- 0:00Speaker 1: Okay, so are you ready to explore how AI is
- 0:03Speaker 1: like totally changing the game, Like literally, we're going deep
- 0:08Speaker 1: on AI and sports analytics this time.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Yeah. You know. It's interesting because when most people think
- 0:13Speaker 2: about like AI and sports, they think about how it's
- 0:15Speaker 2: going to make players better.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Yeah, like, how's it going to make Lebron James even better?
- 0:19Speaker 2: Exactly? But it goes so far beyond that. It's really
- 0:22Speaker 2: about maximizing potential at every single level. So like, for example,
- 0:26Speaker 2: AI can be used to analyze those super tiny movements,
- 0:30Speaker 2: like things that the human eye just can't even catch.
- 0:32Speaker 1: So we're talking about seeing those little inefficiencies that can
- 0:36Speaker 1: be the difference between like a good athlete and a
- 0:38Speaker 1: great one.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Yeah exactly.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Wow, So we're talking about a level of detail that
- 0:42Speaker 1: coaches in the past they can only dream.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Of, right, absolutely, And it goes beyond just like technique
- 0:48Speaker 2: and performance too. One of the things that we saw
- 0:50Speaker 2: in the research was how AI is being used to
- 0:53Speaker 2: predict injuries like before they even happen.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Okay, now that's where it gets really interesting. So instead
- 0:59Speaker 1: of waiting for player to like, i know, pull a
- 1:01Speaker 1: hamstring or something, AI can flag a potential problem based
- 1:07Speaker 1: on like what their gait.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yeah, like maybe they have a hitch in their stride
- 1:10Speaker 2: or something, and the AI can pick up on that.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Wow, that's crazy.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah, And teams are starting to use this data to
- 1:15Speaker 2: adjust like training regimens and strengthen specific muscle groups and stuff.
- 1:20Speaker 1: So AI is potentially saving these players from weeks or
- 1:25Speaker 1: even months of recovery time.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:27Speaker 1: It's huge. But you know, sports aren't just about physical ability.
- 1:30Speaker 1: There's a huge strategy component. Is AI making its way
- 1:33Speaker 1: into like the coach's playbook as well? Oh yeah?
- 1:35Speaker 2: Absolutely. AI is being used to analyze tons of historical
- 1:39Speaker 2: game data, you know, breaking down plays, figuring out what
- 1:42Speaker 2: the opponents are doing, and then it can even find
- 1:45Speaker 2: hidden patterns in a team's own performance, all of which
- 1:48Speaker 2: can give a team a real edge over their competition.
- 1:51Speaker 1: So we're not talking about just crunching numbers here. AI
- 1:54Speaker 1: could actually reveal like strategic weaknesses that a human coach
- 1:59Speaker 1: might miss, or even suggest plays that go against conventional
- 2:04Speaker 1: wisdom but actually have a higher probability of success.
- 2:07Speaker 2: So he's having a whole other coach on the sidelines
- 2:09Speaker 2: with you.
- 2:09Speaker 1: That's wild. So if AI can get good enough to
- 2:12Speaker 1: predict like the flow of a game. Does that change
- 2:16Speaker 1: the role of the coach.
- 2:17Speaker 2: That's a really good question, and it's actually a hot
- 2:19Speaker 2: topic right now. You know, some experts think that AI
- 2:22Speaker 2: will become a tool that coaches will use to help
- 2:25Speaker 2: them make decisions. But then others are saying that they
- 2:27Speaker 2: think AI is going to become way more central and
- 2:30Speaker 2: important to a team's strategy.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Okay, so a lot of uncertainty there, but one thing's
- 2:35Speaker 1: for sure. AI is shaking things up in the coaching world.
- 2:38Speaker 1: But what about the fans. How's AI going to change
- 2:41Speaker 1: how we experience the game?
- 2:42Speaker 2: Well, you know, it's going to make it more personal
- 2:44Speaker 2: than ever before because AI can track your viewing habits,
- 2:47Speaker 2: the players that you follow online, even like the merch
- 2:50Speaker 2: that you're buying. And this is going to allow these
- 2:52Speaker 2: teams and broadcasters to like tailor content for you.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Oh so instead of seeing generic highlights, I might see
- 2:58Speaker 1: a feed that's specific showing like three pointers from my
- 3:02Speaker 1: favorite player or exciting plays from my hometown team.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah exactly. And imagine getting like a text notification letting
- 3:09Speaker 2: you know about a game that's coming up that they
- 3:11Speaker 2: think you'd be interested in, or even getting ticket deals
- 3:14Speaker 2: based on where you like to sit and how much
- 3:16Speaker 2: you usually like to spend. AI is going to make
- 3:19Speaker 2: being a fan so much more interactive.
- 3:22Speaker 1: So it's like having your own personal sports assistant, which
- 3:25Speaker 1: is cool, but it also sounds like it could be
- 3:27Speaker 1: a little creepy, like all this data collection, isn't there
- 3:30Speaker 1: a potential downside? Oh?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. Data privacy is a huge concern and
- 3:34Speaker 2: something that we have to address absolutely.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Let's switch gears and talk about how AI is changing broadcasting,
- 3:40Speaker 1: because I've definitely noticed some differences in how I'm watching
- 3:42Speaker 1: these games at home. The replays are faster, the graphics
- 3:45Speaker 1: are better, and it feels like I'm just getting way
- 3:48Speaker 1: more info than before.
- 3:49Speaker 2: AI is definitely behind all of that because it can
- 3:52Speaker 2: analyze game footage live, which means that you can get
- 3:55Speaker 2: instant replays.
- 3:56Speaker 1: So it's like AI is acting as like a super editor,
- 3:58Speaker 1: finding those awesome plays within seconds of them happening. But
- 4:02Speaker 1: what about all those cool graphics and stats I see?
- 4:05Speaker 1: Is AI involved there?
- 4:06Speaker 2: Too? Of course, AI is being used to track those
- 4:09Speaker 2: player movements and analyze performance and even predict outcomes of
- 4:14Speaker 2: the game as it's being played, and all of that
- 4:16Speaker 2: can then be like put right into the broadcast, which
- 4:18Speaker 2: just helps the viewers understand the game even more.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Right, So it's not just about seeing more data, but
- 4:24Speaker 1: making sure that that data is interesting to the viewers.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and AI is really key to that because it's
- 4:28Speaker 2: not just about throwing a bunch of numbers on the screen.
- 4:31Speaker 2: It's about using the AI to tell the story of
- 4:34Speaker 2: the game.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I like that. So AI is not just changing how
- 4:37Speaker 1: we're watching the game, but how we're understanding and appreciating it.
- 4:40Speaker 2: And as AI continues to get better, I think we're
- 4:43Speaker 2: going to see even more innovative ways to enhance that
- 4:46Speaker 2: broadcast experience. Like imagine choosing from a bunch of different
- 4:49Speaker 2: camera angles that are all controlled by AI, or even
- 4:52Speaker 2: being able to customize the commentary based on how much
- 4:55Speaker 2: you know about the sport.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Okay, now that's a future that I can get excited about.
- 4:59Speaker 2: You know, this is pretty amazing. But there's this other
- 5:02Speaker 2: side of AI and sports that I think is really
- 5:04Speaker 2: important and it doesn't always get talked about as much,
- 5:06Speaker 2: but I think it might be one of the most
- 5:08Speaker 2: impactful its role in scouting and talent identification.
- 5:13Speaker 1: That's right, because that's an area where AI can really
- 5:16Speaker 1: help make things more fair because in the past it's
- 5:19Speaker 1: always been about who you know and who you can
- 5:22Speaker 1: afford to send to these tournaments and combines and things
- 5:25Speaker 1: like that.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and just imagine like a young athlete in some
- 5:28Speaker 2: tiny village who's incredibly talented and they've never even had
- 5:31Speaker 2: the chance to play in a big competition. AI could
- 5:34Speaker 2: change that.
- 5:35Speaker 1: So we're talking about moving away from just the opinions
- 5:37Speaker 1: of a few scouts and instead using AI to analyze
- 5:41Speaker 1: tons of players all over the world.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Yeah, looking at all sorts of things speed, agility, how
- 5:46Speaker 2: they make decisions under.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Pressure, and even things like their reaction time right exactly.
- 5:50Speaker 2: And AI can do all of that without any of
- 5:52Speaker 2: the biases that a human scout might have. Now it's
- 5:55Speaker 2: just about the data. Can they make the shot? Can
- 5:57Speaker 2: they hit the ball? The numbers don't lie.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I think is so interesting is that AI can spot
- 6:04Speaker 1: potential that might not be obvious to a human scout,
- 6:08Speaker 1: Like it could identify a player who might not be
- 6:10Speaker 1: a superstar today, but they've got the raw talent to
- 6:13Speaker 1: become one, right.
- 6:14Speaker 2: They just need the right coaching and the right training
- 6:16Speaker 2: to get there. And that leads into another area where
- 6:18Speaker 2: I think AI is going to have a big impact
- 6:21Speaker 2: coaching strategy.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Yeah, we talked about that a bit earlier, but I
- 6:23Speaker 1: definitely want to go deeper there. So how is AI
- 6:26Speaker 1: like actually changing the way that coaches are doing their jobs?
- 6:30Speaker 2: So in the past, you know, coaches, they would rely
- 6:33Speaker 2: a lot on their gut and experience, but now AI
- 6:36Speaker 2: is giving coaches a level of insight that we've just
- 6:38Speaker 2: never seen before. Like we're talking algorithms that can watch
- 6:42Speaker 2: every move an athlete makes. It analyzes their biomechanics, their
- 6:45Speaker 2: heart rate, how much sleep they're getting, even what they're eating.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Wow. So it's like a two hundred and seven coaching
- 6:50Speaker 1: staff that's always monitoring the athlete's performance, right.
- 6:54Speaker 2: And AI can use all of this data to create
- 6:57Speaker 2: training programs that are customized to that specif athletes needs
- 7:01Speaker 2: and goals. It can also provide feedback during the training
- 7:05Speaker 2: and alert the coaches if they see something that might
- 7:07Speaker 2: cause an injury.
- 7:08Speaker 1: It's like having this like AI powered personal trainer right
- 7:12Speaker 1: there with them. So with all of this, are human
- 7:16Speaker 1: coaches eventually just going to be obsolete?
- 7:18Speaker 2: I don't think so. Actually, I think it's going to
- 7:20Speaker 2: make the human coaches even better. Because it'll free them
- 7:23Speaker 2: up from doing a lot of the data analysis that
- 7:25Speaker 2: they have to do now and they can focus on
- 7:27Speaker 2: other things like motivating the players or coming up with strategies.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Right, So it's more of a partnership then, right, where
- 7:33Speaker 1: AI is giving the insights and the human coaches providing
- 7:36Speaker 1: the leadership and the human elements exactly.
- 7:39Speaker 2: And speaking of pushing the boundaries, let's talk about how
- 7:42Speaker 2: AI is going to change how fans experience games through
- 7:46Speaker 2: virtual and augmented reality.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Oh yeah, this is where things get super futuristic. So
- 7:52Speaker 1: I've heard a lot about this, how AI is creating
- 7:54Speaker 1: these like really immersive sports experiences that are totally different
- 7:58Speaker 1: from anything we've had before.
- 8:00Speaker 2: It really is something else. Like imagine putting on a
- 8:02Speaker 2: VR headset and then suddenly you're sitting right there on
- 8:05Speaker 2: the court at an NBA game. You can feel the
- 8:09Speaker 2: energy of the crowd, hear the shoes squeaking on the court,
- 8:12Speaker 2: and even see the sweat dripping off the players. That's
- 8:16Speaker 2: the kind of experience AI is making possible.
- 8:19Speaker 1: So it's not just watching the game on TV. You're
- 8:21Speaker 1: actually in the arena right there in the action. And
- 8:24Speaker 1: what about augmented reality how is that being used?
- 8:27Speaker 2: So augmented reality takes digital information and puts it onto
- 8:31Speaker 2: the real world. So think about watching a football game
- 8:34Speaker 2: at home, but you can see live stats, player tracking,
- 8:37Speaker 2: and even like virtual replays all on top of your
- 8:40Speaker 2: TV screen.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Oh wow, So you're getting all this extra info as
- 8:43Speaker 1: you're watching the game live. Yeah.
- 8:44Speaker 2: And there are even companies working on glasses that would
- 8:47Speaker 2: allow fans to experience this at the stadium.
- 8:50Speaker 1: So you could be at the game wearing these special
- 8:53Speaker 1: glasses and see the players' names and stats as they
- 8:55Speaker 1: run past you, or even see different replays right there
- 8:58Speaker 1: in front of you.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Yeah, the potential is really incredible.
- 9:02Speaker 1: This is all so cool. It feels like we're about
- 9:04Speaker 1: to enter this whole new world of sports and entertainment.
- 9:08Speaker 1: But of course we also need to be aware of
- 9:10Speaker 1: some of the challenges and ethical issues that could come
- 9:12Speaker 1: up along the way.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Yeah, because, like any technology, AI can be used for
- 9:16Speaker 2: good or for bad, and we have to think about
- 9:18Speaker 2: things like data privacy and making sure the algorithms are fair,
- 9:21Speaker 2: and we have to make sure that it's not being misused.
- 9:23Speaker 1: So it sounds like the key is finding a balance
- 9:26Speaker 1: between all of this innovation and being responsible. So how
- 9:31Speaker 1: do we embrace the amazing potential of AI but also
- 9:35Speaker 1: make sure that it's helping everyone and not creating new problems.
- 9:39Speaker 2: It's definitely something we have to be talking about as
- 9:41Speaker 2: we move into this new era of AI and sports.
- 9:44Speaker 2: It really is a fascinating time to be a sports
- 9:46Speaker 2: fan because it seems like we're right on the edge
- 9:49Speaker 2: of this huge transformation and AI is leading the way.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Yeah, it's hard not to get caught up in all
- 9:55Speaker 1: the excitement after hearing about all these advancements, but I'm
- 9:58Speaker 1: also thinking about the potential down We've talked about data privacy,
- 10:01Speaker 1: but are there other things that we should be thinking about.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Well, one of the big questions is how AI is
- 10:06Speaker 2: going to impact like the human element of sports. You know,
- 10:10Speaker 2: is it going to make the games too predictable? Take
- 10:12Speaker 2: away the surprise.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Right, because part of what makes sports so fun to
- 10:15Speaker 1: watch is that anything can happen, Like the worst team
- 10:18Speaker 1: can beat the best.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Team, right, Upsets happen all the time, or rookie.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Can just come out of nowhere and be amazing. So
- 10:24Speaker 1: will AI kind of take that away?
- 10:26Speaker 2: It could, And I think the answer to that depends
- 10:28Speaker 2: on how we decide to use the technology. So if
- 10:30Speaker 2: we try to use AI to control every single detail
- 10:33Speaker 2: of a game, then yeah, it probably will make things
- 10:36Speaker 2: more predictable. But if we use it to help people,
- 10:39Speaker 2: then I think it could actually make things more exciting.
- 10:42Speaker 1: So it's more about AI enhancing things, So instead of
- 10:44Speaker 1: replacing human intuition and creativity, it could make those things even.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Better exactly, And just think about it. If players have
- 10:51Speaker 2: access to more information, they can train harder and they
- 10:54Speaker 2: can recover faster, and this could mean that we're going
- 10:57Speaker 2: to see new levels of athleticism and performance that we
- 10:59Speaker 2: can even imagine right now.
- 11:01Speaker 1: And if coaches have access to better analytics, they can
- 11:05Speaker 1: design better plays and make better decisions during the games, right.
- 11:08Speaker 2: They could find weaknesses in their opponents that they didn't
- 11:10Speaker 2: even know were there before.
- 11:12Speaker 1: So it's all about AI pushing people to be even better,
- 11:16Speaker 1: both the players and the coaches, and that's.
- 11:18Speaker 2: What I find so exciting. It's not just about making
- 11:21Speaker 2: things more predictable. It's about using AI to do things
- 11:24Speaker 2: we never thought were possible.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like we're getting a sneak peek into the
- 11:27Speaker 1: future of sports where technology and human skill are working
- 11:32Speaker 1: together to create something incredible.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I like that it's a future where athletes are doing
- 11:38Speaker 2: things we never thought were possible, and fans are more
- 11:40Speaker 2: connected to the game than ever before.
- 11:42Speaker 1: That's a great point. I think it's a perfect place
- 11:44Speaker 1: to wrap up our deep dive. AI isn't just changing
- 11:47Speaker 1: how games are played, but the whole world of sports
- 11:51Speaker 1: and creating opportunities and challenges that we're still just trying
- 11:54Speaker 1: to figure out.
- 11:54Speaker 2: It's definitely a really exciting time to be a part
- 11:57Speaker 2: of it all, and I can't wait to see what's
- 11:59Speaker 2: next for aiports.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I agree. Thank you so much for joining us on
- 12:03Speaker 1: this incredible journey into the world of AI in sports.
- 12:06Speaker 1: We hope that you've learned something new about how technology
- 12:09Speaker 1: is changing the games we love. It was great being here,
- 12:11Speaker 1: and to all our listeners, we want to hear from you.
- 12:14Speaker 1: What part of how AI is changing sports are you
- 12:17Speaker 1: most excited about and what potential downsides were you Let
- 12:22Speaker 1: us know on social media and let's keep this conversation
- 12:24Speaker 1: going until next time. Keep learning, keep exploring, and keep
- 12:28Speaker 1: diving deep.
