Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Been so excited.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Okay, here we have it. The Charlotte Hornets are trading
- 0:04Speaker 2: Mark Williams to the Phoenix Suns for twenty nine tonight
- 0:09Speaker 2: and then a twenty twenty nine first round pick. Okay,
- 0:15Speaker 2: so not not only are we getting man Man, but
- 0:18Speaker 2: we're also getting Mark Williams. There's your front court of
- 0:21Speaker 2: the future Phoenix Suns. I have word we can go
- 0:24Speaker 2: to Jake Fish or Fish. Please help us make sense
- 0:27Speaker 2: of this.
- 0:27Speaker 1: What is going on.
- 0:29Speaker 3: I'm trying to sift through if Mila Watch is actually
- 0:32Speaker 3: gonna stay in Phoenix. But there's depth. I mean, Mark
- 0:36Speaker 3: Williams is going to the Suns. And as you guys
- 0:39Speaker 3: were talking about about the need for Phoenix to have
- 0:43Speaker 3: a center, that's been consistent throughout I mean from the
- 0:46Speaker 3: moment Phoenix ended their season short of the play in tournament.
- 0:51Speaker 3: They obviously moved the use of nerkits to Charlotte previously
- 0:54Speaker 3: and took back Near Richards from Charlotte and a separate deal.
- 0:57Speaker 3: There is some clear synergy between being the Sun's front
- 1:00Speaker 3: office and the Horns front office making these trades. I
- 1:06Speaker 3: am getting yes, okay, so come on, I'll watch is
- 1:09Speaker 3: going to stay in Phoenix right now and the Suns
- 1:13Speaker 3: just in a massive, you know, two man punch, get
- 1:17Speaker 3: their two centers of the future. Mark Williams, if everyone
- 1:21Speaker 3: probably remembers shocking deal at the very end of the
- 1:24Speaker 3: trade deadline in February with the Lakers for Dalton Connect
- 1:28Speaker 3: and a couple of first and then the Lakers ultimately
- 1:33Speaker 3: rescinded that deal due to Mark Williams's medical I'd say
- 1:37Speaker 3: Mark Williams being a potential trade candidate was something that
- 1:41Speaker 3: everyone in the league to use a funny expression, had
- 1:44Speaker 3: on their bingo card, but it wasn't really out there
- 1:47Speaker 3: until I got worried about it, like literally two minutes
- 1:50Speaker 3: before news broke. And I think it's not surprising being
- 1:55Speaker 3: that just think about it on a human level, Mark
- 1:58Speaker 3: Williams basically got broken up with by the one family
- 2:02Speaker 3: he knew, Like they put him in a different home
- 2:05Speaker 3: and then they had to welcome him back. And I
- 2:08Speaker 3: think everyone was professional about the situation, but I know
- 2:12Speaker 3: Mark Williams's side of things. They were always looking and
- 2:16Speaker 3: kind of hoping. I think that he would get moved
- 2:19Speaker 3: again this summer. Just an awkward, suboptimal situation, right to
- 2:23Speaker 3: go back to a team that you were supposed to
- 2:25Speaker 3: be the franchise center, the center of the future, and
- 2:27Speaker 3: all of a sudden they kind of went behind your
- 2:29Speaker 3: back and traded you to the Lakers and then welcomed
- 2:32Speaker 3: you back. And in theory, Charlotte, to my understanding at
- 2:36Speaker 3: the time, thought they were doing right by Mark sending
- 2:39Speaker 3: him to LA Like, why not put a twenty three
- 2:41Speaker 3: year old kid in Los Angeles to star next to
- 2:44Speaker 3: Luka Doncic and Lebron James would have been a great
- 2:46Speaker 3: opportunity for Mark Williams, right, But of course didn't happen,
- 2:50Speaker 3: and now he gets in probably a way better situation
- 2:55Speaker 3: in terms of runway for growth and not necessarily having
- 3:01Speaker 3: a win now next to a forty year old Lebron James,
- 3:03Speaker 3: Like I think that timeline situation makes more sense. And
- 3:06Speaker 3: to bring it back to Phoenix overall, I mean the
- 3:10Speaker 3: Suns they wanted to get into this range of the draft.
- 3:13Speaker 3: That was probably one of their most important things they
- 3:16Speaker 3: wanted to achieve.
- 3:17Speaker 1: In their Kevin Durant Tree talks.
- 3:18Speaker 3: They were talking to Toronto at nine, remember they were
- 3:21Speaker 3: talking to Minnesota all the way down at number seventeen.
- 3:24Speaker 3: This tenth pick from that they got back like this
- 3:27Speaker 3: was originally their pick from Houston. The Rockets told me
- 3:30Speaker 3: that that was the Sun's preferred like number one asset,
- 3:35Speaker 3: if you want to call that, compared to Dylan Brooks,
- 3:37Speaker 3: compared to Jalen Green, and they wanted a big man
- 3:40Speaker 3: all along. They were looking at big men again all
- 3:43Speaker 3: the way back down at number twenty nine.
- 3:45Speaker 1: So now that pick goes to Charlotte.
- 3:47Speaker 3: That's an interesting thing at the end of the first
- 3:49Speaker 3: round two, being that the Hornets also have the thirty
- 3:53Speaker 3: third pick and the thirty fourth pick at the top
- 3:55Speaker 3: of the second round. They were already being discussed as
- 3:59Speaker 3: a likely trade scenario with thirty three to thirty four,
- 4:02Speaker 3: so now they have three picks in a five pick range.
- 4:04Speaker 1: They were already projected to trade one.
- 4:07Speaker 3: So I wonder and I'm definitely keeping an eye out
- 4:10Speaker 3: for the Hornets being another trade candidate down at the
- 4:12Speaker 3: bottom of the first at the top of the second.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Love it, okay, Thank you Jake Fisher for the updates.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Kart.
- 4:19Speaker 2: We call that in the business the brotherhood. Two for one.
- 4:22Speaker 2: You get come out of Mallowatch Duke Center, you get
- 4:25Speaker 2: Mark Williams Duke Center. In a ten second span, I
- 4:28Speaker 2: know John Shire is smiling right now.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Yeah, but also in the back of my head as
- 4:32Speaker 4: that move was made and as they selected man Man,
- 4:34Speaker 4: I honestly thought to myself, I don't want him to
- 4:37Speaker 4: become Mark Williams. So hopefully he doesn't pick up some
- 4:40Speaker 4: of Mark Williams habits, because I think on paper, Mark
- 4:43Speaker 4: Williams should be this defensive lob threat, but he's maybe
- 4:46Speaker 4: a little bit underwhelming at times. But I do think
- 4:49Speaker 4: that front court death is something you want to have,
- 4:51Speaker 4: and in a span of a minute kind of before
- 4:53Speaker 4: our eyes. I think the Suns get their starting center
- 4:55Speaker 4: and they also have a backup center.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Now that twenty twenty nine first from Phoenix that could
- 5:00Speaker 2: be worth something based on how the Suns are blowing
- 5:03Speaker 2: things up right now.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I don't know instant reaction.
- 5:06Speaker 2: I think Charlotte got a nice return for unloading Mark Williams.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Quick, can you say that Charlotte did what something good?
- 5:13Speaker 2: They got something good?
- 5:14Speaker 1: Wow?
- 5:14Speaker 2: I think they got something good. I'll be curious to
- 5:16Speaker 2: see what they do at twenty nine
