Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi everybody. I'm Tamra Judge and I'm Dan Geesling and
- 0:03Speaker 1: you're listening to Talking a Big Game. Hi, guys, welcome
- 0:11Speaker 1: to another episode of Talking a Big Game with myself,
- 0:14Speaker 1: Tamer Judge and Dan Geesling.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Very excited to be here as always, Tamer, I.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Know we're here in the studio at iHeart and.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I'm a little more excited today.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I know you're jumping off your chair. You have a
- 0:26Speaker 1: fellow big brother in the house.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Let's can you you intro? You do such a good
- 0:31Speaker 2: job on the intro.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. Taylor Hale Taylor is a reality TV
- 0:35Speaker 1: personality best known for appearance on the US version of
- 0:38Speaker 1: Big Brother. Taylor Hall's One Big Brother season twenty four,
- 0:42Speaker 1: making history is the first black woman to win a
- 0:45Speaker 1: regular US season on the show. She also won America's
- 0:48Speaker 1: Favorite House Guest, made her the first contestant to win
- 0:52Speaker 1: both prizes.
- 0:53Speaker 2: That doesn't get old, doesn't it. That's like cool, that's
- 0:55Speaker 2: never gonna change like that.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Wow, you always have that scoreboard looks pretty good for me,
- 1:01Speaker 3: very very good.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It was only that, but you were involved in beauty pageants.
- 1:04Speaker 1: You were pround Miss Michigan and USA twenty twenty one
- 1:07Speaker 1: and competed in Miss USA in twenty twenty one. Were
- 1:10Speaker 1: you won Miss Congeniality?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Oh and I'm going to steal this one? Most importantly,
- 1:15Speaker 2: in my opinion, the all time leading is cash winner
- 1:19Speaker 2: in Big Brother with eight hundred thousand dollars hundred thousand.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Dollars, one hundred thousand.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Now, how old were you when you won eight hundred
- 1:27Speaker 1: thousand dollars.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Girl twenty seven? It was only two years ago?
- 1:30Speaker 1: Okay, so can you tell us what you did with
- 1:33Speaker 1: your money?
- 1:34Speaker 3: I spent it all on hooker's and cocaine. Obviously.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Obviously that's like something my son would say. He says
- 1:38Speaker 1: that to me all the time, hookers.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Would I be responsible when I can just blow all
- 1:43Speaker 3: the cash? Now I'm kidding. I paid the taxes number one. Immediately,
- 1:46Speaker 3: I was like, okay, everyone asked me, what are you
- 1:48Speaker 3: gonna do with the money? Talk to me after the taxes.
- 1:50Speaker 3: So paid those taxes, and then I took half of
- 1:52Speaker 3: it and put half in the savings, and the other
- 1:55Speaker 3: half I paid bills I need to pay and what
- 1:57Speaker 3: was rest from that? I was like, okay, this is
- 1:59Speaker 3: my fun fun. So I bought a mustang. I took
- 2:02Speaker 3: my mom on trips.
- 2:04Speaker 1: That's amazing. Like sometimes you hear like reality winners or
- 2:08Speaker 1: even like lottery winners.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Even in Big Brother, Like you can take the list
- 2:11Speaker 2: of Big Brother people be like you know exactly that
- 2:14Speaker 2: they like they.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Waste to blow it all, blow it all, blow it all.
- 2:16Speaker 2: So I'm super excited to have Taylor because I've been
- 2:19Speaker 2: unplugged from the show. But when Taylor won, I'm like
- 2:22Speaker 2: I tuned in because number one, she's from Michigan, but
- 2:25Speaker 2: number two, she went through a lot of adversity in
- 2:27Speaker 2: the house, and it's like like there's always you watch
- 2:30Speaker 2: Big Brother people in adversity, they fold, they fold, they fold,
- 2:33Speaker 2: but you you fought through it all. Wasn't easy. And
- 2:36Speaker 2: then on top of that, you have this iconic speech
- 2:39Speaker 2: and they're really like, not no shade to anyone but
- 2:42Speaker 2: the Big Brother. There hasn't been some big moments in
- 2:45Speaker 2: a while, So for you to come and take that
- 2:47Speaker 2: and do what you did. I always as like a
- 2:49Speaker 2: huge fan of the show. I admired that because like
- 2:51Speaker 2: that's why I watched. I don't watch for people to
- 2:54Speaker 2: build their social media following. I want to see people
- 2:56Speaker 2: like go through stuff, not quit and come out on
- 2:59Speaker 2: the other end. So let me ask you this Taylor
- 3:01Speaker 2: being thrown into the Big Brother house and you had
- 3:04Speaker 2: a lot of adversity, what do you attribute your success
- 3:07Speaker 2: to in that season and how you made it through
- 3:09Speaker 2: on the other end.
- 3:11Speaker 3: There's a handful of things, right, So the why is
- 3:13Speaker 3: the easiest reason. I was like, I'm I have seen
- 3:16Speaker 3: actually lit'sten backtrack a little bit. So I was not
- 3:18Speaker 3: a fan of Big Brother in the conventional sense. I
- 3:21Speaker 3: was not watching every year. I had no real working
- 3:23Speaker 3: knowledge of Big Brother. I'd seen Celebrity the season that
- 3:25Speaker 3: happened just before me, and I watched season twenty three
- 3:28Speaker 3: just because like, sorry, I'm work for black people. I
- 3:30Speaker 3: was popping up on my Twitter feed and I was like, Okay,
- 3:32Speaker 3: the cookout is happening, and they ensured the first black
- 3:34Speaker 3: person to win Big Brother ever, So I went in thinking, Okay, well,
- 3:38Speaker 3: I'm gonna get the first black woman to win this
- 3:40Speaker 3: game because I've seen them just get like dragged and
- 3:43Speaker 3: attacked so many times, and it's really unfair to have
- 3:47Speaker 3: a show that's been on network TV for twenty years
- 3:49Speaker 3: at that time and not have a winner that looks
- 3:51Speaker 3: like me, doesn't make any sense. Then, when I got
- 3:54Speaker 3: into the game and all these things were happening to me,
- 3:56Speaker 3: and I was ostracized and bullied and the whole list
- 3:59Speaker 3: of things you want to say, I realized this game
- 4:02Speaker 3: is going to have an end date, and it's either
- 4:04Speaker 3: going to end with me removing myself or it's going
- 4:07Speaker 3: to end with me standing under a reign of confetti.
- 4:11Speaker 3: It is not my job to tell myself no. It's
- 4:14Speaker 3: literally everybody else's job in that house to tell me no.
- 4:18Speaker 3: But I'm going to be the one person that refuses
- 4:20Speaker 3: to give in to anybody else's pressure. So that end
- 4:22Speaker 3: date was going to come along whether I wanted to
- 4:25Speaker 3: be either or not, and I was going to refuse
- 4:27Speaker 3: to not be there.
- 4:27Speaker 2: But where does that come from? For you to be
- 4:29Speaker 2: able to do that with a bunch of strangers under
- 4:32Speaker 2: the scrutiny of twenty four to seven cameras, knowing there's
- 4:34Speaker 2: a lot of money on the line, Like that's not like, oh,
- 4:37Speaker 2: you bump into someone in the road and it's inconsequential
- 4:40Speaker 2: like this is. There's a lot on the line. So
- 4:42Speaker 2: for you, how were you able to do that in
- 4:44Speaker 2: that moment? Where do you trace that back to.
- 4:46Speaker 3: You know, there's a handful things. I've always kind of
- 4:48Speaker 3: been a resilient person, honestly, going back to my parents'
- 4:51Speaker 3: worse is this therapy right now? Even you know, my
- 4:55Speaker 3: parents got divorced and I was like, how old were
- 4:57Speaker 3: you when they got to middle school?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Okay, so important yet eighth grade?
- 5:01Speaker 3: Yeah, but my mom telling me in the car it
- 5:04Speaker 3: was so dramatic. It was raining. She picked me up
- 5:06Speaker 3: from school and she goes, you know, you know, your
- 5:08Speaker 3: dad's divorcing me, and it was sad. But I remember thinking, well,
- 5:13Speaker 3: that's y'all's problem, not mine. Like your divorce is your relationship.
- 5:17Speaker 3: That doesn't have any real impact on it.
- 5:19Speaker 1: You al had a good head on your shoulders, very secure.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Very secure or just a little bit too detached from
- 5:26Speaker 3: the world, either way you want to look at it.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Nothing get two D. But did you see it coming?
- 5:31Speaker 2: Were you like shocked or do you like, ah, this
- 5:32Speaker 2: marriage isn't like what I think a marriage should be.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Maybe more so that my parents weren't super lovey, dovey
- 5:37Speaker 3: and affectionate, but I also never saw them argue or
- 5:40Speaker 3: fight or be me.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I was the same yea with my parents and they
- 5:44Speaker 1: ended up divorcing when I was like twenty five or
- 5:46Speaker 1: seven or something like that.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Twenty okay, twenty five or twenty seven, Yeah, seven or
- 5:50Speaker 3: twenty five.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I can't twenty five, twenty seven years old. I can't
- 5:53Speaker 1: remember exactly what it was. But yeah, they never fought,
- 5:55Speaker 1: they never argued, they never touched, they never It was
- 5:58Speaker 1: just like, I just that's how it was supposed to be.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm an only child, so all that I
- 6:03Speaker 3: just carried. It's like, all right, that's y'all's business, not mine.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I have my own life to live. So it's like
- 6:08Speaker 3: if anyone has an issue, even in the present day,
- 6:11Speaker 3: if you have a problem with me, that's your problems
- 6:14Speaker 3: one sided. It's not on me. And I'll keep it
- 6:16Speaker 3: pushing until I get what I need to get.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah, to quote my good friend and your friend as well,
- 6:20Speaker 1: Candice Dillard, not today, Satan.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Not today, say not today.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Same so you So you said, that's like the first
- 6:28Speaker 2: time where you kind of like if you could get
- 6:30Speaker 2: through that Big brother was easy or like, how would
- 6:33Speaker 2: you draw from that to get through Big Brother? Oh?
- 6:36Speaker 3: I mean, pageants definitely play a part in that as well.
- 6:39Speaker 3: There's we're all reality TV personalities, media personalities. When you
- 6:44Speaker 3: are in the pageant world as what I call a
- 6:46Speaker 3: triple z list celebrity, a mag a quadruple z list celebrity,
- 6:49Speaker 3: there are literal message boards dedicated to tearing down your looks,
- 6:54Speaker 3: your weight, how you walk, how you talk, how you'll
- 6:56Speaker 3: compete at Miss you say, if you have a shot
- 6:57Speaker 3: at winning and going to Miss Universe. And it gets
- 7:00Speaker 3: even worse when you're a real contender to compete at
- 7:02Speaker 3: the national international scale. So when you are Susy Jane
- 7:07Speaker 3: Joe from Minnesota and you win a state crown, and
- 7:11Speaker 3: you get two thousand followers, and you have more eyes
- 7:13Speaker 3: on you than the average girl in your state, and
- 7:16Speaker 3: you have people just tearing you down every single day
- 7:19Speaker 3: and literally pitting you against fifty other of the most
- 7:22Speaker 3: beautiful women in the country, you either learn how to
- 7:25Speaker 3: have a thick skin or you crack crack, and my
- 7:29Speaker 3: skin just got thicker because of course I had racism.
- 7:32Speaker 3: I was the first dark skinned woman to win Miss
- 7:34Speaker 3: Michigan USA in like fifteen years at that point, So
- 7:36Speaker 3: you know, the racism will come out, the trolls will
- 7:38Speaker 3: come out, people will tell you don't deserve what you
- 7:40Speaker 3: literally earned from a team of middle aged people. But
- 7:44Speaker 3: who am I to say anything like this is something
- 7:46Speaker 3: that I earned, fought for and trained for, and I'm
- 7:49Speaker 3: not gonna let other people rip away what I want
- 7:51Speaker 3: from me.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And that's that's like the feeling because I just I
- 7:55Speaker 2: watched the finale, but I'm watching you walk out. I'm like,
- 7:58Speaker 2: she do didn't give it an f like it was
- 7:59Speaker 2: just like all these people hated her and then they
- 8:02Speaker 2: just gave her the game because of the speech, and like,
- 8:04Speaker 2: you fought your tail off and she didn't like you
- 8:06Speaker 2: could care. I felt like you couldn't even be bothered.
- 8:08Speaker 1: It was just like, wait, tell me about this speech.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Hear this speech?
- 8:14Speaker 2: She like so typically, I mean, it's a speech you give.
- 8:17Speaker 2: It's you against me against you, and everyone's watching Traders when.
- 8:21Speaker 1: We're around and we're you know, you're on the chop.
- 8:23Speaker 3: You have to give a speech too soon, You have
- 8:27Speaker 3: to keep gave a speech.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Well, we'll talk about that.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Convince all these people that you just like voted out,
- 8:33Speaker 2: shoved them out of the game. You got to convince
- 8:35Speaker 2: them to give you the game. And she came in
- 8:37Speaker 2: and it was like it was kind of like you've
- 8:39Speaker 2: never seen like pageant delivery. But it was like well
- 8:42Speaker 2: thought out and there were no cracks in what you're saying.
- 8:45Speaker 2: I'm like, you're not damn you know, and like and
- 8:49Speaker 2: this is kind of the reality we live in. I
- 8:51Speaker 2: don't know who you beat. I don't remember second, like
- 8:53Speaker 2: you just you don't remember that. And I think that's
- 8:55Speaker 2: the mark of like someone who put their mark on
- 8:57Speaker 2: the show. And and you know, so coming from that
- 9:02Speaker 2: and now okay, which I didn't know you were in California,
- 9:05Speaker 2: Like I texted, You're like, hey, are we call them?
- 9:06Speaker 2: You're like, yeah, I can come by the studio. I'm like,
- 9:08Speaker 2: it's awesome. So you've won the show and then you decompress,
- 9:12Speaker 2: which is a whole nother thing, like you know, getting
- 9:15Speaker 2: your phone back everything.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I can't imagine what.
- 9:19Speaker 2: What was the most shocking to you after you had
- 9:21Speaker 2: the success of winning the show, like when you got out.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Probably the reach that The Big Brother twenty four had
- 9:29Speaker 3: on a lot of people. Like I said, I had
- 9:32Speaker 3: a very surface level knowledge of the game. I only
- 9:34Speaker 3: started watching old episodes because I was being recruited to
- 9:37Speaker 3: go on the show. So I was like, all right,
- 9:38Speaker 3: let me binge watch this and see what I'm getting into.
- 9:40Speaker 3: But outside of that, I didn't know the game, and
- 9:43Speaker 3: as a regular person, Big Brother is not something that
- 9:46Speaker 3: penetrates the general public often unless there's like a racism
- 9:50Speaker 3: TMZ article coming out genuinely. So, when I got out
- 9:54Speaker 3: of the house, I got my phone back, I have
- 9:56Speaker 3: X amount of followers, and I have little adoration in
- 10:00Speaker 3: ways that I just didn't expect what happened, because you
- 10:02Speaker 3: don't know what the world thinks about you when you're
- 10:04Speaker 3: feeling quick on Twitter, Yeah, whatever it's called right now,
- 10:07Speaker 3: I just call it twitter. His mom ated Twitter. I'm
- 10:10Speaker 3: gon call it twitter me too. So I think once
- 10:13Speaker 3: I saw Time Magazine wrote an article, when I saw
- 10:18Speaker 3: a Rolling Stone bard An article, that's when I was like, Okay,
- 10:21Speaker 3: there's a real cultural that's not that's not typical Big Brother,
- 10:25Speaker 3: that's not typical reality TV, honestly, and so when I
- 10:28Speaker 3: was like, Okay, there's something really important that happened here
- 10:32Speaker 3: that other people were able to learn from, grow from,
- 10:34Speaker 3: capitalize on, that's when I felt like, Okay, the impact
- 10:37Speaker 3: is more than just the silly thing I did over
- 10:39Speaker 3: the summer. It's it's beyond what I could have expected. So,
- 10:43Speaker 3: you know, then you get into how do people see
- 10:46Speaker 3: me as a human or an impenetrable role model that
- 10:49Speaker 3: you put me on a pedestal. When you are that
- 10:52Speaker 3: high on a pedestal, you have so much farther to
- 10:54Speaker 3: fall and leading up or trying to be that expectation
- 10:59Speaker 3: so often, because my when mint a lot of stuff
- 11:02Speaker 3: for a lot of different people, it's really really scared
- 11:05Speaker 3: not to follow that trip of oh my god, am
- 11:08Speaker 3: I letting people down by not always being perfect all
- 11:10Speaker 3: the time? But you know, I think that's the beauty
- 11:12Speaker 3: a big Brother. You just try to you don't even try.
- 11:15Speaker 3: You are forced to peel back at all the layers.
- 11:18Speaker 3: People see you at your most vulnerable, literally half naked
- 11:21Speaker 3: walking into the bathroom. So like, you just kind of
- 11:24Speaker 3: hope that people will continue to follow and understand you
- 11:26Speaker 3: as a whole human being and not just a character
- 11:28Speaker 3: on TV show.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Now, what was harder, Big Brother or Pageants?
- 11:42Speaker 3: Probably Big Brother at least you're cut off from the world. No,
- 11:46Speaker 3: it was definitely harder Pageants. Like you have your support system,
- 11:50Speaker 3: it's a one time thing. The competition happens one time.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Big Brother, You're just kind of flailing a log.
- 11:55Speaker 1: When were you in the Big Brother House?
- 11:57Speaker 3: My game was eighty two days? Oh, help me told
- 12:01Speaker 3: you about sequester? No, oh, we were sequestered for My
- 12:04Speaker 3: sequester was twelve days before the game.
- 12:06Speaker 2: So what you did before Traders?
- 12:07Speaker 1: That sequesters and yeah, and I was ready to jump
- 12:12Speaker 1: out of my skin twelve days.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:14Speaker 1: What kind of room are you actually in?
- 12:15Speaker 3: What kind of rooms?
- 12:16Speaker 1: Is it just a hotel?
- 12:17Speaker 3: A hotel room by an airport? Yeah?
- 12:20Speaker 1: Okay, so that.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Time is long.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Yeah, Teddy had to.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Do that as well when she did Big Brother and
- 12:26Speaker 1: I feel like.
- 12:28Speaker 3: It was the exact same hotel, probably like a week.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Maybe I think she said she had to do that,
- 12:33Speaker 1: but I'm like, oh my god, No, I thought it
- 12:35Speaker 1: was just because of COVID, Like they wanted to make
- 12:37Speaker 1: sure you didn't have COVID, so they you know, kept
- 12:40Speaker 1: you in a room for a week and tested you.
- 12:42Speaker 3: I didn't know.
- 12:42Speaker 1: It was like, why did they do that?
- 12:44Speaker 3: That's an additional thing? So the real reason was your mind?
- 12:47Speaker 3: Well yeah, basically, but honestly, the whole premise of Big
- 12:50Speaker 3: Brothers that you don't know anybody else going into the house,
- 12:53Speaker 3: so you're cut off from the world and as people
- 12:56Speaker 3: start getting what we call kidnapped. They literally call it kidnapping.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Like there was a tex next that I wasn't supposed
- 13:01Speaker 3: to see that popped up on an Apple car play
- 13:03Speaker 3: while we were driving to the destination. I said, BB
- 13:05Speaker 3: twenty four kidnapping. I was like, I'm going, I made it.
- 13:10Speaker 2: You're educating Tamran like big brother because she has like
- 13:13Speaker 2: the bird's eye view, but you're getting.
- 13:15Speaker 3: You gotta know the fun behind the scenes things. So, yeah,
- 13:18Speaker 3: my kidnapping happened. And everybody gets kidnapped kind of in
- 13:22Speaker 3: different waves, so as you get cut off. The whole
- 13:25Speaker 3: point is that you don't want people being leaked on
- 13:27Speaker 3: Twitter or online and seeing what else is going on.
- 13:29Speaker 1: So the Traders you get murdered.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Yeah, but you had. We're not talking about it, but
- 13:36Speaker 2: I would recommend doing it.
- 13:37Speaker 3: So would you consider doing Traders in a heartbeat? I
- 13:40Speaker 3: would love to. I would have loved to do the
- 13:42Speaker 3: season that just happened, But I am.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Did I hear that possibly they were talking to you about.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Doing I mean I think it's just a I mean
- 13:49Speaker 2: you're shoeing.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the call happened, and I would have
- 13:53Speaker 3: loved to, but I'm still under my contract with with
- 13:55Speaker 3: CBS PARAMOUNTLA.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I think that happened to quite a few people.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Does that end because two years like this some years
- 14:01Speaker 3: two years, two years September twenty fifth, twenty twenty four.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Ass for two years.
- 14:06Speaker 2: You try to reach out to CBS and be like.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Hey, can you know how many times?
- 14:10Speaker 2: Nothing?
- 14:10Speaker 3: I mean, you know, I understand it. It's a contract.
- 14:13Speaker 3: I've signed contracts before. But I'm just saying, if you
- 14:15Speaker 3: want to use me, use me. Yeah, you want to
- 14:17Speaker 3: be the contract.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I mean you know what if they use you, they're
- 14:19Speaker 1: going to put another year on you.
- 14:21Speaker 2: They brought her back in for the Christmas Reindeers game.
- 14:25Speaker 3: That Christmas contract ended three months after, but my twenty
- 14:30Speaker 3: four contract was still is still going.
- 14:32Speaker 2: I can't see that ours was a year. I don't
- 14:34Speaker 2: And that's that's my thing with CBS is like you
- 14:37Speaker 2: build a Taylor Hill, like you got her, go go
- 14:40Speaker 2: use her, go use that and instead of like now
- 14:42Speaker 2: you're on a shelf and then you can't do anything else.
- 14:45Speaker 2: That's my only issue. Sorry, CBS is like that's fine,
- 14:48Speaker 2: then go like Peak is going to take you and Peacock.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Is going to be clearly a start and people are
- 14:53Speaker 1: in line waiting to nab ask.
- 14:55Speaker 2: So you get off Big Brother and like, there's a
- 14:57Speaker 2: there's a transition period, right, So you went from like, Okay,
- 15:00Speaker 2: you're known in the pageant community. Now, hey, this big
- 15:02Speaker 2: thing happened. How have you been able to process? Okay,
- 15:06Speaker 2: like you were you said you were like triple zalist,
- 15:09Speaker 2: so wherever you are now, but like you're not double Zealas,
- 15:11Speaker 2: how do you keep that in perspective? And like, now
- 15:13Speaker 2: what do you want to do with it?
- 15:15Speaker 3: Oh, I'm a realist to the core. So like, look,
- 15:18Speaker 3: I'm not Ah, I'm not Zundeya, I'm not Angela Jolie,
- 15:22Speaker 3: I'm not an a less celebrity. I am a. I've
- 15:24Speaker 3: elevated to a double Zealiss celebrity now okay, and it's
- 15:26Speaker 3: fun and it's exciting, cool stuff to do, really cool stuff.
- 15:30Speaker 3: I got the house, and Ley sent me to the
- 15:32Speaker 3: Super Bowl. I got to go to Greece on a
- 15:35Speaker 3: ship called the Resilient Lady. Resiliency was the theme of
- 15:37Speaker 3: my final speech. So there was some really awesome things
- 15:40Speaker 3: that came from this eighty two day period. But now
- 15:44Speaker 3: I get to pivot into doing entertainment news. I'm doing
- 15:47Speaker 3: exit interviews for Big Brother for Entertainment tonight, which is like, oh, congratulations,
- 15:52Speaker 3: And it's just a dream. It's an absolute dream.
- 15:54Speaker 1: What's next for you? Is there something? Is there a
- 15:56Speaker 1: goal that you have?
- 15:57Speaker 3: I want to be the go to person for entertainment news.
- 16:00Speaker 3: That's when my lifelong dream. When I was in high school,
- 16:03Speaker 3: people ask me what I wanted to do, and I
- 16:05Speaker 3: was like, I'm going to go to d C. And
- 16:06Speaker 3: I'm going to be a correspondent.
- 16:09Speaker 1: To the boys. Right now, everything I see that happening.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I was a big political junkie. I'm like, oh my god,
- 16:18Speaker 3: this election cycle. I'm just so tuned in right now too.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Did you go to college for that?
- 16:23Speaker 3: I went to college to study journalism, but George Washington
- 16:27Speaker 3: in DC, So that's where the politically minded aspect comes in.
- 16:31Speaker 2: But I told a very difficult school to get into, but.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Great, and that's why they targeted me. But I jumped
- 16:42Speaker 3: around within that school, all the different schools at g W.
- 16:45Speaker 3: And I remember my academic advisor said, too, if you
- 16:47Speaker 3: want to graduate on time, you have one major to
- 16:49Speaker 3: choose from, which was organizational sciences, which sounds made up,
- 16:54Speaker 3: but it's I don't even know what is that sounds
- 16:57Speaker 3: like a lie, like a BS major, but it's essentially
- 16:59Speaker 3: business like which worked in the house.
- 17:02Speaker 2: So you've recently moved to LA Is that what made
- 17:05Speaker 2: what sparked that move for you? And how has it been?
- 17:08Speaker 3: There's gonna be a star, dance may be a star.
- 17:11Speaker 3: There's no entertainment newswork in Michigan. And I love Michigan.
- 17:14Speaker 3: I would like to buy a house in Michigan, but
- 17:16Speaker 3: for me to actually be available to pick up last
- 17:19Speaker 3: when it calls like this and show off.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Did you ever think about moving to New York?
- 17:24Speaker 3: No. I interned when I was in New York for
- 17:28Speaker 3: Essence magazine when I was in college, and I get it.
- 17:31Speaker 3: The area I was in was near Times Square. Who
- 17:34Speaker 3: wants to live near Times Square? Day Exactly?
- 17:36Speaker 1: I don't even want to walk through Times Square. No,
- 17:38Speaker 1: I have to in a couple of weeks because I'm
- 17:40Speaker 1: taking my son and his girlfriend to New York and
- 17:42Speaker 1: she's never been, so I'm like.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Just make sure you get like the on brand sponge job,
- 17:48Speaker 3: not the off brand with the eye. Now you know
- 17:50Speaker 3: those things are scary. I did think about New York scary.
- 17:54Speaker 3: It's terrifying. But hey, you know what, y'all love New York.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Y'all love New York. I know you love New York.
- 17:59Speaker 3: But living there was like living in dog years to me.
- 18:02Speaker 3: And I never ever thought that I'd be an LA girl.
- 18:04Speaker 3: But when I got off the show, my friend Toddrick,
- 18:07Speaker 3: he opened up his home and I got to be
- 18:09Speaker 3: in his master bedroom for like this beautiful ten million
- 18:13Speaker 3: dollar mansion for like a month and a half just decompressing.
- 18:17Speaker 2: It was real nice.
- 18:18Speaker 3: He gave me the carration. No literally, I was like,
- 18:22Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe I do like LA.
- 18:24Speaker 2: So can I ask you that?
- 18:25Speaker 3: So?
- 18:26Speaker 2: Like did you feel like how did you meet this guy?
- 18:29Speaker 2: Was there any like what's going on? Like you as
- 18:31Speaker 2: a father, I'm like, okay, my daughter is staying in
- 18:34Speaker 2: a ten million dollar mansion and just got keys of
- 18:37Speaker 2: the car, Like like what's the cat? I mean, like,
- 18:41Speaker 2: how did what happened? Because I'm from Michigan, I'm staying
- 18:45Speaker 2: in Michigan. But that didn't shock you. You're like, oh, yeah,
- 18:47Speaker 2: that probably happens, but what is the story with that?
- 18:50Speaker 3: I had the same mindset as you, right because the
- 18:52Speaker 3: season before me, season twenty four six, people from the season.
- 18:55Speaker 3: They all stayed at his house also, and so I think,
- 18:58Speaker 3: what you have an established.
- 19:01Speaker 2: But like why, like what what is Is he just
- 19:03Speaker 2: a big fan or something massive fan.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Of Big Brother? And he was on Celebrity Big Brother
- 19:07Speaker 3: at the season right before mine, so he's in the community.
- 19:10Speaker 3: He's a big fan of it. And then when you.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I think he was on with Teddy was gonna Yeah.
- 19:18Speaker 3: It was two years ago now, two years ago.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Yeah, Teddy was on that exactly.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Yeah, he was final yep, I have heard ye the bed.
- 19:29Speaker 2: A different Big Brother.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Only celebrities can do that always any bed, anytime ever.
- 19:36Speaker 2: That's good to know. So it was kind of like
- 19:46Speaker 2: he was pre screened and you're like yeah. For me,
- 19:49Speaker 2: I was like, okay, did you feel like you owed
- 19:50Speaker 2: him anything?
- 19:52Speaker 3: You know?
- 19:52Speaker 2: I not in that way, but I'm just saying like
- 19:54Speaker 2: he's gay, so.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Very gay. No, and the is like, I owe you friendship.
- 20:01Speaker 3: But it never felt like a tit for tat. You
- 20:03Speaker 3: gave me your room, so I owe you my friendship.
- 20:05Speaker 3: It's just like general gratitude. Just a very very kind
- 20:08Speaker 3: person and you never know what do you expect from people,
- 20:11Speaker 3: but when you have the vetting from people that you
- 20:14Speaker 3: respect on the season before you and then you have
- 20:17Speaker 3: your own experience. It's like, okay, I can check Frock
- 20:19Speaker 3: with this. He had this giant finale night party. It's
- 20:24Speaker 3: happened the past three years in a row, I'd say. So,
- 20:27Speaker 3: I snuck out of my hotel room on finale night.
- 20:29Speaker 3: I wasn't supposed to be out, but my best security
- 20:33Speaker 3: at your door. They didn't have security at my door,
- 20:34Speaker 3: but they did have my room key. Okay, so I
- 20:36Speaker 3: couldn't tap in rount if I wanted to.
- 20:38Speaker 2: But what I did.
- 20:39Speaker 3: I called my best friend who was in town. She
- 20:41Speaker 3: came to my room and I took like the little
- 20:43Speaker 3: card stock that they have on the desk next to
- 20:46Speaker 3: your bed, slid it in the door. So I went
- 20:48Speaker 3: in lock and we got to Uber and went over
- 20:50Speaker 3: to the party crafty and that's what. Yeah, I did
- 20:53Speaker 3: not sleep that night. We went straight from the party
- 20:55Speaker 3: till six am, and I was back at the CBS
- 20:57Speaker 3: a lot to do the talk, same hair and makeup.
- 21:00Speaker 2: What do you do you have any like photos in
- 21:03Speaker 2: your head from winning? Like is there? Like can you
- 21:06Speaker 2: close your eyes and be like all right, I'll remember
- 21:08Speaker 2: this when I'm on my deathbed.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, yeah, there's you know how this feels when
- 21:16Speaker 4: you're sitting in those final two seats and I was
- 21:19Speaker 4: holding hands with the person and I was sitting final too.
- 21:21Speaker 2: It was it Sorry, sorry, no, that's okay.
- 21:23Speaker 3: It was Manty and he played a great game. It
- 21:25Speaker 3: was really just a battle of will the social game
- 21:28Speaker 3: win or will like your classic competition wins win. And
- 21:32Speaker 3: so that's what the speech was. I mad an argument
- 21:34Speaker 3: that social game will always triumph competition wins. And so
- 21:38Speaker 3: we're sitting there and I remember after everyone voted, when
- 21:42Speaker 3: people put their keys and they'll say something kind of
- 21:44Speaker 3: witty to have their moment, and the majority of the
- 21:46Speaker 3: people said something that felt like a nod to me.
- 21:50Speaker 3: We're holding hands and Julie says, oh, we're going to
- 21:52Speaker 3: go to commercial or whatever. And as they're playing the
- 21:55Speaker 3: music and going to commercial and counting us out, and
- 21:58Speaker 3: remember Manti going, I think you might have this one
- 22:01Speaker 3: mind you. Monty won the power to decide who would
- 22:04Speaker 3: sit next to him in final two. If he chose
- 22:07Speaker 3: the other person, he would have won, he would and
- 22:09Speaker 3: he chose me because of my social game. Yeah, so
- 22:12Speaker 3: I just remember like seeing Julie, what a standard that
- 22:16Speaker 3: final thing.
- 22:17Speaker 2: You say that idiot, I don't know who he is?
- 22:21Speaker 2: Like gamer, I know, I mean, what's fifty on the line.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I don't wait to talk about your exit, talk.
- 22:29Speaker 3: To do the fun Monty. You know, I pumped his
- 22:32Speaker 3: brain with the idea that if he took me to
- 22:34Speaker 3: final two with him, it was an easy win. So
- 22:36Speaker 3: he didn't think he was being an idiot. He thought
- 22:37Speaker 3: he was making the right choice.
- 22:39Speaker 2: But to me, I like, I like, that's a threat.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Like if someone's pumping me, I'm like such.
- 22:43Speaker 1: A gamer, it's such a gamer.
- 22:45Speaker 2: I feel like it's finishing. We brought on a lot
- 22:48Speaker 2: of winners who are kind of say, like at the
- 22:51Speaker 2: back and like they've been doing it for ten fifteen
- 22:53Speaker 2: years and here you are, you're kind of like at
- 22:55Speaker 2: the start. So so you move out to LA, Like
- 22:58Speaker 2: what how do you start to map things out? And
- 23:01Speaker 2: like are you saying yes everything or how do you
- 23:03Speaker 2: navigate to where you want to be?
- 23:05Speaker 3: So let's have a real talk about the industry. Entertainment
- 23:08Speaker 3: news is a dying industry right now. Paramount MTV, CBS,
- 23:13Speaker 3: they have basically entirely gout entertainment tonight, even they've essentially
- 23:16Speaker 3: gutted their spaces of entertainment news journalists. So the work
- 23:20Speaker 3: that I want to do on camera hosting in the
- 23:22Speaker 3: traditional sense of I'm Taylor Hale and this is entertainment tonight.
- 23:26Speaker 3: It's not only very hard to get into, there is
- 23:29Speaker 3: no path to get into that. And that's for so
- 23:31Speaker 3: many different jobs in the industry. Producers are having a
- 23:34Speaker 3: hard time getting promoted into new positions. That's why the
- 23:37Speaker 3: strikes happened, and there's not a lot of mobility happening
- 23:39Speaker 3: to this day. So now, after spending a year and
- 23:44Speaker 3: a half trying it to the traditional way because that's
- 23:46Speaker 3: what I was bred to do being in DC studying journalism,
- 23:50Speaker 3: pivoting all these things, now I have to pivot into
- 23:53Speaker 3: social media in a way that I didn't expect to.
- 23:55Speaker 3: And that's okay. I just know that personally, I don't
- 23:58Speaker 3: want to be your typical influencer and here's the brand
- 24:02Speaker 3: deal and here's what I'm doing, and get ready with
- 24:04Speaker 3: me the type of thing. It's just not my personality.
- 24:07Speaker 3: And I think that's okay. I love all my friends
- 24:09Speaker 3: that are like massive, mega influencers like that.
- 24:11Speaker 1: You'll get to a point where you know you can
- 24:13Speaker 1: pick and choose.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Exactly do this or if you don't want to do that, yeah.
- 24:17Speaker 1: It's always some great money on the side.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Exactly, so I'll take the deal. And it's not a career.
- 24:24Speaker 2: You don't want to do that? What do you want it?
- 24:26Speaker 2: What does it look like to you?
- 24:27Speaker 3: So now the industry looks like you got to pick
- 24:30Speaker 3: up your camera and just talk directly to the people
- 24:32Speaker 3: about what's happening in entertainment. So instead of calling up
- 24:35Speaker 3: the traditional agencies and saying, hey, can I extra entertainment tonight?
- 24:39Speaker 3: All these different spaces, there's no mobility there. The most
- 24:42Speaker 3: mobility is picking up your own camera and saying, Okay,
- 24:44Speaker 3: here's the headline going on here, my thoughts and feelings
- 24:47Speaker 3: on it, and asking people how they feel and to interact.
- 24:50Speaker 3: I just posted something about a brother and how.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Very podcast spot underneath her network here because I feel
- 25:02Speaker 1: like she could.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Kill it, Like you got it, you gotta figure it out.
- 25:06Speaker 2: So as we wrap things here, So when you look
- 25:09Speaker 2: back at everything, and I guess, moving forward, how will
- 25:12Speaker 2: you define success now? So you've won this massive show,
- 25:16Speaker 2: You've done a great job like building your audience and
- 25:20Speaker 2: taking the next step, what is success going to look
- 25:22Speaker 2: like to you, if you could be like Dan ten
- 25:24Speaker 2: years from now, this is what I want to have happen.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Here's what it looks like.
- 25:27Speaker 3: I love this, And ten years i'll be thirty nine
- 25:31Speaker 3: years old. Okay, that puts some things into perspective. So
- 25:34Speaker 3: for me, success is going to look like the freedom
- 25:37Speaker 3: to dictate my career on my own terms. And I'm
- 25:40Speaker 3: sure both of you relate to this. When you're a
- 25:42Speaker 3: public figure, a lot of people think that they can
- 25:44Speaker 3: tell you what your next move is going to be.
- 25:46Speaker 3: You need to befriend these people, you need to work
- 25:49Speaker 3: at this place, do it this way. When you are
- 25:51Speaker 3: fresh on the scene, a lot of times you feel
- 25:53Speaker 3: like you have to answer to that. For me, it's
- 25:55Speaker 3: going to be having my own following and my own
- 25:58Speaker 3: unique perspective on the entertainment space. Owning a house, which
- 26:03Speaker 3: I could do right now, but I'm trying to be
- 26:04Speaker 3: conservative with the market. Wait, yeah, I'm trying to wait,
- 26:08Speaker 3: trying to wigh it out. And also i want to
- 26:10Speaker 3: be able to take care of my parents. I'm an
- 26:11Speaker 3: only child. I only have one living grandparent. My mom
- 26:14Speaker 3: and dad are the only like living immediate family that
- 26:16Speaker 3: I have. No first cousins or anything like that. So
- 26:19Speaker 3: more than just hey Dad, I got you a new
- 26:21Speaker 3: golf club or hey mom, like let me help out
- 26:24Speaker 3: with some things here. I want to maybe have like
- 26:25Speaker 3: a wing in the house where either of them could be.
- 26:28Speaker 3: They can only be one. They can't they can't both
- 26:30Speaker 3: be there.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Taylor, I have to say, you know, like I've met
- 26:33Speaker 2: a lot of Big Brother winners and stuff like that,
- 26:36Speaker 2: but I mean, I'm just gonna be honest, I'm blown away.
- 26:38Speaker 2: I think you've got it figured out. I think the
- 26:40Speaker 2: big such a young age, I'm taking very like self
- 26:44Speaker 2: aware and humble, because that's what do you say that again?
- 26:47Speaker 3: So the people know because they say that I'm cocky
- 26:50Speaker 3: and I'm not.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Let some people think if you have an opinion, you're cocky.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Well I say to that, like, I'm sorry you don't
- 26:58Speaker 1: have opinion because that's my opinion exactly.
- 27:01Speaker 2: But I'll see people come off a reality show and
- 27:02Speaker 2: like I'm just cringe and it's like it's you want
- 27:05Speaker 2: to show that's like this big and so that's cool,
- 27:08Speaker 2: but you're not whoever you think you are. And I
- 27:11Speaker 2: just I like, I'm just like very I mean, I'm
- 27:13Speaker 2: super impressed. Not that you need to impress me. I'm like, like,
- 27:17Speaker 2: I think I think that's pretty cool. I think we're
- 27:20Speaker 2: gonna sit here and be like like when this is
- 27:21Speaker 2: over and be like everything she said life can I can?
- 27:25Speaker 2: I get like an ESPN bet will Taylor Hell be
- 27:28Speaker 2: a X Y and Z Yep. I'm going all in.
- 27:30Speaker 3: I'll let you know if that parlay hits ten years.
- 27:33Speaker 2: But thank you so much for coming on. It was appreciated.
- 27:36Speaker 1: A drove out here in a split second speed races.
- 27:40Speaker 3: I'm getting to reality to be Titans. I gotta get there. God.
- 27:44Speaker 3: I dropped off my little puppy to get groomed and
- 27:46Speaker 3: I was like scared. Thank you so much.
- 27:49Speaker 1: You're amazing.
- 27:50Speaker 3: You'll are the best. See you on Traders Returner Season
