A powerful storm hit Michigan’s Upper Peninsula earlier this week, triggering a tornado warning for Alger County on Tuesday, June 30th. Radar showed dangerous rotation, and a National Weather Service survey team is now on the ground in Trenary and Rapid River areas to confirm if a tornado actually touched down — a rare event for the region, with the last one occurring in 2020. If confirmed, it would be the first since then. The storm also brought massive hail — up to 1.5 inches in Trenary — and damage is concentrated south of Trenary.
