- 4:12Speaker 3: With good thoughts, please give them to us, Tody all right.
- 4:15Speaker 5: T s.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Eliot says, what we call the beginning is often the end,
- 4:21Speaker 2: and to make an end is to make a beginning.
- 4:25Speaker 2: What we call the beginning is often the end, and
- 4:28Speaker 2: to make an end is to make a beginning. Ts Eliot.
- 4:33Speaker 2: You know why this is important Not because it reminds
- 4:36Speaker 2: me of a Lincoln Park song, because this is not
- 4:38Speaker 2: the end, This is not the beginning. No, it's that
- 4:40Speaker 2: letting go is a part of growth, So let it go.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Endings open up space for you and I to reinvent ourselves.
- 4:49Speaker 2: So embrace the letting go, embrace the end, and then
- 4:54Speaker 2: embrace the new beginning. Thank you T. S. Eliot for
- 4:58Speaker 2: those words, and if you would like to see them

- 14:07Speaker 3: Or or you could take a tortilla, put chili on
- 14:10Speaker 3: top in cheese and make a Mexican.
- 14:12Speaker 4: Pizza from it.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Wait, a second. You could put chili on top of

- 21:40Speaker 2: Ninety seven point one wash CHEFM with Toby and Chilly
- 21:43Speaker 2: in the morning. That's Katie Harris playing a part of
- 21:45Speaker 2: Chilia mar today on this snow day. And it's time
- 21:48Speaker 2: now for a story that we think might just make
- 21:50Speaker 2: your Monday. It's about neighbors, kindness and what happens when
- 21:54Speaker 2: people show up for one another even if the weather
- 21:58Speaker 2: is not exactly cooperative. Let's go back to two thousand
- 22:03Speaker 2: and three. There was a massive snow storm here in
- 22:05Speaker 2: the DMV and a guy named Dave Scarenderella. I probably
- 22:09Speaker 2: butchered his name. I'm sorry. Dave's corin Durella. He was
- 22:12Speaker 2: out shoveling his driveway in Ashbourne, Virginia, just trying to
- 22:16Speaker 2: stay ahead of the snow, like everybody else who lives
- 22:18Speaker 2: on his cul de sac. But one simple question changed
- 22:22Speaker 2: everything for Dave.
- 22:24Speaker 4: See, Dave was in the midst of his neighbors.
- 22:27Speaker 3: They're all outside, they're shoveling side by side, and the
- 22:29Speaker 3: snow is thick and it's heavy. And as he's doing that,
- 22:34Speaker 3: he casually asked one of them, Hey, how's your wife
- 22:36Speaker 3: doing well. The neighbor answered, and his response was she's
- 22:41Speaker 3: do any day now. And when those words came out,
- 22:45Speaker 3: everything just stopped and in unison like the neighbors look
- 22:48Speaker 3: at each other and they're like, okay.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Any day now, We got this.
- 22:53Speaker 3: They grabbed their shovels, they got their snowblowers, and together
- 22:58Speaker 3: they cleared two regards of snow so that way they
- 23:02Speaker 3: could get a single length through the cold a sack,
- 23:04Speaker 3: so that way if an ambulance needed to it could
- 23:07Speaker 3: be there. Now, Dave said that the snow was so thick,
- 23:11Speaker 3: literally they had to chop it down first and then
- 23:13Speaker 3: run it over again and again with the snowblower. Literally
- 23:17Speaker 3: they were out there till one o'clock in the morning,
- 23:19Speaker 3: in the cold, exhausted. That's what they did. And it's
- 23:24Speaker 3: a good thing because the next morning she went in
- 23:29Speaker 3: to labor. Now, Dave says that that night pretty much
- 23:34Speaker 3: brought the entire neighborhood together, and for years afterwards, it's
- 23:38Speaker 3: like the story. They laugh about it, they fond about it. Well,
- 23:41Speaker 3: Dave's almost seventy now and he admits that, well, he's
- 23:45Speaker 3: not doing the shoveling anymore. As a matter of fact,
- 23:48Speaker 3: one of his neighbors has already told him, don't you
- 23:50Speaker 3: go out in all of this, So Dave said, he's
- 23:53Speaker 3: hoping for a little karma and kindness from the next
- 23:57Speaker 3: generation of the could A sac And.
- 23:59Speaker 2: That's exactly why this story makes our Monday. It reminds
- 24:02Speaker 2: us that sometimes the biggest act of kindness happened quietly,
- 24:07Speaker 2: with gloves on, with soaked boots and with no expectation
- 24:11Speaker 2: of a thank you. You can read this story again
- 24:13Speaker 2: the Toby and chilipage at washfm dot com and Dave
- 24:17Speaker 2: to you and your neighbors on that culdes sack. Thank

- 27:41Speaker 2: She's put together some kt Harris hacks on how we
- 27:45Speaker 2: can survive this arctic blast, this cold weather frozen tundra
- 27:50Speaker 2: bomb that's upon the DMV. We'll run that list down
- 27:54Speaker 2: in just a few Stay there, find out what's on
- 27:58Speaker 2: now here Toby and Chilly in the Morning. This week
- 28:01Speaker 2: Kat Harris is going to be playing the part of
- 28:03Speaker 2: Chilium r And as such, Kat has come with something
- 28:07Speaker 2: that will teach us something. We'll learn something new together
- 28:10Speaker 2: and it'll help us to survive this arctic blast, the
- 28:14Speaker 2: cold weather that's gripping the DMV in the aftermath of
- 28:17Speaker 2: this snowmageddon thing that hit us over the weekend. So
- 28:22Speaker 2: what is on this cold weather survival hack list there, Kat.
- 28:26Speaker 6: Well, there's a couple.
- 28:28Speaker 3: One of them is you can take plastic baggies, put
- 28:30Speaker 3: them over the mirrors, you know, the side mirrors on
- 28:33Speaker 3: your car.
- 28:33Speaker 4: Okay, that way that they don't get frosted over. You
- 28:36Speaker 4: can use PAM.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Spray it on your door like on your car dwarfs.
- 28:39Speaker 3: That way doesn't get frozen shut PAM PAM yes WD
- 28:43Speaker 3: forty or PAM PAM will work because well it's kind
- 28:46Speaker 3: of it's oil. Take a towel put it over your
- 28:48Speaker 3: windshield so that way you don't have to worry about
- 28:50Speaker 3: the snow and the ice. But some of the most
- 28:52Speaker 3: brilliant ones are taking aluminum foil. Once you got your socks,
- 28:56Speaker 3: wrap your feet in foil, then put on an other
- 29:00Speaker 3: pair of socks, and then when you go out in
- 29:02Speaker 3: your boots, your feet aren't getting cold. And if you
- 29:05Speaker 3: want to up the anti put sprinkle some cayenne pepper
- 29:09Speaker 3: on your feet before you put the illuminum. I know
- 29:12Speaker 3: it sounds crazy, but trust me, it works. It keeps
- 29:14Speaker 3: your feet nice and toasty. If you have those little
- 29:17Speaker 3: plastic gloves, you know, the examination gloves or the food
- 29:21Speaker 3: service neust put those on before you put your regular gloves,
- 29:24Speaker 3: because then when you're outside in the cold, it will
- 29:27Speaker 3: actually keep your hands warmer. Trust me on this, This
- 29:32Speaker 3: really does work. And the final one I gotta say,
- 29:35Speaker 3: because well, today is officially National bubble Wrap Day. If
- 29:39Speaker 3: you are looking to keep your house warm, take bubble wrap,
- 29:43Speaker 3: use the flat side, squirt it with a little water,
- 29:45Speaker 3: go put it up against the window, and boom, you
- 29:49Speaker 3: have got some extra insulation.
- 29:51Speaker 2: I'm still trying to understand the aluminum foil and the
- 29:55Speaker 2: cayenne pepper on your feet.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yah, yeah, yeah yeah, they're gonna make you
- 29:59Speaker 3: stay No, it's not. Listen, the football players in the NFL,
- 30:03Speaker 3: we're just two weeks ago doing this.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, but still it's probably made their cleat stank.
- 30:09Speaker 2: They get unlimited cleats.
- 30:10Speaker 3: You're not worried about the stink when it's zero degrees
- 30:14Speaker 3: outside and you want to stay warm, that's all I'm worried.
- 30:16Speaker 2: About is the fact that my heater works. And that's
- 30:19Speaker 2: my hack for you turn the heater to eighty five
- 30:22Speaker 2: and enjoy the warmth like you in the tropics.
- 30:27Speaker 6: I still say get the bubble route.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Hey, Katie, do you have a teacher in your life
- 30:32Speaker 2: that you remember fondly that made a difference?
- 30:35Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 30:35Speaker 3: I do. Her name was missus Wright, and she used
- 30:37Speaker 3: to always say ninety nine and a half percent does
- 30:41Speaker 3: not count.
- 30:41Speaker 4: You give it one hundred.
- 30:43Speaker 8: Mmm.
- 30:43Speaker 2: I remember my kindergarten teacher, Miss Valentine, just because I
- 30:47Speaker 2: used to get smiling Graham. She had really cute girl
- 30:49Speaker 2: handwriting and she used to sign miss with the heart
- 30:52Speaker 2: and that was her name. Oh, miss Valentine. Oh these teachers,
- 30:56Speaker 2: you know, if there's a teacher in your life, it's
- 30:58Speaker 2: made a difference. They could win five thousand dollars for
- 31:01Speaker 2: their classroom. It's iheard radios Thank you teacher, powered by

- 31:34Speaker 2: Yes, I remember. I had hair in the nineties and
- 31:36Speaker 2: I just bleached it and that's probably why it's gone.
