- 0:12Hello friends. Sean here.
- 0:14Good to have your company. Thank you for clicking, tapping,
- 0:18pressing, choosing, biometrically, blinking at,
- 0:22telling Siri to or Alexa or any other verb that you've used to
- 0:28bring me into your day. Thank you and hello.
- 0:31Good to see you will not see you.
- 0:32Good to have your company. Here we are.
- 0:34It's a Thursday and we are entering a whole new era, not
- 0:40like in humanity, but in the book of Isaiah.
- 0:43We have entered the last 11 chapters of Isaiah and this a
- 0:49lot of scholars believe this last section, This was the part
- 0:53of Isaiah that was written after the exile, after God's people
- 0:57had been pulled away to Babylon and then sent back by the
- 1:01Persians into their home country of Israel.
- 1:06Well, their previous home country of Israel.
- 1:08And this is where the attention now shifts to rebuilding the
- 1:13promised land once again. And also, there is lots of talk
- 1:16about it not just being them that God saves, but God will
- 1:19save all people, people who come to him.
- 1:23So that is the section we're about to read over the next 11
- 1:26readings. But today we're not quite up to
- 1:30all of that. This is just the next section as
- 1:33God starts to talk about wanting to bless everyone, not just
- 1:36Israel. So join me as we buckle into the
- 1:40last leg of this rollercoaster ride of Isaiah, reading
- 1:45together. Isaiah, Chapter 56.
- 1:58This is what the Lord says. Be just and fair to all.
- 2:03Do what is right and good, For I am coming soon to rescue you and
- 2:09to display my righteousness among you.
- 2:12Blessed are all those who are careful to do this.
- 2:16Blessed are those who honour my Sabbath days of rest and keep
- 2:19themselves from doing wrong. Don't let foreigners who commit
- 2:23themselves to the Lord say the Lord will never let us be part
- 2:27of His people. And don't let the eunuchs say
- 2:30I'm a dried up tree with no children and no future, for this
- 2:35is what the Lord says. I will bless those eunuchs who
- 2:39keep my Sabbath days holy, and to choose to do what pleases me
- 2:44and commit their lives to me. I will give them within the
- 2:48walls of my house a memorial and a name far greater than sons and
- 2:54daughters could give, For the name I give them is an
- 2:57everlasting one. It will never disappear.
- 3:01I will also bless the foreigners who commit themselves to the
- 3:05Lord, who serve him and love his name, who worship him and do not
- 3:10desecrate the Sabbath day of rest, and who hold fast to my
- 3:14covenant. I will bring them to my holy
- 3:17mountain of Jerusalem and will fill them with joy in my House
- 3:22of prayer. I will accept their burnt
- 3:25offerings and sacrifices, because my temple will be called
- 3:29a House of prayer for all nations.
- 3:32For the sovereign Lord who brings back the outcasts of
- 3:35Israel, says, I will bring others too, besides my people.
- 3:41Israel, come, wild animals of the field.
- 3:45Come, wild animals of the forest.
- 3:47Come and devour my people for the leaders of my people.
- 3:52The Lord's Watchmen. His shepherds are blind and
- 3:56ignorant. They are like silent watchdogs
- 3:59that give no warning when danger comes.
- 4:02They love to lie around, sleeping and dreaming.
- 4:05Like greedy dogs, they are never satisfied.
- 4:09They ignore shepherds all following their own path and
- 4:13intent on personal gain. Come, they say, let's get some
- 4:18wine and have a party. Let's all get drunk.
- 4:21Then tomorrow we'll do it again and even have a bigger party.
- 4:36Lord, let us not forget how big your heart is.
- 4:41Let us not confuse your intimacy with us as exclusivity.
- 4:48Your heart is for all people. You want every single person on
- 4:53this planet and whoever will be on this planet to love you and
- 4:57come to you and land in your embrace because they are your
- 5:02beloved children. We all are, as we go about our
- 5:07day-to-day, shape our hearts and give us your lens to see every
- 5:12person we encounter as a precious, dignified, beloved
- 5:17child of yours. And boy, wouldn't that just
- 5:21reshape the way that we engage with people.
- 5:25Thank you for your faithfulness to us and to all.
- 5:29We love you and we are so grateful that you stand ready to
- 5:33forgive, ready to draw back, ready to embrace.
- 5:40Yes, you are marvelous and we love you and we pray all of this
- 5:43in Jesus name. Amen.
