- 1:22SPEAKER_02: Welcome to the thirty-fourth episode of Conversations with the Hoff.
- 1:26SPEAKER_04: Ooh, thirty-four.
- 1:27SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: 34.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: Coming to you from the Liberty Crack Media studio, just off of Ocean Boulevard on the beautiful Grand Strand.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: I'm Steve Hoffman, your host, and with me in the studio today is the executive producer of Liberty Crack Media, Trip Detmering.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Hello, everyone.
- 1:49SPEAKER_04: And I'm so glad you're going to be on this podcast with us today, so you can take a trip too.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's going to be quite illuminating.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: Last week, as you know, we talked about industrial hemp.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: And today, for lack of a better word, we're going to discuss pharmaceutical hemp.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Hemp is one of the most studied plants in modern pharmacology, yet one of the most misunderstood.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: Today we're breaking down the CBD and THC aspects that make hemp medically relevant.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: If hemp were discovered today, it would be hailed as a breakthrough in natural medicine.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: Instead, it spent decades, well let's make that centuries, fighting stigma.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: So let's talk about what research actually shows and why this plant might deserve a second look.
- 2:50SPEAKER_04: Hang on, people, it looks like Steve's going through reefer madness.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: Don't mess with my gummies.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: So so during the discussion, we're going to look at the difference between hemp and marijuana.
- 3:05SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: There is a difference, but you'll be surprised.
- 3:09SPEAKER_04: I always am.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: We'll look at hemp CBD versus marijuana CBD.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: And as everybody probably knows by now, uh I take a CBD gummy every night.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: I I live by them.
- 3:25SPEAKER_04: Awesome.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: We'll also go through what I call Steve's pharmacopia of hemp.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: Ha ha ha.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: What are the components of hemp?
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: What's inside there?
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: And what do those components do to your body?
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: So we'll talk about that.
- 3:40SPEAKER_04: I I like it because it's uh almost an homage to Vice's uh Hamilton's pharmacopia, so I love it.
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I used to watch that.
- 3:50SPEAKER_04: I wouldn't miss it.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: But we're not with no shrooms on this show, though, just strictly hemp and marijuana based.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: Also, I'm gonna talk a little bit about the medical and health benefits of hemp.
- 4:04SPEAKER_04: Awesome.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: And why I prefer what we call the low dose CBD and THC method.
- 4:15SPEAKER_04: Excellent.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Why low dose?
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: What why don't I like the high dose?
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: Well, you're gonna find out.
- 4:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, tell us Willie Nelson.
- 4:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:24SPEAKER_04: Old Snoop Dogg over there.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, I'm definitely an advocate of THC.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm not your typical uh libertarian uh drugie.
- 4:35SPEAKER_04: As he puts his braids under his hat.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: So what exactly is the difference between marijuana and hemp?
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: I mean, we all know that marijuana makes you want to rape and kill her, right?
- 4:48SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's right.
- 4:48SPEAKER_04: Reefer madness, reformadness.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: Reefer madness, yeah.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: Well, there is a difference.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: And primarily it's a legal difference.
- 4:58SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: Hemp is cannabis with 0.3% THC or less.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: Marijuana is also cannabis, but basically with more than 0.3% THC.4 or greater, okay.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: And uh this 0.3% threshold comes straight out of the 2018 U.S.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: Farm Bill.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: Boo.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: And what that did is overnight it made hemp legal.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: And while anything over that line is still considered marijuana under federal law.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: So you got the same plant, but you got a different legal universe.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: So so marijuana and hemp are both cannabis sativa.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: Cannabis sativa.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: That's what they both are.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: They share 99.9% of their DNA.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: The difference is not botanical, the difference is chemical.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: Ah.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: So hemp has been bred to produce almost no THC and often high CBD.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: Marijuana, on the other hand, is bred for the high.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: You gotta have as much THC as possible.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: Rubble rabbit.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, commonly commonly 15 to 30 percent THC in marijuana.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: Ah, okay.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: And also the distinction has to do at the farm level, the farmers.
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: When the farmers grow hemp, they grow it for fiber or grain, and it's plant planted very densely.
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: Tall, thin, almost like bamboo fields.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: But when they grow CBD for hemp for CBD hemp, it looks more like uh a marijuana.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: It's spaced out, bushy with lots of flowers.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: So you got the industrial hemp, which is as thick as possible, and then you got the CBD hemp where they space it out a little bit.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: Now, marijuana, on the other hand, marijuana is treated like a specialty crop.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: Remember, it's the same plant.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: But why does it why does it have different effects?
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: Because the growers prune it, they space it, and they optimize it for resin-rich buds.
- 7:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: In other words, they do the tailoring, you know, the different strains.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: And uh think of it as a difference between growing corn or growing orchids.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: Ah.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: So that's that's kind of the a good way to describe the differences between uh hemp and marijuana.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: Now, what they're used for, hemp is used, it's primarily your industrial workhorse.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: If you listened to my last episode, you'll know that hemp is used for rope, textiles, paper, hemp create food products, protein powder, cooking oil, and now we're gonna talk about CBD supplements too.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 8:13SPEAKER_02: And why is marijuana grown?
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: Well, everybody knows the answer to that.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: For its psychoactive effect effects.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: And it's used in the medicinal or recreational products.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: Designed specifically to deliver THC.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: Two different markets, one species of plant.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: Utterly amazing.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: It is, it really is.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: Okay, so how does SEMP we're gonna be talking about C B D, right?
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: How does SEMP hemp C B C B D differ from marijuana C B D?
- 8:54SPEAKER_04: I have no idea.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: Well, you've probably seen C B D everywhere.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: You've seen it in gas stations, grocery stores, online shops, dispensaries.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: But not all CBD is the same.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: And there is a there is a breakdown on that difference.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: The core difference I'm gonna talk about right now.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: Um in CBD is identical, but HAMP CBD, as I mentioned before, is legally required to have only less than 0.3% THC.
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: The additional components in the hemp.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: While marijuana CBD often contains significant THC.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: So really the C B D molecule doesn't change.
- 9:44SPEAKER_02: What does change is everything around it.
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: So so the real the real difference is the THC content, the legal status and the effects that come along with the ride.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: So hemp CBD has no psychoactive effects.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: It's federally legal, and it's uh got if you had to take a drug test tomorrow, if you were using hemp CHD, C B D C B D.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: C H D.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: C B D.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: Uh it wouldn't come out on the on a drug step test.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: It wouldn't, it wouldn't detect it.
- 10:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:22SPEAKER_04: Well, because it's not looking for it, so yeah.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and as I mentioned, the hemp C B D is easy to find.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: Just find it anywhere and get it over the counter, right?
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: And the hemp CBD is primarily used to treat anxiety, inflammation, to help you sleep better, and for general wellness.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: It's subtle, non-intoxicating, and they say it's great for daytime use.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: Now, I don't know anybody that's popping popping uh CBD C B D.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: I I I myself use it at night.
- 10:57SPEAKER_04: I I used to do it uh for swelling.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: Um I used to do the sublingual C BD.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I've seen people rub uh CBD oil on their knees or something if they have uh sore knees and stuff like that.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there's a uh there's a product that I use um that oftentimes is paired with uh lidocaine, and it's called hemp vana.
- 11:19SPEAKER_04: Okay, yeah, and it's a cream that you put on uh things.
- 11:23SPEAKER_04: So well, there you go.
- 11:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, great for inflammation.
- 11:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, a great example of what you've got got here.
- 11:29SPEAKER_04: They'd be a great sponsor if they're listening.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: Um I'm working on it.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: So if you want C BD without the high, then hemp is your choice.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: Marijuana CBD, what makes a difference?
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: Marijuana CBD, as I mentioned before, can contain up to three to thirty percent THC, depending on the strain.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: And that means it has possible psychoactive effects.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: It means you get high.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: And it's only legal in medical or recreational cannabis states.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: Not all states uh can can you buy the the high THC type of uh C B D.
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: And if you have to take a drug test for work, yeah, there's a possibility that it you're gonna show positive for THC.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: Also, marijuana CBD is only available in most states in dispensaries.
- 12:45SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: It's got to be a state-approved dispensary.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: You just can't sell it over the counter.
- 12:50SPEAKER_04: Uh-huh.
- 12:50SPEAKER_04: So you can't get it from uh Roscoe on the street corner.
- 12:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: Well, he might be selling.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: What are you, a narc?
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: Now, marijuana CBD is often chosen for pain management, severe anxiety, and it's used to treat uh epilepsy.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: Conditions where the THC synergy, often called the entourage effect, make a meaningful difference.
- 13:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I and I I remember the woman in Scotland that fought to make sure she could get the THC for her son that suff suffered seizures.
- 13:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's uh a lady here in South Carolina who's very active and trying to get the medical marijuana passed.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: And her her daughter has seizures.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: And she had to go out of state to get the the CBD to help treat her daughter.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: And and and it works, you know, it's a and uh that that's the problem.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: It works.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: It a lot of people could really use a higher potency THC type of gummy or C B D for medical conditions, but some states just won't allow it.
- 14:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:05SPEAKER_04: You you you might feel good.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: Okay, so now I'm gonna give you Steve's pharmacopia of hemp.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, there we go.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: Here we come.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: What's inside hemp?
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: What is hemp?
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: Well, hemp is loaded, it's chemically rich.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: It's loaded with over 120 cytocannabinoids plus terpenes and flavonoids that contribute to the therapeutic profile.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: Most commonly people are know about the CBD.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: That's a non-intoxicating, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and analgesic component of hemp.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: It also has CBG.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: Ah.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: Now CBG hasn't been studied as much as the CBD, but it also has uh antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects.
- 15:02SPEAKER_04: Interesting.
- 15:02SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 15:03SPEAKER_04: CBG.
- 15:04SPEAKER_04: So they're probably exploring products and stuff now with this new CBG that they're studying.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Now that uh our illustrious president has taken uh marijuana off the Schedule One list, more and more companies now are doing research on marijuana and hemp and CBD and THC.
- 15:25SPEAKER_03: Ah, okay.
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: We're getting a lot more research, so they're learning a lot more about just what uh what is this uh what I call the miracle plant.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: Well, there's also CBDV.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: V.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and we got we got the CBD, the CBG, and then the CBDV.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: And this is being studied for its use for seizure disorders.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: Ah, okay.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: Like epilepsy.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: Okay, then we have the terpenes.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: And I can't even pronounce half these things: karyophylline, mycine, limonine, and what they do, they add aroma to the product, but they also support anti-inflammatory and mic antimicrobial uh aspects of the of the hemp.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: And then the the last one is flavonoids, which I have some experience with.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: Uh huh.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: Steve knows about flavonoids.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: He does.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: And they include the canaflavins A and B, and they show strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential.
- 16:33SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: Now I'm not going to go on a rant, but remember the COVID pandemic?
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: That's where I first came in contact with flavonoids.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: There was a thing called the Zelensky Protocol, where he kind of divided the population into risks.
- 16:49SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: And if you had a certain risk of getting uh uh COVID, then like a mid-range risk, he recommended taking uh things like uh ivermectin, uh hydroxychloroquine, but also uh uh a product called quercetin.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: And quercetin is a half flavonoid.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: And along with uh quercetin, you should take what they call bromaline.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: Bromaline is a flavonoid from grapefruit.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: Interesting.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: So if you took quercetin with the bromaline and also maybe a zinc pill, that would that would minimize your risk of dying of COVID.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: You'd probably everybody was going to get COVID.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: But if you if you used the protocol, the Zelensky protocol, you'd probably only have the flu for like maybe two to four days.
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: And that's why Steve Hoffman is alive today.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: That's why this almost 80-year-old fart is still alive.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: Because I you better believe I have my ivermectin.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: You better believe I have my quercetin at home.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: So flavonoids, even though if you go and Google what they're good for, and it only says they're antioxidants and anti-inflammatory, they're also antiviral.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: Oh, fantastic.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: And a huge, I can tell you that why they're antiviral, but that would take another 30 minutes.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: So we'll we'll leave that for another date.
- 18:17SPEAKER_02: Okay, so how does the hemp work in the body?
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: We've already talked about its anti-inflammatory and analgesic aspects from CBD and trace THC.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: Neuroprotective, we've already talked about it.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: It's really good.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: And the studies for the treatment of epilepsy and also Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Like I said, there's a lot of research going on these days.
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: It also has what they call immunomodulation effects.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: It influences cytokine signaling.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: Now, what the heck is that?
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: Cytokine signal signaling is the way that cells, your body cells, talk to each other.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: And they need to be able to talk to each other to overcome certain illnesses and afflictions.
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: Well, CBD, the hemp CBD actually helps them do that.
- 19:13SPEAKER_02: Also, there are the antimicrobial effects from select uh cannabinoids and terpenes.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: And so we we we see that uh hemp is used traditionally for pain release, relief, digestive support, skin inflammation, neurological symptoms like tremors and spasms, and mild appetite stimulation.
- 19:36SPEAKER_04: Aha, mild appetite stimulation.
- 19:39SPEAKER_04: Whoa, I'll tell you what, go through about six bags of Doritos one night.
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: I don't know how mild that is.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: That wasn't the hemp stimulus.
- 19:51SPEAKER_02: You've been taking that other stuff, not the hemp CBD.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: Okay, so there are real medical and health benefits from hemp C BD.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: Like I say, there have been numerous studies.
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: And these aren't just hypothetical results, these are proven results.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: The strongest evidence for uh why you would use CBD are people with seizure disorders.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: That's the most studies that have occurred, and it's proven that they will definitely dramatically reduce seizures.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: Perfect.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: There's even an FDA-approved drug called Epidioxlex.
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: I can't kind of where do they get these names?
- 20:37SPEAKER_04: I it sounds like a Marvel villain.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: Lex.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: And uh there it's used, uh, the CBD is used to treat uh uh epilepsy and other um seizure type seizure type of illnesses right okay now there's also been a lot of other research uh that show that uh hemp CBD has a real potential for anxiety relief.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: And one of the studies that that's mostly uh called out is a 2011 study that found reduced anxiety before public speaking after you take 600 milligrams of CBD.
- 21:21SPEAKER_04: Uh-huh.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: I haven't tried that.
- 21:25SPEAKER_04: Hey, there's always next week.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Okay, CBD also improves sleep.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: There was a 2019 study that showed in improvements in people with anxiety, anxiety-related uh insomnia.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: So it helps to improve sleep.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: We all know it helps pain and inflammation.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: It's also used in uh, let's say, uh drug rehab centers.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: Because it is shown to reduce cravings uh for tobacco, heroin, and alcohol.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: Now, like any pharmaceutical, like any drug or whatever, there are side effects.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: What?
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: Uh constant use of high dosage CBD can affect the liver.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: So you wanna want to check your if you're gonna be on C BD every day, probably higher levels, and you might want to occasionally have uh your liver uh checked.
- 22:26SPEAKER_04: Okay, because I know THC does not affect the liver, but CBD does.
- 22:30SPEAKER_04: CBD can.
- 22:31SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: That is the word is can.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: It's not very widespread, but it can.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: It's something that you need to, you know, I have to be honest with everybody.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: Yes, I love CBD, I love THC, but there are risks out there.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: So I'm telling you some of the risks.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: Also, if you're on blood thinners, antiepileptics, or immunosuppressants, you probably should avoid CBD.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, interesting.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: And if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, you should also obviously I was just breastfeeding a few hours ago.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: That's why that note, because it's good.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: Obviously, if you're pregnant or you're breastfeeding, stay away from drugs.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: You know, see your doctor and and stay away from drugs.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: You don't want to have any bad consequences.
- 23:19SPEAKER_04: True.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: Also, you must be aware that today CBD is poorly regulated.
- 23:27SPEAKER_04: Ah.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: Anyone can sell CBD.
- 23:30SPEAKER_04: Unless you're in Myrtle Beach along the beach.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: It's kind of like gas station sushi, right?
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: Buyer beware.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: Products may contain a lot higher than normal THC.
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: It couldn't contain pesticides, heavy metals.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: The labels may not be accurate.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: Some products also contain, and some of my uh Microsoft monkey guys love this stuff.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: It's called Delta H THC.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: DC, yep.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Delta H Delta 8 THC is not natural.
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: It's derived in a laboratory.
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: So it's not a natural product.
- 24:12SPEAKER_04: A real pharmacopia, yeah.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: So these are some of the biggest uh biggest risks that there are.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: So if you're gonna buy a CBD product, I recommend that you look for a certificate of analysis.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: I buy my C BD at a CBD store, and right on the package is a certificate of analysis.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: It's been analyzed by an independent lab.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: So I'm no I'm not I'm not getting a bunch of heavy metals and I'm getting the proper amount of uh CBD and THC that that I need for my my nightly routine.
- 24:50SPEAKER_04: Well, you uh it did uh just for giggles, tell people what your nightly routine is, what you what you take.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: Okay, I I take uh a CBD from a company called uh what are they called?
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: Can of Better Farms is called.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: And it's a blood orange flavored CBD.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: It has five milligrams of CBD and one milligram of THC.
- 25:15SPEAKER_04: Ah.
- 25:16SPEAKER_04: And you because you were having trouble sleeping, correct?
- 25:19SPEAKER_04: And then this helps you.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: Okay, uh most of us men don't really have a whole lot of trouble sleeping, but sometimes we do.
- 25:30SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: Uh there's a c a comedian that says that man has a box in his brain that's empty.
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: And we go to the empty box because it makes us feel safe and secure and calm.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: And that's what helps a lot of men sleep.
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: Now, women, on the other hand, don't have that empty box, especially my wife.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: That box in women has every idea they've ever had since they were born.
- 25:52SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: And it keeps churning and churning and churning.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: So their mind keeps going and going and going.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: So they they find it hard to go to sleep.
- 26:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: So many women like my wife, they have to take uh sedatives.
- 26:05SPEAKER_04: Oh, opioids, yeah.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: Heavy drugs, and who knows what the side effects are or the long-term side effects of those drugs are on the human body.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 26:15SPEAKER_04: Or nervousism.
- 26:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: So that's why I wish that my wife would switch to the CBD products.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: Because you wouldn't have those side effects.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: So so if you if you're gonna use CBD, um start low, go slow.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: Start low, go slow.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: And uh if you d still have confidence after your with your doctor after the COVID fiasco, then you might want to talk to the doctor about uh taking C B D.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: So CBD is not a miracle cure, but it is a scientifically supported tool for specific conditions, especially seizure disorders, with and also has promising potential for anxiety, sleep pain, and addiction research.
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: So I mentioned earlier go low, go slow.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: There you go, yeah.
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: I believe in the benefits of what what we call low dose C B D and THC.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: Because when most people think of THC or CBD, they often imagine strong effects, intense highs or heavy sedation.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: But at low doses, cannabinoids operate in a completely different manner.
- 27:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: They can support mood, sleep, inflammation, and pain without the overwhelming psychoactive punch.
- 27:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:49SPEAKER_04: As as Darren would say, it puts you on a different frequency.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: Right, indubitably.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: Low dose C B D tends to calm the mind and reduce inflammation.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: Low dose THC tends to lift mood and ease pain.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: And when you combine them, you get a balanced synergy, often called the entourage effect.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: The benefits of low dose C B D obviously we talked about some of this, uh anxiety reduction, anti-inflammatory support, uh sleep regulation.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: It helps you to stabilize sleep cycles.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: And it's got the uh neuroprotection uh aspects of it also.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: Now low dose uh THC benefits are also therapeutic for pain relief, mood enhancement, and appetite s stimulation.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: As you know, if you're under undergoing chemotherapy, like for cancer, right?
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: A lot of a lot of doctors recommend you you take THC or or or CBD with THC.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: Because it stimulates the appetite.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: It gets you eating again.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: And it also has an effect that it a lot of people get nausea.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: And it will help to uh prevent the nausea also.
- 29:09SPEAKER_02: So when it comes to sleep, now this is important, THC helps with sleep onset.
- 29:17SPEAKER_02: It helps you to go to sleep.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: Remember that.
- 29:21SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: So what's the power?
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: So what's the power of combining THC and C B D?
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: When they work together, their effects become more balanced and more effective.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: CBD can soften THC's psychoactive intensity, making the experience smoother.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: Together they enhance the pain relief by working through different biological pathways.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: CBD also helps reduce THC induced anxiety for people who are sensitive to it.
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: Now let's talk about sleep.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: The reason I have this the THC component in my gummies is THC helps you fall asleep.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Gotcha.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: Okay, now but once you fall asleep, what C B D does it helps you keep you asleep.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 30:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: So I fall asleep quickly and I have a good night's long sleep.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: That's the synergistic effect, the entourage effect of combining THC with C B D.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: So low low dose cannabinoids.
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: Low dose.
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: Low dose.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: They aren't about getting high.
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: They're about getting help.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: Whether it's calming the mind, easing pain, supporting sleep, improving mood, low dose THC and CBD offer a gentle, gentler, more controlled way to tap into the therapeutic potential of the cannabis plant.
- 31:06SPEAKER_04: Well, Steve, let me put my red hat on here for a minute and say, hey, are are you advocating doing this?
- 31:12SPEAKER_04: Isn't this a gateway to heroin?
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Okay, you're gonna find out about that in my closing.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: There we go.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: Remember, CBD has been around, or hemp's been around since the beginning of man.
- 31:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: Um when uh Christopher Columbus sailed to discover the new world, he was financed by who?
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: King Ferdinand?
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: And guess what King Ferdinand gave the crew of the ship?
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: Harlan.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: Hemp seeds.
- 31:45SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 31:46SPEAKER_04: Hemp seeds, okay.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: The ropes used on the ship were hemp ropes.
- 31:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: They tied everything together so that the ships wouldn't sink.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: And they were instructed when they landed at the New World, their main one of their main missions was to plant hemp seed.
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: Because they knew that you know they could be used for all kinds of things.
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: They would need all kinds of materials in the New World.
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: Sure, sure.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: So hemp's been around for centuries.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: Hemp has traveled a long road from ancient remedy to cultural controversy to a renewed place in modern wellness.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: And if there's one thing today's conversation makes clear, is this hemp isn't a miracle.
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: It isn't a myth.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: It's a plant with real biochemical tools, real therm therapeutic potential, and real questions still worth exploring.
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: As research expands, as regulations evolve, and as more people share their experiences, we're watching a shift from stigma to science, from assumptions to evidence, and that shift matters because it opens the door to safer options, smarter conversations, and a more honest understanding of what natural medicine can offer.
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: So whether hemp becomes a part of your routine or simply a part of your pure curiosity, keep asking questions.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Keep looking at the data, keep paying attention to the many ways that nature continues to surprise us.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: So until next time, stay curious, stay informed, and stay well.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: And no hemp CBD is not going to make you want to rape and kill.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: Aww.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: I think we've gone we've gone beyond that.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: So um thanks for listening.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: And uh now a word from our executive producer, Tripp Detmering.
- 33:45SPEAKER_04: Oh, this has been another fantastic episode and very informative of Conversations with the Hoff.
