Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Another Reserve Bank rate cut. It was largely as expected
- 0:03Speaker 1: twenty five basis points. The rest of the press conference
- 0:06Speaker 1: and much of the monetary policy statement that followed, was
- 0:09Speaker 1: focused on the unpredictable global environment. We can't say this
- 0:14Speaker 1: because we don't know what Trump will do. We can't
- 0:17Speaker 1: be certain about that because Trump and the trade war, etc.
- 0:21Speaker 1: But at what point does unpredictability become predictable and therefore
- 0:27Speaker 1: not the great threat that we make it out to be. Yes,
- 0:30Speaker 1: Trump went nuts on Liberation Day, the sky fallon. He
- 0:33Speaker 1: then calls a ceasefire in May. The markets have recouped
- 0:36Speaker 1: all of their losses since then. The endices are patchy,
- 0:39Speaker 1: but largely back to where they were. Trade talks are ongoing.
- 0:43Speaker 1: The IMF yesterday upgraded Britain's growth. US consumer confidence actually
- 0:48Speaker 1: increased last month for the first time in five China's
- 0:51Speaker 1: industrial growth for April was positive yesterday. Our agricultural experts
- 0:56Speaker 1: are doing the business abroad. Trump rant and raves on Twitter.
- 1:02Speaker 1: He unannounces stuff as quickly as he announces stuff. He's impulsive,
- 1:07Speaker 1: he's emotionally reactive, vindictive, He's a weather vein the political
- 1:12Speaker 1: equivalent of Katie Perry. Because he's hot, then he's cold.
- 1:16Speaker 1: He's in then he's out, he's up, then he's down.
- 1:21Speaker 1: He's wrong when it's right, he's black when it's white.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You get where I'm going with this. The point is
- 1:28Speaker 1: we know this about him. We know he's unpredictable, and
- 1:31Speaker 1: that makes his unpredictability predictable. I reckon we aren't taking
- 1:37Speaker 1: his threats as seriously as we were two months ago.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Not the US consumer, not Chinese industry, not US, and
- 1:45Speaker 1: you know who else should stop paying him so much
- 1:48Speaker 1: damn attention the Reserve Bank. For more from Early edition
