- 0:03From the unexplained to the mundane, come join
- 0:06us on a journey to the fringe. Hello and welcome
- 0:14to Journey to the Fringe. Apparently here with
- 0:17the hot takes about cryptic creatures and how
- 0:19they taste. We are your podcast hosts, Taylor
- 0:23and Chelsea. Here today, probably not talking
- 0:25about that, but who knows, we've got opinions
- 0:27on stuff. We might be wrong, we might be right,
- 0:30but they're going to be loud. It's a Chelsea
- 0:32episode, so I'll let her take it from here. That
- 0:34sounds about right. Okay, we're coming back from
- 0:37a little bit of a break, but you know. Not for
- 0:39you. Not for you. And, you know, I have to apologize
- 0:43in the last episode for my audio. You know, I
- 0:46hope I have it on the right setting now. Turns
- 0:49out we recorded the last episode and this episode
- 0:52back to back, so we're cutting. The whole last
- 0:54episode. Yeah, just so you guys know, we do have
- 0:57quality standards, and we cut a whole episode
- 1:00because the quality wasn't high enough. In saying
- 1:03that, we actually have... put a lot of episodes
- 1:06out there that we shouldn't have because we needed
- 1:08to but you don't worry about that we cut a whole
- 1:11episode because of this yeah maybe you'll get
- 1:14it again one day you probably won't because it
- 1:16wasn't worth re -recording so here we are anyhow
- 1:19we're coming back from a little bit of a break
- 1:21and in that time I had some time to start a handful
- 1:24of new scripts and abandon them completely what
- 1:27else would I do with that time in all the doom
- 1:29scrolling I was doing on reddit I had an idea.
- 1:32And that idea is one with no direction at all.
- 1:36And it's just a bunch of encounters that I've
- 1:39come across recently that I found interesting.
- 1:41And since we're all friends here, I thought it's
- 1:44in your best interest that I share them with
- 1:46you. And oh boy, do I have some good encounters
- 1:49that you are going to like. Okay, I love it.
- 1:52And Chelsea, I actually had the exact same idea
- 1:54for something slightly different that we're actually
- 1:56going to be doing in a few weeks. So I'm excited
- 1:59that we kind of have the same idea. I love that
- 2:01on our time off, we both had the same idea. To
- 2:05get us started, we have an encounter from Phantoms
- 2:08and Monsters, and I got this one specifically
- 2:10from Phantoms and Monsters Radio. Let me tell
- 2:14you, as an aside, Lon, I enjoy the work you do.
- 2:18I haven't looked too far into you yet, so asshole
- 2:21status is yet to be confirmed. But you really
- 2:25need to get someone else to read the encounters
- 2:27on your show, man. Straight up. I'll volunteer.
- 2:31Yeah. I don't know. He needs to drink a coffee
- 2:33right before he does it or something. Not only
- 2:36coffee, but he also needs to drink a liter of
- 2:39water or something. Because all I can hear is
- 2:41his mouth like saliva. Anyhow, I'm not going
- 2:46to go into details because I don't like dirty
- 2:49lawn. Yeah, I got my own gripes with lawn. If
- 2:52you want to hear them, go back to the genitals
- 2:54episode. So all we got on lawn right now is his
- 3:00non -reporting genitals and his mouth noises.
- 3:07I mean, that's not too bad, but anyhow. Just
- 3:11wanted to provide a recommendation. Thanks for
- 3:14listening and taking my opinions into consideration.
- 3:17I'm going to hold back the title on this one.
- 3:20I don't want to give it away too quickly. And
- 3:22the title is way too specific to start with.
- 3:25Okay. This one is from February 21st, 2020. And
- 3:29you may say, but I thought you wanted to look
- 3:31at recent encounters. They are recent to me and
- 3:34to you. Hopefully you haven't heard this. I was,
- 3:37this is where it starts. Quote, kind of. I don't
- 3:41know. I think this is the story. I was contacted
- 3:43by BR by telephone. I feel like this is long.
- 3:47The witness had several questions about Bigfoot
- 3:49before he told me what he had encountered. The
- 3:52reason for the questions was because BR did not
- 3:55believe in the phenomenon until he had this experience.
- 3:59He seemed reluctant to talk at first, but was
- 4:01assured that I had heard many hard -to -believe
- 4:03Bigfoot encounters over the years. Little did
- 4:06I know, I was about to hear a remarkable account.
- 4:09BR is a licensed personal use medical marijuana
- 4:12grower who resides in Minnesota. Wait. Yeah.
- 4:16That's his job? Yeah. He grows his own weed?
- 4:22Yeah. Medical marijuana. I don't think it sounds
- 4:26like it's for himself. They said personal use.
- 4:29Yep. I did say that. Okay. That's his job. How
- 4:35is that his job? How could that possibly pay?
- 4:40Anyhow, I'm not here to answer those questions.
- 4:43I'm just here to read and not listen to what
- 4:45I'm saying, apparently. No, and that's the whole
- 4:48thing. When we do stories about encounters, we
- 4:51are not judging the encounters or the people.
- 4:54Because it's just to get the story forward. In
- 4:56this sense, we are very much Dr. Salas. That's
- 4:59his name, right? Michael Salas. Yeah, yeah. Is
- 5:03he a doctor? Yes, he is. Yeah, this is PhD. Yeah.
- 5:07I love that guy. May he never realize his hair
- 5:10is receding. The general location of the incident
- 5:14is Charlton County in a forested area near the
- 5:19Kettle River. In order to avoid theft of his
- 5:22plants, BR built a secure 10 by 12 growing shed
- 5:25on a piece of property he owned. The shed was
- 5:28built out of reinforced cement blocks with vertical
- 5:31steel girders. placed every six inches along
- 5:35the inside wall. He also had a heavy steel vault
- 5:38door fitted with a large tempered block. The
- 5:41inside of the shed was eight feet from ceiling
- 5:43to floor with heating, humidity control, grow
- 5:46lights, etc. The entire setup was very expensive,
- 5:50including the electrical service that he had
- 5:53wired in from the main grid. Yes, which he paid
- 5:55for with his personal use marijuana. Yeah, just...
- 6:00Like opposed to what? Like, I'm wondering if
- 6:03it wasn't, I don't know. I'm just so confused
- 6:05about how this is his job. I think the whole
- 6:08reason, like, let's not worry too much about
- 6:10that. I think the whole reason they said that
- 6:12part is because they need to focus on the marijuana
- 6:14and why he has it. And it's not illegal. I think
- 6:17that's why they said it. Not that this is like,
- 6:19yeah, to make him sound reputable. True. Okay.
- 6:22I didn't think about that. Needless to say, BR
- 6:25did not want any persons messing with his plants.
- 6:29According to BR, he kept anywhere from 15 to
- 6:3220 plants at one time. He was also growing for
- 6:35two other licensed medical marijuana users. This
- 6:38system had been doing well for a year or so without
- 6:41any incidents. Then, a few months ago, BR traveled
- 6:45to his growing shed and immediately noticed that
- 6:48the steel vault door had been tampered with.
- 6:51There were scratches all around the outside face
- 6:53of the door and the jam had been slightly bent
- 6:56away from the cement blocks. It was difficult
- 6:58for BR to open the door after unlocking it. He
- 7:01figured that someone had attempted to force their
- 7:03way into the shed but were unable to gain access.
- 7:07None of the plants were tampered with, so BR
- 7:09fixed the door with additional reinforcement.
- 7:12Everything seemed fine for about three weeks
- 7:14but then there was another attempt to break into
- 7:17the shed. This time a large hole was created
- 7:20through the cement wall and one of the steel
- 7:22girders had been pushed out of its mooring in
- 7:25the concrete floor. Whoever gained access was
- 7:28able to reach into the shed and pull up a few
- 7:30plants. BR was confounded by the effort taken
- 7:33in order to gain access. There was snow on the
- 7:36ground and it indicated that there has been significant
- 7:39activity, but BR didn't notice any prints or
- 7:43other evidence. Not even a shoe print or tracks
- 7:46for any equipment that could have been used to
- 7:49create the breach. BR then decided to scout out
- 7:53the location. He repaired the wall and then decided
- 7:56He decided that he needed to set up a campsite
- 7:58nearby in order to catch whoever was messing
- 8:00with his property. He was ready for the long
- 8:03haul. BR set up a large tent about 30 yards from
- 8:07the shed and brought enough supplies in order
- 8:09to keep him comfortable for a week or more. I
- 8:11don't know that I'd do that, honestly. I just
- 8:14planted it through. That seems like a lot to
- 8:16protect your leg. Not making any money off it.
- 8:20Weed. He doesn't have a whole lot of plants either.
- 8:23I don't know that I'd be that committed to it.
- 8:25He doesn't seem to have a lot going on in his
- 8:27life, though. Like, from how it's been described.
- 8:30Yeah, I know. I need this. He also installed
- 8:36outside lighting around the top of the shed.
- 8:38I mean, he could have just put a camera in. He
- 8:42couldn't afford it. He only got self -grown weed
- 8:46money. After a few nights, everything seemed
- 8:50to be quiet. The only movement that he noticed
- 8:53in the forest was one visit from a black bear
- 8:56and an occasional deer here and there. Then,
- 9:00one evening around twilight, he heard cracking
- 9:02sounds coming from the direction of the shed.
- 9:05There was enough light to see movement, though
- 9:09the lights around the shed had not come on yet
- 9:11since it was set on a timer. It wasn't even like...
- 9:16Movement activated? It was on a timer. He's doing
- 9:21a really shitty job at surveilling. As BR focused
- 9:26in at a distance of about 20 yards, he could
- 9:29see light escaping from the shed onto the adjacent
- 9:32trees from a far wall. Something had breached
- 9:35the shed. What he's doing a bad job himself.
- 9:39What he witnessed next was a complete and utter
- 9:43shock to BR. stepping away around the shed was
- 9:46an eight to nine foot tall bigfoot carrying at
- 9:50least six plants as br watched he observed the
- 9:55creature literally place one of the long stems
- 9:58on the plant into its mouth and strip off the
- 10:01leaves and buds He watched the Bigfoot chew the
- 10:06contents while walking away towards the forest.
- 10:09I asked B .R. if the Bigfoot acknowledged his
- 10:12presence. He answered that the Bigfoot looked
- 10:15in his direction for a second, turned, and walked
- 10:18away. Did he do it in like a really chill way?
- 10:21Probably. His eyes were probably all squinty.
- 10:25Yeah. BR then noticed other activity and sounds
- 10:30coming from the surrounding area. He is positive
- 10:33that there were several other Bigfoot nearby
- 10:35during the incident. BR's description was of
- 10:39a massive frame with a conical head covered in
- 10:42dark auburn colored hair. That sounds beautiful.
- 10:46The face had sparse hair and that the features
- 10:49of the face were noticeable. I wonder what the
- 10:52features were. Yeah, they were just noticeable.
- 10:56I didn't notice them, but they were noticeable.
- 10:59They probably both looked at each other through
- 11:01squint eyes. They probably had the same look
- 11:06on their face. BR mentioned that he could literally
- 11:09see the whites of his eyes. Okay, they were white,
- 11:12not red, which seemed to glow a bit. Oh, good
- 11:16for you. He's real high at this point, just so
- 11:18we're all on the same page. The face was very
- 11:22ape -like with a large, wide, flat nose. He also
- 11:26mentioned that he could clearly see the fingernails
- 11:29on one of the large hands. The gate was also
- 11:33very unusual, as if it picked up its feet higher
- 11:37than a human when it walked. He was able to see
- 11:39the bottom of the feet as it walked away. I asked
- 11:43if there was an opportunity to take a photograph,
- 11:46but BR said that his phone had been turned off
- 11:48in order to save the battery since he was going
- 11:51to be in the forest for several days, which actually
- 11:53tracks being like how everything else has gone
- 11:56for BR so far. Yeah, he was living in like a
- 11:59shed. That was not supposed to maintain life
- 12:03for a few days just to do this. Yep. So I get
- 12:06that. He's not going to waste money on charging
- 12:09a phone. The incident occurred about two weeks
- 12:13ago. BR has since begun building another grow
- 12:17shed at another location several miles away.
- 12:20He did repair the previous shed and has begun
- 12:23to place trail cameras at the location. There
- 12:25we go. He is determined to gather evidence, either
- 12:29photographic and or physical. He does have one
- 12:32of the stems that was stripped and hopes to have
- 12:35it tested for saliva or touch DNA. BR and I plan
- 12:39to keep in contact. And here's Lon's note. Wait,
- 12:46sorry. They're hoping BR can provide proof or
- 12:51Lon can provide proof to him. That was just a
- 12:54weird way it was phrased. Yeah, it feels like
- 12:58Lon is relaying the story. So I think Lon is
- 13:02hoping to provide some proof. I don't know, honestly.
- 13:05But here's a note from Lon. Lon notes... Was
- 13:09the Bigfoot interested in the marijuana for possible
- 13:12pain control or simply for the hallucination
- 13:15effects? According to some of the team and other
- 13:18investigators, there have been instances of Bigfoot
- 13:21pulling illegal marijuana plants in the Pacific
- 13:24Northwest slash Northern California. As well,
- 13:28the native people have mentioned these creatures
- 13:30used herbs and plants. It seems to me that the
- 13:33determination to gain access to the plants by
- 13:36this particular Bigfoot was for a medical reason.
- 13:40Lon. I don't know why he says that. And the whole
- 13:46fact that it was like thrashing to get in there
- 13:48leads me to believe it was not for medical reasons.
- 13:52It's true. I mean, you're right. It took weeks
- 13:54to get in there. That for medical reasons, that
- 13:58doesn't make sense. Like if you need something
- 14:00for medical, you need it quick and you need it
- 14:02now and you're not going to plot out how to get
- 14:05in there. Yeah. Anyhow, I really like the story.
- 14:08I would agree with you that it's definitely they
- 14:12just think it's fun. Yeah. And he's so fucking
- 14:15high out there. I do like the thought of a high
- 14:19Bigfoot just kind of wandering around the Pacific
- 14:22Northwest. The true chillest cryptid out there.
- 14:27Okay, so the next one, I'm going to read you
- 14:30the actual title. I didn't mean for this to be
- 14:41so Bigfoot heavy, but hey, I just heard a lot
- 14:43of good Bigfoot encounters, and that's just the
- 14:47way it landed. This is from September 1978 at
- 14:52dusk. Exact time not given. Here's the witness
- 14:56report. Quote, My name is Donald, and this happened
- 15:00when I was a boy. In September 1978, I was living
- 15:04with my father on a farm near Shawano, Wisconsin,
- 15:07very close to Menominee Indian Reservation. Around
- 15:11that time, there had already been some talk in
- 15:14the community about an unknown large hairy creature
- 15:17that two deer hunters had seen not far from our
- 15:21farm. I had heard stories from the Menominee
- 15:24about Manabaiwak or the Giants, but I always
- 15:29considered those accounts to be legends. I never
- 15:32expected anything like that to cross into my
- 15:34own life. One evening, my father and I were coming
- 15:37home from the store when we noticed what looked
- 15:40like two hairy creatures in our garden. They
- 15:43appeared to be collecting squash. each creature
- 15:46was at least six feet tall it was dusk but there
- 15:48was still enough light for us to clearly see
- 15:50what they were doing my father immediately cut
- 15:54the headlights and stopped the car we just sat
- 15:56there stunned watching these creatures pick and
- 15:59eat squash from the garden they did not seem
- 16:01to notice us even though we are only about 100
- 16:04feet away After about five minutes, one of the
- 16:07creatures looked in our direction. When it did,
- 16:09I could see its eyes glow red in the moonlight.
- 16:12He was so fucking high. Yeah. Chelsea, I have
- 16:16to ask, is your theme here either glowing eyes
- 16:18or high individuals that we're seeing? Okay.
- 16:21The only theme is that I like these stories.
- 16:24Okay. And I came across them during our break.
- 16:27Didn't you listen to the beginning? I thought
- 16:29you said there was a bit more to it. No. Okay.
- 16:32You can pretend there is, though. Okay. And as
- 16:34always, it ends up being Bigfoot heavy. So anyhow
- 16:37that frightened us. We decided we needed to make
- 16:41a dash for the house and call the police. I would
- 16:44agree with that and I feel like I would have
- 16:47played out this entire situation the same thing.
- 16:50Like you're coming home from what have you and
- 16:53you're like what is that in our squash garden?
- 16:55And you're like whoa those look like Bigfoot.
- 16:58Let's just sit here and watch them. Until they
- 17:01look at you and they blink and their eyes are
- 17:03like glowing red. Then I'd be like, probably
- 17:05time to go. Oh, they're so cute. And they look
- 17:07up at you with their glowing red eyes. It seems
- 17:11so natural. Then I'd be like, yeah, we're going
- 17:16to leave now. I think that's where you even give
- 17:18them your wallet. No, you got to give them the
- 17:20marijuana plants. Yeah. Okay, so then that happens.
- 17:28Before we could move, huge dish -shaped objects
- 17:31suddenly appeared above us. They slowly moved
- 17:35towards the east field which was about 200 yards
- 17:38from us and one of them landed. I estimate that
- 17:41the craft was about 40 feet in diameter. A large
- 17:45sliding door opened almost immediately and a
- 17:48foggy green light glowed from inside the craft.
- 17:51After a few seconds, the door closed. The craft
- 17:55slowly rose into the air, then shot off towards
- 17:57the north. When we looked back toward the garden,
- 18:01the creatures were gone. A few days later, our
- 18:04neighbors from down the road came over for dinner.
- 18:06After we finished eating, my father and Mr. C
- 18:09walked outside and talked for about an hour.
- 18:12Later, after the neighbors left, I was cleaning
- 18:14up the kitchen. That evening, I was watching
- 18:16television in the living room when my father
- 18:19walked in, turned off the TV, and sat down beside
- 18:22me. He told me that Mr. C and his sister had
- 18:25witnessed one of the crafts on the same night
- 18:27as our encounter. They had also seen several
- 18:29of the large hairy creatures meandering in the
- 18:32nearby woods. Mr. C said he knew something had
- 18:35been in those woods for several weeks, but he
- 18:38never got a good look at it until the craft arrived.
- 18:41After that night, we never had another encounter.
- 18:44We also never heard of any more sightings from
- 18:47people in the area. Do you think these creatures
- 18:49were Bigfoot aliens or the same thing? It has
- 18:53always seemed strange to me that a Bigfoot body
- 18:56has never been found. Is it possible that Bigfoot
- 18:59is an extraterrestrial being? Thanks, Donald.
- 19:03Here's Lon's, I got confused there for a second.
- 19:06Here's Lon's commentary. This report, I can just
- 19:09hear Lon saying this in my head because I listened
- 19:12to so much. Chelsea, can you put like a sponge
- 19:14in your mouth so we can really get the Lon experience?
- 19:17Yeah, exactly. I need to put like cotton balls
- 19:19in there. Just dry it out. Get a hair dryer and
- 19:23just like blow it right in. There are times I
- 19:25have to skip over it because I'm just like, dear
- 19:27God. This report falls into the small but persistent
- 19:31category of Bigfoot and UFO crossover cases in
- 19:34which large hairy humanoids are reportedly seen
- 19:38in close proximity to aerial or landed craft.
- 19:42These accounts are controversial even within
- 19:44the Bigfoot research community because they challenged
- 19:47the strictly biological model of Sasquatch and
- 19:50pushed the discussion into high strangeness territory.
- 19:53Several details stand out. The creatures were
- 19:56engaged in ordinary animal -like behavior, apparently
- 20:00taking squash from a garden, yet the sudden appearance
- 20:03of dish -shaped craft and the immediate disappearance
- 20:06of the being strongly suggest a possible connection,
- 20:10at least from the witness's perspective. The
- 20:13account also includes multiple witnesses with
- 20:16Donald and his father seeing the creatures in
- 20:18the craft, while neighbors reportedly observed
- 20:21a similar craft and additional large hairy figures
- 20:24in the woods the same night. How do they know
- 20:26it's not the same? And why do they think it's
- 20:29just normal animal business with the squashes?
- 20:31How do they know what they're doing with the
- 20:33squashes? It could have been non -animal related.
- 20:36Well, that and then a UFO shows up right after.
- 20:38So maybe the squashes were in fact summoning
- 20:41a UFO. true like nothing about this seems ordinary
- 20:45like why were they collecting squashes oh yes
- 20:49off to my ufo now okay we've got the squashes
- 20:57for dinner let's go The Shawano region adds another
- 21:03layer of interest. The area lies near Menominee
- 21:07lands with dense woods, rural... Oh, God damn
- 21:11it. Why would they put those two words together?
- 21:13Rural roads. Rivers, farm fields, and long -standing...
- 21:18I'd like to hear lawn say rural roads. And long
- 21:21-standing indigenous traditions. No, I wouldn't.
- 21:24Actually, that was a lie. Donald's reference
- 21:26to the Manabi walk or the giants is notable because
- 21:30he already knew of regional giant lore before
- 21:33the encounter, though he originally dismissed
- 21:36those stories as legend. The red eye reflection
- 21:39may have a natural explanation, as if you see
- 21:43that all the time, Lon. If moonlight or a vehicle
- 21:46light caught the eyes at the right angle. But
- 21:50the broader sequence is much harder to explain
- 21:52conventionally. A pair of large, unknown animals
- 21:55raiding a garden would already be unusual. He
- 21:59already said it was normal. He did. They were
- 22:05doing perfectly normal. It was unusual for them
- 22:08to do it, but they were doing perfectly normal
- 22:10things in there. I don't know. I already called
- 22:15that out because I was like, I don't think that
- 22:17was normal. Adding the landed dish -shaped craft,
- 22:21the green interior light, the rapid departure,
- 22:23and the subsequent neighbor report makes this
- 22:26a classic high strangeness case. As for Donald's
- 22:30question, whether Bigfoot could be extraterrestrial,
- 22:32interdimensional, biological, or something else
- 22:35entirely, there is no definitive answer. The
- 22:38absence of a confirmed body remains one of the
- 22:41central mysteries surrounding the phenomenon.
- 22:43Cases like this do not prove an alien origin,
- 22:47but they do. suggest that some bigfoot reports
- 22:50may involve more than a conventional unknown
- 22:53primate that's that one okay i have one more
- 22:58this one is phantoms and monsters again and it
- 23:02this one did end up being a bigfoot episode sorry
- 23:05guys there does seem to be another common denominator
- 23:09here and he gets so i'm sure they've been like
- 23:15yearning for more Bigfoot since last week. Yeah,
- 23:18I know. They were just saying, why are we so
- 23:22starved for Bigfoot stuff with you guys? We do
- 23:25love good Bigfoot. Okay, so this one, get ready.
- 23:30Outdoorsman reports possible Bigfoot carrying
- 23:33child. It's capitalized. Sorry, I had to yell
- 23:37it. In red clothing at Colorado's Quinella Pass.
- 23:42Date, spring 2008. Morning. Witness report. Quote,
- 23:47I was camping and hiking through Colorado in
- 23:50the spring of 2018. For the past several years,
- 23:54I have tried to find any facts about what I saw
- 23:57and what I believe may have taken place. I contacted
- 24:00numerous Bigfoot researchers and investigators
- 24:03nationwide, but I never received any information
- 24:07that satisfied my concern. One morning I woke
- 24:11up to loud smashing sounds that seemed to be
- 24:13getting closer to my camp. At first I thought
- 24:16it might be an angry bear. I grabbed my hiking
- 24:20stick even though I knew it would not do much
- 24:22against a charging bear. I thought maybe with
- 24:25some luck I could distract it or jab at it enough
- 24:28to get away. The sounds came right up near my
- 24:31camp but then they suddenly turned away. everything
- 24:35happened very fast i peeked out of my tent and
- 24:38i saw a large dark hairy shape moving through
- 24:42the trees it looked like the thing was carrying
- 24:44something that had red cloth on it then it turned
- 24:48and ran up a steep hill i could hear it crashing
- 24:50through the trees and it sounded like a tank
- 24:53going 60 miles per hour up that slope i wish
- 24:56i had gotten a better look but the sighting was
- 24:58over almost immediately i had the strong feeling
- 25:01that i needed to get out of there right then
- 25:04It felt like I had seen something I was not supposed
- 25:06to see. I packed up my camp and hiked out of
- 25:09there. I am not completely sure, but ever since
- 25:12then, I have had the feeling that the red cloth
- 25:15may have been a t -shirt. I believe the large
- 25:18creature may have been carrying an abducted child.
- 25:21At that time, there were reports of missing people,
- 25:24especially children, and nobody seemed to know
- 25:27what had happened to them. I've been desperate
- 25:30for answers. I did everything I could to report
- 25:32what I saw, but law enforcement and state wildlife
- 25:36officials simply ignored me. I know what I saw
- 25:39and I believe a child was taken by the creature.
- 25:42This occurred at Gwinola Pass, which is located
- 25:45inside the Pike National Forest in Colorado,
- 25:48end quote. So what's a witness report without
- 25:51a commentary from law? So here we go. This is
- 25:55a disturbing report because the witness does
- 25:58not merely describe a fleeting Bigfoot -type
- 26:00sighting. His lasting concern centers on what
- 26:04the figure appeared to be carrying, the red cloth.
- 26:07Later interpreted by the witness as possibly
- 26:10being a t -shirt, became the detail that stayed
- 26:13with him and pushed him to contact multiple investigators.
- 26:16The Gwenaula Pass region is a rugged high elevation
- 26:19mountain corridor with steep slopes, dense timber
- 26:23at low elevations, open alpine areas and numerous
- 26:27hiking and camping access points. The south side
- 26:30of the byway enters the Pike National Forest
- 26:32South Plate Ranger District, while the broader
- 26:35Gwenaula Pass scenic byway connects the Georgetown
- 26:38and Grant areas through a heavily used but still
- 26:41wild mountain landscape. Whatever that means.
- 26:44There are several possible explanations to consider.
- 26:47A black bear is always a relevant factor in springtime
- 26:50backcountry encounters in Colorado. Bears are
- 26:53active from mid -March through early November,
- 26:56and a bear moving through timber near a campsite
- 26:59can create loud, crashing sounds. Low visibility,
- 27:03trees, fear, and a very brief viewing window
- 27:05can all distort what a witness perceives. That
- 27:08said, the witness described the figure as large,
- 27:12dark, hairy and moving uphill through heavy terrain
- 27:16with unusual speed and power he also distinguished
- 27:19the sound and movement from those of what he
- 27:22had initially believed might have been a bear
- 27:24the emotional after effect is also notable he
- 27:29did not simply leave because he was frightened
- 27:31by wildlife because he was frightened by wildlife
- 27:34he left because he felt he had seen something
- 27:37he should not have witnessed I'm interested about
- 27:41the fact that he didn't get from that that he
- 27:44had an overwhelming sense of dread. Because that's
- 27:47kind of what I got from him. From how you explain
- 27:51the story, it almost feels like he overthought
- 27:55the story and almost felt like he saw a kid getting
- 27:58abducted. Is that what you got from the initial
- 28:01encounter? And that's kind of what I got just
- 28:04from the story, how it was explained. I don't
- 28:07know for sure, but it almost feels like he saw
- 28:09this like red thing in front and he's like, maybe
- 28:11it was a kid because so many kids are being abducted
- 28:14in here these days. To me, it seemed like more
- 28:17of an afterthought when he was thinking about
- 28:20the encounter, but he did describe after he saw
- 28:24it that he felt like he saw something wrong that
- 28:27he shouldn't have seen and he had to leave. Yeah.
- 28:29Yeah. It's an afterthought. I think though it
- 28:33was once he left that he was like, I wonder what
- 28:36that red thing was. Do you think it was a kid?
- 28:39Yeah. But like, to me, it seems like he got,
- 28:43you know, how some of these encounters have that
- 28:46feeling of dread. i i just yeah you would think
- 28:50in that kind of situation you would get that
- 28:51too but that's not here he doesn't he doesn't
- 28:54explain it as that no that's just kind of how
- 28:57i interpreted it but no and even like the worries
- 29:00and dread that he seems to be feeling is um all
- 29:03thinking about it afterwards yeah The child abduction
- 29:07interpretation remains the witness's belief,
- 29:09not a verified conclusion. Without a confirmed
- 29:12missing person match, physical evidence, photographs,
- 29:16tracks or corroborating witnesses, the case cannot
- 29:19be treated as proof of an abduction. Still, the
- 29:23report deserves documentation because it contains
- 29:25a highly specific visual detail, a strong instinctive
- 29:29reaction, and a setting consistent with other
- 29:32remote mountain Sasquatch and high strangeness
- 29:35accounts. That's where I'm going to end the episode.
- 29:38However, what may be one of the most mysterious
- 29:43cryptids of the bunch that I encountered over
- 29:46the break That would be posted on Reddit cryptids
- 29:50and that was later removed about the Loma Prieta
- 29:53face fucker. Oh, yes. And that post was deleted
- 29:58shortly thereafter. I don't know if you actually
- 30:01had a chance to leave it. I did not have time
- 30:03to see any of that. It deserves a special mention,
- 30:07which is why it's going to come up here. And
- 30:09I assume it was deleted by the mods because it
- 30:12was clearly AI. And the poster said, beware the
- 30:16Loma Prieta face fucker. He's real. And then
- 30:19he posted an AI photo. Oh my God. The whole comments
- 30:22were so funny. So then in the comments, he posted
- 30:25just a picture of... of like the forest before
- 30:28and it all it said was moments before there was
- 30:36no black blur on it and so it gave me a chuckle
- 30:40it probably doesn't do it justice the way that
- 30:43I just described it but it was an amazing piece
- 30:46of internet history that is sadly deleted and
- 30:49that's my episode Do you like my Bigfoot episode?
- 30:52Well, thank you for that Bigfoot episode that
- 30:54was almost more than a Bigfoot episode, but we
- 30:57can't have more than just a Bigfoot episode,
- 31:00so that's where we're at. No, I like the stories.
- 31:03I really like that, like, everybody involved
- 31:06in them seemed to be fairly casual with everything.
- 31:09Like, they weren't out to go find a Bigfoot.
- 31:12They just happened to be doing their thing and
- 31:14a Bigfoot walked by or something like that. Yeah,
- 31:17these ones just seemed really special to me.
- 31:20I'm going to be honest, I do try to listen to
- 31:22Phantoms and Monsters. It's more like bedtime
- 31:25listening, if I was to be honest. But not like,
- 31:29you can't solely focus on it because of Lon's
- 31:32mouth noises. So it's an interesting podcast,
- 31:35but... Obviously, a few of these or more or all
- 31:39of them came from that. There's just something
- 31:41about all of them that really caught me, starting
- 31:44with the marijuana one. And then I was like,
- 31:46I got to fit this into an episode. Oh, I do really
- 31:49like that story. I love that guy. I want to talk
- 31:51to that guy, actually. Especially Lon's commentaries.
- 31:55Okay. Yeah. Well, that's probably a good place
- 31:58to end it. With that, I have been Taylor here
- 32:01with Chelsea. We are Journey to the Fringe. Thank
- 32:03you all for listening. We'll see you next week.
