- 0:01The mind seems always to be busy and we seem to have a constant
- 0:06inner commentary about Sensations, perceptions
- 0:10memories. Anticipated activities, hopes
- 0:14and dreams and worries about situations.
- 0:17We need to address. Then there are the drives and
- 0:21Cravings such as hunger thirst or sensations of discomfort pain
- 0:27or desire. The Mind remains constantly busy
- 0:32and there seems to be no way out.
- 0:35When we sit for meditation, we find it almost impossible to get
- 0:41rid of all of this activity. And in fact, simply because we
- 0:46are sitting quietly and trying to still the mind, we become
- 0:51much more aware of the activity, and when we are involved in our
- 0:55constant round of activities externally, SRI aurobindo treats
- 1:00this as a more or less mechanical action of the mind
- 1:04and provides us various tools to address this.
- 1:09The primary Aid is the separation of the witness
- 1:11Consciousness from the active nature.
- 1:15As we shift to this new standpoint, we begin to
- 1:19experience the mechanical action of the Mind as something
- 1:23external to our awareness and thus, it becomes easier to
- 1:29either disregard it or even reject it.
- 1:34It is important. However to exercise patience any
- 1:38impatience represents the stirring of fridge Asik desire,
- 1:43which has the opposite effect and tends to disturb the Mind
- 1:47rather than quiet it. The long habit of the mechanical
- 1:51mind is not something that is resolved in a day.
- 1:57SRI aurobindo notes, quote the mind is always an activity but
- 2:02we do not observe fully what it is doing but allow ourselves to
- 2:07be carried away in the Stream of continual thinking.
- 2:11When we try to concentrate this stream of self-made mechanical
- 2:16thinking becomes prominent to our observation, it is the first
- 2:22normal obstacle. The other is sleep during
- 2:25meditation to Effort for yoga. The best thing to do is to
- 2:32realize that the thought flow is not yourself.
- 2:35It is not you who are thinking, but thought that is going on.
- 2:39In the mind, it is prakrit e with its thought energy.
- 2:44That is Raising all this world of thought in.
- 2:46You imposing it on the purusa, you as the purusa must stand
- 2:52back as the witness, observing the action, but refusing to
- 2:56identify yourself with it. The next thing is to exercise a
- 3:01control and reject the thoughts Though, sometimes by the very
- 3:06Act of Detachment, the thought, habit Falls away or diminishes
- 3:11during the meditation. And there is a sufficient
- 3:15silence or at any rate of quietude, which makes it easy to
- 3:19reject, the thoughts that come and fix oneself on the object of
- 3:24meditation. If one becomes aware of the
- 3:28thoughts, as coming from outside from the universal nature, then
- 3:33one can throw them out before they reach the mind in that way,
- 3:37the Mind finally fall silent. If neither of these things
- 3:43happens, a persistent practice of rejection becomes necessary.
- 3:49There should be no struggle or wrestling with the thought.
- 3:53But only a quiet self separation and refusal.
- 3:58Success does not come at first, but if consent is constantly
- 4:02withheld, the mechanical World eventually ceases and begins to
- 4:08die away and one can then have it.
- 4:11Will an inner quietude or silence. it should be noted that
- 4:16the result of the yogic processes is not except in rare
- 4:20cases, immediate and one must apply, the will patience till
- 4:25they give a result, which is sometimes long in coming if
- 4:29there is much resistance in the outer nature, And quote,
