- 0:00Speaker 1: I choose the topic, then it's ask me anything, one
- 0:03Speaker 1: more thing. I'm one more thing. I was trying to
- 0:11Speaker 1: decide how to present this information. I'm hesitant to do it.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I have a feeling I'm gonna wish I hadn't. Uh.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Oh boy.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I've always been quite willing to share lots about my
- 0:24Speaker 1: personal life on the air, for better or worse. I
- 0:29Speaker 1: have trouble not talking about things more than the other
- 0:32Speaker 1: way around. I get that, but I will. I will
- 0:37Speaker 1: share this all. Just I'm gonna lay out the topic
- 0:39Speaker 1: and then I think ask me anything would be the
- 0:41Speaker 1: best way to approach it. You guys can just interview
- 0:44Speaker 1: me on the.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Topic, Okay, right, which does not it's not called I
- 0:48Speaker 2: will answer anything.
- 0:49Speaker 1: No, that's plenty out. Yeah, yeah, fair enough. Two months
- 0:55Speaker 1: ago I entered the war. I'm embarrassed about this, by
- 0:58Speaker 1: the way. Oh boy, I'm embarrassed of this. I feel
- 1:03Speaker 1: bad about myself, but it's true. Anyway. Two months ago,
- 1:06Speaker 1: I entered the world of online dating.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Okay, okay, by that I embarrassed by that, Yes I am,
- 1:14Speaker 2: because I had been saying for many, many years, we're
- 1:17Speaker 2: older than you, Katie.
- 1:18Speaker 1: You have grown up in a world where this is common.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I used to we used to regularly say on the air,
- 1:24Speaker 1: it's r O D at reeks of desperation, people who
- 1:28Speaker 1: are online dating times of change, times of change. Then
- 1:31Speaker 1: the numbers become the numbers have become overwhelming, and it's
- 1:34Speaker 1: just practically what everybody does. And uh, and I had,
- 1:41Speaker 1: as a single guy, realized, at some point, I go
- 1:46Speaker 1: to work, and then I go straight home and take
- 1:48Speaker 1: care of kids, and then I get up and go
- 1:50Speaker 1: to work again. And unless I end up in a
- 1:53Speaker 1: car crash with somebody roughly my age, it's also single
- 1:58Speaker 1: and I didn't cause the car, so they're not angry
- 2:01Speaker 1: at me. It's hard to imagine how I'm going to
- 2:03Speaker 1: run into anybody. I got chocolate in my peanut butter. Yeah,
- 2:06Speaker 1: it almost has to be one of those.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Yeah, to do very slow fender benders, like five miles
- 2:11Speaker 3: an hour, just enough so none of the cars are damage.
- 2:13Speaker 4: To you just have to start seeing cute girls and
- 2:15Speaker 4: crashing into us.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Oh, we probably ought to see if there's a little damage.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I'm so sorry. I'm a man who's willing to say
- 2:22Speaker 2: he's sorry when he's wrong. Hi, my name's Jack.
- 2:24Speaker 1: That's not a bad idea, I buy like a two
- 2:27Speaker 1: thousand and eight Corolla. No, I don't care if it
- 2:29Speaker 1: gets a few dents later a minute major dents, yeah,
- 2:32Speaker 1: grocery store sort of. Just oh dang, I wasn't looking,
- 2:37Speaker 1: but you're driving.
- 2:38Speaker 2: A seventeen year old Corona.
- 2:40Speaker 1: That would make me less appealing, wouldn't it is. I'm
- 2:43Speaker 1: still surprised that so many young people are doing online dating,
- 2:47Speaker 1: because I would think you'd still have the social structure.
- 2:51Speaker 1: You're going out a lot, and you know, with lots
- 2:54Speaker 1: of other people who singing, so you can still run
- 2:55Speaker 1: into people the normal Wait, no, no, they.
- 2:58Speaker 5: Lack the social skills.
- 3:00Speaker 4: I know so many young twenty somethings that are on
- 3:03Speaker 4: like five different apps.
- 3:05Speaker 5: It's amazing to me.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Well, I haven't done whether just a hookup or they
- 3:09Speaker 2: just they don't have the social skills to try to
- 3:13Speaker 2: get acquainted with somebody they don't know.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm on one app. Bumble. I chose that after
- 3:19Speaker 1: a little bit of research. They're almost all all except
- 3:22Speaker 1: for two, are owned by the same company. Now match
- 3:25Speaker 1: dot Com went up out and bought all of the
- 3:28Speaker 1: names you've heard of of online dating, and they're all
- 3:31Speaker 1: owned by one company. Now, and there is a great
- 3:34Speaker 1: belief among people that have been doing it for years.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I've been doing it for eight weeks, but for people
- 3:38Speaker 1: who have been doing it for years that it's much
- 3:40Speaker 1: worse than it used to be. That the algorithms are
- 3:42Speaker 1: designed to keep you on there because you pay a
- 3:44Speaker 1: whatever it is, sixty dollars a month, and then you
- 3:46Speaker 1: pay per like liking somebody or whatever you buy likes. Anyway,
- 3:51Speaker 1: it's a great revenue stream, and there'd be great incentive
- 3:55Speaker 1: for the company to try to keep that going rather
- 3:57Speaker 1: than hey, we found it are we know who you
- 4:00Speaker 1: would like and they knew, we put you together, and
- 4:02Speaker 1: then you leave the app and we never make another
- 4:04Speaker 1: set from you, or we can dribble along people that
- 4:07Speaker 1: kind of might be interesting to you.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah. Please that the incentive structure.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Is pretty easy to rit. Yes it is, Yes, for
- 4:16Speaker 1: what it's worth.
- 4:17Speaker 2: On the recent season of Only Murders in the Building,
- 4:20Speaker 2: the Steve Martin character is on various dating apps for
- 4:24Speaker 2: older folks, and I can't remember all the names of them,
- 4:26Speaker 2: but one of them is last gasp dot com.
- 4:31Speaker 1: That's funny. So anybody get any questions about this, I
- 4:37Speaker 1: am you. How's it going, Okay, how's it going.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So, do you have a very broad a detailed profile
- 4:43Speaker 2: up there?
- 4:43Speaker 1: I do have a detailed profile. I am doing incognito mode.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I don't know if it's necessary or not. I remember
- 4:51Speaker 1: one of the things that sparked in my head, the
- 4:53Speaker 1: idea that maybe somebody I would be doing this when
- 4:55Speaker 1: I was single is I heard Chris Rock talking about it.
- 4:58Speaker 1: He said people were amazing to find me on I
- 5:02Speaker 1: forget what he was on, hinge ormatch dot com or
- 5:04Speaker 1: something like that, and he said with my name. He said,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I'm on there with my name because that's my name.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I'm single and I'm looking for someone to date and
- 5:11Speaker 1: that's my name. So that's kind of what I did.
- 5:13Speaker 1: But I have I do have a profile on there.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I'm doing incognito mode, which is you're not out in
- 5:19Speaker 1: the world for everybody to see you. I didn't want
- 5:22Speaker 1: to do that.
- 5:23Speaker 5: It's like only your matches can see you.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Only people I see and then like yeah, I think
- 5:28Speaker 1: I'm interested, and then they get back. It's been both
- 5:35Speaker 1: good and bad that so few people are aware of
- 5:38Speaker 1: the Armstrong and Getty Show in general. I mean, I've
- 5:41Speaker 1: had a handful of I know who you are and
- 5:45Speaker 1: are all excited about that, But an awful lot of
- 5:49Speaker 1: and mostly the reason that the majority of the reason
- 5:52Speaker 1: people don't know because at some point, very quickly, you
- 5:54Speaker 1: get into what do you do for a living? I
- 5:56Speaker 1: mean that's a very common early question, right.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Hum.
- 6:01Speaker 1: It's people who just don't follow the news at all,
- 6:04Speaker 1: that is most of it. They wouldn't. It's not that
- 6:06Speaker 1: they like a different radio show, they don't listen to
- 6:09Speaker 1: talk radio, they don't follow news, they don't fall politics.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I've chatted with so many people that are completely checked
- 6:18Speaker 1: out of that world, and I think, wow, that's interesting
- 6:21Speaker 1: and refreshing in many ways.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Yeah. I listened to Q one O three soft hits
- 6:24Speaker 2: of today and yesterday, Right, that sort of person.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yeah, And there are a ton of people, as we've
- 6:33Speaker 1: talked about on the air, who have absolutely no MAGA
- 6:35Speaker 1: or if you voted for Trump, swipe which is it
- 6:38Speaker 1: right or left? I should figure that out.
- 6:40Speaker 2: This is you can keep ending up with truck drivers.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Does your profile have anything about your political leaning on it?
- 6:46Speaker 1: I have myself as a moderate, which is true and
- 6:50Speaker 1: certainly in terms of my ability to be in a
- 6:52Speaker 1: relationship with somebody I am unless you're unless you're like
- 6:59Speaker 1: adamant about certain things and won't even and have to
- 7:03Speaker 1: talk about it all the time. I don't really care
- 7:06Speaker 1: that much about your politics.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Well, right, it's funny because I would be a a
- 7:13Speaker 2: what do you call it to if we don't go
- 7:14Speaker 2: to war like Muhammad Ali, a conscientious objector to the
- 7:18Speaker 2: very question. I am a moderate in terms of getting
- 7:21Speaker 2: together with a woman I hit it off with, and
- 7:23Speaker 2: we care about each other. I couldn't give a crap.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Let's run our lives and if we differ on this
- 7:28Speaker 2: other stuff, let's just not talk about it. And most
- 7:31Speaker 2: well I should in real life. Of course, I'm a
- 7:33Speaker 2: proud fascist, but.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Around I know a lot of people that seem to
- 7:37Speaker 1: have that attitude. Although there was one woman like the
- 7:40Speaker 1: best connection in terms of chatting that I had early on.
- 7:43Speaker 1: We're going back and forth and like the same books
- 7:46Speaker 1: and have been to the same museums and all this
- 7:47Speaker 1: different starts stopping all that, and we even got far
- 7:50Speaker 1: as far as to like facetiming each other and having
- 7:53Speaker 1: real conversations in real life and everything like that. Wow,
- 7:55Speaker 1: this is over a couple of weeks. And then I
- 7:58Speaker 1: was going to drive to Meeter, we're gonna eat for coffee.
- 8:01Speaker 1: So this had had made it pretty far by these standards,
- 8:04Speaker 1: and she said, you know, I can't believe I haven't
- 8:06Speaker 1: even asked this yet. I should ask what your political
- 8:08Speaker 1: leanings are. And I thought, okay, oh boy, and I
- 8:10Speaker 1: said I'm a moderate lean right, And her response is, oh,
- 8:15Speaker 1: that's way too far from where I am. This is
- 8:17Speaker 1: never gonna work. Well. I enjoyed talking to you, too bad.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I mean it was that quickly over after weeks of discussing,
- 8:24Speaker 1: face timing, talking about our kids, I mean, just like
- 8:28Speaker 1: really got to know each other a lot. She finds
- 8:31Speaker 1: out I'm moderate leaning right, that's way too far from
- 8:34Speaker 1: where I am. Now you Matrix dodged that bullet, yeah,
- 8:36Speaker 1: which which makes her a nut job. But how how
- 8:38Speaker 1: nuts is that?
- 8:40Speaker 2: She will never hear this? But you have maneuvered yourself
- 8:44Speaker 2: and your own mind into a terribly sad position.
- 8:47Speaker 1: My dear, no feeling for you.
- 8:49Speaker 2: I pity you, no kidding. Yeah, a lot of people have.
- 8:55Speaker 1: And and how would you not get past the fact
- 8:57Speaker 1: that we've been talking for weeks about raising kids and
- 9:03Speaker 1: jobs and things we like to do, things that really matter,
- 9:06Speaker 1: things that really matter. In your life, and they all
- 9:08Speaker 1: clicked really really well. But on voting day once a year,
- 9:12Speaker 1: the fact that we disagree, we couldn't possibly even sit
- 9:16Speaker 1: down for cast. She wasn't even willing to have coffee
- 9:18Speaker 1: with me once she found out. I leaned right.
- 9:21Speaker 2: And to put a finer point on it, you've gone
- 9:24Speaker 2: through all of the steps you go through to make
- 9:27Speaker 2: sure somebody's not abhorrent. Right, You've decided this person is
- 9:31Speaker 2: not abhorrent. Then it turns out they disagree with you
- 9:34Speaker 2: somewhat on politics, and you decide, yes, they're abhorrent. You
- 9:38Speaker 2: have put politics far too high in your list of
- 9:42Speaker 2: you know, how you define people.
- 9:43Speaker 1: That one blew my mind.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think about politics in the greater sense
- 9:49Speaker 2: principle and ideas and that sort of thing more than
- 9:53Speaker 2: is healthy. And I think that's insane, where I am
- 9:58Speaker 2: just the opposite. If she had said she's a progressive,
- 10:01Speaker 2: which is, you know, an indication of pretty far left.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Having had the conversations we had, I would have thought, well,
- 10:07Speaker 2: that's fine. I mean, given everything we've just talked about
- 10:10Speaker 2: with raising kids and how we feel about marriage and
- 10:12Speaker 2: life and jobs and blah blah blah, that's because you're saying, yeah,
- 10:16Speaker 2: I thought that was damned interesting. All right, So I
- 10:18Speaker 2: ask you anything you have perhaps in the past run
- 10:22Speaker 2: into similar dynamics politically speak like a left lefty.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I did have a girlfriend who was a left
- 10:32Speaker 1: lefty for a while.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Can you get past that these days? Even with your ID?
- 10:36Speaker 1: Actually, this person was this particular person who was very
- 10:39Speaker 1: very nice, but also very adamant about the positions and
- 10:41Speaker 1: talked about it all the time. It was a person
- 10:43Speaker 1: who lived their politics. I mean just it was. It
- 10:46Speaker 1: was all day, every day, and that that was never
- 10:48Speaker 1: gonna work.
- 10:48Speaker 5: I don't this woman, the cop didn't wouldn't go to
- 10:51Speaker 5: coffee with you?
- 10:52Speaker 1: Women are no a girlfriend? Oh okay, okay, very good
- 10:55Speaker 1: relationship other than other than that.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Jack, what kind of photos are you putting up? If
- 11:00Speaker 3: you don't mind me asking.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I'm glad this came up. I was gonna get to
- 11:02Speaker 1: this at some point. Yeah, I cause I got friends
- 11:06Speaker 1: I've talked to about this. Well, I've already had three
- 11:11Speaker 1: experiences where I met somebody at coffee shop. So we've
- 11:15Speaker 1: gotten through the chatting and stuff. You chat on the thing,
- 11:18Speaker 1: and then the next move usually is do you want
- 11:20Speaker 1: to take this to our phones to text because it's easier,
- 11:23Speaker 1: and if you're comfortable enough, you do that. And then
- 11:25Speaker 1: and then sometimes FaceTime or not, or some people like
- 11:28Speaker 1: want to meet for coffee right away, blah blah blah.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I have met three people, so we've gone through the
- 11:34Speaker 1: preliminaries enough that I'm interested enough. They're interested enough three
- 11:37Speaker 1: people that if they hadn't told me who they were,
- 11:40Speaker 1: I wouldn't have known it was them based on the
- 11:43Speaker 1: pictures they submitted that far off of their photos. Damn,
- 11:49Speaker 1: what filters? The fuck is that?
- 11:51Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 11:52Speaker 2: That's bad.
- 11:53Speaker 1: What the hell is that?
- 11:55Speaker 2: You gotta get them in the showroom to make this sale.
- 11:58Speaker 2: So if it takes a little trigger get you into
- 12:00Speaker 2: the showroom.
- 12:01Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 12:03Speaker 5: Did you FaceTime with any of them before you.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Met up one of them? I had, And I thought,
- 12:07Speaker 1: what kind of weird video filter did you have? That
- 12:11Speaker 1: slimmed you by sixty five pounds?
- 12:15Speaker 5: The filters are getting so good.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's the thing. It's not just it's not
- 12:21Speaker 1: just like the free filter you use on your phone
- 12:23Speaker 1: or to do whatever. No, these things are fairly sophisticated,
- 12:26Speaker 1: I guess, And.
- 12:27Speaker 4: They're being advertised on all social media platforms too, Like
- 12:30Speaker 4: if you go on Instagram and you're scrolling, there will
- 12:32Speaker 4: be an ad that'll say, oh, you can make your
- 12:34Speaker 4: photos look better here, and it's like a matter of seconds.
- 12:37Speaker 1: See Joe's thing? Will you get him in the door
- 12:39Speaker 1: to make the sale? That makes sense to me, Like
- 12:41Speaker 1: if you're putting your picture up as a real estate agent,
- 12:43Speaker 1: you want to look caught to get more people.
- 12:46Speaker 2: To call you to sell real estate agents. I don't
- 12:48Speaker 2: give a crap with you.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I don't even like.
- 12:50Speaker 2: We're not having sex. I don't think you're just gonna
- 12:53Speaker 2: handle a paperwork of a transaction. What do you gotta
- 12:56Speaker 2: be hot?
- 12:57Speaker 1: But if that gets you a call and then you
- 12:59Speaker 1: sell them the house, fine, But if you're dating, I mean,
- 13:02Speaker 1: what you look like is a relatively commonly you know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: a high level bar of something. But to me, it's
- 13:12Speaker 1: more like you just committed fraud at a very high level.
- 13:18Speaker 1: What else are you willing to lie about?
- 13:20Speaker 2: Well?
- 13:21Speaker 5: And I think about that, I mean, I mean, and.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I can easily check. How about the ones I can't check,
- 13:25Speaker 1: Like whether or not you got a murder in your background,
- 13:28Speaker 1: or you know, robbed your last husband, or abuse your
- 13:31Speaker 1: kids or whatever. The hell, I'm sorry, did.
- 13:33Speaker 2: You say a murder? Just one? No, anyway, kitty, you
- 13:40Speaker 2: were trying to say something.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Well, no, I just think about, like, how are those
- 13:44Speaker 4: people not mortified or embarrassed?
- 13:47Speaker 5: Like I look nothing.
- 13:48Speaker 1: They're not pictures, they're not And so I've had this
- 13:51Speaker 1: conversation with a whole bunch of people, like a bunch
- 13:53Speaker 1: of people, probably twenty people at this point who've had
- 13:56Speaker 1: the same experience, and all of us but one have
- 14:00Speaker 1: kept our mouth shut just out of a not wanting
- 14:05Speaker 1: to get into confrontation or whatever. You just kind of
- 14:08Speaker 1: keep the coffee meat short and say, hey, you know,
- 14:11Speaker 1: talk to you later, and then you just don't.
- 14:13Speaker 2: That's such a waste of time there for the old
- 14:16Speaker 2: ghost Aerini's off the back door.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Obviously, you'd be on very solid ground to say, look,
- 14:23Speaker 1: you and I both know you don't look anything like you.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I guess because it's so hurtful.
- 14:27Speaker 5: Oh, I could so see you doing that. Hey, so
- 14:30Speaker 5: listen before we get started. You look nothing like your photo.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Right. One woman told me that she held her phone
- 14:36Speaker 1: up and said to this dude, who is like a
- 14:38Speaker 1: foot shorter than he claimed, I'm looking for this guy
- 14:42Speaker 1: have you seen him held the photo that he had sent,
- 14:45Speaker 1: which is a pretty good line. Yeah, yeah, I'm supposed to.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I was at this coffee shop. I'm supposed to meet
- 14:50Speaker 1: this person here. Do you know them?
- 14:52Speaker 5: I love that.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it is.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I guess it's out of sadness. It's like a you're
- 14:58Speaker 1: so uncomfortable with the you look, you feel like you
- 15:01Speaker 1: need to alter your image. I mean, I'm not talking
- 15:05Speaker 1: about minor tweaks, like you're you look like a completely
- 15:12Speaker 1: different person. One of them was just age. You're sixty
- 15:16Speaker 1: and your pictures you're forty. I mean, you just lied
- 15:20Speaker 1: by twenty years of what you look like. You know
- 15:23Speaker 1: that it's his own thing. But then some of the
- 15:25Speaker 1: slimming stuff, I don't know how that works.
- 15:27Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a lot of apps that you can do
- 15:30Speaker 4: that type of stuff with and it's uncomfortable.
- 15:32Speaker 1: And it's pretty good, but again good. So you think
- 15:34Speaker 1: you're gonna show up looking completely different? Okay, Joe's on
- 15:41Speaker 1: his camera and now has changed himself into a pig,
- 15:44Speaker 1: and I'm supposed to just not mention. I'm just supposed
- 15:47Speaker 1: to notice that you're a pig. You're baby route.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Yeah, just keep quiet.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I should just keep that to myself and say I
- 15:53Speaker 1: enjoyed talking to you about politics. That callowing me a pig.
- 15:56Speaker 2: You're calling me a pig, I could use it to
- 15:59Speaker 2: lose a couple of pounce. Calling me a pig.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Is just hurtful, I don't know, but not cool man.
- 16:07Speaker 1: So the big is shaking its head just in case
- 16:10Speaker 1: anybody is thinking about doing this. This is what I've
- 16:12Speaker 1: learned and talking to lots of people. For women, it's
- 16:16Speaker 1: uh weight mostly. For men, it's height and age men,
- 16:21Speaker 1: it's height and age. For women, it's weight mostly, I
- 16:24Speaker 1: guess is the way the way you do it, you
- 16:25Speaker 1: shade your things, so you know, I don't even know
- 16:31Speaker 1: what to think about that. I don't know what to
- 16:32Speaker 1: do about that. It's very discouraging, though you could very
- 16:36Speaker 1: quickly get to a point of because it's it's like,
- 16:38Speaker 1: as many people point out, it's like having a part
- 16:40Speaker 1: time job. It's so time consuming. It's so freaking time
- 16:43Speaker 1: consuming because you get you know, you get whatever, two
- 16:47Speaker 1: to five people a day they have to start a
- 16:50Speaker 1: conversation with, and then women usually do a background check,
- 16:53Speaker 1: so if you get further enough along, you find out
- 16:55Speaker 1: the real name, and then you do a background check
- 16:56Speaker 1: to make sure they're not a sterial killer. It's and
- 16:58Speaker 1: it's a lot of work, and then you a lot
- 17:00Speaker 1: of work. And then if you're a busy ish person
- 17:02Speaker 1: I'm a full time single dad with a kid, carving
- 17:06Speaker 1: out time to go do anything is very, very difficult.
- 17:08Speaker 1: I'm tending to match with people in similar situations, and
- 17:12Speaker 1: you carve out the time to meet somebody you know,
- 17:14Speaker 1: you know completely lied about who you are, So thanks
- 17:17Speaker 1: for wasting hours and hours and hours of time. And
- 17:21Speaker 1: it's it's pretty discouraging it. I realize it works for people,
- 17:26Speaker 1: but not.
- 17:27Speaker 5: As well as he used to.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Everybody that's been on for a while says it's way
- 17:30Speaker 1: worse than it used to be. Whatever they did to
- 17:32Speaker 1: the algorithms when match dot Com bought all the different companies,
- 17:35Speaker 1: it's just, you know, like Joe said, all of the
- 17:38Speaker 1: incentives are against what they claim they're trying to do.
- 17:42Speaker 3: This is why people are going to chatbots, have a
- 17:45Speaker 3: conversations with chatbots, right and and the classic mail order bride.
- 17:51Speaker 2: And then sign nice gal from a different culture is
- 17:54Speaker 2: looking for a new start in America.
- 17:56Speaker 1: There you go, Jack, I did. I did one of
- 17:58Speaker 1: those for a long time. The woman that was clearly phony.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I mean her pictures were way too not just that
- 18:04Speaker 1: she was attractive, but they were professional model shots, obviously,
- 18:09Speaker 1: and she lived in Miami and was interested in me
- 18:12Speaker 1: and everything like okay. So I played that along for
- 18:14Speaker 1: a while, just trying to figure out what the scam was.
- 18:16Speaker 1: But man, it went long way. I talked to her
- 18:18Speaker 1: on the phone, and she was from a foreign land,
- 18:21Speaker 1: and she kept going. She kept sending me videos though,
- 18:23Speaker 1: and I think I was supposed to click on them
- 18:25Speaker 1: and then end up installing malware on my computer. I
- 18:28Speaker 1: never clicked on any of these.
- 18:30Speaker 2: They're probably just torn dog videos.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I don't clearly it was a scam. Clearly it was
- 18:35Speaker 1: a scam. But to your picture, and then I'll shut
- 18:39Speaker 1: up about it, Michael, What my pictures like? What those
- 18:42Speaker 1: of us who are sane are doing. We want to
- 18:44Speaker 1: look exactly like our photos. The last thing in the
- 18:48Speaker 1: world I would want to do is to walk into
- 18:51Speaker 1: a coffee shop and have somebody go ooh, geez, no thanks, you.
- 18:55Speaker 5: Should post on with your mustache.
- 18:57Speaker 1: No, if you're not interested in what I really look like,
- 19:00Speaker 1: I'm showing the mustache.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I hear you talking. That's oh, why why
- 19:08Speaker 2: set yourself up for that sort of you know, embarrassment.
- 19:11Speaker 2: I'm gonna try filters. I'm gonna try makeup.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna wear makeup, and it's point just a waste
- 19:16Speaker 1: of time. Yeap, that did smooth you out. That's the filter.
- 19:22Speaker 2: That's the filters colors, not as a number of profiles,
- 19:27Speaker 2: as hope, number of profiles like mine, say, zero filter.
- 19:30Speaker 1: I am actually this age. All these pictures are in
- 19:32Speaker 1: the last year. That's what a lot of profiles. Of course,
- 19:35Speaker 1: some of them are a lie. They have that smoothed
- 19:37Speaker 1: out filter that just smooths out your skin way too much.
- 19:40Speaker 1: You've probably seen those, Katie. It's very those are cheap filters. Blur.
- 19:44Speaker 1: It's yeah, it just blurs out your face so much.
- 19:46Speaker 1: And that's immediately a path. Why you burn out your
- 19:48Speaker 1: face so much? I don't know. It's weird.
- 19:50Speaker 2: God, the one I just used it makes me really
- 19:53Speaker 2: look like a weak effort at being transgender.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Oh.
- 19:56Speaker 2: One other thing that I'll mention the nice Katie's got
- 19:59Speaker 2: a pandaff handle rain on a cloud above her head,
- 20:02Speaker 2: tossing down red hearts.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Jack, I think you need action shots.
- 20:07Speaker 3: One of you writing one of you, like pointing one
- 20:10Speaker 3: of you.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Like Tom Cruise. Yeah, taking my jacket off like a girl. Yeah.
- 20:16Speaker 1: The other thing. I'll talk about this another time because
- 20:19Speaker 1: this is going pretty long. But you have to get
- 20:21Speaker 1: used to the ghosting. It's just the culture is weird.
- 20:24Speaker 1: The culture is where you'll be talking with somebody over
- 20:26Speaker 1: several days, seems like it's going well, and then people
- 20:29Speaker 1: just stop responding. And like the first time I wanted
- 20:33Speaker 1: to stop responding somebody, I sent him a text and said, hey,
- 20:36Speaker 1: I already had somebody else that got to me first,
- 20:38Speaker 1: So we're gonna go out for coffee. If that doesn't
- 20:40Speaker 1: work out, I'll get back to it. And they said,
- 20:42Speaker 1: you realize nobody does this right. Lets you know that
- 20:46Speaker 1: they met somebody else and they'll get back to you.
- 20:49Speaker 1: That's not the way this works. That's what they actually
- 20:50Speaker 1: told me.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Actually kind of criticized you for being polite.
- 20:56Speaker 1: You don't handle it like normal society. And I have sense,
- 20:58Speaker 1: you know, when in Rome joined in, it's just like
- 21:01Speaker 1: you go along and with the endless possibilities, you decide
- 21:04Speaker 1: another one and you just ghost the five people you've
- 21:06Speaker 1: been having conversations. Oh, it's horrible.
- 21:08Speaker 2: It's terrible.
- 21:09Speaker 1: It's demoralizing, but that's what everybody does, and it's not
- 21:12Speaker 1: good for society. I guarantee you this is making society
- 21:17Speaker 1: worse and more jaded and will lead to fewer long
- 21:20Speaker 1: lasting relationships.
- 21:22Speaker 2: That's unplug the internet. Yeah, on, Katie, you're not a blowfish.
- 21:28Speaker 5: Feel like Alish identify.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Exactly you identify as a blowfish. But you're uninflated.
- 21:35Speaker 1: You I don't know how to I don't know how
- 21:37Speaker 1: to blow up. So as soon as soon as we
- 21:39Speaker 1: get off the air, I will take my six foot
- 21:41Speaker 1: eight frame with long mane of blonde hair back to
- 21:43Speaker 1: Bubble and see how I do.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Wish you well, okay, Jack, here's what you do. You
- 21:49Speaker 3: go on dates with a fake beard. You get to
- 21:51Speaker 3: the dinner table. If she looks like her picture, you
- 21:54Speaker 3: rip the beard off and you go on the date. Otherwise,
- 21:56Speaker 3: you just walk past her and go out the door.
- 21:58Speaker 2: With a fake beard on it perfect goldberry.
- 22:01Speaker 5: Well, I guess that's it.
