- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, my wonderful co-host Luna is here with me. Hey, Luna. Luna: Hey, Lucas. So, last episode we were talking about the ocean and those amazing sea animals. I'm still thinking about the tortuga marina. Lucas: Right, that was a fun one. But today, let's bring things back to land, specifically, into the kitchen. We learned some kitchen items in episode 199, remember, la cocina, el refrigerador, la estufa. Luna: Oh, yes, I remember the refrigerator and the stove. But today, are we going to learn what to do with them? Lucas: Exactly. Today we're diving into some essential kitchen verbs. The first one is cocinar. Cocinar, to cook. Luna: Cocinar, to cook. I like that one. It sounds like, cook in Spanish. Lucas: Yes, similar. So, let's say, Yo cocino la cena. Yo cocino la cena. That means, I cook dinner. Luna: Yo cocino la cena. I cook dinner. That's useful. So if I wanted to say, I'm cooking dinner, I could say that. Lucas: Absolutely. Now, another important one is cortar. Cortar, to cut. Luna: Cortar, to cut. Like cutting vegetables? Cortar las verduras? Lucas: Perfect. So, Voy a cortar las verduras. Voy a cortar las verduras. I'm going to cut the vegetables. Luna: Voy a cortar las verduras. That's a whole sentence. I'm going to cut the vegetables. I can almost picture myself doing it. Lucas: And of course, we can't forget the most enjoyable part, comer. Comer, to eat. Luna: Comer, to eat. I definitely know that one. That's like, yummy. Lucas: Exactly. And what goes with eating? Beber. Beber, to drink. Luna: Beber, to drink. So we have cocinar, cortar, comer, beber. That's a nice little set. Can we put them together in a sentence? Lucas: Sure. For example, Cocino, corto, como y bebo. I cook, I cut, I eat, and I drink. But let's keep it simple for now. Let's practice the verbs individually first. Luna: Okay. So, cocinar, cortar, comer, beber. I think I've got the verbs. But can we try a phrase? Maybe, Yo cocino la cena. Lucas: Great. Yo cocino la cena. Remember, the verb cocinar changes to cocino for 'I'. So, Yo cocino la cena. You try it. Luna: Yo cocino la cena. I cook dinner. That's a good one. And if I want to say, I'm going to cut the vegetables, it's Voy a cortar las verduras. Lucas: Exactly. Voy a cortar las verduras. And don't forget, comer and beber. Maybe, Yo como y bebo. I eat and drink. Luna: Yo como y bebo. That's simple and handy. So, we have these four verbs, and we can make these two useful sentences. This is great for talking about meals. Lucas: Totally. And speaking of meals, let's put this into a tiny scene. Imagine you're in the kitchen with a friend. Luna: Okay. Lucas: You say, Yo cocino la cena. Your friend might ask, ¿Qué vas a cocinar? What are you going to cook? And you could say, Voy a cocinar pasta. I'm going to cook pasta. Luna: Oh, that's nice. So, first I say, Yo cocino la cena. Then, maybe, Voy a cortar las verduras. And then, Yo como y bebo. That's a whole story. Lucas: You got it. Lucas: Beber. Luna: Beber. Lucas: Perfect. Now, let's put them into sentences. Yo cocino la cena. Luna: Yo cocino la cena. Lucas: Voy a cortar las verduras. Luna: Voy a cortar las verduras. Lucas: And a fun one, Yo como y bebo. Luna: Yo como y bebo. Lucas: Awesome. Now, let's do a quick mini-dialogue. I'll be the friend. You start. Luna: Okay. Yo cocino la cena. Lucas: ¿Qué vas a cocinar? Luna: Voy a cocinar pasta. Lucas: Perfect. And maybe I say, ¿Necesitas ayuda? Do you need help? And you say, Sí, voy a cortar las verduras. Yes, I'm going to cut the vegetables. Luna: Sí, voy a cortar las verduras. That's a great way to use it. And then after that, we can eat and drink. Yo como y bebo. Lucas: Exactly. So, we have cocinar, cortar, comer, beber. These are essential for any kitchen conversation. Let's go through them one more time, slowly. Luna: Good idea. Lucas: Cocinar... cocinar. That's to cook. Luna: To cook. Cocinar. Lucas: Cortar... cortar. To cut. Luna: To cut. Cortar. Lucas: Comer... comer. To eat. Luna: To eat. Comer. Lucas: And beber... beber. To drink. Luna: To drink. Beber. I feel like I've got these down now. Lucas: You did great. So, today we learned cocinar, cortar, comer, beber, and the phrases Yo cocino la cena and Voy a cortar las verduras. Try using them the next time you're in the kitchen, even if you're just talking to yourself. Luna: That's a good tip. I'll try that. Thanks for joining us on Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Remember to practice these until we talk again. Lucas: See you next time. Bye!
