- 0:00Our attitude to the development of what many call psychic powers
- 0:05is ambivalent at best. Our popular culture is awash
- 0:10with movies, books, television programs, and any number of
- 0:15healers, psychics and occult practitioners plying their trade
- 0:19in our society. At the same time, while these
- 0:23themes and services are extremely popular, we tend to
- 0:27try to dismiss them as being something less than real because
- 0:32of the impalpable nature of some of these powers, as well as due
- 0:37to the amount of deception and outright fraud that has been
- 0:40committed under the sign of some of these powers by those who
- 0:45want to take advantage of the gullible.
- 0:47Who cannot distinguish the true from the false in a field that
- 0:52is just emerging in our lives in a serious way?
- 0:57Those who have real experiences sometimes are afraid to speak
- 1:00about them through fear that they will be ridiculed or even
- 1:03ostracized. The actress Shirley MacLaine
- 1:07broke ground by describing some of her experiences, and in
- 1:11particular an astral projection experience she lived through in
- 1:16her book and the film made from the book Out on a Limb.
- 1:21It is clear that a large number of people have at some time in
- 1:25their lives extraordinary experiences that they cannot
- 1:28explain away with the normal justifications and which they
- 1:33understand intuitively relate to a deeper reality and purpose
- 1:39than they recognize in their outer consciousness.
- 1:43There are documented cases of people experiencing a sense of a
- 1:47beloved relative at the moment of death on a battlefield.
- 1:50On the other side of the world, there are numerous instances of
- 1:55remote viewing, and elite military units in Russia and the
- 1:59USA have in fact worked on developing powers of this type
- 2:04as military weapons. Energetic healing modalities
- 2:09have gained enormous popularity due to their effectiveness both
- 2:13in their own right and as an adjunctive therapy to allopathic
- 2:18treatments to help mitigate side effects and pain and speed
- 2:22healing. Hypnotism has been used in lieu
- 2:26of anesthetic, in some cases quite successfully.
- 2:31The connection between mind and body has been validated, and the
- 2:35ability of the mind to aid in the healing process is no longer
- 2:39seriously contested. Another sign that occult powers
- 2:45can influence things in the external world, Doctor de Lal
- 2:50notes quote When people think of latent powers, especially in the
- 2:56East, they often think of occult powers mentioned a little
- 2:59earlier. There are different attitudes
- 3:02both in the West and the East towards such powers.
- 3:06In the West, where such powers are generally called psychic
- 3:09abilities, the majority of people look upon them with
- 3:13skepticism, attributing belief in them to credulity and
- 3:17gullibility. However, a growing number of
- 3:21Westerners do believe in the veracity of abilities claimed by
- 3:25the psychics, such as the ability to obtain information
- 3:29through extracentratory perception, to affect objects
- 3:34and persons from a distance, to heal by invisible means, and the
- 3:38like. Despite their erratic nature,
- 3:42such abilities have been sporadically employed in
- 3:46numerous fields, including medicine and dentistry,
- 3:50psychotherapy and counseling, police work, agriculture,
- 3:54archaeology, and many others. End Quote.
