Transcript
- 0:03SPEAKER_03: Welcome to this second recording of episode six of the Opinionated Ogre podcast,
- 0:09SPEAKER_03: because I screwed it up the first time,
- 0:11SPEAKER_03: all 45 minutes of it.
- 0:14SPEAKER_03: Let's start again.
- 0:15SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 0:17SPEAKER_03: So...
- 0:20SPEAKER_03: Welcome to Episode 6 of the Opinionator Ogre Podcast,
- 0:22SPEAKER_03: where I did not think it was possible for me to have any less respect for Clarence
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: Thomas or Samuel Alito,
- 0:28SPEAKER_03: and yet,
- 0:29SPEAKER_03: they keep finding new ways to noisy-ate me.
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: I've got an unusually big show for you this week,
- 0:35SPEAKER_03: now that I'm recording it a second time,
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: since I could not contain my aggravation while working on the script.
- 0:40SPEAKER_03: Bear with me as I rant about the undercover recording of Alito and his nutty wife
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: being absolute assholes.
- 0:47SPEAKER_03: Clarence Thomas being the most corrupt justice in American history.
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: Trump's dangerous turn to full-fledged anti-vaxxerism.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: Republicans trying to rewrite history itself right in front of us.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: And oh my God,
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: the sheer stupidity and desperation of the right trying to declare a mistrial in
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: New York is really something else to see.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: After all of that,
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: we'll get to the main part of the show,
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: the Ogre Opinion,
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: in which we answer a question not enough people are asking.
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: What if we win?
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: So, let's get to it.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: It's time for the Ogre Nation News Update.
- 1:27SPEAKER_03: We're starting with this week's biggest story.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: No, not Hunter Biden's guilty verdict for crimes almost no one is actually ever charged for.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: He's not running for office, so I don't really give a shit.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: I am,
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: however,
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: looking forward to Republicans trying to make that a campaign issue while ignoring
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: Donald Trump's 34 felony convictions.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: Now,
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: what we're actually starting with is Samuel Alito and his wife,
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: both of them far-right,
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: theocratic assholes.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: This is from CNN.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: A left-wing activist on Monday released secret recordings of Supreme Court Justice
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: Samuel Alito and his wife,
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: as well as Chief Justice John Roberts,
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: discussing a range of politically sensitive topics.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: The left-wing activist, by the way, is reporter Lauren Windsor.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: In a conversation with the activist,
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: who represented herself as a religious conservative and did not disclose in the
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: recordings she released that she was producing them and would make them public...
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: I just got to take a quick moment here to point out the framing here.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: CNN is framing this as the most, they're framing this to be, to sound dishonest.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: And undercover reporting is a long tradition in journalism.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: They don't always show up with a badge saying, I'm from CNN.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: I'm from MSNBC.
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: I'm from New York Times.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: A lot of journalists go undercover to get a story.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: This is a normal thing because sometimes you can't get people to talk to you if
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: they know you're a reporter.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: They're certainly not going to be honest if they're scumbagging nefarious people like the Alitos.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: And yet CNN is just portraying this.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: They're framing this as something dishonest, just the way they're putting it in there.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: When they would report on Project Veritas,
- 3:33SPEAKER_03: which this is very much like Project Veritas,
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: except,
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: of course,
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: she's not lying about it.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: But when CNN would report on Project Veritas stuff, this is not how they framed it.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: They wouldn't do that.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: They would neglect to mention that Project Veritas was editing all of their stuff
- 3:51SPEAKER_03: to fill a particular narrative,
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: and then they would just get around to mentioning that later.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: But,
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: of course,
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: since this made a Republican look bad,
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: CNN is going out of its way to frame this as something dishonest and underhanded,
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: which it's not.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: Anyway, back to CNN.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: Justice Alito endorses her suggestion that,
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: quote,
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: people in this country who believe in God have got to keep fighting for that to
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: return our country to a place of godliness.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: Well, I agree with you.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: I agree with you, Alito says.
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: I'm going to play a bit of this clip here.
- 4:31SPEAKER_03: It's like six minutes long.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: I'm not going to play the entire thing because, well, you know, that would be boring as hell.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: So you have to listen a little carefully.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: It's not as loud as I would like it, but here.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: But,
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: and I'm sure you don't remember this at all,
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: but what I had asked you about was about the polarization in this country.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: About, like, how do we repair that risk?
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: And considering everything that's been going on in the past year,
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: as a Catholic and as someone who,
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: like,
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: really cherishes my faith,
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: I just don't know that we can negotiate for the left in the way that needs to
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: happen for the polarization to end.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: I think that it's a matter of winning.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: I think you're probably right.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: One side or the other is going to win.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: I mean, there can be...
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: a way of working a way of living together peacefully but it's difficult you know
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: because there are differences on fundamental things that really can't be
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: compromised I wrote about this yesterday he's just flat out saying he's incapable
- 5:58SPEAKER_03: of compromising
- 6:00SPEAKER_03: Which is, you know, that alone is ridiculous.
- 6:04SPEAKER_03: And not what a Supreme Court justice is supposed to be doing on the bench.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: And godliness, there's no fucking godliness in the Constitution.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: That's not the rule of law speaking.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: That's Alito's far-right religious bullshit speaking.
- 6:20SPEAKER_03: He just admitted that he's not guided by the law or the Constitution or anything
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: this country was founded on,
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: but rather by his own personal devotion to religion.
- 6:32SPEAKER_03: That's the most un-American thing imaginable, and that alone should see him removed from the bench.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: If Elena Kagan said she put God before the Constitution in ruling on the death
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: penalty or anything,
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: Republicans would set the country on fire.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: Now, here's a clip of Alito's white trash wife, Martha Ann.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: You know what I want?
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: I want a Sacred Heart of Jesus flag because I have to look across the lagoon at the
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Pride flag for the next month.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: And he's like, oh, please don't put up a flag.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: I said, I won't do it because I'm deferring to you.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: But when you are free of this nonsense, I'm putting it up and I'm going to send them a message every day.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Maybe every week I'll be changing the flags.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: There'll be all kinds.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: I made a flag in my head.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: This is how I satisfy myself.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: I made a flag.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: It's white.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: It has yellow and orange flames around it.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: And in the middle is the word vergogna.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Vergogna in Italian means shame.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Vergogna.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: V-E-R-G-O-G-N-A.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Vergogna.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Shame, shame, shame on you.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: You know.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: So she sounds stable.
- 7:45SPEAKER_03: Actually, she sounds like a raving piece of shit who's just mean and nasty and vicious.
- 7:53SPEAKER_03: So remember,
- 7:55SPEAKER_03: the whole thing was supposed to be between her and her neighbors was like,
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: the neighbor started fighting.
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: It's like, you know what?
- 8:01SPEAKER_03: I'm pretty sure the neighbor didn't start the fight.
- 8:03SPEAKER_03: She sounds like exactly that.
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: She sounds like a Karen.
- 8:07SPEAKER_03: who would just see something she doesn't like and just felt entitled to start
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: yelling at you,
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: like,
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: how dare you?
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: I am the great and mighty wife of Samuel Alito.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: How dare you do something in my presence?
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: She sounds like that type of person.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: Now,
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: hilariously,
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: at one point in her in this video,
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: she complains that feminazis wanted her husband to control her,
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: which is actually the opposite of what feminists say.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: It is, however, quite literally what the patriarchal right says out loud all the time.
- 8:42SPEAKER_03: Martha Ann is all about being her own woman,
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: even as her theocratic husband rules that women have no rights.
- 8:49SPEAKER_03: The hypocrisy is jaw-dropping, but that's who these people are.
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: This is what fascism is.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: Rules for thee, not for me.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: She's literally bragging about how free she is while she is desperately longing for
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: a world where women are subjugated to the will of men in the name of Jesus.
- 9:09SPEAKER_03: I hope they both burn in hell.
- 9:12SPEAKER_03: Now, we're not done with the high court and the corrupt Republican assholes infesting it.
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: It's bad enough that these people are fascist theocrats, but the naked greed is off the charts.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: The watchdog group Fix the Court was kind enough to add up all of the gifts the
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: justices received in the last 20 years and oh my fucking God.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: This is from the UPI.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: Data released Thursday by judiciary watchdog Fix the Court found the high court's
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: nine justices have accepted 344 gifts valued at almost $3 million since 2004.
- 9:47SPEAKER_03: Adding 202 gifts for eight justices who have stepped down since then,
- 9:51SPEAKER_03: that number grows to over $4.7 million.
- 9:54SPEAKER_03: Thomas alone has accepted 193 gifts valued at over $4 million.
- 10:01SPEAKER_03: The report also noted the George H.W.
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: Bush appointee received an additional 126, quote, likely but not confirmed gifts.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: Now, it's been estimated that Thomas has another 2 million in unreported bribes.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: I mean, I mean, gifts.
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: So just to be clear,
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: in the last 20 years,
- 10:24SPEAKER_03: 17 Supreme Court justices have received around $5 million in gifts.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: More than $4 million of that went to Clarence Thomas alone.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: And that's not including another $1 to $2 million he still hasn't reported,
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: presumably because he forgot to list them on his financial disclosure forms.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: This is where I remind you that Thomas started to complain all the way back in 2000.
- 10:53SPEAKER_03: Now, he wasn't making enough money as a Supreme Court justice.
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: He and his treasonous wife wanted to live large,
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: and he was thinking about residing so he could make more money.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: Suddenly,
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: like magic,
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: after a decade of being on the court,
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: billionaire friends showed up and started lavishing money.
- 11:15SPEAKER_03: gifts on thomas and his family free vacations a free rv worth a quarter of a
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: million dollars his mother's house paid for it and she got to live there for free
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: his adopted son's schooling fully paid for so generous so wonderful all because
- 11:34SPEAKER_03: they just like clarence thomas so very much no other reason
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: Of course,
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: after a few years of living la vida loca,
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: Thomas would do anything to keep that money spigot open.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: It doesn't matter if he's broadly ideologically aligned with these billionaire scumbags.
- 11:54SPEAKER_03: Now he has to rule the way they want, or they'll stop paying for his free trips to private islands.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: That's how bribery works.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: That's the corrosive effect of corruption.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: Alito and Scalia got a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of stuff,
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: but I haven't looked at the breakdown,
- 12:11SPEAKER_03: so I don't know if it was in like big chunks or stretched out over 10 or 20 years.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: That's still not great.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: Fox News,
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: however,
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: threw a huge temper tantrum over Kentucky Brown Jackson getting four tickets from
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: Beyonce for one of her shows valued at a little over $3,000.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: The fucking scandal.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: Let's not talk about Clarence Thomas, though.
- 12:34SPEAKER_03: That's off limits.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: You want to do something about that?
- 12:38SPEAKER_03: Give Biden and the Democrats full control of the government and take Thomas and take Thomas's power away.
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: Let them expand the court.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: Let them do term limits.
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: Bribes don't mean shit if you can't act on them.
- 12:51SPEAKER_03: Then he could resign in disgrace and be remembered as the worst justice in American history.
- 12:56SPEAKER_03: Republicans have been polluting judiciary with monsters because that's been their plan for decades.
- 13:03SPEAKER_03: They saw the writing on the wall.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: They would lose the ability to win elections,
- 13:08SPEAKER_03: so they spent decades and hundreds of millions of dollars to seize control of the
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: courts and lock in their power.
- 13:16SPEAKER_03: This was always plan A.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: They only turned to insurrection when they realized that fascism was really popular
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: at their base of domestic terrorists.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: But if that doesn't work out, they intend to rule America through the courts for the next 50 years.
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: That only works if we allow them to keep stacking the courts and if we throw away
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: elections like we did in 2016.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: We could be eight years into the end of gerrymandering and no more Citizens United.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: But the far left hated Hillary more than they loved progress after swallowing a ton
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: of Russian propaganda.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: And they're trying to do it again.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: I don't know about you, but I am not up for being rat fucked a second time.
- 14:03SPEAKER_03: Okay, it is time to move on to even more good news.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: And by good news, I mean something I've absolutely been dreading for the better part of a decade now.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: No!
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: This segment turned out to be a bit of a mini ogre opinion.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: It actually was a topic that was up for voting.
- 14:31SPEAKER_03: It didn't get voted in, but I'm still doing it because, well, something happened and it's important.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: It's extremely dangerous and it's got me all bent out of shape.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: Several years ago,
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: I wrote an article begging people not to press then President Trump about his son,
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: Barron,
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: and his autism.
- 14:51SPEAKER_03: I didn't do this out of decompassion for Barron, who was at the time like 11 or 12 years old.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: Not for nothing.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: The kid is obviously on the spectrum.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: The hand flapping, the lack of eye contact, and the fact that his father rarely has him in public.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: There might as well be giant neon signs over his head.
- 15:11SPEAKER_03: My issue was that if we somehow made this information public, Trump would lose his shit.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: Remember, Trump is a malignant narcissist.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: Everything is about him.
- 15:22SPEAKER_03: Literally everything.
- 15:25SPEAKER_03: If the world found out that Barron Trump was autistic,
- 15:29SPEAKER_03: Donald Trump would not stand up and say,
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: yes,
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: he is,
- 15:32SPEAKER_03: and I love him.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: I dare you to say one fucking word about it.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: He's incapable of that.
- 15:39SPEAKER_03: Instead, Trump would make it about him.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: Barron's autism would be embarrassing because somehow it would reflect poorly on Trump.
- 15:47SPEAKER_03: Therefore, Trump would need to blame someone or something.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: He'd already flirted with blaming autism on vaccines,
- 15:55SPEAKER_03: and there is zero chance he would not have gone all the way and blamed Barron's
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: autism on his childhood vaccines.
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: That was in 2017 or 2018, years before COVID.
- 16:08SPEAKER_03: Anti-vaxxerism was still a fringe thing for bored,
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: rich white people who needed something to be scared of and far,
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: far right conspiracy nuts.
- 16:17SPEAKER_03: I hated these people with a passion because part of their worldview is that they
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: would rather have their child die from a preventable disease than be autistic.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: As the father of an autistic son, my response to this is a thoughtful and polite, fuck you.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: My kid horrifies you so much that you'd rather have your precious little snowflake in a coffin instead?
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: You can eat shit and die, you motherfuckers.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: Anyway,
- 16:45SPEAKER_03: part of my job is to look at things as they are and fast forward a few years to see
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: where they might end up.
- 16:54SPEAKER_03: And this was an easy one.
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: I saw as clear as day that if Republicans ever realized how potent a weapon
- 17:04SPEAKER_03: anti-vaxxerism could be,
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: it would be a fucking disaster.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: It has all the elements of the perfect culture war issue for them.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: Anti-government, anti-shadowy big business, in this case, big pharma.
- 17:19SPEAKER_03: It's something kids have to do a lot, but adults do much less frequently.
- 17:24SPEAKER_03: You only get one, maybe two vaccines a year at most.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: Protect the children wasn't a thing yet, but that instinct...
- 17:36SPEAKER_03: They would have used that even before Protect the Children became a thing for them.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: The damage this would have done wouldn't have been immediate.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: Republicans could whip their base into a frenzy of rage and fear,
- 17:51SPEAKER_03: and it would take years for the consequences to manifest,
- 17:55SPEAKER_03: at which point they would just blame Democrats because there wouldn't be a clear
- 17:59SPEAKER_03: connection between what Republicans had done and the harm it was causing.
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: That's one of their favorite games.
- 18:08SPEAKER_03: I lived in fear of this because I knew how bad it would get if millions of
- 18:11SPEAKER_03: Republican morons suddenly stopped vaccinating their kids.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: All those fun childhood diseases my parents and grandparents lived through would come roaring back.
- 18:20SPEAKER_03: By the time that happened, my kids would be adults and out of school, mostly.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: Kyle would be in high school at that point, so mostly safe.
- 18:29SPEAKER_03: But still, tens of millions of other kids would be at risk.
- 18:34SPEAKER_03: Tens of thousands would get sick and either be maimed or die,
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: all because Donald Trump had to blame something for Barron's autism.
- 18:45SPEAKER_03: And then his cult would follow him.
- 18:48SPEAKER_03: And then COVID came, and my worst fears came true.
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: Republicans discovered how useful anti-vaxxerism is.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: Now,
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: four years later,
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: they've moved well beyond just COVID vaccines,
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: and Donald Trump,
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: in a panicked attempt to outflank fucking RFK Jr.
- 19:08SPEAKER_03: on his right, is going full anti-vaxxer.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: This is from Politico.
- 19:14SPEAKER_03: Donald Trump,
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: former COVID-19 vaccine booster,
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: is now the nation's most high-profile critic of immunization mandates.
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: The former president has,
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: on the campaign trail,
- 19:24SPEAKER_03: promised to strip funding from schools with vaccine requirements and lambasted
- 19:29SPEAKER_03: independent candidate Robert F.
- 19:30SPEAKER_03: Kennedy Jr.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: as a quote-unquote fake anti-vaxxer,
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: while obscuring his role in speeding the development of the COVID shot when he was
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: president during the pandemic.
- 19:41SPEAKER_03: Trump's new anti-vaccine persona could have far-reaching consequences if he's
- 19:46SPEAKER_03: elected for a second stint as president with far-reaching administrative powers.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: Public health experts say a White House opposed to immunization mandates could
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: potentially cause upticks in cases of measles,
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: polio,
- 19:59SPEAKER_03: and other vaccine-preventable diseases or hamper efforts to fight a future pandemic.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: The CDC could pare back the number of vaccines it recommends children receive or
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: eliminate those recommendations entirely.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: The CDC could change the paperwork required to be shared with parents to make
- 20:15SPEAKER_03: vaccines sound less safe than they are.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: Or the FDA could increase the number of years of safety testing required for new
- 20:21SPEAKER_03: vaccines or impose other ownership requirements for vaccines to be approved in the USA.
- 20:27SPEAKER_03: So even if – when Trump loses,
- 20:32SPEAKER_03: Republicans are still going to pursue this because they never,
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: ever let go of a culture war issue.
- 20:39SPEAKER_03: They are literally going after contraception, and that's been – we've had that for decades.
- 20:45SPEAKER_03: It's been over 50 years, and they're still going after it.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: They will go after mixed race marriage, something they've wanted to get rid of for over 50 years.
- 20:54SPEAKER_03: They will go 100% to go after women's right to vote, which has been a century.
- 20:59SPEAKER_03: They will never stop, which means, and I promise you, this is going to happen.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: They will try to use the Supreme Court to end vaccine mandates and unleash a nightmare in this country.
- 21:13SPEAKER_03: You want to keep that from happening?
- 21:15SPEAKER_03: Vote blue and take back to court.
- 21:18SPEAKER_03: Or a decade and a half from now,
- 21:20SPEAKER_03: you're going to be reading about how polio is killing thousands of kids a year.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: Now, that's future history.
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: And future history is only going to matter if we remember actual history.
- 21:35SPEAKER_03: Which brings us to our next story.
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: Trump and the GOP are seriously trying to rewrite history right in front of us right now.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: And I'm going to give you two specific examples.
- 21:47SPEAKER_03: One you probably saw because it was hard to miss.
- 21:49SPEAKER_03: And the other one was a lot more subtle.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: The first one was Trump yapping on his stupid Twitter ripoff, Truth Social.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: Ahem.
- 21:59SPEAKER_03: Low insulin pricing was gotten for millions of Americans by me and the Trump administration,
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: not by crooked Joe Biden.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: He has nothing to do with it.
- 22:08SPEAKER_03: It was all done long before he so sadly entered office.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: All he does is try to take credit for things he's done by others, in this case me.
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: That's a terrible Trump invitation, but just roll with it.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: That, of course, is absolute bullshit.
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: Insulin was capped by the Inflation Reduction Act passed by Biden and the Democrats in 2022.
- 22:27SPEAKER_03: Every single Republican voted against it.
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: Trump stomped his feet and held his breath in a temper tantrum over it.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: Fuck them all.
- 22:35SPEAKER_03: The insulin cap alone has saved countless billions of dollars.
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: And more importantly, saved countless lives.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: Part of the GOP's Project 2025 is to repeal the IRA,
- 22:49SPEAKER_03: which would remove the cap and make insulin unaffordable again for millions of people.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: Trump is a murderous liar.
- 22:56SPEAKER_03: While that was happening,
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: Republicans in Congress were grilling Anthony Fauci,
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: trying to prove a single one of their stupid fucking COVID theories and failing
- 23:08SPEAKER_03: visually because they're morons and they have no evidence of anything,
- 23:12SPEAKER_03: just Fox News talking points.
- 23:14SPEAKER_03: But here's something to Professional Left Podcast, which you really should be listening to.
- 23:18SPEAKER_03: This is something the Professional Left Podcast caused that was really important.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: New York Representative Nicole Malliotakis asked Fauci the following question.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: How much have you earned in royalties from pharmaceutical companies since the pandemic began 2021?
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: Did you catch it?
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: She said the pandemic began in 2021, a full year later after it started and after Trump had left office.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: As the professional left noted, this was not a gaffe or a slip of the tongue.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: She was reading from notes.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: This was written down for her, and it was 100% intentional.
- 24:00SPEAKER_03: The GOP really, really wants to erase Trump's catastrophic COVID response.
- 24:06SPEAKER_03: Remember, they keep asking questions.
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: Are you better off now than you were four years ago?
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: Four years ago,
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: thousands of people were dying every week and the country was huddled in terror
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: because Trump deliberately let COVID spread.
- 24:23SPEAKER_03: It's really important that we not forget this because people keep erasing it from their minds.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: Trump and Jared Kushner had a nationwide COVID response ready to go.
- 24:35SPEAKER_03: Then they found out that COVID was killing Black people at a much higher rate and
- 24:40SPEAKER_03: that it was impacting cities in blue states the hardest.
- 24:44SPEAKER_03: They made the deliberate decision to do nothing because these fucking idiots
- 24:50SPEAKER_03: thought it would help Trump win the election.
- 24:53SPEAKER_03: Ha ha ha ha.
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: Look at all the people dying in blue states because Democrats suck.
- 24:57SPEAKER_03: They both really actually thought a fucking virus would stop at the border between
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: a blue state and a red state and leave Republicans alone.
- 25:07SPEAKER_03: I wrote about this, too.
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: Because I knew COVID would hit rural America like an asteroid.
- 25:14SPEAKER_03: And with their limited infrastructure and even more limited access to health care
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: and hospitals,
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: the death toll would be unbelievable.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: And that was before Trump told them to ignore every bit of medical advice.
- 25:28SPEAKER_03: And what happened?
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: Half a million people died because of the fact,
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: because that fat fuck and his creepy treasonous son-in-law just died.
- 25:38SPEAKER_03: Made it happen.
- 25:40SPEAKER_03: Now Republicans want to erase all that and blame COVID on Biden?
- 25:44SPEAKER_03: Fuck you.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: The Republican Party murdered half a million Americans,
- 25:48SPEAKER_03: and if we let them,
- 25:49SPEAKER_03: they'll kill hundreds of thousands of more by taking away their insulin.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: Fuck these people.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 25:57SPEAKER_03: Our final story of the Ogre News Nation update is kind of frivolous,
- 26:02SPEAKER_03: but at the same time,
- 26:03SPEAKER_03: it shows just how stupid and truly desperate the Republican Party is.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: Now, to be fair, this is not entirely the fault of Trumpland, at least not at first.
- 26:15SPEAKER_03: But after the truth quickly came out, they kept running with it because they're fucking morons.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: Enough of being cryptic.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: A few days ago, Judge Mershon, this is the judge that was overseeing the trial.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: the election interference hush money trial in New York,
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: contacted lawyers and all parties concerned about a Facebook post allegedly from
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: the cousin of one of the jurors.
- 26:39SPEAKER_03: The post claimed that one of the jurors had leaked the information that Trump was
- 26:44SPEAKER_03: going to get a guilty verdict two days before the verdict was handed down.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: That would be before the jury had even begun to deliberate.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: Accordingly, the right has flown into a total rage, demanding the whole thing be nullified.
- 26:58SPEAKER_03: And it's a mistrial and investigations.
- 27:00SPEAKER_03: We need vengeance and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 27:03SPEAKER_03: The problem is the guy who posted it,
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: Michael Anderson,
- 27:07SPEAKER_03: is a Facebook troll who posts stupid shit for fun.
- 27:11SPEAKER_03: We know this because he literally tells us that's what he's doing.
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: It's on his Facebook profile.
- 27:17SPEAKER_03: After the whole thing blew up, he went on Facebook to again tell people, chill out.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: He made it all up.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: But that hasn't stopped the right from continuing to fall with the mouth like
- 27:27SPEAKER_03: Donald Trump in one of his campaign ads.
- 27:29SPEAKER_03: Yes, that's a thing that actually happened.
- 27:31SPEAKER_03: It's super gross.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: You should read my article about it.
- 27:33SPEAKER_03: It's nasty.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: So now this will become a permanent part of their mythology.
- 27:39SPEAKER_03: They were already telling themselves it was rigged,
- 27:42SPEAKER_03: but this will be the quote-unquote evidence they need to prove it forever and ever.
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: Facts?
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: Who needs facts?
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: They have Fox News talking points.
- 27:52SPEAKER_03: It reeks of desperation, just like everything else the GOP does these days.
- 28:04SPEAKER_03: That's it for the Ogre Nation News Update.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: Now it's time to move into the Ogre Opinion.
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: That's the part of the show where I focus on a single topic for a deeper dive.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: This week, the topic is the runner-up from last week's Second Chance poll.
- 28:18SPEAKER_03: What happens if we win?
- 28:21SPEAKER_03: So let's get into it.
- 28:25SPEAKER_03: Okay, so I tend to be a rather cynical person.
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: I tend to think the worst,
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: especially when it comes to the horrible things the right does and plans to do.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: I have an exceedingly low opinion of people because,
- 28:37SPEAKER_03: not for nothing,
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: they keep letting Republicans take power,
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: destroy everything,
- 28:41SPEAKER_03: and then blame Democrats for not cleaning up the mess quickly enough.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: But while I'm extremely cynical,
- 28:46SPEAKER_03: I can also be very optimistic,
- 28:48SPEAKER_03: especially when there are plenty of signs things are not as terrible as the press
- 28:51SPEAKER_03: wants us to believe.
- 28:53SPEAKER_03: Right now, the race could go either way.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: But as Simon Rosenberg at Hopium Chronicles keeps saying, I'd rather be us than them.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: Now, that's just true in general.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: Republicans are a sad and miserable group of people, incapable of experiencing joy.
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: I wrote an article about that last week,
- 29:12SPEAKER_03: which apparently a whole crap load of people got a real kick out of.
- 29:16SPEAKER_03: I recommend you take a gander.
- 29:17SPEAKER_03: But aside from not wanting to be a Republican at any given moment of my life,
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: I definitely do not want to be one at this point in the election cycle.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: Oh,
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: they're all excited that Trump just got a huge surge in donations and the polls are
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: totally in Trump's favor.
- 29:33SPEAKER_03: Sort of, but not so much anymore.
- 29:36SPEAKER_03: They're kind of tied and they've been trending in the wrong direction for Trump for months now.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: But he's got big crowds,
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: except when they're not that big or when half the crowd leaves because Trump's
- 29:46SPEAKER_03: speeches are repetitive and boring as fuck.
- 29:50SPEAKER_03: Well, it's a witch hunt.
- 29:51SPEAKER_03: I'm a victim.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: It's unfair.
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: Give me your money.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: I don't care about you.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: I just want your vote.
- 29:57SPEAKER_03: Whatever.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: But Biden still has a massive war chest.
- 30:01SPEAKER_03: He isn't a convicted felon.
- 30:03SPEAKER_03: The economy just refuses to collapse no matter how much the press keeps saying it will.
- 30:08SPEAKER_03: A whole shitload of greedy corporations that have been price gouging have announced
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: that they're dropping prices on staples like,
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: I don't know,
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: fucking groceries.
- 30:17SPEAKER_03: So people will finally feel that strong economy.
- 30:20SPEAKER_03: And OPEC just announced they're throwing in the towel on trying to artificially
- 30:24SPEAKER_03: reach $100 per barrel of oil,
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: and they're increasing their oil production.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: That means the price of gas will not keep rising before the election and will probably drop.
- 30:35SPEAKER_03: On top of all of that, the Republicans on the Supreme Court are about to make a bunch of major decisions.
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: This week alone, they're making decisions on Thursday and Friday, so...
- 30:47SPEAKER_03: That's going to be God knows how awful.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: So I'm sure we'll discuss that on next week's show.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: And they're about to piss off pretty much every liberal voter in the country,
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: thus reminding us that they need to be reined in,
- 31:01SPEAKER_03: along with all the other crappy shit that they've been doing.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: Something this will only happen if Trump loses.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: As of right now, that looks more likely than not.
- 31:12SPEAKER_03: Trump's not doing well, and that's not even getting into his 34 felony convictions.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: That leads us to the point of this ogre opinion.
- 31:22SPEAKER_03: What happens if we win?
- 31:26SPEAKER_03: That's a big question, and it deserves a big answer.
- 31:29SPEAKER_03: Hence, this deep dive.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: For starters, Democrats will finally be able to get rid of the filibuster.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: But wait, really?
- 31:40SPEAKER_03: Actually, yes.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: If we win the White House, we have a really good chance of winning the Senate.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: Because even though Republicans only need to win a single seat to tip the balance,
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: they keep picking shitty candidates.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: and undermining their own chances of flipping a seat.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: Combined with Trump's drag on the party,
- 32:00SPEAKER_03: there's a very real chance Senate Republicans are going to blow it again.
- 32:06SPEAKER_03: Now, a continued Democratic Senate will have two key differences.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: One, no Joe fucking Manchin.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: And two, no Kirsten fucking Sinema.
- 32:20SPEAKER_03: These were the two assholes blocking Democrats from ending the filibuster.
- 32:25SPEAKER_03: Even Mark Kelly,
- 32:27SPEAKER_03: who is the most conservative member of the Democratic caucus,
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: is on board with taking away the GOP's ability to obstruct everything.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: After that, things get very interesting very quickly.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: Let's do the easy stuff first.
- 32:44SPEAKER_03: Biden gets to keep appointing judges for another two years.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: We should all be familiar by now how big a deal that is.
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: Trump poisoned the judiciary with hundreds of young and unqualified far-right
- 32:55SPEAKER_03: assholes from the Federalist Society.
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: That's a cult of white nationalist fascists whose only goal is to abuse the law to
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: cement the power of the right wing.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: Biden has appointed almost as many judges.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: Two more years and he'll easily surpass Trump.
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: Combined with Obama's appointments...
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: which was also a lot because he was there for full eight years,
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: Trump's poison pills will be vastly outnumbered,
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: at least two to one.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: They'll still be around to inflict damage, but not nearly as much as before.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: At the same time,
- 33:37SPEAKER_03: at the same time,
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: Biden's appointments have been the most diverse in history,
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: far more than even Obama's were.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: That kind of diversity of experience and perspective makes for a much more fair judiciary.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: He's appointed a ton of women,
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: a ton of women of color,
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: and he's appointed a lot of public defenders as opposed to prosecutors.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: It just changes how they approach the law.
- 34:09SPEAKER_03: And we need that in the face of the GOP's assault on the rule of law.
- 34:15SPEAKER_03: Next up,
- 34:17SPEAKER_03: There's going to be a federal law making Roe the law of the land that will protect abortion rights.
- 34:25SPEAKER_03: Just to be clear,
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: if we keep the White House and Senate,
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: House Republicans have zero chance of holding on to the majority.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: They'll be lucky if they lose less than 30 seats.
- 34:39SPEAKER_03: That's how badly they're doing in the House right now.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: Reproductive rights will be codified immediately.
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: So will the right to contraception,
- 34:51SPEAKER_03: something else Republicans are planning to use the Supreme Court to get rid of.
- 34:57SPEAKER_03: Remember, Republicans just voted against a law to protect contraception.
- 35:08SPEAKER_03: And their excuse was, well, it's not illegal anywhere.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: We don't need to do that.
- 35:12SPEAKER_03: It's a waste of a law.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: And that's how they do it.
- 35:16SPEAKER_03: They won't vote for a law.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: They won't try to pass a law outlawing contraception.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: They'll let the Supreme Court do it.
- 35:25SPEAKER_03: And that's the goal,
- 35:26SPEAKER_03: which is why they won't pass a law protecting it,
- 35:29SPEAKER_03: because they want the Supreme Court to do it for them,
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: just like they did with Roe v.
- 35:35SPEAKER_03: Wade.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: That's how they work.
- 35:38SPEAKER_03: That's the point of poisoning the judiciary.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: So the judiciary does the work for them.
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: All they have to do is block all legislation and then they can just let the courts run the country.
- 35:53SPEAKER_03: It's really quite disgusting.
- 35:58SPEAKER_03: Now,
- 35:59SPEAKER_03: the Republican extremists on the court could strike down these laws that the
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: Democrats will be passing on the grounds of,
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: we felt like it,
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: so what are you going to do?
- 36:07SPEAKER_03: We're the Supreme Court.
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: This is the legal theory that most of the decisions are based on now.
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: But with a majority and no filibuster to stop them, there's a few things the Democrats can actually do.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: Like, for instance, expand a court by four seats.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: Suddenly that precious 6-3 majority that Republicans are enjoying becomes a 7-6 minority.
- 36:32SPEAKER_03: And if Alito and Thomas drop dead or resign, 8-5 or 9-4.
- 36:38SPEAKER_03: But it's not just fun with the courts.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: With the filibuster out of the way, Washington, D.C.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: and Puerto Rico have a clear path to statehood.
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: Republicans have been standing in the way of that for years.
- 36:50SPEAKER_03: That would be several more House seats for Democrats and four new senators that
- 36:54SPEAKER_03: will never,
- 36:55SPEAKER_03: ever have a Republican elected to those seats.
- 36:59SPEAKER_03: That would go a long way to neutralizing the unfair advantage Republicans have in the Senate.
- 37:05SPEAKER_03: But wait, there's more.
- 37:07SPEAKER_03: Donald Trump's going to jail or he's going to flee the country.
- 37:11SPEAKER_03: With Biden in the White House for another four years,
- 37:14SPEAKER_03: Trump will not be able to pardon himself or have his corrupt attorney general kill
- 37:19SPEAKER_03: the two federal investigations into his many,
- 37:22SPEAKER_03: many crimes.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: Judge Eileen Cannon may yet permanently derail the stolen documents case in Florida,
- 37:29SPEAKER_03: but at the rate she's going,
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: she's just as likely to get herself removed before she can.
- 37:34SPEAKER_03: The Supreme Court might declare that Trump has presidential immunity,
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: but that seems unlikely because it sets a dangerous precedent with Democrats in office.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: And I don't see how they can give,
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: I don't see how they can rule that Trump has immunity,
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: but Biden doesn't.
- 37:53SPEAKER_03: And the Georgia case, they can only delay that one for so long before it starts moving forward again.
- 37:59SPEAKER_03: And that's a state case.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: So it's not a whole lot Republicans do about that anyway.
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: Any one of these cases will see Trump in prison because...
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: The New York case was allegedly the weakest of the four.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: The other three have 100 times more evidence, and they're much easier to understand.
- 38:23SPEAKER_03: Not that the New York case was complicated or lacking in evidence,
- 38:27SPEAKER_03: but the other cases are much more airtight.
- 38:31SPEAKER_03: And he still may yet face jail time for the 34 felonies he's guilty of in New York.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: Is Donald Trump willingly going to walk into a jail cell if the sentence is more than a few weeks?
- 38:44SPEAKER_03: Absolutely not.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: He will 100% flee the country if he's looking at six months or a year or more in prison.
- 38:53SPEAKER_03: Russia will welcome him with open arms where he can declare himself a president in exile.
- 38:59SPEAKER_03: That's a whole different kind of worms for another day.
- 39:01SPEAKER_03: But
- 39:03SPEAKER_03: Trump will not be the only Republican facing prison.
- 39:06SPEAKER_03: With an uncorrupted Department of Justice,
- 39:09SPEAKER_03: the investigations will continue and more and more Republicans will be swept up.
- 39:15SPEAKER_03: Not because of a deep state plot,
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: but because so many of them were involved in the attempt to overthrow the election.
- 39:22SPEAKER_03: Remember, there's at least eight of them asked for a pardon.
- 39:26SPEAKER_03: And that's just the ones we know about.
- 39:28SPEAKER_03: This is why they spent the last three years and change during everything they have
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: at stopping the investigations,
- 39:35SPEAKER_03: not just to protect Trump,
- 39:36SPEAKER_03: but also themselves.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: Remember, this is the first coup in modern American history.
- 39:44SPEAKER_03: It's certainly in my lifetime.
- 39:47SPEAKER_03: And I'm 50 years old, so it's been half a century.
- 39:49SPEAKER_03: This is the first time they've tried this.
- 39:52SPEAKER_03: And Republicans have not had to contend with legal consequences for their criminal activities in decades.
- 40:00SPEAKER_03: Certainly not in this century.
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: They did little or nothing to cover their tracks because they thought they would win,
- 40:07SPEAKER_03: so it wouldn't matter.
- 40:08SPEAKER_03: And even if they didn't, history told them it still wouldn't matter.
- 40:13SPEAKER_03: The fact that people are going to jail has them in a complete panic,
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: and they're ready to embrace violent terrorism to prevent the wheels of justice
- 40:22SPEAKER_03: from grinding them to paste.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: Fucking traitors.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: Other fun things that will happen if we win.
- 40:29SPEAKER_03: Again...
- 40:30SPEAKER_03: No filibuster means we can pass boring little laws like the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: The John Lewis Voting Rights Act has all sorts of goodies in it.
- 40:39SPEAKER_03: It will basically restore the Voting Rights Act that the Supreme Court has struck
- 40:46SPEAKER_03: down because,
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 40:49SPEAKER_03: they don't want people voting,
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: especially black people.
- 40:52SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 40:54SPEAKER_03: It will... Let's see.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: I believe it will also undo gerrymandering.
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: So, you know, wouldn't that be nice?
- 41:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, excuse me.
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: But...
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: It will absolutely advance voting rights in this country, which is the last thing Republicans want.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: It will keep them from suppressing the vote.
- 41:16SPEAKER_03: It will stop them from interfering with...
- 41:19SPEAKER_03: It will stop them from closing down voting precincts in Black communities.
- 41:24SPEAKER_03: And, oh boy, do they love doing that.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: And what they don't get to fix with that...
- 41:33SPEAKER_03: Democrats will be able to restore the original Voting Rights Act.
- 41:37SPEAKER_03: And again, no gerrymandering, no voter ID.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: All of that stuff can go bye-bye.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: And that will be a crippling blow to Republicans.
- 41:50SPEAKER_03: Breaks my heart.
- 41:52SPEAKER_03: Very sad.
- 41:53SPEAKER_03: Another fun thing that gets to happen.
- 41:55SPEAKER_03: The labor revolution continues.
- 41:59SPEAKER_03: The press does not talk about this enough because they don't like unions,
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: and they certainly don't like workers getting all up on themselves.
- 42:09SPEAKER_03: But the Biden administration has been the best thing to happen to American workers,
- 42:17SPEAKER_03: again,
- 42:18SPEAKER_03: in my lifetime.
- 42:20SPEAKER_03: I'm going to be 51 next month.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: It's been half a century, and this is the best thing that's ever happened for American workers.
- 42:29SPEAKER_03: There has been an explosion in labor activity in the last couple of years because
- 42:35SPEAKER_03: the Biden administration has smoothed the way for them to do it.
- 42:40SPEAKER_03: Trump went out of his way to make life difficult.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: Obama did not help.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: Bush absolutely did not help.
- 42:49SPEAKER_03: So...
- 42:52SPEAKER_03: this is a huge honking deal.
- 42:54SPEAKER_03: Now, technically, labor participation, union participation rate has gone down.
- 43:02SPEAKER_03: But that's only because the labor force has grown faster than unions have.
- 43:10SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, that's actually kind of a good thing that you have the labor force growing that rapidly.
- 43:18SPEAKER_03: Remember, we're in a really strong economy.
- 43:22SPEAKER_03: The labor force is growing.
- 43:24SPEAKER_03: Unions are not quite keeping up, but they're still growing.
- 43:27SPEAKER_03: And this is one of those things that snowball.
- 43:30SPEAKER_03: The more people see unions and their success,
- 43:34SPEAKER_03: the more people are going to want to unionize,
- 43:37SPEAKER_03: which is why Republicans have been fighting tooth and nail.
- 43:41SPEAKER_03: Not just Republicans, of course.
- 43:42SPEAKER_03: Big corporations have been fighting tooth and nail.
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: They've been doing all sorts of illegal shit to keep unions out of their shops.
- 43:48SPEAKER_03: But if a warehouse unionizes,
- 43:52SPEAKER_03: other warehouses are going to see and say,
- 43:54SPEAKER_03: hey,
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: why are they getting paid more?
- 43:57SPEAKER_03: Why are they getting more vacation time?
- 43:59SPEAKER_03: Why are they getting more sick time?
- 44:01SPEAKER_03: I want that.
- 44:02SPEAKER_03: We're doing the same job.
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: That's crazy.
- 44:05SPEAKER_03: And then they're going to unionize.
- 44:07SPEAKER_03: The same thing with factories and individual stores.
- 44:11SPEAKER_03: And it snowballs and it snowballs and it snowballs.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: And this is what Republicans have been afraid of because workers who understand
- 44:21SPEAKER_03: their power are workers who won't let themselves be abused.
- 44:26SPEAKER_03: And then what happens after that is those workers look around and be like, hey, wait a minute.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: We've stopped letting ourselves be abused.
- 44:35SPEAKER_03: Maybe we can help other people stop being abused.
- 44:38SPEAKER_03: And that is the entire core of the Republican Party is abusing people.
- 44:44SPEAKER_03: And there's a reason unions tend to vote Democrat,
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: because they know Republicans are the party of the billionaires and the oligarchs.
- 44:53SPEAKER_03: And unions are like the antidote for that.
- 44:57SPEAKER_03: So this is why they go out of their way.
- 44:59SPEAKER_03: They've been trying to make unions illegal for years.
- 45:01SPEAKER_03: The Supreme Court has been trying to make unions illegal and they can't quite reach that point yet.
- 45:08SPEAKER_03: But they're trying and Biden has been turbocharging this movement.
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: So another four years of that, please.
- 45:16SPEAKER_03: The last thing I'm going to get to.
- 45:22SPEAKER_03: It's not as splashy, but the electric vehicle revolution gets to continue as well.
- 45:28SPEAKER_03: It's a huge deal, even though you don't hear about it that much because it's cars.
- 45:36SPEAKER_03: Everyone drives cars.
- 45:38SPEAKER_03: Cars are everywhere.
- 45:39SPEAKER_03: It's not that big of a deal, but it is.
- 45:40SPEAKER_03: It's a huge, honking deal.
- 45:43SPEAKER_03: Cars produce a massive amount of pollution.
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: And going electric or even hybrid will cut billions of tons of CO2.
- 45:59SPEAKER_03: And it makes us that much less dependent on oil, which that in and of itself is a good thing.
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: And Biden has done a huge amount more than any other president before him to make
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: sure the EV revolution continues.
- 46:18SPEAKER_03: Now,
- 46:19SPEAKER_03: As much as I don't like Elon Musk,
- 46:22SPEAKER_03: and most of you,
- 46:23SPEAKER_03: I'm assuming,
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: also do not like him,
- 46:25SPEAKER_03: the one thing he did was,
- 46:28SPEAKER_03: by hook,
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: by crook,
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: through lying through his teeth,
- 46:31SPEAKER_03: he made electric cars cool.
- 46:35SPEAKER_03: And he really kicked that off.
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: And he was he was a lying shit to get it done, but he got it done.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: And now the other car companies are are fighting tooth and nail to catch up with
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: him to catch up with Tesla,
- 46:51SPEAKER_03: even though Musk is slowly or maybe not that slowly.
- 46:56SPEAKER_03: But he's killing Tesla because he's a really terrible businessman, apparently.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: But.
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: It needed to be done.
- 47:03SPEAKER_03: It just wasn't very nice about it.
- 47:05SPEAKER_03: But whatever.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: It is what it is.
- 47:10SPEAKER_03: We are very close to a tipping point.
- 47:13SPEAKER_03: And the car companies see there's a huge market.
- 47:17SPEAKER_03: There's money to be made.
- 47:19SPEAKER_03: And they are very, very close to the point where they are not going to go back.
- 47:25SPEAKER_03: Trump can force them to go back or at least slow it down by a decade or more.
- 47:31SPEAKER_03: And we can't afford that.
- 47:34SPEAKER_03: We need to electrify our cars.
- 47:38SPEAKER_03: We just, it has to happen.
- 47:40SPEAKER_03: You don't need, I mean, hybrid, I loved my Prius.
- 47:44SPEAKER_03: Loved it.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: Could have been a little bigger, but I loved my Prius.
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: It was great.
- 47:50SPEAKER_03: I had to fill up my tank once every other week, sometimes once every three weeks.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: It was heaven.
- 47:58SPEAKER_03: I miss having a hybrid.
- 48:00SPEAKER_03: I couldn't afford it.
- 48:02SPEAKER_03: When I had to trade in,
- 48:03SPEAKER_03: when my Prius finally gave up the Ghost because it was over 10 years old,
- 48:09SPEAKER_03: there are still cars,
- 48:10SPEAKER_03: EV or not,
- 48:12SPEAKER_03: or hybrid or not,
- 48:12SPEAKER_03: it's still a car.
- 48:14SPEAKER_03: They do die just like every other car does.
- 48:16SPEAKER_03: And I was very, very sad.
- 48:18SPEAKER_03: to lose it but and i couldn't afford and i couldn't afford another um because i
- 48:22SPEAKER_03: need to get a bigger car and i couldn't afford a hybrid uh suv and it killed me on
- 48:27SPEAKER_03: the inside my next car is going to be either fully electric or a hybrid guaranteed
- 48:33SPEAKER_03: i am absolutely never going to get another fully gas car because god damn it's
- 48:38SPEAKER_03: expensive so anyway aside from my personal rant
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: we're really close to the tipping point with the ev with ev revolution and trump
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: will get in the way of that but biden has poured hundreds and hundreds of millions
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: if not billions into making this a reality getting charging stations in places
- 49:02SPEAKER_03: where they need to be and making sure the manufacturers have the incentives to keep
- 49:07SPEAKER_03: going and once they get to that point
- 49:10SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 49:11SPEAKER_03: It's a done deal and nothing Republicans can do can stop it.
- 49:16SPEAKER_03: And can it happen in another four years?
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: Maybe.
- 49:21SPEAKER_03: Possibly.
- 49:21SPEAKER_03: We're super close to it.
- 49:23SPEAKER_03: And I want to find out because, God damn it, it needs to happen.
- 49:27SPEAKER_03: And we can't have these fucking guys get in the way of it.
- 49:30SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 49:31SPEAKER_03: There's a whole lot of other stuff.
- 49:34SPEAKER_03: That could happen if we win.
- 49:35SPEAKER_03: All sorts of other good things.
- 49:37SPEAKER_03: But I can't keep talking for another two hours.
- 49:40SPEAKER_03: We're already coming up on 50 minutes, which is long for this podcast.
- 49:45SPEAKER_03: There are 145 days left to the 2024 election.
- 49:52SPEAKER_03: Vote blue like your life depends on it.
- 49:55SPEAKER_03: And if you want all of this good stuff to happen...
- 49:59SPEAKER_03: vote for biden because trump will make sure none of it happens and make it worse all right bye
