- 1:38It's series five, show 31.
- 1:40Master your choices before they master you.
- 1:43Let me say that again.
- 1:44Master your choices before they master you.
- 1:49And today's granular is how to stop overthinking.
- 1:51Series five, show 31.
- 1:54Okay.
- 1:55And yes, today is going to be episode
- 2:03number five.
- 2:05Welcome, everyone, to Inspirations for Your Life.
- 2:08I am your host, yes, John C.
- 2:11Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 2:16podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, passionate
- 2:20lifelong learner at Montclair State University, and so
- 2:24grateful now to be a published author.
- 2:28Welcome.
- 2:30Friends, have you ever spent so much time
- 2:32thinking about a decision that you never actually
- 2:34made one?
- 2:35We've all done that.
- 2:36Well, should I make the decision or should
- 2:38I wait or should I make a change,
- 2:40right?
- 2:40I think that could be a thing for
- 2:42a lot of people to think about, like,
- 2:44do they want to do that?
- 2:45Do they not want to do that?
- 2:46I think that's a very, very important thing
- 2:49to understand what's going on and why something's
- 2:54going on.
- 2:55Because I think a lot of people out
- 2:56there, I think they get a little bit
- 3:01tongue-tied and they keep making changes.
- 3:06And they make these changes because they think
- 3:09it's going to help them.
- 3:11But you know, the problem is that they
- 3:14don't really make the changes, okay?
- 3:18They don't make the changes.
- 3:19They basically procrastinate for a very, very long
- 3:24time.
- 3:24And I think that's a hard thing for
- 3:27a lot of people to realize, is that
- 3:30whole concept.
- 3:35And I think that's important.
- 3:41But it's hard for some people, right?
- 3:54And I think a lot of people don't
- 3:56know what's happening or why things are happening,
- 4:00right?
- 4:01And I think that can be a challenge
- 4:03for some people because they don't realize that
- 4:04they can make the change.
- 4:06The change is literally right at their fingertips.
- 4:08It's right at their fingertips.
- 4:09So overthinking, ladies and gentlemen, often disguised itself
- 4:13as preparation.
- 4:14But in reality, it can steal the joy
- 4:17of opportunities, delay progress, and create unnecessary stress.
- 4:21Today, I'm going to explore 30 practical principles
- 4:24that will help you think with purpose, take
- 4:27action with confidence, and stop allowing hesitation to
- 4:31control your future.
- 4:34You heard me right.
- 4:35Number one, action beats hesitation.
- 4:37So take action.
- 4:39Thinking has value, but action creates real results.
- 4:42Progress begins the moment you take the first
- 4:44step, okay?
- 4:46Number two, don't chase certainty.
- 4:49You rarely have every answer before making a
- 4:51decision.
- 4:52Learn to move forward with confidence.
- 4:54And I think sometimes people, for whatever reason,
- 4:58they just get into this loop.
- 5:01And I think that's a very hard thing
- 5:05for a lot of people to realize, the
- 5:08loop, the loop of life, the loop of
- 5:10what's going on, and the loop of what's
- 5:12really going on for them in their whole
- 5:14world.
- 5:15And I think sometimes when we think about
- 5:17this, we get stuck ourselves.
- 5:20So this is really important, guys, understanding this.
- 5:25And today, we're really digging into how to
- 5:27choose courage over comfort.
- 5:29And so when we think about courage, right,
- 5:32I think that's a very important thing to
- 5:34realize, courage over comfort.
- 5:37A lot of us want to be comfortable,
- 5:39and we don't understand what's going on, but
- 5:43we just know that comfort seems easier than
- 5:45other things, right?
- 5:46So these are things I think we have
- 5:48to understand.
- 5:49Every one of us has a choice to
- 5:51make.
- 5:51We can stay where it's comfortable, predictable, and
- 5:54familiar, or we can step into the unknown
- 5:56where growth actually happens.
- 5:58Courage doesn't mean you're fearless.
- 6:00Let me get that straight with you.
- 6:02It means you decide that your future is
- 6:04more important than your fear.
- 6:06Today, knowing this and these principles that I'm
- 6:10sharing with you, it'll give us the ability
- 6:12to be capable of everything along.
- 6:15Number one, growth begins with courage, okay?
- 6:18Every meaningful achievement starts with you're willing to
- 6:22take the first step, the first uncomfortable step.
- 6:25Comfort limits progress, guys.
- 6:26Staying comfortable may feel safe, but it rarely
- 6:29helps you discover your full potential.
- 6:32Number three, face difficult conversations.
- 6:35Honest conversations often strengthen relationships and resolve problems
- 6:38before they grow.
- 6:41Number four, calculated risks.
- 6:43Not every risk is reckless.
- 6:46Smart risks often lead to your greatest opportunities.
- 6:50Number five, believe in yourself.
- 6:53Your confidence begins with trusting that you're capable
- 6:56of learning and succeeding.
- 6:58Number six, learn from failure.
- 7:01Failure isn't the end.
- 7:03It's valuable feedback that prepares you for future
- 7:05successes.
- 7:07Number seven, courage builds confidence.
- 7:09Every courageous action reminds us that we're stronger
- 7:14than our fears.
- 7:15What are our fears?
- 7:16False evidence appearing real, but they can sometimes
- 7:19get in our way.
- 7:21Number eight, please stay resilient, even with the
- 7:25challenges around you.
- 7:26Challenges will come, but resilience allows you to
- 7:29recover and keep moving forward.
- 7:31That's the key.
- 7:32Keep moving forward.
- 7:35Choose action, guys.
- 7:36Number nine, action creates momentum.
- 7:39Waiting rarely changes anything.
- 7:42Number 10, overcome that fear.
- 7:45Fear doesn't disappear by waiting.
- 7:47It becomes smaller every time you face it.
- 7:51I think that's something that we can celebrate
- 7:53each day is how we face that fear,
- 7:55how we can grow from that fear.
- 7:59Number 11, guys, build mental strength.
- 8:03A disciplined mind helps you stay focused when
- 8:09circumstances around us unfortunately become difficult.
- 8:13Number 12, please keep moving forward.
- 8:16No matter what, keep moving forward.
- 8:17Progress isn't always fast, but consistent movement leads
- 8:21to lasting results.
- 8:23Number 13, your preparation is the key.
- 8:27If you put in the work, believe in
- 8:29the knowledge and experience you've gained, it will
- 8:32happen.
- 8:33Number 14, stay determined.
- 8:35Obstacles test your commitment, but determination keeps your
- 8:38purpose alive.
- 8:41Number 15, every challenge teaches.
- 8:45Every obstacle contains a lesson that can make
- 8:48you wiser and stronger.
- 8:50I think that's an important piece for a
- 8:53lot of us to think about.
- 8:56Number 16, push beyond comfort.
- 8:59I'm not saying to be in pain.
- 9:00I'm saying to be uncomfortable, okay?
- 9:04There's a difference, not pain.
- 9:06Growth happens when you challenge yourself to do
- 9:10what once felt impossible.
- 9:12Every step outside your comfort zone expands what
- 9:16you're capable of.
- 9:18Number 17, stay disciplined.
- 9:20Discipline helps you keep going even when excitement
- 9:24fades.
- 9:25Consistency turns goals into accomplishments.
- 9:29Number 18, keep improving.
- 9:32No matter what, you've got to keep improving,
- 9:34okay?
- 9:35There's always another skill to develop, another lesson
- 9:39to learn, and another opportunity to become better
- 9:42than yesterday.
- 9:44So we have to embrace the good with
- 9:48the challenging, right?
- 9:50The easy with the difficult or the hard
- 9:53parts.
- 9:54I think that's a thing that a lot
- 9:55of us miss sometimes.
- 9:57And when we get past the hard part,
- 10:00there's a lot that we can do.
- 10:01Number 19, believe in possibility.
- 10:04Don't let your current circumstances define your future.
- 10:08Great achievements often begin with someone believing they
- 10:12are possible.
- 10:14Number 20, learn continuously.
- 10:18Life is your greatest classroom.
- 10:20Stay curious, ask questions, and never, never stop
- 10:24growing.
- 10:27Never stop growing.
- 10:29We want to keep learning.
- 10:31We want to keep growing.
- 10:33And things are not always going to be
- 10:35easy, guys.
- 10:36But when we have things that are challenging,
- 10:38it allows us to learn from those lessons,
- 10:42those setbacks, and to become a better version
- 10:43of ourselves.
- 10:45Number 21, guys, build resilience.
- 10:49Every setback strengthens your ability to handle the
- 10:53next challenge.
- 10:55Resilience is developed through perseverance.
- 10:59Number 22, focus on opportunity.
- 11:03Instead of asking what's wrong, ask what's possible.
- 11:12A lot of people I know don't ask
- 11:14the question of what's possible.
- 11:16They ask what isn't possible.
- 11:18And I think that clouds a lot of
- 11:19people's judgment, you know, why they can't do
- 11:23something or why they can't do something.
- 11:25But I think that's a very important piece
- 11:31to recognize, to understand that whole concept.
- 11:39And that concept means that we can become
- 11:44better, guys.
- 11:46We can become better.
- 11:51Maybe you're saying to me, John, you know,
- 11:52this doesn't make a lot of sense to
- 11:53you.
- 11:54But I'm here to tell you, it makes
- 11:56plenty of sense, all right, plenty of sense.
- 12:00Sense that can really change where you are.
- 12:06I think that's a very important thing for
- 12:10us to realize, all right.
- 12:14It's an important thing to realize that we
- 12:16can make that difference in our life.
- 12:19But we have to push forward a little
- 12:21bit.
- 12:21We have to push forward, all right.
- 12:25Instead of us asking what's wrong, let's ask
- 12:27what's possible.
- 12:28Opportunity often hides in the challenges.
- 12:32Number 23, stay adaptable.
- 12:36Change is inevitable.
- 12:37Those who adapt with positive attitudes continue moving
- 12:40forward while others remain stuck.
- 12:4424, create momentum.
- 12:47Success is built one action at a time.
- 12:50Small victories create the energy for even bigger
- 12:52accomplishments.
- 12:55Number 25, I want you to think bigger,
- 12:58not because you have to, but because when
- 13:00you think bigger, it will make your life
- 13:02even better.
- 13:04Okay, I think that's a real important thing.
- 13:10So think bigger.
- 13:12Number 25, don't limit your dreams because they
- 13:14seem difficult.
- 13:15Your vision should inspire you to grow beyond
- 13:18your current abilities, not, you know, get you
- 13:21to stop or turn around.
- 13:24Number 26, don't fear mistakes.
- 13:27You know, growing up, families always say, oh,
- 13:30you can't make a mistake.
- 13:32Okay, don't worry about making the mistake.
- 13:36Worry about doing things that are better for
- 13:38you.
- 13:39Okay, worry about doing things that are better
- 13:42for you.
- 13:45I think that's a very important thing for
- 13:49us to realize.
- 13:51Okay, if we can understand that, then maybe
- 13:57our life will be just a little bit
- 13:59better.
- 14:00Mistakes are part of everyday success stories.
- 14:03Learn from them, adjust, and continue moving forward.
- 14:07That's the key.
- 14:09Number 27, success requires courage.
- 14:12Every worthwhile goal demands courage at some point.
- 14:16The people who succeed are those who keep
- 14:19taking the next step.
- 14:22Are you taking the next step or are
- 14:24you complaining because of something that you can
- 14:28actually master?
- 14:34And the reason people don't master things is
- 14:35they look for ways for us to be
- 14:38involved in excuse.
- 14:40A wise person once told me a long
- 14:42time ago, if you're not part of the
- 14:48solution, then you're part of the problem.
- 14:55Make sense?
- 15:01I hope that resonates with some of you
- 15:03because people say, well, I didn't cause the
- 15:05problem.
- 15:06I know you didn't cause it, but if
- 15:07you're not willing to look at how the
- 15:09problem could be better, how you could resolve
- 15:11it, then unfortunately you're part of the problem.
- 15:14Number 28, guys, stay committed.
- 15:17I know it's easy to drop out and
- 15:19say, I don't want to be committed.
- 15:20I can't be committed.
- 15:22You could play those games your entire life,
- 15:24but that's a problem.
- 15:27That's a serious, serious problem.
- 15:30Problem a lot of people won't realize.
- 15:33All right.
- 15:34Yeah.
- 15:37I think when we hit a roadblock and
- 15:41it's one that we didn't put there, we
- 15:43don't think we can remove it, but actually
- 15:44we can.
- 15:45See roadblocks are put in our way by
- 15:47other people, by their actions, by their thoughts,
- 15:51by their own belief of their own worth.
- 15:58That's what kills dreams, guys.
- 16:01It's not that people aren't, um, it's not
- 16:06that they're not able to do things.
- 16:10All right.
- 16:15It's important.
- 16:21And I know that you're probably saying to
- 16:23me, John, this makes no sense.
- 16:27It makes plenty of sense.
- 16:31Okay.
- 16:34It makes sense.
- 16:35I'm telling you this.
- 16:35And the reason I'm telling you this is
- 16:36that you can make so many changes in
- 16:39your life, but it comes from your belief
- 16:42pattern.
- 16:43It comes from what you feel you're worth.
- 16:49If you don't think you're worth anything, you're
- 16:53never going to be anything.
- 16:55I don't say that to be harsh.
- 16:56I say that to tell you the truth.
- 16:59When you change your worth, your life changes.
- 17:06Your life changes.
- 17:08That's a very important thing.
- 17:12All right.
- 17:17It's a very, very important thing.
- 17:19I hope a lot of you will appreciate
- 17:22and will understand.
- 17:36I think sometimes people just, they quit.
- 17:42But what some people would often say is
- 17:44they go home early, right?
- 17:47You shouldn't go home early.
- 17:50If the job's not done and the task
- 17:52isn't completed, why do you go home early?
- 17:55I'm tired.
- 17:59Nobody recognized me.
- 18:03I get this from people at networking events.
- 18:05I went there and, well, nobody said hello
- 18:07to me.
- 18:08Oh, maybe you need to be more engaging.
- 18:13We can't judge our worth on other people's
- 18:15actions.
- 18:18That's a key point, guys.
- 18:22Our worth happens internally.
- 18:25And as that worth starts to take form,
- 18:31it's then shown outside the body.
- 18:34I think those are things that a lot
- 18:36of people just, they don't realize.
- 18:38And they don't even know that that's possible.
- 18:40But I want to tell you that it
- 18:42is so very possible for you.
- 18:46It's possible because with this, you can change
- 18:49who you are.
- 18:50You can change your life.
- 18:54Changing your life might seem hard, especially when
- 18:59other people around you are knocking you.
- 19:02Maybe they're not praising you.
- 19:05Maybe they're even talking out of the other
- 19:07side of their mouth.
- 19:08They're being two-faced.
- 19:09But that doesn't mean you should go home
- 19:11early.
- 19:12That doesn't mean you should give up.
- 19:13That doesn't mean that you should stop doing
- 19:15what you're doing, just being honest.
- 19:19Number 28, please, ladies and gentlemen, I can't
- 19:22emphasize this one enough.
- 19:25Please stay committed.
- 19:31Stay committed.
- 19:33When you stay committed, your life changes.
- 19:40Your life changes.
- 19:42You start to become more aware of things
- 19:45that have always been there.
- 19:48But suddenly, they're starting to get you to,
- 19:53how can I say, notice them.
- 19:58Maybe you saw them, but you didn't know
- 20:01what they were.
- 20:01Or you didn't think they were for you.
- 20:06Maybe what you're doing in life is just
- 20:09going through the motions.
- 20:11Ever done that?
- 20:15Maybe they're just doing things that we're not
- 20:16really enjoying the joy of life.
- 20:18I was having a conversation with a friend
- 20:20of mine who owns a restaurant today, and
- 20:22we're talking about how people miss the joy
- 20:24and beauty of life.
- 20:28And it happens because I think they get
- 20:30too stuck in their own ways.
- 20:35They don't ground themselves.
- 20:39They don't.
- 20:42Another problem, right?
- 20:44Another problem.
- 20:48So I think we have to be conscious
- 20:50of these things.
- 20:51All right?
- 20:53We've definitely got to be conscious of this
- 20:56stuff.
- 20:57And when we become conscious of it, it
- 21:01changes who we are in life.
- 21:04See, commitment keeps us focused when directions sort
- 21:12of distract us.
- 21:14We sometimes call it noise, interference.
- 21:21Discipline keeps us on track.
- 21:24It's so key, guys, to stay true to
- 21:27your vision, to your purpose, your mission, and
- 21:29trust your journey.
- 21:33Life is a great journey.
- 21:37Sometimes you think somebody's journey is supposed to
- 21:40encompass you, but then you find out that
- 21:42maybe it wasn't.
- 21:44And that's perfectly okay.
- 21:46Some people are meant to come into our
- 21:48lives for a short period of time.
- 21:49Some people are meant to stay longer, and
- 21:51some people are meant to stay our entire
- 21:52lives.
- 21:55But the key here for success is not
- 21:58allowing that to influence how you live your
- 22:03life.
- 22:04Number 29, guys, keep believing.
- 22:08Believe in your vision, even before others can
- 22:14see it.
- 22:14I've said this before.
- 22:15If you're working on something, it's like the
- 22:18plane that's in the hangar or on the
- 22:20runway or the boat that's at the dock.
- 22:23Or the train that's in the station.
- 22:24It's not moving.
- 22:25Nobody wants to move toward that.
- 22:31But once you start moving, once it starts
- 22:33getting on fire, people risk their entire lives
- 22:36to jump on board.
- 22:41Your belief fuels your determination.
- 22:45So what you believe of yourself, your worth,
- 22:51your abilities, that affects your determination.
- 22:55Number 30, guys, courage.
- 23:02Courage changes your future.
- 23:06Every courageous decision shapes the person you're becoming.
- 23:13When you consistently choose courage over comfort, you
- 23:17create opportunities that fear could never provide.
- 23:23Fear could never provide them.
- 23:25False evidence appearing real.
- 23:31False evidence appearing real.
- 23:35I feel it's like a crime that we
- 23:36do to ourselves when we suddenly don't do
- 23:40something because of a belief that we got.
- 23:44Let's say, you know, a fleeing belief.
- 23:47And that belief changes the whole outcome because
- 23:53we lost faith in ourselves.
- 23:55When we lose faith in ourselves, we don't
- 24:00want to do anything anymore.
- 24:01And other people don't want to be around
- 24:03us because we're just making excuses for things.
- 24:13Those are key, guys.
- 24:16When there's a problem, do you try to
- 24:18do what you can to solve it?
- 24:19Or do you just leave the situation?
- 24:22If you leave it, then you're part of
- 24:25the problem and not the solution.
- 24:39That's a problem, guys.
- 24:42How would you think about that?
- 24:50How would you respond?
- 24:57Just ask yourself that question.
- 25:04I think a lot of us, when there's
- 25:08not an immediate change or answer, we think
- 25:12about something in a different way.
- 25:17A different way.
- 25:19A way that maybe we didn't know was
- 25:22possible.
- 25:27Belief is the key, guys.
- 25:29Belief is that glue that dries or the
- 25:33invisible connector that holds us together.
- 25:36It's our belief.
- 25:38I want to wrap today up and say
- 25:42that choosing courage doesn't mean life suddenly becomes
- 25:46easy.
- 25:47No, I'm not saying that.
- 25:48It means you've decided that growth is more
- 25:51important than comfort and that your dreams are
- 25:55worth pursuing despite uncertainty.
- 25:57I'm living proof of that.
- 25:59My book, Train to Driven, about how I
- 26:01broke my tip and fib.
- 26:05Every challenge you face is another opportunity to
- 26:08become stronger, wiser, and more confident.
- 26:12Now, I can tell you this.
- 26:15When I broke my tip and fib, I
- 26:20blocked it all the pain.
- 26:21But it was emotionally discomforting.
- 26:24Not being able to walk on my own
- 26:26fully.
- 26:28Not being able to do the things I
- 26:30would normally do every day independently.
- 26:32That was a shock.
- 26:35And I think when we take time out
- 26:38to say, wait a minute, this isn't the
- 26:40way I want it to be.
- 26:41I want to change something, right?
- 26:43I want to change how things are.
- 26:46And you can.
- 26:47You can start right this very moment in
- 26:49changing things.
- 26:51Choose courage, guys.
- 26:53Choose courage.
- 26:55That's it.
- 26:57I want you to remember something, ladies and
- 26:58gentlemen.
- 27:00Courage is not reserved for just extraordinary people.
- 27:09It's available to anyone willing to take the
- 27:14next step.
- 27:18So I invite you to have the difficult
- 27:19conversation with yourself and accept the challenge.
- 27:31Believe in yourself when it matters most.
- 27:36You see, every time you choose courage over
- 27:40comfort, you're investing in a better future.
