Transcript
- 0:10Hello, you're listening to Galaxy Crashes, the Busted and
- 0:13McFly podcast. The only podcast where the 2
- 0:16worlds of McFly and Busted come together where we discuss all
- 0:19things naughties and pop rock mayhem.
- 0:21I'm Shan. And I'm Tay.
- 0:24And in this week's episode, we're back into the world of
- 0:26Busted with the 4th song on a studio album, Losing you.
- 0:31Yes, it's a more emotional episode today.
- 0:34We're going to be diving deep into the song lyrics and
- 0:37meanings, as well as sharing some of our own personal stories
- 0:40and sharing some of yours that you've sent in too.
- 0:42We figured that all our episodes so far have been pretty upbeat
- 0:46and reflecting of the song of the week, so we wanted to stay
- 0:49true to that and make sure we're being vulnerable with you guys
- 0:51too. So before we get all emotional
- 0:54and probably cry in front of all our listeners, how was your week
- 0:57been? I feel like every time you ask
- 1:02me this question I say the same thing.
- 1:04I've not been up to much, I've just done a lot of work and a
- 1:06lot of parenting. Yeah, it's the build up to
- 1:10Christmas. So this weekend we went to my
- 1:13mum came over and we went to a Christmas carnival, thank you,
- 1:17which was lovely. And then the next day we went
- 1:19out with all of my family to like, we went to this Christmas
- 1:25panto thing. It was like Jack Frost stole
- 1:28Christmas or like stole the Christmas party or something.
- 1:32Yeah. And and then Santa was invited
- 1:36to the Christmas party. It was very good actually.
- 1:40They got to, like, make their own, like, Jack Frost stole some
- 1:44Christmas decorations, and then the kids in the audience got to
- 1:47make Christmas decorations. So it's really interactive.
- 1:51Yeah. They loved it.
- 1:53Yeah. And then they got to go on stage
- 1:54and meet Santa after, which was lovely.
- 1:58And then it was Sunday. So yeah, then we went out for
- 2:02lunch. And if you know me, you know how
- 2:04much I love the F1. And one of my favourite, one of
- 2:08my favourite drivers, LOD, one world champion.
- 2:11So it's just a great weekend all in one day.
- 2:13We had panto Santa, really, really, really lovely food out,
- 2:17which we never do. Literally, me and Bradley on the
- 2:19way home, we're like thinking back to when we last had, well,
- 2:23to be honest, when we last had time to ourselves, just the two
- 2:26of us. We're just.
- 2:27It's it's on the back burner when you're a parent doesn't.
- 2:29It. Yeah.
- 2:30Yeah. Time for a couple.
- 2:32Yeah. We figured out it was, like,
- 2:34over two years ago that we actually went out for dinner.
- 2:37Just two of us. Yeah.
- 2:40And then Lando won the F1, and then it was the Army celeb
- 2:43finale. And it was just a really good,
- 2:44like, wholesome family weekend. That sounds.
- 2:48Amazing. Yeah, it was really nice.
- 2:50How about you? Yes, it's, it's been OK.
- 2:53It's been a bit of a weird week to be completely honest.
- 2:57I was really getting into the swing of being back at school.
- 2:59So I've been like working back now for like 3 weeks on supply
- 3:02and I worked in a really beautiful little nursery which
- 3:05was so much fun, but I was only there for one day and then I got
- 3:08smacked in the face with a disgusting cold and had to call
- 3:12in sick for two days after that. So that wasn't fun.
- 3:17I pretty much have done nothing but moan about how well I've
- 3:20been for over a week now. So yeah, it's been grim because
- 3:24as you know, when you have a child, you get ill, then they
- 3:27get ill, or they get ill and then you get ill.
- 3:29You get ill, Yeah. You're going to catch what
- 3:31they've got or they're going to catch what you've got.
- 3:33So by the time I was feeling better, Molly was feeling awful.
- 3:36So we were just trying to, yeah, power through.
- 3:39But we did manage to drag ourselves off the sofa for a
- 3:43little trip to Devon for The Polar Express, which was so much
- 3:46fun. Although I was feeling like
- 3:48death warmed up seeing Molly and her cousin together, like on the
- 3:53train with elves and Santa and like music and lights and snow
- 3:58and we had hot chocolate and cookies and it just made me feel
- 4:01so much better. And it just made my mum.
- 4:03It was so, so good. It was a really nice, actually
- 4:05similar to what you said, a very wholesome family weekend.
- 4:08So yeah, we absolutely loved it. And it was Marley's like, first
- 4:12time properly meeting Santa, I suppose, like because she saw
- 4:17him last year at this really God awful event that we went to,
- 4:22which was promised to be the most magical thing in the world.
- 4:24And it was pretty. Much.
- 4:25We had one of those last year. Big boards of PDF put up in a
- 4:29barn with some paper on it. It was unbelievable.
- 4:32Yeah. And, and the Santa was just an
- 4:35actual large man with a polyester beard with gloves that
- 4:40had holes in because they obviously didn't fit his very
- 4:42large hands. And he was really grumpy.
- 4:45So going to The Polar Express and seeing like a proper, proper
- 4:48Santa, he's like full, you know, real beard, like proper old man.
- 4:54It was so, so lovely. And I think that Molly just
- 4:58absolutely enjoyed, like loved every minute of it.
- 5:00And we were laughing all the way home and she was absolutely
- 5:03shattered. And it was just wonderful.
- 5:05So yeah, that was a really wonderful experience.
- 5:07Other than feeling poorly, it's been, it's been a nice week.
- 5:10Yeah, definitely. And busy because there's always
- 5:12something going on. Isn't it?
- 5:14That's one of the things I love most about Christmas.
- 5:16It stresses me out. But I just love that like,
- 5:18there's always you. You're never like, oh, what
- 5:20should we do today? What should we do?
- 5:21Yeah, exactly. In my brain, I'm like mentally
- 5:24trying to plan when I'm going to see all the different Christmas
- 5:27lights as well. I in our local town we have like
- 5:30ones through the main town, which obviously, obviously we
- 5:33see a fair amount driving through and stuff, but there's a
- 5:35little village called Angarek which has beautiful lights every
- 5:38year and you can walk through the whole village because it's
- 5:40not like a main road or. Anything.
- 5:42Literally. Like so quiet and they shut it
- 5:44all off and they have lights all the way down.
- 5:46It must be like over a mile walk where you can walk and it's just
- 5:49beautiful lights. And then we have Mauso, which is
- 5:52like right down the other end of of Penzance, you know, really at
- 5:56the very bottom of the country. And it's this tiny little
- 5:59harbour village and they have all the beautiful lights up in
- 6:01the heart. Oh nice.
- 6:03They have people selling like hot chocolates and mulled wine
- 6:05and little chestnuts and it's so much and I haven't done it for
- 6:09years. So I really, last year, the
- 6:11weather was so God awful the whole of winter, we just didn't
- 6:15get chance to go because every time we planned on going, it was
- 6:17paying it down or it was really windy.
- 6:19So I'm hoping that we get to go and do all of that very, very
- 6:22soon. But yeah, it's been fun.
- 6:24I mean, my, my child is hopped up on sugar because she's got an
- 6:27advent calendar now and she's old enough to actually have an
- 6:30advent calendar now. So I did.
- 6:32We've got a. Fret at the moment we've got if
- 6:38you're not, if you don't, behave at school.
- 6:39You're not having your advent. I'm having the advent calendar,
- 6:42don't you? It's not that you're not.
- 6:43You have to watch me eat it. Yeah.
- 6:46So we started off. We started off the beginning of
- 6:49the month where they were having it in the morning and now it's
- 6:51an after school treat because I can eat it.
- 6:54If you love that, that's such a good idea.
- 6:57I love that. I mean, I did buy Marley at one
- 6:59of those book ones, you know, like that.
- 7:01A book collection calendars. And she has enjoyed doing those,
- 7:04actually. They're really like little tiny
- 7:06books, but they're lovely and they're really good because they
- 7:07fit in the little drawer with all her toys in, rather than
- 7:10having to have like 24 new books.
- 7:13But equally, when she knows that it's time for the actual advent
- 7:16calendar, she's going. Chocolate, chocolate, just do
- 7:19chocolate takes after a mummy. I know she's me all over, but
- 7:24yes, they're very wholesome. Wholesome, wholesome week,
- 7:27definitely. As we mentioned in last week's
- 7:31episode, you guys have loved the this or that game on our
- 7:34socials. So every week we are going to
- 7:36start with a this or that for each other.
- 7:38Don't forget you can play along with these on our Instagram
- 7:40stories. All templates are in our
- 7:42highlights and make sure you tag us because we really love seeing
- 7:44and sharing your answers. Yeah, so I was debating what to
- 7:49do to you today for your. Make it hard.
- 7:55Make it fun. Make it.
- 7:56But you know what? You gave me such a hard time for
- 8:00my answer to a question on one of our Instagram ones, so I
- 8:04thought I'd throw the question back at you.
- 8:06And yeah, so I want to know some wise busted 90s or busted on
- 8:13what you're on. Honestly, this is the easiest,
- 8:17easiest answer in the world because I love them both.
- 8:21Don't get me wrong, I'm not being horrible, but guys, I
- 8:25genuinely questioned whether Shannon was my best friend when
- 8:27she told me that she was going to choose on what you're on over
- 8:2990s. I'd swear down what is wrong
- 8:31with you. OK, I'm a nostalgic girl through
- 8:34and through this. Is why I was just.
- 8:36I was so. Shocked it's in my blood, but on
- 8:39what you're on, you say that sentence and that song is now
- 8:43going to be stuck in my head until we record the next
- 8:45podcast. Like it's an ear, it's.
- 8:46So catchy, yeah. I get that it's an earworm.
- 8:49I get it. But it's very, it's almost like
- 8:51a bit too poppy for me. OK, I see.
- 8:56It I feel like I could be like dancing in a in a club and like
- 9:00having fun, whereas like 90s is me speaking along the a 30
- 9:04screaming at the top of my nose like over and over again because
- 9:09it reminds me of everything from when I was a kid like.
- 9:14Yeah, do. You know what I mean?
- 9:15Like it? I do get it, it's a good song.
- 9:17Well, it's just the. They're so clever, like the way
- 9:22that they, I don't know, they're just so clever.
- 9:24I know it's. Like Jamesy boy.
- 9:26Jamesy boy, such a good boy. I think it's the, it was the, it
- 9:31was the I missed the days of ditching school to watch the
- 9:34Goonies. That was like that coming up.
- 9:36I was just like, what an amazing lyric.
- 9:39And then he says when cigarettes would cost you less than the
- 9:42movies. And I can remember when we were
- 9:44younger, like, I hung out with all the cool girls at school and
- 9:47they were all like dirty smokers.
- 9:49And we used to go to the garage and like buy fags and they were
- 9:54like £3 or something for a pack of 20.
- 9:57And now it's like 15 times the prize.
- 10:00But it's, it's just, it's very nostalgic.
- 10:03I just find it very. It is.
- 10:06And it's almost like it's sad nostalgia, like, it's not like.
- 10:10Yeah. I don't know, it's, it's very
- 10:12much like them talking about how how sad they are that, you know,
- 10:16the 90s is over and how life has changed so drastically since
- 10:19then and how they'd love to go back.
- 10:21And I think it is quite like, oh, it does hit me like in the
- 10:24heartstrings a little bit because although it's a really
- 10:26fun song, it is really. And you know, they in the second
- 10:30verse they talk about, I think it's like a where they had like,
- 10:35was it a big, big shopping centre or somewhere that they
- 10:37talk about something that used to go and and play games and
- 10:41things in and now it's a just a big parking lot because it's all
- 10:44been knocked down and there's nothing there anymore.
- 10:46So true though, isn't it? So true Like where I'm, so I
- 10:50talk about, I don't live there anymore, but I'm from Torquay
- 10:54and if I talk about it to anybody where I live now,
- 10:58they're like Torquay. The way I remember Torquay is
- 11:02like beaches and the pavilion and you know the.
- 11:11Just beautiful beach huts, the little beach.
- 11:13Yeah, yeah. And palm trees and the.
- 11:17It's the Riviera of, you know, and I talk about it so highly,
- 11:22but people I meet now are like, oh, you're friends, you're gay.
- 11:28Do you take drugs? But I'm like, I look at it with
- 11:33like these rose tinted glasses from when I was like, I used to
- 11:37walk from like basically not Torquay to the middle of Torquay
- 11:42on my own. I would, I would be.
- 11:46It was in Barton where I lived, and I'd walk right into the
- 11:49centre of Torquay on my own on a weekend, meet my friends with a
- 11:54fiver, still come back with change and I'd be allowed to do
- 11:58that. Because it was so.
- 12:00Safe. Yeah, Yeah, it was so safe and
- 12:03so lovely and like, I, like my parents would allow it, but now
- 12:08as an adult, I wouldn't do that. Ever want to do that as an
- 12:10adult? I don't even want to walk 20
- 12:12minutes down the. Road.
- 12:13Yeah, I completely agree. It's, yeah, it's it's a shame,
- 12:17isn't it? Life has changed so much.
- 12:19And some ways in the, you know, some ways for the better.
- 12:22But also, like we, I think we've mentioned this before in the
- 12:24podcast, like we were kids at a time where we could still be
- 12:29kids and have fun and be outside and not have the pressures of
- 12:32society and social media and all these expectations that kids
- 12:36have nowadays. And all these labels and having
- 12:39to, you know, be so young and talk about things like sexuality
- 12:42and gender and stereotypes and racism and all this stuff that,
- 12:46that they're learning in primary school now because it's so
- 12:49important, you know? And, but like, we didn't, none
- 12:53of that mattered back then for us because we, it's not that it
- 12:57didn't matter, but like, it just wasn't a thing, you know, I
- 12:59don't remember ever being, being in a situation where I had to
- 13:03talk about those things at school.
- 13:04I was more interested in what I was going to do and what games I
- 13:07was going to play at playtime. Do you know what I mean?
- 13:08And like what? We were.
- 13:10I was more interested in MSN. Yeah, getting home and and
- 13:14sending someone my love for the evening.
- 13:19Asking someone to be my other half.
- 13:20Yeah, exactly. And then being really sad when
- 13:22they refused. I think that's what did it for
- 13:27me. When you chose on what you're
- 13:29on, it took all of that away. And I was just like, you've just
- 13:32stolen this from me. I tell you, if I'm going to be
- 13:37completely honest now, I know first half of this like podcast,
- 13:42there's this whole like last 8 episodes.
- 13:44I'm a bit of a negative Nancy when it comes to the
- 13:45songwriters, but these two songs are nowhere near my top 30 for
- 13:52Busted. Like they are bottom but
- 13:56comparing the two on what you're on made me feel something when
- 13:59it came out. Yeah.
- 14:00Because we hadn't heard from the band for so long.
- 14:02For so long, I think I completely disagree about 90.
- 14:06So again, we're going to get there eventually.
- 14:09I would say it's in my top 10. Really.
- 14:13Yeah. Oh my God, the.
- 14:15Entire it just makes me feel. For everyone is I know 10.
- 14:19Yeah, to be fair, I might I when I get there, I might be like, Oh
- 14:22no, hang on. Now I'm I'm sat here looking at
- 14:24the setlist from from the tour that I got from the busted
- 14:28drummer on my wall and I'm thinking, well, maybe not.
- 14:31It might not be top done. The entire present.
- 14:34Present. Meet you there.
- 14:35You said no. Dawson Skeet.
- 14:37Britney Nerdy. Why lose a kid?
- 14:38Who's David? Sleeping with the light on
- 14:40everything I knew Thunderbirds. What I go to school for.
- 14:43Oh, maybe she. Wants to be me, she wants to be
- 14:46me. Falling for you?
- 14:48Oh my goodness, too right, That's OK.
- 14:52OK, I'm going to give you all this or that now I've gone for
- 14:54something more like a scenario than like a song.
- 14:58So I've changed it up a little bit.
- 15:00I just thought it was a good idea and I'm interested to know
- 15:03what you would prefer. So this or that.
- 15:07Would you rather crash the wedding or be the one who gets
- 15:11crashed on their wedding day? So this is really hard for me in
- 15:15two different aspects. I have severe anxiety.
- 15:18That's why I think I'm gonna crash someone.
- 15:20You think I'm gonna crash someones wedding?
- 15:22I can't even tell somebody. If they got my name wrong.
- 15:24This is what I mean. I think most people would choose
- 15:26to crash the wedding, but I know you probably wouldn't because
- 15:29you're. I'd walk in and I'd be like,
- 15:32excuse me? You'd be like, oh.
- 15:34No, sorry, wrong room. You'd be like Taylor Swift in
- 15:37her video. What's the song where she's at
- 15:39the wedding and she's singing to him?
- 15:42Oh, speak now. Speak now.
- 15:44Yeah. She's like sit there and she's
- 15:45like looking around at other people.
- 15:48That would be me. I'd be like, OK, yeah, I I could
- 15:51not. However, I don't want my wedding
- 15:53day to get. Actually, it depends who it is
- 15:56and. Who you're marrying if you're
- 15:58who's crashing? Don't listen, Bradley.
- 16:03I don't know if it's bloody Joe Keery, then crush my wedding
- 16:07man. If it's like if it's like an old
- 16:18absolutely don't do not come near it.
- 16:21But if it's like, I don't know, do a leaper for Bradley,
- 16:24absolutely not. But.
- 16:28In his dreams. Yeah, well, I'm talking about
- 16:31Joe Kiri. True.
- 16:34This is what I mean. Jack celebrity crosses Rihanna,
- 16:37so I've got no chance. No, but this is what I mean.
- 16:42I want to say crash the wedding but I can't.
- 16:47So I guess my wedding day is being crashed.
- 16:50I'm not even. I'm not even engaged and I'm
- 16:52depressed about this. It's time for Quote Corner.
- 16:58This section is pretty self-explanatory.
- 17:00We find quotes we like from the band members and talk about
- 17:03them. So my quote is I was listening
- 17:07to a really odd podcast. Charlie Simpson went on a
- 17:11podcast with Jamie Lang and Jamie Lang, another guy, another
- 17:16guy from Made in Chelsea made. In Chelsea, Jamie Lang.
- 17:20Yeah, he, he was doing this. It was like 2 years ago he was
- 17:23doing his podcast with, I can't remember what the guy's called.
- 17:26I know he dated Binky because I'm that kind of men, just a
- 17:30gal. But yeah, Anyway, so he was on
- 17:33this podcast and Jamie Lang said so Jamie Lang said to Charlie
- 17:36Simpson, I always say naivety is our biggest weapon when we're
- 17:41younger because you don't understand about rejection or
- 17:43the consequences of failure. So that's why we just do the
- 17:46things we do because you're blind to it all.
- 17:49And then Charlie Simpson says, that's so interesting because
- 17:53you're right because as you get older, a lot of what damages you
- 17:56is your fear of failure. And that can play into, you
- 17:59know, mental health and the expectation to fail or not.
- 18:03And you're right. When you're younger, it's like,
- 18:05OK, here we go. I didn't have any premonition of
- 18:08what would have happened or not. I just went out.
- 18:11And if they'd have said no, I'd have come home and just said,
- 18:14oh, well, I'm glad I did it. And I was so young.
- 18:16I was literally a child. I guess naivety was my strength
- 18:19at that point. And that was about him going for
- 18:22the Busted audition. Yeah, because he was 16 and it
- 18:26was just in half term. And he just said to his mum and
- 18:29dad, do you know what I'm going to go to for this?
- 18:31And there was no record label or anything.
- 18:34And he just was like, do you know what?
- 18:35I'm going to do it. And he wasn't scared.
- 18:37And then he got it. And then like he was like, guys,
- 18:41I'm not coming back to school, bearing in mind it's half term
- 18:43so it's like a week, two weeks. He just said to his mates not
- 18:47come back to school. I'm moving to London all on a
- 18:48premonition. Well, I think so cool, isn't it?
- 18:51So crazy to me about it is how young they were, that they were
- 18:55so, so young and actually. Like he says, I was so long I
- 18:59was literally a child and I'm thinking about that now.
- 19:02I'm like, Oh my God, we saw you at like 17 or whatever, so you
- 19:06would have been even younger. Yeah, insane, I think.
- 19:11I think Jamie's quote is really that really when when he first
- 19:15read that bit, I thought, wow, that's actually quite heart
- 19:18hitting because when we're younger we don't understand
- 19:20about rejection or the consequences of failure.
- 19:23So we just do things because we were blind to it.
- 19:26It's so true because that's what he's saying.
- 19:28Then naivety was my strength. He didn't think about what was
- 19:31going to happen if he failed. He didn't care.
- 19:32He just thought, I'll bugger it, I'll just go and have a go and
- 19:35see what. And now we're adults.
- 19:37We're like, I bet if that happened to him now, he'd have
- 19:39been like, yeah, well, I can't really do that because XY and Z.
- 19:43Yeah, it'd have been a massive deal.
- 19:44Like a huge thing. That's crazy.
- 19:47I think while we're on this topic of your quote actually
- 19:51ties in quite nicely with what I wanted to say about Busted last
- 19:54week, but I didn't because I knew this podcast, but this
- 19:58episode is coming up and that was I was listening to on the
- 20:03Men podcast with Matt Willis. And he has a whole episode where
- 20:06it's about tour and about Busted.
- 20:09And it was really, really good episode.
- 20:13If you guys haven't listened to On The Mend, go and listen to it
- 20:16because Matt Willis is just, it's just so cool.
- 20:20I just love him. I don't understand why he's so.
- 20:22He is actually the coolest person in the world.
- 20:25But he was talking about a few things about how Busted came
- 20:29together and how about how him and James were, you know, the
- 20:32beginning. They started the band together
- 20:33because they both went to Sylvia Youngs acting school and they
- 20:38met there. They were trying and trying and
- 20:40trying to get, you know, record company to sign them and they
- 20:43couldn't get it. And they were told that they
- 20:45needed a front man. So they did these auditions.
- 20:48They saw Charlie and immediately they were like, wow, this guy
- 20:51can sing. He's got that front man energy.
- 20:53Like he brings a lot to our look as well because he looked really
- 20:57cool and he was a little bit younger than them as well.
- 21:00So it was just a massive like yes from them and and as soon as
- 21:03they had Charlie, they got signed like straight away.
- 21:06Like it was just tick, tick, ticks all over.
- 21:08Yeah, in that thing he literally said in that thing, he was like,
- 21:11it took four months. Yeah, insane.
- 21:14Insane, like. And they were global superstars.
- 21:17Mad. And then Matt goes on to talk
- 21:20about how, you know, they started writing when they
- 21:24started writing together. And the songs that they would
- 21:26write at the beginning were very like Blink 182 inspired.
- 21:30And they were very like, you know, that sort of quirky, more
- 21:34like Rocky style pop rock kind of energy, like American Y, you
- 21:38know, and that that was the music that Charlie really loved.
- 21:43And that's how he wanted to make music with them.
- 21:46That was what they had as their idea of Busted.
- 21:49But because Busted got so big so quickly, they were like created
- 21:54as this more like of a pop band and because it was like the age
- 21:58of boy bands with with Westlife and Boy Zone and all of these
- 22:03other bands coming out that were like boy.
- 22:05Blues. Blue exactly.
- 22:08It was they were being branded as like pop bands, like Sweet 16
- 22:13girls love them pop bands, you know, like what I go to school
- 22:17for and like, you know, and that made Charlie miserable.
- 22:21And that is literally what he said.
- 22:22He said Charlie was miserable. He was making music that he
- 22:25didn't sign up for. He signed up to make music with
- 22:29the, you know, the whole blink 182 vibe.
- 22:31That was the music that he loved.
- 22:33That was the music he and he was young, he wanted, he wanted to
- 22:36do what he he wanted, not what other people wanted.
- 22:39And that's why he became so miserable.
- 22:42And that's why it ended so quickly, because they just got
- 22:45bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger.
- 22:46And he realised that he's now stuck in this place where he has
- 22:49to keep doing what he doesn't want to do.
- 22:53So his only thing to do was to leave.
- 22:55And and they it did say like, although that it was Charlie
- 22:59that was miserable, they could see that Charlie wasn't happy
- 23:03and it was actually a mutual decision in the end.
- 23:07Yeah, it probably had a long standing effect on the band
- 23:10itself. 100 percent, 100%. And then they were all signed to
- 23:15their own labels. They all got their recording.
- 23:17And Matt said he remembers leaving in this is in the On the
- 23:21Men podcast episode. He remembers leaving the meeting
- 23:24where they told everybody that they were breaking up, and they
- 23:27all got into individual cars and just drove away.
- 23:31And I think that's like, that really hit me.
- 23:33I was like, Oh my God, that's like.
- 23:35That's really sad. That's really, really sad
- 23:38because like, it genuinely like imagine spending all of your
- 23:41time with these people and being with them and then being like
- 23:43everything because your whole life is now blowing up and it's
- 23:46about the three of you. And then one day it was just
- 23:49over and you just got into cars and went your separate ways and
- 23:52that was the end of it. And he said, you know, then he
- 23:55went back to his hotel and he and he didn't leave his hotel
- 23:58room for X amount of time and he just sat in there in the dark
- 24:01and, you know, was drinking and abusing and and that's why he.
- 24:05Well, I guess when you see, when you have a vision of your, what
- 24:09your future is going to look like, to have it all taken away
- 24:13from you, especially when there's the vision is of
- 24:16success, it must be so hard because like to modernise it a
- 24:22little bit. I guess that's how like the One
- 24:25Direction boys felt as well. Yeah.
- 24:27Do you know what I mean? They were global, they break up
- 24:31and then it's like, what the fuck do I do now?
- 24:35I think it's, it is sad and you know, but it's nice to hear Matt
- 24:39talk about it. And I really did enjoy that
- 24:41episode. And there are lots of other
- 24:42episodes where he does mention, you know, Busted and he talks
- 24:45about McFly and there's an episode that he did backstage
- 24:49with Dougie and Harry, which is really cool actually.
- 24:51And it's something worth for listening to.
- 24:54So those of you that haven't had to listen to On the Mend,
- 24:56definitely get yourself over to their Spotify page and have a
- 24:59listen. My quote is from the wonderful
- 25:02Matt Willis. And I've picked a really sloppy
- 25:04one this week. So prepare yourselves.
- 25:08I don't know why I chose this when I read it.
- 25:09And I was just like, Oh my God, I can't even.
- 25:11I was just felt it in my heart. Matt said Maybe because I got
- 25:17married this year, that might be what it is.
- 25:20Matt said that a wedding is the ultimate declaration of love.
- 25:24It's like, I choose you forever, he said.
- 25:26There's nothing really out there that does that.
- 25:28It's a massive thing. It's like I choose you above
- 25:31everyone else forever. That's a pretty big thing.
- 25:34So where are you, Joe Kiri? Come on.
- 25:38Come on. I'm waiting.
- 25:41I'm wishing. I just thought, I think I was
- 25:45looking for lots of different quotes from that.
- 25:47And this is obviously surrounding the love is blind
- 25:50sort of thing. And they were talking about how
- 25:54for some people, you know, it really is a, a real thing.
- 25:57Like people are genuinely there to get married.
- 25:59And then there's others where they're just there for the fame.
- 26:02But it is like getting married is an ultimate declaration of
- 26:07love. And some people don't believe in
- 26:09marriage and some people aren't bothered about marriage.
- 26:11And, you know, it's especially in an age now where I think that
- 26:14people aren't bothered about getting married at all.
- 26:17And like, I know for example, my husband would have literally
- 26:23signed a piece of paper, the registry office and not had a
- 26:25wedding and not have been bothered about any of that and
- 26:28just done the legal bit to be like, yeah, I choose you.
- 26:30That's it. And and I get that.
- 26:32I would have I, you know, I understand the, the, the, the
- 26:36fact that you, you care about someone so much that the rest of
- 26:39it doesn't matter. But I think for me, a wedding is
- 26:44doing that in front of everyone that you love.
- 26:47And I think that's what it is for me.
- 26:49I think it is a big thing and it is standing in front of the
- 26:51people that care about you more than anyone in the world and
- 26:54your family and your friends and everyone that has made an impact
- 26:57on your life. And standing there in front of
- 27:00them and actually saying this is the person that I choose over
- 27:04anyone and I will put this person first forever.
- 27:07And I think that's what I completely agreed with Matt when
- 27:10I read that. I just thought that was really
- 27:11sweet. It's time for Song of the Week.
- 27:16This week, make sure you've got your tissues because we are
- 27:19jumping in the DeLorean and heading back to the early
- 27:21noughties where we faced difficulties of young love,
- 27:24heartbreak and navigating that transition to adulthood with
- 27:28Busted Song losing you. Losing You was released on their
- 27:452002 debut album and was track 4.
- 27:48The lyrics describe the desperation and regret of a
- 27:51failing relationship, with the singer pleading for a way to
- 27:54save it and reflecting on past mistakes.
- 27:57It's a ballad about heartbreak and the struggle to hold on to a
- 28:01love that is just simply slipping away.
- 28:04So before we talk about this song, can I just say I'm an
- 28:06absolute sucker for a sad song? It's like unbelievably so, to
- 28:11the point where I genuinely sometimes just want to sit in my
- 28:16car and cry and scream at the top of my lungs but no one can
- 28:20see or hear me. It's like actual therapy.
- 28:22Like, who needs a therapist? Do you?
- 28:24Know what I mean? I completely agree.
- 28:27I love a sad song. Think that's why I like Taylor
- 28:29Swift so much. She's so depressing.
- 28:31Percent. She really is.
- 28:32And you know what? When I speak to my friends about
- 28:34Taylor Swift, that's why they don't like her, because she's so
- 28:36depressing. I'm like, I'm depressing.
- 28:40Why are you friends? People are like, people are
- 28:42like, oh, you like shake it off. No, I like the deep cuts that
- 28:45make me want to cry at 2:00 in the morning.
- 28:47I like tolerate it because I love people who don't love me
- 28:54back. I like.
- 28:56You're losing me. Yeah, I like to hear her
- 28:59heartbeat in the background. Oh dear.
- 29:03But I am. I really, really am a sucker for
- 29:06a sad song. I will more than happily sit and
- 29:09listen to really sad music and just cry because I genuinely
- 29:12feel like sometimes that's all I need to pick me up again.
- 29:16Yeah, Oh dear. Just to feel it.
- 29:21Exactly just to. Feel your emotion.
- 29:23It's nice to, it's nice to know that's not just me and that you
- 29:26also feel that way. And there's probably a few
- 29:29listeners out there as well. But also like to have a bit of a
- 29:32cry and a scream in the car or in the shower.
- 29:35Or if you live on your own, you're very lucky that you can
- 29:38do that without anybody else judging you, because we don't
- 29:41have, we don't have that luxury. No, we don't.
- 29:43Do you have a rating for this song?
- 29:46I do. I love this song.
- 29:48I think that in general, it's, it's a good song.
- 29:52It's very easy to listen to. I love singing it.
- 29:56I love, you know, like I said, crying in the car to it.
- 29:59However, in terms of what I like about Busted, I don't like
- 30:05Busted because they sing sad ballads.
- 30:07I like Taylor Swift because she sings sad ballads.
- 30:10And I think that it's not the style that I love them doing.
- 30:15I think it's the style that I can appreciate, but it's
- 30:19definitely not up there for me. So I'm going to, I'm going to be
- 30:22pretty brutal here because. Oh my goodness.
- 30:26Again, I'm looking at the set list and thinking of all the
- 30:28wonderful songs I've got to come.
- 30:31I'm going to give Losing You a four.
- 30:34Oh my goodness. I know it's really.
- 30:37Bad. I actually like, I know that
- 30:39sounded like I've rehearsed that.
- 30:40That was a genuine reaction. Yeah, we haven't yet.
- 30:43We don't share our rating. Disgusting.
- 30:46Most disgusting rating of the series.
- 30:48It's worse than my skippable 5 pillars.
- 30:53I love it. I feel like I've been let off
- 30:55now that rating has given me pass.
- 30:58I really love it. I'm not saying that I don't love
- 31:00it, but I am thinking ahead and I'm thinking about the fact that
- 31:03I've got so many songs that I would rank above this and I've
- 31:07got like, I would rate. There's one that I would rate
- 31:09above this, and then there's five more that I would rate
- 31:11above that. So it's like I have to put it
- 31:14down there. Yeah, but Matt Willis is verse
- 31:17in this where he's. Like.
- 31:20Oh, I love it where it's like a roar in.
- 31:23Like I just love it. He is, yeah.
- 31:29I mean, this is one of those songs where you can very clearly
- 31:32hear Matt as well. And I love that they give him
- 31:37his own dedicated verse because I do feel like, you know, and
- 31:40I've said this before and I'll say it again, I feel like it
- 31:43there is very James and Charlie Heavy, like the same that it's
- 31:46very Tom and Danny heavy and Dougie sort of, you know, the
- 31:48background singer. But I think Matt has an
- 31:51incredible voice and the newer stuff has definitely got a bit
- 31:55more of him in it. And I do appreciate that
- 31:56definitely. But this one is 1 that, you
- 31:58know, is, is a Matt song. Do you know what I mean?
- 32:01Like, you know, that it he it's coming up that he's going to
- 32:03sing and that's not why I've ranked it low.
- 32:06I've ranked it low because it is soppy and sad and that's just
- 32:10not busted for me. I do have a quote from Matt that
- 32:13we'll share a little bit later on.
- 32:15And I think he probably feels the same way that I do.
- 32:17So I feel like me and Matt are on the same wavelength, babe.
- 32:20So, you know, it's all good. So this song is very, very sad.
- 32:26And for those of you that haven't heard this song, it's
- 32:30pretty much about heartbreak. And you know, I think one of the
- 32:34things I love about Busted is they know how to write.
- 32:36They knew how to write because obviously a lot of their songs
- 32:39were written a long time ago. They knew how to write for their
- 32:42target audience because their target audience with this young
- 32:47was sad little 15 year old Bee who'd just been broken up within
- 32:51the cafeteria at school. You know what I mean?
- 32:54Like these were the people that like they were writing for the
- 32:58people that were going through the same sort of things.
- 33:01The majority of us have been through some sort of teenage
- 33:05heartbreak. Not everyone, but the majority
- 33:08of us. And for those of us that us that
- 33:10have and want to occasionally reflect on it because I think it
- 33:16makes you, it's growth. You know, it's growth.
- 33:19I think that songs like this generous.
- 33:21Yeah, it is. I think songs like this make you
- 33:23think back and make you think about those times and think
- 33:26about how you weren't the only one going through that sort of
- 33:29pain. You know, I think we've also had
- 33:32a lot of people writing in and we're going to share some of
- 33:35your stories a little bit later on.
- 33:37But I think that, like we said at the beginning of this
- 33:40episode, we wanted to be a little bit more vulnerable with
- 33:42you all because we are a very upbeat, uplifting podcaster.
- 33:46We like to think we are. We probably just moan about work
- 33:48and being parents most of the time.
- 33:52But there's there's a line specifically that does hit me
- 33:56every time you it's the Matt Willis first wonder.
- 33:59If it's the same one because I have a line.
- 34:01Oh, do you? OK, well, mine's mine's the Matt
- 34:05Willis 1st and hit. It's the bit where he says you
- 34:09don't have to say a word. It's in your eyes.
- 34:11What can I do to convince you? We need more time?
- 34:13And it gets me every time I hear it because it takes me back,
- 34:16like to a specific moment in my life where I can hear myself
- 34:22saying that in my head. Do you get what I mean?
- 34:26I was 17. I was in my first year at
- 34:31college. I, I had just sort of started to
- 34:34be really comfortable with who I was as a person.
- 34:37I'd left school, I'd left bullying and horrible people
- 34:40behind me and I had what I thought was the man of my dreams
- 34:46at the time. Obviously I was 17 and very,
- 34:49very naive, but we'd been together for like 2 years.
- 34:52We were at school, we were, everybody was rooting for us.
- 34:55We were very much like, that's the school couple that people
- 34:58thought were really going to make it and then we just didn't.
- 35:02And I think that like that bit, there I go.
- 35:05I go back to sitting in the cafeteria and having that
- 35:08conversation and and that was it.
- 35:10I remember looking at him thinking, you're breaking up
- 35:12with me and I did not know what to say.
- 35:16Like I was just like, and and it was almost like I think was
- 35:21specifically with those words. What can I do to convince you
- 35:24that we need more time? I I was I did kept say it and I
- 35:27remember I can remember specifically saying let's just
- 35:30wait a bit. Let's try and work on it.
- 35:32Let's let's work together. We just need to communicate
- 35:34like, you know, it doesn't need to be over.
- 35:38But that that was that was his decision had been made before he
- 35:41walked into that room that day. And I, I and also you.
- 35:46You shouldn't have to convince someone to love you.
- 35:48And I think now. I wish I could tell.
- 35:51I wish I could tell. I was just going to say the same
- 35:54thing because. Yeah, this song, reading through
- 35:59the lyrics, it, it actually describes my first major breakup
- 36:04genuinely if like. So tell me why I'm swimming
- 36:08against the tide. I'm praying for a lifeline
- 36:11because I'm losing you. So tell me why you don't care
- 36:13enough to try. Are you giving up this fight?
- 36:16Because I can't stand why it stand as you and I genuinely
- 36:19think. Goosebumps.
- 36:20You reading those lyrics? I'm like.
- 36:22Yeah, it's if you like singing it, it's like, oh, it's cheesy,
- 36:26it's cute, it's sad, it's soppy, whatever.
- 36:28But when you read them, it's poetry like, and it's exactly
- 36:33how I wish I could tell younger me what happens now, because I
- 36:41wish younger me didn't have to feel those things.
- 36:43Oh my gosh, 100%. If I could go back and and say
- 36:46to my 17 year old self do not sit there and beg him to love
- 36:50you because that's what I did. That's what I did.
- 36:54I was trying to convince him to to love me.
- 36:57What the fuck? No, no, no, no.
- 37:00I. Was embarrassing, Yeah.
- 37:02Yeah, it's disgusting. I was so embarrassing.
- 37:04I remember thinking back on it now I'm like, why the why did
- 37:10you? Why did I say to him, I know?
- 37:14Does this mean you won't be at my funeral if I die?
- 37:20Oh no, I was so brutal. Honestly, I was like only you
- 37:27could. Be that morbid in that moment,
- 37:29but it was like. Young me was like, yeah, no,
- 37:36seriously though, I was like, like, I wish I could go back and
- 37:39be like, girl, stand up. Do not beg.
- 37:43Yeah, yeah, I I completely agree.
- 37:46I feel like as well now, I think we all have.
- 37:49Hindsight is a good thing, isn't it?
- 37:50Hindsight is marvellous. We know that.
- 37:52Everybody looks back on things that they've done in their life
- 37:54and think, Oh my God, why did I do that?
- 37:57Why did I say that? But in that moment it is hard,
- 38:00it is heartbreak and it is like that.
- 38:02You don't care enough to try like you don't like.
- 38:05That's how it feels in that moment.
- 38:06You don't even want to try, you don't want to make this.
- 38:08You want to try to make this any better.
- 38:09Because for some of us, it's the first.
- 38:11We're not there. Like and I know your situation
- 38:15was very similar to mine in that not a clue.
- 38:17It came out of the blue one day and I remember I can remember it
- 38:22was March. I can remember it was literally
- 38:25just over a month after my birthday and he bought me a
- 38:28brand new iPod for my birthday, iPod nano in green.
- 38:32I remember I remember saying to my mum he just spent £150 on an
- 38:35iPod for me and then broke up with me.
- 38:37What the fuck is that about? Well, I will like heighten that
- 38:42with New Year's Eve asking for your Christmas presents back.
- 38:46Oh God oh Lord above. I mean he didn't ask for the
- 38:52nano back. I did ask him if he wanted it
- 38:54and he said no. He said thank fuck he did
- 38:57because I sold it for £150. So at least I made something out
- 39:00of that breakup. Or be the reason I sold it is
- 39:02because I didn't have a computer that had, I can't even remember
- 39:07was it a utorrent or whatever it was that we were using to
- 39:09download fake like, you know, illegal music and my iPad, my
- 39:14iPod, my iPod was his music. Every single song in there was
- 39:19stuff that he'd he thought that I would like and stuff that we
- 39:23listened to together. So every time I went to put my
- 39:26iPod in I was like oh for fuck's.
- 39:28Sake don't want to. Listen to this shit.
- 39:31I just sold it. I thought, fuck this.
- 39:33I'm not listening to this and crying every time.
- 39:35I get you want to put my headphones in.
- 39:38But you know, it is hard. And, and we all go through this
- 39:41sort of stuff. And I think, you know, again,
- 39:43they knew who their target audience was.
- 39:46A lot of us young teenage girls going through heartbreak,
- 39:49especially like that had already been through it And we we would
- 39:54have been 17 ish, you know, like, but I can remember being
- 39:57that young teenager who was heartbroken about their breakup.
- 40:02And this song can mean so many things.
- 40:04And I think especially when we share our listener stories
- 40:06later, we had, we had two stories that were that actually
- 40:11made me feel really quite emotional and that were about
- 40:14loss rather than, and like grief rather than about like
- 40:17heartbreak, if that makes sense. And.
- 40:20I That's really interesting. I don't think I ever looked at
- 40:23this song as like in that way, because I've never lost anybody
- 40:28close to me. I don't think I ever have had to
- 40:31listen to a song and feel it that way.
- 40:33But these ladies telling me their, their stories about, you
- 40:37know, what it means to them and, and the stories that they had
- 40:40from, from the losses that they'd had in their life.
- 40:42And I thought, Oh my God, that's, that's really sad
- 40:45because it does link and it does mean things to different people.
- 40:49Yeah. People hear songs in different
- 40:51ways. Well, it's.
- 40:52Like when we talk about like, sorry to bring her up, but like
- 40:55when you talk about. I know what you're going to say
- 40:59the way, the way. The Taylor Swift things tolerate
- 41:02it, Yeah. It's that, though, isn't it?
- 41:05That song is literally about an emotionally abusive, you could
- 41:09say, relationship between a man and a woman.
- 41:12Exactly. Yeah.
- 41:13And I, I don't see it. I can.
- 41:15I see. It in a different line.
- 41:16Completely differently in and it's not like I see it in a
- 41:19different light. I hear it in the way that she
- 41:21sang it. But one day it just clicked and
- 41:24I think I just had a really bad day with that specific person
- 41:28and it clicked in my head and I was like, this song is about you
- 41:31for me. It's not about a partner or a
- 41:34lover. It's about you.
- 41:35And this is how I feel about you.
- 41:37And she put the words together so well that it can mean so many
- 41:43different things on so many different levels.
- 41:45And I think, you know, that's exactly what Busted have done
- 41:47with losing you. And on that note, I also have a
- 41:50bone to pick with Mr Matt Willis because I'm bringing this up now
- 41:54before we get too sad, dear emotional.
- 41:57Whilst I was looking around online for interviews and things
- 42:00about this song, I found an interview with all three of the
- 42:04boys from Busted from an interview, an interview with
- 42:08Digital Spy in 2018. And Busted said, well, Matt from
- 42:13Busted specifically said there's one song that we've never
- 42:17played. It's called Losing You.
- 42:19We've never played that song. And for a very good reason.
- 42:22We don't like it. It's not very good.
- 42:25It's quite embarrassing. We will never play that song,
- 42:29ever. And they all agreed and laughed.
- 42:32That's infuriated me because I didn't actually say my rating
- 42:36earlier. My rating is.
- 42:37Seven, I didn't ask you. I would.
- 42:40I would fully, I would love to hear this song live.
- 42:44I think it's poetry and I know he says it's embarrassing or
- 42:46whatever, but if you read the lyrics, they don't seem
- 42:49embarrassing to me. They just seem really raw.
- 42:52I think it's because they're a boy band and because they were
- 42:55young and because they're supposed to be these cool, like,
- 42:58you know, little bit rebellious type boy band boys.
- 43:03But it was a bit soppy for them and it was the only song, you
- 43:07know, obviously we've got Sleeping with the Light on and
- 43:09that again, we'll get to. But I think when you think, I
- 43:12think that's. Cheesier than this.
- 43:15Do you? Oh yeah, I suppose that.
- 43:17Yes. But I think.
- 43:18Because I think the the melody for Losing You is a bit cheese.
- 43:22It's the melody is, but I think the lyrics aren't.
- 43:24Yeah, I think this is a bit beggy, like without being
- 43:29horrible. I'm thinking again back to 17
- 43:32year old me who was crying on her knees and begging him not to
- 43:35go. Like, it is a bit beggy, isn't
- 43:37it? It's like it's, it's all about
- 43:40him saying them saying, you know, don't leave me, I'm losing
- 43:43you, but don't leave me. I'm still here.
- 43:45And why am I, you know, so upset about this?
- 43:47And I, I just want you to come back.
- 43:49And that's pretty much what it is.
- 43:50And I think that's where they're coming from on the whole, we
- 43:52don't like it. We think it's embarrassing.
- 43:54Yeah, I think sleeping with the light on is still more beggy and
- 43:59more. Like it definitely like it
- 44:01definitely is. I think it's more, it's
- 44:03definitely more well known. People know Sleeping with the
- 44:05Lion way more than they know this song.
- 44:08Some people that that haven't heard this at all, people that
- 44:10I've spoken to haven't even heard this song.
- 44:12So again, it's one of those songs that people skip because
- 44:16it is soppy and sad and people like Busted for, you know, you
- 44:20stupid lying bitch. Who's David?
- 44:22She wants to be me. Yeah, she wants.
- 44:24To Be Me and Falling for You and you know, all of those songs
- 44:27that are a bit more OTT and like exciting and funny and like they
- 44:32are very Blink 182. This is not Blink 182.
- 44:35Any word? I will say I'm like, I'm
- 44:39preaching this song like nobody's business right now as
- 44:43if it's my favourite Busted song ever.
- 44:45It's not. I much prefer cheesy, poppy,
- 44:49funny Busted. I just think this song is
- 44:52underrated. Completely agree.
- 44:57This week we're going to share some of the stories that you
- 44:59guys have sent in. We asked in our stories for you
- 45:01guys to send in anything that you felt like you wanted to
- 45:03share relating to how this song makes you feel or what it makes
- 45:06you think of. We were so humbled by some of
- 45:09the stories sent in, and with permission we want to share some
- 45:12of them with you, if that's OK. These will all be kept obviously
- 45:15completely anonymous. So one of the first messages I
- 45:19received was from a lovely young lady who has faced a lot of
- 45:22hardship in her life. And this was her message in
- 45:24response to the song. My story of heartbreak is losing
- 45:28my Big Brother 10 years ago at the age of 30, and I'm only 34
- 45:32now. Also, I was bullied all the way
- 45:34through school, so I lack a lot of confidence.
- 45:37I've. I found this really, this was
- 45:40like a, like I said when we were talking about the song, the
- 45:42first message that I'd received that made me feel a different
- 45:45way about losing you because in my head, it was heartbreaking
- 45:49love. And actually this message made
- 45:51me think about it in a form of, you know, way of grief.
- 45:55Yeah. And what a horrible thing to
- 45:57have to go through. But the fact that, you know, I
- 46:00know that this lady lives and breathes McFly and Busted.
- 46:03And I know that the the bands have brought her a lot of
- 46:06happiness over the years from what I can see from the things
- 46:09that we've spoken about online and, and her page and things
- 46:13like that. So I'm really glad that she has
- 46:16has busted and McFly to sort of help her through, but you're not
- 46:19on your own. Just know that me and Shannon
- 46:22most definitely also also bullied all the way through
- 46:24school and confidence for quite a long time.
- 46:28And, you know, you're very strong, and thank you so much
- 46:31for sharing your story with us. Yeah, 100%.
- 46:35Another message that we got through said I can remember
- 46:39listening to the song years and years ago when it first came
- 46:42out. I was absolutely besotted with
- 46:44this girl. And I really thought that the
- 46:46feeling was mutual. But in the end, she cut me out
- 46:49and ended up dating one of my friends.
- 46:52Oh, brutal. That's brutal.
- 46:54I'm so sorry that happened to you because that is like, you
- 46:58wouldn't wish that upon your worst.
- 47:01No. So not something that I've, I
- 47:03mean I've I've definitely been besotted with someone and it not
- 47:06been mutual, but I don't think I've ever had anybody go for one
- 47:09of the friends. That is no very difficult
- 47:13situation. Thank you for sharing another
- 47:15one from another lady who has looked at this song from a
- 47:19grooving point of view. I lost my brother to terminal
- 47:21cancer in May. He was only diagnosed in January
- 47:24and had just turned to 33. He was a huge McFly and Busted
- 47:27fan too. And I played some of their songs
- 47:29at the wake. I really liked this came in two
- 47:32separate messages. She she sort of told me about
- 47:33the loss of her brother, first of all, and then and then after
- 47:36I responded, explained, you know, how much he loved Busted
- 47:39and McFly as well. And and the fact that she played
- 47:42the songs and I just thought it was a really lovely.
- 47:45It had gone from, you know, sharing the heartbreak and then
- 47:48it immediately she went on to how they connected through this
- 47:52music. And I thought that was a really.
- 47:53Lovely. Yeah, and, you know, it wasn't
- 47:56just all, you know, the sad side of of and this lady also went
- 48:00into, to more and discussions about, you know, the other
- 48:04things that she'd been through that have also been very
- 48:06difficult. But love that she she related to
- 48:10McFly and Busted and how her and her brother had that connection.
- 48:13So thank you for sharing. I I yeah, I really appreciated
- 48:18reading that one. Another one says This is a
- 48:22different way of looking at I suppose.
- 48:23The other one says this song reminds me of losing my best
- 48:27friend. We were kids and people drift
- 48:29apart. But now when I listen back to
- 48:32this song, I just think of her and our friendship and what
- 48:35could have been. I think that we probably could
- 48:39both relate to that one, don't you think?
- 48:42Yeah, deeply, I'd say. Yeah, 100%.
- 48:46I think a lot of people have probably drifted apart from
- 48:48friends along the way, but. Yeah, and I love, I like, I like
- 48:54how she's, she's completely at peace with it, though.
- 48:56It's like we people drift apart like that's how it was.
- 48:59And it's no one's fault, kind of, but it's just like the
- 49:02reminiscing when they listen back, it's.
- 49:05Yeah, we've all and you know what I was going to say,
- 49:08sometimes it's not even the song like losing you that, that, that
- 49:11the lyrics really take you back and make you think about those
- 49:13people. But sometimes it's a song that
- 49:15that reminds you of that person. I've got a friend that I, I used
- 49:21to spend my living waking day all day, all night with.
- 49:24We used to, you know, every weekend we were together, we
- 49:27would always go out together. It was somebody that I was with
- 49:30all the time. And then things changed quite a
- 49:32bit. And now whenever I hear it
- 49:35sounds really funny, but I hear Ke$ha.
- 49:40With you there. Reminds me of being very drunk
- 49:44in a club and you know, just being in my I was with.
- 49:47Her I literally, I was just thinking of a specific person
- 49:51and a song that maybe isn't soppy and sad because there are
- 49:56soppy and sad ones that remind me of them as well.
- 49:58But Jason Derülo want you to want me.
- 50:02I can't listen to that song without thinking of that person.
- 50:06And that's so random, isn't it? Because it's such a bop.
- 50:10Yeah, 100% is a really weird and like when it comes on and you're
- 50:13like, you get a bit sad about it and then you're like, why am I
- 50:15sad? It's Ke$ha in the morning
- 50:21feeling like, no, we're not going to say the name, don't
- 50:23worry, Block that bit out. Yeah, I completely get that.
- 50:29I completely get that. We've I think a lot of people
- 50:31will relate to that one. And the last one, this song
- 50:33relates to an almost relationship for me.
- 50:36We weren't quite together, but when I listened to it, it speaks
- 50:38to how I felt at the time. I wish he cared enough to try
- 50:41again. That last line is just so
- 50:44relatable to the song, isn't it? It's exactly what they're saying
- 50:46in the song. So a very, very relatable, a
- 50:50couple of relatable stories. Thank you so much to all of you
- 50:53that sent your stories in. We will probably keep asking for
- 50:57things like this over the next, well, probably all of the
- 51:01episodes that are to come. God knows how long this podcast
- 51:03is going to go on for. We're going to be here till
- 51:04we're old and grey because there's a lot of bloody songs to
- 51:07get through, so please feel free to send them in.
- 51:10They're always kept anonymous. We don't share any on the
- 51:12socials, they only come onto the podcast and we don't share any
- 51:15names. So yeah, if you feel like you
- 51:16want to write in, please do. This week's In the Wild section.
- 51:21We have two very important things to talk about.
- 51:24Firstly, for those of you watching, I'm A Celebrity, you
- 51:26will have noticed that our wonderful King of the Jungle
- 51:282024, Mr Danny Jones headed back over to Ounces to crown the new
- 51:32King slash queen of the jungle. No spoilers for those of you who
- 51:36haven't caught up yet, I've added this sentence in because I
- 51:39haven't watched the final, even though it's very obvious who
- 51:43wins because it's all over social media.
- 51:45But I haven't watched it and I would like to watch it, so I
- 51:47thought I'd keep the spoilers just in case.
- 51:50Obviously Danny became King of the jungle last year and I am
- 51:53living for all of the clips that being shared about his win at
- 51:57the moment. Because it's taking me back
- 51:59because I loved his season. I watched that religiously and I
- 52:02think obviously it's because he was in it.
- 52:05And I think it's, it's nice to be reminded of all the things
- 52:10that we love about Danny and like to see him in his normal
- 52:13everyday self. Do you know what I mean?
- 52:15Without being which like front man Danny, I, I found a clip and
- 52:23we talked about this a little bit before, before we started, I
- 52:28found a clip of Danny on like the I'm A Celebrity X or
- 52:31whatever it's called. It's not called that.
- 52:33But you know, the extra, extra thing that where he talks to
- 52:36Joel and there's a lady on there as well.
- 52:38I can't remember her name. And they were talking about why
- 52:43Danny wanted to get to the final And she says to him, did you
- 52:47want to get to the fine? Like did you want to get to the
- 52:50final just so you could do cyclone something along those
- 52:53lines. And he said, no, I just really
- 52:55wanted to wear the hot pants. And Joel says, well, that's what
- 53:01the viewers wanted to see. And Danny says and the boys.
- 53:04And then there was this very, very strange exchange about how
- 53:09Harry wants to watch Danny in hot pants and how because he's
- 53:15the drummer, it's he's the drummer because he just wants to
- 53:18see Danny from behind. And I just thought.
- 53:21I relate to you, Harry. I relate to you.
- 53:25Never related to a drummer more and I wonder.
- 53:29If you don't know, play the drums.
- 53:30Yeah, exactly. I wonder if you remember you
- 53:33100% do the snake down the trousers Palava from.
- 53:37After this, yes. Yeah, there was AI Think there
- 53:40was a bit of a meme going. Round funny.
- 53:42Of like a full on Python coming out of his trousers.
- 53:47So funny, I love it was great. I just.
- 53:49Remember, and you know what I remember about that scene?
- 53:52It's just his laugh. His laugh was so funny.
- 53:55He was just going. It's infectious, this is.
- 53:58The name, he's just laughing and I was laughing because he was
- 54:01laughing and it was just so funny.
- 54:03I just love how down to earth he is and he's just like, yes, he's
- 54:05just getting on with it, but dude's got a bloody snake down
- 54:08his trousers of. Course he does.
- 54:11He's Danny Jones. Also also take us back because
- 54:14that was probably the first time I've ever seen Danny Jones's
- 54:17pants. True.
- 54:20I still sneak peek of his boxer area.
- 54:24OK, let's stop before we get out of hand.
- 54:28Secondly, we have to mention our wonderful Mr Tom Fletcher and
- 54:33his absolutely incredible performance on Strictly Come
- 54:36Down SIM. How could we not?
- 54:38I watched it and then I watched it again and my mum was staying
- 54:41over so I made her watch. I was like, there's a person in
- 54:46that costume, Mum. Oh my God, look at the costume.
- 54:49Can we just take a moment to appreciate that obviously Tom
- 54:53Fletcher is the most talented little bean in the whole world.
- 54:56I just love his energy. And he's very musical theatre,
- 55:01even though he isn't, he is. Do you know what I mean?
- 55:03Like as as Mt girlies. And for those of you out there,
- 55:07I know that some of you are musical theatre girlies because
- 55:09you've all messaged me and said, oh, I'm 30 and I like musical
- 55:12theatre. Do we love you?
- 55:14Thank you so much for being here.
- 55:16Give me life. I think you can just tell when
- 55:19somebody's got that, like in their body.
- 55:21Do you know what I mean? And like the way he.
- 55:23Stood. It was very John Valjean.
- 55:26You think it was very John Valjean.
- 55:29It was very tall and broad and the way he was standing with his
- 55:33chin and like, it was just very like that.
- 55:35I'm just picturing Jean Valjean singing it like his his big
- 55:39ballads and. When my mum watched it with me,
- 55:42she said to me, oh, you can hardly recognise his voice.
- 55:45I was like, it's because he's pronouncing all his letters.
- 55:48He's speaking. Very clear.
- 55:49He's not trying to be boy band Tom.
- 55:53This is a theatre. Yeah.
- 55:56He's clearly changed his whole everything.
- 55:59Like if you're a Tom fan or like a McFly fan or whatever, you
- 56:03know who it is because you, you know his voice.
- 56:05But the fact that my mum was like, oh, it doesn't really
- 56:09sound like him because he knows how to just turn outside to pin
- 56:13his vocal cords. Yeah, exactly.
- 56:16And can we just have a moment to appreciate the performers that
- 56:19both play Paddington? Oh, madness.
- 56:22So how cool is it that it's played by two people like, and I
- 56:26genuinely when it when the the videos and and things were
- 56:30released of of the performers and them talking about, you
- 56:33know, the fact that somebody's in the suit and somebody's doing
- 56:36the voice. I genuinely did not know how
- 56:39they control the face. Because we all know that the
- 56:42most amazing performer, Artie Shah is the on stage Paddington.
- 56:47She is in the bear suit. She plays the bear.
- 56:50Do you want to share that that what you said to me earlier
- 56:52about the the quote that? Oh yeah.
- 56:54So I watched a little video about her.
- 56:57Well, about the bear in general, I think it was Richard someone
- 57:04he was talking about. He was he he has his own
- 57:07podcast. It's it's like comedian man.
- 57:09And he was basically talking about this clip and he was
- 57:13saying about the bear and he was saying about her and how she how
- 57:18she got into role, how she how she got ready to be Paddington
- 57:24was she sat in a sauna fully clothed every day for a month.
- 57:29We've all been in costumes and especially like when we've been
- 57:32in theatre shows and stuff, they get uncomfortable and they get
- 57:35very sweaty and gross and minging.
- 57:38To think about how hot she is in that film in costume.
- 57:41I once dressed up as Pudsey Bear for about 20 minutes in my
- 57:44college and I was like Nah, this is too hot, never imagine being
- 57:48like that for hours under lights.
- 57:52Yeah, exactly. And I was looking at, I used to
- 57:55watch a programme when I was younger called Bear and the Big
- 57:58Blue House, and I now watch it all night.
- 58:01So I genuinely have sat, sat at my TV staring at this bear as an
- 58:08adult trying to work out how the hell somebody does that costume
- 58:13because obviously there's somebody in it doing the arms
- 58:17because, but how can you do the arms and move the eyes and the
- 58:21mouth at the same time? It does not work.
- 58:23So I've worked I've I just say I worked out.
- 58:25I found the video. So Aarti Shah is the on stage
- 58:28performer. She's in the suit.
- 58:30She works the the arms and the legs.
- 58:32And obviously she has her head in the head of Paddington.
- 58:35However, it's James Hameed who is the voice of Paddington.
- 58:40He sings and speaks, but he also controls the facial expressions
- 58:44and they're controlled by a hand control where he like, opens and
- 58:49closes his hand for the bear's mouth to speak and then moves it
- 58:52for the head to the like eyes to open and close.
- 58:56It's insane. Having to do all of that and
- 58:59sing like perform at the same time is very Avenue Q, let's put
- 59:04it that way. It is very Ave.
- 59:06Qi just thought it was absolutely incredible.
- 59:09Doesn't it make you respect Artishara a little bit more as
- 59:12well though, because she's got to walk around not knowing
- 59:15really what's going on with she's got no control.
- 59:18She can't even really see because she's got this Big Bear
- 59:21head on. Apparently there's like a small
- 59:24area, the bottom of Paddington's head where she looks through
- 59:28like a, like a, like a sheer kind of.
- 59:31Yeah, but it's not clear because obviously if it was cleared,
- 59:34we'd see her face. It's covered in fur, so.
- 59:37But it's the fact that she's got no control apart from her move,
- 59:40her movement. Exactly, exactly.
- 59:44I also I'd like to share a, I'd like to share a quote from
- 59:48artist jar that I found. And it wasn't a video.
- 59:51It was like it was a video of a quote, if that makes sense.
- 59:55So don't don't quote me and tell me that I'm wrong on this,
- 59:57because there are people out there who have already messaged
- 1:00:00us to tell us that we're wrong about certain things.
- 1:00:03None of our things are facts. We talk about things that we
- 1:00:06have heard and that we have seen.
- 1:00:07We are not reporters. We are not, you know, people
- 1:00:11that give yourself true fact as it is.
- 1:00:14However, the quote that I saw from Aunty Shar was about how
- 1:00:17that when she was younger, she was bullied so badly for being
- 1:00:21small that she genuinely considered having leg
- 1:00:25lengthening surgery, which I didn't know until last year was
- 1:00:28a real thing. Because there's a guy online, I
- 1:00:29don't know if you've seen who's had his legs lengthened.
- 1:00:32It's a very awfully hard and long and painful procedure and
- 1:00:37healing process. But the thought that that the
- 1:00:39fact that she actually thought about doing that and she said
- 1:00:42that how glad she is that she didn't do that because now she's
- 1:00:45got to play the role of a lifetime because she would never
- 1:00:49have been cast for her West End debut as Paddington if she had
- 1:00:53had that surgery. And that goes to show, like for
- 1:00:56a lot of us, that went through hardship as as kids.
- 1:00:59And unfortunately, our children are also growing up in in an age
- 1:01:03where they're going to have to go through that as well.
- 1:01:05And the thought of my little girl coming home in tears after
- 1:01:08being bullied at school. She's 2.
- 1:01:09And I already think about that because I know that that's
- 1:01:11something that I experienced so much when I was younger.
- 1:01:15The fact that, like, you can't look to the future and see, you
- 1:01:18know, what you're like when you're older.
- 1:01:20And I'm so lucky to have everything that I have.
- 1:01:22I couldn't care less about what those boys said to me when I was
- 1:01:25at school now, but it did shape who I was as a human being.
- 1:01:28And I think that the quote that I found from Artie was very
- 1:01:32relatable. And I think that it's a lot of
- 1:01:34us that feel the same way. And how lovely is that as a role
- 1:01:37model to show that you know, you can stand up and, and be what
- 1:01:42you want to be, no matter how big or small or fat or thin or
- 1:01:46whatever colour your hair is or your skin or you know, your
- 1:01:48sexuality or whatever, it doesn't matter.
- 1:01:51It doesn't matter anymore. And all those things that we are
- 1:01:54ripped apart for when we're younger, they become who we are
- 1:01:56and they become like the hilarious are being.
- 1:01:59Because if you, if you think about it in a literal aspect, I
- 1:02:04was bullied because of the colour of my hair.
- 1:02:06Yeah. So I was bleaching it from the
- 1:02:09age of, I don't know, 1314. And then and now I don't know my
- 1:02:16natural colour because when my roots grow out, it's not that
- 1:02:19colour anymore. I actually dye my hair the
- 1:02:22colour I was trying to avoid. Yeah.
- 1:02:25Back to the the gingery orange that we all love you.
- 1:02:27In. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:02:30So completely. Agree.
- 1:02:32At least that's one thing that like obviously isn't life
- 1:02:34changing like surgery, but it's just like even small things like
- 1:02:37that you think are going to change your whole.
- 1:02:40Like I thought dyeing my hair was going to change my entire
- 1:02:43life but now I actually just die back.
- 1:02:46I get you, I get you. We hope you've enjoyed this
