- 0:00The book of Jonah. This book is actually a very
- 0:04short book. It's only four chapters long.
- 0:06And I want to tell you about something, if you haven't seen
- 0:11this already, because it's amazing.
- 0:14When the Bible comes to life, many people have probably heard
- 0:18the story. If you're in Christianity,
- 0:21you've heard the story of Jonah and the whale, and a lot of kids
- 0:26see it. There's kids books about it and
- 0:28about this man being, you know, inside the mouth of a whale.
- 0:33And it's always like, for me, it was always like that.
- 0:38This was just a story, a fabricated story, a myth to put
- 0:42together something. And until I read the Bible and
- 0:46realized that no, this is actually legitimately true.
- 0:49Like this did happen and people would say like that could never
- 0:53happen. What kind of a fish was it?
- 0:55Well, here's what I want you to do, which is really cool, the
- 0:58way God is revealing himself. Go to YouTube and just search
- 1:04Whale Swallows Kayak and you will see all of these different
- 1:10accounts even on the CBS News. For those who would only trust
- 1:14it if they saw it on the news, it's there's Whale Swallows
- 1:18kayaker and then spits him out off the Chilean coast.
- 1:23This was four months ago. I'm recording this on June 16th,
- 1:272025, so just four months ago. God is revealing himself.
- 1:33He's letting us know the Bible is true.
- 1:36There was a man and there's other accounts too.
- 1:40So it shows these other people that were almost like, you know,
- 1:46swallowed up by a whale. And again, so search it for
- 1:52yourself. It's there's a Guardian News has
- 1:55one that CBS News has it. ABC News has it.
- 2:00I don't know. And then there's actually an
- 2:03interview, which is really cool. But actual man who had happened
- 2:06to describes being swallowed by the whale.
- 2:10And there's like 52,000 views on his humpback whale swallows
- 2:16kayaker. There's 1.4000 views and
- 2:21humpback whale swells kayaker 20,000 views.
- 2:25So there's a lot of people are seeing this, but not everyone.
- 2:29And so there probably is a chance that people have not seen
- 2:33this yet, but it's really cool because it shows us that the
- 2:38Bible is true. So with that introduction, I'm
- 2:41going to go to the study Bible introduction about Jonah and
- 2:45what it says about Jonah. So why read this book?
- 2:49I love how the Study Bible always has that introduction on
- 2:54it. Why read it?
- 2:55If you've ever thought that some people are beyond hope, so evil
- 3:01that they are incapable of change?
- 3:03The book of Noah may upset your thinking.
- 3:07When we consider serial killers, rapists, drug kingpins or
- 3:12terrorists, it's natural to expect that such violent, hate
- 3:17filled individuals will be punished.
- 3:20But this book shows us that God wants to extend His grace and
- 3:26mercy to even the worst of people.
- 3:30People like the Assyrians, who were known for their gruesome
- 3:33torture practices. Jonah challenges us to see that
- 3:38God may want to use us to reach out to the very people we tend
- 3:44to despise and see beyond and see as beyond redemption.
- 3:50That's a great reminder that God is so forgiving, merciful,
- 3:56compassionate, that all people are sinners.
- 4:02People have done things to various degrees, but God
- 4:05welcomes everyone back who is willing to repent and receive
- 4:12the Holy Spirit so that their lives can be changed and that
- 4:15they can become more holy like God.
- 4:19Who who wrote the book? Most likely the prophet Jonah
- 4:22wrote autobiographically about what happened to him.
- 4:26When was it written? Probably sometime between 785
- 4:30and 750 BC during the reign of Jeroboam the second, the king of
- 4:34Israel. So if you listen to the last,
- 4:37you know, where are we headed with this Bible study podcast on
- 4:42this is showing us that he was in the area.
- 4:46I guess he was part of the 10 tribes of Israel because it's
- 4:52referencing Jeroboam, the second, the king of Israel.
- 4:55We have two separate factions. So this is the northern faction
- 5:00of Israel. They split because they couldn't
- 5:02agree on who was going to be king.
- 5:03So they have two parallel kings at governing portions of Israel.
- 5:09And so this this Kingdom represents 10 tribes.
- 5:13The other ones that it doesn't represent are the southern
- 5:16kingdoms, which are Judah and Benjamin.
- 5:19So what was happening at this time?
- 5:21Israel's northern Kingdom regained its influence as and
- 5:26was restored by Jeroboam the second.
- 5:29But the Assyrians, whose capital was Nineveh, were asserting
- 5:34themselves in increasingly menacing ways.
- 5:38I think it's really helpful, at least for me it is to kind of
- 5:42when they use these ancient lands names because they aren't
- 5:47exactly the same boundaries as today.
- 5:50So we can't interchange identically.
- 5:52But for me it helped. If I think about what land is it
- 5:57today that we're talking about, South Nineveh is in modern day
- 6:04Iraq. So that's what we're talking
- 6:06about. And we're talking about people
- 6:08who are coming from Samaria, which is in Israel.
- 6:15And a lot of times you hear you hear this reference.
- 6:19So their their capital was Samaria.
- 6:22It was not Jerusalem. Jerusalem was the capital for
- 6:27the kings of Judah, but these kings were from Samaria.
- 6:34And it's kind of interesting because Samaria is the, I guess
- 6:39the the origin of Samaritans. So when we study the New
- 6:44Testament Bible, we hear about the Samaritans and they were
- 6:46kind of the look down upon ones. But there was the Good Samaritan
- 6:51story that Jesus told. So again, this is another thing
- 6:55that supports how God is so merciful and even if they are
- 6:58considered the lesser of or the more evil of, God is still
- 7:04redeeming them and still wanting them to come into His Kingdom.
- 7:12So we remember that. Why was it written to tell the
- 7:16story of God's concern for even the enemies of His people?
- 7:20This book also shows how God used a reluctant prophet as a
- 7:25vehicle of His grace, what to look for in Jonah, God's
- 7:30compassion for all people, His desire for earnest repentance
- 7:36regardless of what someone has done, and the extraordinary
- 7:40links to which he will sometimes go to get our attention.
- 7:46That's so true. I know it took me a while in my
- 7:50faith journey and I had to go through some tough hardships for
- 7:55me personally before I actually came to turn to God and
- 8:01repented. So chapter 1, Jonah flees from
- 8:05the Lord. The word of the Lord came to
- 8:08Jonah. Son, actually I need to stop and
- 8:11pray. Dear God, please be with us as
- 8:14we read through this scripture and bring to mind anything you
- 8:17want the Holy Spirit to give us and to reflect upon and to apply
- 8:23to our lives. We ask for this in Jesus name,
- 8:26Amen. So the word of the Lord came to
- 8:29Jonah, son of Amitaya, Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach
- 8:34against it, because its wickedness has come up before
- 8:39me. Now this reminds me of Sodom and
- 8:43Gomorrah, where God, the prayers of the people, had come up
- 8:49before him. And that's what came to mind
- 8:51when I was reading this, was that the people of Nineveh, the
- 8:56prayers are going up to God. Could this also be the same of
- 9:00what's happening right now in June of 2025 in the Middle East?
- 9:06Are the prayers I'm I've seen reports like of the people of
- 9:11Iran, which is the next country over where they are not happy
- 9:17with the regime that's in power right now.
- 9:20And Israel is currently attacking and eliminating many
- 9:26of the people of power in Iran. And there's, you know, the the,
- 9:32the leadership, the ones who are oppressing the people of their
- 9:36own country and not looking out for their own country.
- 9:40I've also seen where the leaders were fleeing the country to
- 9:43protect themselves, but leaving the people with really no
- 9:47defenses. So we're we're watching
- 9:52historical biblical events almost replaying and today.
- 10:00And God loves the people of Iran, and God wants the people
- 10:05of Iran to know him and to repent of worshipping other gods
- 10:12and come to him for protection. So yes, God even extends to the
- 10:18people, the enemies of Israel like it.
- 10:21We talked before about curses and blessings against those who
- 10:24come against Israel, that if you bless Israel, you will be
- 10:28blessed. If you curse Israel, you will be
- 10:30cursed. And that starts in the book of
- 10:32Genesis. And it was given to Abraham,
- 10:36which everyone of religion, like the three religions, Islam,
- 10:43Jewish and Christian, all recognize Abraham as the
- 10:47beginning of everything. But then Abraham gives that
- 10:51blessing to his son Isaac. So that would be the Jewish
- 10:55people that it was given to. And but we have to also remember
- 11:02that God wants all people in his Kingdom.
- 11:06So even though he chose Israel, he, it's not only Israel that he
- 11:12wants in his Kingdom. So it's open to all nations and
- 11:17that's just very important for us to remember.
- 11:21So anyway, God is speaking to Jonah.
- 11:24He's telling him to go to Nineveh, which is in modern day
- 11:28Iraq, and he because he's there's been prayers apparently
- 11:34that it's wickedness has come up before me.
- 11:38Or maybe it was prayers. Maybe it wasn't prayers.
- 11:40Maybe it was actually the accuser.
- 11:43Like Satan goes around looking for his next victim and he
- 11:46accuses before God because he knows God loves people because
- 11:50he created all the people and he created the people to be a part
- 11:53of his family. And so Satan knows that Satan
- 11:57knows it, but there's a law that if you know the basically the 10
- 12:02commandments, if you break any of them, that your wages of sin
- 12:06is death. And the only way to avoid that
- 12:12death, that permanent, well, it's not even permanent death,
- 12:15but that eternal separation from God is to trust in Jesus, to
- 12:21trust in Jesus's death and resurrection on the cross, to
- 12:25believe that and pray to God that that be revealed.
- 12:30You know, we can all agree that Abraham had a good relationship
- 12:34with God. And Abraham is the father of all
- 12:37of all, you know, the Jewish faith, the Islamic faith, and
- 12:42the Christian faith, because everybody recognizes him.
- 12:47And but he passed on to Isaac his son that God supernaturally
- 12:54made happen because Abraham was like 100 years old and Sarah was
- 12:59about 90 years old when she had Isaac.
- 13:02And it was divine intervention that she had a baby.
- 13:05And that was the one that was in that got it intended for Abraham
- 13:10to have. But Abraham, actually, Sarah got
- 13:13impatient and offered her her servant or her, I don't know
- 13:20what you call it, but her helper to sleep with Abraham.
- 13:25And that's where Ishmael was born from that interaction.
- 13:31But that wasn't what God had intended.
- 13:33That's an example of us. Take of us.
- 13:36That's an example of people taking things into their own
- 13:39hands and not waiting on God to wait on God.
- 13:42We should always do that. That's submitting to God.
- 13:46That's allowing God's leadership, guidance, and
- 13:49everything to guide our lives. So I'm getting a little bit off
- 13:52track here. I'm going to go back to the
- 13:53story here, but OK Jonah. So verse 3.
- 13:58But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed to headed for
- 14:01Tarshish. He went down to Joppa where he
- 14:06found a ship bound for that part.
- 14:09After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish
- 14:13to flee from the Lord. So Tarshish is the exact
- 14:19opposite direction from Nineveh. Nineveh is inland.
- 14:24Tarshish is like out in the Mediterranean Sea.
- 14:27So I'm looking at a map and I'm seeing where this is.
- 14:30And so he traveled to Joppa and Tire is shown in here too.
- 14:37So that's kind of interesting to not knowing where where he was
- 14:42originally located. I don't, but maybe this study
- 14:45Bible will tell us later. But he went in the exact
- 14:48opposite direction from where God told him to go.
- 14:51And a lot of times we are like that too, When, when we feel
- 14:56like not, well, I don't know if we feel like God is asking us to
- 15:00do something we don't want to do.
- 15:02Like apparently, I mean, he, he served the Lord.
- 15:04So he recognized the Lord and the Lord came to him and told
- 15:11him what he wanted him to do, but he didn't do it.
- 15:14He was like, no, I don't, I don't want to do that.
- 15:16I want to, I'm going to get away from all that.
- 15:19Like you can't run away from God.
- 15:21God will sees everything. He will find you wherever you
- 15:24are. So if you had a word from God or
- 15:28a if you knew something was from God and he wanted you to do
- 15:32something, you might as well do it because if you don't, you can
- 15:36probably expect what happens to Jonah.
- 15:40So let's let's read this. But Jonah ran away from the
- 15:43Lord, OK? Then the Lord sent a great wind
- 15:47on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship
- 15:52threatened to break up. All the sailors were afraid, and
- 15:57each cried out to his own God. So they weren't worshipping the
- 16:01one true God, and they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten
- 16:06the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck
- 16:10where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.
- 16:15The captain went to him and said, how can you sleep?
- 16:18Get up and call on your God. Isn't this interesting just now?
- 16:22This came to mind. Jesus kind of did the same
- 16:25thing. If you remember the disciples,
- 16:27he was with his followers on a ship and a storm came about and
- 16:33Jesus fell asleep and his disciples were like, how can you
- 16:36sleep with all this stuff? And then Jesus stood up and
- 16:39Jesus calmed the storms. So that was an account in the
- 16:44New Testament. It reminds me of this account
- 16:47here where the captain finds him and he's sleeping.
- 16:49He goes get up and call on your God.
- 16:52So it's a very similar, like a again, this is 700 BC, I mean,
- 16:59earlier than that. And, and this is happening, it's
- 17:03like a foreshadowing of Jesus. And you don't notice this until
- 17:08you start studying the Bible and finding these things like this.
- 17:12So how can you sleep, get up and call on your God?
- 17:14Maybe he will take notice of us so that we will not perish.
- 17:19Then the sailors said to each other, come, let us cast lots to
- 17:23find out who is responsible for this calamity.
- 17:26So casting lots we learned in the book of Esther was called
- 17:32poor PUR and it was a term that was they were like almost like
- 17:38dice. And not only the Hebrews but
- 17:43other are not only the Jewish people, but the Israelites.
- 17:48Not only the Israelites, but also all people were using dice
- 17:54to get decisions from their gods.
- 17:56Now, God did condone this sort of thing, apparently, because
- 18:02the ephod of the high priest had the whatever it was that they
- 18:11used to get decisions. So the high priest would use
- 18:16that to gain guidance from God. But they were seeking guidance
- 18:19from the one true God, whereas other people who don't believe
- 18:23in God and are asking for guidance are getting things from
- 18:26evil. And so it's it's just
- 18:30interesting. But back then they did this to
- 18:34find out who is responsible for this calamity.
- 18:38They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah.
- 18:41So somehow somebody, I don't know, you know, well, God is
- 18:46ultimate. So maybe God just took over that
- 18:50that chance in quotations chance and actually made it truth like
- 18:58this is Jonah. So they asked him, tell us who
- 19:00is responsible for making all this trouble for us?
- 19:03What kind of work do you do? Where do you come from?
- 19:06What is your country from what people are you?
- 19:08So they're like this guy. Who is this guy?
- 19:11And he answers, I am Hebrew and I worship the Lord, the God of
- 19:15heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.
- 19:19This terrified them and they asked, What have you done?
- 19:23They knew he was running away from the Lord because he had
- 19:26already told them so. The sea was getting rougher and
- 19:30rougher. So they asked him, What should
- 19:32we do? What should we do to you to make
- 19:35the sea calm down for us? Pick me up and throw me into the
- 19:40sea, he replied, and it will become calm.
- 19:43I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon
- 19:47you. Instead, the men did their best
- 19:50to row back to land, but they could not, for the sea grew even
- 19:55Wilder than before. Then they cried out to the Lord.
- 20:00Please, Lord, do not let us die for taking this man's life.
- 20:04Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man.
- 20:08For you, Lord, have done as you pleased.
- 20:11Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging
- 20:16sea grew calm. All this, all this.
- 20:22At this, the men greatly feared the Lord, and they offered a
- 20:26sacrifice to the Lord and made vows to him.
- 20:30OK, so God will do like again. He's using supernatural means to
- 20:37get the attention of people. He still does this today.
- 20:41When we see hail, when we see abnormally big hail happening,
- 20:46that's a warning from God. If we knew the Bible, we would
- 20:50understand that when there are so many natural events that are
- 20:56from God to get our attention like He allows, He allows.
- 21:00Now there is something that I don't know, I think evil can
- 21:05enforce. Storms can make storms happen
- 21:08also, but God is ultimately in charge of it.
- 21:11So God allows certain things to happen.
- 21:14And so it's really important to be submitted to God, to be
- 21:19faithful to God, to be obedient to God because it can impact
- 21:24even storms, even the weather. And people today think, Oh my
- 21:28gosh, that's like weird thinking.
- 21:30That's primitive people who didn't know any better.
- 21:33But that is not true. God is still whether or not we
- 21:37have meteorologists today, if you notice, none of them can
- 21:41predict accurately 100% of the time.
- 21:46They're doing their best guesses with radar, with all sorts of
- 21:51scientific means to figure out what's going to happen and maybe
- 21:59even create what's going to happen because they can
- 22:02manipulate the weather too. So there are certain
- 22:06capabilities, but God is above all of that.
- 22:10So there are these miraculous stories where people were spared
- 22:15from a severe natural storm and it is God.
- 22:23God did that. And that probably just depends
- 22:27on your level of faith, whether you believe it.
- 22:29Like IA 100% believe it. I know it's truth because I've
- 22:34seen it in the Bible, historical accounts of it.
- 22:38I believe the Bible and I know who God is and I know that God
- 22:43can do those things and he does those things today.
- 22:47But we are so conditioned by the world's thinking that we don't
- 22:53necessarily always believe in these miracles or these
- 22:56supernatural means of protection.
- 22:58But God does do this today. So be in to God when you see
- 23:05disaster coming. It says that God will shelter
- 23:08his, He will protect his children.
- 23:11So keep in prayer to God and pray for your family, your
- 23:16friends, those you love for protection.
- 23:20You know, it's God protects his children.
- 23:23Unfortunately, the wicked might succumb to God's judgment when
- 23:28that happens. So you know, prayer doesn't
- 23:31protect 100% of the whole population because 100% of the
- 23:37whole population is not submitted to God.
- 23:40So there is protection when we are submitted to God.
- 23:44It shows us that in the Bible repeatedly.
- 23:47So read the Bible if you don't believe me and find it for
- 23:51yourself. So how did God send his word to
- 23:55Jonah? God could have used visions,
- 23:58dreams, or even signs in nature. He also could have spoken to him
- 24:03directly. So think about that.
- 24:05You know God still does that today.
- 24:07He's giving people visions and dreams today.
- 24:10There's a couple of YouTube channels where people are
- 24:13sending in their visions and dreams and it's ironic that a
- 24:16lot of them are having similar dreams and visions.
- 24:20Now people can scientifically or logically say now they're
- 24:24hearing these things, they're all repeating them.
- 24:27So again, believe what you want to believe.
- 24:29But you know, some of them I, I don't, I do listen to those just
- 24:36because I'm curious, because I started having dreams myself.
- 24:39Ironically, the night of my baptism was my first dream in
- 24:432021. And they've continued.
- 24:45I never know when they're going to come, but when they come,
- 24:48they are very detailed and I remember things and they have
- 24:51biblical context. And I never dreamed about the
- 24:54Bible before in the past, Despite that I was reading the
- 24:58Bible since 2019. So for two years I was reading
- 25:03the Bible regularly and studying it, and I did not have any
- 25:07dreams. It wasn't until the night of my
- 25:10baptism that I started having dreams.
- 25:12So and that was when I actually submitted to God, when I was
- 25:16like, OK, I'm not going to be a hypocrite anymore.
- 25:18I need your help in living my life so that I'm not a hypocrite
- 25:22and I want to do your will. And when I did all of that and I
- 25:27took action and did that by being baptized, things did
- 25:33change in my life and things are changing in my life.
- 25:37And I do get dreams. I've never had a vision, but I
- 25:40get dreams if unless a vision is what I call like a scene.
- 25:44Sometimes I'll see a scene like a dream, but it doesn't, it's
- 25:47not like a, it's not like a movie or a reel that goes on and
- 25:51has a whole story content. It's just a, a picture of
- 25:56something. And so maybe that is a vision.
- 25:58I don't really know what these things are.
- 26:00I definitely know what dreams are and I do have those or even
- 26:04signs in nature. And he could have spoken to him
- 26:07directly because Samuel, when he, I think it was when Samuel
- 26:13was called, he actually audibly heard the voice of God.
- 26:19And I believe it was Samuel when yes, it was when he was in the
- 26:23priest. His mother Hannah had given him
- 26:27to live with the priest because God enabled her to have him to
- 26:33have a child. And then she devoted her child
- 26:36to God, to the service of God. And God audibly spoke with him.
- 26:40I never heard God's audible voice, but I have like heard or
- 26:48received what I would just call like words were in my thoughts.
- 26:54So it was never an audible voice.
- 26:56There wasn't a sound associated with it, but they were like
- 27:00scripture verses of Scripture. They were also warnings before
- 27:04that actually came true that like I understood what they were
- 27:08after the fact. I had no idea what it meant when
- 27:10I got it, but then later on I understood what it meant.
- 27:13So this is true. And I can only say this because
- 27:17it's happened to me. And that's, you know, you just
- 27:21it's not going to probably mean much to you because it didn't if
- 27:24it didn't happen to you. But I'm just speaking.
- 27:28I'm, you know, get telling you the truth about what happened to
- 27:31me. So why did Jonah run from God?
- 27:34He may have been afraid of the wicked Ninevites who were
- 27:37international terrorists who fueled the Assyrian war machine.
- 27:42He may also have been influenced by nationalistic prejudice and
- 27:46may have wanted God to favor Israel alone, even though God's
- 27:51word to Nineveh was one of judgement.
- 27:55So a warning of judgement to, you know, repent.
- 28:00That's the thing right now. Like what's going on right now
- 28:03is Israel seems to have the upper hand with Iran.
- 28:07Iran is shooting things back. But it I was, I had read that a,
- 28:14a good number of their missiles had been destroyed of but they
- 28:18still have a lot more that they can send.
- 28:20And so they are there's like a volley going back and forth
- 28:23between Israel and Iran right now.
- 28:26And but if they would stop and repent and turn to God, this
- 28:35could all end. The question is they don't all
- 28:40believe in the same God, which is sad.
- 28:44Tarshish was a city. OK, where is where was Tarshish?
- 28:47Tarshish was a city in Spain. It was the opposite direction
- 28:52from Nineveh and was about as far away from Nineveh as Jonah
- 28:57could get. OK, so that's interesting.
- 28:59I didn't know that it was near Spain.
- 29:02So he's supposed to go to Iraq, but he goes to Spain instead.
- 29:06Interesting. What?
- 29:09Where was Joppa? Joppa was a seaport northwest of
- 29:13Jerusalem, known today as Jaffa. How did the lots expose Jonah?
- 29:21He may have drawn a marked Pebble or the short straw.
- 29:25Whatever the method, it was no coincidence God was in control
- 29:29of the outcome. You can check out Proverbs 1633
- 29:34about God being in control and was confronting Jonah's
- 29:38stubbornness. What frightened the sailors?
- 29:41These Pagan sailors believed in many gods, each restricted to
- 29:45certain domains, are limited to certain abilities.
- 29:48Yet they were suddenly confronted with the unfamiliar
- 29:51concept that one God ruled over heaven and was creator of both
- 29:56the sea and the land, and they were caught in the middle of a
- 29:59storm caused by this awesome God's anger.
- 30:03They may have also been afraid of Noah, of Jonah, who was in
- 30:07their midst. Must have been a wicked man to
- 30:10have caused such divine wrath. So that's really interesting.
- 30:14These Pagan sailors that believed in many gods.
- 30:17I have a theory, it's not fact, but it's drawn from extra
- 30:23biblical records. The book of Enoch that talks
- 30:26about there were watchers, angelic watchers over human
- 30:31beings and some of those watchers rebelled against God
- 30:37and did selfish things and interacted with humans.
- 30:42I believe as a theory, as a possibility, not like 100%
- 30:48believe, but I think it's a really solid theory that if the
- 30:54book of Enoch is true, which I think it probably it might be,
- 31:00then these fallen angels presented themselves as gods to
- 31:07all the people of the world's. And that's how we have all these
- 31:11different religions and these different deities that are
- 31:15worshipped around the world because they are dividing up the
- 31:20people, dividing up humans. And as Jesus said, a divided
- 31:25Kingdom cannot stand. So if they create these multiple
- 31:30religions, they're going to wipe out, basically destroy the
- 31:34people who believe in false gods.
- 31:37But they're very deceptive about it.
- 31:39So they do it in a way that lures people in.
- 31:42So the people are rather innocent.
- 31:45And God will reveal himself and at some point in everyone's
- 31:50life, because God is just, He will make known who He is to
- 31:56someone and they will have a choice.
- 31:58Do you want to follow your false God?
- 32:00Or do you want to believe in the one true God?
- 32:02Do you want to live in God's Kingdom?
- 32:04Do you want the inheritance? You know who is the one who was
- 32:09humble, meek, loving, sacrificed himself.
- 32:15He was not selfish. He let, he allowed himself to be
- 32:21killed on the cross in order to become the sacrifice that was
- 32:27required for the atonement of sin forever for all people, for
- 32:33all of mankind, so that we could be in God's Kingdom.
- 32:38This is Jesus, Yeshua the Messiah or the Messiah means
- 32:46Christ. So Jesus Christ or Yeshua
- 32:50Hamashiach, I think it's how you say that.
- 32:53So he is the Messiah, Jesus the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
- 32:57And anyone who doesn't believe in Jesus will be eternally
- 33:02separated from God the Father because Jesus made it possible
- 33:08for us to be in the Kingdom. And if we deny him, he will deny
- 33:11us. So if you are not a believer of
- 33:15Jesus, if you're not a Christian, then you will have
- 33:19eternity, but it's going to be separated from the one true God,
- 33:24and there will be torment for that choice.
- 33:26It's very clear in the Bible that is a real outcome and it's
- 33:31eternal because you will have rejected God by rejecting His
- 33:37Son. So please do all that you can.
- 33:41Pray to the one true God to reveal if you don't believe in
- 33:45Jesus, that you and God will reveal somehow in your life.
- 33:50He will make it known. So why does God use such unusual
- 33:55methods? God may use what is unusual in
- 33:58our eyes to get our attention and build our faith in Him.
- 34:03Unusual or miraculous events tend to be impressive and hard
- 34:08to explain away as coincidence. When.
- 34:10In addition to the raging storm and the results of casting lots,
- 34:15God used a great fish to save Jonah's life.
- 34:19He got Jonah's attention in a dramatic way that softened
- 34:23Jonah's stubborn attitude. What kind of fish swallowed
- 34:28Jonah? The Bible uses language that
- 34:30spoke to people in ancient times in terms they knew and
- 34:34understood. Here the word translated fish
- 34:37could refer to a whale, but the Hebrew is not specific.
- 34:42All we know for certain is that the creature was big enough to
- 34:46swallow Jonah whole and retain him in its belly for three days
- 34:52and nights. Now, the three days and nights,
- 34:55that's significant. You know, earlier we talked
- 34:57about Jesus being in the boat with the disciples and the
- 35:00storm. And Jesus stood up and rebuked
- 35:02the storm and it stopped. So that was like a foreshadowing
- 35:06of Jesus, like an actual event that ultimately pointed to
- 35:10Jesus. So this is the Old Testament
- 35:12written in 700 BC that is giving the Israelites a clue, which
- 35:21they don't even know until hindsight.
- 35:23They're going to see that this is pointing them to Jesus when
- 35:27Jesus did these. And they unfortunately don't
- 35:30read the New Testament. So they don't have that
- 35:33information and they don't understand this.
- 35:36And but it ties us back to the Old Testament.
- 35:40And then the three days and three nights.
- 35:42This was like Jesus on the cross, his death on the cross
- 35:45and his resurrection. It happened over 3 days, three
- 35:47nights. So it's again a foreshadowing, a
- 35:51symbolism of Christ resurrection.
- 35:55And again, this is for all people.
- 35:58So this is a message for all people.
- 36:00Jesus Christ died and raised, was raised again to life and is
- 36:07living right now. And because he defeated death,
- 36:11he did that. He was the ultimate, the only
- 36:14sacrifice needed. Like we don't have to go through
- 36:16a bunch of works to earn it. We can't earn it because we're
- 36:20broken and we're broken by sin, by our sinful nature.
- 36:24So the only way could be by the the blood of Christ, the
- 36:29sacrifice that he was the sacrificial lamb.
- 36:33So the Jewish people understand sacrificing animals as atonement
- 36:38for like temporary atonement for their sins.
- 36:42Jesus death, his body, his blood is the permanent sacrifice that
- 36:48atones for all people. Why?
- 36:50Because he is the son of God. He, I mean, he didn't have a, he
- 37:00had a stepfather, Joseph not, but his true father was God and
- 37:06the Holy Spirit made it possible for Mary to have Jesus.
- 37:13So that's why he is different. He did not sin while he was here
- 37:16on earth. You compare that to other people
- 37:20that are in elevated positions like anybody, like Moses.
- 37:23He killed a man, all the greats in the Bible, David had an
- 37:28affair. He had Bathsheba's husband
- 37:30murdered. But you know, these are all
- 37:33people that were considered great in the Bible.
- 37:36All of them had bad things in their life.
- 37:39And then if you talk about Islam, Muhammad, they're Oh my
- 37:42gosh, the list is on and on and on.
- 37:44He like killed so many people. He took a wife of an 8 or a nine
- 37:49year old child and made that his wife and consummated that, you
- 37:55know, like that was really bad there.
- 37:57And there's a lot of other things about Muhammad that is
- 38:00really bad. And I don't know why people can
- 38:02think he was greater than Jesus, but they recognize Jesus and
- 38:07recognize that Jesus was good. I think it's just the deception
- 38:10of the enemy of God to lure people into this false religion.
- 38:14And anyway, but Jesus is the answer.
- 38:19Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the life and no one
- 38:21comes to the Father except through me.
- 38:24So if you don't recognize Jesus as the Son of God, that he died
- 38:29on the cross, which is what Islam does, it talks about Jesus
- 38:32not dying but being taken up to the father.
- 38:35That's not true because that's the whole thing.
- 38:39It's the lie. And, and here's the other thing.
- 38:42The last book of the Bible was written around 90 AD, the Book
- 38:46of Revelation. And Muhammad didn't come around
- 38:49with his story until 637 and he was around the 600 mark.
- 38:55OK, So that's, you know, 500 years later, he comes up with a
- 39:00story and he comes up from an Angel Gabriel that he says or
- 39:04tells him this. And and so it does, Jesus warned
- 39:09like if anybody, and I think the disciples said, if anybody, even
- 39:13an Angel of the Lord comes and reveals a different gospel
- 39:16message than what we have told you, that is like the it's a
- 39:22false prophet. So Muhammad is a false prophet.
- 39:26He told a different story that the story about Jesus, not the
- 39:30story but the account of Jesus was already in writing, but he
- 39:35came along and had to convince other people that he was greater
- 39:41than Jesus. He is a false prophet and he,
- 39:45anyone who believes in him is being led to slaughter.
- 39:49But they have the opportunity to report of that and to turn to
- 39:53Jesus. They don't have to do all these
- 39:55these things to earn God's Kingdom.
- 39:59They receive God's Kingdom by loving people by believing in
- 40:05Jesus, not really by loving people, but I mean that's the
- 40:08only requirement that Jesus says love one another as I have loved
- 40:11you. So that's a drastic difference
- 40:14from the way that their religion teaches and everything in love
- 40:19and not to go out and destroy and kill And you know, that's.
- 40:28Just like when you compare the two religions, it's just
- 40:33unbelievable. I just don't know if maybe the
- 40:35people who still believe in Islam, if they just don't know
- 40:40what Christianity says. So I really hope that someone
- 40:44who maybe hasn't heard about Jesus or doesn't know about
- 40:49Jesus, here's this podcast because this book of Jonah is
- 40:54really good for anyone in that in anyone of Islam, because
- 40:58obviously God sending Jonah, who is a Hebrew man to modern day
- 41:05Iraq. And if I mean, at that time,
- 41:09they weren't believers in Islam at that time, but they were
- 41:13doing wickedness. But then, you know, 500 years
- 41:16later, Muhammad gives all of this, you know, distorted Bible.
- 41:22And then he starts convincing other people that it's true.
- 41:27But he's leading people to their death.
- 41:29He's a false prophet. And hopefully the people who
- 41:33believe in Islam, the Muslims, can come to this truth.
- 41:39Pray to God that this be revealed.
- 41:42God Jesus is coming to Muslims and dreams.
- 41:45So that's awesome. That is, you know, God is going
- 41:48to extraordinary means of reaching people because God does
- 41:54love the people. God does love the Muslims.
- 41:57God wants the Muslims eyes to be opened.
- 42:01He wants them to repent of that and to follow the one true God
- 42:06and then as a result of that be in the Kingdom of God.
- 42:10So pray for our Muslim brothers and sisters because ultimately
- 42:18that's what they are. They have just they are turned
- 42:21away from God. But hopefully their eyes will be
- 42:25opened and they will see the one true God and they will recognize
- 42:30Jesus as their Savior, and which will keep them from having to do
- 42:37all the different things that they believe that they have to
- 42:39do right now to earn their way, which they don't.
- 42:44And the good news is the gospel, the message of Jesus.
