Sometimes we keep fighting because we’re afraid of what will happen if we admit we’ve lost.

Ben-Hadad could have kept fighting, but he heard that the kings of Israel showed mercy and kindness (חֶסֶד, ḥesed) to their enemies.

Sometimes people will stop fighting when they know they don’t have to be afraid of us if they lose.
