- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome to another episode of the
- 0:03Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. In this episode we're getting right back to
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Jess Daly transcript from his trip to Congress. Question.
- 0:10Speaker 1: I'd like to introduce as Minority Exhibit T an internal
- 0:13Speaker 1: due diligence report with an embedded article on Mr. Epstein
- 0:17Speaker 1: titled The Sex Trafficking Model Scout dated August 4th, 2010.
- 0:22Speaker 1: The Bates number is EFTA 02811303. Question. This article describes
- 0:31Speaker 1: the modeling agency MC2, which it notes that Mr. Epstein funded,
- 0:35Speaker 1: and allegations that Mr. Epstein and Jean-Luc Brunel, quote, deliberately
- 0:39Speaker 1: engaged in a pattern of racketeering and involved luring minor
- 0:43Speaker 1: children through MC2, mostly girls, under the age of 17,
- 0:47Speaker 1: to engage in sexual play for money. The article further
- 0:51Speaker 1: states that, quote, civil complaints allege that young girls from
- 0:54Speaker 1: South America, Europe, and the former Soviet Republic, few of
- 0:58Speaker 1: whom spoke English, were recruited for Mr. Epstein's sexual pleasure.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Do you recall having internal discussions about this article or
- 1:06Speaker 1: the allegations it describes? Answer, no. Question, do you recall
- 1:10Speaker 1: having internal discussions about the modeling agency MC2? Answer, no. Question,
- 1:15Speaker 1: in a deposition, in a class action against J.P. Morgan,
- 1:18Speaker 1: you were asked whether you remembered hearing in a 2010
- 1:22Speaker 1: about civil complaints that had been brought against Mr. Epstein.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You testified that you did remember hearing that those lawsuits,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and that you discussed them with others at J.P. Morgan.
- 1:33Speaker 1: So would you like to correct your answer? Answer, but
- 1:36Speaker 1: you were asking whether I was aware of this article
- 1:38Speaker 1: about MC Squared, right? Question, I asked if you recalled
- 1:41Speaker 1: having any internal discussion about this article or the allegations
- 1:45Speaker 1: that it describes. Answer, or the allegations, yeah. I may
- 1:49Speaker 1: have had conversations about the allegations. Question, in your testimony
- 1:53Speaker 1: is that, class action again, you said you remembered hearing
- 1:56Speaker 1: about these lawsuits. and you discussed them with others at J.P. Morgan.
- 2:01Speaker 1: You also testified that, quote, it was terrible news, and
- 2:04Speaker 1: it was shocking. Obviously, he lied to me. That's what
- 2:07Speaker 1: I recall. When you testified that Mr. Epstein lied to you,
- 2:11Speaker 1: what exactly did you believe he lied to you about? Answer,
- 2:15Speaker 1: in 2006, he lied that he solicited underage prostitutes. Question,
- 2:20Speaker 1: if you knew in 2010 that Mr. Epstein had lied
- 2:23Speaker 1: to you about his victim's ages, and you thought that
- 2:26Speaker 1: it was a terrible and shocking... As you said in
- 2:28Speaker 1: your testimony, why did you continue to push for JP
- 2:31Speaker 1: Morgan to keep Mr. Epstein as a client? Answer, I
- 2:35Speaker 1: don't believe I pushed JP Morgan to keep Epstein as
- 2:38Speaker 1: a client. And again, I was running a completely different
- 2:41Speaker 1: part of the bank, was not involved in his accounts
- 2:44Speaker 1: or his business at all with the bank. Question to
- 2:47Speaker 1: be clear, you are saying that you did not believe
- 2:51Speaker 1: that you pushed JP Morgan to keep Jeffrey Epstein as
- 2:53Speaker 1: a client? Answer, that's correct. Question, I would like to
- 2:57Speaker 1: introduce as Minority Exhibit U, an email chain between J.P.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Morgan employees, including William Langford, Philip DeLuca, Nina Nichols, Mary
- 3:06Speaker 1: Ann Ryan, and Arthur Middlemiss. From January 7th, 2011. Question.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I believe the email chain starts on the last page.
- 3:18Speaker 1: In the first email of the chain, Mr. Ryan sends Mr.
- 3:20Speaker 1: DeLuca summary of a rapid response meeting on Mr. Epstein.
- 3:24Speaker 1: In the third paragraph, she says, quote, Jeffrey is a
- 3:27Speaker 1: friend of Jess S., and Catherine feels that PB, along
- 3:31Speaker 1: with William, should meet with them to explain the HD
- 3:34Speaker 1: project and explain the bank's recognition of the project and
- 3:38Speaker 1: whether Epstein, it further exposed, could have potential serious impact. First,
- 3:42Speaker 1: we understand that Catherine refers to Miss Keating, that William
- 3:46Speaker 1: refers to William Langford, JP Morgan's director of anti-money laundering,
- 3:51Speaker 1: that PB refers to private bank, and that HT project
- 3:55Speaker 1: refers to human trafficking project. So, according to Ms. Ryan, Ms.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Keating believed that she, along with Mr. Langford, needed to
- 4:03Speaker 1: meet with you to explain J.P. Morgan's human trafficking project
- 4:07Speaker 1: and the impact of Mr. Epstein's crimes, if further exposed,
- 4:10Speaker 1: could have on the project, correct? Answer, yes. Question. Would
- 4:15Speaker 1: you agree that this statement makes clear that at this
- 4:18Speaker 1: point in early 2011, J.P. Morgan already suspected that Mr.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Epstein was engaging in sex trafficking? Answer, yes. Question. Question.
- 4:27Speaker 1: In the next paragraph, Ms. Ryan says, quote, Epstein was
- 4:30Speaker 1: released in July from house arrest and the Palm Beach
- 4:33Speaker 1: carried two articles saying DOJ may be investigating for child
- 4:37Speaker 1: sex trafficking via a modeling agency he's part owner in.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I think Catherine believes that after the briefing on HT
- 4:44Speaker 1: that Jess would need to point blank ask Jeffrey the
- 4:47Speaker 1: status of any criminal investigations. Did you ask Mr. Epstein
- 4:52Speaker 1: about the status of any federal investigation into him? Answer,
- 4:56Speaker 1: I don't recall. Question, you have no memory of asking Mr.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Epstein in early 2011 about investigations into him, specifically criminal
- 5:04Speaker 1: investigations for sex trafficking? Answer, obviously I was aware of it.
- 5:09Speaker 1: He was being investigated. I don't recall if I had
- 5:12Speaker 1: specific conversations with him. Question, Ms. Ryan continues, quote, Catherine
- 5:17Speaker 1: made sure that we knew that no one on today's
- 5:19Speaker 1: call was in favor of having retained him as a client.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Seems it's all due to Jess's personal relationship, note, He
- 5:26Speaker 1: has about $ 212 million in the bank. Would you agree
- 5:29Speaker 1: that at this point, JP Morgan's retention of Mr. Epstein
- 5:33Speaker 1: as a client was due to your personal relationship with him? Answer, no,
- 5:37Speaker 1: I would not. Question, what was it due to? Answer,
- 5:40Speaker 1: I think the bank had full authority to close his
- 5:42Speaker 1: accounts and close his business. It wasn't up to me
- 5:45Speaker 1: to make that decision. I was not involved in that decision.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I wasn't in the rapid response team. I wasn't involved
- 5:52Speaker 1: in any of the process. I knew Epstein, but I
- 5:54Speaker 1: think the bank and the people... from Catherine Keating on down,
- 5:58Speaker 1: had the authority to close the account and chose not to.
- 6:01Speaker 1: But I think they significantly restricted its activities to the bank.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Question you mentioned throughout this email, though multiple times by
- 6:09Speaker 1: multiple people, clearly you are central to the entire decision. Sullivan, question, answer. Staley, no. Question,
- 6:18Speaker 1: how can you say that you weren't involved in it?
- 6:20Speaker 1: And if you weren't involved in it, why are so
- 6:22Speaker 1: many people talking about how they have to talk to
- 6:25Speaker 1: you About Mr. Epstein. Answer. In the meetings discussed. Discussing
- 6:30Speaker 1: Epstein's accounts. Was I in the meetings with all the
- 6:33Speaker 1: people that were listed? Question were you? Answer no. Question.
- 6:38Speaker 1: In the last paragraph of the email. Ms. Ryan says quote.
- 6:41Speaker 1: The one new concerning thing. Is the one article about
- 6:44Speaker 1: the DOJ investigation. Is saying they brought underage girls to
- 6:48Speaker 1: the US. Via a modeling agency MC squared. That's owned
- 6:52Speaker 1: by a guy. Named Brunel. Turns out. The banker said
- 6:56Speaker 1: today we extended Epstein a loan in relation to the
- 6:58Speaker 1: modeling agency. We believe she means MC squared. Would you
- 7:03Speaker 1: agree that at this point in early 2011, JP Morgan
- 7:06Speaker 1: had reason to believe that the bank had directly funded Mr.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Epstein's sex trafficking operation? Answer again. I was not part
- 7:13Speaker 1: of this. I was not part of the area of
- 7:16Speaker 1: the bank any longer. So, you know, you know, I
- 7:18Speaker 1: know to ask to tell me or tell you what
- 7:22Speaker 1: the bank was thinking. It's more important you ask the bank. Question.
- 7:26Speaker 1: At the bottom of the email, Ms. Ryan says, quote,
- 7:28Speaker 1: bottom line, we need W to meet with Jess to
- 7:31Speaker 1: explain HD, and then Jess could decide the next step.
- 7:35Speaker 1: We understand that this means that Mr. Langford needs to
- 7:38Speaker 1: meet with you and explain human trafficking, and then you
- 7:42Speaker 1: can decide the next steps. As you've pointed out multiple times,
- 7:46Speaker 1: you were the CEO of the investment banking division at
- 7:49Speaker 1: this time, correct? Answer. Yeah, not the private bank. Question.
- 7:53Speaker 1: So you did not have authority over asset management or
- 7:56Speaker 1: the private bank, correct? Answer, that is correct. Question, so
- 8:01Speaker 1: then why did J.P. Morgan's director of anti-money laundering, or
- 8:04Speaker 1: anyone else for that matter, need to talk to you
- 8:07Speaker 1: about Mr. Epstein? Answer, I think you should ask him. Question,
- 8:11Speaker 1: why would all these people from different divisions at J.P.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Morgan repeatedly talk about how they need to go to
- 8:17Speaker 1: you to talk about Mr. Epstein, to explain human trafficking,
- 8:20Speaker 1: if you don't have a significant role in the decision
- 8:23Speaker 1: to to keep Epstein as a client? Answer, and I
- 8:27Speaker 1: think you need to ask them, but I don't have
- 8:29Speaker 1: a significant role in the decision to keep Epstein as
- 8:32Speaker 1: a client. It's a completely different, completely different part of
- 8:36Speaker 1: the bank. Question, I'm sorry? Answer, it was a completely
- 8:40Speaker 1: different part of the bank than what I was responsible for. Question,
- 8:43Speaker 1: I understand that. In the next email on the chain, Mr.
- 8:47Speaker 1: DeLuca towards Ms. Ryan's email to Ms. Nichols, who is
- 8:50Speaker 1: new on the team. He provides Ms. Nichols with some
- 8:54Speaker 1: background information, including that Mr. Epstein, quote, is alleged to
- 8:58Speaker 1: be involved in the human trafficking of young girls, and
- 9:01Speaker 1: that Mr. Epstein, quote, is also an alleged personal associate
- 9:05Speaker 1: of the CEO of investment bank Jess Daly. Do you
- 9:09Speaker 1: agree that Mr. Epstein was a, quote, personal associate of yours?
- 9:13Speaker 1: Answer again. As I've said, we had a professional relationship.
- 9:17Speaker 1: We obviously knew each other. I would not call it
- 9:19Speaker 1: a personal friendship. Question, I asked if you would agree
- 9:24Speaker 1: that Mr. Epstein was a, quote, personal associate of yours. Answer,
- 9:27Speaker 1: what does associate mean? Question, however you understand that word.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Answer again, I think it was a relationship based on
- 9:35Speaker 1: the business relationship that we had. I didn't view him
- 9:37Speaker 1: as a personal friend. Question, Mr. Langford then asked the
- 9:41Speaker 1: individual on the chain to pull prior emails and relevant
- 9:45Speaker 1: press reports, quote, so we can get all the facts
- 9:48Speaker 1: ASAP in advance of any meeting with Jess. The team
- 9:51Speaker 1: then exchanges emails about compiling information. Did Mr. Langford and
- 9:56Speaker 1: the management for the private bank meet with you at
- 9:58Speaker 1: this point? Answer, I don't recall. Question, you have no
- 10:02Speaker 1: recollection if they met with you and shared all the
- 10:05Speaker 1: facts relevant to Mr. Epstein's sex trafficking operation that they're
- 10:08Speaker 1: discussing compiling in advance of meeting with you? Answer, I don't. Question,
- 10:13Speaker 1: and finally, the last email on the chain, Ms. Ryan
- 10:17Speaker 1: explains that the renewed interest in Mr. Epstein was due
- 10:19Speaker 1: to alerts for cash activity and that in talking to
- 10:23Speaker 1: JPMorgan employees, she learned that, quote, PB was not so
- 10:27Speaker 1: thrilled with retaining him. It was all due to Jess. Answer,
- 10:31Speaker 1: that's not fair. Question, so you dispute her characterization? Answer, yes.
- 10:38Speaker 1: All right, folks, we're going to wrap up right here.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And in the next episode, we're going to pick up
- 10:41Speaker 1: with question I'd like to introduce as Minority Exhibit V.
- 10:46Speaker 1: All the information that goes with this episode can be
- 10:48Speaker 1: found in the description box.
