- 0:00Speaker 1: Bulet keV Show. We got DJ Drama in here. Welcome
- 0:03Speaker 1: way to start. It's been a long time in the making. Yeah,
- 0:07Speaker 1: I mean I went to Atlanta during the pandemic and
- 0:09Speaker 1: we kind of did like a little generation now yep,
- 0:13Speaker 1: but yeah, you being here, Yeah, it's about fucking time.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I feel like I've been stalking you. It felt, I mean, well,
- 0:20Speaker 1: never that. I mean, you're my guy, like Yo Drama,
- 0:22Speaker 1: when you're coming on the fucking show, you're in LA
- 0:24Speaker 1: all the time. Yeah, it has, and I have been
- 0:26Speaker 1: putting it off for some time. But I have reason
- 0:28Speaker 1: to be here. I got a fucking new album, new album.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I wanted to you know what I mean. I wanted
- 0:32Speaker 1: to be I wanted to be timely and I knew
- 0:35Speaker 1: a conversation with you is you know significant. You know
- 0:39Speaker 1: what I'm saying for sure? Why I do say. DJ
- 0:42Speaker 1: Drama is the greatest hip hop DJ of all time.
- 0:44Speaker 1: It's big, the greatest of all time. I'm not saying
- 0:47Speaker 1: it's scratching and fucking transforming and shit, but you're the greatest.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Go so hold on. Let me thank you first of all.
- 0:56Speaker 1: So if they're making a for fifty years of hip
- 1:00Speaker 1: and they make a DJ list, like of the greatest
- 1:03Speaker 1: DJs in fifty years, you're putting me, I don't even
- 1:07Speaker 1: think it's a discussion. Wow, I mean it would be
- 1:12Speaker 1: hard for me to agree, humbly. I would like to
- 1:17Speaker 1: be in the top five. But if we're talking fifty years,
- 1:20Speaker 1: were talking Jazzy Jeff, we talking no, no no, no, no, Listen.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I'm talking about listen because Jazzy Jeff probably like, like,
- 1:28Speaker 1: there's guys who are really good at DJing, Yeah, party rockers,
- 1:34Speaker 1: fucking I mean, we can go on and there's like
- 1:37Speaker 1: some but I just think when I think of like
- 1:41Speaker 1: your cultural impact on the last twenty years of rap music,
- 1:46Speaker 1: it is literally not even a discussion. Nobody has ever
- 1:50Speaker 1: impacted hip hop culture as a DJ the way you have.
- 1:53Speaker 1: And I don't even think and like, listen, you can
- 1:55Speaker 1: go back to cool Herk. We'll cool Herk a DJ
- 1:58Speaker 1: or rapper. He was a DJ Okay, so we kind
- 2:00Speaker 1: of started it. Yeah, but I'm talking about bro. I'm
- 2:03Speaker 1: fucking thirty six. So when I was coming up, it
- 2:06Speaker 1: was funk flex. I had like the sixty minutes of
- 2:09Speaker 1: funk shit. I was getting DJ clue tapes and then
- 2:12Speaker 1: when I started bootlegging shit and selling shit at the
- 2:15Speaker 1: swat Me. It was like all gangster grill shit. But
- 2:17Speaker 1: we're talking about your fingerprints are all over it all
- 2:23Speaker 1: Jeezy Wayne for Rell, Gucci. You just want to fucking
- 2:28Speaker 1: Grammy with Tyler the Creator. Broh, you put a you
- 2:31Speaker 1: want to Grammy with a gangster grills? What are we
- 2:35Speaker 1: talking about? A gangster grills want to Grammy? I've done
- 2:39Speaker 1: some shit, man. I'm really like that. I really think that,
- 2:43Speaker 1: like people can say what they want, Like I mean people,
- 2:46Speaker 1: There's been even artists. There's been a guy like listen.
- 2:49Speaker 1: DJ Khaled for sure has put out bigger songs than
- 2:52Speaker 1: you as an artist, right right, But like I forget
- 2:57Speaker 1: the name of the Little Wayne DJ Khalid tape, but
- 2:59Speaker 1: it wasn't that big of a deal. It had had
- 3:02Speaker 1: a gem on there though, But you remember which tape
- 3:04Speaker 1: I'm talking about. Yeah, it was called the Fuck the
- 3:08Speaker 1: Reap or the six the Suffix six six, yeah, the suffix.
- 3:13Speaker 1: But we're talking about the Dedication shit. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 3:16Speaker 1: we're talking about dedication. We're talking you just like I mean,
- 3:19Speaker 1: even like she like Little Brothers, Gangsta Grill, just so
- 3:22Speaker 1: many like your fingerprints are everywhere, Like you just told
- 3:25Speaker 1: me a story about your first tape with Gucci? Were
- 3:30Speaker 1: you removed Nicki Minaja's verse because she wasn't popping yet?
- 3:35Speaker 1: Oh God, why are we talking about this? Nikki? I apologize?
- 3:39Speaker 1: So what happened? Me and Gucci's first actual gangster girls?
- 3:44Speaker 1: We actually did one with Yogatti first. It was called
- 3:48Speaker 1: Definition of a g That was the first tape me
- 3:50Speaker 1: and Gucci had did together. It was collaboration Gotti, Gucci
- 3:55Speaker 1: and me. The first official Gucci man Gangster Grills was
- 4:00Speaker 1: called the Movie. And when he brought it to me,
- 4:03Speaker 1: the first song that was for the tape, the first
- 4:08Speaker 1: voice you heard on the on the tape was Nicki Minaj.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Obviously this is an early Nicki Minaj and disrespectfully, you know,
- 4:20Speaker 1: I felt like we can't have a gangst of girls
- 4:23Speaker 1: with me and Gucci and the first voice you hear
- 4:26Speaker 1: not be Gucci, So I removed her her verse from
- 4:31Speaker 1: that song. I feel terrible to this day. Did she
- 4:35Speaker 1: did she know it was your decision? I don't know
- 4:39Speaker 1: she she may know now, But in defense, I will
- 4:43Speaker 1: say that I made sure out of everyone that Nicki
- 4:48Speaker 1: Minaj was on Dedication three because Nicki Minaj was about
- 4:52Speaker 1: to get left off of Dedication three. She was calling
- 4:56Speaker 1: me directly, say Drum please, don't won't let the tape
- 5:00Speaker 1: come out without me on there, And I said, I
- 5:03Speaker 1: got you. So Nicki Minaj is on Dedication three directly
- 5:07Speaker 1: because I made sure she was on there, so you
- 5:10Speaker 1: got it. It came back. I'm trying to make it up.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I'm trying to, you know, did anyone ever hear the
- 5:16Speaker 1: Nikki verse that you remember? Did you ever use it
- 5:18Speaker 1: anywhere else? Did that? I don't. I really don't know.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I don't know whatever came from that. We'd have to
- 5:25Speaker 1: probably ask Gucci, do you still have like your og
- 5:27Speaker 1: email access? I wish I had a gangster grills dot
- 5:31Speaker 1: Com Gmail that it was probably just some shit in there,
- 5:35Speaker 1: probably so crazy. I used to get these fucking beats
- 5:39Speaker 1: from this like random email from like it was like
- 5:44Speaker 1: a boy idea or something like. I was like, who
- 5:48Speaker 1: is this boy idea sending me all these beats like
- 5:52Speaker 1: in like oh five oh six used to flood my
- 5:55Speaker 1: email because you know how to pronounce the names weird
- 5:57Speaker 1: name and now looking wanted to I've told him that
- 6:01Speaker 1: I've definitely we've talked about that like shit was crazy, Yeah,
- 6:04Speaker 1: because I just think about like even the last two
- 6:07Speaker 1: or three years, the research, Like if you think about it,
- 6:10Speaker 1: we went through this weird cycle where the blogs would
- 6:13Speaker 1: drop the no DJ version of mixtapes as well as
- 6:15Speaker 1: the DJ versions of mixtapes, and I remember you having
- 6:17Speaker 1: an issue with that and I felt used, yeah, because
- 6:22Speaker 1: they would use the Gangster Grills brand, yeah to like
- 6:25Speaker 1: launch it and then like a week later and it
- 6:27Speaker 1: would drop like a no DJ version without your shit
- 6:29Speaker 1: on it, Like what the fuck? But now we like
- 6:32Speaker 1: kind of like came back around. Now everybody is getting
- 6:36Speaker 1: the Gangster Grills and they're dropping them on DSPs, Like
- 6:39Speaker 1: I mean, shout out to Geeperico. You guys just dropped
- 6:41Speaker 1: that one. There was a day recently where I feel
- 6:44Speaker 1: like you had three tapes come out on one day,
- 6:47Speaker 1: and one day I dropped GZ Snowfall Snoop an NBA
- 6:51Speaker 1: Young Boy. That was crazy, Like I was like on that.
- 6:55Speaker 1: That was like right after I won DJ of the
- 6:57Speaker 1: Year or two at the Hip Hop Awards. I was like, Oh, yeah,
- 7:00Speaker 1: I'm coming. I'm coming for the next Year's a word,
- 7:03Speaker 1: how like how much do you feel like because if
- 7:06Speaker 1: people don't know you're also you Lake and Don have
- 7:10Speaker 1: cultivated a label called Generation Now that has two of
- 7:14Speaker 1: the biggest superstars in hip hop period at the moment,
- 7:17Speaker 1: Jack Harlan little uzzy. Yes, so you've obviously been busy. Yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 1: you've been putting. You've also put out records. You've been
- 7:26Speaker 1: you've been listening. It's like you never went anywhere. But
- 7:27Speaker 1: do you feel like the Tyler album sparked the Gangster
- 7:34Speaker 1: Grills resurgence? Thousand thousand percent. Gotta gotta tip your head
- 7:39Speaker 1: off to you know, I saw something and say, like,
- 7:42Speaker 1: of all people, who would have thought Tyler creator, who
- 7:46Speaker 1: if people have called a weirdo for thus long, would
- 7:50Speaker 1: bring gangster Grills back to life? Like yeah, I mean one,
- 7:54Speaker 1: just the ingenious idea of him, of the concept of
- 7:59Speaker 1: him making his album a Gangster Girls and utilizing me
- 8:02Speaker 1: the way it did. And two obviously us winning a Grammy,
- 8:05Speaker 1: Like come on, you can't you can't deny like Tyler
- 8:09Speaker 1: had a lot to do with it. And I still
- 8:11Speaker 1: think that that, Like, you know, just even recently I
- 8:14Speaker 1: saw like Benny and Westside Gun make some references like yo,
- 8:18Speaker 1: we got drama out of his executive bag. Like, you know,
- 8:21Speaker 1: even before Tyler, I had I had you, I had
- 8:24Speaker 1: tod be a ship. I did some Ship on Guns projects,
- 8:27Speaker 1: so you know, there were some other projects you know,
- 8:31Speaker 1: out there. So I think like there, you know, clearly,
- 8:35Speaker 1: like as a brand, Gangster Girls was still strong. But
- 8:37Speaker 1: I think, you know, the the response and just what
- 8:42Speaker 1: Tyler's album did, like really, that's we have a lot
- 8:47Speaker 1: to thank for that for sure, like or even a
- 8:50Speaker 1: jeezy Snowfall like that was in the works, by the way,
- 8:53Speaker 1: the best g Z album. And I don't know what
- 8:55Speaker 1: we're taking ten years sometime, it's been it's been a while. Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 1: we were in New York riding around listening in that ship.
- 9:00Speaker 1: When it came out, I was like, god, damn Jesu
- 9:02Speaker 1: back on his ship. Yeah, nah, I had that feel.
- 9:05Speaker 1: And then you guys are doing the shows together. Yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 1: that was fun. That was that was dope. That was
- 9:09Speaker 1: a good time. So when Tyler hits you up, because
- 9:11Speaker 1: obviously you're you're you're extremely culturally aware, I don't like
- 9:16Speaker 1: I feel like some people might think, oh, DJ Drama
- 9:18Speaker 1: just knows what was popping in the strip club whatever,
- 9:20Speaker 1: but like, you know, what's up, So like Tyler reaches
- 9:23Speaker 1: out to you. I'm sure you know how big this
- 9:25Speaker 1: can be because Igor was huge. Oh yeah, I mean
- 9:28Speaker 1: without question. I mean I remember, you know, because we
- 9:34Speaker 1: started it in twenty twenty during the pandemic. So I
- 9:37Speaker 1: was doing like zoom interviews and calls, and I knew
- 9:41Speaker 1: it was it was coming, and like you know, obviously
- 9:45Speaker 1: I couldn't talk about it, but I was like, you know,
- 9:46Speaker 1: I got some big shit coming. No. I think during
- 9:49Speaker 1: our interview you were like alluded to something coming, Yeah,
- 9:51Speaker 1: but you can talk. I couldn't talk about it. But
- 9:53Speaker 1: Lake even the session that he came to Lake. Lake
- 9:56Speaker 1: came to the second session we did. We did like
- 9:59Speaker 1: three or four. His first was the second session, and
- 10:03Speaker 1: when he heard the music like off top, he was like, Yo,
- 10:06Speaker 1: your niggas going want to grammy for this, Like he
- 10:08Speaker 1: said it just playing in simple, clear as day, like
- 10:12Speaker 1: your niggas going want to grammy? And like he called it,
- 10:15Speaker 1: are the songs already done? And then you get brought
- 10:17Speaker 1: in to like collaborate with him on like the shit
- 10:20Speaker 1: you're gonna say, like what's that process? Like album's done?
- 10:23Speaker 1: And then you come in after or are you like
- 10:25Speaker 1: in there when he's recording any verses Like, yeah, for
- 10:27Speaker 1: the most part, it was done. I mean, Tyler's so
- 10:33Speaker 1: genius and creative, like he had already even when he
- 10:36Speaker 1: first came up with the idea, he had taken random
- 10:40Speaker 1: DJ drama vocals from like another project and they put
- 10:43Speaker 1: him on there, placed it on like where he thought
- 10:46Speaker 1: I should talk or what it would sound like, just
- 10:48Speaker 1: so he could hear it, and then like you know,
- 10:50Speaker 1: we we vibed a lot, like we sat in the
- 10:52Speaker 1: studio and talked and just talked music and you know,
- 10:56Speaker 1: vision and things like that. He told me, you know
- 10:58Speaker 1: what his what the concept and where he wanted to
- 11:01Speaker 1: go and just about life the last couple of years.
- 11:04Speaker 1: And you know that's literally how I like to work too,
- 11:08Speaker 1: like a lot of you know what I what I
- 11:10Speaker 1: like to say on projects or you know, the direction
- 11:14Speaker 1: I go. I like to work off of you know,
- 11:16Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like it's an art in its
- 11:18Speaker 1: own sense, so you know, I work off of inspiration.
- 11:23Speaker 1: And then yeah, I would go into booth and I
- 11:26Speaker 1: would I would say some ship and play around and
- 11:28Speaker 1: then he would like kind of like be like yo,
- 11:30Speaker 1: like say like I'm on the boat and I'd be
- 11:33Speaker 1: like a boat, like, oh my god's frock crazy and
- 11:36Speaker 1: like you know, talk about like having my toes out
- 11:41Speaker 1: and shit like that. So you know, he was that.
- 11:44Speaker 1: That was one that you know, a lot of times
- 11:46Speaker 1: when I do tapes, I normally like to do them
- 11:49Speaker 1: in my own zone. But obviously it was like collaborative,
- 11:52Speaker 1: very collaborative. And but you know, I mean he's a
- 11:55Speaker 1: he's a one man army, so you know, production like everything,
- 12:00Speaker 1: he does it all. So a lot of a lot
- 12:02Speaker 1: of it he had had done, but then during the
- 12:05Speaker 1: session some of the music changed. But even while I
- 12:08Speaker 1: was in there, he was still kind of like working
- 12:10Speaker 1: on production and you know, going in and things like that.
- 12:13Speaker 1: It's crazy too, because one of your more underappreciated projects
- 12:17Speaker 1: was the one with Pharreal. It's like kind of a
- 12:19Speaker 1: cult classic, but that kind of ended up being like
- 12:22Speaker 1: the there's no call me if you get lost, if
- 12:24Speaker 1: there's no far Real tape. Yeah, but it's but you know,
- 12:29Speaker 1: to me or in my travels, like the way Dedication
- 12:34Speaker 1: and Trapp or Die is to certain people, the forar
- 12:37Speaker 1: Real tape is to certain people, like I've had a
- 12:40Speaker 1: lot of it's like a cult classic. It is and
- 12:43Speaker 1: I've had a lot of a lot of people from
- 12:46Speaker 1: a certain like you know, like hipster kids or just
- 12:50Speaker 1: like you know, not not the what you would think
- 12:55Speaker 1: the normal gangster girls listener like come up and like yo,
- 12:58Speaker 1: that forar real tape changed my life, Like the Arrow
- 13:00Speaker 1: gangst the Grills was like it was this for me,
- 13:03Speaker 1: like so an artist too, Like that was definitely one
- 13:06Speaker 1: of those ones. And obviously that was a big inspiration
- 13:10Speaker 1: for somebody like Tyler growing up. So yeah, that was
- 13:13Speaker 1: that was that was a big That was a big
- 13:15Speaker 1: tape for me. I mean because you know, at the time,
- 13:18Speaker 1: Farou was already like a god, you know what I'm saying.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Of course, so when he was on a skateboard p vibes,
- 13:24Speaker 1: Like when when I got that phone call, Like yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 1: I think you know that. I think that's the only
- 13:28Speaker 1: mixtape he's ever done in his career, you know what
- 13:31Speaker 1: I'm saying. So for us for me to be a
- 13:34Speaker 1: part of that, and when I got that call and
- 13:36Speaker 1: then just like you know, just that's that's one of
- 13:39Speaker 1: those tapes that definitely is one of the greatest ever,
- 13:42Speaker 1: Like you know, the way it's put together, the zone
- 13:44Speaker 1: I was in, like this shit was incredible for you.
- 13:50Speaker 1: How because I'm assuming nowadays if a major label artist
- 13:54Speaker 1: wants against the grills, one you have to fuck with
- 13:56Speaker 1: the music, but two they have to have the back
- 13:59Speaker 1: they're not getting against the grills, I'm assuming is that
- 14:02Speaker 1: fair to say? Or you have to be cutting on
- 14:05Speaker 1: the project in some aspect? Yeah, the way that I mean,
- 14:09Speaker 1: because like things have changed, Uh in the music business.
- 14:15Speaker 1: It's not the same way it used to be. No,
- 14:16Speaker 1: it's not the same way. So there's you know, the
- 14:20Speaker 1: way that we approached the business has changed and elevated.
- 14:26Speaker 1: The cost of a gangster grills is not what it
- 14:30Speaker 1: was in the mid two thousand. But you get a cut,
- 14:33Speaker 1: I get, I get more. You should get something, yeah,
- 14:36Speaker 1: published there's more than just a check involved, right right,
- 14:39Speaker 1: for sure, some residual income there absolutely in the In
- 14:42Speaker 1: your peak, though, what was the biggest bag you ever
- 14:45Speaker 1: got to do a gangst the grills because you had
- 14:48Speaker 1: some random ass gangster grills floating around? Yeah, I did,
- 14:53Speaker 1: and it was obviously like I know what this one was.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I think it probably was, to be honest, it probably
- 14:58Speaker 1: came from an athlete. It probably was like a good
- 15:02Speaker 1: like in in the earlier days. It was it was
- 15:05Speaker 1: maybe like a forty piece or something like forty against
- 15:08Speaker 1: the Girls? Was it for like the athletes rapper? Yeah?
- 15:11Speaker 1: Was this what's your athlete? Carmelo Anthony? I did do one.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I did it. I actually did do one for Carmelo
- 15:19Speaker 1: sounds about. It wasn't that one. But I've done some.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I've done some very notable remember thing going, yeah, we
- 15:27Speaker 1: never did again by that point, I don't. Katie never
- 15:31Speaker 1: came to me for Against the Grills, but shot the
- 15:36Speaker 1: KD doing Jackson. But yeah, I've done you know, Jason Terry,
- 15:42Speaker 1: Deshaun Jackson, Jason Terry, Sante Samuels, uh Meta shot the
- 15:48Speaker 1: Metal World Peace Round. Our test has a Gangster Girls
- 15:52Speaker 1: where he's actually rapping on the course, of course he
- 15:55Speaker 1: does Steven Stephen Jackson, Yeah, he was. Yeah, we got some.
- 16:01Speaker 1: There's some more out there too. You were running it,
- 16:05Speaker 1: you know, actually fun, a fun time. Indeed, my boy
- 16:08Speaker 1: Vi the Ruler, I know, had one early from you,
- 16:10Speaker 1: like from Phoenix, and I know he paid for it.
- 16:13Speaker 1: But VI's like my dog, so I remember, like I
- 16:16Speaker 1: hosted his next tape and he's like, yeah, I got
- 16:17Speaker 1: a whole project with DJ Drama. I'm like, DJ Drama
- 16:21Speaker 1: knows you though, but that was probably what was that
- 16:24Speaker 1: like twenty thirteen twelve? Okay, but yeah, man, so this
- 16:29Speaker 1: new album, you got the new single with Hey Boogie
- 16:32Speaker 1: Wholse one single, little Baby, Little Baby, and a what's
- 16:36Speaker 1: the name of the album. I'm really like that. I'm
- 16:39Speaker 1: really like that. Yeah for you? Are you taking like?
- 16:43Speaker 1: Cause there is one thing about DJ projects that can
- 16:49Speaker 1: get hairy, and usually they don't sound very cohesive. Usually
- 16:53Speaker 1: it just sounds like songs. It's like a bunch of
- 16:55Speaker 1: songs crammed in with the hottest of hot. It's not
- 16:57Speaker 1: very cohesive. You gets hit sing off of them. But
- 17:01Speaker 1: if I'm pressing play from start to finish. That's why
- 17:03Speaker 1: I got to give it up to Metro Booming. And
- 17:04Speaker 1: I know he's not a DJ as a producer, yeah,
- 17:06Speaker 1: but the way he curated his album in credible, it's
- 17:08Speaker 1: fucking insane. What approach did you take for this? Something similar?
- 17:11Speaker 1: Where I wanted to make a cohesive body of work
- 17:14Speaker 1: from beginning to end, where it was an album not
- 17:18Speaker 1: of just songs, but you know, something that people would
- 17:22Speaker 1: put on at the top and you know, let a
- 17:26Speaker 1: ride and like you know, interesting collaborations, not just necessarily
- 17:32Speaker 1: like Chase names, like you know, just artists that I
- 17:36Speaker 1: think are dope, that I would love and wanted to
- 17:39Speaker 1: hear together and like you know, great voices and great
- 17:42Speaker 1: production and like you know, really make a good body
- 17:45Speaker 1: of work. I feel like this is my best body
- 17:47Speaker 1: of work since Quality Street Music. My Quality Stream Music won,
- 17:52Speaker 1: which came out about ten years ago. So that was
- 17:57Speaker 1: was not the one that had the Jeremi record, the
- 17:59Speaker 1: jem My rack. No, that was yeah, yep, yeah my moment, Yeah,
- 18:07Speaker 1: my moment, that was right, and that was ten years ago.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Yeah fuck man, I'm old as fuck. Yeah, that was
- 18:14Speaker 1: my moment was on there. We had a lot of
- 18:16Speaker 1: we had some gems on there. Yeah. For you though,
- 18:19Speaker 1: like it's crazy because with all your success, right you
- 18:22Speaker 1: have like you see a guy like DJ Khaled who's
- 18:26Speaker 1: put out like these gigantic anthems. Meanwhile you have like
- 18:31Speaker 1: you have gems, you got like dope records, like you
- 18:34Speaker 1: got plaques as a DJ. But you also as to
- 18:38Speaker 1: where like maybe we the best didn't necessarily work out
- 18:40Speaker 1: too crazy on the artists, ie, you got generation now,
- 18:42Speaker 1: which is like man, fuck, kudos to you. Guys, why
- 18:48Speaker 1: do you think like you never really reached the heights
- 18:52Speaker 1: as a solo DJ because there was a point in
- 18:54Speaker 1: time where you were on Atlantic and then you ended
- 18:56Speaker 1: up at coch right mm, and you had some really
- 19:00Speaker 1: want but you had some really big records that maybe
- 19:02Speaker 1: just weren't like I feel like we're slept on or
- 19:07Speaker 1: didn't like pop in the way that maybe I thought
- 19:09Speaker 1: they should have. Like why do you think that is?
- 19:14Speaker 1: I don't know, that's a good question. I mean, are
- 19:16Speaker 1: you saying in comparison to call it or just in
- 19:18Speaker 1: my own just in your like, like I feel like
- 19:21Speaker 1: you had records that could have been fucking number one records. Yeah,
- 19:25Speaker 1: I mean, I you know, I definitely had some records
- 19:28Speaker 1: that Charter that did amazing for me. My Moment was
- 19:32Speaker 1: one of them. Wishing was another one that was a
- 19:34Speaker 1: big record. Yeah, you know what I mean at that
- 19:38Speaker 1: space or point in my career. You know, I'm kind
- 19:41Speaker 1: of like in comparison, like I'm more of a reserve
- 19:46Speaker 1: type of person like obviously Kali. It is a very personality,
- 19:50Speaker 1: very big personality, you know what I'm saying that and
- 19:53Speaker 1: that that took him to like amazing heights and you know,
- 19:56Speaker 1: I tip my hat off to him, kudos to like
- 19:59Speaker 1: all his success. But you know, like for me, like
- 20:02Speaker 1: there was just my my route and you know how
- 20:06Speaker 1: I attacked the game was a little it was it
- 20:10Speaker 1: was over here, you know. But but I think that
- 20:12Speaker 1: was dope about it is that you know, there's a
- 20:15Speaker 1: there's like obviously there's room and there's space for both
- 20:19Speaker 1: of us to be these these dominant figures and like
- 20:23Speaker 1: go to people that can inspire other DJs, you know,
- 20:27Speaker 1: want to be the next Calid or you guys are
- 20:30Speaker 1: like the bar for sure, you know. And like for me,
- 20:33Speaker 1: it was like, you know, even outside of just my records,
- 20:36Speaker 1: it was like all right, I'm still putting out tapes
- 20:39Speaker 1: out of classics through those years, like whether it was
- 20:42Speaker 1: fab or whether it was was so good there Korean Chasers,
- 20:46Speaker 1: you know, Childish Gambino tape, like Jeremiah tape, like you know,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I was even during that time, you know, I did
- 20:55Speaker 1: Little Baby's tape, like you know, I got some ships,
- 20:58Speaker 1: So there was about the Childish Gamping. There was a
- 21:00Speaker 1: lot of ship that I was I was doing. I
- 21:03Speaker 1: was you know, building mean street studios which became like
- 21:06Speaker 1: a hub for you know, everything that was going on
- 21:08Speaker 1: in the culture in Atlanta when we were doing with
- 21:11Speaker 1: Generation Now, like cultivating Uzzie's career and Jack's career. Like
- 21:15Speaker 1: you know, I just I wore a lot of hats,
- 21:17Speaker 1: so you know, for me, it was like this is
- 21:20Speaker 1: my lane. You know, I'm not trying to beat anybody else,
- 21:23Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Like, this is DJ drama,
- 21:26Speaker 1: and this is how I approached and attack the game.
- 21:29Speaker 1: And you know what I mean, it was like, Hey,
- 21:31Speaker 1: I'm I'm gonna go for what mine, you know, and
- 21:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna make a name for myself and and be
- 21:35Speaker 1: you know, the greatest and you know, go down in history.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Is arguably one of, if not the greatest DJ of
- 21:42Speaker 1: all time. Yeah, for sure. For you obviously, a guy
- 21:47Speaker 1: like Uzzi is you know, if he's on the show,
- 21:50Speaker 1: he's headlined in the fucking roll, he's he is having
- 21:53Speaker 1: a moment. Yeah again, for sure. Over and over he
- 21:56Speaker 1: has these moments where it's like, no, Uzzi's fucking superstar,
- 21:59Speaker 1: rock star for real, for real. You guys had kind
- 22:03Speaker 1: of gotten into like a weird patch in your relationship,
- 22:05Speaker 1: which I'm sure happens a lot when artists sign and
- 22:10Speaker 1: like I sympathize with kind of the label side. It's like,
- 22:15Speaker 1: you know, you put all these resources behind the guy.
- 22:18Speaker 1: You kind of put it, put all the chips onto somebody,
- 22:20Speaker 1: and once they pop, you know, they start to be like, well,
- 22:23Speaker 1: you know what the fuck? You guys seem to have
- 22:26Speaker 1: gotten over whatever weird hump you had, because I see
- 22:28Speaker 1: pictures you guys together. What's your guys' relationship? Now? It's
- 22:30Speaker 1: great till we got over the hump. You know, we're
- 22:35Speaker 1: back in in a great working space and a great
- 22:38Speaker 1: personal space. Him and Cannon of working you know, very
- 22:43Speaker 1: very hard on the pink tape looking forward to that
- 22:47Speaker 1: and you know, like it like it's family's bicker, you
- 22:52Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, And like you said, like you know,
- 22:54Speaker 1: sometimes it plays out in the public, sometimes it doesn't.
- 22:57Speaker 1: And you know, like for us, you know, obviously again
- 23:00Speaker 1: like you said, we've put so much time and invested
- 23:03Speaker 1: so much and like you know, his success is our success.
- 23:07Speaker 1: So even at a space and time where we may
- 23:10Speaker 1: differ or you know, I don't agree or have another
- 23:15Speaker 1: opinion on it, it's like it's it's a rock in
- 23:18Speaker 1: our place because it's like, you know, the bigger is absolutely,
- 23:22Speaker 1: so you know it's kind of like you just gotta
- 23:24Speaker 1: you know, roll with the punches and and you know,
- 23:27Speaker 1: keep putting that work in. You know. Obviously for us
- 23:30Speaker 1: a great thing that happened too when we were getting
- 23:33Speaker 1: a lot of the brunt of the you know, bad
- 23:38Speaker 1: publicity or bad press, like with the rock Nation situation
- 23:42Speaker 1: and all that shit, it was like Jack Carlow came
- 23:45Speaker 1: and it was like, Okay, these guys really know what
- 23:47Speaker 1: they're doing. Like shout out to Sati Hendrix too, you
- 23:49Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So, you know, and we've we've
- 23:53Speaker 1: been quite successful and you know what I mean. And
- 23:56Speaker 1: and honestly, like I've been in the game so long
- 23:58Speaker 1: and it's like I've whether it's so many storms. So
- 24:01Speaker 1: even with the Verse Ship, it's like, you know, I'm
- 24:05Speaker 1: you you hope and you you know, foresee, like, yo,
- 24:09Speaker 1: we'll get past this. What was like the catalyst to
- 24:11Speaker 1: you guys kind of repairing the relationship time? Yeah, yeah, time,
- 24:17Speaker 1: it was you know, just coming you know, coming back,
- 24:21Speaker 1: and you know, I guess just like after a couple
- 24:26Speaker 1: of years of things kind of like letting it play out,
- 24:30Speaker 1: it's just you know, we got back in a good space.
- 24:32Speaker 1: And again you know we were we were moving and
- 24:35Speaker 1: grooving like generation now, Like you see this guy right here,
- 24:40Speaker 1: Jack Harlow. We got some things going. I never understood
- 24:45Speaker 1: the rock Nation thing because I always thought to myself, like,
- 24:48Speaker 1: it's not like you Lake and Don Cannon aren't of
- 24:51Speaker 1: the culture. Are who the fuck you are? Say it again?
- 24:55Speaker 1: So I was like, Yo, say it again, why are
- 24:58Speaker 1: Why is it rock Nation that try to pull people
- 25:00Speaker 1: out of deals from like actual culture vultures? Say it
- 25:04Speaker 1: DJ Drama like like you're trying to fucking pull my
- 25:07Speaker 1: guy out of like like he's like he found this kid.
- 25:09Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Like DJ Drama did not
- 25:12Speaker 1: pay Bootleg keV to make such an accurate statement. Nah.
- 25:18Speaker 1: As soon as that happened, I was like, there's people
- 25:22Speaker 1: who you should advocate to get out of deals. Say
- 25:24Speaker 1: it again, but we're talking about Don Cannon, Drama and Lake.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Come on, bro, like three young black successful men who
- 25:35Speaker 1: met in college at the age of eighteen and nineteen
- 25:40Speaker 1: HBCUs by the way and made a name for themselves
- 25:44Speaker 1: within the hip hop culture for two decades, paving the
- 25:48Speaker 1: way and putting on and providing for the culture, Like, huh,
- 25:54Speaker 1: anybody that should have been embraced or it should have
- 25:57Speaker 1: the way it played out that I see them advocating
- 26:01Speaker 1: to like get a Meek Mill released off at Atlantic
- 26:04Speaker 1: after he complained about how he didn't like his deal. Right,
- 26:09Speaker 1: this shit doesn't a shout out to Uzy. He's a
- 26:11Speaker 1: fucking legend. Absolutely. How's the pink tape sounding? It's dope. Yeah,
- 26:16Speaker 1: it's a lot of songs. I know they're trying to,
- 26:19Speaker 1: you know, get them down to a like a good
- 26:22Speaker 1: solid I don't want to say a number, but they
- 26:28Speaker 1: got a lot of music. They got a lot of music.
- 26:30Speaker 1: So you making this proclamation that just want to rock
- 26:34Speaker 1: is the new Philly anthem. I think only would have
- 26:37Speaker 1: actually worked out if you guys won the super Bowl.
- 26:39Speaker 1: It fucked me up when we lost. It fucked me
- 26:42Speaker 1: up because I booked you that night. I was like,
- 26:44Speaker 1: we got drama. We better have the Eagle celebration party.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Let's go fucking man, fucking Patrick Mahomes and his boy that.
- 26:53Speaker 1: I put my foot in my mouth on that one.
- 26:56Speaker 1: But everybody keeps leaving out. I said this year, like
- 26:58Speaker 1: I said this year. But yeah, that was a viral moment. Yeah,
- 27:03Speaker 1: that was fun. What did you see in Like, first
- 27:06Speaker 1: of all, how did you actually find Jack Harlowe? Because
- 27:09Speaker 1: all these like old videos of him being twelve and
- 27:12Speaker 1: rapping like went viral like like a year or two ago,
- 27:14Speaker 1: and it was so funny. Oh, this little moucker was
- 27:16Speaker 1: rapping with Yeah, how did you like actually like discover
- 27:20Speaker 1: a kid? A little white dude by all means kind
- 27:23Speaker 1: of a little nerdy dude in Louisville. So I had
- 27:26Speaker 1: a homeboy come to the studio one day and just
- 27:29Speaker 1: say his name to me, and I went on Instagram
- 27:33Speaker 1: and just like immediately followed him, and Jack saw me
- 27:37Speaker 1: follow him, and he like followed me back, and he
- 27:40Speaker 1: wound up later telling me like he told his homeboy like, yo,
- 27:43Speaker 1: DJ Drama just followed me Like, damn, I'm gonna sign
- 27:46Speaker 1: a Drama. And there's a very legendary engineer that we've
- 27:50Speaker 1: worked with throughout my career who's mixed a bunch of
- 27:56Speaker 1: my records as well. There's a lot of classics including
- 27:58Speaker 1: Dreams and Nightmares, worked with Waka, worked with Two Chains.
- 28:02Speaker 1: His name is k y Ky Engineering, So yeah, he
- 28:06Speaker 1: has you know ky Engineering day tag. Yeah, So his
- 28:10Speaker 1: name is Ka why because he's from Kentucky. And around
- 28:14Speaker 1: the same time that I had found out about Jack,
- 28:17Speaker 1: he was also working with Jack and he told Lake like, Yo,
- 28:22Speaker 1: I got something I want to bring to you. You know,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I just want to get it to a certain space.
- 28:26Speaker 1: So he was, you know, he was putting a bug
- 28:29Speaker 1: in Lake's ear about Jack. So it kind of like
- 28:32Speaker 1: literally happened around the same time. And then Jack just
- 28:36Speaker 1: one one day found his way to main streets and
- 28:39Speaker 1: then you know, I heard he was in the building
- 28:42Speaker 1: and we like we met and we sat down and
- 28:44Speaker 1: we chopped it up. We talked music and life and
- 28:47Speaker 1: movies and shit like that, and you know, I was
- 28:50Speaker 1: I was just impressed. And then you know, we came
- 28:52Speaker 1: to the table, like you know, we had a meeting
- 28:55Speaker 1: and all parties, you know, came to the agreement that
- 28:59Speaker 1: we wanted to them. It's crazy too, because I do
- 29:02Speaker 1: feel like you guys have kind of gone the old
- 29:04Speaker 1: school route of like actually developing artists. Yeah, that's how
- 29:08Speaker 1: we like to do it. We like to get involved
- 29:11Speaker 1: like in the early stage of their career and like,
- 29:15Speaker 1: you know, be part of artist development. We don't nobody's
- 29:19Speaker 1: doing that, Like I don't. Like I remember, like Jack
- 29:22Speaker 1: was just on like these little indie tours Dark Knight
- 29:26Speaker 1: when we signed them. So it's kind of crazy like
- 29:29Speaker 1: in an era where everybody's signing bullshit because it's viral.
- 29:33Speaker 1: You guys have kind of taken the opposite approach and
- 29:35Speaker 1: read the benefits. I mean, it's paid off. Like we
- 29:38Speaker 1: have you know, we have generational artists, like we have
- 29:41Speaker 1: fucking superstars, you know what I'm saying. So, you know,
- 29:45Speaker 1: like we were talking, it's quality over quantity, you know.
- 29:48Speaker 1: And and then there are times when to be honest
- 29:51Speaker 1: within us ourselves as a label, like we we discuss
- 29:56Speaker 1: and like analyze like about signing more you know, more
- 30:01Speaker 1: more quantity than we we might do at the level
- 30:05Speaker 1: we are now. So but you know when we when
- 30:08Speaker 1: we signed something like we really believe in it and
- 30:11Speaker 1: you know we we we put that time in and
- 30:13Speaker 1: our artists are like you know, artists that are gonna
- 30:17Speaker 1: be here, you know what I'm saying. Did you guys
- 30:18Speaker 1: ever try to sign EStG We did? And so that
- 30:22Speaker 1: so you guys are a part of that whole. Was
- 30:24Speaker 1: it like a bidding war or no? To be honest,
- 30:29Speaker 1: Lake and one of our an r's Royce Monroe. Royce
- 30:35Speaker 1: was was pretty much uh engineering E s TG. He
- 30:40Speaker 1: did a lot of his early stuff at Mean Streets
- 30:43Speaker 1: and he was he was in the building like the
- 30:46Speaker 1: entire time. And Lake also wanted to sign E. S
- 30:51Speaker 1: T to the label. The way we were trying to
- 30:56Speaker 1: go around to structure the deal wasn't exactly what EStG
- 31:03Speaker 1: was looking for at the time. And the way not
- 31:07Speaker 1: Nigel shot the Nigel you know, Nage was who was
- 31:11Speaker 1: an R at Atlantic at a time, you know, used
- 31:14Speaker 1: to be a Mean Streets all the time. He came
- 31:16Speaker 1: to Mean Streets, met G and went and took him
- 31:21Speaker 1: to Gatti. So that's how it happened. Yeah, and then
- 31:23Speaker 1: there's like the legendary video yogat. Yeah. I feel like
- 31:26Speaker 1: anytime you signed a CMG, you just get a pile
- 31:28Speaker 1: of cash. Yeah, like a big ass chain and cash
- 31:30Speaker 1: and all that. So you know, I mean, everything happens
- 31:32Speaker 1: for a reason. You know, I can't front like G
- 31:36Speaker 1: is definitely somebody that like for me, I'm like, damn,
- 31:39Speaker 1: I wish you wouldn't get that. Yeah, yeah, yeah for sure,
- 31:41Speaker 1: because anybody else who was like kind of like at
- 31:43Speaker 1: the finish line but just didn't for whatever reason ended
- 31:45Speaker 1: up working out. They made a choice to go somewhere
- 31:46Speaker 1: else or Yeah, there's people, there's there's there's various people
- 31:51Speaker 1: like you know, early on we were we were interested
- 31:55Speaker 1: in signing Tory Lanes. Who else was there? You know,
- 32:01Speaker 1: we were? I was, I was there early on in
- 32:04Speaker 1: Amigo's career, OT Genesis O T Yeah, Yeah, we wanted
- 32:10Speaker 1: to sign OT Yeah. T Fly, Yeah, we wanted to
- 32:17Speaker 1: sign T Fly. You know what, you guys, we wanted
- 32:19Speaker 1: to sign problem that you guys. You guys had scheme.
- 32:24Speaker 1: We had scheme still generation now shout out to my guy.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Scheme to Duke Man. Scheme was scheme our first Yeah,
- 32:31Speaker 1: the first person we ever signed scheme scheme. Are you
- 32:36Speaker 1: guys actively always trying to sign artists because you have
- 32:38Speaker 1: you do have a roster of artists that you are
- 32:40Speaker 1: to I mean, there's a guy like Sadi Hendricks who
- 32:42Speaker 1: has just been kind of just putting in that grind
- 32:44Speaker 1: and just continuously staying consistent, leveling up slowly, you know
- 32:48Speaker 1: what I'm saying, putting out quality music. Sunny Digital, Sunny Digital.
- 32:52Speaker 1: I didn't know Sonny Digital was, Yeah, Sunny Digital Generation.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Now he has a project coming out. We have a
- 32:58Speaker 1: female artist, Carvenah that we've been developing. She's super fire.
- 33:03Speaker 1: And then we have some we have some new artists.
- 33:05Speaker 1: You guys gotta grab someone from l A. Yeah, from
- 33:09Speaker 1: Detroit and Detroit. I feel like Detroit's you gotta get
- 33:14Speaker 1: somebody from Detroit. Bro. Yeah, I'm open. Listen, hit my line.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Don't let y'all sign baby Tron away from Gazi. Hit
- 33:21Speaker 1: my line. And we have we have where we're in
- 33:25Speaker 1: the process of uh rebooting the management company on Generation
- 33:30Speaker 1: Now too. So we got some some dope, uh some
- 33:34Speaker 1: some dope people on the roster too that we're gonna
- 33:36Speaker 1: out soon. Let will tell it from Taylor Gang. Uzzi
- 33:40Speaker 1: was almost Taylor Gang. If you let Will tell it,
- 33:43Speaker 1: how does he tell it? He just said we almost
- 33:46Speaker 1: had Uzzi. I think it was like it would have
- 33:48Speaker 1: been like a Generation Now Taylor Gang thing. I don't know,
- 33:51Speaker 1: was that ever like close to actually happening, because you guys,
- 33:54Speaker 1: you're on every fucking Whiskyly fotour that ever happens. So
- 33:57Speaker 1: it's a family thing. Shout out to shout out to
- 33:59Speaker 1: Will and they the guys and all those guys. Was
- 34:01Speaker 1: that ever like a thing that was close to it.
- 34:03Speaker 1: It was a family situation. I mean basically, you know,
- 34:06Speaker 1: first time I ever heard Uzzi, by the way, was
- 34:08Speaker 1: in Title Sign's dressing or hotel room in Boston, like
- 34:12Speaker 1: fucking I don't know how many years ago. He was
- 34:14Speaker 1: just playing a shit on sound. Oh what the fuck
- 34:16Speaker 1: is this? I was, Yeah, yeah, so Vert. You know,
- 34:19Speaker 1: I took Vert on tour with me during every summer
- 34:22Speaker 1: I go on tour Withiz. He came out because I
- 34:25Speaker 1: actually met him during our first tour together we did
- 34:31Speaker 1: in twenty fourteen one that I did with Wiz, and
- 34:35Speaker 1: then the next year we went out with Wiz and
- 34:39Speaker 1: fall Out Boy, and I brought Vert on the road
- 34:42Speaker 1: with me, so he would come out on my set
- 34:45Speaker 1: and perform what you want, and you know, him and
- 34:49Speaker 1: Wiz just you know, established a relationship and a bond,
- 34:53Speaker 1: and you know, Wiz put him on a record very
- 34:55Speaker 1: early on, and you know, like so in that sense,
- 35:00Speaker 1: like you know, he was family. He was. He was
- 35:02Speaker 1: like he was like Taylor Gang, you know, but it
- 35:04Speaker 1: wasn't like a it wasn't like a paperwork situation tailor
- 35:08Speaker 1: gang change he did. So what happened was I think
- 35:12Speaker 1: at the first very Uzi Christmas we did in Philly,
- 35:17Speaker 1: Wiz gave him a Tailor Gang chain on the stage. Now,
- 35:21Speaker 1: mind you, this is this is still very early on
- 35:24Speaker 1: when people one didn't even know Uzi was signed to
- 35:30Speaker 1: DJ Drama Don Cannon, let alone know what Generation Now was.
- 35:34Speaker 1: So that literally was kind of like the way that
- 35:37Speaker 1: the name Generational even got some traction because it came
- 35:41Speaker 1: out like, Uzi vert signs to Taylor Gang and you know,
- 35:45Speaker 1: of course those are our brothers, us family. But we
- 35:47Speaker 1: were like, oh, this is not exactly not the whole story. Yeah,
- 35:51Speaker 1: he signed a Generation Now. So then it turned into like, wait,
- 35:54Speaker 1: what's Generation Now? So it kind of like, in a sense,

- 37:41Speaker 1: I've ever been to in terms of dispensaries. I've been
- 37:44Speaker 1: to probably hundreds of these things, and the experience at
- 37:48Speaker 1: Hardan is like nowhere else. The customer service, the selection
- 37:53Speaker 1: of premium cannabis, the experience as a customer that you
- 37:56Speaker 1: get when you walk into the building in Las Vegas
- 37:59Speaker 1: is bar none the best. It's just the best. Man,
- 38:02Speaker 1: they are the best. We got so much going on
- 38:04Speaker 1: this weekend. They're sponsoring the Rolling Stone Party on Friday,

- 38:26Speaker 1: to Hardean man, that's the family man, go if you're
- 38:28Speaker 1: in Vegas, pull up on them, man, Hardean Las Vegas.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Take me back. You guys get hit by the FEDS
- 38:35Speaker 1: for essentially the mixtape hustle. Yeah, for people who don't know.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Back in the day, I don't even know how many
- 38:44Speaker 1: CD burners you guys had to have had, but I
- 38:47Speaker 1: know he bootleg Now. I only had one of the
- 38:50Speaker 1: ten to ten ones. Yeah, so you put the one
- 38:52Speaker 1: at the top and then you do ten at a time.
- 38:54Speaker 1: And then I had a little shitty printer I was
- 38:56Speaker 1: putting the fucking mixtape covers out on. I would go
- 38:58Speaker 1: to the fucking Staples and by the jewel case, I'd
- 39:01Speaker 1: steal ink from the fucking demo printers what at a time.
- 39:04Speaker 1: But you know how much money you think I made you? Oh,
- 39:07Speaker 1: you made me a lot of money. You help to
- 39:09Speaker 1: feed my baby, I would say, you you DJ Small's
- 39:13Speaker 1: the game and Gunit Radios Fire. That was that was
- 39:17Speaker 1: I mean, cause Southern Smoke was like a big brand
- 39:19Speaker 1: to it, that very very big brand, very big. That
- 39:22Speaker 1: was my main competitor. Yeah. It was like gangster grills
- 39:24Speaker 1: and Southern Smoke yep. Yeah, But but like do you know,
- 39:28Speaker 1: like what the like, was there like a certain thing
- 39:31Speaker 1: that happened that turned the fed's attention to what was
- 39:34Speaker 1: happening with mixtape culture because technically, technically it was against
- 39:41Speaker 1: the law. I guess, yeah, it was. It was against
- 39:43Speaker 1: long Like what was the catalyst? I guess that turned.
- 39:47Speaker 1: I mean there's a lot of different conspiracy theories. I mean,
- 39:50Speaker 1: if if we go back and in time, like if
- 39:54Speaker 1: we look at where music was at that time, Like
- 39:57Speaker 1: the music business was in the decline for sure, so
- 40:02Speaker 1: a lot of like the bottom line wasn't what they
- 40:08Speaker 1: the heads or you know, the top of the food
- 40:11Speaker 1: chains were used to seeing, and mixtapes were. It was
- 40:16Speaker 1: like the wild wad West in a lot of ways.
- 40:17Speaker 1: So such it was. It was like the crypto market.
- 40:20Speaker 1: So outside of like the sanctioned gangster grills that I
- 40:24Speaker 1: was doing and the other like guna radios, there were
- 40:27Speaker 1: like all these just random mixtapes out of people getting
- 40:31Speaker 1: songs and leaking them and taking them from gmails and
- 40:35Speaker 1: you know, literally being bootlegs. So I think in a
- 40:39Speaker 1: way it was affecting potentially it could have been affecting
- 40:43Speaker 1: some of the business, or maybe they were just looking
- 40:46Speaker 1: at mixtapes as a scapegoat, you know, and then you know,
- 40:49Speaker 1: at the same time, mixtapes started to show up and
- 40:51Speaker 1: like best Buy and Target, with which I never understood. Yeah,
- 40:55Speaker 1: it was like, nigga, those are fucking bootlegs, like literally,
- 40:59Speaker 1: like they had barcodes on them, and that that wasn't
- 41:03Speaker 1: coming from me, you know what I mean. Like, so
- 41:05Speaker 1: they didn't run up in Best Buy with them sixteen's
- 41:08Speaker 1: and arrest them for bootlegging and racketeering. But I think
- 41:12Speaker 1: when when that started to happen, and like, you know,
- 41:15Speaker 1: me being the go to guy, like the top of
- 41:18Speaker 1: the food chain, it was like, you know, maybe they
- 41:20Speaker 1: were out to send a message, and obviously it got
- 41:24Speaker 1: across because shit changed after that for sure. So at
- 41:27Speaker 1: the time in your peak, you guys have your headquarters,
- 41:30Speaker 1: are you guys burning the CDs, distributing the mixtapes to
- 41:36Speaker 1: like the bodegas, the mixed units of the world, these
- 41:39Speaker 1: websites where you can go get mixtapes. Were you guys
- 41:41Speaker 1: the source of just your gangsterrill shit or were you
- 41:44Speaker 1: guys also producing other people's Nah, we were just doing
- 41:46Speaker 1: all in house stuff. So it was all affiliates, all affiliates. Yeah,
- 41:51Speaker 1: so everything that we were doing was strictly like under
- 41:54Speaker 1: our under our brand, So there were gangster girls, but
- 41:59Speaker 1: like that was one of the problems too, Like so
- 42:01Speaker 1: when when when they went to Gangster Grills dot com,
- 42:05Speaker 1: one of the red flags that they saw wasn't necessarily
- 42:09Speaker 1: the Gangster Grills, it was the other CDs that had
- 42:12Speaker 1: like Michael Jackson on the cover, Beyonce on the cover,
- 42:16Speaker 1: and it was like a blend of Michael Jackson, so
- 42:19Speaker 1: mashup shite. There was like the radio mixes. Yeah, they
- 42:23Speaker 1: seeing shit like that and like, oh, these are like
- 42:26Speaker 1: you know, and it's Michael Jackson. And what were you
- 42:29Speaker 1: guys selling mixtapes per piece four back then? Like let's
- 42:31Speaker 1: say if someone bought it directly from you, maybe like
- 42:34Speaker 1: two three dollars. Oh wow, I used to do I
- 42:37Speaker 1: think five bucks a pop or five or twenty for wholesale. No, no,
- 42:42Speaker 1: just like got the swap meat in my space. Oh
- 42:44Speaker 1: I'm talking about wholesale wholesale. I was doing like two
- 42:46Speaker 1: fifty Yeah, like two fifty three dollars a piece, probably
- 42:51Speaker 1: like seven eight dollars or something like that. I don't
- 42:55Speaker 1: I don't remember. Everything I was doing at that time
- 42:57Speaker 1: was in bulk so we were. It was all wholesale. Yeah,
- 43:00Speaker 1: it was at a lesser price. People were buying like
- 43:03Speaker 1: quantities of from two hundred to one thousand at a time,
- 43:07Speaker 1: like NonStop, in a hypothetical world in which you were
- 43:10Speaker 1: doing that. But you're not who you are right now.
- 43:12Speaker 1: What would have been the best year that you made
- 43:14Speaker 1: mixtape money was in a hypothetical world where it actually
- 43:18Speaker 1: didn't happen in a far universe far away? Are you? So,
- 43:24Speaker 1: let me get this question straight. I'm not. I'm asking
- 43:26Speaker 1: you if you were someone who looks just like you
- 43:29Speaker 1: in a different universe, how much illegal makestpe money would
- 43:33Speaker 1: somebody like you have made at a peak without it
- 43:35Speaker 1: actually being you. You know what's crazy to answer that, Like,
- 43:43Speaker 1: in that hypothetical world, somebody who may have looked like me,
- 43:46Speaker 1: like in like another universe doppelganger, like one hundred thousand
- 43:51Speaker 1: a month? Wow? Yeah? And that is that taxable in
- 43:56Speaker 1: this hypothetical world where this person do some of it? Yeah,
- 44:00Speaker 1: I was. It was a hypothetical person would have been
- 44:03Speaker 1: paying taxes on it because it was going through the
- 44:05Speaker 1: banking system. It was cash involved as well. Yeah. But
- 44:09Speaker 1: what's crazy is even after the raid like during the
- 44:13Speaker 1: like that piff era and live mixtape era, Yo, I
- 44:17Speaker 1: probably made more money than because they were they were
- 44:21Speaker 1: cutting me checks to make whatever gangster girls I put
- 44:25Speaker 1: out exclusive to their site. So when an artist would
- 44:29Speaker 1: come to me to do a tape, I'd be like,
- 44:30Speaker 1: that's fine, but asked to go on that piff And
- 44:33Speaker 1: then that piff was What was the da pif check
- 44:35Speaker 1: for like dedication for dedication, What was the check? Probably
- 44:38Speaker 1: like fifty they would give me. They gave me fifty
- 44:41Speaker 1: and gave Wayne a buck fifty like and Yo, when
- 44:45Speaker 1: you guys would drop those fucking tapes like Dap Pip
- 44:47Speaker 1: would get shut the fuck with crash like, I made
- 44:50Speaker 1: more money after the raid off mixtapes than I made
- 44:54Speaker 1: during the earlier days. I bought the first time I
- 44:58Speaker 1: ever interviewed you or met you. I was like a
- 45:00Speaker 1: nobody intern of power in Phoenix and I had the
- 45:03Speaker 1: I bought the white tea with I'll Never Forget It
- 45:05Speaker 1: Jay Drama ship off a mixed unit and I was like, man,
- 45:08Speaker 1: I'm about to be drama about the bust out the
- 45:10Speaker 1: team that was And we did that interview like during
- 45:14Speaker 1: my first album run right after the raid. So that
- 45:17Speaker 1: was like seven Yeah, it was around. It was it
- 45:19Speaker 1: was early, bro, I was like a nobody. Yeah, but
- 45:22Speaker 1: I never forgot, like I remember you from that time.
- 45:25Speaker 1: I was like the first time we met in Phoenix
- 45:28Speaker 1: when we did that and fucking triple xl DJ Drama.
- 45:31Speaker 1: See yeah, shout out to Mixed Unit. Man. I used
- 45:33Speaker 1: to buy a hell of shirts off of there. Yeah,
- 45:35Speaker 1: they had everything. Yeah, fucking a man. I just saw, well,
- 45:38Speaker 1: I guess that PIFF isn't actually closing. They put up
- 45:40Speaker 1: a tweet that said that there was. I saw that.
- 45:42Speaker 1: I was so sad. That's crazy. I mean it's crazy
- 45:45Speaker 1: because fab dm it to me too, like I had.
- 45:48Speaker 1: I think I saw it on I saw a post
- 45:53Speaker 1: about it, and then right after I saw a post
- 45:55Speaker 1: about it, fab dm'd it to me. And I think
- 45:57Speaker 1: he dm'd it to me because I we just recently
- 46:01Speaker 1: sat down for something I got coming out and we
- 46:03Speaker 1: were talking about that era. But like, just to think
- 46:06Speaker 1: about that, like imagine if that PIF does or did
- 46:10Speaker 1: had gone under, like that's like a generation. Yeah, it's
- 46:14Speaker 1: like it's like a part of our culture that could
- 46:18Speaker 1: potentially go like lost, you know what I mean, Like
- 46:21Speaker 1: so much of that stuff is not available on the DSPs,
- 46:25Speaker 1: and like you know where people don't know where to
- 46:27Speaker 1: find it. And like if we lose if we lose that,
- 46:31Speaker 1: you know, that time or and that music from that
- 46:36Speaker 1: that era, it's like it'll just be like word, it'll
- 46:40Speaker 1: be like damn, do you remember? You know, It'll it'll
- 46:44Speaker 1: just be spoken about. So it's really it's like really
- 46:46Speaker 1: important that we get a hold of that, you know,
- 46:50Speaker 1: just just to keep it a lot to keep it,
- 46:53Speaker 1: got to keep the history of Like where else am
- 46:54Speaker 1: I going to go? I don't want to go listen
- 46:55Speaker 1: to some shitty YouTube fucking ship to go listen to
- 46:58Speaker 1: like the Forarel tape or some little other show. And
- 47:01Speaker 1: one of my goals is something I've been working on too,
- 47:04Speaker 1: is definitely bringing some of the classics to the DSPs,
- 47:07Speaker 1: like so they can be available so people. You know,
- 47:11Speaker 1: there's so many projects and it's a lot of work,
- 47:15Speaker 1: but it can be done. Like it can be done.
- 47:17Speaker 1: So one that we're definitely in the process of working
- 47:20Speaker 1: on is getting dedication to up on DSPs. It's really
- 47:24Speaker 1: just what clearing the beats? Yeah, you got clearing the
- 47:28Speaker 1: clearing the beats, Like you know, I'm sure Wane's down
- 47:31Speaker 1: of course. Yeah. Yeah, can't do it without without the game,
- 47:35Speaker 1: can't do it without them. Who el do you have
- 47:37Speaker 1: on this new album? I got a lot of great people.
- 47:43Speaker 1: Tyler the creator, who's okay, who's the Who's on the
- 47:47Speaker 1: Tyler song? Tyler and I just just wait something here.
- 47:54Speaker 1: You may wait long enough for this interviews with the
- 47:55Speaker 1: Tyler drama. It's Tyler. And you can't put Tyler on
- 47:59Speaker 1: a song with anybody. So it's just Tyler. Yeah. So
- 48:02Speaker 1: he's got track number two or the intro or what
- 48:04Speaker 1: is it? It's I mean feels like, what a way
- 48:07Speaker 1: to start track two? What a way to you know,
- 48:11Speaker 1: what a way to come off for Grammy? What track
- 48:13Speaker 1: number is it? What a way to start? So it's
- 48:15Speaker 1: the intro? I love it. Jack Harlow's on the album
- 48:21Speaker 1: I Sure would hope, So, Little Woozy vert Uh, Little
- 48:25Speaker 1: Wayne's on the album Jesus forty two Dougs on the album.
- 48:31Speaker 1: L Russell's on the album Love l Russell Hives on
- 48:34Speaker 1: the album Carvings on the album money Bag, Yeos on
- 48:39Speaker 1: the album, Gucci's on the album Jeezy's on the album
- 48:44Speaker 1: Nipsey Hustles on the album. Nipsey Blast is on the album.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Did you put Nipsey and Blast on a song together?
- 48:53Speaker 1: I got some ship on there. You're telling me you
- 48:56Speaker 1: got Nipsey and Blast on the album together. I got
- 48:59Speaker 1: some ship. Pretty excited for you to hear it. How
- 49:02Speaker 1: do you get the Nipsey verse? You know, Nipsey did
- 49:06Speaker 1: a lot of recording at uh mean Street. Yeah yeah,
- 49:11Speaker 1: so so okay, lost to archives, so we got this
- 49:15Speaker 1: old Nipsey verse. You reach out to black Sam make
- 49:18Speaker 1: sure obviously you have to clear with the family of course. Yeah,
- 49:21Speaker 1: and then and then a lot of that process, and
- 49:23Speaker 1: then you send the verse to Blast and say I
- 49:25Speaker 1: need a hook. Yeah, you know how it goes. You
- 49:32Speaker 1: know how to put songs together featuring another artist from
- 49:38Speaker 1: La No No no, Wow. Yeah, I can't wait. It
- 49:42Speaker 1: sounds like am on the album Simon the rustling a
- 49:45Speaker 1: song together. No No, I love it. Shout out to
- 49:48Speaker 1: the bay Mane Whiz is on their tips on there.
- 49:51Speaker 1: So I feel like I have some of the you know,
- 49:57Speaker 1: the the uh the people you would expect to see
- 50:01Speaker 1: work with dram as well as a lot of like
- 50:03Speaker 1: new voices as well. So it's a good. You know combination. Yo,
- 50:08Speaker 1: how do you kind of look back at the Grand
- 50:10Speaker 1: Hustle era of your career because when you were on
- 50:13Speaker 1: Grand Hustle, it was like the hottest ship moving. Yeah,
- 50:16Speaker 1: like I think a lot of things probably you know,
- 50:19Speaker 1: kind of went wrong or you know, I mean, obviously
- 50:23Speaker 1: Bob is a star. I think trade the truth is
- 50:24Speaker 1: on Grand Hustle, my trippern Tip had a hell of
- 50:27Speaker 1: a roster. If we really want young bo I actually
- 50:31Speaker 1: really liked the guy that snitched Alpha Mega. Yeah, you
- 50:34Speaker 1: liked Alfamega. He was hard at fuck, but but you
- 50:38Speaker 1: know he was kind of like the first six ' nine.
- 50:44Speaker 1: He was an early teller because he was fire. He
- 50:47Speaker 1: was on that, he was on that record with Buster Rhymes. Yeah,
- 50:50Speaker 1: we had to perform that without Tip at the Hip
- 50:53Speaker 1: Hop Awards when Tip got it was that called Hurt
- 50:55Speaker 1: Yeah Hurt. Oh yeah, his voice was crazy. Yeah, we
- 50:58Speaker 1: performed that. I just somebody just recently sent me that
- 51:01Speaker 1: YouTube video. It was like y Cleft opened up and
- 51:05Speaker 1: then we and then me fucking Alpha Mega and bust
- 51:09Speaker 1: To performed Hurt without Tip because people were he had
- 51:14Speaker 1: just got locked up, like literally that day. Do you
- 51:17Speaker 1: think him getting locked up like kind of affected, like
- 51:19Speaker 1: the trajectory of the label as a whole in a sense.
- 51:22Speaker 1: I mean, you know, because he had Meek Mill was
- 51:25Speaker 1: originally ground hustle, and yeah, Meek was over a ground
- 51:30Speaker 1: hustle for a period of time, you know. I mean,
- 51:33Speaker 1: you know Travis Scott was. I remember Travis, Travis was
- 51:36Speaker 1: grand hustle. Yeah, bo b Iggy Azelia oh man. You
- 51:42Speaker 1: know Tip, Tip has had his hand in a in
- 51:46Speaker 1: a nice you know. Uh, I don't think he gets
- 51:50Speaker 1: the credit that he should deserve when it comes to
- 51:53Speaker 1: like having an eye for talent. I agree, I has
- 51:56Speaker 1: an amazing eye for talent. Yeah. Yeah. And then you
- 51:59Speaker 1: know there's others that he like he talks about, you know,
- 52:03Speaker 1: savage and thug coming to him wanting to sign and
- 52:06Speaker 1: you know, him telling him, look like, I think you
- 52:08Speaker 1: should do it this way. I could give you this
- 52:10Speaker 1: million dollars, but you know, just I could give you
- 52:14Speaker 1: this game that'll go a lot farther. So yeah. But
- 52:18Speaker 1: but as far as like that time in my career,
- 52:21Speaker 1: I don't know if what I want to call it
- 52:23Speaker 1: like a golden era, but it was a hell of
- 52:25Speaker 1: a It was a hell of a time like you know,
- 52:27Speaker 1: being t I's DJ. When t I was like the
- 52:31Speaker 1: hottest ship a rapper, Like he was literally the hottest
- 52:34Speaker 1: rapper out, like you know, we was. We was doing
- 52:38Speaker 1: tours across the state. I went around and we went
- 52:41Speaker 1: around the world together. He was doing Chevy commercials. He
- 52:46Speaker 1: was like I was in atl like you know, he
- 52:50Speaker 1: had the number one album and number one movie out
- 52:52Speaker 1: at the same time, Like you know, he was on fire.
- 52:55Speaker 1: I mean literally I got to go on tour with
- 52:56Speaker 1: jay Z because the Tip and then you know, my
- 52:59Speaker 1: brand and Gangster Grills was the hottest thing going. So
- 53:02Speaker 1: like you know, to be DJ Drama and and what
- 53:06Speaker 1: Ti I was and for us to you know be
- 53:09Speaker 1: together at that time, it was like it was kind
- 53:11Speaker 1: of what I had always like dreamed for in a
- 53:14Speaker 1: way of like a DJ artist relationship like growing up
- 53:18Speaker 1: looking at you know, run DMC and jam Massa J
- 53:21Speaker 1: and Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff or being rock Kim
- 53:24Speaker 1: or even like who kid in fifty or like, yeah,
- 53:26Speaker 1: you guys were like synonymous with each other for a minute. Yeah,
- 53:29Speaker 1: like Green and m early on Like when when when
- 53:31Speaker 1: I when I when TIP was like rising and like
- 53:35Speaker 1: I was doing my thing, and I was like, oh, yeah,
- 53:37Speaker 1: like this is this could be my guy, you know
- 53:39Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So you know, I like I used
- 53:42Speaker 1: to literally go to the studio, to the ground house
- 53:45Speaker 1: of Studios, which later became my studios, but I would
- 53:48Speaker 1: literally go there like every day just to be around,
- 53:51Speaker 1: just to kind of like vibe for that DJ gig
- 53:54Speaker 1: because I knew what that's what that could be. Yeah,
- 53:58Speaker 1: and then we had some hell of the times on
- 53:59Speaker 1: a oh like I saw a lot of a lot
- 54:02Speaker 1: of a lot of things. What was the jay Z Tour?
- 54:05Speaker 1: So originally it was the best of both Worlds tour
- 54:09Speaker 1: and the one that went the incident happened in New
- 54:13Speaker 1: York And during the New York show, Jay was bringing
- 54:17Speaker 1: out a bunch of people when and then that was
- 54:19Speaker 1: when Tip had bring him out out. So he brought
- 54:22Speaker 1: Tip out for that show. So after that show, it
- 54:25Speaker 1: became basically the jay Z and Friends Tour. So we
- 54:30Speaker 1: wound up on the tour. So for the next like month,
- 54:34Speaker 1: you know, I was on the road watching fucking jay
- 54:38Speaker 1: Z DMX Mary J. Blige perform every night. You know,
- 54:42Speaker 1: like it was crazy, it was insane, Like you know,
- 54:46Speaker 1: this is like O four. It was Insane four, who
- 54:50Speaker 1: was Ja's DJ at that time, was a Neil Armstrong.
- 54:53Speaker 1: Jay didn't have a d J if I'm not mistaken.
- 54:59Speaker 1: They were running on the board the the instantly play
- 55:04Speaker 1: from the from the side. Yeah, speaking of shout out
- 55:08Speaker 1: of Green Lantern, the legend DJ NAS's DJ bro, Like
- 55:14Speaker 1: who can say that? I tell him that all the time.
- 55:16Speaker 1: One of my personal favorite mixtape creators of all time.
- 55:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, he's like those Green Lantern remixes. There's no
- 55:21Speaker 1: Gangster Girls if there's no Green Lantern Greenland. Like we
- 55:26Speaker 1: used to like salivate pause over Green's tapes, like we
- 55:31Speaker 1: would when Green would drop. We would sit there and
- 55:33Speaker 1: just like the rap phenomenon Ship, we would be so
- 55:37Speaker 1: overwhelmed and just so like yo, we gotta get on
- 55:40Speaker 1: our ship. Like you know, Green was Green was our
- 55:44Speaker 1: Green was our idol bro, like even before I knew him,
- 55:47Speaker 1: like you know, and now like he's such a great
- 55:51Speaker 1: personal friend of mine, but like coming up like Green
- 55:54Speaker 1: Lantern was the epitome of what I wanted to be
- 55:57Speaker 1: as a mixtape DJ. Shot to Green. There's a list
- 56:01Speaker 1: of artists who never did a gangst The Grills, uh,
- 56:05Speaker 1: who's the one person who you never got to do
- 56:07Speaker 1: a tape with? But it almost happened. It was like
- 56:12Speaker 1: almost there, but it just for whatever reason, didn't end
- 56:14Speaker 1: up working out. There's a couple uh Drake Black thought,
- 56:24Speaker 1: which still better make that shit happen for you feeling,
- 56:27Speaker 1: which still needs to happen. Travis Scott mm hmm. Nicki
- 56:36Speaker 1: Minaj I'm I forgetting? Like who's he forgetting? Like Travis Travis, Nikky,
- 56:45Speaker 1: Drake thought, Black thought big, there's another big one, I think.
- 56:53Speaker 1: I mean, that's a hell of an Any of those
- 56:55Speaker 1: that you you started to work on it, but it
- 56:57Speaker 1: just didn't get finished or it just never got out. Well,
- 57:00Speaker 1: we started to work on the Drake and Gucci tape collaboration,
- 57:06Speaker 1: there were like there are a couple of songs that
- 57:09Speaker 1: got started for that that we'll never probably hear. No,
- 57:13Speaker 1: they came out, Yeah, they came out on like the
- 57:15Speaker 1: Cold Wars and then the tape that's that is beam
- 57:19Speaker 1: Me Up. Scotti was originally supposed to be a gangst
- 57:21Speaker 1: the girls. So the Nicki Mina's tape that you know
- 57:25Speaker 1: they just hold yeah holiday and I think Trapoholics or something.
- 57:29Speaker 1: So yeah, but that was originally against the girls the
- 57:33Speaker 1: Gangster Grills drop. M. I just saw somebody was getting
- 57:38Speaker 1: sued for using someone's voice as a drop on all
- 57:44Speaker 1: these records. Did you ever have to like get any
- 57:47Speaker 1: sort of legal paperwork to clear the drop? Bro? Little
- 57:51Speaker 1: John is the like greatest human being on the planet,
- 57:58Speaker 1: like he has to this day. And like by me
- 58:03Speaker 1: saying this, I'm not It's not even like there's a
- 58:07Speaker 1: worry because if he had any intentions at like, he
- 58:12Speaker 1: could have came so long ago, you know what I'm saying,
- 58:15Speaker 1: Like I've literally been running with his voice for twenty
- 58:19Speaker 1: two years, like since he was the first host of
- 58:23Speaker 1: Gangster Grills, Like my brand has has been built off
- 58:27Speaker 1: of his back, you know what I'm saying. And he's
- 58:29Speaker 1: done nothing but show love. Like you know, so was
- 58:32Speaker 1: that the original drop was from the original Gangster Grills.
- 58:35Speaker 1: So he came. The first time I ever had a
- 58:38Speaker 1: host for Gangster Grills was John, and he came and
- 58:43Speaker 1: hosted the tape and he was just doing drops and
- 58:47Speaker 1: in the drop he said, gangst the Grizzils. Yeah. And
- 58:51Speaker 1: then the next tape I did, I didn't have a host,
- 58:54Speaker 1: So I was like, all right, well fuck it. I'm
- 58:56Speaker 1: gonna just you run his voice back and just like
- 59:00Speaker 1: keep playing it. And that was how it was born
- 59:03Speaker 1: and then it was over from there. Shit's legendary, crazy,
- 59:06Speaker 1: so legendary, you know for you Now that Jack has
- 59:10Speaker 1: kind of crossed over to superstar status, I know he's
- 59:14Speaker 1: got a movie coming soon. Just did his first headlining
- 59:17Speaker 1: arena tour. Yeah, just got nominated for Best Rap Album
- 59:21Speaker 1: of the Year, even though I don't think you should
- 59:23Speaker 1: have gotten nominated personally, But I love the guy. Have
- 59:29Speaker 1: you guys, because I do feel like when an artist
- 59:31Speaker 1: hits that wave where they're just like fucking out of here,
- 59:36Speaker 1: do you guys keep your relationships as solid as it
- 59:39Speaker 1: always has been. I mean, Jack is a solid human being,
- 59:44Speaker 1: So because he kind of got to witness I kind
- 59:47Speaker 1: of feel like he was somehow like weirdly wedged in
- 59:49Speaker 1: between like the UZI generation now things. Yeah, it was
- 59:53Speaker 1: it was kind of unfair for him, you know, but
- 59:56Speaker 1: like he kind of got to see and what was
- 59:57Speaker 1: dope is that he really you know, he's like I
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: feel like him really standing by me during that meant
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: a lot, you know what I'm saying. And at the
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: time when like he could have just kind of like
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to say stay out of
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: it in a sense of that he was in it,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: but when the press or the way it was being
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: portrayed as as if we were bad guys, Jack really
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: went out on a limb and put his arm around
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: me and was like, Yo, this is my guy. You
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. And I always tip my hat
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: off to him for that, you know what I'm saying
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: for because he didn't have to do that. He could
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: have he could have totally stayed out of the way.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: You know. I don't even know if you remember, Like
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: there were some pictures and then like you know, like him,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: UZI had a little back and forth in between everything.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: They had never even met. You know what I'm saying.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: It was it was basically just because I was in
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: the middle. But so yeah, to your point, I mean
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: he did get to see that, and you know, I
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: obviously when when you have artists like you know, you
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: have these conversations early on in their careers, like yo,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: you you know, you when you're a superstar, like you know,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: people change or things happen, and you know, Jack's just
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: he's a solid guy, you know, obviously at twenty five,
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: you know where he is with the type of success
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: and the stardom. He's not the same kid he was
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: at nineteen, but you know, he's he's a very focused individual.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Like you know, he made the decision years ago to
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: stop drinking, like you know, to like getting a workout regiment.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Like he was really really focused, and you know, I
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: just I just think outside of rap music, like he's solid,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So you know, they're they're
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: they're all artists, you know, and and in our own ways,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: me included, Like there's always a certain level of narcissism.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: I feel like that comes along with being an artist.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: So you know there's times when you you watch people
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: be in their in their mode, their mode, and you
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: know it comes with the territory. You know, It's not
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: something I'm like, I've been doing this too long, so
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: I get it. But but somebody like Jack, I will say,
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: you know, I've watched I watched his growth, and you know,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: I'm proud that, like he still has maintained this level
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: of humility. Has he started working on a new album yet? Yes,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: because I know, I mean, I feel like he had
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: such a wild year. Yeah, Like I kind of feel
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: like if I'm like Jack Harlowe, I'm unplugging for like
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: yeah cool ninety days for sure, Well you're the movie
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: the album. I mean because he was he was. It
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: was Jack Harlow season, Like he was everywhere, Like you
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: couldn't look left or right without seeing Jack Harlow. So
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: I would, I mean to your point, like I would say,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: he's like last couple of months has it's been a
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: little more quiet outside of maybe like a super Bowl
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: commercial or he wasn't even in Arizona for the super Bowl.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: He was not. He was He wasn't because I was like,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I already know he's about to
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: do all the white clubs. He didn't go to Arizona
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: for the super Bowl. He wasn't an All Star, you know,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: and he wants to go to Utah. He was. He
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: was quiet for the Grammys. Outside of going to the Grammys, right,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: you know, he's been in a real work mode for
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: the most part. So you know he's he's back in Louisville,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: working in a space and an environment that he's comfortable in,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: and you know, he's he's got a lot of new music.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: Give me the NBA Young Boy tape. Did you have
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: to go to Salt Lake City to link with him
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: or were you just sending over shit after Like how's
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: that because he's kind of like a you know, truthfully, yeah, truthfully.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: I got a call on Tuesday or Wednesday, Yo, I'm
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: dropping a mixtape. I want you to host it. You know,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: I got like two other tapes coming out, bro. But
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: the week of the week of oh Wow, he was
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: trying to get out of that deal. He called me
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: Tuesday or Wednesday. I think I did the tape if
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: I if you called me Tuesday, we dropped the tape
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Thursday night. I probably finished it Thursday and we dropped it.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: But like, I'm not saying no to an NBA your shape,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: and it's just like, you know, it was like I
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: had already the g zy and the snoop and and
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: people knew knew about him. So I was like, oh
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: my god, when I come with NBA Young Boy tape,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: fuck these niggas up. Like on one day, I'm like, Yo,
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: drums on some drops. It was like we were in
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: New York called you that I called you you did,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: And I was like, am I fucking crazy? Or are
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: you dropping three mixtapes today. I was like, what the
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: fuck is going on? This is shit? Is crazy? You
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: just got a Grammy bruh Hill, Let theseuckers breathe a
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: little bit, no chill, not letting nobody and it would
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: snoop j Zy an NBA young boy. Yeah, I was crazy.
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: Jesus Christ listen, man. I mean, let's put it in
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: a perspective, like I've been what I've been DJ in
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: thirty years. I've been in the business twenty years, two
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: decades plus. Like I've had a moment or moments where
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: I was on fire. So now in twenty twenty one,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: twenty two, twenty three, I'm back on fire. Like you
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: can't turn it up. Yeah, you got to, like you
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: can't take that shit for granted. And mind you even
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: the years before that, Like it's not like I haven't
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: been working. It's not Jack hasn't been successful, UZI it
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: wasn't doing this thing, or I didn't have my bag
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: it's residency, or I was dropping things here and there.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Like it's not like I have I haven't been busy,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: but to be in this space right now at forty five,
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: with my skin glowing like this, Yeah, drinking a gallon
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: of water looking twenty one, Like, come on, man, I'm
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: not not playing. You have never stopped doing clubs never,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: and you're in a position where you don't need to
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: do nightclubs. I don't, so why do you still do
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: the club shit? I don't like to leave any money
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: on the table, and it keeps me, it keeps me fresh,
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: Like I like, I like to know, like I like
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: to as a DJ, I like to still feel like
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: I know what's going on, you know what I mean,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: Like you still have your the fingers on the pulse
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: of the shit, because you kind of have to have
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: that in order to rock clubs absolutely, like you have
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: to or like forces you to be. Yeah, if you're not,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: if you're not in the clubs regularly or know what's
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: going on, like yeah, you can't just go and not
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: to the type of clubs that we do or that
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: I'm in, Like I'm respectfully, I'm not djam for forty
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: five year olds, like I'm djammed for the club age,
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: which is what like twenty one to thirty something or whatever.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: So you know, to do that, you know, you gotta
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: you gotta stay in the mix. And it's crazy because
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: I did get to a point like when I was
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: like thirty thirty seven, thirty eight, Like I came to
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Lake and I was like, bro, like when I'm when
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: I turned forty, Bro, I don't want to do clubs anymore,
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: Like I don't want to be that guy, Like I
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: don't want to be the old head in the club.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: And so there was a there was a small period,
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: a small window where like Lake wasn't booking me as much,
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like, and we had a
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: bunch of other revenues of you know, revenue streams coming in,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: but I wasn't really doing a lot outside of maybe
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: like my Vegas residency or big shit. Yeah, but I
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: was because you'll do like you'll pull up and do
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: I mean, we were talking about Flux right, Peter Flux
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: in San Diego. But I mean, you know, I mean
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: most of the shit I do is pretty you know,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: it's it's it's of a certain caliber. Sure, but again,
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: like you know, just to be in this position and
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: to get these opportunities, like you know, it's a blessing.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: Like the moment you take it for granted, bro, the
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: is the moment they take it away from you. You know,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: what I mean, and like, you gotta get it while
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: you're getting it because you don't know how long it's
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: gonna last. And that's what I'm saying. Like and I've
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: I've had a blessed career that it's lasted this long,
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: you know what I mean? And like, you know, but
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: I still feel forever twenty one, like the store is.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: You know, it's a bar, like we'll see why you
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: didn't wrap druck with I set that bar on the
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: tape forever twenty one like this, mister thanksgiving, God, damn it.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: What's up? Guys? Hey, shout out to our family at

- 1:12:08Speaker 1: we talked about the greatest DJ of all time discussion.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: I always, you know, say that, in my opinion, you
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: are the goat. Who are your favorite DJs? Let's go
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: a couple categories. You're very vocal about that too. What's
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: the like when you say that? Like, I just feel
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: like the reception that you get when you say that,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: even from other DJs. I think I think a lot
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: of I think, you know, like you like tweet that,
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: like Yo drums the greatest. I mean, what are we
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: talking about? Just? I mean, who's the other guy to
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: get a Grammy besides Jazzy? Jeff Right has a Grammy?
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Does he? What's song the Nipsey Record? That's right? So
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: me Khaled Jeff that might be it When it comes
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: to DJs, the Nipsey Record was Wow Ye shout out
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: to Yeah salute. But who's your favorite club DJ? I
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: have too favorite? I have to mister Rogers shots at
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: each town and DJ Boof shots of Boof Boof? Just
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: did is he he's Nikki's DJ? Right? Yes, he's Nikki's DJ?
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: And super Bowl he hopped on when Fab jumped on. Yeah.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: Booth and mister Rodgers are like my like, I hate
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: playing after them niggas like they're cold, broh. I hate it.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Like mister like mister Rogers, he does a better DJ
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: drama set than I do. Wow, Like one one year
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: we were on tour. We were in Houston and I
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: had an after party and this nigga just like was
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: in the club giving me my flowers and like the
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: dram the DJ dramas, Yo me and Lake would sitting
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: we would like, how am I supposed to go on
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: now Blown Away? Like Yo, this nigga just fucking And
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: then Booth is another one, like you know, I will.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: I've seen Booth on tour. We just did the Legends
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: of the Streets tour and that had to be a
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: crazy tour by the way it was. It was a
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: dope experience. Boozy on that one or he was on show.
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: He was on one show and then it didn't work out.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: But Booth something happened where I guess Fab had like
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: maybe missed a flight or something, and Booth literally had
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: to hold it down for like Fab's whole performance set
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: and I think it was like Valentine's Day too, and
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: he just like he's a problem, like Booth is a problem.
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: So those two guys are my definitely two current favorites.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: Like of yeah, of course Jeff is you know, Jeff
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: is amazing. I remember seeing Jim as j live one time.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: It was incredible. Yeah, Jeff is special though I saw
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: when I was living in Vegas. I remember like when
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: he would DJ, I would always either go see him
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: or Z trip just to be like just to go
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: see some ill DJ. Yeah, yeah, z trip was dope.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: There was a time when Encore unpluged Jazzy Jeff and
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: it caused like chaos in the Vegas nightclub clip see,
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: and they like shut him off because he was he
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: wouldn't stop playing hip hop. This was like the dark
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: E d M days of Vegas. Yeah, an Encore, there's
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: you know Shaky Green, Yes, so Shky I think had
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: booked him there and you know he's an old school
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: hip hop guy. But like the GM of the club
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: like shut Jazzy Jeff off because he was too hip hop.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: That's crazy, Like can you imagine cutting off DJ Jazzy Jeff.
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: It was like let his he just went silent. Yeah,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: but bro Vegas used to be Fumi Go DJ, Crown
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: nightclub or some ship. Did you ever do Crown? Yeah?
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: I did Crown. I used to I did a bunch
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: of I used to do Chateau. You were a lot, Yeah,
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: I was a Yeah. It was at Paris a chateau. Yeah.
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: And then what was the club that Ray J used
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: to be a part of Do you remember? This was
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: like eight o nine and got there? Poetry poetry. I
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: used to do poetry all the time. Did you ever
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: do strip hop. Of course. It's the first time I
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: ever saw a woman swallowing entire like animal balloon. She
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: blew the whole ship up. It was like the size
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: of this table and it just went away and she
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: kept dancing, and I was like, is her stomach acid
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: gonna pop the balloon? And like is she gonna die?
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: Or like is she gonna yeah? Strip pop was the time?
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: That was? That was the ill time? And then yeah,
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: boof boof and Rogers, what about let's it are yours?
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: I don't know, dude, All time ams pretty fucking incredible too,
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: I guess, like for me? Problem sorry, And and then
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: I have to who am I? What? Oh fuck? Who
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: am I? Who am I not thinking of? From I
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: can't believe I just went blank from Canada. He was
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: a d m C champion. Oh A track, A track,
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: A track, a beast, A track is a problem. I
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: love a track. I love he's he's like he might
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: be he might be third for me. Well, the reason
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: I like like guys like a track is because I
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: feel like a track. You could throw him in any situation,
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: any situation, any situation, and he's gonna rock that ship
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: any situation. Fucking ratchet party, party doesn't matter. He could
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: go to a d m C any tracks. Actually, probably
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: my favorite DJ ever, He's and ship He's one of
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: mine too. He's one of my favorite DJs ever, like
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: all around, Like those are the kind of DJs that
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: I like. I'm like, yo, if I could throw you,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: if I can see somebody rock whatever and they got
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: whatever in their arsenal and you know to his credit
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: to like he had a very successful label. Yeah fools goals.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: You know, he fucking was Kanye's DJ, Like you know,
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: A Trax's name needs to get he was a d
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: MC champion, like as a child, as a fucking thirteen
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: year old crazy, you know, A trak is probably my
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: favorite personal favorite DJ. Great guys, scratch DJ. I really like.
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: DJ Baboo from the b Junkies is dope. But yeah,
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: some club shit, bro, I don't know, dude, Like, I
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: guess it depends on what club I'm in, because I'm
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: so like current that I'm like i just know if
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: I see someone's name on a flyer, I'm like, oh,
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: I know the music is going to be straight. Like
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: if Drey Sinatra's DJ, and I'm like, cool, I know
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: it's gonna be good of course if DJ ba D's DJ.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: I mean, I'm in LA, so I'm naming LA guys. Yeah,
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I know it's gonna be a good time. Yeah,
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Dre is like I heard
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Sean mack ones, Who's Oh yeah, Sean mack Shaw Mack's
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: a great one too, Sean Mack Sean like going and
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: shook igo. He's another one that I hated coming on after.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: I love on the mixtape side if we exclude Clue,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: because that's gonna be the easy one to name. Yeah,
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: but I didn't want to again about Dre. What's dope
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: about Dre too, is like I feel like like he's
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: like a a lou Will in a way, Like you
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Like Dre is, he's a fucking bro.
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: He's clutch. He's clutched at all times, like you know,
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: he saved my as twice. During Super Bowl weekend, Meek
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: Mill hoops on and Dre's just letting ship fly while
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: he's performing, and he throws on one of the records
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: that meets like on the second verse of and Meek
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: looks at him like you got my verse ready? And
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: Dre's like in the headphones and on the fly, like
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: perfect timing, and I just looked at Dre like what
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: record was? It? Was it? Fuck you? Yes, he dropped
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: the record and Meek almost looked at him like what
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: the fuck are playing this for? And Dre's like and
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: I was like, Doug, thank you. And then even because
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: your shit wasn't working with the controller, we had a
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: club yep. So Dre was like, I got it. It's
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: all good. Yep. We worked out a Dre's computer and
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: then you know, me and Dra, like when I first
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: started working a lot in LA, there was this club
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: called Colony on Monday nights. So All Star Weekend in
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: like twenty ten was in LA, and I think I
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: had a bunch of gigs, and then I got added
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: to do Colony that Monday of All Star. And this
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: was like around the time when LA was kind of
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: like changing, you know what I'm saying. And then so
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: like the type of music that I was playing and
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: like coming from Atlanta, like I did Colony and I
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: fucking rocked, and then me and Dre like established this
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: relationship so Dre would start That was really when the
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: West Coast was kind of resurging with a sound rock
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: city like the early Muster records. So Dre was putting
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: me on to all the California music and he was like,
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: you'll play this, You'll play this, and then I would
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: take it back home and like start putting it on
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: Shade forty five early on because I was familiar with it.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: So like, you know, he's he. We literally have been
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: like rocking for a decade plus and I've been watching
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: them doing. Whatever happened. You had a short lived DJ
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: crew that was supposed to kind of rival what the
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: heavy hitters are. You're talking about the Affiliates or like
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: the Academy. So we we we around twenty twelve, twenty thirteen.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: We wanted to h Dre was a part of it,
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: a man. We had a bunch of people a part
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: of it, like fucking Diamond Cuts, mister Rogers. It was
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: like fifteen. It was like short lived though, right Well,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: what happened to be honest, was around the time that
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: we launched it, I was going into my in our
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: job and then we started. A generation now started and
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: we went into the direction of you know, the label
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: and so I think that a lot of my you know,
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: are with yeah, our bandwidth and just like our focus
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: wasn't necessarily on what we had set out to do
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: with the DJ crew at the time, so it kind
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: of didn't it didn't become what it became. But you know,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: like you know it, we're still proud of, you know,
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: the arsenal or the collective that we put together, and
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: there are people that still represent or you know, like
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: it's still family. But then you said something before that
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: I wanted to bring up. Was it about you had
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: said in the club you were about to name somebody else.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: I was just saying that, like if I go to
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: a club, if I see someone's name on a flyer,
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: I'm like, there's just like a few names, and I'm like, oh,
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: you know, like I love B A D B A
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: D's dope and Dope. Yeah, I mean who else we
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: talked about a track? Oh, you said, okay, so taking
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: away clue, you said, mixtapes? Oh, mixtapes? Yeah, yeah, So
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: if you take clue out there, who's Who's who's your
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: personal favorite mixtape DJs after yourself? Obviously, because there's been
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: there was some. I mean, here's guys like Big Mic
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: OKJ Smalls. Then there's who Kid there's I mean, so
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: of course I'm gonna say Cannon first, and then I'm
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: gonna go Greenlander and who Kid like Greenlanding and who
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: Kid are are why we are where we are? Like
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: we we would we would religiously listen and cop Green's
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: tapes and who Kids tapes and and really for two
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: different reasons too, like because totally different styles of J
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: two totally different styles of DJ, and like Green skill
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: wise creativity wise, like actually making records, making records like
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: you know, the drops, just you know, sound wise, nobody
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: could touch Green. And then who kid For like marketing,
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: like like the way he was packaging his the mixtapes,
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: like the fold out, the sponsorships, like it just was
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: bigger than life. Like I think he's the first person
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: I ever seen like what they fold out, like you know,
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: it was not just a paper like you open it
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: up and it'd be like all this ship on air
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: and these you know, accolades and sponsorships and all this ship.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: It was like next level ship, you know, And it
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: was at a time when fifth was the biggest thing
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: in rap music. So I love Who kid For for
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: that and his and his personality as well, like you know,
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: it's just a fucking he's a fool. Like sure, he's
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: just a fucking fool. So yeah, that would those would
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: be my go tos, Amy leaving anybody, don't m So
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: we got Clue Green Iron Green, We got a kid? Yeah,
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: I mean early on or so you know, I'd show
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: some love to S and S and doop for early
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: on in my career, you know, for being inspirations. You
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: mentioned like not having bandwidth to do a lot. You
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: still you still do a shave forty five? Is it
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: Sunday nights, Friday Friday nights? So you're still I mean
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: you're still You're still doing a radio show. Are you
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: still voice in radio stations? Imaging? I still do that.
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: You got the label, you're putting music out, You're doing
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: just a lot. At what sacrifice has what has been
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: the biggest sacrifice you've had to make in the last
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: twenty years, because it could be time. I mean you
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: have grown like a grown daughter, you know what I'm saying,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: Like is it time with the kids? Absolutely? Family life.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: That was probably the biggest sacrifice was was father time.
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: Like there was a lot of times you know during
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: my kids like earlier obviously not so much these days
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: because they're older. But you know that I was gone
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: a lot and I was on the road like summer
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: tours or just like on the weekends, so you know
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: that time you can't get back. I mean, you know
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: it also benefited for them because they live a very
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: good life and you know, have a very good lifestyle.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: But yeah, I think that's probably the biggest sacrifice that
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: you make in this business. What is some pointers you
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: can give in terms of time management and just like
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: things you've learned over the years to where you're kind
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: of like making sure you're because time is the most
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: valuable currency, I think absolutely, Like, like, you know, you
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: got so much shit that you're doing on a day
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: to day basis, Like you know, like what are the
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: things the practice as you do? Because I got so
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: much you going on, I'm trying to figure outw to
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: fit in all kinds of shit. Bro, I'd be wearing
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: myself then, you know what I'm saying. So, like, is
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: there anything that you've kind of figured out over the
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: years that like is helpful in terms of productivity and
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: being able to kind of do so much? I mean
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: there's a lot, you know, there's I mean, first of
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: all like self preservation, like you know, eating clean, drinking
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: a lot of water, you know, getting sleep, like those things,
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: working out, Like those things definitely are important in truthfully
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: anyone's line of work or at this stage in life.
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: I could not have done it without the people around me,
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: Like you know, like I don't know if I would
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: be here if it wasn't for Lake, you know what
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like when you know, we've known each other
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: for twenty five twenty six years, but like when he
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: came into the picture in a business sense in my career,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: like I think we really really meshed and you know,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: we we were able to really like you know, create
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: and put together some amazing things. Like you know, I
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: just give him a lot of credit when it comes
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: to the creative side, when it comes to the business side,
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: when it just comes to intellect, like he's he's literally
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: probably you know, one of, if not the smartest people
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: I know. And besides him, you know, just in general,
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: having a good team of people around you, having good
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: people around you in general, you know what I'm saying,
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: is very important. Like obviously I don't do this by myself,
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: you know what I mean. You can't manage it all
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: on your own, you know, So salute to the whole
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: generational staff. You know, of course, you know, Canon has
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: always been very pivotable, pivotal, pivotable Is that the right word? Pivotabal? Pivotal, pivotal, pivotal,
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: can it has been very pivotal. Excuse me? You know,
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: he's my he's my right hand, Like, you know, we've
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: built the empire together, and then what else is there?
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: You know, definitely some time to yourself, have you learned
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: to say no to more shit? You know, I'm I'm
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: a real yes guy in a lot of ways. Like
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: there because you're like, I don't want to leave no
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: money on the table. Yeah, but I mean it definitely
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: has to be the right money. Like I'm not scrounging
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: for a dollar, you know what I'm saying. But you know,
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: I think the key to a lot of my success
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: is a yes in a way. But and when I
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: say that, I don't want to just say that I'm
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: just like out here just doing whatever, but like a
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: yes in a way of like people still find it surprising.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: Like I might just meet a person and they'll tell
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: me they are artists, and I'm like, here, take my number, right,
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: and I'll give them my number and like you know,
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: I might not necessarily answer, but you know, at the
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: same time they send me, they'll send me shit and
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: I'll look at it. And the fact you're giving your
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: number out is crazy. Yeah, I mean, like, yo, this
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: is Lake, Like I've definitely done you know that Lake
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: definitely gets calls like Yo, who is fucking who was
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: so and so? Who is Green Valley Monster spa day?
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: Like what a rap name? I don't know? Hey, was
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: there ever last question before you get out of here?
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: Was there ever a tape that you said no to
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: because maybe the money wasn't right or they weren't quite
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: there yet that you regretted later because the money wasn't right,
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: Like maybe somebody tried to get against the girls from you,
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: but at that time maybe they weren't maybe they weren't
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: on your radar and or they couldn't make the business
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: make sense. But later on you were like dance honestly
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: the only the only one of that like that for
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: me and people find this is very shocking, Like Rick
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: Ross does not have against the girls, and like there
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: was a period of time when I think they're like
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: deaf jam came to me about doing the tape, and
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: there was a number on the table, and and and
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: at the time I wasn't handling my business, but they
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: didn't want to pay for the tape, and so it
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: didn't happen. But honestly, I would have done a Rick
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: Ross tape just on the strength of, yeah, it's Ross,
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: Like he's got classic mixtape one thousand, like, so I
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: would have did that, Like it's it's shocking to me
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: to think that Ross doesn't have like a Gangster Girls
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: like he's not part and and mind you like that's
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: my guy. We've I've done records for him, you know,
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: he's done records for me, like we we've we've worked,
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: we've worked a lot throughout the years, but we don't
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: have a Gangster Girls together. So that's kind of shocking.
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: Is that something like now that you're back in this bag,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: are you trying to seek out tapes where you're like, hey,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: I know that, like I'm hot, Like the Gangster Girls
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: brand is as hot as it's been in the last
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: you know, in fifteen years. Maybe I now now like
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: approach Ross, or maybe I now approach there are there
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: are some people that I've like put kites out to like, yo, hey,
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: you know, now's the time. Now's the time. For sure. Absolutely,
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: But the majority of the time, I'm getting a lot
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: of phone calls and good phone calls, so it's like,
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: you know, like I got another one coming. That's crazy, man.
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: Yeah on the way. Yeah, it's done, it's done's done.
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: What state are they from? What state? Oh? Yeah, and
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: give it away? I can't oh in that case, Oh,
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: I can't. I can't tell you. You would give it away.
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: It's not Georgia. I can't tell you the state. It's
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: definitely not Georgia. It's definitely not Tennessee. It's definitely not Florida.
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: It's definitely not California. Yeah, it's not it give it away. Huh.
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: It would wouldn't be Louisiana. It would give it away.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: It would. It would give it away. Yeah, we get
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: it would give it it would. It would put it
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: in a box of like you would. Yeah, you would
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: figure it out. It would give it away. Yeah, Okay,
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: I'll find out off camera, because I will guess this
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: correctly on camera. If you give me a couple of
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: it's not Michigan. That means that they kind of have
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: to be like the face of where they're from, and
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: there's not a lot of other ship going on from
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: where this person's from. Even when I even if I
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: were to tell you, it would still take you a second,
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: but then you would figure it out. Or let's put
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: it like this, if I was to say it, they
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: would figure it out. Georgia, You're you're never gonna get it,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: so you might you might as well just ask another question. Well,
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: you're definitely not doing you're not doing one with tech nine.
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: Are you from fucking Kansas City? I don't know. Hmm. Oh, oh,
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: we're kind of getting into the region. I see. Uh,
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: we're getting into the region. Are we any hands up?
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: I don't think any here. M okay, Well, let me
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: get a list of the fifty states, so then I'm
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: gonna give you one guest outside of that one. Uh
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: fave y oh push a T okay? Okay, Yeah, what's
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: up with the Pushy T ship? Yeah? I just got
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: into a fucking serious argument with Jim Jones on video
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: about them saying that pusha T doesn't deserve to be
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: in the top fifty. Ever, it's sucking as Yes, push
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: Mazzi's on my album. By the way, Free Mazzi, Free Mazzi. Okay,
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: so what's up with the pusha T Gangster Gross? It's
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: in it works? Is it like started? Uh? Yes, okay, yeah.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: Is it gonna come before after this album? He keeps
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: talking about it's gonna come before his album, so it's
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: coming to yeah, almost finished. I can't say that. I
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: can't answer that, did you guys? Kind of are you
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: looking at states? I said, literally what I'm doing, I mean, Kentucky.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: It wouldn't be Jack Harlowe wouldn't be. I'm just trying
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: to think of like a rapper that's hot right now
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: from a random fucking place. I mean, it's not I
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: know who it is. You don't who could use against
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: the grills right now? Who could use one? I'll tell
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: you who could use against the grills. The baby could
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: use against the grills right now, shout to the baby.
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: It's not it. The baby could use it as grills.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: We've talked, we've talked. There's nobody from Utah, it's nobody
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: from from my all right, listen, you're gonna have to
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: just tell me off the fucking came, of course, yeah
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: once once. The interviews are from Missouri. Who what other
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: cities are in Missouri. What's that Saint Louis Mmmm, continued, Yeah,
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: you gotta think that's gonna fox some shuit up too, Like,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: oh shit, Dirk, Dirk, Dirk has like three Gangster Girls
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: under his belt. See, I'm fucking I'm not a little
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: Dirk fan. So I also like, don't like, it's not
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: like I'm not not a fan, but I'm also like,
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: I'm not like running too a gangster girls from Little
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: Dirk from I'm sure what that was like twenty twelve,
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: thirteen fourteen, Like, yeah, I'm just not interested at that time.
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: I'm not. Yeah, shouts shout uh to Dirk. Though, well, listen, man,
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: I appreciate you pulling up the new albums coming in April. Nah,
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: three thirty one, three thirty oh ship, Yeah it's coming
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: real soon. Yeah, it's on the way. I can't wait
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: to hear the Blast and Nipsey song. Can't wait for
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: you there, can't wait for you to see this roll

- 1:37:10Speaker 1: then then a possible deluxe have you and Dj Khaled
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: ever screamed on the same song. Yes, okay, that's all
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: last thing. Yep, we've screamed on the same song. Which one?
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: Which song was that? We've both been on raw song together.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: We both were on a case Sleay song together. Rest
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: in Peace man. Yep, I did the hook. I think
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: cal it rapped. I'm glad he stopped doing that. What. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: I mean it's kind of dope though, if you think
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: about it, because then it gives you something to perform
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: when you have true you know what I'm saying. What
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: you think I'm not full? Yeah? Yeah, I mean it was.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: You know, if I could rap, I would do it.
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: You never rapped, there's not. Recently though, I've been making
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: my ship rhyme a little more. No, I'm lying. I
