- 0:00New Year, same you.
- 0:02The real reason nothing changes.
- 0:06You can change your goals, you can change your habits, you can change your environment,
- 0:11and you still wake up a year from now, or maybe this is what you're experiencing now from last year,
- 0:16feeling exactly the same inside.
- 0:19And if you've ever started a new year motivated only to feel frustrated, disconnected,
- 0:25or quietly disappointed a few months later, this is for you.
- 0:30Because the issue isn't effort and it's not intelligence.
- 0:34The real issue is that nothing has shifted at the level that actually runs your life.
- 0:41So the same patterns keep recreating themselves on the outside.
- 0:46In this video, I want to show you or share with you
- 0:50why your life keeps repeating itself even when you genuinely want to change.
- 0:55why awareness, insights, and motivation are not enough on their own, and what actually needs to
- 1:02shift inside you for a new year to become a different year, if that's what you're after.
- 1:07This is about inner work, the kind that changes how you show up in your body,
- 1:12in your relationships, and in the way you live your life. So I've been doing this work since
- 1:172007. It's nearly two decades, 18 coming to 19 years now. And I've worked with countless number
- 1:24all different walks of life, especially people who are high-performing, capable people who have
- 1:30already done a lot of work on themselves. They've read all the books, they've attended the workshops,
- 1:35they've reflected deeply, and I've seen the same thing again and again. People don't stay stuck
- 1:42because they don't know enough. They stay stuck because what they know hasn't been integrated.
- 1:49That's the work we're here to do. So if what I'm about to describe feels familiar and you don't
- 1:54keep repeating the same year internally. I run a free seven-day Elevates Inner Work Challenge. It's
- 2:00not motivation content. We do daily practices, yoga, meditation, and inner work. It's designed
- 2:05to help your body, your nervous system, and your emotions, and your awareness actually shift. You
- 2:11can join for free for the first seven days, and there'll be links somewhere below. Now, let's get
- 2:16to the work that we're here to do. First core teaching is why nothing changes when only the
- 2:22surface changes. Here's a truth that most people don't want to look at. Most people try to change
- 2:28their life without changing the system that's running their life. They set new goals, they
- 2:34optimize their habits, they redesign the schedules. The same emotional patterns, the same nervous
- 2:40system responses, the same internal story are still in charge. The year might look different on paper
- 2:48but it feels the same in the body. William James, one of the founders of modern psychology said,
- 2:56a chain of habits is generally too small to be felt until it is too strong to be broken.
- 3:03And that's not philosophy, that's pattern recognition. The pattern recognition is at
- 3:08the heart of our inner work, as you may know. The second teaching is why insights alone don't free
- 3:14you. This part is especially important if you are intelligent and self-aware, which you are because
- 3:19you're here listening to this, and you understand your triggers, you can explain your past, why you
- 3:25react the way you do, and yet you still react. That's because the insights live in the minds,
- 3:32but the patterns live in the nervous system and in the body. And this is why people can spend years
- 3:36working on themselves and still feel hijacked in moments that matter. As the philosopher Alfred
- 3:44Zipsky, to put it this way, the map is not the territory. Understanding the map of yourself is
- 3:51not the same as walking the territory of your life differently. Inner work isn't about forcing or
- 3:58enforcing control, because we all know where that leads. It's about building awareness, safety,
- 4:04presence, so there's actually space before reaction. The third teaching is discipline,
- 4:11alignment and the truth underneath. A lot of people think discipline is the missing piece
- 4:17and yes the real change does require discipline, small consistent steps over time as you may know
- 4:24but here's the part most people miss. Discipline collapses when it's built on service of a self
- 4:30you're trying to rewrite or heal or to work on to change as in you're aware of that self and you
- 4:39work on that self and that self becomes the foundation of all your habits and the change
- 4:43that you're trying to build. So therefore you keep recreating that. So if your goals are rooted in
- 4:49proving something, avoiding discomfort, meeting expectations, becoming something you think you
- 4:54should be, your system will resist. Not because discipline is bad, but because you're aligning
- 5:01effort to a version of yourself that isn't true anymore. Or you're trying to change or work to
- 5:06change. This work is about discovering a deeper truth of who you are and the potential that's
- 5:14already there. Or as you might have heard me say, this infinite potential within, that is the you.
- 5:20When discipline serves that truth, as in that is the foundation of what it's built on,
- 5:26it stops feeling like you're violating yourself, as in generally beating yourself down to make
- 5:32something happen and call it discipline. And it starts to feel much more like a place of integrity.
- 5:39Fourth teaching is what inner work actually changes. Inner work doesn't make you better,
- 5:45it makes you truer. It changes how quickly you notice yourself reacting, how long you stay stuck
- 5:52in emotional traps, how safe it feels to slow down, how much you trust yourself. It doesn't
- 5:59remove the discomfort, but it stops discomfort from running your life. The philosopher Baruch
- 6:06Spinoza said, the highest activity a human being can attain is learning for understanding, because
- 6:14to understand is to be free. And I'll add one more from that. I would say understanding alone is not
- 6:21enough. It's an acceptance. It's a relaxing into the truth of who you discover yourself to be,
- 6:29go through the journey of discovering yourself, the dimensions of yourself. So inner work moves
- 6:34you out of thinking about change and into living differently. The fifth teaching is why this year
- 6:42can actually be different. Here's a shift most people miss. Change doesn't come from pushing
- 6:48harder into the future. It comes from meeting yourself honestly in the present. If your inner
- 6:54a world doesn't change. Your outer world has no choice but to repeat. But if you're willing to
- 7:01slow down enough to listen, this year can become the beginning of a very different chapter.
- 7:08Rilke wrote, lift the question now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it,
- 7:15live along some distant day into the answer. That's the invitation. So in closing, you don't
- 7:24yourself, or new version of yourself.
- 7:27You need a truer relationship with who you truly are or already are, or this
- 7:33infinite potential that you are.
- 7:35And from that, everything else can actually change.
