- 1:40Speaker 2: We're here to second guess, celebrate and question things that happened this past weekend.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I got Jimmy Reno in studio with me, man.
- 1:49Speaker 2: What's going on, man Woo?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Quite a game.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a game.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Under the lights and.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Duke Campbell.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Quite a Saturday man.
- 2:00Speaker 2: It was, it was man.
- 2:02Speaker 2: It's that time of year.
- 2:04Speaker 2: It's starting to get interesting, as the first rankings come out in about a week after Halloween.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you avoid some some spooky stuff up in Winston Salem on Saturday and I think we should be in that, that initial top four, when they come out.
- 2:25Speaker 2: There was some talk, I know, at the end of the game on the broadcast about FSU being the odd man on default, but that Are we really gonna see game control make a comeback?
- 2:35Speaker 2: No, there's not gonna be.
- 2:37Speaker 1: That may have defeated teams.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I'll tell you what Washington doesn't look like.
- 2:39Speaker 2: They're gonna run the table.
- 2:42Speaker 1: It's hard to see anybody running the table in the Pac-12, but you know what?
- 2:45Speaker 1: You can say the same about the ACC if you're sitting on the other side of the country.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Right, because look at North Carolina man that was the shocker of the weekend, losing at home, favored by like 24.
- 2:57Speaker 1: The Mac attack.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Against.
- 2:59Speaker 2: The team hasn't beat a power five opponent all year.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I know.
- 3:03Speaker 2: And they lose at home to Virginia.
- 3:05Speaker 2: The hands of a true freshman quarterback at Virginia, just when you think you know that North Carolina's starting to take that next step.
- 3:15Speaker 1: You know what?
- 3:16Speaker 1: It's not crazy, man, if Tony Elliott just gets a couple breaks his way in terms of maybe some some real talent being on the roster and being able to land a couple guys.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Maybe he doesn't get fired, which everybody had impact for, but yeah, north Carolina, what a blown chance.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Maybe you blew your season right there.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, I mean, the race for the Charlotte is going to get interesting.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Florida.
- 3:44Speaker 2: State is clearly in the driver's seat.
- 3:45Speaker 2: With the win Saturday night Over Duke, they're in first place all alone.
- 3:50Speaker 1: If you're North Carolina, you don't give up on Charlotte, obviously, but you had real.
- 3:57Speaker 2: You had a shot where you were had a shot at the playoff.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if you win out, you're gonna match up against Florida State, probably in the in Charlotte, and you win that game.
- 4:07Speaker 2: You have Heisman contender all that down the drain.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Yeah, everything, everything you had going for you, leading into that next step.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Speaking of Heisman contenders down the drain, michael Penix went from like I'm talking front runner minus 45 to now he's second in a row.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Really really rough game.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it wasn't for the pick six, they would not have beaten.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Oh, dillingham squad.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Dilly, dilly.
- 4:36Speaker 2: That's that's just that's hard to believe if they're a real contender to struggle like that it is.
- 4:42Speaker 2: But I mean, it was a regular.
- 4:45Speaker 1: If you know, if it was a regular, if Arizona State didn't have a depleted roster that's just been gutted by sanctions and scholarship limitations, I'd be like, yeah, you know, it's just conference game coming back down to earth after a couple big ones, but nah, man, that's.
- 5:00Speaker 1: That's really inexcusable.
- 5:05Speaker 2: But it all I mean it all worked out great for Florida State and I think what was a hard fought game I really had gained a lot of respect Dukes for real, and if any, you know there was a lot.
- 5:15Speaker 2: It took it's a four quarter game there.
- 5:17Speaker 2: They're well coached you had to figure it out and they have new guys because of the transfer portal, you know.
- 5:25Speaker 2: So they were physically able to match up a lot more than I think a lot of people expected.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah, because of the name on the helmet, right.
- 5:34Speaker 1: The thing is, is that the way that Elko coaches his style of defense?
- 5:40Speaker 1: When you combine that with with kids that are smart and, you know, play disciplined, smart football but are also talented Like dude, it's really difficult to have success right out of the gate.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And even during the game, like I know that people probably expected us to come out and steamroll them, because that's usually what happens when Florida State plays Duke, I'm just gonna say, like, at the end of the season, it's a really good bet that they're gonna statistically, from a statistical standpoint, be the best defense that we faced all season.
- 6:18Speaker 1: And again, like we weren't gonna come out and hit big you know big plays to Keon.
- 6:26Speaker 1: That wasn't gonna happen.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Duke doesn't let that happen, right, that's their defense.
- 6:30Speaker 1: That's, you know the philosophy.
- 6:31Speaker 1: We had a couple chances where he broke free and, had they been able to connect, may have gone for a long touchdown.
- 6:38Speaker 1: You know we missed them for a different reason Bad throw on one, missed holding, call on the other, right.
- 6:44Speaker 1: But what was impressive to me is like, okay, when it's when Duke's done what they do and they've put you, you know, back against the wall on offense, like the only way to beat them is you got to drive the field and you got a score touched.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Right which they don't give up.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:02Speaker 2: They don't give up long drives, that's what they bank on.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:04Speaker 1: You're not gonna be able to do it like we're either gonna be able to physically stop you or you're gonna screw up and we're gonna be right there to you have to take yeah, exactly.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And that dude like that's what I wanted to see out of Jordan Travis in particular, and he did it right when he needed to and he did it.
- 7:22Speaker 1: And what people have been saying all season is you know, why doesn't he run?
- 7:25Speaker 1: Wasn't well when he needed the touchdown.
- 7:27Speaker 1: He ran four times on that drive man, it looked like.
- 7:31Speaker 2: It looked like to Jordan Travis.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Florida, maybe last year at times.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah, we got it when I got to do it, man it was good to see and he needed it and it's right at the right time and it was just.
- 7:43Speaker 1: It was definitely the X factor in that game 14 plays, 96 yards, six minutes and 18 seconds, four plays using his legs, four plays using the middle of the field and Jeheem Bell.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I mean that right, there was the story of the game, yep 27 to 36 too.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Very efficient 268 yards through the air, two touchdowns.
- 8:07Speaker 2: They'd have a pick which went for a touchdown, but his response and the team's response, with the special team's touchdown immediately after shows you the resiliency that this squad has, and let's think about it After that fact.
- 8:20Speaker 1: It was what, midway in the second quarter, right.
- 8:22Speaker 1: When he threw it.
- 8:23Speaker 1: From then on, it's 31 to three, right.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Okay, so that's, you know, four quarter game.
- 8:31Speaker 1: People saying we didn't look good.
- 8:33Speaker 1: You know, we want, you know it's, it's.
- 8:36Speaker 2: that's the old ad that's just looking at it, with the dominance of the series being that you're playing Duke, it's at night it's the Duke effect.
- 8:44Speaker 2: But at the end of the day you covered the spread, yeah, and you beat a team.
- 8:48Speaker 2: It's going to be.
- 8:49Speaker 2: That's a good team.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Did you see them against Clemson?
- 8:52Speaker 2: Did you see them against Notre Dame?
- 8:54Speaker 2: And I'm and I even with the backup quarterback did you see him against NC State?
- 8:58Speaker 2: Handle the Wolfpack 24 to three, right, you know like that, right.
- 9:02Speaker 2: So this was a quality opponent who you had to figure out, and you had moments where you did throw a pick, since you were down 10 points twice.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Yeah, you, you handed them 10 points.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Right With the fourth down.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll get in that here in a second.
- 9:17Speaker 1: But the thing is is, I don't know, man, I just I really do.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I fully believed like it could have been any other team with a different name on the helmet and people would be like, had this been a team like you know, miami or Clinton or Florida, like they would be like holy shit, did you see how great we looked?
- 9:38Speaker 1: You know, we dominated man.
- 9:39Speaker 1: It was just a classic game and we looked, so you know right.
- 9:42Speaker 2: But because it's Duke, I think people really expected us to come in there and and like well, I mean you still had a 420 total yards Right Against one of the best defenses in the country.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Right, you still scored 31 points on offense.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Yeah, 31, 31 points.
- 10:01Speaker 2: And against a team that, averaged to, allows 9.8 points all year.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we every statistical category they have.
- 10:08Speaker 1: So, Set records for their defense.
- 10:11Speaker 2: You.
- 10:11Speaker 2: They make you earn it with efficient play consistently.
- 10:16Speaker 2: And you had and we passed the test.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Yeah, physical play.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Physical efficient play.
- 10:21Speaker 2: And that's what Florida State was able to do on those drives in the fourth quarter.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Yeah, they warmed out, they warmed down.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Um, they were efficient seven to 13 on third down for the game.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean there's no for two on fourth.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, let's get in there.
- 10:37Speaker 1: That was the beginning of the game, yeah.
- 10:39Speaker 2: That's just something that this team is going to do?
- 10:41Speaker 1: Yeah, they are.
- 10:41Speaker 1: And you know what I don't?
- 10:45Speaker 2: The first one seemed to be Jordan Travis making that rushed call, and it was a good it would have worked if it was a little more play by the defensive line of Duke to really last minute.
- 10:53Speaker 2: They shifted and really trapped and got it.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Dude, they can play man, he shot the gap, but the second one, the, second one was a little further back and if you're going to go for it, I don't like the play call.
- 11:06Speaker 1: No, all right, let's start off with going for it.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Um, I understand that Norvelle is an analytics guy.
- 11:12Speaker 1: He uses numbers and what you do in this situation by percentages and all blah, blah, blah.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Great man.
- 11:19Speaker 1: The thing is is they're not going to tell you a situation like that of, of you know, risk reward.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:27Speaker 1: So what do you, what do you really get out of out of this?
- 11:28Speaker 1: Well, you extend the drive, but you're not guaranteeing yourself that you're going to get another first down.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:35Speaker 1: You're not even guaranteed that you're going to have the ball after you run the next play, right?
- 11:39Speaker 1: The only guarantee is that if you don't get this yard and a half now, duke has the ball and they're immediately in field goal range.
- 11:45Speaker 1: So for me, I would like to head coach at that point, to take and be like you know what.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Make him at least have to earn a field goal.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I'm going to at least give my defense a little bit of help here and not pin them potentially pin them back, because you know what I understand what he's trying to avoid.
- 12:01Speaker 1: We just got held, they just scored a long touchdown.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I don't want to punt the ball right back, blah, blah, blah, but look, what you're trying to avoid just happened and that's what translates into now the second part of it, which is the call.
- 12:13Speaker 1: If it was a run pass option and Travis just decided to give it to Benson, then that's on Jordan.
- 12:21Speaker 1: If it was a straight handoff call, then what the hell are we doing?
- 12:25Speaker 1: Like?
- 12:25Speaker 1: That play is a toss up at best.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Every time they run it it's far from a guaranteed yard or yard and a half, which is what you have to run in that situation.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I just think I don't know it was double buffoonery right there Handed them three points.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Luckily, the defense, you know they stood tough and it didn't ultimately cost us.
- 12:47Speaker 1: But that's the kind of stuff that I was really worried about going into the game when you turn it over on downs first two possessions.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and then they score the first two possessions.
- 12:57Speaker 2: They get a touchdown and then they, like you said that we gifted them a field goal.
- 13:00Speaker 2: If you punt the ball, they end up putting it right back to us.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and maybe that's the one thing I get it the momentum at point in the game you're fired up.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Feel the crowd in it.
- 13:10Speaker 2: They just scored, but let them have to do it again.
- 13:13Speaker 2: You know, I agree, but you know but that brings us to what the response there was.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Enough was the first drive 13 plays, 85 yard drive for six and a half minutes.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And Travis did it through the air for most of it and that you know two biggest spots in the game, two times when you're you're backs against the wall and you have to have it and you're going to have to go the length of the field and he did it.
- 13:40Speaker 1: So I mean for me, watching him, that's probably the most poised and the best he's looked all season, even including the LSU game.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I mean, I know he put up the stats in the LSU game, but the big plays were there against LSU and he didn't have that in this game and he wasn't going to have it.
- 14:01Speaker 1: You saw him not get frustrated and operate the off there.
- 14:05Speaker 2: They're there Started with the hit hit the big biscuit.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, he hit Johnny Wilson for 11 yards.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Who?
- 14:11Speaker 1: was.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Wilson was huge continues to be that.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I hope he's okay.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I do too.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Morelock and Jaheem.
- 14:17Speaker 1: They played great.
- 14:18Speaker 1: They were huge in this game, middle of the field, west, where you had to make it Yep you had to play.
- 14:24Speaker 2: You had to get your first downs one by one, almost methodically down the field.
- 14:27Speaker 2: That's what forces you to do.
- 14:29Speaker 2: And what I, what I think when we were able to do that Big game from Jaheem Bell.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Career high and catch not just catching the ball, dude, he's blocking his ass man, his lead blocks are great.
- 14:39Speaker 2: That's my.
- 14:40Speaker 2: My favorite play was when he led block all the way to the end zone for JT.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Yeah, freeman, duke's leading tackler.
- 14:47Speaker 1: When he left the game late it was after getting lit up by J that.
- 14:52Speaker 1: That dude, I mean that was his game.
- 14:54Speaker 1: He was working his tail off to get that win.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Yeah, big play in that drive alone the first down.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Yeah it was third and third and 11.
- 15:03Speaker 2: He hit.
- 15:05Speaker 2: He hit his guy yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Johnny Wilson yeah, that's that's the, that's his go-to guy and and he's being able he had the case of the drops in the beginning of the year, but he's making.
- 15:15Speaker 2: He's making that catch, radius man.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Yeah, he catches him high, he catches him low listen when you get that many targets, reliable target.
- 15:22Speaker 1: You might drop some, but as long as you make the plays when you need to make the plays and he has been doing that.
- 15:27Speaker 1: That's now like that that was passing her ference in the end zone.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I don't care what anybody says.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Blades was on him three seconds before the ball got there, but forget the name Duke on the helmet and the history of that football program.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Like that's a team that would finish at the top of the conference, you know.
- 15:47Speaker 1: That's the top three or four in any conference right.
- 15:51Speaker 2: I mean you hit all the tight ends got involved tonight.
- 15:53Speaker 2: That was good to see.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's their physical team, and then you need to get big biscuit involved.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yeah, and you've got to use the middle of the field and he's under the radar.
- 16:02Speaker 2: They have three tight ends that can beat you.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean Preston Daniel can walk in there and you know not be terrible even as a walk-on, and We'll see we have to say, homes getting more time when he had the first touchdown?
- 16:16Speaker 1: Yeah, you're seeing him more in there.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I think Florida states realizing that they're gonna have to use All four backs throughout the game.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I mean, it's you see what they do on the offensive line.
- 16:26Speaker 1: They use seven or eight during the game to keep them fresh.
- 16:28Speaker 1: It's the same thing they do on the defensive line and you saw that take effect like just the depth.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Duke got their ass worn out, man right, they play that physical football and they expect other teams to wear down quicker.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Florida State didn't, and that you know man, it seemed to be that they had that one big run the first play, like they had the touchdown.
- 16:49Speaker 2: I don't really remember them doing much offensively.
- 16:52Speaker 1: They had a, you know, a good drive to get a field goal Florida, you know they, jack was more man kid out of Swannie Played, you know, at alive oak played a Swannie high school number nine hundred ten yards on the game.
- 17:03Speaker 1: But he he was, it was essentially him against Florida State's defense.
- 17:08Speaker 1: I know everybody thinks that Riley Leonard was having a great game.
- 17:12Speaker 1: He really wasn't.
- 17:13Speaker 1: You know what was he?
- 17:14Speaker 2: seven to sixteen for now, no, no, he had a terrible game.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he had a one run for about 15 yards and I Get it.
- 17:23Speaker 1: You know he's.
- 17:24Speaker 1: He's a better decision maker.
- 17:25Speaker 2: He's got a little bit they had one drive after it was 14 plays, 58 yards.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah, they just feel gold take the lead.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Yeah, that was that was Jack was more in the running game and they just, you know, they kind of pounded and pounded and pounded until it was time for Florida State's but then they had the third Quarter drive that you see that they were trying to do that another 10 play, 57 yards, six and six, but they went for it and it's, it's for me.
- 17:47Speaker 1: It's a little bit man.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I was such that was.
- 17:49Speaker 2: That was a turning point.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yeah, they're up 20 to 17.
- 17:53Speaker 1: My whole thing is here is like is is what if Fisk doesn't grab his face mask?
- 17:57Speaker 1: What if he just gets the sack?
- 17:59Speaker 1: Mm-hmm because then I believe it would have been third and long.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he doesn't probably kick it yeah he doesn't get hurt, well, they're out of field goal range.
- 18:07Speaker 1: If he gets the sack, third and long maybe Leonard stays in.
- 18:11Speaker 1: But, like my whole thing, they had shown nothing that said they were gonna.
- 18:14Speaker 1: They were gonna get in a shootout against us, right, and Riley Leonard done played defense.
- 18:19Speaker 1: So people that are you know say all the reason you want is cuz Leonard got hurt and no.
- 18:26Speaker 2: No, no, no, no you.
- 18:27Speaker 2: You went up against the best defense in the conference, one of the best in the country this year.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and you beat, and you beat him at their own game.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Yeah, took exactly what they gave you and then, when it got down to the goal, twice, yeah, twice you push them around 14 play.
- 18:44Speaker 2: I mean that that brings up the drive of the game.
- 18:46Speaker 2: I mean right after the turnover on downs down 20 to 17.
- 18:50Speaker 2: You stop them, the defense stops them.
- 18:52Speaker 2: And then In the four yard line, jordan Travis, 14 plays 96 yards To go up 24 to 20.
- 19:02Speaker 2: That was just an impressive drive drive, probably the best I've seen him all year.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, just decision-making, staying poised.
- 19:14Speaker 1: You know it.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Really, that whole fourth quarter Florida State was on a different operating level.
- 19:21Speaker 1: But it, you know, games, games against good teams like that, that's how they're gonna go.
- 19:27Speaker 1: People should forget about, like I said, they wore him down.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Yeah, forget about the name, Duke.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Take this as a really, really, really good win on the season.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know, dude, I'm.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I was shocked that they did it.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Man, I really was that.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I did not think that in that situation, florida State was gonna drive the ball and, you know, put a touchdown in there.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Yeah, well, duke play.
- 19:53Speaker 2: I mean, they did their game plan and Florida State was able to beat him.
- 19:57Speaker 2: You know, and I think that shows a lot, they showed a lot of resiliency.
- 20:00Speaker 2: They can beat you in multiple ways.
- 20:02Speaker 2: This team plays Every side of the ball.
- 20:06Speaker 2: They had to touch down another, another punt, reach another kickoff, return, do span.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Yeah that was a huge play.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Right after you know, they get a pick six to come back and get your guy like that.
- 20:17Speaker 2: That shows so much Team.
- 20:19Speaker 2: This team plays together.
- 20:21Speaker 2: They play with a lot, of, a lot of resiliency.
- 20:24Speaker 1: And it's and it's team-wide man.
- 20:26Speaker 1: It's a guy that's not featured a ton.
- 20:28Speaker 1: You know his opportunity.
- 20:30Speaker 1: He's out there striving to just I'm gonna try to do something great.
- 20:34Speaker 1: But you know it did exactly what Norvell told him.
- 20:37Speaker 1: It's funny is on the broadcast they showed Norvell Pregame talking to him saying you know, ball in left hand, get ready for that stiff arm with your right arm.
- 20:45Speaker 1: You know, tuck it and run.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Did exactly what he told him.
- 20:50Speaker 1: And it's just, you know, first time in the season that I've really looked at the team like dude.
- 20:57Speaker 1: They have the capability of running the table in the regular season and if they can, if they can, you know, respond like that when the adversity hits every time.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Nighttime is the right time.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Yeah, this team, yeah, you notice is they think they play better when everybody's watching.
- 21:15Speaker 1: They do.
- 21:16Speaker 2: They do, but you know another game on the road.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Yeah, we got a couple of weeks where they got to just in wake on the trap a wake for his team.
- 21:24Speaker 2: That's beat you three times in a row.
- 21:25Speaker 2: We're gonna look forward to that game.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Let's look around.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Sam Hartman ain't lining up under centers.
- 21:30Speaker 2: No, that's right and but uh, you know I was going Home after the game.
- 21:35Speaker 2: What a great night at dope.
- 21:36Speaker 2: I mean, a night game at dope really is Just a great atmosphere and the crowd brought it again.
- 21:42Speaker 2: It was a, it was good to see.
- 21:44Speaker 2: But coming home, you know you hear Clemson, miami's in double overtime so I tune in and Miami was able to pull it out.
- 21:53Speaker 2: 28 to 20 questionable call at the end for Clemson.
- 21:56Speaker 2: You know some.
- 21:58Speaker 2: They had some questionable calls looking back at that game fumble by shipply.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I do Figured a costly time going.
- 22:07Speaker 2: They've been doing that a lot this year.
- 22:11Speaker 1: It's 17 to 7 going into the fourth quarter.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Even when Miami scored, I was like, alright, they're gonna end up losing 17 14.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Just like I said, you know Clemson will win, but not look great.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Especially when by van Dyke was announced that he wasn't playing like dude, I was like, oh, there's no well, the true freshman from right here, north Florida, milton, yeah.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Milton Florida man, he didn't, you know.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Fourth quarter he did his thing.
- 22:34Speaker 1: You know he just let it fly.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I mean he let.
- 22:37Speaker 1: He did get bailed out a couple times, but that, you know, got a great receiver out there that can do things.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I tell you what that did.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Look good, they used Kobe.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Yeah, he can get you out of here.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I mean, they did him.
- 22:49Speaker 2: You got to use that guy kind of like Keon Coleman's used here and yeah, I mean he was, he went just.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Kobe young is an NFL receiver.
- 22:56Speaker 1: He showed that with the Juco route, so he didn't come in with the fanfare, right, but he is the body.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a prototypical guy and he that's right.
- 23:04Speaker 2: But that was good to see you.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Just that's what you want to see if you're a Miami fan is get the ball to Kobe young.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Yeah get the ball to these guys.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I mean Kobe young doesn't need a perfect pass.
- 23:13Speaker 1: No, and I know they've been getting on van dyke about locking in on Restrepo.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I mean, it is man, 17 targets for one guy right is a lot right.
- 23:20Speaker 1: But it yeah, and I was surprised that clip TVD remains the starter.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Probably.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I don't I mean they're playing.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I hope so they're playing Virginia.
- 23:30Speaker 1: If he still has the leg in thing going, then I don't see why they wouldn't roll Emory out there for Virginia, just to kind of keep van dyke getting healthy.
- 23:38Speaker 1: I say any game that they feel like they're gonna need.
- 23:41Speaker 1: You know their guy that they're gonna try van dyke out there.
- 23:45Speaker 1: But if Emory say, plays this week and kicks the crap out of Virginia, then you might have a little bit of a stew going down there.
- 23:53Speaker 1: But I tell you the guy is from Miami, is Ruben Bain.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Yeah, damn, 10 QB pressures in that game.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I had it.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that Clemson didn't?
- 24:08Speaker 2: They had a couple of like contested passes To the tight end, but the defense for Miami brought it.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but that that you know.
- 24:20Speaker 2: They were run the ball and Clemson's defense Miami was yeah, they were and they got.
- 24:24Speaker 1: They got a really powerful offensive line that AJ Allen kid that they put in at the end Of the game maybe that's more of an efficient way to play for them than having TVd.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Is maybe you?
- 24:35Speaker 2: They need that more of a balanced attack.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Run the ball.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I think they have the ability to do that with more efficiency.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Yes, because of that offensive line right of the fact that they have three, maybe four running backs that can produce for you.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I know that's not Shannon Dawson's Background, you know he likes to spread them out and throw it around.
- 24:55Speaker 1: But you know, dude, you just beat Clemson kind of power ball in them playing defense.
- 25:02Speaker 2: I, you know so the last play of the game was a.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Clemson is bro.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Legger.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Clemson is.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Then you have dabo after the game, all but call out his coach.
- 25:13Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sorry, his yeah, so it was a pretty sure to hand it at all straight hand.
- 25:18Speaker 2: I like that I really didn't.
- 25:20Speaker 1: If it did, then then chiply was carrying out the play fake like a champ on on.
- 25:24Speaker 1: You know improv right you know, I Just think that I Think they're a broken offensive team.
- 25:32Speaker 1: You know, I think he brought in Garrett Riley, made that that higher and then he's just kind of trying.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Well, it's just they haven't they had to catch up, you know, with the transfer portal.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Now, yeah, and you look at the rosters right of all the teams.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Though I got it, you got to be able to get players when they're there.
- 25:49Speaker 1: I get that doing it or states doing it.
- 25:51Speaker 2: You lost to both those teams this year my.
- 25:53Speaker 1: My thing about that is then, you know, there's still guys on both sides of the ball for Clemson that were were Highly touted, even coming into this year, by sports writers.
- 26:04Speaker 1: The very same guys that are now, you know, getting all over dabo Sweeney because he's not Going out and getting these guys in the transfer portal it.
- 26:13Speaker 2: But I agree with you Well, you don't well, they don't all hit.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with you.
- 26:17Speaker 1: He's clearly, you know, like it's a Keeping up with the time staying in terms of development more of like a philosophy that he doesn't want to do, because that's how he recruits people.
- 26:25Speaker 2: It's like kind of like a cult, oh yeah, he wanted to, so it would go against kind of his whole.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Using an example, a kid like Keon Coleman would never be looked at by dabo Sweeney, even though they clearly have a need for a game-breaking wide receiver, a deep downfield threat.
- 26:41Speaker 1: You know, if they would have gone all in on Keon Coleman, you know, in terms of Whatever it takes to get you here, we want to help you get like.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Your goal is to play one season and get in the NFL.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Listen, we're bringing Garrett Riley over from TCU.
- 26:54Speaker 1: We're gonna make you the feature of the offense.
- 26:57Speaker 1: We're going downfield to you.
- 26:58Speaker 1: We, you know, all the time just put themselves in the mix.
- 27:02Speaker 1: But he would never do that, you know, because that's not what he wants.
- 27:05Speaker 1: He doesn't want a guy there, that's, you know, only got his mind on, you know, playing football to get to the league and he's only gonna be here one.
- 27:12Speaker 1: No, he wants a guy.
- 27:13Speaker 1: He knows out of high school that he knows his family for a while, that he knows, you know, he's come up and he's learned things the Clemson way and we do it this way here.
- 27:20Speaker 1: And, yeah, that philosophy right now is taking a hit because the sport is moving more towards a semi-pro approach.
- 27:31Speaker 1: You know, okay, these kids want to play football to get to the league, but that's okay.
- 27:34Speaker 1: We can still bring these kids in here and help them Understand that, like, listen, you can.
- 27:39Speaker 1: You can have those aspirations and that can be your focus and we'll help you focus on that and all you got to do is just show Work, ethic and the same kind of respect that we you know we want out of kids in the program.
- 27:51Speaker 1: You don't have to come in here and go to church with us.
- 27:53Speaker 1: You know you don't have to come in here and you know we're not gonna take you out and try to baptize you in a lake man.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Yeah, like nah, this is football.
- 28:02Speaker 1: There's nothing wrong with that you know you got to come here and go to school.
- 28:05Speaker 1: You gotta do your academics and you know we'll help you with that.
- 28:08Speaker 2: It's just you can't be she closed.
- 28:09Speaker 2: You can't close the door on such a Opportunity to make your team better.
- 28:13Speaker 1: It's still about, you know, winning games.
- 28:15Speaker 2: It's still about having the best players on the field, you have to adjust with the times and he's, he's been against the NIL, against that entire you know the line the margins.
- 28:25Speaker 2: The margins are getting smaller.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Yeah the parody is getting smaller.
- 28:29Speaker 2: He's getting ready, he's getting yeah, so every little thing is gonna make that the difference.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and you look at their recruiting class this year and you know it's top-heavy.
- 28:40Speaker 1: There's a couple of guys that are highly rated, but they're not guys that are necessarily highly coveted.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Mm-hmm you know Sammy Brown, the linebacker, the number one linebacker, I mean.
- 28:50Speaker 1: He's from a small school in Georgia.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I know Georgia and Alabama looked at him but they're not still recruiting them.
- 28:55Speaker 1: You know he wanted to go to Clemson.
- 28:57Speaker 1: All right, we'll let him go to Clemson.
- 28:58Speaker 1: There's other guys out there.
- 28:59Speaker 1: You know there's, there's not these.
- 29:01Speaker 1: They're not getting these, can't miss guys anymore.
- 29:04Speaker 1: You know they got a couple of them a year ago.
- 29:06Speaker 1: They got a few the year before, but it's dwindling off because you know the way that it works, the way the game is played is different.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Now it's changing.
- 29:15Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens with him.
- 29:17Speaker 1: If Dabo doesn't change his approach, they're gonna end up with, you know, more losses, more seasons like this, and right now they got a problem at QB.
- 29:26Speaker 1: If in fact, he went rogue and just did his own play, that's a huge problem.
- 29:33Speaker 2: You don't say that.
- 29:33Speaker 2: You don't say that, even if he does, you don't put your player under the bus like that in college.
- 29:38Speaker 1: And I don't buy it.
- 29:39Speaker 1: I don't buy it.
- 29:39Speaker 1: I think maybe he didn't really know what the hell was going on the last play Dabo, and he's just trying to come up with an answer.
- 29:47Speaker 2: It's a new time for Dabo.
- 29:49Speaker 2: It's all I mean, because he said it after the dude game he never seen anything like it.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Never seen anything like it.
- 29:55Speaker 1: He just feel yeah, it's like dude, your roster isn't better than everybody else's anymore.
- 30:00Speaker 2: And it's the margins.
- 30:01Speaker 2: All three games he's lost have been in the margins.
- 30:03Speaker 2: I guess the dude game it kind of really fell off with the turn on his back.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Yeah, for the first time in a while, he's had to really look both defense and offense.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Be the overseer of both, of those no more venables, no more burnt vegetables, dude.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Right man, speaking of them, they almost you thought that was gonna be 100 and nothing.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Dude, everybody thought it.
- 30:23Speaker 2: I know.
- 30:23Speaker 1: UCF fans thought it and let me tell you something they should be livid with Gus Malzahn and I, like, dude, you're gonna play Oklahoma this good, you're gonna score, have a chance to tie it up and call that play for the two point inversion.
- 30:39Speaker 1: That shit doesn't work in my in Junior's games.
- 30:43Speaker 2: I know.
- 30:44Speaker 2: They call it too many things that have to go right.
- 30:48Speaker 2: That's not.
- 30:49Speaker 2: That's a lazy second play.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Isolate the receiver, who they couldn't cover, and just throw it up to them, man.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Wow, but man, just when you think you got it right on Oklahoma, you know they're.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Yeah, they look, they look bad man.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I just I don't know.
- 31:04Speaker 1: I don't know if the familiarity of the tempo that they use got them, cause I mean, Gus runs the same tempo.
- 31:10Speaker 1: So that defense has seen it every week in practice.
- 31:12Speaker 1: But I think they just took them lightly, man, they just slept, walked through that game, Yep.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Think, speaking of sleep, walking through a game nobody, I mean nobody.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Had Virginia going into North Carolina and winning that game?
- 31:27Speaker 2: Nobody.
- 31:28Speaker 2: I know there's probably somebody who did no.
- 31:30Speaker 1: No, that's bad.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Nobody.
- 31:32Speaker 2: That's real bad.
- 31:33Speaker 1: It's real bad.
- 31:34Speaker 2: That's a goodness, gracious man.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Like Mac man, this isn't.
- 31:38Speaker 1: This isn't 96.
- 31:39Speaker 2: It's not even like a good.
- 31:41Speaker 2: They're not a good team.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Virginia's not a good team.
- 31:44Speaker 1: No, they're not.
- 31:45Speaker 2: They ran the ball.
- 31:47Speaker 1: It's not just that they're not good, they're not experienced, they just ran it.
- 31:50Speaker 1: You know they got true freshman quarterback.
- 31:52Speaker 2: They got 230 yards and they fumbled to go up even further in the end.
- 31:57Speaker 2: I just and, at the end of the day, they can't protect.
- 32:00Speaker 2: They can't protect Drake May.
- 32:02Speaker 1: That's you know.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Paysor went down last week one of their other receivers and, you know, before Tess Walker showed up, he was really their their home run hitter.
- 32:11Speaker 1: So I think the game plan was don't let Tess Walker beat you, and they don't really have anybody at receiver that can stretch the field.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Yeah, man, they made life miserable for Drake May.
- 32:25Speaker 2: And they were just just kept pounding the ball.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Big 26 first downs for Virginia.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Dude, that's a huge loss.
- 32:32Speaker 1: That is defense looks like it's still pretty soft, right Carolina.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Right, and that just opens up the ACC race.
- 32:40Speaker 2: You have a four way tie for second, and that includes the Hokies.
- 32:44Speaker 1: The Hokies man?
- 32:45Speaker 1: Yeah, they can win out and find those, oh yeah.
- 32:48Speaker 2: They have probably the easiest route of those teams.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say so.
- 32:52Speaker 1: They get by Louisville and there's, you know, there's no reason to think.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Dude, we'll play Louisville next week.
- 32:57Speaker 1: That's a big one.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:59Speaker 1: One of those teams is done after that.
- 33:00Speaker 1: I don't know the status of Riley Leonard, if you know everybody who was questioning.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Who knows what to think with North Carolina?
- 33:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:09Speaker 1: You know, Elko may have outsmarted himself a little bit Going down the rest of the season.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Is he down the rest of the season?
- 33:16Speaker 1: I don't know if he'll be out the rest of the season, but if he can't play next week, that it just.
- 33:20Speaker 1: You know your season is pretty much in the toilet now.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Which, what it, what it could have been, I get it.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Man, you know you got a shot at Florida State.
- 33:28Speaker 1: The kid was moving around pretty well, but he clearly was not a hundred percent, and that that you can't lose at home to Virginia man.
- 33:39Speaker 1: No, that's ridiculous, that's, that's awful.
- 33:43Speaker 2: That's ridiculous.
- 33:43Speaker 1: That's the unrealized idea of the week.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Right, yeah, there you go.
- 33:47Speaker 1: And I, just I man, I don't understand why, like, how, how.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Unrealized idea, unrealized, there it is.
- 33:58Speaker 3: I mean goodness gracious I mean goodness gracious.
- 34:01Speaker 2: You thought, oh, North Carolina's got a spot in Charlotte.
- 34:05Speaker 2: It's just, it's just going to be a showdown.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Drake May, Jordan, Travis, Heisman Contenders a shot at the playoff for both the teams.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Unrealized idea Unrealized.
- 34:15Speaker 2: North Carolina is a national contender now.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Unrealized idea.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Unrealized.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Drake May is the best quarterback in the country and he's going to win the Heisman.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Unrealized idea Unrealized.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Think he might go number one over Caleb Williams.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Unrealized idea Unrealized.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Sending Mac Brown in his final year off on a golden parachute.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Unrealized idea Unrealized.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Oh my goodness.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Right, what's going on, man?
- 34:48Speaker 2: Wow, I mean they still have to play Duke and they have to go to Clemson and NC State, so I think North Carolina's out.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Yeah, who's it going to be?
- 34:56Speaker 2: Duke.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Could be, duke, watch out for the damn Hokies.
- 35:00Speaker 2: I know, I know.
- 35:01Speaker 1: That Louisville, that Virginia Tech Louisville game may be if Louisville gets past Duke, and I'm just going to assume that Riley Leonard won't play next week Really I do, if you like first of all, playing on a high ankle sprain, that thing was going to look like a grapefruit Sunday morning regardless, and if he tweaked it again it's going to be even worse.
- 35:20Speaker 1: And you're not going to run him back out out there a week later Like dude.
- 35:24Speaker 1: We got to make sure this thing is fully.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Let's see.
- 35:27Speaker 2: All right, virginia Tech, they get Syracuse at home.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:32Speaker 2: They get, then they have to go to Louisville.
- 35:37Speaker 1: That's the big one, man.
- 35:38Speaker 2: They get to go to Louisville NBC and then they have NC State of Home in Virginia.
- 35:43Speaker 2: I mean it's very doable.
- 35:45Speaker 2: I guess it's doable man, it's doable.
- 35:47Speaker 1: The way they're playing right now with drones at quarterback, and if he continues to just get better week by week, even little increments, dude, it's doable.
- 36:00Speaker 2: You'll have a scenario where Florida State will have a shot their spot wrapped up, if they win the next two weeks.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it yeah.
- 36:12Speaker 2: FSU is looking for bigger things than that.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean right now, as they look for the playoff and the rankings come out when the AP pull is out.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Georgia is still number one, michigan number two, ohio State three.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Florida State four.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Ohio State's win.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Was that impressive, huh.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Well, it was, I guess, because the Penn State was ranked high.
- 36:36Speaker 2: But I watched the game.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Who wins out of Duke and Penn State?
- 36:40Speaker 1: Both teams full strength.
- 36:42Speaker 2: I'll tell you what I'd like.
- 36:43Speaker 2: I'd like, well, yeah, riley Leonard's healthy.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Yeah, who's who's winning out of that game?
- 36:48Speaker 1: You know like.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Penn State's got a good defense.
- 36:51Speaker 1: They do.
- 36:52Speaker 1: I guess I mean the teams they've played.
- 36:54Speaker 2: But man, when does James Franklin ever he?
- 36:56Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 36:57Speaker 2: He was he.
- 36:58Speaker 2: If it wasn't for Mac Brown, he would have got the unrealized.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:04Speaker 2: He might get the career unrealized.
- 37:05Speaker 1: It's gonna be eventually dude, but he's won three games against.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Ohio State and Michigan.
- 37:09Speaker 2: He never beats anybody good.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Combined no.
- 37:12Speaker 1: He made his his Penn State career off beaten Wisconsin in Michigan State.
- 37:16Speaker 1: As he every every once in a while.
- 37:18Speaker 2: I was good the recruiter and just doesn't win the big games there.
- 37:23Speaker 2: He's not gonna win it.
- 37:24Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, no, not happening, nope.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Well, big game.
- 37:28Speaker 1: James is over over life.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Texas held on.
- 37:32Speaker 1: They did.
- 37:33Speaker 1: They got some help from the refs.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:35Speaker 1: You know they, they could have won it in overtime.
- 37:37Speaker 2: They were up big in the beginning, but Houston battled back.
- 37:39Speaker 1: That's just what Houston does.
- 37:40Speaker 1: I mean they're not good.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Holgerston is just like all right, you know the the hangover wears off about a quarter into the game and he starts calling a decent game plan.
- 37:50Speaker 1: But there's no big he's fun to watch.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Yeah, he is.
- 37:54Speaker 1: He's the big earned McCracken of college football, dude Hair doing all down there on all fours punching the ground.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Like it's.
- 38:02Speaker 1: It's great, it really is.
- 38:03Speaker 1: But yeah it, I man.
- 38:06Speaker 1: It was even better in that West Virginia game.
- 38:08Speaker 1: His range of emotions from being, you know that angry to that happy it they got.
- 38:14Speaker 1: They got hosed.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Texas shouldn't have even been in a game with them though, like that's, you need to blow Houston out.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Um, that would have been a huge win for Houston in the entire state and the entire you know big 12 persona for them beating big Texas and football.
- 38:32Speaker 2: Mm, hmm.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Uh, yeah, but it big win for Alabama.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it was.
- 38:37Speaker 2: I mean, Tennessee was big in that game, but they, they, they hung tough, they kept, yeah, they hung tough and allowed the the offense to catch up and take over.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Eventually Joe Milton's going to do dumb stuff.
- 38:49Speaker 1: I mean it you know, he's, he panics and he.
- 38:51Speaker 1: He's not a great quarterback.
- 38:53Speaker 1: He can throw it really good and when you know he's got a really nice arm, um, but can't move around, can't throw on the run.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Questionable decision making.
- 39:01Speaker 1: And they did.
- 39:03Speaker 1: They look good Alabama, I mean.
- 39:04Speaker 1: It all comes down to the LSU game for them.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Yeah, lsu's keep, keeps winning.
- 39:11Speaker 2: I mean, they played army, but Jaden Daniels man he yeah, who's going to stop them?
- 39:16Speaker 1: Nobody's nobody's done it since week one, right.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Um, looks good.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Will the pack 12 get an undefeated team?
- 39:23Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 39:24Speaker 2: I don't think so either.
- 39:24Speaker 2: But will the one a one loss pack 12 team make the playoff?
- 39:31Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Really.
- 39:33Speaker 1: No Cause I.
- 39:34Speaker 1: I mean who.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Which one lost team Like I?
- 39:38Speaker 1: Well, there's only going to be one or two.
- 39:40Speaker 2: It could be well, I think, what if Oregon State runs the table?
- 39:43Speaker 2: Then no no, they win.
- 39:45Speaker 2: They be Washington and Oregon and then they be one of those two teams again.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Yeah, but they're going to be like well, who'd you lose to again Washington State?
- 39:52Speaker 1: Exactly you didn't lose to USC with Kailah.
- 39:55Speaker 2: So it has to be Oregon or Washington.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:59Speaker 2: And what if Oregon runs the table?
- 40:02Speaker 1: Oregon runs the table and Oregon getting over an undefeated team.
- 40:07Speaker 1: They're at.
- 40:09Speaker 2: VINs.
- 40:09Speaker 2: They're only lost.
- 40:10Speaker 2: I could see them.
- 40:12Speaker 1: I don't see it happening over an undefeated Well, just the strength of.
- 40:15Speaker 2: I'm just no, no, no, I'm saying a one loss pack.
- 40:17Speaker 2: 12 chant.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:19Speaker 2: They have one loss on the season, so Oregon already has their loss.
- 40:21Speaker 2: That means they went out.
- 40:22Speaker 2: They went out or Washington loses one game and still makes it to the pack 12 championship and beats Oregon.
- 40:29Speaker 1: I think it would be tough because they're already on the outside.
- 40:32Speaker 2: But the strength of that conference.
- 40:34Speaker 1: this year though, yeah, but it's going to keep taking.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Would you put a?
- 40:36Speaker 2: one loss pack 12 champion over a one loss SEC champion.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Right now.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Hmm, it would come down to.
- 40:45Speaker 2: I mean you look at the conference.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Pack 12 is better this year.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Yeah so wouldn't a one loss pack 12 champion deserve it more than say so Oregon.
- 40:53Speaker 2: If Oregon were able to win out in Alabama, wins out.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Who deserves to go?
- 40:58Speaker 1: Who's Alabama's lost to again?
- 40:59Speaker 1: Texas, yeah, all right.
- 41:01Speaker 1: And Oregon's losses to Washington on the road to Washington.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Well, it would come down to who's better out of Washington in Texas.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Who finishes that season?
- 41:08Speaker 1: If Texas finishes the season with one loss and the big 12 champ, then it's going to be Alabama.
- 41:13Speaker 2: What if it's Washington that wins out and they just Oregon and Washington?
- 41:17Speaker 2: Both have one loss.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Who did Washington lose to?
- 41:21Speaker 2: They lost to Oregon and the pack 12 championship.
- 41:23Speaker 2: So you would take Oregon then.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Then you'd have two one loss teams, texas.
- 41:27Speaker 2: What if Texas is the one loss team against a one loss SEC champ?
- 41:31Speaker 2: They're going to go over Alabama because they beat them head to head.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Yeah, they'd go over Alabama.
- 41:36Speaker 1: But if the SEC champ with one loss is in Alabama, you know, say somebody beats Georgia and they still win the SEC.
- 41:43Speaker 2: I think the conference championships going to matter this year for the one loss team that gets in in that four spot.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah For me there's going to be a one loss team.
- 41:50Speaker 2: That doesn't win that doesn't win the conference championship.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Everybody like dude, anybody with title aspirations.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Just don't, don't lose Right, you know like until the playoffs come like, don't you know I mean the scenario that you would have Georgia win out.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Georgia went out.
- 42:09Speaker 2: You would have Michigan went out, oklahoma went out, washington went out, florida State went out.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Yeah, there, I mean that's what they were talking about on the game that Florida State would be left out.
- 42:23Speaker 2: I'm telling you right now that's not happening.
- 42:25Speaker 2: All five, all four, five of those teams are not winning.
- 42:27Speaker 2: Now.
- 42:28Speaker 2: It's just not happening.
- 42:29Speaker 1: No, no, it's not happening.
- 42:30Speaker 1: And it's going to come down to who.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Who do you play in your conference title game?
- 42:35Speaker 1: And it's not going to matter for the big 10, and it's not going to matter for the SEC what it's going to matter for the other three conferences.
- 42:42Speaker 2: You want LSU to keep winning if you're a Florida State fan, because that wins going to look better and better and better.
- 42:48Speaker 1: And you want, you don't want Virginia Tech to win out and go to the.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Acc title game if there's no way all power five conference champions.
- 42:55Speaker 2: That would be a first.
- 42:56Speaker 2: That would be hilarious.
- 42:57Speaker 2: And that in the last year of the four team playoff, all five power fives went undefeated Right, I think, in the scenario right now.
- 43:05Speaker 1: That's a nightmare scenario.
- 43:07Speaker 1: You want honestly I don't want to see that from a national's perspective.
- 43:12Speaker 2: I mean oh my God, it's an, it's a great you want.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Louisville to win out.
- 43:16Speaker 1: If you're the ACC, if you're Florida State, if it came down to you like all five conferences, north Carolina, no, really hurt yeah like any kind of respectable opponent, or the state's not going to have a top ranked opponent.
- 43:27Speaker 1: They don't have from your game.
- 43:29Speaker 1: North Carolina does not have a premiere, so there you have to go undefeated.
- 43:33Speaker 2: You have to go undefeated.
- 43:34Speaker 2: If you're Florida State, yeah To make the playoff.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and if you get that five way tie in terms of one loss.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Conference champions Texas, maybe I mean just because of the opponent they'd have to beat Oklahoma.
- 43:50Speaker 1: They didn't have to.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Like you know, they can't do that Right.
- 43:57Speaker 2: They can read yeah, they rematch against the divisions.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Yeah, oklahoma Texas is going to be if they beat.
- 44:03Speaker 2: If they beat, oklahoma Texas is going to go.
- 44:05Speaker 2: If they went out, I really think they're going to go, because I don't, I don't think.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Unless there's four hundred.
- 44:13Speaker 2: If, if Alabama and Texas went out, one of them is going to miss out, it'll be Alabama.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Well, yeah, they got ahead, ahead, but head ahead.
- 44:20Speaker 2: But in that that scenario like how does the pack 12 going to be compared to a one loss Texas and a one loss Alabama?
- 44:26Speaker 2: That's the question I have.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Is a one loss back 12 champion going to be ranked higher than a one loss Texas or one loss Alabama?
- 44:34Speaker 2: I mean, history says no, but this year, the conference, with the strength that the pack 12 has, I don't know.
- 44:42Speaker 2: That's just the question.
- 44:43Speaker 2: We're getting ahead of ourselves.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to play itself out.
- 44:46Speaker 1: There's not going to be five hundred feet of those two schools, Like I don't think there's anybody in the pack 12 getting a bit over Texas or Alabama.
- 44:53Speaker 1: If Texas beats Oklahoma, if Alabama wins the SEC, like it'll be one of those two teams the pack 12 over over a one loss pack 12.
- 45:04Speaker 2: Yeah, so you think, yeah, back 12 champ can only be Washington.
- 45:08Speaker 1: I do.
- 45:09Speaker 2: I don't think the only way pack 12 has as a as a team in the playoff is Washington.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think the more that the USC loses, that the credibility of the pack 12 is taken a hit.
- 45:19Speaker 1: You know when, when, the time when everybody was talking about the pack 12, you know.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Utah, utah's still only got one loss.
- 45:25Speaker 2: And I tell you what Oregon State still has one loss.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Yeah, but those aren't teams that I know they don't move the needle, I guess.
- 45:30Speaker 2: No, it's all about perception and we'll see how the rankings, how they rank that's really going to be interesting to watch is where they have the pack 12 teams ranked in terms of the one loss, when the loss teams like out of Oregon State, out of out of Oregon.
- 45:46Speaker 1: that's been the SEC's bread and butter for the last 20 years, Right.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Is keeping their teams with one and two losses.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Right, near that High enough in the back end of that top 20.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Right.
- 45:55Speaker 1: To legitimize everything else.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Well, that didn't happen this year because of the they didn't come through in the non-conference schedule.
- 46:02Speaker 1: No, they didn't.
- 46:02Speaker 1: They got the.
- 46:03Speaker 2: you know, parody is so we'll see, I mean you, you got to take it for this season.
- 46:07Speaker 2: So if you're the committee but it's all going to play itself out, I don't.
- 46:11Speaker 2: I mean it could happen, but again I don't see that happening because I think Texas would beat Oklahoma when they play again.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:18Speaker 2: I, but you never know, and then that you, you would have them miss out.
- 46:23Speaker 1: It's hard to beat a team twice man.
- 46:25Speaker 1: It is Especially.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that that's going to be.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Well man, lots going on in the Heisman race, that's wide open.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it is.
- 46:39Speaker 2: I mean, Penix was the clear front front runner.
- 46:42Speaker 2: He's not anymore.
- 46:43Speaker 2: Jj McCarthy is now Right the odds on.
- 46:48Speaker 2: So I mean he's going to have the schedule.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Yeah, because he's the QB.
- 46:50Speaker 1: You know we're not going to give it to the QB for Georgia because he hadn't looked that great.
- 46:54Speaker 1: So who's the next guy?
- 46:55Speaker 2: It's Penix, and then Jaden Daniels, and then Jordan Travis.
- 46:59Speaker 1: I think Jaden Daniels should be number one.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Like just what he's doing, what he's required to do.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you, could I know that that he played poorly in the second half.
- 47:11Speaker 1: I think we just, I think we just took it to LSU Right and but nothing else.
- 47:17Speaker 1: That second half has been his fault in terms of LSU, like the game they lost to Ole Miss.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Dude, he did everything he could.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Florida playing defense.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Right and he's got the number.
- 47:28Speaker 2: They'll have to win out off the beat Alabama and he'll have to put up big numbers at Alabama, kind of like a Johnny Manziel type run to the Heisman, jordan Travis though I know the numbers don't look great, but I thought that was really impressive performance and, in terms of just doing what was necessary to put your team over the top, he did that.
- 47:48Speaker 1: Yeah, winning football.
- 47:49Speaker 2: It was winning football against a really, really, really good defense.
- 47:54Speaker 1: And I mean I'm going to kind of echo what big time Noel says.
- 47:57Speaker 1: I mean like if he just continues to play the way he's been playing and do things like that, he's going to end up in New York.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Oh, he's dead yeah.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Whether or not he wins it, whatever man, but he's going to end up in New York.
- 48:09Speaker 1: You get Florida State undefeated and winning the conference.
- 48:12Speaker 1: It's going to take a performance, like he's been doing, and that's going to get you to New York.
- 48:17Speaker 2: Got to win though.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Yeah, you got to win.
- 48:19Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, though man that drives dude.
- 48:23Speaker 2: It was very impressive.
- 48:24Speaker 1: That entire fourth quarter you didn't see any because that's what we were all year.
- 48:28Speaker 2: We kind of been like hey, take what they give you, take what they give you.
- 48:31Speaker 2: You didn't have a better test of that right there than you did Saturday night with Duke's defense, with the way they play it, and he did that all game long.
- 48:40Speaker 2: He didn't panic, he held his composer and he outlasted Duke and ended up, like I said, with an 18 point win and he threw a pick six.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Yeah, so you know, show that special teams came through.
- 48:53Speaker 2: We got a lot of games to look forward to.
- 48:55Speaker 2: We got NFL to talk about a big week as we move on to the college football season.
- 49:01Speaker 2: Thank you for listening and we'll talk to you next time right here on the North Florida Sports Network.
