Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: John's were joined by coach Penders. Tough loss for the
- 0:05Speaker 1: Huskies here, Coach, you can't six nothing lead things looking good.
- 0:10Speaker 1: But Zaber just kept scrapping away. They got seventeen hits
- 0:13Speaker 1: and they end up getting the key hits and the
- 0:15Speaker 1: late innings to win this thing.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Yeah, they looked like the better hitting team tonight. Statistically
- 0:20Speaker 2: they're not, but they were fining holes all over the place.
- 0:22Speaker 2: They hit some balls hard. You know, they made Pud
- 0:26Speaker 2: look for human and it was time to go to Cook.
- 0:28Speaker 2: I thought Cook did a solid job. And then we
- 0:31Speaker 2: you know, we had to extend Brady there and his
- 0:33Speaker 2: fastball was electric, but they got to it, you know,
- 0:36Speaker 2: they got to it in the in the tenth there
- 0:38Speaker 2: we making O two mistake and that winds up, you know,
- 0:41Speaker 2: that winds up hurting us there obviously hoping we could
- 0:45Speaker 2: bail him out. He's bailed us out all year and
- 0:47Speaker 2: done such a good job, and but we couldn't scratch
- 0:49Speaker 2: anything in the tenth and credit to Xavier, they just
- 0:52Speaker 2: kept coming. They were you know, and we know that
- 0:54Speaker 2: they play in a ballpark it's offensive. We know they
- 0:57Speaker 2: they're not going to back down from anybody. They schedule
- 0:59Speaker 2: up and and do it the way you're supposed to
- 1:01Speaker 2: do it.
- 1:01Speaker 3: And credit to them, they they were the better team tonight. Yeah.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I thought that home run in the eighth inning was
- 1:06Speaker 1: helpful for them to lead off homer from a guy
- 1:09Speaker 1: that had one home run all year. Luke Hamon hits
- 1:11Speaker 1: it out of here and that got him a little closer,
- 1:14Speaker 1: and then I think they felt like, you know, we
- 1:16Speaker 1: can maybe win this game.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, No, they're never out of it. They
- 1:19Speaker 2: they're well coached. They you know, they believe. We believe too.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I just it just got away from us there, and
- 1:26Speaker 2: you know, it's I feel bad for Brady.
- 1:28Speaker 3: He's putting so much on his shoulders there.
- 1:29Speaker 2: We're asking so much of him there and he wasn't
- 1:33Speaker 2: coming out so we were gonna win it or lose
- 1:35Speaker 2: it with him on the mound, and unfortunately, you know,
- 1:37Speaker 2: we just couldn't couldn't scratch anything to.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Bail him out in the tenth inning.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I liked our chances with what we had coming up,
- 1:43Speaker 2: and you know, Brian Petty is we can't strike out
- 1:47Speaker 2: looking there to start the inning off and set a
- 1:49Speaker 2: bad tone.
- 1:51Speaker 3: And he's he's done an awful lot over his career
- 1:55Speaker 3: and swinging it bad there, so frustrating.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I certainly you know, we didn't have we had opportunities
- 2:01Speaker 2: to to to extend the lead.
- 2:02Speaker 3: We don't get a sacrifice bunt down.
- 2:04Speaker 2: We gave him amentum back, you know, then we go
- 2:08Speaker 2: walk balk walk, and you get the momentum back with
- 2:11Speaker 2: the double play, and just can't can't hang on into it.
- 2:14Speaker 3: So, yeah, tough night. Got to rebound quickly. You gotta
- 2:16Speaker 3: have a short memory and get back.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Here and and uh, you know, Saint John's is gonna
- 2:20Speaker 2: be loaded for bear. We were able to take three
- 2:22Speaker 2: from them at their place, and uh, we got to
- 2:24Speaker 2: try to find a way to get a fourth tomorrow.
- 2:26Speaker 2: We gotta do that by going one.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And know, yeah, baseball's a crazy game, right Clay Burdett
- 2:30Speaker 1: strikes out three times in a row, hits into a
- 2:32Speaker 1: double plays, oh for four.
- 2:35Speaker 3: You're feeling like this is not my day. But he
- 2:37Speaker 3: gets a base hit in.
- 2:38Speaker 1: The eighth, he hits a home run in the tenth
- 2:41Speaker 1: or ninth, he gets a base hit home run. I mean,
- 2:43Speaker 1: you got a critic guys sometimes for getting off the mat,
- 2:46Speaker 1: all right, I mean that's what he did.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, he got a good swing.
- 2:48Speaker 2: You know, he had a good swing that we talked,
- 2:50Speaker 2: are we gonna We're gonna put michean and pitch to
- 2:54Speaker 2: Burdet because the statistics could say, well, he hasn't had
- 2:56Speaker 2: a great night, but he had a really good swing
- 2:57Speaker 2: and on the previous at bat against Brady, and it's
- 2:59Speaker 2: just so Josh went out and talked to him, and
- 3:02Speaker 2: you know, I can't I can't second guess that we
- 3:04Speaker 2: were facing two of the better hitters in the conference,
- 3:06Speaker 2: and you know, it happens, it happens. It's it's Brady
- 3:11Speaker 2: was the fastball is really coming out of the hand
- 3:13Speaker 2: and we haven't gone that fastball heavy in a long
- 3:15Speaker 2: time with him.
- 3:16Speaker 3: But I thought it merited it, you know, the way
- 3:18Speaker 3: that it.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Was coming out of his hand. And hey, they got
- 3:20Speaker 2: to a couple of good pitches, you know, and and uh,
- 3:22Speaker 2: I thought, the one pitch that I'd like that back
- 3:24Speaker 2: is that O two to start off the ninth inning,
- 3:28Speaker 2: you know, or the tenth inning.
- 3:29Speaker 3: I'm sorry, the O two pitch that went off the wall.
- 3:30Speaker 2: We had enough top spin on it to keep it
- 3:32Speaker 2: in the ballpark and and almost get out of it.
- 3:34Speaker 3: But that's a mistake that you really want.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Back, all right, final question emotions like you say, you
- 3:39Speaker 1: gotta flush it. You've got to get back. You're here
- 3:41Speaker 1: in an afternoon game tomorrow. How do you start that
- 3:44Speaker 1: or what do you do with the with the team
- 3:45Speaker 1: in terms of getting them away from what just happened.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Let's start, you know, page one tomorrow.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah, you just want to get back to the hotel
- 3:52Speaker 2: as quickly as possible. We had a long day here,
- 3:54Speaker 2: we got you know, we left the hotel around three
- 3:57Speaker 2: uh whatever, it was three something and think, and so
- 4:00Speaker 2: you want to get them tucked into bed as quickly
- 4:02Speaker 2: as possible. Adrenaline is still gonna be going. They're not
- 4:04Speaker 2: gonna fall asleep right away. But you got to get up,
- 4:06Speaker 2: get a good breakfast, and get after it tomorrow. It's
- 4:09Speaker 2: it's just they have to I got a lot of
- 4:11Speaker 2: respect for this group and the and the ability to
- 4:13Speaker 2: turn the page.
- 4:15Speaker 3: And attack the next day like nothing happened.
- 4:17Speaker 2: You have to have a short memory in baseball, and
- 4:19Speaker 2: and that's what we're gonna have to have tomorrow and
- 4:22Speaker 2: stay alive with it with just by going one and oh.
- 4:24Speaker 1: All right, what you've said, this is a resilient bunch.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It's gonna be put to a test tomorrow.
- 4:28Speaker 2: We're gonna find out, you know, we're gonna find out.
- 4:30Speaker 2: But it's been every resilient bunch no matter what happens tomorrow.
- 4:33Speaker 2: But I like our chances against anybody, you know, with
- 4:36Speaker 2: our backs up against the wall.
- 4:37Speaker 3: They've been up against the wall for a long time.
- 4:39Speaker 2: So uh, let's let's just go one Ton tomorrow and
- 4:42Speaker 2: stay alive play for play on Friday.
- 4:44Speaker 1: All right, good idea. I like it, all right, thanks coach.
- 4:46Speaker 1: All right, Stu Penders
