- 1:25Speaker 3: Return to Glory podcast owner's Arbaniki to go to free
- 1:28Speaker 3: Tag Austin. Hopefully we'll be joining us here in a
- 1:32Speaker 3: little bit. It's Thursday morning, bright and early. It's also
- 1:36Speaker 3: a short week, Minnesota week, Friday night at Minneapolis DAK.
- 1:45Speaker 3: You're a Golden Gopher fan.
- 1:46Speaker 6: Row the Boat. I got the damn I didn't wear
- 1:51Speaker 6: the shirt today. I do have a shirt that says
- 1:52Speaker 6: row the Boat.
- 1:54Speaker 3: One of your self proclaimed fandom teams that you're.
- 1:58Speaker 6: Now, Atta, I will not I will not ever say
- 2:02Speaker 6: I'm a Gophers fan.
- 2:03Speaker 7: I watched them casually.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Nope, you have said that, You've said you're a Minnesota
- 2:06Speaker 3: fan before the Gophers.
- 2:08Speaker 6: If they're like, yeah, yes, I'll root for them. They're
- 2:12Speaker 6: playing like Purdue or like Rucker or something like that,
- 2:15Speaker 6: I'm not going to root for them. They play Nebraska
- 2:17Speaker 6: or any like Okay, they play anybody who size Nebraska.
- 2:20Speaker 7: And Oklahoma, and that's it. I will root for the Gophers. Yes.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Uh. In the Vikings and if anybody goes to the Vikings.
- 2:32Speaker 6: Yep, Max Max Rosmer is there this year. What did
- 2:35Speaker 6: you think of him last year?
- 2:38Speaker 3: He's great?
- 2:39Speaker 7: Yeah, he is. Hey.
- 2:41Speaker 6: The good part is from uh from our last podcast
- 2:46Speaker 6: on Sunday, and now we don't have much talk about
- 2:48Speaker 6: There hasn't been much in the news.
- 2:51Speaker 3: No, and I do want to talk about that. I'd
- 2:55Speaker 3: like to wait for get Austin on here, but that
- 2:57Speaker 3: we're just going to do it now because I think
- 3:01Speaker 3: that's the juice of the week, and the juice we're
- 3:06Speaker 3: talking about, obviously is Matt Rule rumored to be a
- 3:12Speaker 3: leading candidate at the job at Penn States, which we
- 3:16Speaker 3: mentioned at the end of the previous episode that was
- 3:20Speaker 3: prior to Rule's press conference on Monday, where he addressed
- 3:25Speaker 3: it for about ten or fifteen minutes of the beginning
- 3:26Speaker 3: of his press conference, and that's been the main topic
- 3:30Speaker 3: of conversation here amongst Husker nation this week. Here's what
- 3:35Speaker 3: I don't want to do, Dak. I don't want to
- 3:38Speaker 3: sit here and talk about this for every week until
- 3:46Speaker 3: the end of the year. I want to get this
- 3:50Speaker 3: out of the way. I want to talk about it,
- 3:54Speaker 3: express our thoughts on it, and then move on and
- 3:58Speaker 3: we'll see what happens. I hope that that is how
- 4:03Speaker 3: the rest of Nebraska handles it as well. I just
- 4:10Speaker 3: don't know that that will be it. Talk about distractions,
- 4:16Speaker 3: talk about other things. Of course, when things are going
- 4:19Speaker 3: well for US five and one favorable schedule, something like
- 4:26Speaker 3: this has to come in and throw a wrench and everything.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I do think Rule does a good job of keeping
- 4:31Speaker 3: people focused and locked in and avoiding outside noise. It's
- 4:37Speaker 3: kind of been a message all year, to be honest,
- 4:39Speaker 3: prior to any of this. But that being said, naturally,
- 4:46Speaker 3: the conversation and the noise is going to be there
- 4:51Speaker 3: for Rule, potentially leaving to going to Penn State.
- 4:56Speaker 6: See, that's the way it should be, is with the
- 5:00Speaker 6: me and everything. They've already asked them all these questions.
- 5:03Speaker 6: Just ask the US one week. Can let it die,
- 5:05Speaker 6: Just play the rest season. Don't bring up every which
- 5:08Speaker 6: is gonna be brought up a lot the fans and everything,
- 5:10Speaker 6: well bring it up. But in a perfect world, we
- 5:13Speaker 6: hope that it's done after this week and dead.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Now.
- 5:16Speaker 6: The only week I think that we my mentioning after
- 5:19Speaker 6: this is the Penn State game. We we will talk
- 5:22Speaker 6: about that week because obviously there's there's a reason there
- 5:26Speaker 6: we'll talk about it. But but yeah, it's which we're
- 5:32Speaker 6: gonna dive into your second. It's a it's a bad
- 5:35Speaker 6: situation just because Nebraska's finally turned the corner and something
- 5:39Speaker 6: like this happens, or at least we feel like nebrask
- 5:42Speaker 6: fans turned the corner.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we're moving. We're ranked again right for
- 5:47Speaker 3: the first time in a long time. And it's not
- 5:51Speaker 3: like we play some of the top teams in the
- 5:52Speaker 3: Big Ten coming up, like we have very winnable games.
- 5:58Speaker 3: If we do this right as a program, including everybody involved,
- 6:08Speaker 3: this should not affect the direction of Nebraska football moving forward.
- 6:16Speaker 3: And that's if a rule stays or leaves. I don't
- 6:22Speaker 3: want people to think all rule's gone we have to restart, No,
- 6:25Speaker 3: we don't. No matter what progress we're making now, we
- 6:30Speaker 3: can build on that if rule leaves. If he doesn't leave, obviously,
- 6:38Speaker 3: I think we all are in pretty much agreemance that
- 6:42Speaker 3: we're feeling like we're moving in the right direction. Now.
- 6:45Speaker 3: There's obviously six games left too, it's not like we're back,
- 6:49Speaker 3: like back back to where we need to be, Like,
- 6:51Speaker 3: we're still we're moving there.
- 6:55Speaker 6: Before before you dive into it, can I are we
- 6:58Speaker 6: both in agreement if he is offer the job he
- 7:00Speaker 6: taking it?
- 7:00Speaker 7: Right?
- 7:01Speaker 3: Well? Yeah, And I think there's a lot of questions
- 7:03Speaker 3: to ask, and we'll ask Austin right when he joins, Like,
- 7:10Speaker 3: but there's two questions I think, first question, do you
- 7:16Speaker 3: think that he gets offered the job? Yes or no?
- 7:19Speaker 3: And then two, if he gets offered the job, will
- 7:22Speaker 3: he take it? So you asked, if he gets offered
- 7:24Speaker 3: the job, will he take it? I'm saying yes.
- 7:27Speaker 7: To that one hundred percent. Yes.
- 7:29Speaker 3: I think you're saying yes to that. And then second part,
- 7:34Speaker 3: do you think he gets offered the job yes or no.
- 7:40Speaker 6: I it was up to the AD. Yes, because it
- 7:44Speaker 6: sounds like they're best friends. But you rob up a
- 7:45Speaker 6: good point. I completely forgot about it's not up to
- 7:48Speaker 6: the AD, it's up to the donors. And I was
- 7:50Speaker 6: listening to different podcasts about this, which this throws a
- 7:53Speaker 6: little wrink on that Penn State game. Is when he
- 7:56Speaker 6: goes to Penn State sant Embraska blows him out? Is
- 7:59Speaker 6: that good or bad for Nebraska because the fans there'd
- 8:03Speaker 6: be like, holy crap.
- 8:04Speaker 7: We might actually want him.
- 8:06Speaker 6: So that's like, that's another wrinkle on that game is
- 8:08Speaker 6: do you wanna do you want to look fantastic in
- 8:11Speaker 6: that game? Because that's like his showing out body for
- 8:14Speaker 6: Penn State kind of.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I I'm going with yes. Basically to summarize my thought.
- 8:29Speaker 3: If I had to make a prediction, I'm gonna say
- 8:30Speaker 3: he's coaching at Penn State next year. But yes, that
- 8:36Speaker 3: Dak you you made a great point. I do think
- 8:39Speaker 3: that it's up to the AD like to make the
- 8:45Speaker 3: call and the announcement and basically assume it's his decision.
- 8:52Speaker 3: But when we talked about it with all of the
- 8:54Speaker 3: Nebraska coaches that we've hired, in the past and football,
- 8:59Speaker 3: but other sports included. It's up to the people that
- 9:04Speaker 3: have the money. And all of these people, I mean
- 9:08Speaker 3: there's a lot of them, right You're talking about the donors,
- 9:11Speaker 3: the board of directors that are out there at Penn State.
- 9:13Speaker 3: You're talking about a ton of different people. I mean,
- 9:18Speaker 3: now with nil, there's more than that. Now there's collectives.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Everyone that has the money are the ones that are
- 9:24Speaker 3: going to be driving the decision on whether Rule is
- 9:29Speaker 3: the guy or not. We don't know. We're never going
- 9:34Speaker 3: to know the insight to those people. The AD might
- 9:36Speaker 3: have his opinions. We know the connection with the AD.
- 9:39Speaker 3: I even learned a little bit even more about rules
- 9:43Speaker 3: connection there and that he went to high school in
- 9:46Speaker 3: State College. And if people don't know State College is
- 9:50Speaker 3: in the middle of nowhere, Penn State, Like it's not
- 9:52Speaker 3: like it's a metro area. So like Rules ties to
- 9:57Speaker 3: Penn State are like strong and very deep as far
- 10:00Speaker 3: as I mean it's home. I'll bet you if you
- 10:03Speaker 3: ask him, Matt, where are you from, and he's going
- 10:08Speaker 3: to answer State College, Pennsylvania like that, that's that's just
- 10:12Speaker 3: his answer. So I I do think yes, if he
- 10:15Speaker 3: gets offered the job. He's probably gonna take it, and
- 10:19Speaker 3: and and and that that's the reality of it. I
- 10:21Speaker 3: just think that's that's it. The question is will he
- 10:25Speaker 3: Austin is here now, Austin. We have two questions. One,
- 10:32Speaker 3: if Matt Ruld gets offered the job, will he take it?
- 10:35Speaker 3: Yes or no? That's what we just did that reaction. No, okay,
- 10:41Speaker 3: do you think he gets offered the job? That was
- 10:43Speaker 3: the second question. No okay, I said, he asked to both.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Dak said yes and.
- 10:52Speaker 7: Leaning yes, but not one hund percent yes on the
- 10:56Speaker 7: other one.
- 10:59Speaker 3: No, I'll so we said, we're only talking about this
- 11:03Speaker 3: now for like half of this episode, and then we're
- 11:06Speaker 3: not talking about.
- 11:07Speaker 7: It again besides the Penn State preview.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Unless there's like actual news that comes out that he
- 11:13Speaker 3: does or doesn't take it. But yes, I understand your statement.
- 11:19Speaker 8: And definitely when you watch the the press conference for
- 11:22Speaker 8: both Penn State and Matt Rule, it felt like the
- 11:26Speaker 8: Penn State guy was laying the groundwork to hire Matt Rules.
- 11:29Speaker 8: He's basically repeating a bunch of things Matt Rule always says.
- 11:32Speaker 8: And then Matt Rule was like, hey, man, like I
- 11:37Speaker 8: think he said, that's where I'm from. You know I
- 11:40Speaker 8: I grew. I probably came out of the womb. We're
- 11:42Speaker 8: in Penn State, Jersey. It's like, I don't know, those
- 11:46Speaker 8: are some weird things to say when you're coaching another team.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Rules Rule is going to say it as it is.
- 11:54Speaker 3: He said to He's going to be transparent and honest
- 11:56Speaker 3: with his guys too, Like that's we know, that's Rule's personality.
- 11:59Speaker 3: So I am not surprised the way it came out
- 12:02Speaker 3: and the way he talked Monday that he literally just
- 12:06Speaker 3: speaks his mind a lot to the point where all
- 12:11Speaker 3: the way to where he can. So yes, I agree
- 12:13Speaker 3: that know how it came out.
- 12:15Speaker 8: And then yesterday or two days ago where he's talking about,
- 12:19Speaker 8: you know, Nebraska needs to spend more money, Like I
- 12:24Speaker 8: can't tell if he's just if he's trying to squeeze
- 12:26Speaker 8: more money out of the boosters or.
- 12:30Speaker 2: What.
- 12:31Speaker 8: I just if I am a Penn State fan, if
- 12:35Speaker 8: I'm Penn State, you fire a guy because he could
- 12:37Speaker 8: win the big games.
- 12:38Speaker 3: I just struggled to be like, we're gonna.
- 12:40Speaker 8: Hire this guy, and it really depends on how the
- 12:43Speaker 8: year goes, I guess, but Rules one and twenty against
- 12:47Speaker 8: Top twenty five teams in his career, Like, I just don't.
- 12:51Speaker 8: I can't see you justifying that well, being like, hey,
- 12:56Speaker 8: we just fired a guy who was fifteen and twenty
- 12:57Speaker 8: six against big teams because he couldn't get done, and
- 13:00Speaker 8: we're gonna hire this other guy who has also no
- 13:02Speaker 8: proven record. That's something you have to hire someone who's
- 13:05Speaker 8: had some some success again strength opponents.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Maybe I'm being negligent or just you know, in denial,
- 13:14Speaker 3: but yep, a couple of things. I'm back there. First
- 13:20Speaker 3: with the Penn State wanting him. I we know nothing.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Everything that Husker fans are saying and that you're probably
- 13:30Speaker 3: reading and seeing and hearing like is all complete speculation
- 13:34Speaker 3: from a Nebraska fans perspective, Like we I know one
- 13:38Speaker 3: PI Penn State fan, my uncle, and he wants Rule.
- 13:43Speaker 3: He thinks he'd be a good coach. He lives out
- 13:46Speaker 3: in Maryland, is actually who he visited out there, and
- 13:50Speaker 3: he thinks Rule would be a good hire. That's the
- 13:53Speaker 3: only person I know. I don't know anything about their boosters.
- 13:56Speaker 3: And again the ad we know that situation, we don't know.
- 14:00Speaker 3: We're just speculating based on what we're hearing now. And
- 14:03Speaker 3: of course the people that want Rule to stay, They're
- 14:05Speaker 3: going to give reasons why he wouldn't be a he
- 14:09Speaker 3: wouldn't be a good hire for Penn State. My question,
- 14:13Speaker 3: I guess when you go through that list, and actually
- 14:15Speaker 3: kind of when we go through the list of play
- 14:18Speaker 3: the what if card if Rule's gone the list for Nebraska, like,
- 14:20Speaker 3: who are the other coaches out there that.
- 14:23Speaker 8: That's that is a good counterpoint that's.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Right now are in candidacy for that job? And and
- 14:29Speaker 3: some of the things. You know, there's a whole bunch
- 14:31Speaker 3: of names out there. Penn State is a very top
- 14:33Speaker 3: tier job in the country.
- 14:35Speaker 8: So you can you get a bigger you have a
- 14:38Speaker 8: bigger list to pick from when you're Penn State.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Do so? Like who the people are? I mean you
- 14:45Speaker 3: could you could throw out a ton of names. How
- 14:49Speaker 3: many proven you know, proven successful coaches right now are
- 14:54Speaker 3: there in college football?
- 14:57Speaker 7: That's not want many?
- 15:00Speaker 3: Yes, So that's the other caveat to that is, yes,
- 15:05Speaker 3: that narrative of Rule has not won big games a lot. Yeah,
- 15:08Speaker 3: he hasn't proven that yet. Rule right now is a
- 15:12Speaker 3: everywhere he's been what kind of coaches? He's a rebuilder?
- 15:16Speaker 3: Penn State doesn't need rebuilt Penn State's built already. They
- 15:20Speaker 3: need someone that can win immediately and now they need
- 15:25Speaker 3: probably some culture things to change a little bit, and
- 15:29Speaker 3: an in game type coach rules. Not an in game
- 15:32Speaker 3: coach though, like that was the concern with Penn State
- 15:35Speaker 3: was didn't know how to coach in games. They had
- 15:37Speaker 3: the players of talent. Culture is pretty good, but they
- 15:40Speaker 3: just they just don't know how to win the games correctly.
- 15:43Speaker 3: What that's not really rule don't win the games correct
- 15:47Speaker 3: They just don't know how to win one or two
- 15:48Speaker 3: games a year. Right.
- 15:50Speaker 6: Here's the thing about him being a rebuilder though he
- 15:52Speaker 6: doesn't coached a team that's been already built. Baylor, Temple,
- 15:55Speaker 6: and Nebraska all need to rebuilt. So we don't know
- 15:57Speaker 6: how he jumped into a team that's already built.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Right, that's the unknown.
- 16:03Speaker 8: No, I definitely see I could see it. I'm not
- 16:06Speaker 8: I would not be shocked if it happened.
- 16:09Speaker 6: And would you be mad if you live for Penn
- 16:12Speaker 6: State Austin.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Would I be mad?
- 16:16Speaker 8: I'd be mad if he left and then took Dylan
- 16:18Speaker 8: Roola and Mike g.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Eckler and Dana Holkerson.
- 16:22Speaker 8: Yeah, that would that would be the part it wouldn't
- 16:25Speaker 8: be the if he left. It's like, okay, but if
- 16:27Speaker 8: he gets the team in the process and takes all
- 16:29Speaker 8: of our good players and our best coaches, which is,
- 16:32Speaker 8: you know, a real thing that very well could happen,
- 16:38Speaker 8: I would be devastated. It'd be like all the last
- 16:42Speaker 8: three years didn't matter. We're starting from square one.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Okay. I know we're talking in a lot of circles,
- 16:50Speaker 3: but I want to come back to all that. What
- 16:53Speaker 3: you just said, could I do? Actually, you know what,
- 16:55Speaker 3: we'll just figure I got with that. I don't think
- 17:02Speaker 3: that it's going to affect our program much. I don't
- 17:06Speaker 3: think Dylan's leaving. I don't know about like Eckler. I
- 17:09Speaker 3: don't think Eckler's probably leaving. I don't know that if
- 17:13Speaker 3: Rule takes that job, things have to change much for
- 17:16Speaker 3: a Rascal football. As far as the momentum that we
- 17:19Speaker 3: have currently sitting right now on October sixteenth, we obviously
- 17:24Speaker 3: still have a season spiral here. And the question that
- 17:29Speaker 3: the point here is our season doesn't have to spiral,
- 17:33Speaker 3: and it shouldn't spiral if we don't as fans and
- 17:39Speaker 3: media and outside forces force it upon the team to
- 17:44Speaker 3: make it a big deal and we talk about outside noise. Yes,
- 17:48Speaker 3: there's going to be natural spot here and this week's
- 17:51Speaker 3: going to be the heavy, heavy one because the news
- 17:53Speaker 3: came out and it's going to stay around. I hope,
- 17:56Speaker 3: and I think we won't hear stuff here for a while.
- 17:59Speaker 3: If it's real. It's not Rule because right now it's
- 18:01Speaker 3: still the middle of the season and there's probably a
- 18:05Speaker 3: lot of discussions and things like that and Penn State
- 18:10Speaker 3: to do before naming a head coach. So if we
- 18:14Speaker 3: stay out of it and not keep poking the bear
- 18:20Speaker 3: and the conversation, regardless whether Rule leaves or stays, we're
- 18:26Speaker 3: sitting in a good spot for moving forward. Assuming this
- 18:29Speaker 3: year we just we can ignore it and continue to
- 18:31Speaker 3: build them where we're at if we don't. If we don't,
- 18:36Speaker 3: I think it will be our fans in media's ignorance again.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I'm glad Thursday. I watch Thursday's press conference. I'm like,
- 18:43Speaker 3: please God, nobody asked him about Penn State again, and
- 18:47Speaker 3: nobody did, and it was I was like, well, okay, okay,
- 18:49Speaker 3: like this is good. Sorry Wednesday's press conference because today's Thursday.
- 18:57Speaker 3: So I was like, okay, we didn't. Of course, the
- 18:59Speaker 3: first question Monday, though. We talked about it for a
- 19:01Speaker 3: while and I was like, oh boy, and Rule handled
- 19:04Speaker 3: it like you should. You have to ask on Monday.
- 19:06Speaker 3: You have to ask, you do. But guess what the
- 19:10Speaker 3: leading job and it's a little bit different. Here's another
- 19:13Speaker 3: leading candidate right now that you guys have heard say
- 19:18Speaker 3: Boom Signetti. Guess what Monday's Indiana press conference. Not a
- 19:23Speaker 3: single person.
- 19:23Speaker 8: Yes, there is a total difference when the GM or
- 19:28Speaker 8: the you know, the AD is like your best but
- 19:30Speaker 8: you grew up in Penn stage.
- 19:32Speaker 3: A little bit. Yes there is. Rule is total difference
- 19:36Speaker 3: the leading leading candiate. But Signetti is another one and
- 19:39Speaker 3: they didn't ask him about it. So what I'm just saying,
- 19:40Speaker 3: and I'm glad the Husker media has not brought it
- 19:43Speaker 3: up again yet, Like we got his opinion, We know
- 19:47Speaker 3: where he sits right now on it all. Whether you
- 19:50Speaker 3: like it or not, some people didn't like it or
- 19:54Speaker 3: aren't gonna like it. For the future here, we don't
- 19:56Speaker 3: have to let it derail our program. Rule is done
- 19:59Speaker 3: a pretty damn good job of getting building us. I'm
- 20:04Speaker 3: not gonna say complete read, but building us in a
- 20:07Speaker 3: positive direction so far. We can keep building on that
- 20:11Speaker 3: obviously with him here. But even if he decides to go,
- 20:16Speaker 3: we don't have to blow it all up, because if
- 20:18Speaker 3: we blow it up and make it a big deal
- 20:20Speaker 3: and say why would you leave? Oh, guess what, he
- 20:24Speaker 3: probably is going to go to Dylan Rayola. A little
- 20:26Speaker 3: more push here, and he probably is gonna go ton
- 20:29Speaker 3: Isaiah Hunter, probably is going to go to Rex Guthrie
- 20:31Speaker 3: and probably I mean, he's gonna try anyways, but if
- 20:34Speaker 3: you really disrupt the situation, he's gonna try even more
- 20:37Speaker 3: to say come with me, get get out of this place.
- 20:39Speaker 3: They're toxic, Mike. I'm not saying he's going to call
- 20:42Speaker 3: us toxic puppy. He's not ever gonna say that publicly,
- 20:44Speaker 3: probably not even ever gonna say it to the players.
- 20:46Speaker 3: But the more reason that you give him and negatively
- 20:52Speaker 3: have that perception of him leaving, it's going to set
- 20:55Speaker 3: us back here further. And Austin what you said, he
- 20:59Speaker 3: could take a lot of people, and if that scenario
- 21:01Speaker 3: does happen, then we are back, not back to square one,
- 21:04Speaker 3: but we take a big step back of having to
- 21:08Speaker 3: rebuild again. We don't have to do that. If Rule
- 21:11Speaker 3: wants to leave, and it makes sense.
- 21:15Speaker 8: I think the most comforting thing that happened was when
- 21:19Speaker 8: Roola got asked about it.
- 21:20Speaker 3: He's like, he's not going anywhere. He's our coach.
- 21:22Speaker 8: So that means like rule has addressed in the locker
- 21:24Speaker 8: room and he's not gonna want to derail this season.
- 21:29Speaker 3: I do believe on that whole side of things, like I,
- 21:33Speaker 3: out of any human being to handle it with college
- 21:37Speaker 3: kids rules, the best person to do that. He just
- 21:43Speaker 3: he's very good at that stuff. And I do think
- 21:47Speaker 3: you know, coaches can be the sleeve balls and say no, no, no, no,
- 21:51Speaker 3: I'm not going anywhere, and they say it publicly and
- 21:53Speaker 3: then two days later it's announced and everybody's like, what
- 21:55Speaker 3: the fuck, It's not gonna happen with rule.
- 21:59Speaker 7: Yep Ah, he did that barely with the Panthers.
- 22:04Speaker 3: It's not gonna happen with the rule here.
- 22:07Speaker 7: No, I don't.
- 22:08Speaker 6: I don't think that he's he wants to leave ne
- 22:10Speaker 6: brass if if he does leave a pissy, he won't leave.
- 22:13Speaker 7: Nebraska in a good spot.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Everybody does. Yeah.
- 22:16Speaker 6: Now, like you're saying is if the fans and the
- 22:20Speaker 6: media turn on him, he's gonna say at this I'm
- 22:23Speaker 6: not gonna leave a good spot hands.
- 22:25Speaker 8: The media won't turn on They didn't even turn on
- 22:27Speaker 8: Scott Frost and he was terrible. The fans did, but
- 22:31Speaker 8: the media did not.
- 22:34Speaker 3: And I wouldn't say when I say, when I say
- 22:36Speaker 3: turn I don't think any of us are gonna say,
- 22:39Speaker 3: you're a dumb idiot. Why why would you go like?
- 22:42Speaker 7: But more annoy him.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Annoy annoy him, and again pending how the year goes
- 22:47Speaker 3: to finish the year out. If we start, if we
- 22:51Speaker 3: lose a couple of games, hopefully we don't, hopefully we
- 22:53Speaker 3: just keep winning, then things are really good. We're in
- 22:56Speaker 3: a good spot. But if we start to lose a
- 22:58Speaker 3: couple of games, start throwing that out there as an
- 23:03Speaker 3: excuse or a reason for why we're losing. Oh, is
- 23:08Speaker 3: you you think this this the loss to Minnesota? Do
- 23:12Speaker 3: you think this week? You know, distraction with all of
- 23:14Speaker 3: Penn State and everything was a was a big factor
- 23:17Speaker 3: here and losing this game and bringing up that a lot.
- 23:20Speaker 3: That was my best Seohn Callahan impression, by the way,
- 23:23Speaker 3: Uh do you think that?
- 23:25Speaker 2: Uh?
- 23:26Speaker 3: I think you know that that's gonna be a conversation. Rules.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Rule's gonna get sick of hearing that. If we're losing
- 23:31Speaker 3: a game or losing games because he won't believe and
- 23:36Speaker 3: I don't. I won't either, Like, that's not why we're losing.
- 23:38Speaker 3: He's still trying to build, he's trying to leave. If
- 23:41Speaker 3: he is leaving, he's trying to leave Nebraska at a good
- 23:43Speaker 3: spot because I do think he truly cares about this
- 23:45Speaker 3: place and loves it here. So it's not there's obviously
- 23:48Speaker 3: no ill will against Nebraska unless we give him ill
- 23:51Speaker 3: will against Nebraska.
- 23:54Speaker 8: That being said, I do think if he was leaving,
- 23:56Speaker 8: he's definitely he's not not gonna be like, hey, you
- 24:00Speaker 8: guys want to come play for me in Penn State.
- 24:03Speaker 3: We can make it happen. If Real is like, hey,
- 24:05Speaker 3: I want to you know, if Real.
- 24:07Speaker 8: He I don't think he's gonna He's not gonna's gonna
- 24:09Speaker 8: be like Nebraska sex just come to Penn State with me.
- 24:13Speaker 8: But he's definitely gonna have the conversation of oh yeah,
- 24:16Speaker 8: pastors my friend, oh yeah.
- 24:21Speaker 3: And that leads into Austin what you mentioned earlier too
- 24:23Speaker 3: about just Rule's comments on the job itself. And I
- 24:31Speaker 3: do think this is kind of my big last thing
- 24:33Speaker 3: I want to unpack here before we start talking Minnesota. Sorry,
- 24:36Speaker 3: if you're here to listen to Minnesota preview, we have
- 24:39Speaker 3: we have we had to give our thoughts on this.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Ever wants to.
- 24:41Speaker 7: Hear, yeah, this is this is what they want to
- 24:43Speaker 7: hear about.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Well, I mean it's it's just what's the big news here?
- 24:47Speaker 3: So I have to do this one time. But the
- 24:52Speaker 3: job itself and Real talked a lot about that, and
- 24:54Speaker 3: and I thought I thought Rule was a master. On
- 24:57Speaker 3: Monday in his position on how he handled it, he
- 25:02Speaker 3: basically laid out his demands on what he thinks Nebraska
- 25:05Speaker 3: needs to be an elite program. And I get it.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Nebraska has a lot of resources. Nebraska is very well
- 25:16Speaker 3: off from a facility, resource, financial standpoint for where we
- 25:23Speaker 3: have performed the last fifteen years. But Rule's goal is
- 25:29Speaker 3: to coach for the top of the top, the cream
- 25:32Speaker 3: of the crop, the elite programs in college football. And
- 25:35Speaker 3: he mentioned some of the things that Nebraska was at
- 25:37Speaker 3: the forefront and at the cutting edge of when they
- 25:41Speaker 3: were really really good. We're not there, guys. We are
- 25:44Speaker 3: not a cutting edge program and a leader in a
- 25:48Speaker 3: lot of things right now. And he wants to be
- 25:51Speaker 3: all of the number he threw out the thirty to
- 25:54Speaker 3: forty million dollars roster thing, and I don't think he's
- 25:57Speaker 3: brought that up a few times. He brought it up
- 25:59Speaker 3: with the run back thing about needing to have the
- 26:04Speaker 3: money to you know, to pay people like that's a
- 26:09Speaker 3: real thing obviously in today's world. And we are we're not.
- 26:13Speaker 3: We are not an elite program in college football right now.
- 26:20Speaker 3: And and yeah, winning comes with a lot of that,
- 26:22Speaker 3: and that's part of it. We have not been very good,
- 26:26Speaker 3: but real wants to coach for an elite team. So
- 26:31Speaker 3: if you want to ask me what's the better job,
- 26:33Speaker 3: take all the past history out Penn State or Nebraska State.
- 26:39Speaker 6: But but I've heard of other fans saying that the
- 26:41Speaker 6: brass did better job, which is just they need their
- 26:44Speaker 6: rain checks.
- 26:45Speaker 3: I agree with that. That's and then and that that
- 26:48Speaker 3: get people do and and and that's my point is
- 26:50Speaker 3: we're naive. We're ni if you don't if you're not
- 26:54Speaker 3: ingrained in college football. And I'm not saying we are either,
- 26:59Speaker 3: But other schools are way are getting way more advanced
- 27:04Speaker 3: than we are. And yeah, we just had a brand
- 27:05Speaker 3: new update a facility for our practice facility. That's that's
- 27:08Speaker 3: a good step right, the stadium upgrades and all that.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Like that's another thing that kinda has gotten mentioned, like
- 27:14Speaker 3: we are again, we're good, like we're we're definitely a
- 27:18Speaker 3: seven or eight out of ten, but Rule wants to
- 27:20Speaker 3: be a ten out of ten. He doesn't want to
- 27:21Speaker 3: settle and say we'll get what we get what we're
- 27:24Speaker 3: willing to accept. We're okay with being a seven right after.
- 27:26Speaker 3: He wants to be a ten out of ten. And
- 27:29Speaker 3: those programs there's we could name dak and I did
- 27:32Speaker 3: it the other day. We probably named ten or fifteen
- 27:35Speaker 3: jobs from a big picture perspective are better than the
- 27:39Speaker 3: Nebraska job. And that's it's just a truth act.
- 27:45Speaker 7: It was like jobs that are you stay for life, right.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Like the job that there's probably you're not gonna take
- 27:51Speaker 3: much more of a step up.
- 27:54Speaker 7: Yeah, Infans State wasn't one of them.
- 27:55Speaker 3: But no, that's not even one of those. I would
- 28:00Speaker 3: say it, So we don't. I don't think people realize
- 28:04Speaker 3: there's way more money at some of these other schools.
- 28:07Speaker 3: There's more support from finan I mean financially is mainly
- 28:13Speaker 3: what I'm talking about. But that's the world we live
- 28:15Speaker 3: in because now it's with the players and everything that
- 28:17Speaker 3: goes along with college football is now with money. So
- 28:22Speaker 3: that being said, I think people have to bin that
- 28:25Speaker 3: in Nebraska is not the best job in the country
- 28:28Speaker 3: right now. It's just a fact until we get back
- 28:31Speaker 3: to the main thing is the winning.
- 28:34Speaker 8: The only time it was the best job in the
- 28:35Speaker 8: country is when Tom Osborne retired. Yep, when it's it
- 28:40Speaker 8: was a national championship in the brand was as big
- 28:43Speaker 8: as it'll ever get. It's tough because he's definitely talking nil.
- 28:47Speaker 8: I mean, he's saying we need more money, and I understand,
- 28:52Speaker 8: but you know, it's like there is a limit. Like
- 28:56Speaker 8: Nebraska's a state school. It has half the enrollment of
- 29:00Speaker 8: state like those like I just don't know if Nebraska
- 29:02Speaker 8: is ever going to be able to spend as much
- 29:04Speaker 8: money as p Yeah.
- 29:04Speaker 3: And there is a there is a I mean call
- 29:06Speaker 3: it a limit. But I guess that's what Rule's kind
- 29:08Speaker 3: of saying is is like, I don't he's I don't
- 29:11Speaker 3: care where it comes from. I I heard someone else say, people,
- 29:16Speaker 3: remember Warren Buffet's not a Nebraska fan, which I thought that.
- 29:19Speaker 3: I mean, if you didn't know, I didn't know that.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Whoever those people are, I don't know who those are.
- 29:25Speaker 3: It's not us like Austin from me. I, I just
- 29:32Speaker 3: that it's a big deal, Like we have the eighteen
- 29:34Speaker 3: ninety that's great. I heard that was it last year?
- 29:38Speaker 3: I heard Texas A and M had it was like
- 29:41Speaker 3: twenty something different collectives that they are conglomerates that are
- 29:47Speaker 3: raising funds we have won. Yeah, they have an oil country.
- 29:51Speaker 3: We're not. We're not back to those bankers. And that's
- 29:56Speaker 3: the world we live in. So yeah, he's he's speaking
- 29:58Speaker 3: to that all like he is. He is expressing that
- 30:02Speaker 3: as the current head coach in Nebraska. So like I thought,
- 30:06Speaker 3: I thought, But that's that's the reality of it. If
- 30:08Speaker 3: you want to be he's not settling for being. We're
- 30:11Speaker 3: gonna be average, and we're gonna be we're good at
- 30:13Speaker 3: going eight and four, nine and three, competing for a play.
- 30:16Speaker 3: He's he wants to be elite at Penn State. He
- 30:19Speaker 3: has the ability to be elite if if things go
- 30:22Speaker 3: well at Nebraska. What is our ceiling? What's our ceiling?
- 30:26Speaker 3: Cant can we can we buy enough players and roster
- 30:30Speaker 3: and talent to ever win a national title again? I
- 30:34Speaker 3: don't know if we can right now, Like you said,
- 30:36Speaker 3: Austin is where we're at. It's just that's part of
- 30:38Speaker 3: it unless something changes. So that's what he's saying. That's
- 30:42Speaker 3: exactly what he's saying. Yeah, I mean, yes, the team
- 30:49Speaker 3: can win with less money. Can It's a lot harder.
- 30:55Speaker 3: And I think it's either that there's the plea of
- 31:00Speaker 3: there needs to be a cap or we need more money.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Like that's that's basically what he's saying, right because we
- 31:07Speaker 3: can't compete and we're not the only school in Minnesota's,
- 31:10Speaker 3: Wisconsin and Iowa's again we're where I would say we're
- 31:16Speaker 3: out or above all those schools. Right It's we're talking,
- 31:19Speaker 3: we're talking elite, and we're not in any position to
- 31:21Speaker 3: compete with the elites right now. We're even put ourselves
- 31:23Speaker 3: in the conversation. But for rules sake, like you should
- 31:28Speaker 3: want that. That's what you should want as a competitor,
- 31:30Speaker 3: as a head coach is to be elite, top of
- 31:33Speaker 3: the line and everything that we do. And that's what
- 31:35Speaker 3: he's talking about.
- 31:37Speaker 6: And it's lots off for now if there's nil era
- 31:40Speaker 6: that we're in, like it's wait, which I was gonna
- 31:44Speaker 6: I didn't know Warren Buffet was not ambrass fan. I
- 31:46Speaker 6: was gonna say, don't we have one of the richest
- 31:48Speaker 6: people in the war are in the country, in the
- 31:50Speaker 6: state here, throw some money, winkin warn and Buffett at
- 31:54Speaker 6: the program.
- 31:57Speaker 8: There are plenty of rich people that come through Nebraska.
- 32:00Speaker 8: They're Nebraska fans, but we're not. Like I said, a
- 32:04Speaker 8: majority of students.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Are farmers or in state.
- 32:10Speaker 8: And it you know, our pool is a lot smaller
- 32:13Speaker 8: to squeeze from.
- 32:15Speaker 3: And the last thing that I heard that I loved
- 32:18Speaker 3: this week too. We have to kind of get out
- 32:22Speaker 3: of in what we're saying here too. We have to
- 32:25Speaker 3: get out of the quote unquote Nebraska way when it
- 32:28Speaker 3: comes to spending money. I think Nebraska people have that
- 32:32Speaker 3: blue collar, tough nose mindset of no, we can just
- 32:35Speaker 3: win on toughness and grits, and we can drive a
- 32:38Speaker 3: beat up Chevy. We don't have to day, we don't
- 32:44Speaker 3: have to drive the twenty twenty five for f one fifty.
- 32:47Speaker 3: We can we can drive. We can drive the beat
- 32:49Speaker 3: up and still kick your ass like I'm sorry, people
- 32:53Speaker 3: like we can't do that right now now, Austin, I agree.
- 32:56Speaker 3: You get a cap on it on money and we're
- 33:00Speaker 3: at that Max along with fifty other schools. Okay, we
- 33:04Speaker 3: can go back to that narrative a little bit, but
- 33:06Speaker 3: we're not there. It's it is you got to compete
- 33:10Speaker 3: with the elite programs. You have to buy them right now,
- 33:14Speaker 3: and you have to have the access to that capital
- 33:16Speaker 3: to do that. And I'm completely in agrance we don't
- 33:20Speaker 3: have the same ability as some of these other schools.
- 33:29Speaker 6: Before we dive in Minnesota because it's our last podcast
- 33:31Speaker 6: talking about this, you have to think about this down
- 33:33Speaker 6: the road, and I a wild name throughout there. Say
- 33:36Speaker 6: Rule does leave, Who do you guys want as the
- 33:38Speaker 6: next head coach?
- 33:40Speaker 3: James Franklin. I don't want him. It won't be a
- 33:45Speaker 3: terrible higher No, I think.
- 33:48Speaker 7: I don't think. I don't want James Franklin.
- 33:51Speaker 3: He's he's too he's too he's too uptight for me.
- 33:54Speaker 3: He's too I don't know. Use USF the University of
- 33:59Speaker 3: the Word to head coach. Yeah, Golish would wouldn't be
- 34:03Speaker 3: I don't. I don't mind him. I still I still
- 34:06Speaker 3: really want Eckler. I don't know that Eckler will happen,
- 34:09Speaker 3: but I think that would be awesome. And you do
- 34:12Speaker 3: a damn good job.
- 34:13Speaker 6: I'm dead serious about the Eckler job or getting the
- 34:17Speaker 6: job here.
- 34:18Speaker 7: I think that he would be a hell of coach here.
- 34:20Speaker 7: Like that's serious. Now there's one name. I'm not that serious.
- 34:22Speaker 6: Found this is going to be the only podcast you
- 34:24Speaker 6: hear about this name thrown out there. What do you
- 34:27Speaker 6: guys think about will Compton get out of here just
- 34:32Speaker 6: saying effort he has no coaching experience, give him the job?
- 34:39Speaker 3: Okay, No, I'm the head coach, but being involved with
- 34:44Speaker 3: the new coach with some role sure, yes, not the
- 34:50Speaker 3: head coach, but on the staff, yes, potentially.
- 34:57Speaker 6: So so you want you want to just say we'll
- 34:59Speaker 6: just give him the head coaching job. No, I mean
- 35:03Speaker 6: that that could either if you get in that Dutch job,
- 35:05Speaker 6: if there's none between, it's gonna go absolutely fantastic, or
- 35:08Speaker 6: it's gonna a train wreck real quick. And I think
- 35:09Speaker 6: you'd lean towards streen wreck. But it'd be it'd be
- 35:14Speaker 6: wouldn't be as crazy on it. If he would get
- 35:16Speaker 6: the head coach job, would be like a show here basically.
- 35:21Speaker 8: Coches Georgia Tech's head coach. I think Nebraska would be
- 35:26Speaker 8: an upgrade.
- 35:26Speaker 7: Over What do you think about Signette. Do you think
- 35:29Speaker 7: he would Maybe he.
- 35:30Speaker 3: Would never, he's not even I don't think Nebraska spot
- 35:36Speaker 3: for him. I think a lot of the same coaches
- 35:38Speaker 3: that you're hearing right for the Penn State job, you're
- 35:40Speaker 3: gonna hear a lot of the same for Nebraska. Probably
- 35:44Speaker 3: admit a little bit of a step down, but it's close.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Like we're we're not We're We're an attractive job. We're
- 35:54Speaker 3: better than Virginia Tackle put like Virginia Tech looking for
- 35:56Speaker 3: a coach. We're higher than that. If it were to
- 35:59Speaker 3: open up the other one that I all throw out
- 36:01Speaker 3: there that I thought was interesting. Now, if Alabama keeps
- 36:06Speaker 3: winning and is in the playoffs and everything is not happening,
- 36:09Speaker 3: But if things fall off here with Klein de boor
- 36:15Speaker 3: at Alabama, I'm not saying he's not going to get fired,
- 36:19Speaker 3: but he might just get sick of the because yes,
- 36:24Speaker 3: comparisons banter and and I want to come back to
- 36:28Speaker 3: the middle. I remember he's from South Dakota, so come
- 36:31Speaker 3: back close to here. And also remember guess who hired
- 36:33Speaker 3: him at Washington, Troy Dannon. That's true, So again, he's
- 36:38Speaker 3: he's not leaving. Obviously. Take eleven and one but if
- 36:41Speaker 3: things fell off, they don't, they don't make the playoff.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Alabama fans are pissed. They want they want to change.
- 36:47Speaker 3: They're probably not going to fire him because he's still
- 36:50Speaker 3: in year was he year three now right year two,
- 36:56Speaker 3: So they're probably gonna fire him. But I could see
- 36:58Speaker 3: that being up. But you know, I don't. I shouldn't
- 37:03Speaker 3: say this. If I had to say yes or no,
- 37:05Speaker 3: will Roll be your head coach? A twenty twenty six
- 37:07Speaker 3: My I'm putting my money on no.
- 37:11Speaker 1: No.
- 37:13Speaker 3: I don't want you a lean I want you to
- 37:14Speaker 3: make a prediction. Nack No, Austin saying.
- 37:18Speaker 7: Yes, yes, you guys are a hard no on Dione
- 37:23Speaker 7: Sanders meaning.
- 37:24Speaker 3: The coach hard No, I'm muting you. Okay, okay, let's
- 37:32Speaker 3: move on. Minnesota talk here. That was that went longer
- 37:36Speaker 3: than I wanted to, but I think it's important give
- 37:38Speaker 3: our thoughts on it now. We're not going to talk
- 37:40Speaker 3: about it again.
- 37:41Speaker 7: Short week.
- 37:43Speaker 3: We play in less than forty eight hours here from
- 37:46Speaker 3: when we're recording this Thursday morning against the Gophers and Minnesota.
- 37:52Speaker 3: Minnesota's I didn't even look see what their record was,
- 37:57Speaker 3: but it's Minnesota.
- 37:58Speaker 7: I quorn too.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Four and two, Dak I think you mentioned to me
- 38:02Speaker 3: they are a different Minnesota team than what we're used to.
- 38:06Speaker 3: My brain has a hard time of me wrapping itself around.
- 38:09Speaker 3: I think they do have a quarterback that I mean,
- 38:11Speaker 3: the red shirt freshman. He's more of a passer than
- 38:16Speaker 3: a runner, which is what we've kind of seen now
- 38:21Speaker 3: that this guy maybe can't run at all, or the
- 38:23Speaker 3: other guys are a little more elusive that we've played
- 38:25Speaker 3: the past few games. Darius Taylor would him good running back.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Minnesota running backs have seemed to just feast on us
- 38:35Speaker 3: in the past several years, maybe not to the extent
- 38:37Speaker 3: that Iowa running backs have, but close to it. And
- 38:43Speaker 3: PJ Fleck I think has done a pretty good job
- 38:47Speaker 3: of just being consistent and consistently good at Minnesota. That's
- 38:52Speaker 3: my high level take on Minnesota. And it's hard to
- 38:54Speaker 3: win up there. It's been that there's a reason why
- 38:59Speaker 3: we've I don't I don't know what the status haven't
- 39:02Speaker 3: won there in a while and five years they you know,
- 39:07Speaker 3: even just playing them in general, that it just it's
- 39:09Speaker 3: a it's a tough team to beat. So I think
- 39:13Speaker 3: going up there's gonna be a challenge Obviously there's noise
- 39:15Speaker 3: this week. I think that's going to impact the team
- 39:18Speaker 3: to some extent. You hope it's very little, But this
- 39:22Speaker 3: team's gonna try to go We're gonna try to go
- 39:24Speaker 3: up there and win a football game and try to
- 39:26Speaker 3: block everything else out. And I do think we have
- 39:31Speaker 3: I think we're better than them from a roster standpoint.
- 39:35Speaker 3: I'm saying that a little bit of hesitancy, but I
- 39:38Speaker 3: do think what we've seen maybe we are. And it
- 39:42Speaker 3: reminds me a lot of where I felt on Real's
- 39:45Speaker 3: first game going up there, our very first game in
- 39:49Speaker 3: year one. Do you guys remember the point spread? No,
- 39:53Speaker 3: I don't remember the points spread from.
- 39:56Speaker 7: Seven and a half.
- 39:57Speaker 3: It was. It was seven and a half or seven
- 40:00Speaker 3: right now, and that's where it's sitting at now. You know,
- 40:02Speaker 3: it feels like we should win that game by a touchdown.
- 40:05Speaker 3: We went up there with our boy Jeff Simms. We
- 40:08Speaker 3: lost by a touchdown, lost by a touchdown. We were learning.
- 40:13Speaker 3: He was he was like he said, he was learning
- 40:15Speaker 3: the big ten. That was the first first game of
- 40:17Speaker 3: the year, and we also grown a lot. Yep, we've
- 40:23Speaker 3: lost the last five.
- 40:27Speaker 8: The last last time we played them, we lost by three,
- 40:29Speaker 8: and then we lost by seven seven seven seven, and
- 40:33Speaker 8: then we got walloped bye Minnesota one year. But yeah,
- 40:39Speaker 8: you're right, they're consistently good Minnesota. Hasn't Quaver made that jump?
- 40:47Speaker 3: I don't. Is PJ.
- 40:48Speaker 8: Fleck ever on the hot seat? Is this the series
- 40:50Speaker 8: on the hot seat? But they are foreign too. They
- 40:55Speaker 8: lost to Ohio State, so that one's kind of a
- 40:58Speaker 8: negligible law to an extent, because it's fair that they
- 41:03Speaker 8: could compete with Ohio State. But they also lost at
- 41:06Speaker 8: cal week three. Last week, they beat Purdue at home
- 41:11Speaker 8: by seven. They beat Rutgers by four or by three
- 41:15Speaker 8: before Ohio State at home, and the other two were there.
- 41:20Speaker 8: You know, they're tune up games. So again we're kind
- 41:23Speaker 8: of in the spot where they didn't beat Rutgers or
- 41:26Speaker 8: Purdue by a lot, but they did beat them at home,
- 41:30Speaker 8: and you know, we can read into that that maybe they're, oh,
- 41:39Speaker 8: they're probably they're probably worse than us, and we should win.
- 41:42Speaker 8: The spread opened at five and a half and has moved.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Up, so we got all the way up to the
- 41:46Speaker 3: nine and a half.
- 41:47Speaker 8: Yeah, but the fact that we're ranked makes me think
- 41:52Speaker 8: that we're gonna lose short week we went to Maryland.
- 41:56Speaker 8: I mean, honestly, it feels like there is there's there's
- 42:00Speaker 8: a fair amount of Penn State.
- 42:02Speaker 3: I understand that rules probably speaking in the.
- 42:04Speaker 8: Locker room, like hey, don't worry about this, guys, But
- 42:07Speaker 8: we were at Maryland last week and we come home
- 42:10Speaker 8: short week go up to Minneapolis. It feels a little
- 42:14Speaker 8: not trap gaming, but I mean it's one of the
- 42:18Speaker 8: larger spreads that gets most.
- 42:19Speaker 3: That we've had. We have not beat them in five years.
- 42:23Speaker 3: So if you were and I've said this, I think
- 42:27Speaker 3: every week this year going into the season and we
- 42:31Speaker 3: were looking at our schedule like this was one of
- 42:34Speaker 3: those games that people would they were calling it the
- 42:36Speaker 3: trap game, right, But I think every game if you
- 42:41Speaker 3: had to predict a spread or put a spread on it,
- 42:45Speaker 3: all the stuff the season's kind of been up and
- 42:49Speaker 3: down with news and stuff and the way the games
- 42:52Speaker 3: have gone, this is about what I expected coming into
- 42:54Speaker 3: the year. We'd beat a touchdown or less favorite on
- 42:58Speaker 3: the road and this is the trap game for whatever reason.
- 43:03Speaker 3: Where we're at in the season like that still is
- 43:06Speaker 3: a little bit how I feel. And now there's obviously
- 43:09Speaker 3: added elements to it because it is it's Minnesota that
- 43:14Speaker 3: we struggle with them. It's Friday night, it's I'm sure
- 43:17Speaker 3: Husker fans are going to travel, but I don't think
- 43:20Speaker 3: you're gonna get as many because it's a Friday night game.
- 43:23Speaker 3: It's harder to get to road. But people aren't going
- 43:25Speaker 3: to be able to leave after work on Friday or
- 43:28Speaker 3: travel Saturday morning. Whatever. Like it's it's Friday night, there's
- 43:31Speaker 3: gonna be a lot of Husker fans or I can
- 43:34Speaker 3: bet that too, but just maybe not as much as
- 43:36Speaker 3: there would be on Saturday.
- 43:38Speaker 6: It's gonna be it's gonna be a lot tougher road
- 43:41Speaker 6: environment in Maryland, like Minnesota is a good fan base.
- 43:46Speaker 6: I mean you're up there. Well is that two or
- 43:48Speaker 6: three years ago? And it was it was pretty loud
- 43:50Speaker 6: there for for a road game, like they're gonna it's
- 43:53Speaker 6: not gonna be Maryland where it's seventy fans, it's gonna
- 43:57Speaker 6: be it's gonna be tough.
- 43:58Speaker 8: For probably se Minnesota fans. Yeah, probably like thirty fans.
- 44:04Speaker 3: And I might even venture to go further in that.
- 44:06Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, I've been there twice. It's now Actually
- 44:10Speaker 3: right that Thursday night game, there weren't really Husker fans there.
- 44:13Speaker 3: I mean, I I I remember that there's a little
- 44:19Speaker 3: section that I was kind of we were kind of
- 44:20Speaker 3: sitting in. Was not very It was nothing like a
- 44:23Speaker 3: lot of the road games I've been to because of
- 44:25Speaker 3: it was a weak night. So yes, I'm with you.
- 44:30Speaker 6: The thing about p J. Fleck is he just he
- 44:33Speaker 6: finds a way to win it. Time reminds me of
- 44:36Speaker 6: Farens that I was, which it's not to that extreme,
- 44:38Speaker 6: but he just finds a way to scratch out wins.
- 44:42Speaker 3: It.
- 44:42Speaker 6: It talently has like Minnesota always has, seems like lesser talent,
- 44:46Speaker 6: but he always gets his teams to seven eight wins
- 44:50Speaker 6: and and hangs with likes of Nebraska. They usually get
- 44:54Speaker 6: blown out by Ohio State, Pans State, but they always
- 44:56Speaker 6: hang around with these mid tier teams, and then they
- 45:01Speaker 6: usually come out with the win against Nebrasket, which is
- 45:05Speaker 6: which way it's men.
- 45:08Speaker 7: It'll it'll be interesting to see which.
- 45:11Speaker 6: Which I've never saw this watching the Gophers being a
- 45:15Speaker 6: past first team and I don't know, I don't know
- 45:19Speaker 6: how that's gone so far, but I don't know, like
- 45:22Speaker 6: last week with the to the ball forty five times
- 45:25Speaker 6: that that never happens with the gopherst.
- 45:26Speaker 3: Well, you know, Tanner Worgan's pretty good for his old day.
- 45:30Speaker 7: Ye aren't you? Aren't you guys? Glad that Mo evenhineing
- 45:32Speaker 7: me isn't back there.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Whoever, I'm glad that they're like four senior offensive linemen
- 45:38Speaker 3: graduated finally.
- 45:40Speaker 8: Yeah whatever that The last time we played them, it
- 45:43Speaker 8: felt like every every offensive linement was like a fourth
- 45:46Speaker 8: or fifth year senior who is six foot four and
- 45:48Speaker 8: three pounds.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Yeah. If flex Flex developed a culture there you mentioned Farence,
- 45:56Speaker 3: like the teams that probably don't have as much talent,
- 45:58Speaker 3: but they developed culture with them at the top of
- 46:00Speaker 3: this this second tier that we're talking about in the
- 46:04Speaker 3: Big ten top or towards the top, and that's the
- 46:07Speaker 3: one we've been talking about where where where Nebraska is
- 46:10Speaker 3: at And we've been at the bottom of that tier,
- 46:11Speaker 3: if not fell out of it in recent years and
- 46:15Speaker 3: we're back here and trying to climb towards the top
- 46:18Speaker 3: of it. And Minnesota is another one of those teams.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Maryland was, Michigan State was where if we want to
- 46:25Speaker 3: be at the top, we have to win a game
- 46:27Speaker 3: like this and where we think we've said that we
- 46:30Speaker 3: do have better talent but it's been the program, the culture,
- 46:33Speaker 3: the one score losses, the pressure that all this stuff
- 46:37Speaker 3: that's lost us these games where Minnesota handles that very
- 46:40Speaker 3: very well, Iowa handles that very very well. We look
- 46:44Speaker 3: like we are handling that very very well this year.
- 46:47Speaker 3: So let's see if we can continue to climb and
- 46:51Speaker 3: be the better football team, the better program that where
- 46:55Speaker 3: we're at this week amidst all the news, does the
- 46:58Speaker 3: fact that we're ranked give you pun another noise? It's
- 47:02Speaker 3: another noise thing. I think again, it can be handled,
- 47:07Speaker 3: but I am with you. It's another added element. It is.
- 47:09Speaker 3: It's another added element in a weird way. The rule
- 47:13Speaker 3: stuff maybe is overshadowing that a little bit, which is
- 47:16Speaker 3: a good thing. Maybe in a weird way. I don't
- 47:20Speaker 3: know exactly, but.
- 47:24Speaker 6: It gives it gives the other team more fire too,
- 47:26Speaker 6: Like you're you're playing a ranked opponent here.
- 47:29Speaker 3: And the fans.
- 47:31Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, there's there's one player from Minnesota. It's a
- 47:38Speaker 6: keyon and it's their safety. I have his name here.
- 47:42Speaker 3: Hi.
- 47:47Speaker 6: He is so freaking good at safety. He's he's a
- 47:52Speaker 6: guy I would not even throw the ball towards like that.
- 47:54Speaker 3: How do you know that?
- 47:57Speaker 6: Because I've watched the Gophers some this year in some
- 48:00Speaker 6: last year.
- 48:01Speaker 3: He's been there to pick six out of everybody. That's
- 48:07Speaker 3: the guy you pulled. I didn't. I didn't know nothing
- 48:09Speaker 3: about it.
- 48:09Speaker 7: Oh No, he's he's gonna be He's gonna be a bro.
- 48:12Speaker 3: I running back. Oh boy, fame Easia boy. Yeah. I mean, seriously,
- 48:24Speaker 3: isn't say that I would pronounce it, but it feels fake.
- 48:29Speaker 6: I have no Yeah, I think Ky plays a little
- 48:33Speaker 6: bit of offense too.
- 48:34Speaker 7: I might be wrong on that.
- 48:36Speaker 8: He has rushed the ball once for minus nine yards
- 48:40Speaker 8: and he has caught the ball three times for fifty
- 48:42Speaker 8: five yards.
- 48:43Speaker 3: He's so he's the next Travis Hunter.
- 48:45Speaker 7: Yeah, he's He's basically Travis h two point. Oh yeah,
- 48:48Speaker 7: I will say.
- 48:49Speaker 8: I mean they do have six interceptions on the season,
- 48:52Speaker 8: six passes deflected, so and like their turnovers are actually
- 48:58Speaker 8: pretty good for the year.
- 49:00Speaker 6: Yeah, they four against Purdue that that's what they want
- 49:02Speaker 6: to do is turn over the ball.
- 49:04Speaker 8: Which you know we always question on how good Purdue is.
- 49:09Speaker 8: But the fact, I mean we didn't do that against
- 49:11Speaker 8: Houston Christians, so.
- 49:14Speaker 3: They think is a little bit better than past.
- 49:17Speaker 8: Yes, their their defense, their secondary is good you're not wrong.
- 49:21Speaker 8: I think that that's part of the strength of their defense.
- 49:26Speaker 3: So here's let's key things here. While when we're on offense,
- 49:33Speaker 3: and you just mentioned it, here's what I think is
- 49:35Speaker 3: important that we established against Maryland. We got a run game.
- 49:42Speaker 3: Now against what we did against Maryland, we actually got
- 49:45Speaker 3: a run game going to where going into this week
- 49:48Speaker 3: we are now tougher to prepare for a little bit.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Like Emma Johnson was really good. So now as a defense,
- 49:53Speaker 3: you're going, okay, we got to make a decision on
- 49:56Speaker 3: what we're going to try to take away and and
- 49:59Speaker 3: that to really pop the thing for gain to holders
- 50:01Speaker 3: and in this offense. So yes, their passing defense is strong,
- 50:06Speaker 3: and we've said our our passing, our passing offense has
- 50:10Speaker 3: been our strength. But our run game kind of got going,
- 50:15Speaker 3: and that makes you feel a little bit better about
- 50:17Speaker 3: this game that we can run the ball a little bit.
- 50:20Speaker 3: And Emmett had a damn good game. And also mentioned
- 50:24Speaker 3: it's Emma's homecoming. We're actually practicing Friday or Thursday at
- 50:29Speaker 3: their high school, so having a walk through there so
- 50:33Speaker 3: that that's also neat it's a homecoming game for him. Yeah,
- 50:36Speaker 3: that's my big thing to call out here on that side.
- 50:39Speaker 8: Of the ball. Yeah, I I mean, I think you're right.
- 50:49Speaker 8: I think I'm just a little panicked because things are
- 50:52Speaker 8: going well and this is where it always falls apart.
- 50:56Speaker 3: Our tissue.
- 50:57Speaker 7: Yes, but because it's Minnesota, and to.
- 51:01Speaker 3: This Minnesota, we haven't beat them in five years, that's
- 51:03Speaker 3: a long time.
- 51:05Speaker 8: Also scar tissue, scar tissue. But yeah, we're I do
- 51:09Speaker 8: think we're the better team. I think we should win.
- 51:12Speaker 8: I never would have put money on us when we
- 51:14Speaker 8: were plus nine and a half. That's insane. I don't
- 51:16Speaker 8: know if I still put money use at seven and
- 51:18Speaker 8: a half because we've won every game by three to
- 51:22Speaker 8: five points.
- 51:23Speaker 3: So I think you're right.
- 51:28Speaker 8: The run game last week helps I if I had
- 51:31Speaker 8: to guess how the game's gonna start, Ema Johnson's gonna
- 51:33Speaker 8: start the game with three rushes for you know, eight
- 51:37Speaker 8: plus yards every time, because that's what we do every game.
- 51:41Speaker 8: And then we're not gonna do that for the two
- 51:43Speaker 8: quarters in the middle, and then we'll finish the game
- 51:45Speaker 8: in the fourth and Dylan will look Dylan will look
- 51:49Speaker 8: a lot better this week. I don't think he's gonna
- 51:50Speaker 8: have three interceptions.
- 51:53Speaker 3: The turnovers are gonna be a big thing, I think
- 51:54Speaker 3: on the road again. I don't think we're gonna get
- 51:58Speaker 3: away with what happened last week. Correct of the year.
- 52:01Speaker 3: It's not gonna happen. That was. I'm gonna call it luck,
- 52:03Speaker 3: but it just doesn't happen. Losing the turnover battle by
- 52:06Speaker 3: three and winning a game like that.
- 52:07Speaker 6: I I already have a Sember Saint chance of winning
- 52:09Speaker 6: if you lose a turnover battle by three.
- 52:13Speaker 3: Ten percent chance of losing.
- 52:14Speaker 7: Or winningember st chance of winning.
- 52:17Speaker 3: Seven percent chance of winning. Okay, it's less than that,
- 52:20Speaker 3: I think.
- 52:21Speaker 6: But yeah, so that's not gonna that's not gonna happen again.
- 52:25Speaker 7: And yeah it's I have a bad feeling about this game.
- 52:31Speaker 3: But back any offensive notes comments for US.
- 52:39Speaker 6: I would think you'll be able to throw Lebrass should
- 52:43Speaker 6: be able to throw the ball a good amount on
- 52:47Speaker 6: Minnesota as long as they stay away from Kai. Trust me,
- 52:51Speaker 6: his name's can.
- 52:51Speaker 7: Be brought up a lot.
- 52:53Speaker 3: He's gonna have him pick tomorrow.
- 52:55Speaker 6: Yeah no, no, trust me, this guy's good and he's
- 52:58Speaker 6: he's gonna do something in this game. They just be like, wow,
- 53:01Speaker 6: this back was right. But I think I'm still in
- 53:07Speaker 6: Minnesotas defense is that strong. What they the thing they
- 53:10Speaker 6: like to do is turn over the ball. That's where
- 53:11Speaker 6: you got to stay away from. That's the main point.
- 53:14Speaker 8: I mean, I'm going to have a battle of the best,
- 53:16Speaker 8: like their best, their their pass defenses against our pass offense,
- 53:21Speaker 8: which is what we're better at. And there our run
- 53:25Speaker 8: offense isn't as good as that, and our run offenses
- 53:29Speaker 8: as good and their run defenses as good. So it's
- 53:31Speaker 8: just kind of which ones a little bit better than
- 53:32Speaker 8: the other.
- 53:33Speaker 3: What they do best. Yep. And and then flipping over
- 53:36Speaker 3: to that side of the ball. I mean it feels
- 53:39Speaker 3: like Maryland a little bit.
- 53:42Speaker 9: I I think Minnesota and b J Fleck in the
- 53:49Speaker 9: program in general, it's going to look like old Minnesota.
- 53:53Speaker 3: I don't I know. They're playing a little bit differently
- 53:56Speaker 3: this year. They're going to try to play old Minnesota
- 53:58Speaker 3: against the Braska because it's worked. J Flex beat us
- 54:01Speaker 3: consistently doing it the way that they've done it, and
- 54:05Speaker 3: he knows that as a program, and what's that way been.
- 54:08Speaker 3: It's been let Nebraska beat themselves. Now we haven't beat
- 54:13Speaker 3: ourselves a lot this year, so you might put a
- 54:16Speaker 3: little hesitation on that. But Fleck is going to run
- 54:20Speaker 3: the ball and not be auldra aggressive. He does have
- 54:25Speaker 3: a freshman quarterback who's been pretty solid. They're not gonna
- 54:29Speaker 3: make mistakes. They're going to try to minimize their penalties
- 54:32Speaker 3: and say, all right, Nebraska go out and win this
- 54:35Speaker 3: game amidst all the distractions. So yes, well, I think
- 54:39Speaker 3: they are going to try to pass it a little bit.
- 54:42Speaker 3: I think they're still going to go back to how
- 54:44Speaker 3: they know how to beat Nebraska specifically and run the
- 54:48Speaker 3: ball and do all that. I gives still probably our
- 54:51Speaker 3: weakness of our defense, and it our weakness is a
- 54:54Speaker 3: rush defense.
- 54:56Speaker 8: Yep.
- 54:57Speaker 3: I agree.
- 54:58Speaker 6: Well, at least you ain't worried about the quarterback taking
- 54:59Speaker 6: out for running. Now he probably will turn into Michael Vick.
- 55:02Speaker 3: Yeah, that's how it goes, is when you're worried about
- 55:04Speaker 3: it that the Greek rifle ethan callag Man has looked
- 55:07Speaker 3: like that.
- 55:08Speaker 7: Yeah he did. He did take off and runs.
- 55:12Speaker 6: So yeah, don't don't come back at us when he's
- 55:14Speaker 6: when he has eighty five rushing yards against Nebraska. But
- 55:18Speaker 6: he shouldn't take off and run, all right?
