• 3:04
Speaker 3: about the organization. I kind of butchered the names are
• 3:07
Speaker 3: called the nursing This soci's actually Nursery West Virginia Nursery
• 3:10
Speaker 3: and Landscape Association INK. Tell us about the organization. First,
• 3:13
Speaker 3: what do you do that actually happens a lot?
• 3:15
  Speaker 6: I don't feel that.
• 3:17
Speaker 7: We are a statewide professional trade organization of wholesil and
• 3:21
Speaker 7: retail growers, nurseries, landscapers, green industry suppliers, so things like
• 3:27
Speaker 7: hardscape mulch educators, public space maintainers, landscape architects, designers, and
• 3:35
Speaker 7: we do some advocacy. We do education for provide education
• 3:39
Speaker 7: for our members, concentrating on best practices, helping them to
• 3:43
Speaker 7: be the best they can be. We offer Our biggest
• 3:48
Speaker 7: education event of the year is coming up, as you
• 3:50
Speaker 7: said on Tuesday, it's our Winter Symposium.
• 3:53
Speaker 6: Looking forward to that very much.
• 3:55
Speaker 7: We bring in speakers on a national level and of
• 4:00
Speaker 7: course the Mountain States speakers as well, and it's really
• 4:03
Speaker 7: an unusual opportunity for folks in the industry to hear
• 4:07
Speaker 7: from those folks, you know. We have someone coming in
• 4:08
Speaker 7: from Philadelphia, another from New Jersey. These are not folks
• 4:12
Speaker 7: that you're going to hear locally otherwise, so they are
• 4:16
Speaker 7: some real experts in their fields.
• 4:18
  Speaker 6: We have two.
• 4:19
Speaker 7: Tracks the programming for the day has a design track
• 4:24
Speaker 7: focusing on landscape design and a profit track focusing on
• 4:28
Speaker 7: growing your business all kinds of techniques for that. So
• 4:33
Speaker 7: on the design side, we have someone coming in to
• 4:36
Speaker 7: speak about designing a garden for fragrance, which is different
• 4:41
Speaker 7: from you most usually are designing for appearance. We have
• 4:45
Speaker 7: someone talking about the importance of soil amendments and biochar
• 4:50
Speaker 7: adding that to you what a difference that can make
• 4:52
Speaker 7: if you add to your soil. We have a w
• 4:55
Speaker 7: landscape architecture professor coming in to talk about and design,
• 5:00
Speaker 7: giving a kind of a historic perspective and finishing out
• 5:03
Speaker 7: on the design side, we have someone coming in from
• 5:06
Speaker 7: Lumian Lighting that's going to talk about the evolution of
• 5:09
Speaker 7: outdoor lighting, which is another component of green industry design.
• 5:15
Speaker 6: On the business side.
• 5:17
Speaker 7: We have Jody Schillian, who is a designed to build
• 5:20
Speaker 7: sort of guru really for the industry, and he's going
• 5:23
Speaker 7: to do a couple of sessions on taking design build
• 5:27
Speaker 7: process from the call to initial call to the final payment.
• 5:30
Speaker 7: And then I'm really excited about after lunch, we have
• 5:33
Speaker 7: a panel discussion of experts on we have someone on taxis,
• 5:38
Speaker 7: we have someone speaking about health and safety requirements for
• 5:42
Speaker 7: your employees, and we have a Mitch woodrom Commissioner of
• 5:45
Speaker 7: the West Virginian Division of Labor talking to us about
• 5:48
Speaker 7: licensing and permitting. And it's going to be a really
• 5:50
Speaker 7: nice opportunity for folks that are starting out a business,
• 5:55
Speaker 7: trying to grow their business to we just to get
• 5:58
  Speaker 7: the tools.
• 5:58
Speaker 6: To do it right.
• 5:59
Speaker 7: We want to make sure folks are doing it the
• 6:01
Speaker 7: right way, so they're going to be having opportunity to
• 6:04
Speaker 7: ask questions. And then finally on that side of the programming,
• 6:09
Speaker 7: we have Will Miller with the West Virginia Small Business
• 6:12
Speaker 7: Development Center and he's going to talk about harnessing social
• 6:14
Speaker 7: media i A for your marketing. Small businesses typically don't
• 6:19
Speaker 7: have a big marketing budget, so he's going to provide
• 6:23
Speaker 7: some tools for that.
• 6:23
Speaker 3: Will's very good at what he does. Will is a
• 6:25
Speaker 3: very good friend of mine.
• 6:26
  Speaker 4: Oh good.
• 6:26
Speaker 3: Don't tell him my complimented him on the air. He's
• 6:30
Speaker 3: very good. He's and he's a great uh, he's all around.
• 6:34
Speaker 3: He's very good at what he does. And I'm sure
• 6:35
Speaker 3: there'll be a lot of information available there well, some.
• 6:38
Speaker 7: Really like as I said, some really good experts and
• 6:41
Speaker 7: an opportunity to hear from them.
• 6:42
Speaker 3: Talking with the Julie Robinson again from the west fordin
• 6:45
Speaker 3: Nursing and Nursery and Landscape Association about their Wintersimposium, which
• 6:50
Speaker 3: is happening next Tuesday at Embassy Suites here in Charles
• 6:52
Speaker 3: so Dave Aland showing five Dye Live, brought to you
• 6:54
Speaker 3: in part by snap Pittiness. Snap offers a wide array
• 6:56
Speaker 3: of professional wellness services, including customized personal training, licensed recovery experts,
• 7:01
Speaker 3: and staff of dietitians. Five great locations Charleston, Hurricane, Winfield, Barbersville,
• 7:05
Speaker 3: and Milton. Visit snapfitness dot com for more details. Let's
• 7:08
Speaker 3: talk about what kind of an industry this is nationwide.
• 7:11
Speaker 3: I mean, this is a multi million, possibly billion dollar business.
• 7:15
Speaker 3: Talk about that aspect of us.
• 7:17
  Speaker 6: And it's growing.
• 7:18
Speaker 7: It's growing out through the entire country, of course, but
• 7:21
Speaker 7: in West Virginia also growing recent years growth has about
• 7:25
Speaker 7: been about six percent and in the upcoming year they're
• 7:29
Speaker 7: expecting about a four percent growth. So with that comes
• 7:35
Speaker 7: a need for a pipeline of qualified workers. So we
• 7:39
Speaker 7: do some work with workforce development trying to get skilled
• 7:43
Speaker 7: workers in place for our members. We've done that on
• 7:47
Speaker 7: the high school at career tech level. On the community
• 7:51
Speaker 7: college level, we've worked with the Jobs and Hope program
• 7:55
Speaker 7: through Patriot Gardens. They've done they offer a loan and
• 7:58
Speaker 7: landscape tech position and that we are sorry.
• 8:01
Speaker 6: Training that we work with them on.
• 8:03
Speaker 7: So those are all efforts that we are making trying
• 8:07
Speaker 7: to get people to realize what great careers are available
• 8:10
  Speaker 7: in this industry.
• 8:12
Speaker 3: And I would think maybe I'm wrong because technology takes
• 8:14
Speaker 3: all different forms, but in the world of AI that
• 8:17
Speaker 3: we're living in now, I think this is pretty much
• 8:19
Speaker 3: an industry that's going to be around. I mean, there's
• 8:22
Speaker 3: only so much that you can that that you can
• 8:24
Speaker 3: do with computers here, right, and it's actually hands on
• 8:27
  Speaker 3: kind of stuff.
• 8:27
Speaker 6: It is very hands on. Absolutely.
• 8:29
Speaker 7: There are there are, of course, lots of behind the
• 8:31
Speaker 7: scenes jobs and uh, but a lot the majority of
• 8:35
Speaker 7: the work is going to be outside.
• 8:36
Speaker 3: So that's I think I think this stuff is fascinating
• 8:39
Speaker 3: as far as the from a business to always look
• 8:41
Speaker 3: at the business standpoint about uh uh. And I don't
• 8:44
Speaker 3: want to turn this political in any way, but I
• 8:46
Speaker 3: won't ask you that. Just time for that later on
• 8:48
Speaker 3: the show with other guests. Any concerns about with what
• 8:52
Speaker 3: we're hearing in the news about uh, about political stuff
• 8:57
Speaker 3: about changes to the industry or anything like that, and
• 8:59
Speaker 3: any conn of course.
• 9:01
Speaker 6: Always always our industry.
• 9:04
Speaker 7: Some of our employers, not not all by any means,
• 9:07
Speaker 7: rely on the H two be Visa program seasonal workers
• 9:12
Speaker 7: program that brings in workers from other countries to fill
• 9:16
Speaker 7: the jobs that frankly.
• 9:18
Speaker 6: We have trouble getting Americans to fill.
• 9:20
Speaker 7: And they are happy to do it, and they come
• 9:22
Speaker 7: in and they are just there for the season that
• 9:24
Speaker 7: they're needed. Some of this work is seasonal and it's
• 9:29
Speaker 7: been a really great asset, but it has been very,
• 9:32
Speaker 7: very frustrating for all along they've been they've capped at
• 9:37
  Speaker 7: at much.
• 9:38
Speaker 6: Lower levels than the requests that are made.
• 9:40
Speaker 7: These are people that are trying to bring bring up
• 9:42
Speaker 7: employees in legally and fairly. They pay quite a bit
• 9:45
Speaker 7: of money to do so, and they aren't allowed to
• 9:50
Speaker 7: do it the levels that are needed. And of course
• 9:52
Speaker 7: with the current administrations cracking down on immigration issues, that's
• 10:00
Speaker 7: of concern, even though that is not at all with
• 10:03
  Speaker 7: the H two B program.
• 10:04
Speaker 3: Right, yes, yeah, I'm very familiar with the program. Yeah,
• 10:07
Speaker 3: all right, let's talk about the event next week again,
• 10:09
Speaker 3: kind of recap at Force next Tuesday, Embassy Suite.
• 10:11
Speaker 7: Okay, So two tracks design and profit. We have our
• 10:15
Speaker 7: members annual meeting and breakfast. First at lunch, we will
• 10:19
Speaker 7: be recognizing our some of our scholarship winners. We gave
• 10:25
Speaker 7: really awarded thirty five thousand dollars in scholarships last year.
• 10:30
Speaker 7: So these are two students that are both juniors and
• 10:34
Speaker 7: seniors in like landscape architecture or horticulture. And then just
• 10:38
Speaker 7: last year we introduced a scholarship and memory of George
• 10:42
Speaker 7: Longenecker who was a longtime landscape architecture professor and horticulturalists
• 10:47
Speaker 7: at WU. And so this is a scholarship we're offering
• 10:50
Speaker 7: for full tuition reimbursement for a high school senior that's
• 10:54
Speaker 7: been accepted and is entering the landscape architecture program at WU.
• 10:59
Speaker 7: So it's a pretty sick a good amount of money,
• 11:02
Speaker 7: an investment that this is all part of the effort
• 11:04
Speaker 7: to help students and young people to realize the careers
• 11:08
Speaker 7: that are available in the industry.
• 11:10
Speaker 3: So where can people learn more if they're listening to
• 11:12
Speaker 3: this right now and they say, this is something I
• 11:13
Speaker 3: need to attend, I need to sign up for a
• 11:15
Speaker 3: couple of sessions. I want to learn more about the
• 11:17
Speaker 3: business aspect of where do they learn.
• 11:19
  Speaker 6: More at our website w v n l A dot org.
• 11:24
Speaker 3: All right, and uh, a social media presence as well.
• 11:27
Speaker 3: You get stuff out there on social media.
• 11:28
Speaker 7: We do, right, We're on Facebook, of course. And Dave,
• 11:30
Speaker 7: I would like to assomentor remiss. Our big project for
• 11:34
Speaker 7: last year was the publication of Landscape Plants for West Virginia.
• 11:38
Speaker 3: You brought me a copy of it. I get this autograph, sure,
• 11:41
  Speaker 3: and it's a splendid day. It's very I'm holding it
• 11:43
Speaker 3: up to the microphone. Now. The funny thing about this
• 11:46
Speaker 3: is is within a month or so the show will
• 11:48
Speaker 3: be on camera. Uh, and so I can actually I
• 11:51
Speaker 3: can point, I can point to it and say, look
• 11:54
Speaker 3: here it is. Well, we'll go and talk about that.
• 11:56
  Speaker 7: But so it's it's a it's a wonderful guid it's
• 11:59
Speaker 7: about a page just for color, kind of in a
• 12:02
Speaker 7: catalog format by plant category, perennials, annuals, grasses, trees, and shrubs,
• 12:08
Speaker 7: and these are all plants that will do well in
• 12:11
Speaker 7: West Virginia. So it's got their planning, their planning needs,
• 12:15
  Speaker 7: sunlight needs.
• 12:18
Speaker 6: All kinds of conditions that they will thrive in.
• 12:20
Speaker 7: And these are all plants that our landscapers will would
• 12:24
Speaker 7: use or a gardener at home would would be interested
• 12:27
Speaker 7: in and doing. It's so important to get the right
• 12:30
Speaker 7: plant in the right space. We want to be successful
• 12:33
Speaker 7: and this would be a very helpful tool. We sort
• 12:36
Speaker 7: of envisioned it as a guide for our members to
• 12:38
Speaker 7: be able to take out like landscapers out on a
• 12:40
Speaker 7: job and show show the client what they're talking about.
• 12:43
Speaker 7: But it's also going to be available in garden centers,
• 12:46
Speaker 7: our member garden centers throughout the state, so we'll be
• 12:49
Speaker 7: making those available in the spring with folks are certain
• 12:52
Speaker 7: to think more about this.
• 12:53
  Speaker 6: It's a great education tool.
• 12:55
Speaker 7: W u's horticulture program is using it now, so that
• 12:58
Speaker 7: speaks to the level of in it, I.
• 13:00
Speaker 3: Think absolutely all right to Julie Robinson, as executive director
• 13:04
Speaker 3: of the West Virginia Nursery and Landscaping Association. I appreciate
• 13:07
Speaker 3: you being here. Big event next Tuesday at Embassy Suites,

Speaker 3: some time on the show tomorrow talking to the folks

Speaker 3: from recovery point and Judge Mary Claire Acres will be
• 16:04
Speaker 3: with us tomorrow as she prepares to host the annual
• 16:07
Speaker 3: King of Heart's Wedding spectacular that actually started before she
• 16:12
Speaker 3: took office. She's kind of continued this tradition of doing
• 16:14
Speaker 3: basically marathon weddings on Valentine's Day. We'll talk to Judge
• 16:18
Speaker 3: Acres about that tomorrow. There's always your calls and text.
• 16:20
Speaker 3: Will be welcome to with us. Friday night at Capitol High.
• 16:23
Speaker 3: You've heard us talk about it now for several months.
• 16:25
Speaker 3: The Night to Shine Special Needs Problem will be held.
• 16:27
Speaker 3: Courtney Elswick is one of the organizers, and she joins
• 16:30
Speaker 3: us now. Courtney, good morning, Welcome to the show.
• 16:32
Speaker 4: Good morning, thank you for having me.
• 16:33
Speaker 3: It's almost here. I mean we had you on back
• 16:36
Speaker 3: around Thanksgiving. There's so sometime between Thanksgiving Christmas first talking
• 16:39
Speaker 3: about this. You've been on two or three times since then.
• 16:42
Speaker 3: A lot of planning has gone into it looks like
• 16:44
Speaker 3: the weather is going to be okay, could maybe see
• 16:46
Speaker 3: some rain. You and I were talking off the air.
• 16:48
Speaker 3: Hopefully Brian Hughes Spencer Adkins do something about that. We're
• 16:52
Speaker 3: hoping that it would be like maybe after the prom
• 16:55
Speaker 3: is over, but at least there's no snow to talk
• 16:56
Speaker 3: about frid Now at least we do have that going
• 16:58
Speaker 3: for us. But now it's now, I mean, all this
• 17:03
Speaker 3: work has gone into it. Now it's almost time to shine.
• 17:05
  Speaker 4: We're here. We're here.
• 17:07
Speaker 3: Tell from folks that haven't heard your previous interviews, talk
• 17:10
Speaker 3: about the whole idea of where this idea to do
• 17:12
Speaker 3: this Night the Shine came from.
• 17:13
Speaker 11: So the Tim Tebow Foundation came together. I believe it's
• 17:17
Speaker 11: been about back in twenty fourteen, so this will be
• 17:19
Speaker 11: the eleventh year. They wanted to bring together communities and
• 17:23
Speaker 11: those that are celebrated a little less than others and
• 17:25
Speaker 11: give them the opportunity to really shine as the king
• 17:29
Speaker 11: and queen that they are.
• 17:30
Speaker 4: So they came up with this idea.
• 17:32
Speaker 11: Local churches have come together to bring this out and
• 17:35
Speaker 11: so it's a full on prom experience, completely free event
• 17:39
Speaker 11: for anyone fourteen and over that's in the disability or
• 17:43
Speaker 11: special needs community to just come and have the night
• 17:46
  Speaker 11: of their life.
• 17:47
Speaker 3: And as we've been saying a Courtney since we had
• 17:49
Speaker 3: you on from day one, I mean, this event is
• 17:52
Speaker 3: happening at Capitol High School, but it's not just for
• 17:55
Speaker 3: high school students. It's for anybody as long as they're
• 17:57
Speaker 3: fourteen and up right.
• 17:58
Speaker 11: Absolutely, there's no there's no cut off on the age,
• 18:00
Speaker 11: just you have to be at least fourteen years old.
• 18:02
Speaker 3: And I just keep thinking about, maybe, you know, the
• 18:07
Speaker 3: stigma sometimes that surrounds these folks that it's a little
• 18:12
Speaker 3: bit more accepted. That's accepted may not be the right word,
• 18:15
Speaker 3: but then what it was years ago. So many of
• 18:18
Speaker 3: these folks that are going to be coming to this
• 18:20
Speaker 3: maybe didn't have the opportunity in the nineteen seventies or
• 18:24
Speaker 3: nineteen eighties to attend an event like this.
• 18:27
Speaker 11: There's one lady in particular that I can think of.
• 18:30
Speaker 11: She was born in forty nine. I believe this is
• 18:33
Speaker 11: her first prom. She's you know, on the special needs
• 18:37
Speaker 11: end of things. Her parents would not ever let her go.
• 18:39
Speaker 11: So she is so excited telling anybody she's finally going
• 18:41
Speaker 11: to problem, She's going to prom.
• 18:42
Speaker 4: And I mean she's in her seventies.
• 18:44
Speaker 3: That's that's good stuff, right, really excited. That is awesome
• 18:48
Speaker 3: right there? And again we're talking with the Courtney Elswig
• 18:50
Speaker 3: about the Night to Shine, which is happening Friday night
• 18:53
Speaker 3: at Capitol High School. Now are we in because again
• 18:56
Speaker 3: we're just a few. I hate to scare you, but
• 18:58
Speaker 3: we're almost hours away from this thing and half. Now
• 19:01
Speaker 3: where are we as far as the timeline goes. I mean,
• 19:03
Speaker 3: can people still sign up? But do we have enough?
• 19:05
Speaker 3: I mean, uh, it's kind of okay, you can still
• 19:08
Speaker 3: sign up. Okay, talk about that.
• 19:09
Speaker 11: So if you want to volunteer, we can still use
• 19:13
Speaker 11: all the all the volunteer help that we can set
• 19:15
Speaker 11: up tear Down. If nothing else, just come cheer these
• 19:18
Speaker 11: individuals on while we're walking them in, while they're walking
• 19:21
Speaker 11: the red carpet, be there for them, hold signs. It
• 19:24
Speaker 11: starts at five, so if you want to be there
• 19:26
Speaker 11: a little beforehand, we will set that up outside like
• 19:29
Speaker 11: out front of the Circle at Capital. If nothing else,
• 19:32
Speaker 11: just be there to support them for that again, set
• 19:35
Speaker 11: Up tear Down will be there most of the day Friday,
• 19:38
Speaker 11: potentially some Saturday, depending on what we can get done
• 19:41
Speaker 11: and how many volunteers I have. And then if you
• 19:44
Speaker 11: if you want to be helped, you know during the
• 19:46
Speaker 11: event parking, we'll need parking attendants things like that, people
• 19:50
Speaker 11: to kind of show individuals where to go.
• 19:52
Speaker 4: Then we can always use more guests as well.
• 19:54
Speaker 11: We want this to be such a huge event, such
• 19:58
Speaker 11: a great turnout. So yes, you can still register as
• 20:00
Speaker 11: a guest. You can still register as a volunteer.
• 20:02
Speaker 3: Would one will that cut off be for the red
• 20:04
Speaker 3: I mean, when do you have to because I know
• 20:05
Speaker 3: I planned advance in the past. You know you had
• 20:07
Speaker 3: to have a head count for food and things that
• 20:09
  Speaker 3: are past that.
• 20:11
Speaker 11: Okay, at this point we have made arrangements. We will
• 20:15
Speaker 11: get it taken care of. We do not want anyone
• 20:17
Speaker 11: to not be able to come.
• 20:19
  Speaker 12: Anybody.
• 20:19
Speaker 4: We're not going to turn anyone.
• 20:20
Speaker 11: If people show up that day, I'm going to use
• 20:23
Speaker 11: you somehow some way to volunteer, or if you show up,
• 20:26
Speaker 11: I may not let you be a buddy, but I
• 20:29
Speaker 11: can I can use all the.
• 20:31
Speaker 3: Human Explain the buddy thing, because you talked about that
• 20:35
Speaker 3: when you were on the show before, about how you're pairing,
• 20:38
Speaker 3: pairing these folks up with what you called buddies. Explain
• 20:40
Speaker 3: how that how that works.
• 20:41
Speaker 11: So every guest that we have, so every individual with
• 20:43
Speaker 11: the disability or special needs is paired with someone that
• 20:46
Speaker 11: is not in that group, so a non special needs
• 20:51
Speaker 11: individual and that is just their person for the night.
• 20:53
Speaker 4: If they want to go do karaoke.
• 20:55
Speaker 11: Then that's your buddy's job to get you there and
• 20:57
Speaker 11: make sure that you, you know, participate.
• 20:59
Speaker 4: If you want to do the selfie booth, if you
• 21:01
  Speaker 4: want to.
• 21:01
Speaker 11: Go for a limo ride, if you just want to
• 21:03
Speaker 11: sit and eat all night, that's your buddy's job to
• 21:05
Speaker 11: be there and make sure that that happens.
• 21:07
Speaker 3: How do I sign up for that? Okay? And what when?
• 21:11
Speaker 3: When they're there? You said you're going to try to
• 21:12
Speaker 3: make this as much like a prom as possible. I
• 21:15
Speaker 3: now you mentioned karaoke. What else is going on inside
• 21:17
  Speaker 3: that building?
• 21:18
Speaker 11: So we have we have face painting, we have a
• 21:20
Speaker 11: shoe shine station, we have hair and makeup like touch
• 21:23
Speaker 11: up stations, a selfie booth, staged prom photos, karayo' heel
• 21:29
Speaker 11: like we mentioned, limo rides the main dance floor with
• 21:33
Speaker 11: the DJ. We have crowns and trs for everyone, jewelry
• 21:37
Speaker 11: for you know, ladies that may want to add a
• 21:38
Speaker 11: little something extra, ties and suit jackets for the men,
• 21:41
Speaker 11: just a little bit of everything.
• 21:43
Speaker 3: It's awesome. Corney Else Week is here from the Night
• 21:45
Speaker 3: to Shine, which is Friday night at Capitol High School.
• 21:47
Speaker 3: Dave Aland showing five idyl Ive brought to you part
• 21:49
Speaker 3: by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. If
• 21:52
Speaker 3: you're injured, visit for the people dot com. Let's talk
• 21:54
Speaker 3: about the buy in from the community on this and
• 21:57
Speaker 3: the volunteers and the corporate sponsors and just the average
• 22:00
Speaker 3: guys and gals that have come out for this thing.
• 22:02
Speaker 3: Talk about talk about the buy in that you've seen
• 22:04
Speaker 3: so far, and try not to choke up.
• 22:06
Speaker 11: I know, gets more and more real the closer we
• 22:11
Speaker 11: get it sets in a little bit more. The amount
• 22:13
Speaker 11: of community support has been absolutely amazing, which we were
• 22:16
Speaker 11: really hopeful for, and it they have.
• 22:18
Speaker 4: People have really showed up.
• 22:20
Speaker 3: I mean, it's what West Virginians do, but that's what
• 22:22
  Speaker 3: we do.
• 22:22
Speaker 11: Absolutely we have guests registering from you know, hours away
• 22:28
Speaker 11: because they don't have one close to where they are.
• 22:31
Speaker 11: But we also have volunteers that are registering from hours
• 22:34
Speaker 11: away because they are just so they just want to
• 22:38
Speaker 11: be part of this so much that they're willing to
• 22:40
Speaker 11: make that commute. They're willing to come and help in
• 22:42
Speaker 11: whatever way possible. And it's just been great.
• 22:45
Speaker 3: That's good stuff, rightier And so again it's all happening
• 22:48
Speaker 3: Friday night and doors are going to open five ish.
• 22:51
Speaker 3: What time will the whole thing be over? Do you
• 22:53
  Speaker 3: think so?
• 22:54
Speaker 11: The actual events from five to eight and again just
• 22:56
Speaker 11: kind of depends on what I have mad what time
• 22:59
Speaker 11: we get out of said come Friday night, you are
• 23:01
Speaker 11: probably going to be able to just mop the floor
• 23:03
  Speaker 11: with me.
• 23:04
Speaker 3: Yeah. Oh yeah, well you've been hard. You and your
• 23:05
Speaker 3: other volunteers have been hard at this thing. So, as
• 23:07
Speaker 3: I said, I mean I first heard about it sometime
• 23:10
Speaker 3: well before Thanksgiving. So here's what here's our call to
• 23:14
Speaker 3: action in the advertising business. We called it the CTA.
• 23:16
Speaker 3: You know, the call to action. Here's a call to
• 23:17
Speaker 3: action for you that are listening right now out there, folks.
• 23:20
Speaker 3: If you are a business, if you uh, whether the
• 23:24
Speaker 3: business employees of two hundred people or or employees two people, uh,
• 23:29
Speaker 3: if you have a service that you would be willing
• 23:31
  Speaker 3: to donate. I mean, I know you've got a lot
• 23:34
Speaker 3: of these things taken care of from Flowers, but you
• 23:35
Speaker 3: can always use more and things like that. You need
• 23:39
Speaker 3: to get involved. If you are the parent or grandparent
• 23:42
Speaker 3: of a of a student, can your buddies be students?
• 23:48
Speaker 3: They can be? Can they? Yes?
• 23:49
Speaker 11: Okay, So we have guests that are fourteen. So we've
• 23:51
Speaker 11: also paired them with you know.
• 23:53
Speaker 3: Okay, all right, so so so parents, grandparents, if your
• 23:56
Speaker 3: kid is in public school, they are are required by
• 24:01
Speaker 3: by by by regulations, by codes whatever to do community service.
• 24:06
Speaker 3: This would be a great community service thing. Give up
• 24:09
Speaker 3: a Friday night, tell them to put down the phones
• 24:10
Speaker 3: for a while, and it's time to get out there.
• 24:13
Speaker 3: And uh and and celebrate these these individuals. Yes, uh
• 24:17
Speaker 3: So what's the best way for people to contact you?
• 24:19
  Speaker 4: So?
• 24:20
Speaker 11: They can contact me through the church Facebook pages one way.
• 24:23
Speaker 11: I'm an admin on there. So a Southeast Church of
• 24:25
Speaker 11: the Nazarene were located in Keanall City. They can also
• 24:29
Speaker 11: email me It's se Nazarene in t s for Night
• 24:34
Speaker 11: to Shane at gmail dot com.
• 24:36
Speaker 3: And I know you've got a very active social media too.
• 24:39
  Speaker 3: I mean, you know you've done what a what a
• 24:41
Speaker 3: wonderful job that you have done with your social media.
• 24:43
Speaker 3: Because I I was looking at preparing for the show
• 24:46
Speaker 3: a little bit, seeing whatever I could add to the
• 24:47
Speaker 3: other interviews we've done in the past about this and
• 24:49
Speaker 3: uh and are you the one doing the social media?
• 24:52
Speaker 3: You know, the one pretty much doing everything, aren't you?
• 24:53
Speaker 3: But what's the team of volunteers.
• 24:55
Speaker 11: Yes, absolutely, I do have quite the team with me.
• 24:58
Speaker 11: And yes, you can find the the Facebook page for
• 25:01
Speaker 11: the Night to Shine event.
• 25:02
Speaker 4: I believe it's just Night to Shine.
• 25:03
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 25:03
Speaker 11: And the Charleston you'll see the pictures and all the information.
• 25:07
Speaker 4: It's Charleston at Capitol High School.
• 25:09
Speaker 3: And we do want to make sure people realize because
• 25:11
Speaker 3: we had questions about this before, it is happening at
• 25:13
Speaker 3: Capitol High School. But it's not just for Capital High
• 25:15
Speaker 3: School students. It's for anybody, not just for students, I
• 25:18
Speaker 3: mean anybody fourteen and up. There's a big buy in,
• 25:21
Speaker 3: you know, from the Tim Tebow Foundation, also from your church,
• 25:24
Speaker 3: the Southeast Church of the Nazarene in Kanas City. Not
• 25:28
Speaker 3: a church event per se. This is just something that
• 25:30
Speaker 3: you folks wanted to do to do something good for
• 25:33
Speaker 3: the community. All right, I'm going to give you this
• 25:36
Speaker 3: opportunity now to thank anybody because the event's not happened yet,
• 25:40
Speaker 3: but you're going to be, you know, mia for the
• 25:43
Speaker 3: next forty eight hours you try to get ready for
• 25:45
Speaker 3: this event. Then you're probably going to be sleeping for
• 25:46
Speaker 3: two days. Afterwards, you and your volunteers just go ahead
• 25:50
Speaker 3: and I'll give you the final thirty to forty seconds.
• 25:53
Speaker 3: Just thank people. Just do throw it out there. It's
• 25:55
Speaker 3: your time, Courtney, go ahead.
• 25:56
  Speaker 4: Oh goodness.
• 25:58
Speaker 11: I just want to thank everybody that thank you all
• 26:00
Speaker 11: for having me on here. Thank all of the listeners.
• 26:03
Speaker 11: Think that people that have shown up thus far. Think
• 26:06
Speaker 11: the parents and caretakers that are letting us, you know,
• 26:09
Speaker 11: have your child or your loved one for the evening
• 26:12
Speaker 11: and just trusting us with that. And you know, I
• 26:14
Speaker 11: do think my pastor for trusting me with this part Hotal,
• 26:17
Speaker 11: the Pastor is health eas Church, and the Nazarene for
• 26:20
Speaker 11: coming to me with this, and just just all the
• 26:23
Speaker 11: support all of Charleston, all of West Virginia.
• 26:25
Speaker 4: Just thank you so much.
• 26:27
Speaker 3: It's what we do. It's what we do. Looking forward
• 26:29
Speaker 3: to seeing the pictures too, because I'm sure you'll have
• 26:31
Speaker 3: those up on the Facebook page afterwards. And again to
• 26:33
Speaker 3: all the businesses here in the area and there's way
• 26:36
Speaker 3: too many to name, and the sponsors that have that
• 26:40
Speaker 3: have given their time. I mean, when we did the
• 26:42
Speaker 3: first interviews, I could tell you people were calling the
• 26:44
Speaker 3: front desk, people were texting me here saying how do
• 26:47
  Speaker 3: I get involved? How do I do this. I don't
• 26:49
Speaker 3: have a lot to give or a lot of people
• 26:51
Speaker 3: in my company, but we want to help. We want
• 26:53
Speaker 3: to help with the food, we want to help with
• 26:55
Speaker 3: the music. We want to do the lights or whatever.
• 26:57
Speaker 3: And a big shout out to our folks across the

Speaker 3: Good luck with everything. Friday night, we'll have to have

Speaker 3: Bee and he joins us now, mister Caban, Good morning,
• 31:03
Speaker 3: Welcome to the show. Good morning, Dave. How you doing, sir?
• 31:05
Speaker 3: Going fine? Thank you? Thank you for being here. All
• 31:07
Speaker 3: well with you all doing doing great?
• 31:09
Speaker 12: Actually? Yeah, how about you.
• 31:10
Speaker 3: I'm doing I'm still trying to get over this cold.
• 31:12
Speaker 3: Other than that, I'm doing okay.
• 31:13
Speaker 12: Yeah. This is my first time in the New Digs.
• 31:15
Speaker 3: It's great you ever been there before?
• 31:16
Speaker 12: Not to the New Day.
• 31:17
Speaker 5: I've seen people's videos go down here and I'm like,
• 31:18
Speaker 5: why is it Dave invited me back?
• 31:20
Speaker 12: What did I do?
• 31:21
Speaker 3: You want? The whole Leicester just in the top ten. No,
• 31:23
Speaker 3: I'm kidding. I'm kidding. Well, the next time that you
• 31:25
Speaker 3: come in, maybe maybe we might be in the new
• 31:29
Speaker 3: old digs, which is going to be in the room
• 31:30
Speaker 3: where we were before, but you'll be on camera.
• 31:33
Speaker 12: That's yeah, we talked about that. I saw the rev.
• 31:35
Speaker 3: Yeah, there they've been. They've been working a whole lot
• 31:39
Speaker 3: down there on that t I was down there yesterday,
• 31:41
Speaker 3: had a little meeting with the folks yesterday. It's gonna
• 31:43
Speaker 3: be gonna be pretty nice. You step up your game, Cabiner.
• 31:46
Speaker 3: I guess a little bit more hair jail or something
• 31:48
Speaker 3: in there. Man, you don't want to see that. No, No,
• 31:50
Speaker 3: I get it, all right. So this is a search
• 31:55
Speaker 3: for Kanaw County school superintendent has gone on. We have
• 31:57
Speaker 3: a story posted about it on the website. I think
• 31:59
Speaker 3: you did an interview the news department as well. It's
• 32:02
Speaker 3: almost the final decision time for a new superintendent here
• 32:04
Speaker 3: in Kannak County schools. So would I know, you can't
• 32:08
Speaker 3: talk about the folks, and I get that, but a
• 32:10
Speaker 3: decision tomorrow next day, what do you think?
• 32:12
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, you know, as you know, this process started,
• 32:15
Speaker 5: you know, doctor Williams who's served our county so well
• 32:17
Speaker 5: for the past over forty years and several capacities, last
• 32:20
Speaker 5: five as superintendent. You know, he announced that he was
• 32:23
Speaker 5: retiring back in December, so we immediately started the process.
• 32:26
Speaker 5: We wanted to make sure that this was a very
• 32:27
Speaker 5: thorough and transparent process, and so that started, like I said,
• 32:30
Speaker 5: in December, and then of course we opened up the position.
• 32:34
Speaker 5: We advertised it through the month of January until about
• 32:36
Speaker 5: the twenty fourth, and then we you know, we got
• 32:38
Speaker 5: we got five applicants and we narrowed that down to two,
• 32:40
Speaker 5: and yesterday we held two really incredible interviews and you know,
• 32:45
Speaker 5: I got to tell you, like I said yesterday to
• 32:47
Speaker 5: during my interview with Metro News, it's a hard decision.
• 32:51
Speaker 5: I mean, we have two really, really good qualified candidates,
• 32:54
Speaker 5: and you know, I'm just really really thankful for the
• 32:58
Speaker 5: folks who've been a part of this process. My fellow
• 33:00
Speaker 5: board members have been great throughout the process. You Know,
• 33:03
Speaker 5: one thing we did which I was really happy to see,
• 33:05
Speaker 5: is we we conducted a survey. We put a survey
• 33:08
Speaker 5: out to all the Connell County Schools employees and we
• 33:10
Speaker 5: got a really high return rate on that survey. We
• 33:11
Speaker 5: asked them I think five key questions what they want
• 33:14
Speaker 5: to see in the next superintendent. We used the answers
• 33:16
Speaker 5: from that survey to form and shape our questions during
• 33:18
  Speaker 5: our interview process.
• 33:20
Speaker 3: So it was great. So what when when you advertise
• 33:24
Speaker 3: this or you put it out there that you had
• 33:25
Speaker 3: an opening, What what were some of the things that
• 33:27
Speaker 3: you were looking for.
• 33:28
Speaker 12: Well, you know, I think any any school, any county school.
• 33:32
Speaker 5: System, wants to see a leader, right, just a genuine leader,
• 33:37
Speaker 5: someone who I would say, you know, doesn't lead behind
• 33:40
Speaker 5: the desks, right, lead leads out in the in the
• 33:42
Speaker 5: community and in the schools every day in some capacity.
• 33:45
Speaker 5: And I think that was really important for us to
• 33:47
Speaker 5: see somebody who you know, shows those qualities right up front.
• 33:51
Speaker 5: And you know, beyond that, obviously, someone who's had experience
• 33:55
Speaker 5: in the classroom. You know, that was something that was
• 33:57
Speaker 5: on the survey that was really important to the to
• 33:59
Speaker 5: the the employees of Paw County School Somebody who has
• 34:02
Speaker 5: direct experience in the classroom, somebody who is really focused
• 34:06
Speaker 5: on morale employee and a teacher and even student morale.
• 34:10
Speaker 12: And I think the folks that we interviewed yesterday both
• 34:13
  Speaker 12: both showed.
• 34:14
Speaker 3: That started Rick Cavn again, the President of the Canaw
• 34:16
Speaker 3: County Board of Education at Dave Allen Show and five

• 34:31
Speaker 3: tenure of the retiring school superintendent Tom Walls talking.
• 34:33
Speaker 5: About sixteen you know, doctor Williams was still the deputy superintendent.
• 34:36
Speaker 5: Of course doctor Durham was still the superintendent my first
• 34:39
Speaker 5: term and then my second term is when when we
• 34:41
Speaker 5: appointed doctor Williams as the new superintendent. And you know,
• 34:45
Speaker 5: you can talk to any any person that is an
• 34:47
Speaker 5: employee in Kannall County Schools and they will all say
• 34:50
Speaker 5: the same thing that he is. You know, he's not
• 34:52
Speaker 5: only a genuine leader, but just a really just a
• 34:54
Speaker 5: really good person at heart. What I've witnessed over the
• 34:57
Speaker 5: past eight years as a board member, and certainly doctor
• 35:01
Speaker 5: Williams and members of his his team, they care about
• 35:05
Speaker 5: the kids first, right that their most important when they
• 35:08
Speaker 5: get up every day and they.
• 35:09
  Speaker 8: Go to work.
• 35:09
Speaker 5: You can tell that they are focused on every student
• 35:12
Speaker 5: in this county. And you know, we are the most
• 35:15
Speaker 5: diverse county in the state of West Virginia where rural, urban, suburban,
• 35:20
Speaker 5: you know, we cover the gamut and and.
• 35:21
  Speaker 3: It's a big old county. It's a big old as
• 35:23
Speaker 3: I as I point out to people all the time,
• 35:25
Speaker 3: especially my elected officials, I talk about if you're if
• 35:28
  Speaker 3: you're serving Kanawa County, whether you're a commissioner or a
• 35:31
Speaker 3: board member or whatever, there's there can be a lot
• 35:34
Speaker 3: of difference between you know, downtown Charleston and you know
• 35:39
Speaker 3: someplace Campbell's creekt Tornado or I mean, it's.
• 35:42
  Speaker 5: A it's a big it's a big area, that's right,
• 35:44
Speaker 5: And and you can tell that that doctor Williams is
• 35:46
Speaker 5: his team. They recognize that every single day that that
• 35:48
Speaker 5: one students needs may be completely different than another student's needs,
• 35:51
Speaker 5: one you know, schools needs, one teacher's needs, one principal's
• 35:54
Speaker 5: needs maybe different than that totally different than the other.
• 35:58
Speaker 5: And they've really done a great job focusing on that.
• 36:00
Speaker 5: And you can tell there's just a lot of really
• 36:02
Speaker 5: deep respect for his leadership and his leadership team there
• 36:06
Speaker 5: at Central Office, and so you know, we of course
• 36:09
Speaker 5: looked to him through this process as well to advise
• 36:12
Speaker 5: us as we went through it as superintendent, because you know,
• 36:15
Speaker 5: we know it's not about the.
• 36:19
Speaker 12: Person itself, but the position.
• 36:20
Speaker 5: We wanted to make sure, you know, he's done such
• 36:22
Speaker 5: an incredible job in his position that we wanted to
• 36:24
Speaker 5: make sure to go to him for advice as we
• 36:26
  Speaker 5: went through.
• 36:26
Speaker 12: This process as well.
• 36:27
Speaker 5: So I can't say enough good words about you know,
• 36:30
Speaker 5: his not only his five years of superintendent, but his
• 36:32
Speaker 5: over forty years of you being in the Kennell County
• 36:36
  Speaker 5: School System.
• 36:37
Speaker 3: The thing I have learned rick about dealing with education
• 36:40
Speaker 3: folks in my time in the media is that for
• 36:44
Speaker 3: people that do it and do it for a long
• 36:46
Speaker 3: period of time, whether it's somebody who serves as a superintendent,
• 36:50
  Speaker 3: whether it's somebody that's a board member, whether it's somebody
• 36:52
Speaker 3: that drives a bus or a teacher in the classroom,
• 36:56
Speaker 3: if you're going to do it for any amount of time,
• 36:57
Speaker 3: you really got to love it. You've got the love
• 37:00
  Speaker 3: the process.
• 37:01
Speaker 5: You could you got you can tell that these folks
• 37:03
Speaker 5: get They get up every day excited to go to
• 37:05
Speaker 5: their jobs, right, And of course that to your point,
• 37:07
Speaker 5: if they've been on it that long, let's hope that
• 37:09
Speaker 5: they are exactly to get up every day and go
• 37:11
  Speaker 5: to their jobs.
• 37:12
Speaker 12: But you can definitely tell that.
• 37:13
Speaker 5: I mean, you know, and I could go one forever
• 37:14
Speaker 5: about that, but but I definitely agree that you're when
• 37:18
Speaker 5: you are. It's not only a job at that point, right,
• 37:21
  Speaker 5: It's it's a it's a devotion, it's a it's a passion,
• 37:24
Speaker 5: and you can definitely tell that. And we're just really
• 37:25
Speaker 5: lucky here in Kanall County. You know, folks, Folks reach
• 37:28
Speaker 5: out to us all the time with their issues, their problems.
• 37:30
Speaker 5: That's going to happen, right Teachers, parents, students, They're going
• 37:33
Speaker 5: to have their issues.
• 37:34
Speaker 12: That's going to happen in any.
• 37:36
Speaker 5: School system, whether it's public, private, whatever. But there, I
• 37:40
Speaker 5: can tell you there is a whole lot more good
• 37:42
Speaker 5: that outweighs the bad as far as you know, the
• 37:44
Speaker 5: every day not only every day operations, but just you know,
• 37:47
Speaker 5: the how the kids are learning in the classrooms, the
• 37:51
Speaker 5: programming we offer as a school system. And that's all
• 37:54
Speaker 5: because of the leadership we have and it's I continue
• 37:57
Speaker 5: to be really proud to be a part of this board.
• 37:59
Speaker 3: Talking to Rick cap are getting the President of the

• 38:20
Speaker 3: I N E at Meeksrealtygroup dot com. Rick, you know
• 38:25
Speaker 3: a lot of things. This is going to be the
• 38:27
Speaker 3: understatement of year. Things have changed a whole lot in
• 38:29
Speaker 3: the world of public education. Even in the short time
• 38:31
Speaker 3: you mentioned you were elected in twenty sixteen for the
• 38:33
Speaker 3: first time. In the short time that you've been on
• 38:35
Speaker 3: the board, the world of public education has has changed.
• 38:40
Speaker 3: COVID was a part of that, but there were some
• 38:42
Speaker 3: changes that were happening before COVID and certainly after COVID.
• 38:45
Speaker 3: And I would think that whoever that is is named
• 38:49
Speaker 3: as the new Kadon County School Superintendent as well as
• 38:52
Speaker 3: the board members and the staff, you're going to have
• 38:54
Speaker 3: to be kind of be aware of that and realize that, well,
• 38:56
Speaker 3: the way that the school public schools were run in
• 38:59
Speaker 3: night teen seventy six is not the way that you
• 39:02
Speaker 3: run it in twenty twenty five.
• 39:04
Speaker 5: That's right, you know, And it's it's funny you mentioned that,
• 39:07
Speaker 5: because you know, one thing that we recognize through this
• 39:09
Speaker 5: process is that it's really important that we have a
• 39:12
Speaker 5: superintendent that that understands the value of making those really
• 39:16
Speaker 5: strong connections. You know, not only with every single principle
• 39:20
Speaker 5: in the county and you know internally, but there's also
• 39:22
Speaker 5: an external role that a superintendent plays, right There's it's
• 39:25
Speaker 5: really important that the superintendent as well as the board
• 39:27
Speaker 5: members are making really healthy and strong connections with you know,
• 39:30
Speaker 5: civic leaders, elected officials, community organizations, you know, local nonprofits
• 39:35
Speaker 5: around the area that maybe serve students.
• 39:38
Speaker 12: You know that that.
• 39:39
Speaker 5: List is pretty vast, and I think it's important that
• 39:41
Speaker 5: the that the the superintendent of Kennall County Schools has
• 39:44
Speaker 5: that personality to be able to form those really strong
• 39:47
Speaker 5: relationships because to your point, things have really changed, certainly
• 39:51
Speaker 5: at the state level, they've changed. You and I've talked
• 39:53
Speaker 5: at length in prior interviews about, you know, the issues
• 39:57
Speaker 5: that we face in public school with, you know, seeing
• 40:00
Speaker 5: our funds be diverted to other means of education due
• 40:04
Speaker 5: to certain bills that have passed over the past few
• 40:07
Speaker 5: legislative sessions, and frankly, those have done nothing but hurt
• 40:09
Speaker 5: public schools. And so it's really important that especially our
• 40:13
Speaker 5: local elected officials are working hand in hand with our superintendent,
• 40:16
Speaker 5: with our board members to do what's best for every
• 40:18
Speaker 5: single student and employee of the system before.
• 40:21
Speaker 3: We let you go there. You know, a couple of
• 40:23
Speaker 3: days the menfol came out about the National test stores
• 40:26
Speaker 3: test scores. I should say we'd spend a little time.
• 40:28
Speaker 3: I know Wilson and Meadows did a little bit on
• 40:31
Speaker 3: talk line as well. They had to stay to school
• 40:32
Speaker 3: superintendent Michelle Blatt on the show I think it was
• 40:34
Speaker 3: on Monday's show. Any comment from you on as an
• 40:38
Speaker 3: overall general on some of the test scores, because in
• 40:41
Speaker 3: certain ways they weren't as I mean, they're never where
• 40:45
Speaker 3: we want them to be no matter what, you know.
• 40:48
Speaker 3: But but there were some troubling things, but also some
• 40:50
Speaker 3: promising things that came out.
• 40:52
Speaker 12: Yeah, you know, when it comes to test scores.
• 40:54
  Speaker 5: Me personally, and again, I'm a you know, I'm a
• 40:57
Speaker 5: board member, right, I don't have an education background. Right,
• 40:59
  Speaker 5: I'm a board member that's a direct link from the
• 41:01
Speaker 5: community to the school system, right where we board members
• 41:04
Speaker 5: are not all in the education field.
• 41:06
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 41:07
Speaker 5: But what I'll say about test scores is that I've
• 41:09
Speaker 5: seen many students leave.
• 41:12
Speaker 12: Our system graduate from high school.
• 41:15
Speaker 5: They may not have done the best in school, they
• 41:16
Speaker 5: may not have had the perfect grades, they might have
• 41:18
Speaker 5: not they may not have had the best test scores,
• 41:20
Speaker 5: but they immediately went into a trade. We're extremely talented
• 41:24
Speaker 5: in that trade, started their own business, and now are
• 41:26
  Speaker 5: very successful themselves.
• 41:27
Speaker 12: Right. That college track maybe just wasn't right for them.
• 41:30
Speaker 5: And you know that not everyone's test scores are going
• 41:33
Speaker 5: to be great. We understand that, you know, I think
• 41:36
Speaker 5: it is important that we continue to focus on them
• 41:38
Speaker 5: because it is somewhat of a reflection of, you know,
• 41:41
Speaker 5: the the quality of education. And I think we've seen
• 41:44
Speaker 5: those go up over time. But again, you know, every
• 41:48
Speaker 5: student has a different path when they leave. And I'm
• 41:51
Speaker 5: very I'm very passionate about that. You know, I went
• 41:53
Speaker 5: to a four year university, but not everyone is going
• 41:55
Speaker 5: to do that, and like I said, there's gonna be
• 41:57
Speaker 5: a lot of folks who leave go straight into their
• 41:59
Speaker 5: work force, learn a trade, and they're going to do
• 42:01
Speaker 5: really well. They're going to be successful and find their
• 42:03
Speaker 5: own success in life. And so the best we can
• 42:05
Speaker 5: do as a system is making sure we're providing that
• 42:07
Speaker 5: world class education. And once again I'm more than confident
• 42:10
Speaker 5: with the leadership team we have and whoever we end
• 42:14
Speaker 5: up choosing tomorrow, I believe that we'll continue to be
• 42:17
Speaker 5: able to offer that.
• 42:18
Speaker 3: All right, Rick, I know it's been a difficult process,
• 42:21
Speaker 3: as you said, to try to get a new superintend
• 42:23
Speaker 3: It's going to be hard to replace because you've had
• 42:24
Speaker 3: a run of a couple of good ones there with
• 42:26
Speaker 3: doctor Williams and the doctor Dury and of course before that.
• 42:28
Speaker 3: So hats off to you and the board on the search.

Speaker 3: I got some texts to get to. I was just
• 45:42
Speaker 3: looking at the at the headlines, and of course this
• 45:45
Speaker 3: was announced yesterday from the National News that President Trump
• 45:49
Speaker 3: is going to be at the super Bowl. I'm becoming
• 45:51
Speaker 3: the first sitting president ever to attend the Super Bowl.
• 45:55
Speaker 3: Is there enough camera space between the Donald and Taita
• 46:00
Speaker 3: Taylor Swift? Will there be enough cameras to get all
• 46:03
Speaker 3: that in? I don't know. Maybe they'll come out together,
• 46:07
Speaker 3: you know, with the Super Bowl halftime show. But go
• 46:09
Speaker 3: ahead and get ready. I'll tell you the one thing
• 46:10
Speaker 3: that's going to come out of the Super Bowl. And
• 46:12
Speaker 3: everybody's asked me what I thought about it, you know,
• 46:15
Speaker 3: Cowboys fan, I couldn't care less so about it. To
• 46:17
Speaker 3: be honest with you. People that want Kansas City to lose,
• 46:20
Speaker 3: I say, hey, you know what, go beat him. Philadelphia's
• 46:23
Speaker 3: playing really well right now. Sa Kwan Barkley probably the
• 46:27
Speaker 3: best running back that's come down in the Pike in
• 46:30
Speaker 3: a long long time. We'll see what happens. But regardless,
• 46:32
Speaker 3: people are going to complain about the halftime show, you
• 46:34
Speaker 3: know that. And they're just going to complain about the
• 46:36
Speaker 3: halftime show. Speaking of the super Bowl on Friday, I
• 46:39
Speaker 3: don't like to turn it into the Sports show, but
• 46:41
Speaker 3: my good buddy Jim Workman from Wally and Whippy Sports
• 46:43
Speaker 3: Digest is going to be on the show on Friday,
• 46:45
Speaker 3: and he and I are going to talk about a
• 46:46
Speaker 3: few things sports, including the release of the WVU football
• 46:49
Speaker 3: schedule yesterday, and also we'll talk about the super Bowl
• 46:52
Speaker 3: that's coming up on Friday. Show. Let me get to
• 46:54
Speaker 3: some text here. Tex says, interesting how open and transparent
• 46:58
Speaker 3: the new superintendent search can on County Schools has been
• 47:01
Speaker 3: We are being played by the school board, is my bet.
• 47:04
Speaker 3: I don't know what that's based on, but okay, Texas,
• 47:07
Speaker 3: I disagree. I believe the board's first thought in the morning,
• 47:11
Speaker 3: that's how to save money. That's why they're closing all
• 47:14
Speaker 3: of these schools. Closing schools is not in the best
• 47:17
Speaker 3: interest of children. It's all about finances. I think that
• 47:20
Speaker 3: what President of the Board Cavender said there, though, is
• 47:23
Speaker 3: that there has been a regardless and this is not
• 47:26
Speaker 3: an opinion, this is a fact. There's a lot less
• 47:28
Speaker 3: money coming in. And I'm not anti school choice by
• 47:32
Speaker 3: any stretch of the imagination. I think it depends on
• 47:35
Speaker 3: the kid, I think, and again I don't have kids,
• 47:37
Speaker 3: but I think that some you know, you have one
• 47:39
Speaker 3: child A who may thrive in a public school system
• 47:41
Speaker 3: and child BE does not. And and there are more
• 47:45
Speaker 3: choices now that parents have. You know, enrollment is declining,
• 47:47
Speaker 3: not only because of declining population, but people are choosing
• 47:51
Speaker 3: other alternatives to to to to school up their kids.
• 47:56
Speaker 3: So you know it, you know, to use the overused
• 48:01
Speaker 3: expression is what it is. Tex says, this is kind
• 48:06
Speaker 3: of random, but it's okay. Last five minutes of the show,
• 48:10
Speaker 3: Dave Musk and Trump are nothing but crooks and criminals
• 48:13
Speaker 3: that are assessing people's personal records and finances. Let's see theirs,
• 48:18
Speaker 3: says a texture. I wish Republicans says the texture would
• 48:24
Speaker 3: drop their pair and just say they don't like minorities
• 48:27
Speaker 3: instead of DEI that's a texture. But Dave Island showing
• 48:31
Speaker 3: five ed nine Browns departed by Pinnacle Consultants. Their services
• 48:34

• 48:37
Speaker 3: and minimizing as bust of exposure, perfect for commercial property
• 48:41
Speaker 3: owners managers. Visit Pinnacle court dot net because what you
• 48:44
Speaker 3: don't know can hurt you. The governor yesterday announcing that
• 48:49
Speaker 3: he has appointed Charleston attorney Ann Sharnock to the vacant
• 48:52
Speaker 3: seat in District seventeen. Now that became open after Eric Nelson,
• 48:57
Speaker 3: who was just elected to the supposted NOVA, opted to
• 49:01
Speaker 3: take a job in the Morrissey administration as the new
• 49:04
Speaker 3: state Revenue Secretary. So now those as we headed to
• 49:07
Speaker 3: the session next week, those holes have been filled. As
• 49:11
Speaker 3: the eighth district was just named a couple of days ago,
• 49:14
Speaker 3: and I had Kevin Bartlett on the show. Who's the
• 49:17
Speaker 3: new delegate out of the eighth on Monday Show? And
• 49:20
Speaker 3: now we have in Sharnock, who's been around political circles
• 49:23
Speaker 3: for some time. She will take over the seat formerly
• 49:26
Speaker 3: occupied by Eric Nelson in District seventeen. And I will
• 49:31
Speaker 3: work on getting in Sharonock on the show sometime before
• 49:33
Speaker 3: the session. Always like to give an opportunity for new delegates,
• 49:36
Speaker 3: new House members, new legislators should say, to come in
• 49:39
Speaker 3: and to talk with us about things that they are
• 49:41
Speaker 3: looking forward to. So we'll work on having her on
• 49:44
Speaker 3: the show here in a couple of a couple of days,
• 49:47
Speaker 3: maybe one day next week. Let me see, I got
• 49:50
Speaker 3: a lot of texts I didn't get to Texas. So
• 49:55
Speaker 3: those who start college next year and for years to
• 49:57
Speaker 3: come will demand that their student loans be forgiven. Than what.
• 50:02
Speaker 3: Once you go down the rabbit hole, it's almost impossible
• 50:05
Speaker 3: to claw your way out, says a texture texter this
• 50:10
Speaker 3: was from yesterday, said you do shrug your shoulders to
• 50:13
Speaker 3: Trump's authoritarian actions. To paraphrase, you say, he just operates
• 50:16
Speaker 3: by taking obviously illegal or reckless actions to distract from
• 50:19
Speaker 3: something else or as a pretext for other actions. I
• 50:23
Speaker 3: don't I think sometimes. I had somebody bring this up
• 50:26
Speaker 3: to me yesterday about people that think that I, as
• 50:29
Speaker 3: a host and my personal opinion that I somehow protect
• 50:33
Speaker 3: Donald Trump. I think I've made my feelings very well known,
• 50:38
Speaker 3: much to the chagrin of many people of my former party,
• 50:44
Speaker 3: the Republican Party. I've made my feelings well known on
• 50:49
Speaker 3: Donald Trump. I voted for him in twenty sixteen. I
• 50:52
Speaker 3: did not, actually I did vote for me in twenty twenty.
• 50:55
Speaker 3: Did not vote for me in twenty twenty four thank
• 50:58
Speaker 3: he's danger to the country. However, there are a lot
• 51:02
Speaker 3: of people that disagree. And on this show I like
• 51:04
Speaker 3: to provide opinions of all kinds, and I do provide
• 51:08
Speaker 3: mine from time to time. But to say that I
• 51:10
Speaker 3: have been a protector or an apologist for President Trump, no,
• 51:14
Speaker 3: I'm sorry. I cannot go along with that. Text says
• 51:22
Speaker 3: just what this legislative body needs another lawyer, at least
• 51:24
Speaker 3: a coal miner for Senate presidents. It's a texture under
• 51:29
Speaker 3: the Big Dome. There's all kinds. There's a lot of attorneys,
• 51:31
Speaker 3: there's a lot of business people. There are at least
• 51:34
Speaker 3: two coal miners that I know of. Now what they
• 51:36
Speaker 3: don't have is a radio talk show host, and I
• 51:39
Speaker 3: just happen to have one that walked in the studio here, TJ. Meadows.
• 51:43
Speaker 3: Now you know man, Well how about yourself? I'm all
• 51:46
Speaker 3: doing well. Just I you know, me and Trump apologist,
• 51:48
Speaker 3: That's what I am. Oh yeah, well, we all have
• 51:49
Speaker 3: our rules to play, right. What's on the show this morning? Man?
• 51:52
Speaker 20: We start out with Judge Tim Sweeney, Third Circuit Court.
• 51:56
Speaker 20: He has that order out this morning that says the
• 51:58
Speaker 20: new DOH secretary and others in the administration will have
• 52:02
Speaker 20: to report to him to basically be CPS. Fill Ins
• 52:06
Speaker 20: said he's tired of not having enough CPS workers trying
• 52:10
Speaker 20: to get some attention, so we'll talk to him. Tiffany
• 52:12
Speaker 20: Hobin with the Director of Education Partner. She is the
• 52:15
Speaker 20: director of Education Partnerships and Strategy for the Cardinal Institute
• 52:18
