- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network. Hi,
- 0:03Speaker 1: this is Bill Gates and I listened to tech talk Radio.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of tech talk Radio. We are
- 0:11Speaker 1: the show that talks about computers, technology, and the Internet.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Of course, on this Memorial Day weekend, a lot of
- 0:19Speaker 1: people doing stuff. Of course, Sean is heading up to
- 0:21Speaker 1: the I believe he calls it the Upper Peninsula where
- 0:27Speaker 1: he vacations. He's taking the camera with him. He's got
- 0:30Speaker 1: it all tricked out and does some really cool stuff
- 0:33Speaker 1: with technology. So that's how he's enjoying this Memorial Day
- 0:37Speaker 1: weekend as well. But I figured, you know what, let's
- 0:40Speaker 1: go ahead and push forward and let's put together a
- 0:43Speaker 1: show for you that maybe we can cover some of
- 0:45Speaker 1: the stuff that you've been thinking about. And when it
- 0:47Speaker 1: comes to technology, you wanted to get some answers with
- 0:50Speaker 1: as well. And when we talk about answers, we talk
- 0:53Speaker 1: about those listener questions and we love those. Now, anytime
- 0:56Speaker 1: you want to drop us a line, you can do
- 0:58Speaker 1: that on our Facebook page Facebook dot com Forward slash
- 1:03Speaker 1: tech Talkers. That's t E C H T A l
- 1:06Speaker 1: K E R S. If you're not on the Facebook,
- 1:09Speaker 1: but you have an email address. You can email us
- 1:12Speaker 1: tech Guys T E C H, g U Y S
- 1:15Speaker 1: at tech talk radio dot com. You know, so follow
- 1:19Speaker 1: us on the worldwide web at tech talk radio dot com.
- 1:21Speaker 1: We had a form set up years ago that you
- 1:24Speaker 1: could submit your questions there and then I'm not sure
- 1:27Speaker 1: changes et cetera happened. Now hopefully we'll get that re implemented,
- 1:32Speaker 1: so you could just do that right there on our
- 1:34Speaker 1: website at tech talk radio dot com. Also, I just
- 1:37Speaker 1: want to remind you too, if you want to see
- 1:39Speaker 1: some cool videos, see videos from the shows that we do,
- 1:43Speaker 1: you could find those on our web YouTube page, which
- 1:47Speaker 1: is tech talk Radio. All right, So speaking to questions,
- 1:51Speaker 1: we have a question in from Cecilia. Cecilia has a
- 1:56Speaker 1: mom that is a little older and does communicate with
- 2:00Speaker 1: an iPhone. The only problem is Cecilia's mom ended up
- 2:05Speaker 1: typing the wrong code on her iPhone. That's happened to
- 2:08Speaker 1: me before. And mine was crazy because mine was in
- 2:11Speaker 1: my pocket and it kept you know, I didn't have
- 2:16Speaker 1: it the I didn't have it to go to sleep,
- 2:18Speaker 1: so it was on. So and that could be bad
- 2:20Speaker 1: because it could actually phone, you know, accidentally phone they
- 2:23Speaker 1: call it butt dialing. It could phone somebody, but it
- 2:26Speaker 1: kept trying to log in with the wrong password, and
- 2:29Speaker 1: next thing you knew, I was locked out. And that's
- 2:32Speaker 1: what happens with your your iPhones. If you, you know,
- 2:35Speaker 1: enter the wrong password after so many times, it will lock.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And sometimes it'll say locked for twenty four hours, locked
- 2:43Speaker 1: for forty eight, locked for twenty eight weeks either way.
- 2:48Speaker 1: So and this could be a lifeline for a lot
- 2:51Speaker 1: of people. And unfortunately if this happens. What are the options. Well,
- 2:58Speaker 1: one thing is you can usually re enable your device,
- 3:03Speaker 1: if it's an iPhone or an iPad, and we're talking
- 3:05Speaker 1: about the Apple platform here. You can re enable the
- 3:09Speaker 1: device Cecilia by logging into the iCloud account on the computer.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Now that's if there is a computer, and that is
- 3:21Speaker 1: one way to do it. The problem is, and Cecilia's
- 3:25Speaker 1: a full email tells us that her mom doesn't remember
- 3:29Speaker 1: her user name. Now this might be a little investigating
- 3:34Speaker 1: on your part. You may have to go into your like again.
- 3:39Speaker 1: You can check her computer if she has one, to
- 3:42Speaker 1: see if she's ever sent out an email, if she's
- 3:44Speaker 1: logged into her iCloud. If you type in you know
- 3:48Speaker 1: iCloud dot com. Does it come up and autopropagate the
- 3:52Speaker 1: user name. Even if it doesn't do the past ord,
- 3:55Speaker 1: at least you have the username. That can be a benefit.
- 3:58Speaker 1: But or if you've ever emailed you know Mom, sometimes
- 4:03Speaker 1: better just pick up the phone a call. But if
- 4:05Speaker 1: you've ever emailed Mom, it might be in there as well.
- 4:08Speaker 1: But if there is no go on that one one
- 4:13Speaker 1: of the other options you have at this point, if
- 4:16Speaker 1: it's completely locked out, and I will say this one
- 4:20Speaker 1: that shouldn't go first, but you can reset the phone. Now.
- 4:24Speaker 1: The problem with resetting the phone is if your mom
- 4:27Speaker 1: has taken a lot of photos, Cecilia, your mom has notes,
- 4:32Speaker 1: your mom likes to keep all her texts. If she
- 4:35Speaker 1: does text, that can be a problem because then that
- 4:39Speaker 1: can wipe that all away. And that's why I always
- 4:44Speaker 1: recommend you know backups. You know, get your your parents,
- 4:48Speaker 1: your kids, whoever, yourself, if you've got an eye device,
- 4:52Speaker 1: even an Android device too, to make backups because you
- 4:56Speaker 1: never know when something like this happened. I've heard stories
- 4:59Speaker 1: of people not only being locked out of their devices,
- 5:01Speaker 1: but their devices being lost or stolen, and then you
- 5:06Speaker 1: know they lose access to everything. So that's one way.
- 5:09Speaker 1: The next step, and you can't expect it to work
- 5:14Speaker 1: right away. This could take actually a little bit of time.
- 5:18Speaker 1: If you have the proof of purchase, if you have documentation,
- 5:24Speaker 1: and if your mom could go with you, that's great.
- 5:26Speaker 1: In this case, Cecilia said that her mom was a
- 5:30Speaker 1: hospital bound. She was in the hospital, so she but
- 5:35Speaker 1: you wanted her to have her smartphone. That one thing
- 5:38Speaker 1: you could do is you could visit in an Apple store. Now,
- 5:41Speaker 1: for those of us in the Tucson area, if you're
- 5:44Speaker 1: listening outside of the Tucson area, you may want to
- 5:47Speaker 1: check to find out where your Apple store is. They
- 5:50Speaker 1: can be helpful. You could go in there and you
- 5:53Speaker 1: could explain the situation. If you have your mom's ID
- 5:56Speaker 1: again proof of purchase, you may be able to appeal
- 5:59Speaker 1: to one of the geniuses there and they may be
- 6:01Speaker 1: able to help you get that phone reset. But again,
- 6:05Speaker 1: there is a possibility you could lose all that. Now,
- 6:08Speaker 1: there is some really good discussions on the Apple website.
- 6:12Speaker 1: You may want to take a look and jump online
- 6:14Speaker 1: to support dot apple dot com. Again, you would need
- 6:18Speaker 1: an internet connection, a cable that could charge the smartphone
- 6:21Speaker 1: if it hasn't been charged. And again it can be
- 6:25Speaker 1: MAC or PC. But that's that's one way to get
- 6:30Speaker 1: her done. Now. Some people have said in the past, well,
- 6:34Speaker 1: what about face ID if you're with your mom and
- 6:37Speaker 1: it has a face ID set up, you could try
- 6:39Speaker 1: that too. That could be another one where you know,
- 6:41Speaker 1: you just look at the phone, it recognizes and it
- 6:45Speaker 1: can reset that way, so you know, I'm sorry. So, yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 1: that's a terrible That's honestly a really bad thing to
- 6:52Speaker 1: happen when it gets locked out and can be super frustrating.
- 6:56Speaker 1: But hopefully that will help you. I'd love to know
- 6:59Speaker 1: you know how that worked out for you. In our
- 7:02Speaker 1: TV tech segment that we do on News thirteen, you
- 7:04Speaker 1: could see those generally every Monday. We do those on
- 7:08Speaker 1: Chemist by Fox eleven, right after the eight o'clock hour.
- 7:12Speaker 1: We've been doing those since I want to say, we
- 7:15Speaker 1: started in two thousand and four. We started at KWBA.
- 7:21Speaker 1: We did a couple of segments there and it was
- 7:23Speaker 1: a lot of fun. Apple sent us. I remember the
- 7:27Speaker 1: first one we did. They sent us the big, old,
- 7:30Speaker 1: huge iMac, which was great. We got a chance to
- 7:32Speaker 1: talk about those. But again we're talking way back, you know,
- 7:36Speaker 1: two thousand and three, two thousand and four, and then
- 7:40Speaker 1: over time we ended up the producer who put that
- 7:43Speaker 1: segment together. Stephanie ended up moving over to KOLD and
- 7:47Speaker 1: she brought me on to KLD and we would do
- 7:50Speaker 1: a segment. We called it Tech Tuesday, So every Tuesday
- 7:55Speaker 1: we would go in and we'd chose something and back
- 7:57Speaker 1: then in the mid two thousand towards Slate two thousands,
- 8:02Speaker 1: it was so easy to get product because, I mean,
- 8:07Speaker 1: the Internet was growing, influencers were not really a thing yet,
- 8:14Speaker 1: so me as a little guy doing a you know,
- 8:17Speaker 1: doing a TV segment in southern Arizona, I could just
- 8:20Speaker 1: jump on the phone and call it representative at Apple.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I could call it representative at Verizon. I could call
- 8:26Speaker 1: it representative at Microsoft. I could call it representative at
- 8:30Speaker 1: Adobe and just say, hey, I'm putting together the segment.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I want to feature the product. And they would just
- 8:36Speaker 1: do all kinds of great stuff and they would send
- 8:38Speaker 1: over the product and we get a chance to look
- 8:40Speaker 1: at it for a couple of weeks and send it back.
- 8:42Speaker 1: But it was always easy to get stuff in our hands.
- 8:45Speaker 1: And boy, that has changed TV kind of. It's still
- 8:50Speaker 1: a we love our segment and TV segments have been great,
- 8:54Speaker 1: but the influencers kind of took over that because here
- 8:59Speaker 1: I am in a TV market, and yes, we do
- 9:02Speaker 1: put our segments online and people do watch them, uh,
- 9:06Speaker 1: but the TV, the TV market takes a back door
- 9:10Speaker 1: to influencers. They reach a wide audience with TikTok and
- 9:16Speaker 1: Facebook and Instagram reels and Snap. Well Snap, I don't
- 9:20Speaker 1: know if Snap really is used by influencers, but but
- 9:23Speaker 1: I mean, you really, really really YouTube shorts I have
- 9:28Speaker 1: done a great job in building their audiences. And there's
- 9:31Speaker 1: some really great uh YouTuber YouTubers out there that do
- 9:37Speaker 1: great job with information about tech. Uh, and they've they've
- 9:41Speaker 1: done a great job with it. But it used to
- 9:43Speaker 1: be used to be super easy. It's not as much
- 9:45Speaker 1: this this you know anymore, but it was cool. We
- 9:49Speaker 1: were able to put together a segment this past Monday
- 9:53Speaker 1: and we talked about a growing trend in the tech
- 9:56Speaker 1: world called software as a service. Now you may remember
- 10:02Speaker 1: in years past you would go and you would buy
- 10:07Speaker 1: a software for doing a task. We'll take for example,
- 10:10Speaker 1: I'll just take one big example was into It into It,
- 10:14Speaker 1: which their tech support I believe was located here in Tucson.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I don't know if it still is, but say QuickBooks.
- 10:22Speaker 1: For many that were starting a small business, quick Books
- 10:26Speaker 1: was one of the easiest to use, one of the
- 10:30Speaker 1: most full featured. You would go out and you would
- 10:32Speaker 1: buy the software, and I want to say, we could
- 10:36Speaker 1: run anywhere from one hundred and fifty three four hundred dollars,
- 10:40Speaker 1: all right, but you could use it for as long
- 10:43Speaker 1: as you had it. Now, over time, a company like
- 10:47Speaker 1: QuickBooks or into it would introduce new features like if
- 10:52Speaker 1: you want to do job costing, you want to just
- 10:55Speaker 1: share it whether the other users maybe in your office
- 10:58Speaker 1: that would put together statement or quotes or invoices, and
- 11:02Speaker 1: you can have more users that would be using it.
- 11:04Speaker 1: And of course Microsoft are into it, changed its business
- 11:08Speaker 1: model to make that available. A lot of people loved it.
- 11:12Speaker 1: I mean I loved it. I was a quick Books
- 11:15Speaker 1: user from the very beginning, and software as a service
- 11:21Speaker 1: came along. And what happened is, you know, and it's
- 11:25Speaker 1: only taken me recently to realize that, Okay, it makes sense.
- 11:30Speaker 1: And I know that's probably taken off some people who
- 11:33Speaker 1: have bought software and they get upset because maybe they're
- 11:38Speaker 1: not able to use that software anymore. And I'll get
- 11:40Speaker 1: to that in a second. But and I've talked about
- 11:42Speaker 1: the issues I did have with Adobe. But what happens
- 11:48Speaker 1: is these companies they continue to innovate. They don't just
- 11:53Speaker 1: put out of software and say here's the software, use
- 11:58Speaker 1: it now. For many of us, that was great. Quick
- 12:02Speaker 1: Books was phenomenal. It did exactly what you needed it
- 12:05Speaker 1: to do. I go back on my years past and
- 12:09Speaker 1: I look at some of the invoices for my business.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I had a first desktop publishing business, then computer repair
- 12:17Speaker 1: business that I would do even here at this radio
- 12:21Speaker 1: station that we broadcast on. I was actually hired as
- 12:24Speaker 1: a videographer before I was ever a DJ on this station.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I had done radio, and I love the story about
- 12:31Speaker 1: this one. I had done radio at in Tucson. We
- 12:35Speaker 1: had a number one morning show for a couple of years.
- 12:38Speaker 1: We were you know, we had a lot of listeners
- 12:40Speaker 1: that would tune in, and we had moved here from
- 12:43Speaker 1: Palm Springs where we also did very good Me and
- 12:45Speaker 1: my former partner Barry Donovan, who is no longer with us,
- 12:48Speaker 1: but we had a pretty great morning show. And then
- 12:52Speaker 1: when things changed started to change in radio and the
- 12:57Speaker 1: market kind of went boom and bust. Then it was
- 13:01Speaker 1: trying different things, went over to a couple of different stations.
- 13:05Speaker 1: This show somehow just kept surviving and would show up
- 13:09Speaker 1: at different stations and it was great. The station the show,
- 13:14Speaker 1: if you don't know, came with me from Pump Springs
- 13:18Speaker 1: and it was cool. And I ended up doing a
- 13:23Speaker 1: lot of video. It's what I was doing in the
- 13:25Speaker 1: late eighties. And we're talking analog editing on three quarter
- 13:29Speaker 1: its videotape. And I saw an ad in a radio
- 13:35Speaker 1: magazine that would hire radio talent and the ad was
- 13:39Speaker 1: for videographer and it was for the station here. I thought, oh,
- 13:44Speaker 1: I'll go find out what's going on, and so I
- 13:47Speaker 1: went and met with the owner of the station and
- 13:50Speaker 1: we talked about video and told me some of the
- 13:53Speaker 1: things he wanted to do, and I was hired and
- 13:57Speaker 1: it was. It was on a piece by piece basis.
- 14:00Speaker 1: It was great. I would go ahead and he'd say, Okay,
- 14:02Speaker 1: can you go over to Dwight's Auto Glass or here
- 14:05Speaker 1: was out of family restaurant, and I would go in
- 14:07Speaker 1: there and I would shoot videos and it was It
- 14:09Speaker 1: was awesome. And the pay wasn't that great, sorry, boss,
- 14:13Speaker 1: but it was still good because It kept me working
- 14:15Speaker 1: and I was able to do other radio things as well,
- 14:18Speaker 1: and we ended up doing tech talk radio just on
- 14:21Speaker 1: the web at that point, and it was a lot
- 14:25Speaker 1: of fun. And one day I was talking to our
- 14:27Speaker 1: former program director here, Tom Lang, and we were I
- 14:31Speaker 1: was videotaping an event for them over at Desertdemic Casino,
- 14:35Speaker 1: and I told Tom, I said, boy, I miss radio,
- 14:38Speaker 1: and he goes, wait, you did radio And I said yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 1: and I said, did radio in Tucson, And he'd never
- 14:45Speaker 1: heard of the show. I had done so much for
- 14:47Speaker 1: our number one ratings, and he said, well, heck, if
- 14:51Speaker 1: we ever have a part time position, you know, open
- 14:54Speaker 1: up or a filling, you want to do it. I'm like, yeah, absolutely,
- 14:57Speaker 1: And that's how they found out A did radio, and
- 15:00Speaker 1: I ended up doing radio here at this station. I've
- 15:03Speaker 1: been with the station now since two thousand and nine.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Brought tech Talk over here, I want to say about
- 15:09Speaker 1: twenty fourteen. It was something I always wanted to do,
- 15:12Speaker 1: is bring it to the station, which just matter of
- 15:14Speaker 1: having the right slot and the right spot. So I'm
- 15:16Speaker 1: very appreciative for the owners letting us do this tech show,
- 15:19Speaker 1: and I hope I do hope this helps some of
- 15:22Speaker 1: you that when you run into a tech situation, we're
- 15:26Speaker 1: able to do that for you. Now, I kind of
- 15:28Speaker 1: strayed a little from the story, but you know how
- 15:31Speaker 1: software as a service has changed things. We looked at
- 15:35Speaker 1: QuickBooks and quick books. Yeah, it was great for a
- 15:38Speaker 1: lot of us that just needed to do an invoice.
- 15:41Speaker 1: And I'll be honest with you, I went ahead and
- 15:44Speaker 1: I moved to the subscription model, and the sscerptions started
- 15:48Speaker 1: off relatively inexpensive, but every year they added new features
- 15:54Speaker 1: that I wasn't using, and the price continued to grow,
- 15:58Speaker 1: and I find decided to opt out. When we got
- 16:03Speaker 1: to I want to say, it was about I want
- 16:05Speaker 1: to say, four hundred maybe five hundred dollars a year
- 16:08Speaker 1: to use the software. Oh yeah, So you might remember
- 16:12Speaker 1: quick books, and you might remember when you could go
- 16:15Speaker 1: into the computer store and it wasn't that much. Now
- 16:19Speaker 1: you know you want a subscription to that, it's going
- 16:21Speaker 1: to cost you a lot more. Now the engineers have
- 16:24Speaker 1: done some more things, but as a small business, it
- 16:27Speaker 1: may not be exactly what you really needed. We saw
- 16:30Speaker 1: the same thing with Microsoft Microsoft Office. Might remember having
- 16:36Speaker 1: Microsoft Office when you would go and you would buy
- 16:39Speaker 1: Office two thousand and three, two thousand and four, and
- 16:42Speaker 1: you would all buy that. You got Microsoft Word, you
- 16:45Speaker 1: got Microsoft Excel, power Point, you got some of the
- 16:51Speaker 1: other programs that came with that outlook, and it was great.
- 16:55Speaker 1: But then they continued to innovate and you suddenly needed
- 16:59Speaker 1: to buy a subscription to be able to use the
- 17:04Speaker 1: Microsoft platform. Well, a lot of people hung on to
- 17:08Speaker 1: using Microsoft Words, some of the older versions, and it
- 17:12Speaker 1: can still be done. People are still doing it. Same
- 17:17Speaker 1: goes with into It. As a matter of fact, I'll
- 17:18Speaker 1: be honest with you, I still use into It the
- 17:22Speaker 1: Quick Books twenty thirteen. It works for me. I'm not
- 17:26Speaker 1: paying a subscription. It's the old one I had. They
- 17:30Speaker 1: didn't do dirty pool by turning off their activation servers
- 17:33Speaker 1: at least at the time when I installed it a
- 17:35Speaker 1: few years back, and it worked for me, so that
- 17:39Speaker 1: that worked out pretty good. Then you came across some
- 17:43Speaker 1: companies that when you bought a software, you'd have to
- 17:46Speaker 1: register it and activate it and you can have it
- 17:48Speaker 1: on one computer, maybe two computers or four, or maybe
- 17:52Speaker 1: you'd be able to use it on multiple computers, but
- 17:55Speaker 1: never at the same time. So whenever you logged in
- 17:58Speaker 1: to your program would send a log in to that company.
- 18:03Speaker 1: And one of those companies that had done that in
- 18:06Speaker 1: the past that you could buy the software direct to
- 18:08Speaker 1: just buy it and use it forever was Adobe. And
- 18:13Speaker 1: I had issues and I've talked about with Adobe because
- 18:16Speaker 1: what I ran into is they turned off their activation servers.
- 18:20Speaker 1: So say you had a program and in the radio business,
- 18:24Speaker 1: Adobe Audition was one of the finest audio editing programs
- 18:28Speaker 1: for just getting commercials made. You would do it for
- 18:32Speaker 1: even podcasters could use it. And what happened is an
- 18:38Speaker 1: Audition one point five and Audition three they turned off
- 18:43Speaker 1: the activation servers. So what happens is to say you
- 18:46Speaker 1: had to reinstall your computer and you didn't you uninstall it.
- 18:51Speaker 1: You ran into these issues, and if your hard drive died,
- 18:55Speaker 1: you had to reinstall. You didn't have a backup. You
- 18:58Speaker 1: suddenly may not be able to use that program anymore,
- 19:00Speaker 1: and you had to switch to software as a service
- 19:03Speaker 1: and use their creative Cloud program. And that's what a
- 19:07Speaker 1: lot of people had to do. Well, we know that
- 19:10Speaker 1: October coming up is going to be the big Microsoft
- 19:15Speaker 1: change from Windows ten to Windows eleven. And I know
- 19:18Speaker 1: a lot of you are on Windows ten and your
- 19:21Speaker 1: computers may up qualified to upgrade to Windows eleven. It's
- 19:25Speaker 1: a couple of things you need. Ed Bot over at
- 19:27Speaker 1: zd net put together a great article about that. I
- 19:30Speaker 1: recommend taking a look again ed Bot Bott. You can
- 19:34Speaker 1: do a Google search for that and zd net and
- 19:36Speaker 1: just do Google search for upgrading to Windows eleven ed Bot,
- 19:40Speaker 1: and he kind of breaks down the entire process for
- 19:44Speaker 1: you and why maybe you're not able to or what
- 19:48Speaker 1: you need to do to make it possible. Don't know
- 19:51Speaker 1: if Microsoft's going to change too much before that happens
- 19:55Speaker 1: when it comes to the requirements, but it's going to
- 19:59Speaker 1: cause a lot mayhem for a lot of people. I
- 20:02Speaker 1: ended up deciding, okay, I needed to have Windows eleven
- 20:07Speaker 1: in my studio, especially when suddenly my networking stopped working.
- 20:10Speaker 1: And after one of the updates from Microsoft, I've since
- 20:14Speaker 1: got it working, so I'm happy with that. But I thought, yeah,
- 20:18Speaker 1: maybe it's time. So I went to PC parts Picker,
- 20:24Speaker 1: which is a great website to go if you want
- 20:25Speaker 1: to build your own computer. I decided, okay, I'm going
- 20:29Speaker 1: to build a system, then I'm going to install Windows eleven.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I ended up going to Stack Social, whis a great
- 20:36Speaker 1: place to go find some of those software programs, although
- 20:40Speaker 1: they've run into some of that software as a service
- 20:43Speaker 1: issue with some other software that they were selling. And
- 20:47Speaker 1: I got it installed and it was great out a
- 20:51Speaker 1: Windows eleven machine running super fast, newer processor, newer than
- 20:56Speaker 1: the Windows ted machine I had in the studio that
- 20:58Speaker 1: had the Adobe Audition Creative Suite five point five on it,
- 21:05Speaker 1: and I loved it. Well. When I want to install
- 21:10Speaker 1: the Creative Sweet five point five from Adobe, I could
- 21:13Speaker 1: not install it anymore, said I had too many activations.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I got in touch with a representative that was offshore
- 21:22Speaker 1: for Adobe, and his exact thing for me was to
- 21:26Speaker 1: tell me, oh, okay, uninstall it on your computer. Deactivate it,
- 21:33Speaker 1: uninstall it and you'll be able to You should be
- 21:36Speaker 1: able to use it on the new computer. Those words
- 21:40Speaker 1: should should have been taken into account. Went ahead and
- 21:44Speaker 1: did that. So here I took it off a computer
- 21:47Speaker 1: that was working Windows ten. It was great. When to
- 21:50Speaker 1: install it, too many activations. So when I called back,
- 21:55Speaker 1: of course, I've got another tech support agent offshore told
- 22:00Speaker 1: me he could give me a great deal on the
- 22:03Speaker 1: Adobe Creative Cloud. And I said, I've got Adobe Creative Cloud,
- 22:08Speaker 1: which I do courtesy of our friends at Adobe, and
- 22:11Speaker 1: that expires this week, and I got a chance to
- 22:15Speaker 1: look at it and that was that was kind of cool,
- 22:17Speaker 1: and I'll get to that coming up. But I said, okay, well,
- 22:22Speaker 1: I just you know, removed it to activate it. And
- 22:25Speaker 1: he said, well, the problem is our activation server is
- 22:30Speaker 1: no longer working. So this guy tells me to remove
- 22:34Speaker 1: the software. I do, and it was working fine, and
- 22:39Speaker 1: then when I got to reinstall it on the new computer,
- 22:42Speaker 1: it won't install. There's nothing I can do, so PC
- 22:46Speaker 1: mover won't do it. You know, There's nothing I could
- 22:50Speaker 1: do on that case. So it was a little frustrating
- 22:55Speaker 1: and I decided, okay, well, I'm just gonna have to
- 22:57Speaker 1: stick with Creative Cloud. And I wasn't happy about it
- 23:00Speaker 1: because Creative Cloud was at the time looks like it
- 23:03Speaker 1: was going to cost me an investment of about six
- 23:05Speaker 1: hundred and seven hundred dollars. It's a lot of money
- 23:08Speaker 1: for software, and I started playing around with it. I
- 23:12Speaker 1: wanted to I wanted to learn it. In the meantime,
- 23:14Speaker 1: I also installed a couple of other software programs, but
- 23:17Speaker 1: I installed Adobe Creative Cloud on this new computer and
- 23:22Speaker 1: I got sold it is an amazing software program. And
- 23:26Speaker 1: I realized something. With software as a service, it's so
- 23:30Speaker 1: easy for us to say, wait a minute, I bought
- 23:33Speaker 1: this license, and this license was in a perpetual license.
- 23:38Speaker 1: That meant I could use this software forever and it
- 23:41Speaker 1: does exactly what I need. And that's true. But the
- 23:46Speaker 1: problem is the innovation that takes place with some of
- 23:49Speaker 1: these companies in the software. And I know that's probably
- 23:53Speaker 1: not going over well with some but the innovation is
- 23:56Speaker 1: pretty amazing. What they've been able to do with Premiere
- 23:59Speaker 1: Pro now put together videos Premiere Pro with the new
- 24:05Speaker 1: Generative Extend using AI features is pretty awesome. I tested
- 24:11Speaker 1: it out. I needed five seconds extra for a video project.
- 24:15Speaker 1: With Generative Extend, you have your video on the timeline
- 24:19Speaker 1: and you say, gosh, I need five more seconds. You
- 24:23Speaker 1: can highlight and tell it to a Generative Extend here
- 24:27Speaker 1: and again. It can take it and turn it into
- 24:30Speaker 1: whether it's a human being, a car, a sunrise. It
- 24:35Speaker 1: can give you that extra five seconds. You can now
- 24:39Speaker 1: caption your videos. You can also foreign language caption your
- 24:43Speaker 1: videos with Adobe Premiere Pro Creative Cloud. I was like, wow,
- 24:48Speaker 1: that's pretty amazing stuff. Photoshop with the generative fill again
- 24:55Speaker 1: adding to a photo, making it faster for you to
- 24:59Speaker 1: do your edit, giving you more control over those edits.
- 25:04Speaker 1: That is pretty amazing as well, Adobe Audition giving you
- 25:08Speaker 1: more features as well. But what really really blew me
- 25:12Speaker 1: away this past week is playing around with Firefly Adobe
- 25:17Speaker 1: Firefly and you could do the same thing and start
- 25:21Speaker 1: testing it out where it takes. And again, we know
- 25:23Speaker 1: a lot of us are not big fans of the
- 25:27Speaker 1: term when it comes to the you know, the the
- 25:33Speaker 1: AI artificial intelligence, but it can do some pretty amazing
- 25:36Speaker 1: things there text to video. I want to create something
- 25:41Speaker 1: that looks good. How about a sunrise over the cactus
- 25:45Speaker 1: in the sweltering deserts of Tucson. It did it? Or
- 25:49Speaker 1: a photo of an angry sun. It could be a
- 25:52Speaker 1: graphic you want to use for a flyer. So if
- 25:55Speaker 1: you are a professional, you may find that the Adobe
- 26:00Speaker 1: Creative Cloud Pro may be just what you really need
- 26:04Speaker 1: to use and you'll need. It's difficult to get out
- 26:07Speaker 1: of the mindset, well, it did everything before that I
- 26:10Speaker 1: needed and I don't need all this AI. Take a
- 26:14Speaker 1: look at it. The unfortunate side is the price just
- 26:18Speaker 1: went up in June. They're changing to the Adobe Creative
- 26:23Speaker 1: Cloud Pro, which will again give everything, but it's adding
- 26:27Speaker 1: about ten dollars a month to the program. You could
- 26:29Speaker 1: still end up spending about eight hundred dollars a month.
- 26:32Speaker 1: And you may have some features when it comes to
- 26:35Speaker 1: the artificial intelligence, maybe not all, but it is something
- 26:41Speaker 1: you may want to take a look at. There'll be
- 26:43Speaker 1: another tier of service for the Creative Cloud. You could
- 26:46Speaker 1: look at that as well. I don't know if and
- 26:49Speaker 1: I've asked the reps at Adobe, could they just turn
- 26:52Speaker 1: on the servers again, let people register their software that
- 26:55Speaker 1: had to upgrade to Windows eleven that still will be
- 26:59Speaker 1: fine using that. Don't know if that's gonna happen. I
- 27:03Speaker 1: have to assume it's not. But give Adobe Creative Cloud
- 27:07Speaker 1: a try. It's free trial for you to give it
- 27:09Speaker 1: a look, but take the time to actually get into
- 27:12Speaker 1: the program and use it and see if that maybe
- 27:14Speaker 1: works for you. And again, I did some video samples
- 27:18Speaker 1: on the segment for television this week. So when we
- 27:22Speaker 1: want to think software as a service, it's just a
- 27:24Speaker 1: way for them to get more money out of us. Yep,
- 27:26Speaker 1: they are. It's fueling that innovation, paying for the engineers
- 27:30Speaker 1: to do the creation of the software that can benefit
- 27:34Speaker 1: us more so something to think about. And again you
- 27:38Speaker 1: can find out more at Adobe dot com. Take a
- 27:40Speaker 1: look at Firefly that's on there, and again try the
- 27:43Speaker 1: trial version for that. We're gonna take quick break. We'll
- 27:46Speaker 1: come back with more of tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Find us on the web a tech talkRADIO dot com
- 27:53Speaker 1: and now back to tech talk Radio. Always like to
- 27:57Speaker 1: fill you in on software that you may want to
- 28:01Speaker 1: be checking out and hardware that has some cool things
- 28:04Speaker 1: that are a part of it. And one of them
- 28:06Speaker 1: that I thought actually was really pretty meat that you
- 28:12Speaker 1: may like is from a company called so Lease. And
- 28:15Speaker 1: we've talked about so Lease before. If you have a
- 28:18Speaker 1: smartphone that has a hot spot, you know what I'm
- 28:20Speaker 1: talking about, that hot spot that gives you ability to
- 28:24Speaker 1: access the World Wide Web from just about anywhere, which
- 28:28Speaker 1: makes it nice. You could also use your smartphone as
- 28:32Speaker 1: a hot spot so that your laptop can connect to it. Well.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Solease or Simo has put together what they're calling the
- 28:40Speaker 1: so lese Hub now here. Here's what it is, and
- 28:44Speaker 1: I kind of like this. It's what they're calling a
- 28:47Speaker 1: cutting edge home router featuring a four G LTE backup
- 28:54Speaker 1: powered by Cemos Virtual sim technology. So imagine you may
- 29:00Speaker 1: you have, you know, a cable service or you have
- 29:04Speaker 1: a satellite service that's providing you with your your Internet
- 29:09Speaker 1: and unfortunately it goes out and you're working on a project.
- 29:12Speaker 1: You've got to get this project finished. You want to
- 29:14Speaker 1: you know, get it all done well with this holeas hub.
- 29:18Speaker 1: And again this is this is a hub that can
- 29:21Speaker 1: you know, you could still power it off your your
- 29:23Speaker 1: regular Internet service, but when it goes down, you've got
- 29:28Speaker 1: that four G LTE backup powered by this virtual sim technology.
- 29:33Speaker 1: It keeps homes connected during Internet outages, gives you uninterrupted
- 29:39Speaker 1: connectivity when it's needed. And it looks just like a
- 29:43Speaker 1: regular home router, which I love. So it does four
- 29:47Speaker 1: G e LTE backup so it'll automatically switch to that
- 29:51Speaker 1: four G LTE during the Internet outages. And can you
- 29:54Speaker 1: give you download speeds up to three hundred megabits per
- 29:57Speaker 1: second and even upload speeds well some of it us
- 30:00Speaker 1: are saying, good, I get twenty megabits per second. It
- 30:03Speaker 1: could give you upload speed spending where you're at about
- 30:05Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty megabits per second. Features, dull band
- 30:09Speaker 1: Wi Fi six support, which means that like a router,
- 30:13Speaker 1: it's you know, connected in your home and you'll be
- 30:16Speaker 1: able to connect all your devices to this this router
- 30:19Speaker 1: that is normally working off your regular you know, subscribe services,
- 30:23Speaker 1: and then if those subscribe services go down, it switches
- 30:26Speaker 1: to the four G l T E backup. It can
- 30:29Speaker 1: do aight oh two doll eleven A A B, G N,
- 30:32Speaker 1: A C or A X for that performance. Now here's
- 30:35Speaker 1: what's really cool about it. Now, remember there is a
- 30:38Speaker 1: subscription that will go with this, but the product itself
- 30:41Speaker 1: you buy outright for one hundred and ninety nine bucks
- 30:44Speaker 1: at least that's the pricing that they're looking at. Uh,
- 30:48Speaker 1: it's available for purchase now. You can do CIMO dot
- 30:52Speaker 1: com or dot co co that's s I m O
- 30:55Speaker 1: dot Co. And then their plans that are available you
- 30:59Speaker 1: could get. And remember you wouldn't be I don't think
- 31:01Speaker 1: you would be using this all the time, right the
- 31:05Speaker 1: ten gigabit per month plan from solease to the soleise hub.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Remember it wouldn't be using it all the time. Only
- 31:12Speaker 1: if you know your internet goes out. We're coming up
- 31:14Speaker 1: on monsoon season, so that could happen ten gigabits per
- 31:18Speaker 1: month for only seven dollars, and that doesn't seem too
- 31:22Speaker 1: bad right now. If you don't use it, it doesn't
- 31:25Speaker 1: roll over. But ten gigabits for seven. If you need
- 31:29Speaker 1: the hot backup plan, which I'm not sure exactly what
- 31:33Speaker 1: that is, you'd have to find out on the Solease
- 31:36Speaker 1: website Simo dot co. That's ten gigabits per month for
- 31:40Speaker 1: twenty five dollars. I have a feeling that might be
- 31:43Speaker 1: your you know, your smartphones, et cetera. The primary plan though,
- 31:47Speaker 1: if you want to get that, that's one hundred gigabits
- 31:50Speaker 1: per month. That's a lot, a lot of data for
- 31:54Speaker 1: eighty nine dollars. So no matter what you're paying your
- 31:59Speaker 1: cable provider. Now, for some they might say that's going
- 32:02Speaker 1: to work out better for them, and then you would
- 32:04Speaker 1: use I guess you would use that all the time anyway.
- 32:08Speaker 1: That's something to think about. That is again from so Lease,
- 32:12Speaker 1: it's Cimo Simo dot co. If you want to get
- 32:17Speaker 1: more information about that product. Another one that I really
- 32:22Speaker 1: like that has been announced from Epsin And if you've
- 32:26Speaker 1: seen any of these segments I've done with the epsin
- 32:29Speaker 1: fast they got the epsin fast Photo, which is does
- 32:34Speaker 1: scanning photos very fast. I'm getting that and incorporating it
- 32:38Speaker 1: into my desktop publishing and website business and we're doing
- 32:43Speaker 1: digital scanning for people. But they've kind of gone in
- 32:46Speaker 1: different areas. They also have the EPs and Rapid Receipts
- 32:49Speaker 1: for you know, doing your receipts super fast. Well, now
- 32:53Speaker 1: they've introduced the sure color F ten seventy and what
- 32:59Speaker 1: this can do. And I got a friend that owns
- 33:02Speaker 1: Aladdin Graphics, and Aladdin Graphics does they specialize in this,
- 33:07Speaker 1: So I would still say contact them. But the shirt
- 33:10Speaker 1: color F ten seventy can print directly onto shirts. The
- 33:15Speaker 1: quality pretty impressive. So imagine you know, you're coaching a
- 33:19Speaker 1: little league team here in Green Valley, Sabudita, or you
- 33:23Speaker 1: get together with a company picnic and you want to
- 33:25Speaker 1: everybody have the same shirts. You're celebrating the anniversary of
- 33:29Speaker 1: your company, and you want to create your own shirts. Sure,
- 33:32Speaker 1: you go out, you buy the shirts, and then you
- 33:34Speaker 1: go ahead and you get them printed. You do the
- 33:36Speaker 1: printing right with the sure Color F ten to seventy.
- 33:39Speaker 1: You can look it up on the EPSOM website. But
- 33:42Speaker 1: here is the downside of that. And that's when you
- 33:45Speaker 1: might want to pick up the phone and call Troy
- 33:47Speaker 1: over at Aladdin Graphics. It will cost you about seventy
- 33:51Speaker 1: five hundred bucks to buy this printer. Now, some might say, well,
- 33:56Speaker 1: I'm a little entrepreneur. I could start doing my own
- 33:59Speaker 1: T shirt. That's something you can think about. Got to
- 34:02Speaker 1: take in project cost, how you're going to get that business,
- 34:05Speaker 1: et cetera. But epsom doing this so that people that
- 34:08Speaker 1: want to have full control over their printing process, or
- 34:11Speaker 1: again want to make their own shirts, they could do that.
- 34:14Speaker 1: But again, that's the sure color F ten seventy and
- 34:20Speaker 1: you'd be able to find that there. Let me tell
- 34:22Speaker 1: you about another product. Here we go, all right, not
- 34:27Speaker 1: long ago on television, I showed the Palm, and some
- 34:31Speaker 1: people said, whatever happened to the Palm? They got bought
- 34:34Speaker 1: by HP and that kind of Yeah, that was kind
- 34:37Speaker 1: of the end of that, right. Well, I had the
- 34:40Speaker 1: old Palm you might remember the Palm Pilot or the
- 34:43Speaker 1: Trio or the you know, the Palm smartphone, and I
- 34:48Speaker 1: ended up finding it and I you remembered, how you know,
- 34:52Speaker 1: when you text with the Palm, how easy it was.
- 34:56Speaker 1: You didn't have that on screen keyboard. Some of you
- 35:00Speaker 1: really hate that the Android or the iPhone on screen keyboard. Well,
- 35:05Speaker 1: the Pompilot or the Trio, you had actually keys. People
- 35:10Speaker 1: love that and you wanted to maybe switch to numbers.
- 35:13Speaker 1: You hit one button and you could do that, and
- 35:16Speaker 1: you could text with it very easily. Fit right in
- 35:19Speaker 1: the palm of your hands. You still had a nice
- 35:21Speaker 1: screen on. It wasn't as nice as the screen to
- 35:23Speaker 1: get now with the Androids like the Pixel nine or
- 35:26Speaker 1: the latest iPhone or even the Samsung Galaxy devices, but
- 35:33Speaker 1: it was cool to be able to have those keys. Well,
- 35:35Speaker 1: you can have those keys with the Clicks keyboard cases.
- 35:39Speaker 1: And if you've scrolled on the web and you've looked
- 35:42Speaker 1: for a placement phone, if you looked for mobile keyboards,
- 35:46Speaker 1: you probably have been fed in ad with the Clicks keyboard.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Now how it works, It's basically just looks just like
- 35:56Speaker 1: this keyboard, maybe a little bigger on the keys. Uh.
- 36:01Speaker 1: And it works with the Google nine, Pixel nine, Galaxy
- 36:04Speaker 1: S twenty five, motorole Eraser Plus. It doesn't look like
- 36:09Speaker 1: it's available on the pro XL yet. I don't know
- 36:11Speaker 1: if that could could have changed by press time, But
- 36:14Speaker 1: if you want to see these and you want to
- 36:17Speaker 1: actually use a keyboard, I would really recommend jumping onto
- 36:21Speaker 1: the World Wide Web and going to clicks dot tech
- 36:25Speaker 1: that clicks dot T e c H at c l
- 36:29Speaker 1: I c k s dot T e c H and
- 36:32Speaker 1: your phone actually plugs in, like kind of snaps in
- 36:36Speaker 1: to this device which holds your phone. Uh has I
- 36:41Speaker 1: believe it has the wireless on the back, so you could,
- 36:44Speaker 1: you know, smart charge it. You can, then you then
- 36:48Speaker 1: have a physical keyboard for your smartphone. So if you've
- 36:53Speaker 1: gotten to the point where you're just fed up with
- 36:57Speaker 1: that keyboard, I'm one of those. I use voice to
- 37:01Speaker 1: text quite a bit and it always gets it wrong.
- 37:04Speaker 1: But again, if you are fed up that and you
- 37:06Speaker 1: want to actually have a physical keyboard, you might want
- 37:08Speaker 1: to take a look at that they sell. They're not
- 37:10Speaker 1: inexpensive though. While you could go out and buy a
- 37:14Speaker 1: Logitech K four eighty for right around fifty bucks, this
- 37:20Speaker 1: sells for up around one hundred and thirty nine dollars.
- 37:23Speaker 1: But again, it plugs into your phone, plugs right into it,
- 37:27Speaker 1: and you can carry it around that way. So again
- 37:29Speaker 1: that might be something that you might want to think
- 37:31Speaker 1: about doing. One hundred and thirty nine dollars clicks dot teh.
- 37:37Speaker 1: You can get more information there about this device. And
- 37:41Speaker 1: again you may you may like that. All right. Top
- 37:46Speaker 1: ten passwords used in the United States have been revealed.
- 37:51Speaker 1: And I'm not looking at you, but if you use this,
- 37:54Speaker 1: you want to stop using it immediately. According to a
- 38:00Speaker 1: study that was put together by I want to say
- 38:04Speaker 1: this was malward? Was this malword? Bites? Well? Here here
- 38:08Speaker 1: it is. The second most common password in the US
- 38:13Speaker 1: is one two three four five six. That is ranked
- 38:19Speaker 1: the most number one common password in the world. I
- 38:23Speaker 1: know they're a pain in the butt. I know you
- 38:25Speaker 1: have so many different logins, whether it be a company
- 38:29Speaker 1: you do business with or you know, logging into pay
- 38:33Speaker 1: your smartphone bill, your bank account, you know the whole bit.
- 38:37Speaker 1: It could be a pain in the butt. One two
- 38:40Speaker 1: three four five six people are using that. That's the
- 38:43Speaker 1: most common password in the US and the number one
- 38:47Speaker 1: common password in the world. The easy to guess passwords
- 38:51Speaker 1: at ranked from third, fourth and fifth. The most common
- 38:54Speaker 1: in America are password. The next one is quirdy q
- 39:01Speaker 1: W e r t y one two three. And if
- 39:04Speaker 1: you're wondering where that comes from, quirdy was once used
- 39:08Speaker 1: as a demonstration on your username and password. Somebody said,
- 39:14Speaker 1: I'll use that as my password. Not good. Quirdy is
- 39:18Speaker 1: the top line next to the tab on your general
- 39:20Speaker 1: most keyboards q w e r T y. Then one
- 39:23Speaker 1: two three. Don't want to use that one as well.
- 39:26Speaker 1: All right, that is the fourth most common password in America.
- 39:31Speaker 1: The next one is quirdy number, and then just number
- 39:34Speaker 1: one q W e r t Y one. So if
- 39:37Speaker 1: you're wondering. Seventh and eighth on the list are one two, three, four, five,
- 39:44Speaker 1: six seven eight nine. That's sixth. Seventh is password one again,
- 39:50Speaker 1: don't use that. Then one two three, four, five sixty
- 39:53Speaker 1: seven eight comes it at number eight, ninth and tenth
- 39:57Speaker 1: on the most common passwords among Americans. Don't be writing
- 40:01Speaker 1: these down and using these. Please don't. If you're using them,
- 40:04Speaker 1: change them. They are one, two, three, four five, and
- 40:09Speaker 1: then ABC one two three. Now the thing is, you
- 40:14Speaker 1: may think, well, what does it matter? You know I'm
- 40:17Speaker 1: using this, I'm the only one who knows the user name.
- 40:20Speaker 1: People are phishing, which which basically means they're trying to
- 40:24Speaker 1: find out your user name. You may accidentally give that up,
- 40:28Speaker 1: and then once they have that It's all about finding
- 40:30Speaker 1: out which past you're using. The number one most common
- 40:35Speaker 1: password in the US. Do not use this. If you
- 40:38Speaker 1: were using it, please change it is secret, sec R
- 40:43Speaker 1: E T secret. Now here's what I'd recommend. Now you
- 40:47Speaker 1: may say, well, what about those password managers that are
- 40:50Speaker 1: a part of Google or even Microsoft Edge. I I
- 40:56Speaker 1: have used those in the past, and I would say, don't.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Somebody can get onto your browser if you're logged in,
- 41:04Speaker 1: and they can figure out those passwords, see them very quickly,
- 41:07Speaker 1: take screenshots. What I honestly recommend is a product called
- 41:13Speaker 1: one Password one the number one password. You don't want
- 41:16Speaker 1: to use that one either one password, but use the
- 41:19Speaker 1: software program you set it up. You have a secret
- 41:24Speaker 1: code to get in and then there are all your passwords.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Anytime you want to create a password, you could create
- 41:31Speaker 1: a super long password that within your browser it will
- 41:35Speaker 1: remember it. Within your smartphone it can remember it. And
- 41:39Speaker 1: you want to use difficult passwords, longer passwords to hack,
- 41:42Speaker 1: longer passwords for somebody to try and crack. And again
- 41:47Speaker 1: you can add this to your safe deposit box. So
- 41:50Speaker 1: in case of medical emergency and you don't have access
- 41:53Speaker 1: to your devices, somebody else does, they'll still be able
- 41:56Speaker 1: to access that with that long secret code that you
- 42:00Speaker 1: would be given one password. The software program itself not
- 42:04Speaker 1: very expensive, I want to say under fifty bucks, might
- 42:07Speaker 1: be like thirty nine dollars, but I'd really recommend installing that.
- 42:11Speaker 1: You could install it on all the browsers you use,
- 42:14Speaker 1: and it's a great way to maintain and secure your password.
- 42:17Speaker 1: So don't fall into that trap of just one, two,
- 42:20Speaker 1: three ABC secure your password? Are you going to take
- 42:24Speaker 1: another quick break? We come back with more of tech
- 42:27Speaker 1: Talk Radio, hopefully providing some great information for you on
- 42:30Speaker 1: this Saturday afternoon. Thanks for listening. Now back to TIEF
- 42:34Speaker 1: Talk Radio. After I decided I needed to take a
- 42:37Speaker 1: look at some different software programs that may enable me
- 42:40Speaker 1: the opportunity to create after I found out that my
- 42:45Speaker 1: we Creative Suite was no longer going to be able
- 42:48Speaker 1: to work because I wasn't able to install it on
- 42:51Speaker 1: the computer that I had up dated to Windows eleven,
- 42:55Speaker 1: and I sort of looking for other programs to do tasks.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Now we've mentioned it before, Sean told us about Alternative
- 43:03Speaker 1: two and you can go to on the Worldwide Web
- 43:05Speaker 1: Alternative t O dot net and what you do is
- 43:10Speaker 1: you enter the program name that maybe you're using, and
- 43:14Speaker 1: it will suggest some alternatives for you. So that way,
- 43:18Speaker 1: if you know, used to using one program to get
- 43:21Speaker 1: something done, like maybe you used Photoshop Express or Photoshop
- 43:26Speaker 1: or even some of the other program Correl that used
- 43:29Speaker 1: to use the Correll photopaint program, and you want to
- 43:32Speaker 1: use something else, well, you can type that in Gimp
- 43:36Speaker 1: may come up. People still use Gimp. They love Gimp.
- 43:39Speaker 1: It's an alternative too, that program. And so I ended
- 43:45Speaker 1: up just asking a couple of my friends that work
- 43:48Speaker 1: in the biz, and it was kind of interesting for
- 43:53Speaker 1: you know, radio. For me, it's always been Adobe Audition.
- 43:57Speaker 1: There is a program that I know of that's available
- 43:59Speaker 1: out there if you want to maybe you want to
- 44:01Speaker 1: create your own podcast and you would like to do stuff.
- 44:03Speaker 1: It's called Audacity. And again you'll find that available on
- 44:08Speaker 1: alternative to dot net, at least the link for that.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Make sure when you're getting software programs, you're getting it
- 44:13Speaker 1: from the authentic, authorized website. Got to be real careful
- 44:17Speaker 1: because fakes can be set up pretty easily that could
- 44:21Speaker 1: actually hurt your system. So Audacity is good. There's some
- 44:27Speaker 1: neat features on it. It's a matter of learning the
- 44:31Speaker 1: program and how it works differently than a w audition,
- 44:34Speaker 1: like when you export a project us export in the
- 44:39Speaker 1: file itself. I've had some people who have used Audacity
- 44:43Speaker 1: that send me a file and that file is still
- 44:46Speaker 1: in the Audacity format, so you know you're setting it
- 44:48Speaker 1: as a wave or an MP three that type of
- 44:51Speaker 1: that type of situation there. So again Audacity is pretty good.
- 44:54Speaker 1: But I did use a couple of programs that I
- 44:56Speaker 1: wanted to just give kind of the heads up of
- 44:58Speaker 1: the programs that I used. First off is a program
- 45:02Speaker 1: called Reaper r e a p e R. Now it's
- 45:06Speaker 1: not a free program. It is a paid program. They'll
- 45:09Speaker 1: give you a sixty day trial window to use it.
- 45:12Speaker 1: But the cost to acquire the Reaper program on your system,
- 45:18Speaker 1: which can be installed on two systems not at the
- 45:21Speaker 1: same time, is I want to say, around about seventy dollars.
- 45:26Speaker 1: But it will allow you to edit audio, which actually
- 45:32Speaker 1: I really got used to using the Reaper program. I
- 45:34Speaker 1: liked it. It has some great features, great you know,
- 45:39Speaker 1: great easy editing tools that are a part of it.
- 45:42Speaker 1: And again that's r e a p e R. You
- 45:46Speaker 1: can download it, give it a try for sixty days
- 45:49Speaker 1: and see if you like it and see if that's
- 45:50Speaker 1: something that you might want to use the other program
- 45:56Speaker 1: that I used for that, and I ended up stumbling
- 45:59Speaker 1: across this. So I have a small mini mixer that
- 46:03Speaker 1: I use when I do videos or when I'm doing
- 46:06Speaker 1: the podcast training sessions. I've taken it out with me
- 46:10Speaker 1: so that way the kids on the reservation that's where
- 46:13Speaker 1: I went last week, they end up being able to
- 46:18Speaker 1: talk into the microphones and I give them kind of
- 46:20Speaker 1: an overall about podcasting and how cool it is and
- 46:24Speaker 1: it's always a lot of fun knowledge and learning as
- 46:26Speaker 1: a group that put that together. John Proudstar is a
- 46:29Speaker 1: local artist and actor and he was out there as well,
- 46:34Speaker 1: so it was pretty cool. But I buy the Macki product,
- 46:39Speaker 1: and there's other I know there's other mixers on the
- 46:41Speaker 1: market and mixers. What that is is it takes your
- 46:44Speaker 1: audio input, so you have one mixer one microphone, right,
- 46:49Speaker 1: and then maybe you have another audio input, so you
- 46:52Speaker 1: put two microphones so you can do a discussion with
- 46:56Speaker 1: the both microphones and use the mixer to bring that
- 46:58Speaker 1: all down into one audio file. And Maki makes a
- 47:02Speaker 1: whole bunch of them. I previously used the MACI fourteen
- 47:06Speaker 1: oh two VLZ which was a multi channel mixer and
- 47:11Speaker 1: it was great, but it would plug in to the
- 47:14Speaker 1: computer using a scarlet box by focus right, or I
- 47:19Speaker 1: would have the Creative Labs external sound card and would
- 47:23Speaker 1: plug into that which would plug into the computer. It
- 47:26Speaker 1: was nice, but again just more cables laying around. What
- 47:29Speaker 1: I like about the one that I used for MACI
- 47:31Speaker 1: the pro FX six x three. It actually connects via
- 47:38Speaker 1: USB so you can record, you know, two microphones. You
- 47:42Speaker 1: could have another source as well for line in or
- 47:46Speaker 1: you could do you know, upgrade your your mixer, the
- 47:48Speaker 1: Pro eight, the Pro ten do you get more lines,
- 47:52Speaker 1: more microphones depending on what you're doing. But and then
- 47:56Speaker 1: it outputs via USB into the USB in and becomes
- 48:00Speaker 1: a sound device on your computer, so that works out
- 48:04Speaker 1: really good. You could even apply effects to it, the
- 48:07Speaker 1: whole bit. And I bought mine some years ago and
- 48:10Speaker 1: I've been using it. And the other day when I
- 48:13Speaker 1: was putting everything together to head on out to the
- 48:17Speaker 1: reservation over the Boys and Girls Club there in Levigne,
- 48:21Speaker 1: I noticed on the box it said pro Tools. You
- 48:27Speaker 1: got a license for pro tools that came with the mixer,
- 48:31Speaker 1: and it was pro Tools version Pro. There's different levels,
- 48:34Speaker 1: but I thought let's try that. So I installed it
- 48:39Speaker 1: on the computer and it is amazing. I used it
- 48:42Speaker 1: one time in a broadcast environment, not here, but in
- 48:45Speaker 1: another one, and I wasn't a big fan of it
- 48:47Speaker 1: because I didn't understand it. I didn't have the time
- 48:50Speaker 1: to go through it. But I've had the time to
- 48:51Speaker 1: sit and play and really kind of experiment and learn.
- 48:56Speaker 1: There's lots of great videos online, but pro Tools really
- 49:00Speaker 1: it kind of surprises me. So again, that is one
- 49:03Speaker 1: that's going on my new computer. Even though it looks
- 49:07Speaker 1: like I am going to bite the bullet and do
- 49:09Speaker 1: the Creative Cloud Pro, I will have this on another
- 49:12Speaker 1: computer and pro Tools for some basic editing and I
- 49:17Speaker 1: if you want to experiment, you want to play around
- 49:21Speaker 1: with some of this editing with audio and put together
- 49:26Speaker 1: a podcast, I recommend that now. I also showed some
- 49:29Speaker 1: products from Fuffine Fi Fi n E and not long ago,
- 49:36Speaker 1: I bought a microphone from fuf Fine from the super
- 49:41Speaker 1: sale bin store of course that we have here in
- 49:43Speaker 1: Green Valley Sawaudita and it was a great deal. I
- 49:47Speaker 1: got it for I want to say it was a
- 49:48Speaker 1: fifteen dollars day, so it was the opening day, but
- 49:51Speaker 1: I ended up getting this microphone and I love it.
- 49:54Speaker 1: I've since bought a mixer that they put out from
- 49:59Speaker 1: fuf Fine. It is not bad, but there is something
- 50:04Speaker 1: you need to know about that. And then the fuf
- 50:06Speaker 1: Fine am A microphone. The Fine am A microphone can
- 50:11Speaker 1: plug in via USB or USB C, or it can
- 50:16Speaker 1: plug in an XLR, which could be very helpful depending
- 50:19Speaker 1: on the mixer you're plugging it into. If you're using
- 50:22Speaker 1: a mixer. Uh. The mixer that for Fine put out
- 50:27Speaker 1: unfortunately has one input. That's it. And I would say, man,
- 50:31Speaker 1: don't waste your time. If you're gonna get a mixer,
- 50:33Speaker 1: get at least one that has two audio inputs. For microphones,
- 50:39Speaker 1: I would recommend that, and that's why I recommend the
- 50:41Speaker 1: pro FX six x three by mac E M A
- 50:45Speaker 1: C K I E. You can find more information about
- 50:48Speaker 1: that online. Uh, and not waste the time with the
- 50:52Speaker 1: fuf Fine mixer. But their Fine microphone. The pickup quality
- 50:55Speaker 1: that it is not bad. It's RGB, so if you're
- 50:58Speaker 1: doing video that goes along with your audio, it looks
- 51:00Speaker 1: pretty smart. I mean, it's got a nice color to it,
- 51:03Speaker 1: and the audio pickup on it is pretty good as well.
- 51:06Speaker 1: So again you can find those fine Fi Fi n E.
- 51:10Speaker 1: There is a better I will say, there is a
- 51:12Speaker 1: better microphone that's available on the market. Most radio broadcasters
- 51:16Speaker 1: you'll see them and even in podcasters you'll see them
- 51:19Speaker 1: using the SM seven B microphone. It's a pretty pricey microphone,
- 51:25Speaker 1: runs about three hundred and fifty four hundred dollars. You
- 51:28Speaker 1: may even be a little higher than that. That microphone's
- 51:31Speaker 1: got great pickups. So what I'm using right now and
- 51:33Speaker 1: it's good, but they have a better one out now
- 51:36Speaker 1: and I'm hoping to get my hands on one to
- 51:37Speaker 1: try it out. It's the Sure SM seven dB. And
- 51:42Speaker 1: what they basically take in is Cloudlifter, which is a
- 51:45Speaker 1: great device which gives a little more oomph, a little
- 51:48Speaker 1: more power to the audio chain. It's kind of built
- 51:52Speaker 1: in so you get this really dynamic sound and podcasters
- 51:58Speaker 1: radio broadcasters are so again that's the Sure SM seven D.
- 52:04Speaker 1: Be all right, I got to take a quick break.
- 52:05Speaker 1: We come back with more of tech talk Radio, I
- 52:08Speaker 1: mean Detaylor find us of the web at tech talk
- 52:10Speaker 1: radio dot com. We'll be right back and now back
- 52:14Speaker 1: to tech talk Radio. This is Stephen right you know,
- 52:16Speaker 1: listening to tech talk radio. Yeah, some alung that line. Yeah,
- 52:22Speaker 1: I guess that was it. All right, let's go with it.
- 52:28Speaker 1: I love it. I'll say it anyway. All right, this
- 52:32Speaker 1: is Stephen Wright and you're listening to tech Talk Radio.
- 52:35Speaker 1: But you know, I've already been saying that this is
- 52:41Speaker 1: the time of the show that we'd like to share
- 52:43Speaker 1: with you a cool website of the week. Sometimes it's
- 52:46Speaker 1: a product of the week, and I decided I wanted
- 52:49Speaker 1: to come up with a website that you could enjoy
- 52:53Speaker 1: when this show is over, we're back to your familiar
- 52:57Speaker 1: favorites that you could actually have some fun with and
- 53:01Speaker 1: and tell your friends about. So there are lots of
- 53:04Speaker 1: great websites that are out there. There are that you
- 53:08Speaker 1: can have some fun with. We've talked about some of
- 53:10Speaker 1: those in the past, like the Lazy Fly, which I
- 53:13Speaker 1: think is a good one. But here's one that is
- 53:16Speaker 1: just a collection of just websites that you can you
- 53:20Speaker 1: can find you go to the useless web dot com.
- 53:26Speaker 1: The uselessweb dot com and it's gonna be different forever
- 53:31Speaker 1: just about everybody. But I'm gonna go here and you'll
- 53:33Speaker 1: you'll say, take me to another useless website. Please, So
- 53:37Speaker 1: once you're there, you hit please and like for me,
- 53:42Speaker 1: it came up with sliding toys a daily puzzle. It
- 53:45Speaker 1: has the date, shows that how many people have done
- 53:48Speaker 1: that and that whole bit, so you could do that.
- 53:50Speaker 1: One you don't like it, go to another one, the
- 53:53Speaker 1: long Dodge challenge your doge, thank you and it just okay,
- 54:02Speaker 1: there you go. You could print it again, useless website,
- 54:06Speaker 1: go to another one. Always judge a book by its covers.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Some books went awards, others some win our heart and
- 54:13Speaker 1: others only serve to confuse. This book, it's an actual book,
- 54:19Speaker 1: how to talk to your cat about gun safety. And
- 54:22Speaker 1: again you could find the link. You could actually listen
- 54:27Speaker 1: to some of the book on audible. Another book that
- 54:31Speaker 1: they have Outwitting Squirrels, more than one million squirrels outwitted.
- 54:35Speaker 1: Here's another book, how to survive a garden gnome attack.
- 54:40Speaker 1: Eating people is wrong, Crafting with cat hair, Cute handicrafts
- 54:46Speaker 1: to make with your cat. And then one that I've
- 54:49Speaker 1: actually heard of, this book and I saw this in there.
- 54:53Speaker 1: It's called Florida Man. And for any of you from Florida,
- 54:56Speaker 1: I apologize here. But what is some of the crazy
- 54:59Speaker 1: stories that always start off with a Florida man and
- 55:03Speaker 1: then you go on from there and again. You can
- 55:05Speaker 1: find it at the uselessweb dot com. Have some fun
- 55:10Speaker 1: with that. Let me know what you come up with.
- 55:12Speaker 1: Just drop me a line, Andy atech Talk radio dot com.
- 55:15Speaker 1: In the meantime, have yourselves a wonderful weekend Memorial Day weekend.
