you know, we're
- 14:41going to do everything we can to help that dog, um, sweet dog,
- 14:46So we are ready to help him and the five puppies. I believe
- 14:48the five puppies are going or went to a foster. Okay, so they
- 14:54are doing well. All right, Well, good stuff, and I appreciate
- 14:56you being here now you know, I'm away U next week. So I'll
- 15:01leave you in the capable of hands of Dale Cooper next week and so so
- 15:05I'll make sure that we make it and you and Chris at the bucket you
- 15:07guys talking, Maybe we can because Chris has got a really big area out
- 15:11there where Bucketfest is gonna be going on this weekend. It's a big giant
- 15:13feel to be a great for you to bring some animals out there. And
- 15:16you said you like the bucket anyway, right, yeah, I do.
- 15:20All right, all right, we'll make it happen. So we'll see you
- 15:22on the bull tonight. I'm gonna try and make it there, all right.
- 15:28I want pictures, all right, I'll be gone, but I want
- 15:31pictures, all right, Hannah. We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot,
- 15:33appreciate it, Thank you, all right, let me let let's recap.
- 15:37This is Spud picture posted Dave Allen Radio and Facebook and at Dave a seventy
- 15:41on Twitter. Two years old. Already Newted came in as a survivor of
- 15:46a house fire. He's microchipped and vaccinated. We don't know if he likes
- 15:50to the cats, but someone did adopt him, as Hannah said, and
- 15:54tried to pair him up with a Pomeranian didn't really work out. But I
- 15:56mean, let's be fair, Pomeranians can be very temperamental. I mean they
- 16:00can be and the cat pretty much just wanted to play. Spud is a
- 16:03sweet and loving cat who wants to be held twenty four seven and loves to
- 16:07cuddle, which Chris, considering what he's been through, it probably makes sense.
- 16:11You know, he wants somebody next to him all the time. Go
- 16:15get this cat. You know, sometimes catch grief because we don't have as
- 16:18many cats on the segment as we do dogs. But hey, you know,
- 16:22here's your chance, and here's a chance to calv It's already at two
- 16:23years old, has already had a tough, tough short couple of years.
- 16:29They were surviving that house fire. But it seems to be doing remarkably well
- 16:33right now. So go look at the picture Dave Allen Radio and Facebook,
- 16:36and at Dave A seventy on Twitter, and go adopt Spud. Spud needs

- 21:38Well, I think that would be fun. Well, she'll be busy tonight
- 21:41because you'll be at the ballpark. How long? How long? And we're
- 21:44gonna get into Bucket Fast a little bit later on. But how long will
- 21:45it be going tonight? Is the mechanical bull tonight? It is? Yeah?
- 21:48And how long seven to ten tonight? Be cutting it close? Yeah,
- 21:53but with pitch clocks, I've learned our games are wrapping up around nine
- 21:56thirty nine forty, so they're they're going pretty fast. So well also,
- 22:00uh, it's going to be their Sunday too, from three to five.
- 22:03Our games at four on Sunday. Okay, go there first, to go
- 22:08there first, maybe you could stay open for us a little bit. You're
- 22:14and you were to and we'll get into the weekend series. But you guys,
- 22:17you were telling me earlier that your guys are quite big fans of of
- 22:22the establishment known as the Bucket. Yeah, they're there all the time.
- 22:25They where they live now, that's close to it. So they are there
- 22:29all the time. And that's all we're here. Come to the Bucket,
- 22:30Come to the Bucket. Great guys. I've actually got to I've got to
- 22:33meet them all a couple of times. Uh. So I see him sitting
- 22:37by the tiki bar and yeah and stuff, and we've had a lot of
- 22:40talks of baseball and what's going on. And uh, it was right before
- 22:44I think I've met him, right before the Washaa Bananas came to town.
- 22:51Yeah. Um, so you guys have been on there. How do we
- 22:53do on the road? Uh, not so great, but that's okay.
- 22:56Um, we're still learning. We're learning how to hell together. And we've
- 23:00got guys that have so much experience and guys who don't have that much in
- 23:03baseball, but they're finally like starting to come together and build a team.
- 23:07But in my opinion, I think we need that one person to stand up
- 23:11and be a leader in the dugout, and I think that will make a
- 23:14huge difference. But I see improvements every day, Billy Sea's improvements every day,
- 23:18So We're things are looking up and we're hoping this weekend with Frederick Intown
- 23:22that it's got a little bit of a rivalry because we've got some former guys
- 23:26and the former managers, so we think the energy will be there. And
- 23:29we've got a clear bag giveaway tonight. That's what I'll talk about. Adduce
- 23:32on the field stuff. That's the thing about the Dirty Birds games. There's
- 23:33always so much going on. You know, You've got the clear back giveaway,
- 23:38that's just one of the things going on. It's Furry Friend Friday,
- 23:41yea Fury Friend Friday, and then we've got fireworks tomorrow night. And Sunday
- 23:45is something new that we're doing Little League Sundays, so we invite like all
- 23:48the little leagues to come out. So it's really cool. I mean,
- 23:51we've got something going on every single day, and then we're right back in
- 23:53on Tuesday, so we've got a ten day homestand coming up. We're here
- 23:56on Tuesday and we've got a bunch of stuff going to the next next Friday,
- 24:00the twenty six, I believe is a Hawaiian shirt giveaway, and then
- 24:03fireworks again that Saturday. So there's just a bunch of stuff going on.
- 24:07One half priced beer by one going hot dogs Tuesdays, another school day on
- 24:11Wednesday, and we've got like five thousand kids coming, so Thursday's dollar beer
- 24:15Nights and then the Hawaiian shirt giveaways. There's just so much going on every
- 24:18single night. It's that's what Minor League baseball in general has has has become
- 24:23and it's an attraction, you know, for the entire family and that and
- 24:27there's always something going on, sometimes one or two somethings. I mean,
- 24:30like this weekend. That's why I'm less prepared for the show. I was
- 24:33looking at everything and I've been talking about it all week everything that you had
- 24:36going on. I mean that clear that clearbag giveaway, let's talk about that.
- 24:38That is through a through the Treasurer's office, Yeah, the Western Treasurer's
- 24:44office. That was kind of my idea to do something a little different.
- 24:47Everyone loves a bag, obviously, everyone loves to have it, and a
- 24:49lot of stadiums have clearbag policies. We are not one of those stadiums.
- 24:53Your bags just get checked when you come in. But why not give someone
- 24:57a clear bag as a dirty Birds logo? If they go to a WVU
- 25:02or a Marshall game and people see that Dirty Birds logo because they have to
- 25:04have their clear bags. So and there are more arenas and stadiums and whatnot
- 25:08they are requiring it, but you know, in sports and in conference more
- 25:11and more every day. Yeah, So we did that and someone was like,
- 25:14do you guys have a clear bag policy, and we said no,
- 25:15we just want people to have the chance to have a Dirty Birds clear bag
- 25:18and make it different and always marketing may yeah, something that Chris knows a
- 25:22little bit about it. Always marketing. You've got to have it on everything,
- 25:26right exactly. I think I'm in on the Hawaiian shirt, okay.
- 25:29And the Treasurer's office has done clear bag giveaways before with WVU and with Marshalls,
- 25:33so we decided to, you know, ask them if they wanted to
- 25:37help, and they did, so they'll be what the treasure will be there
- 25:38tonight. They're doing a little pregame ceremony and some stuff, so it'll it'll
- 25:42be good. It'll be a good night. And of course it is for
- 25:45your friends Friday too. That's every Friday during that's everyday, every home game,
- 25:48and all three friends are welcome. It's not just limited to dogs.
- 25:51It's not just limited to cats. It's open to all free friends. Monkeys
- 25:55there before. Okay, we've had rabbits, we've had everything because all for
- 26:00friends are welcome, So please bring whatever you have. All right. We
- 26:03love seeing it. We love it, and we always posted a social media
- 26:04I've been saying it's a big draw on social media too. Yeah, people
- 26:07love it. Yeah. So it was monkey, the most exotic one you've
- 26:11had, the most exotic dam Yeah, I think so, because I don't
- 26:15remember the monkey's name. But he actually wrote us a letter after he came
- 26:18to the game. The monkey wrote you a letter, yeah, and send
- 26:19us. Have you been participating in the in the in thee get one beer?
- 26:26No, we got a letter in the mail and it's like a picture
- 26:29of the monkey, like actually drawing on a piece of paper and it's like
- 26:33a picture and then a letter that says thank you for the fun or something
- 26:37like that. And we haven't actually posted in our office on the wall so
- 26:38people can see it. Okay, all right, big guy, have you
- 26:41ever had a monkey write you a letter? I have not. Well,
- 26:45there you go, I mean no, I have not. I know.
- 26:49We all were like, what is this and then we were like, oh
- 26:52my gosh, that's that monkey that was your life. There's Jeff, there's
- 26:56some promo material. We're always looking for little snippets we could put in almost
- 27:00h have you ever had a monkey write you a letter? That's that we're
- 27:04not We're not limiting against anything, any furry friends, anything, even big
- 27:10furry guys like Chris kick Cover. All right, let's talk about Saturday.
- 27:14The game time is six thirty five Saturday. Let's talk about that, and
- 27:18then we have fireworks after, which everyone loves. And we had our first
- 27:22show last week and it was so good and I just tell everyone all the
- 27:26time it's literally one of the best fireworks shows ever. I don't know what
- 27:30it is about it, but it's like fifteen minutes and it is just such
- 27:33a good fireworks show. So that'll appen postgame. Um, there's not really
- 27:37that much else going on, but all of our on field entertainment is heightened
- 27:41on Saturdays because we want, you know, fans to come and have fun
- 27:44before the games. That's you're busy Saturday. The busy, Yeah, Thursday's,
- 27:48Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Because Thursdays or dollar beers Friday are the
- 27:52giveaways and then Saturday's fireworks after, So we just try to pack that entire
- 27:56script with nothing but entertainment and then we do launch a ball after. Last
- 28:00week we played some dance music and we played Sweet Caroline before the fireworks started,
- 28:03and everyone loved this. So that's what we just do. We constantly
- 28:06are keeping people entertained and putting some fun elements in there, and then the
- 28:10fireworks happened and Country Roads will play after and take you home. So have
- 28:15you have you been to the Dirty Bird Stadium? Oh? Yeah, Okay,
- 28:18I've been able to go. I travel quite a bit, so I've
- 28:22been able to go a few times. Every time I've went, it's been
- 28:25a blast. I've just had a and I've always trying to reschedule to go
- 28:29back, and I've got a couple of dates in mind to come back and
- 28:32enjoy up there. It's such a good time. Yeah. We do a
- 28:36lot like I work with the sales team on you know, coming up with
- 28:38different promotional items that we can add in games. So we've got like the
- 28:42trike race from that we do with Harley Davidson and it's like big people on
- 28:48eaty bitty trikes and they ride down the first base line, like just small
- 28:52things like that that you would think wouldn't be funny, but then it happens
- 28:55and it's hilarious and everyone loves it. And some of the stuff is the
- 28:59same as last year, but we've got some new stuff incorporated. And after
- 29:02we had a seven game home stretch for the first week, plus the NBC
- 29:06tournament, so we had eighteen games in seven days at that ballpark. But
- 29:10it was it was a lot, but our main goal is to get people
- 29:14through the gates and let them have fun, and that's definitely what we did,
- 29:17and we hope it continues this weekend, and of course you got there
- 29:19in a couple of weeks, will be down for the state baseball tournament.
- 29:22Yeah, that'll be coming over there too. Yeah, we've got this big
- 29:23shout out to the defending champion Logan Wildcats alma mater, who are going to
- 29:27take it again this year. Yeah, we've got the ten game home stretch
- 29:30and then like right after that is the high school tournament, So we've got
- 29:33about like one or two days off after that, and then we're right back
- 29:37into the high school tournament. I'm talking about. I don't think we did
- 29:40let's talk about Sunday. What we Sunday's Little League Day with the courtesy of
- 29:42United Rental. Yeah, so they're Little League Sundays. We've had so many
- 29:47Little leagues reach out and want to do that. So they would call and
- 29:51they get an hour on the field to hang out with the players, pass
- 29:55hit, whatever they want to do, and then that happens from two to
- 29:59three and then they're already in there and then that gets into the game.
- 30:00They get on the video board and just like having family fund for a day
- 30:04just to elevate our Sundays a little bit, get more people there, and
- 30:08you know, we don't we've never done anything with Little League. So it
- 30:11was really cool that, Yeah, that's good stuff. Someone had this idea
- 30:14and we've got about five hundred Little leaguers coming on Sunday, so that's that's
- 30:18pretty cool that they get to experience that ballpark, because that's why I told
- 30:21someone, those kids look at the ballpark like it's Yankee Stadium here, like
- 30:26they love it. So it's really cool that we're able to provide them,
- 30:27with the new turf and everything, an opportunity to be out there so well,
- 30:30and there's so much has been written about the fact that baseball is not
- 30:33as popular among kids as it used to be. And one of the reasons
- 30:38that if that is true, one of the reasons that it's probably not is
- 30:41that adults have not done a good enough job of introducing kids to the sport,
- 30:45you know. And because black when I was a kid, you know,
- 30:48and I'm like Chris, I'm an old guy, but you know,
- 30:52baseball was just everything in my house growing up, listening to the Reds on
- 30:56radio with my grandfather and his garage, you know. And if we've kind
- 31:00of gotten away from that, and so if there's this is a great thing
- 31:04that the dirty words are doing to get those kids involved, as you said,
- 31:07get them out on that field, and they might as well be out
- 31:10there with the Yankees. Yeah, and we've got you know, one of
- 31:11our players is going to different schools and visiting. And then next Thursday is
- 31:15actually our Latin identity debut. So we're playing as our Latin identity to show
- 31:19appreciation because those Latin players have made baseball here the game that it is,
- 31:25and I mean that is half of our roster. So we want to show
- 31:27appreciation for them and let them know that we love them and appreciate them.
- 31:30So we're our Latin identity debuts next Thursday, and we're wearing military jerseys on
- 31:36Saturday because it's our Enforces Day that we're wearing military jerseys on a Memorial Day.
- 31:41So we're trying to incorporate as much community involvement as we can, and
- 31:45it only adds to it with having those kids out there on Sundays, So
- 31:48we hope that they get to see all the cool stuff that we've got going
- 31:51on too. At a lot of stuff. You guess to a fantastic job,
- 31:53not only on the field, but as part of the whole game experience
- 31:57and getting back into the community. That's one of the things that I love
- 32:00about Andy and you folks is that you you believe in giving back to the
- 32:04community and being a part of the community, and and seeing you at different
- 32:07places not only the bucket but at other places that we see you hanging out.
- 32:09That's good stuff. You never know what little thing that you do for
- 32:15a child's going to impact their life, you know. That's that's huge.
- 32:17Sports was very important for it. Yeah, when our pitching coach was visiting
- 32:21schools, they like some kids didn't even know what the dirty birds were.
- 32:24So then they went home and we've got teachers calling us saying, we can't
- 32:29thank you enough for this, because now that they get to go out and
- 32:30introduce their parents is something and it gets them out of the house and they
- 32:34get to experience something new. So that was really cool too that we were
- 32:37able to and we're still doing it. We're still visiting schools and he gives
- 32:40them a talk about how it'd be a good person, be a good teammate,
- 32:44and then they get to come to the ballpark because we give them a
- 32:46ticket whenever they're there. So it's it's pretty cool that we're seeing that and
- 32:50it's growing, and it's important to me because I'm from here, so I
- 32:53love doing it. Well. Speaking of which, I have a text for
- 32:55you. So Money texted me and said, tell Eden hello for me.
- 33:00She's a former student of mine. She is a great gal. Oh do
- 33:05you know who it is? Yeah, but I'm gonna let you guess who
- 33:07it is. I don't know. It's it's Fred Albert. Oh, mister
- 33:10Albert. Hi, mister Albert. He was my sixth grade math teacher,
- 33:15one of the best all right, well at school. He was listening to
- 33:17the show. Yeah, he was listed to the show and he just sent
- 33:20me up, sent me a personal text on my personal phone. Here love
- 33:22that and said that. So so apparently you were a great guy. You
- 33:25said were I haven't seen him in a long time, but I promised mister
- 33:30Albert. I still, all right, what did you learn in mister Albert's
- 33:34class? What's I know it's math, But what's the one thing that really
- 33:36stuck out to you? Oh gosh, that was a long time ago that
- 33:39you use You use your math for batting averages? Now yeah, yeah,
- 33:43idea for that, but MLB kind of does a four. All right,
- 33:45I'm trying. I'm trying to. I'm trying to help out here. Yeah.
- 33:49But and I know you do a lot of the budgeting too, so
- 33:52so you use your math skills if you learned from mister Albert. Yes,
- 33:54du punt there you learn you use that. I'm trying to. I'm trying
- 33:59to make you feel reluck. He is, He's awesome. I've got some
- 34:02cool stories really. Yeah. So my cousin got married at the women's club
- 34:07one time, and it was when we had that huge snowpocalypse. And are
- 34:13the person who brought the cake we're actually doing cupcakes. Forgot his mixer.
- 34:16So we went down the street knocking on doors, not knowing anything, and
- 34:21one person opens the door and it was mister Albert, and he let us
- 34:23borrow his mixer. And I will never forget that. There I go,
- 34:28there you go, there, you go. All right, pays pays knowing
- 34:31people being a student small towns, because you never know when you're gonna need
- 34:36a mixer. Said that at the bucket, right, you never know.
- 34:39Uh, he'd I appreciate you being here. Dirty birds baseball dot com is
- 34:44the website if you want. I mean, you guys do a fantastic job
- 34:46on the website too. I mean it's got everything from all of your promotions

- 34:55It looks like it's gonna be showers and thunderstorms, but it looks like it's
- 34:59primarily in the day. And that's a great thing about having the turf.
- 35:02Yeah, so as long as there's not lightning anything, you guys should be
- 35:05good to go by are night and went the rain last week. We only
- 35:07had a delay for like ten minutes to make sure the field was ranked.
- 35:09So it's it's been good a good Edan. I appreciate you being here.
- 35:14Big shout out to mister Albert. Yeah, thank you, mister Albert.

- 38:30coming up a little bit later. I'm a little nervous about that. You'll
- 38:32you'll be five Texas Dave. I think one of the reasons baseball it's not
- 38:36as popular as it once was is because when we were kids, you knew
- 38:39who was going to be on the field for one team to the next.
- 38:43Nowadays, it seems that each team fields a new team each year. Yeah,
- 38:46that's that's true sports in general. But I completely agree with with with
- 38:51what the text or says. They've got all these portals and stuff now to
- 38:53where they can switch round and move and stuff, so I can't agree with
- 38:57it. Are you big baseball guy? Are you baseball fan? I love
- 39:00baseball. I played baseball, but I wasn't that good at it. Neither
- 39:05was I. That's why I'm on the radio now. When I was in
- 39:07the service, we did this on post leagues and I was the catcher,
- 39:13so okay, I could catch the ball enough and people on third base couldn't
- 39:15run me over. So well, that's true. I can see that Chris
- 39:20is the owner of the Bucket in Dunbar, and you got something going on
- 39:23called bucket Fest. Uh this weekend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday kicks off
- 39:28of this evening. But when we talk about the bucket and bucket fests,
- 39:31talk about Chris Atkins. Just give us a little bill on Chris Atkins.

- 40:31was it got in the mining industry in nineteen ninety nine, and I've been
- 40:36doing that and traveling around the world, have been to a lot of different
- 40:39countries and got to experience the mining part of that. So uh, and
- 40:44then I decided to try to do something in the hospitality industry, and uh
- 40:51kind of rolled into the bucket. And I'm still in the mining industry.
- 40:53I love that industry. That's that's kind of where my heart is. If
- 40:57you can see parts of the world that you'll never you'll never see, and
- 41:00every day our coal miners are seeing a new piece of earth that nobody's ever
- 41:02touched. So I was gonna say that, you know, thank you for
- 41:07your service, but I'm gonna give you a double thank you for your service.
- 41:09Thank you, thank you for your service in the military, but thank
- 41:12you for your service in the coal mighty industry as well. My pleasure.
- 41:15You make a lot of friends over the years, and everybody kind of moves
- 41:19around the coal industry from one mind to another and stuff. So as you
- 41:22get older, you can kind of aid yourself by the positions they hold.
- 41:25What made you decide to let to open up the bucket. I've always liked
- 41:31that industry and it was kind of a I don't know, it's kind of
- 41:34just a wild thought. At one point in time, a friend of mine,
- 41:37we were talking and we said that, I said, I've always thought
- 41:42about it, Let's do it. I had a name that I won't mention,
- 41:45but uh so me and my wife talked about it, and I said,
- 41:49let's give it a shot and see how we how we do with it
- 41:52because she's she's very hospitable also. And we found the piece of property where
- 41:59at right now and it was in pretty rough condue explain to people where it
- 42:01is. It's explain where it is. Yeah, it's it's in done Bar.
- 42:05It's right to end of rocks Lanta Road. Uh, there's the seven
- 42:08eleven there. We're just to the right of seven eleven us. We've got
- 42:12about four and a half acres. But we went in and had to clean
- 42:15a bunch of trees and trash and what had been there before. Just it
- 42:19started as a garden gazebo center years ago and there was a couple of different
- 42:23bars that were in there, and then I kind of saw more of a
- 42:28bar restaurant set up there to where you could add some nice relaxing area for
- 42:34people to have a beer or have some good food or just kind of hang
- 42:37out with level. And we've had birthday parties and life celebrations and in concerts
- 42:42and bands, acoustics, and we've had so much stuff there. And there's
- 42:45a there's a benefit there that's not financial. That's pretty That's pretty cool is
- 42:50the people you get to meet. Yeah, yeah, and of course about
- 42:52the food you know, that's where I always go. A wide range of
- 42:54food items, great burgers, wings, pepperoni rolls, salad, soups.
- 43:00It is and of course the ice cool beer doesn't help, doesn't hurt either,
- 43:02you know. But but did you But you got a lot of things
- 43:05there. What's the most popular item on the menu. We sell pepperoni rolls
- 43:08like they're going out as Yeah, then you got good pepperoni roles. What's
- 43:13your personal favorite thing on the menu? Uh? Currently than changes from from
- 43:19time to time. Currently, Um, yesterday I had the salmon because we
- 43:22do have some healthy options in there for for people that weren't healthy. But
- 43:25my favorite is uh, it's the Uh, it's I caught the loose noodle.
- 43:30It's got mic and cheese, pulled pork, barbecue sauce, American cheese
- 43:36on saturdough, bread toasted, and it's it's It's not the best for you,
- 43:40but if you're looking for comfort food, that is the one drinking diack
- 43:45coke with it, you'll be all right. It sounds great. And also
- 43:49I want to say this, I love your commitment to to live music too.
- 43:52I mean, because I'm a big fan of live music. Whether I
- 43:55like the genre of music or not, there's just something. And as somebody
- 43:59who can not play a single instrument, I've tried guitar, piano, so
- 44:04he just wasn't for me. I just couldn't do it. But I will
- 44:07say that to anybody that has a commitment to live music, no matter if
- 44:09it's a big venue, small venue, whether it's country, rock, blue
- 44:13grass, gospel, hip hop, I my hat's off to him. Yeah,
- 44:16these guys are very talented. I've actually tried to start learning the guitar
- 44:21and I've learned a little bit. But I look at these guys that are
- 44:22playing and like we have the Davison brothers coming in and Troy Burchett and Lily
- 44:27Grace coming this on Saturday, and I watch how they play and they sing
- 44:30and how fast they're moving their hands, and I'm going, Okay, maybe
- 44:34I'm a little too old to get that good, but I'll stick around the
- 44:37bar and play some bar song. There you go. I gotta get to
- 44:39ten questions. I want to run down the lineup for Bucketfest, which is

- 49:08rap. One rap can make two meals unless you eat like I do.
- 49:16Okay, um, talk about Buckafest. Let's talk about it. Buca Fest
- 49:22kicking off today this evening. We got the Zona Hester there or they're out
- 49:25of the northern part of the state they are. If you don't know why
- 49:30they named their band Zona Hester, look up Zonah Hester in West Virginia.
- 49:32It's got some historical stuff to it. Great guys play some good rock and
- 49:36roll country. They do a little bit of everything, and they're going to
- 49:38be serenading people while people were getting thrown off the bowl. And then you
- 49:42got the mechanical balls, right, So we got the bull starting at seven
- 49:45pm and it'll run until ten pm. And then tomorrow Big Day. We
- 49:52got some vendors coming in with T shirts and hats and things like that.
- 49:54They start setting up at eight. Gates open at eleven and then uh weather
- 50:00permitting, Cornall Tournament will be at two and then we do a little man
- 50:05versus food type thing at the Bucket where we give you a hangover burger,
- 50:08a full pepper roll, and twelve wings. And now, now what's on
- 50:12a hangover burger? So that's two paddies, bacon, onions, led us
- 50:17tomato, pickle, a fried eggum, American cheese and Swiss cheese, all
- 50:27pud high. It's a big burger. And so you got to have that
- 50:30and the pepperoni roll. That pepperoni roll in twelve wings and it's either who
- 50:35eats it eats the most of it in an hour or who eats who completes
- 50:40it first. Okay, so good, it sounds like my kind of a
- 50:44thing. There it will and then and they are wrapping up, and then
- 50:47while they're while they're digesting, we got um. We're kicking off with Troy
- 50:52Burchett out of Kentucky. Lily Grace from Australia has moved to west Or moved
- 50:57to the unit US to started a music career. Seven pm and the Davison
