- Ranch Wives: A full kitten was out and birthed on my bed on my brand new bedding. Okay, what what happened to you? Pip, my cat? Yeah. La Hussey. She thought it was a great idea at two AM this morning to lay between me and Keith and have kittens. Okay. So here he is. Okay. He's little. So Pip had kittens on my bed between laying between Keith and I at 2 a.m. this morning. I kid you not. So I like roll over. Sorry, I had to figure this off my chest. I ain't slept. I roll over. Yeah. And I hear like this, that little as I roll over. And Keith all of a sudden like wakes up. He heard it too. He heard it too. wow. But what woke him up was she was like spinning in circles. Yeah. And like kept putting her butt in his face. Essentially, is what's happening. And so then I'll I'll bring it to your mom in a minute. So then, I'm like, my gosh. And Keith's like, frickin' Pip. I was like, Pip, are you kidding me? Like, she A full kitten was out. A full kitten was out and birthed on my bed on my brand new bedding. Br white bedding. No. Brand new. By the time we figured it out, it was like by the time we like got orientated and figured out got lights, like figured it out. The second one was half coming. So we're trying to get like towels under her. I made her this wonderful spot for her not to I was gonna say calve, but have kittens on my room or in my sheet them on the couch last time. Yeah. Don't recommend. Anyways, we've six new kitties, four boys and two girls. This one's my favorite. They're really cute though. And I'm not supposed to name but this guy's pretty cute. You got a mustash Does Keith tell you that? Yeah. How many cats do you have? Two now. that's good. Just Pip and Walter. You can have mistachio. Squeak gone. Squeak is gone. Squeak is gone. We'll keep mustachio. Jorim can cut for you. I can we know we cut Walter. Pip, Pip is the problem. Yeah. She's a little hussy. Okay, I'm gonna put this guy back This is the same cat that last year like set her up in the back bedroom because we knew that she was gonna she was like yallowing and so I knew she was gonna have kittens. She crawled up the wall through the like two closets that connect up, up through the closet, dropped through the boot room closet, got the door open. my had them on my couch. And I had this sneaky suspicion she's gonna be wild because she's the worst. So I I laid like a an old cover down. Yeah. Thank goodness I did. And then she like the other thing too is I was like, this cat is so loud when she gives birth. Yeah. The first time she wouldn't shut up. Yeah. But now she's like a pro mom. Now she's a pro mom and didn't make a single sound until that kitten was like I'm also a kid, like not a huge cat person. Yeah. I have cats because I don't like mice. Right. I didn't want inside cats, but we got a dog door for the Moo Dog. Moo Dog would hold the door open and they'd crawl through her belly. And so now the cats come inside. Here we are. Do the cats can they open the door on their own? Now they can. Okay, yeah. Yep, it's great. That's awesome. I love that. shout out to Mariah. Hey. Who listens every Thursday. She told me she waits to clean her house just for Thursdays. Yes. We love it. We love it. We love an avid listener. She loves the longer episodes too. Okay, good, because it gives you more time to clean. Yeah, exactly. Ten out ten. I'm also like that though. I will save certain podcasts for my like house cleaning days. Yes. And or when I like know that I have a project that I don't want to do. Yes. I'll save a podcast that I like enjoy listening to. Yeah, totally. Ten out of ten. Okay, shout out Mariah Shout out Wesley for also Wes buddy. That's funny. I was like, so I took photos for a wedding like a couple weekends ago. And then these these people were like at this wedding and they're Your podcast. And I was like, my god. Me? In the wild? Who me? my goodness. That's so funny. Okay, so funny. Because it was people that you were friends with too growing up. Yeah. So if you were to ask Wes when he met me when we were, I don't know, grade three. Yeah. If he would have thought I was a rancher's wife or doing anything that I'm doing today, he would have been like, absolutely. No. He can he can text in what he thought I would be doing versus what I'm doing. And I bet you it was it's not on the mark. That would be He would have never guessed, I guarantee it. yeah, no. Me too though. Yeah, fair enough. Hey, you know what though? I was thinking about this. For be for being like as I feel like I'm the most like girly girl of the three of us. For sure. Yeah. I will pick up a snake and hold it. Yeah. I don't like snakes. There's so many people that don't like snakes. Not a snake gal. And I don't mind snakes. Like a big snake? It was a garter snake. No. Disgusting. They stink. Well, they always pee on you. That's disgusting. I will shove my hand shoulder deep up a cow. Figure out what's going on. She could be not cleaned out and close to septic. I'd rather do that than touch a snake. Really? Not that I wish a septic cow on anybody. I r I personally rebuke that, but like if I had to pick between the two, or like I would pop something on a c like, you like But I know so many people that hate snakes, so then I make like I take selfies with snakes. Then that actually is disgusting. I will do some gross things, that ain't it. So I'm kind of tough. You're doing great. She's killing it. Killing it. Killing it. So what's this week's episode now that we've got completely derailed about my kittens and our shout outs. Okay, I wanted to do a couple like old farmers like superstitions, sayings, myth or true. Like if we think that these are true or not, or if we've even heard of some of these before. Okay. We use good old chat to come up with I have a couple, but then I use chat. I did find two that I I know off topic. Okay, okay. Okay, but go ahead. Okay. Number one. Red sky at night, Shepherd's Delight, Red Sky in the morning, Shepherd's Warning. I grew up as like a on the West Coast girly. Like we would go to Prince Rupert fishing. So it was Sailor's Delight and Sailor's Warning. But I think that's true. Yep. I agree with this one. I do agree with this one. Except for I never notice a a red morning. Yeah, well, because the sun rises at 3 a.m. Yeah. Yeah, that's true. In this in September, I remember like when I would go to school, get up for the bus. Yeah. Some mornings were like red, really red. Yes. But did I ever think about that? No. No, because it wouldn't have mattered. So this year I want to like keep an eye on it and see if it Okay, tell me how that works out for you. If you're getting up early enough for that. Are you an early riser? No. Mm mm. Mm. Are you early to bed or are you a night owl? I'm a night owl. I'm like a I like to be in bed by nine nine thirty, ten. Not that that's been happening. I'm like eleven ideal. Like asleep by eleven or like in your bed by eleven? Well, in bed by ten. asleep by eleven. Okay. That's fair. And then my kids wake me up whatever time that is. I'm not the one who like, I'm gonna wake up and have my coffee. Which girl, get it. Not you. Go for it. Do it. Not me. I think in the experience that when we've got like the nieces and nephews over and we've had them overnight, I'm on up before they Really. Wake, but I'm also like that in general. Like I am more of a morning person than Keith. But Keith, that man loves breakfast. He he's breakfast duty at my house. Yeah. His house, breakfast duty. Yeah. That's his role. I'll just come over for breakfast. Yeah, he can do a killer breakfast. Okay, I have another one. this is interesting. Okay. if the cows go in, rain will be short lasting. If they stay out, it's going to be rain a while. Have you heard this one? No. In my mind it seems like it would be oposite. Hmm. Mm. I think I might have to disagree with this one. Because generally when a storm's coming, cows go to the bush cow . And my dogs hide under anything they can find. Okay, one of our the oldest guardian dog that we have, the the male, terrified. Of storms, like to the point he will come home with his collar going off, shaking and like fully vibrating, and you cannot convince him. He won't stay at his trailer. He normally we don't have a problem with him staying where he needs to be. You cannot convince him if it's storming outside to be anywhere but under my house. Cats and dogs hate storms. I mean don't mind? No. I mean could care less. my dogs are like No, could care less. yeah. No, to the point where like Has dug up like you know like the gravel that goes up against your like house pilings, whatever. Like the skirting. He's dug up and got in under that. Keith was blaming my cats for that. They're my cats when they're a problem, by the way. Everything is mine. But anyways, no no. It was his dogs. Them big dogs. my he done dig up in there. Okay, that's no, that's a garbage one. Okay, on this if cows are laying down, rain is coming. So I'm like, cows kinda like if it's evening time? A lot of the times a cow like lay down. Yeah, if they they just like be chewing their cud. Laying down, chewing their cud when it's hot. So I haven't correlated that at all. Hmm. Okay, I don't have that one. Okay, a full moon means it's time to calve. Because more calves are born then. I have heard that. Is it true? You know what? I haven't tested for cows, but my sister in law works in maternity. Full moon. And she says full moon, there's more babies. okay not on the same topic? But when my stepdad used to firefight, the busiest nights were full moon. Like and like bad. It was full moon yesterday. No, today is full moon. I don't know. Is it the twenty ninth? Today is full moon. I'm gonna drive really slow on the way home. Yeah, I don't know. Don't have that. Full moon people go crazy. Like my kids have been nuts. Yeah. I don't have any of that really. But I believe it 'cause I used to see like he used to get called out and the calls were worse. The only time I would say like calving for us gets crazy and maybe I've just never correlated, it might have to be for a next year thing. Yeah. Is storms. Storms, yeah, storms. They be coming out sure. Just it's gonna be four feet of snow let's just calve write in the bush But all calves and beside each other. Yeah. And don't know whose calf is who. Yeah. Love that. Yeah. No, I don't can't do that one. make hay while the sun shines. This seems relevant to the season. Yes, obviously. Take advantage of good conditions while they last, is what it says. Well duh. And where else are you making Or we don't hay on Sundays. Even if it's a beautiful day and it's gonna rain on Monday, we do not Touch the fields. Don't touch it. I think that's good. We're still working towards that, When swallows fly low, rain is on the way. What's with all these rain ones? I didn't hear that before. There's so many rain ones. My mom would say, like, when all the leaves flat go upside down, rain is on the way. That's what her dad said. Her dad was a farmer. that's like all the leaves will turn. Yeah. And that means rain is coming. Okay, I have not heard that one. have you heard though? This might be a superstition over like a saying. Okay, okay. if a chicken, a prairie chicken, yeah, goes to the top of a tree, it's snowing. It's gonna be snowing in the next Like snow is coming. That's interesting. I mean I had a per that was that spring, so maybe there was snow after that and I didn't realize. Yeah. Yeah. Like to the top, not just like to a tree, like two as high as they can get in the tree. Huh. The snow is coming. Okay. Fun fact there you go. Okay. Okay, on the same note of chickens. Don't count your chickens before they're hatched. I've heard that. Me too. That's like a just like a saying. But it so what is that don't assume success until it's certain is what that means. Yeah. Which is fair. That one's valid. If the rooster crows at an unusual time, visitors are coming. They have a different crow for when visitors are coming though. Well, like visitors isn't like you got a you got a fox in your coop or what do you mean? Yeah. yeah. That's what I would think. yeah, y if they're crowing off at like three AM, you got problems. Yeah. Okay, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make drink. You know what? At our branding, Jorm did that. I'm pretty sure he led his horse to the water trough and his horse was like, this is dumb. But Lacey's daughter led her horse over there and she drank. So Huh. Apparently. No, so what it's meant to say is you can offer helper opportunity, but you can't force someone to take it. Hmm. Okay, I kinda like that though. Interesting. Okay, what else you got? A cow licking her nose means rain is coming. Cows licking They lick her nose all the time. I actually my gosh, we should tag this but I found these cute little rings, and it's like a cow with its finger or with its tongue up its nostrils. It's that's the ring, and they're so cute. It's like a big ring like this, probably, but it's cute. I love it. That's super cute. It's cast in. Thunder in winter means a late spring. I have heard. What have heard? Like if you have whore frost, then it's like eight weeks later spring is coming or something like that. We always get whore frost like December, January, I feel like. Okay. And then there's like a there's like a timing correlation to spring. No, I've not heard this. Ouch. Or rain or something. Does your husband do the f do you guys buy the farmer's almanac? No. But I would love to. Because a lot of So in the farmer's almanac it talks about like weaning dates. Yeah. Like when you should wean your cows and stuff like that. That also, moms, works for kids. So they say you you should potty train on those days. What? And you should like take away a soother on those days. What what is it s I've never read one? I think it's a moon phase thing. Okay. Seems kind of I think yeah witchcrafty. I don't know. I believe in the moon phase though. Well some of it, yeah. Because like yeah, like full moon is like crazy. Crazy. Huh. Yeah. That's interesting. So look into it. Yeah. So I for run around potty training my daughter, I think I Googled like when is the weaning date closest weaning date? Farmer's already around that. Yeah, farmer's almanac. Ha. That's interesting. I've never heard that. Yeah. I'd be curious about that though. It's not interest. Why just because it's easier going? Yeah, I think so. I don't know. Ours is so like, there's not gonna be 10 feet of snow. it's not gonna be minus three. Let's go. Yeah, we don't do it for cows, but I'd be curious about that. Yeah. Speaking of which, we need to put our bulls out this week. You guys are so tight. We can actually talk about this. Me and you had a very interesting discussion around bulls and like timing. We could probably do a full episode. We all be doing this very differently. Yeah. We need Lace back for this. yeah, okay. We should say, I think we said in our last episode. Yes. But in case you miss it and you're just tuning in, there is normally Lacey. She's gone on a family emergency. Hopefully she'll be back soon with us. Yes. But until then, like this is what. So yeah. You can skip these if you don't like just us. Yeah, like if if it's not the vibe, we get it. No hard feelings. We understand. There should be three of us. Yes. But when did you put your bulls in? Have you done it? July ninth. Yep. We pull September twenty sixth. Okay. So what is that? How many weeks is that? Eleven weeks. Well, do you want to know when we used to do your cows are catching at ten and eleven weeks? Like it's not worth it Okay, so here's the I asked about this. We can get into this. The topic of this was is rather have a calf than nothing. Here's the deal. I will say we've gotten better and we've tightened it up because we used to pull them on the 10th of October. Yeah, that's too late. Very late. And it was cold and we were rushing. Yeah. No time because we process our calves the same day we pull our bulls Right. So the thought Okay, so you're pushing it back. We are pushing, but you can't that's the thing. You can't just like unless we cycle sync everything. Yeah. Which we don't, because we don't give any extra shots. No. You kind of just have to push it. four or five three five days three to five days. Yeah. Each time. We pushed it ten days the first time 'cause we literally I can't remember if it was bad weather or something. Like something was different. Yeah. But we went from like the tenth or the seventh to like the first of October kind of thing. Like I can't remember why. Okay. Correct me if I'm wrong, Jorim. But I think Jorim said I'm gonna have to call him and ask him. Cows in his experience that have caught on the third cycle don't get pregnant the next year. I've only had that with two old cows. Okay. But that isn't to say that's not necessarily true. Two old cows that I know of for sure. Yeah. One of them, another one was a chronic every other year. She'd calve one year. This is a long horn that I was telling you about that granddad loved. Yeah. With a nice set of horns. Right. She would calve one year. Miss the second, calve the next. Okay. and she was a late cycler. But consistently late. She was never early in the whole time I checked, she never had one first. She and I think if I could maybe remember her number, she might have had one in the end of the second. But then you're also pushing back your preg checking and everything like that too. But we don't preg check till we wean anyways. Yeah. And we just started preg checking. I don't disagree. Here's the thing. I agree that we need to tighten it up. I would love to tighten it up. I can see the point on the fact of being as long as they breed back, which in our case we've had good luck since we've been preg checking. Yeah. And tracking. That hasn't been the case prior to the last two years. Right. Like I have tracked. Yeah. But as for preg check, whatever, I couldn't tell you. But for us as grain farmers, we literally do not have the time. To spend eleven weeks calving. Like we need to have a hundred percent our calves out and on the ground. Eight weeks. Yeah. Eight weeks. Eight. Whatever. Whatever it is. But like so for example, like we had the first hundred and sixty or hundred and fifty calves. We had the first hundred and fifty calves on the first cycle this year. In the first month. But it's crazy that you texted us like What was it? Like two weeks ago, and you're like, our last one just calved And I was like, why? Why do you do Also so overbaked because even for when we pulled the bulls she was s nine days over. And that calf was huge. We pulled they had to use the crank on her. Yeah. They ain't having to use the crank in a long time. But like you're going into haying. Yep. So like why do you We also don't normally we're also like two to three weeks behind you guys on hay. Normally, yeah. This is the earliest we've cut since I've been out here. maybe one. Start in August. Yeah, like last week of we're normally starting like this last week. We're always starting like second week of July. Yeah. So in that sense it's a bit. But we also don't get into our fields till we didn't get our crop until what June. You guys are later too. Twentieth? Yeah. Which is like crazy. Pretty late. That's like way too late for that. I would like to s I would like to tighten up calving. I understand why we're doing it slowly because we're cause the other thing too, it's like if we culled everything That didn't catch. That didn't catch, plus what we have that's already on the bad teet list or like bad bag, whatever. Already on the cull list. Yeah. It's like part of your herd. And I mean it's and because for the most part, we don't we don't seem to have nearly as many issues as soon as our cows get to grass. I know we've totally derailed from what we're talking about. But we don't like this that's the first pull we've had since they've been on grass. Yeah. Hard pull not ideal. She's definitely should have been. Which is why we do well, we calve later than you guys. We start later than you guys. And we're done before you guys. Yes. We're still working on that. Like we're like three weeks behind you. The year. And we've been done calving for like yeah. two months. Okay, on the preg checking thing, I might have mentioned this in a different episode, I can't remember. The lady that preg checked for us was not great. Not great. Which is crazy 'cause every time they've come out on preg check for us, they've been really good. Do you know what doctor I'm talking about? No. We have six letter open that did not miscarry Really? We my gosh! No, I have to tell you something. This is so on the topic of bulls, on the topic of price of bulls, all these things, and when we pull our bulls. Okay. We just put ours out. Where they were, our main herd was still in grazing tenure. We try not to do them in grazing tenure for the first month because that's when we've had the best calving. We just couldn't it was just the way the grazing worked out. Whatever, kind of just the way it fell. They're in grazing tenure for three days. Yeah. Then they went over to like about Field slash bush area. Okay. Also not ideal. We want like open field. In my opinion, first month, month and month to six weeks, open field. We couldn't swing it, whatever, we put him 35. We lost a bull. Didn't just didn't. bulls so finicky. Didn't come home. So Keith spent like days. He's probably missing gone. Can't we have not seen him? Did you post on like a Facebook? No, no, hold on. No w there's no w nobody's around us. That's a th that's Crown land yeah. So like if if he was up by our neighbors where our young animals were, then yeah, I would have been like, hey, yeah. Anybody you gotta you know? No. But he was in the Crown land He's in the crown. Bumming around. So we're we've look Keith has spent hours looking for him. He's walked the trails, he's been on the like on the quad through the trails, like through the bush, can't find him. Search 35. I search 35, all these things. Couldn't find him And I was like, man, we Keith's like, well, I don't know. I think we're gonna have to hire somebody with a thermal drone. Yeah. To like see if we can search it. And I was like, yeah, because you know what? Even if we paid three, four grand, heck, even five grand. I mean, I it's not cheap. I don't think it's cheap to hire those things. That's still half the cost of that bull Yeah. At five grand, that barely breaks half that bull Yeah. So you might as well do that. Thankfully, we were just talking about hey. Like, is this our option? Who can we call about this? Yeah. Kind of thing. He turns up. I kid you not. We go to check. I had checked that I just put salt in with those cows. Yeah. That morning. I drove around, looked for him, couldn't find him. Drove the. How many days was he gone? Mmm. Well, we haven't seen him since we put him out to grazing tenure. Right. First. But for sure. You are gonna need 11 weeks if he's gone for most of it. Well, flip. Like golly. So we haven't seen him in three weeks. How long he's actually been down for is up for debate. We found him on the north end of section two. He was there. He was just on the wrong side of the electric fence. He's but he had foot rot. You can tell because his foot's still swell. He's not limping, but his foot was still a bit swollen. So we know but we couldn't find him to treat him. We assumed that that's what happened. Yeah. Anyways, he just showed up and I was like, my god, me and Keith both, I kid you not. We at each other, I like, praise the Lord. Thank goodness. Yeah. That he showed back up because those numbers are already tight. yeah. You can't just dun have gone. No. You can't just buy a another bull right now. Yeah. Where are you getting one? Like And it's not like insurance is going to cover that. you can't find him? Yeah. Like that's n that's actually not how that works. Yeah. Wild. Not how that works. Yeah. So yeah, he just showed up. Put him back in the electric fence. He's like, What? It's like, hey guys. I said to Kid I like, I mean Not that numbers like super matter, but out of those two Trask bulls he he was them that was a good one. We like that's nice one. We like that one. We like them. We really love them both, but we really liked him a lot. Yeah. come back, please. Please come back. So here's my bones of this. I got bones to pick on this. I next year want to avoid grazing tenure for the first six weeks. Yeah. And I am pretty much willing to stretch a lot of things to keep them out of the bush. Yeah. Because we have foot rot problems. Yeah. So you guys always have foot rot. This is interesting though. This year, our young herd up on my brother in law's place. Yeah. Three of them came out with foot rot. We've never had them come out with foot rot there. Three came out with foot rot. One had foot rot last year, so I think to be honest, I think he's just prone to it. Yeah. Unfortunately, as bad as that sounds, I think he is just we've treated him. We've done all the right things for it. Yeah. He just came up with foot rot and he was good again. So I've treated three bulls for foot rot it's just cause it's so wet back then. it's it's a it's a swamp. Yeah. Like cause they're crossing through the mud to get to like the little patches that they can graze. depends on the year because we've had a couple dry years and my brother in law's place wasn't a problem. But it's pretty wet back there now. Yeah. It's pretty muddy. But it's not the thing is is like when they're grazing in bush, they're not just in the mud. No. But it just seems to be like enough moisture with the right issue. It's like the right combination. Yeah, the right combination of bacteria. I guess I don't know. I'm assuming it's bacterial thing. I don't know. Whatever it is. But we're just talking to I can't remember if it was one of the guys that sold us the bulls out of Athabasca, the Oles Okay. I can't remember. I I feel like it's them. I think there's a sh you can get a vaccine for foot rot. Really? So I don't think we would necessarily do our whole herd, but I would be willing to then would it be a viral thing? Or what I don't know. Like how does that and see this is this is the confusing. The whole vaccine side of cattle Not bacterial. Yeah. I don't know how it works and thus the vaccine side of cows Is questionable to me. Like I'm kinda some of it seems pretty hokey pokey. Yeah. I'm not gonna lie on how it works. I don't really understand it. And I'm not necessarily against it or for it. I think there's certain things we do because that's what you do. We only do one vaccine. It's Black leg right? Yeah. But it's the five way. So it covers because that's the live vaccine, right? So it covers it's not the live. You guys don't do it live? It's not the live. No. So we have done live in the past. So is it called the Ten? Yeah, maybe. because there's a vaccine that's the same, but one's live and one's dead. Okay, so it's the dead, it's the ten. Because we don't have to mix it. Yeah, so it's the ten then. Yeah. So we used to do that. We switched to the live. Yeah, now we we used to do live and now we switch to that. Okay, I'm curious if you think there's anything different with it. That's a Jorim question. Yeah, that's fair. We do that one for our cows. And then we just do meloxicam for when you brand. Yeah. Yeah. That's it. We just do the one. We do another one. We used to do more, but then Jorims like, this seems dumb because there's the one Tazvax eight. Is that for like flies and stuff? No, that's Ivermectin. Okay, yeah. We we're like, no, there's no point in doing that. Yeah, I have a whole thing on that. That's it. I could do a whole I could actually probably do a whole episode on this. You can get into it with Jorim I could no no, Ina, I think we'd actually side very similarly. No, I think so. Keith and I are very much similar page on some of this. Yeah. Dad's not quite there yet. And in his defense, he's seen some pretty gnarly things come through. Yeah. I I just don't necessarily But we haven't had problems ever since we stopped using some of these vaccines. See, and that is my next question is had problems. So my two milk cows, I can share this because they're my cows. I don't do anything with them. Yeah. They've never gotten anything. That's a lie. Jaws would have got something when she was a calf because she was a bottle baby, she should have been sold. Right. That was the only time she got anything. I don't she doesn't get anything. Neither of them do. And neither will the calf that is on. that I will tend to malcol and I they have not had issues. Yeah. I've not had foot rot, I haven't had pink eye, I haven't had pneumonia, I haven't had anything. No. Nothing. And my flies aren't as bad on either of them. Cause the dung beetles Okay, do we wanna get into this? I would love I could get into it if I'm ready. I could get into this. Like black leg is a legitimate issue out in your guys' area. Yeah. As far as I know, it hasn't been like a a major thing over here. Out here. But then it's like, is it because everybody's vaccinating for it? Is it because everybody's vaccine? But black leg comes from the soil. It's a soil issue. It's a soil issue. It's kinda like scours. You can get scours, it's a soil issue. We had one year where we were making up So like everybody had scours. yeah. We had a really bad scours year. Yeah. And it was just crazy. I bought a ton of salt and like we were making our own electrolytes. Electrolytes. Yeah. So that the year that those fires came through, yeah. We had a bunch of people come out and help, which was great. We're pretty sure something got brought in. Right. Some equipment or whatever. Something. I don't know. The scours that year were Like we'd never seen before to the point that might have been the same year as us. Very possible, yeah. Because I think we were living at the farm and that's when you guys had your big fire. Yeah. So the vet had said she thought it wasn't the normal case of scours. Like there was viral and something else. I can't remember the name. She was like, Whatever this is isn't what you guys have dealt with in the past. Interesting. so yeah. Anyways, back to the whole bull and foot rod thing. I'd be willing to give a shot if If I understood it that I'd like to do more research because And give just like twenty five percent of your herd shots or no, I don't no, I just wanna give my bulls just I don't wanna because because if they go down in the back foot, they're not breeding because they can't mount. That to me, if it works and depending h what this like why it works, like what it is, I would be curious about because Have you talked to a vet about it at all? No, because the vet that I got on the phone Is a vet that I was not very helpful. We just don't have I just don't have very nice things to say to this vet sometimes. So I just choose not to deal with this vet and we'll wait for a call back from a different vet. Okay, yeah, yeah. That's just my personal that's just our relationship. That's fine. There's nothing against her. We just you know what? I find that happens a lot in like especially a small town. Like we only have two vets in our town. And it's very like people have their opinions. Like, I only go to this vet, I only go to this vet. Yes. It's very But we only have one large animal vet. We only have like one large animal clinic. Clinic. One clinic. There's four vets. There's a new vet in town. that helped us when we had that predator. issue. The one that s yeah sliced that calf open. She was really good. I quite liked her. I dealt with her when I called in for foot rot and she was really good to deal with. Interesting. Something I see small animal? Large animal. She might do both, but she's dealt with our large animals. I haven't heard of this. I cannot remember her name to even give it to you. I'd have to look it up on one of the things that we have. really like her though. Interesting. Haven't had her for much. I've had two experiences with her. That's all I can say to that. Yeah. but yeah, I do think it's like it is hard when you only have like one large animal vet because then it's like You're in. And then you also, I think you get accustomed to the vets that you have. You get a working relationship with one vet, or like Yeah, and then they send another one and you're like, whoa. You're not my vet. You're not my vet. Yeah. Well, it's one of those things. Like even Keith, when we had some blood work done and like there's some questions he had asked, he wanted the vet that we deal with that's been out here for Yeah, totally ninety nine percent of things because she knows our herd, she knows our operation. Yeah. But she's also experienced some of the complications that we've had or things that we've seen and she's like, I would actually it might be a little bit off that I would do this instead. Yes, we've had that like The one thing I really like about our vet is like Jorim will text them a picture. And then they're like, yeah, you don't need to bring it in. Just do this. Yeah. I'm like, okay, that's really nice. Yeah. Whereas some other vets might be like, bring it in and let's look. Yeah. It's like, no, just send a picture. I had a thing with my cat. Send a picture. Yeah, they were like, just send a picture and then they're like, yeah, you need this drug or whatever. Well that's like when I got Moodog spade. Yeah. The like sutures weren't coming out and they were like it was weird. Gnarly. Like pretty gnarly. There was two. Like at the top of her incision. I was like, well, that's not. Yeah. Because they're like, they just all put it on. I like, okay. They weren't. And I like, something is not. So you took a picture and sent it? Well, because I got it done at the sm the main small animal vet in town because they had like a who the adoption center I bought her through, that's who they dealt with. okay. So that's what I took her to. And so I like, Hey, like this is what's going on. Can I send you a picture? 'Cause I think I can just cut these out. Like it's been it'd been like ages since she'd been spayed. no, you have to come in. Have you met my farm dog? She hates coming to town. our dog will not put a collar on. Like if you put a leash on our dog, he just like lies down and is like. Don't know what to do. Yeah, I don't was and I don't want to bring her to the vet if you guys are gonna if you were gonna take scissors and cut them out like I can do it. I'm just gonna do it. So I sent him to the one that we do for large animals. Yeah. And I was like, hey, like I know this generally isn't your guys' scope for us, but like I've got these in the That tech calls. We should say, Yeah, you just cut it out. Yeah, you got the go at. She said they just weren't see I really properly done and that's why they didn't dissolve. They weren't deep enough in, they didn't dissolve correctly. Right. Like whatever. My husband just texts. He said, Yeah, things are taking a little bit longer. That code for like you need I don't have a radio on. Yeah. No it's generally not great if he's texting. Yeah. But it doesn't say like well, it doesn't have my full name first of all. Yeah, when I know it's like serious, it's my full name. really? He don't use that very often? Jorim does not use my full name ever. Probably had it once over a text and it was like the cows were in the barnyard and I didn't have my phone on. Yeah. And he was headed to work and they were running down the road. yeah. I got my full name that day. We don't that's not really a thing. Yeah, no. I don't get my full name ever. I hate that. Like Jorim never calls me by my name. I hate it. Ever. I hate that. And the only time I say Jorim is like here. Here. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's funny, hey. anyways. Like it sounds normal, but if I was to say like hey Jorim to him, he would be like Are you okay? What? Ugh. Don't do that. That's gross. I know what you're doing. Don't do that. Yeah. Not that. Not that. I don't know what that is. That ain't a Yeah. Anyways. In the sense of I love talking about bulls In case you've noticed, it's probably my favorite topic My allergies are so bad. it's Hay season they're probably the worst. The flowers be bugging you? Flowers. There's not even a she wiped up the kittens. the kittens. Yeah. Everything bothers me. I'm allergic to a lot of things. Gets get get in on that honey. I do. I promise you it makes a difference. It does. Okay, have you heard this? This goes in back into our rerail this train. Let's go. Allegedly. Okay, I'm allergic to cats. Yeah. But I I'll like get a kitten and be very allergic for like a month and a half. And then my body actually like builds up an immunity and then I'm fine after that. Okay. So like my three cats, I'm not allergic to any of them. But I was. But my cats you'd be allergic to if you don't have the immunity tools. Right, right, right. Anyways, off topic. Apparently if your cat if you have a cat like in with chickens, yeah, then there's like an enzyme or there's something that the chickens will lay in their eggs that if you have allergies to cats, that helps like build an immunity to cat allergies if you have a cat hanging out with your chickens. well. Walter hangs out with my chickens all the time. Yeah. You want a couple dozen eggs? You wanna try Yeah. Really? Yeah, he's always out with I've heard this. I don't I don't know if it's true. I don't know if you can even track like I don't know how you would track that or what maybe. Yeah, like how long can your kids test it? Yeah, or like how how long would the cat have be in with your chickens but to be like a thing or Like it lives like inside the barn with your chickens? Like is that what it means? Or like it can roam around? I don't know. Anyways, that's another thing I've heard. That's interesting. I've not heard that. Yeah. Huh. Okay, wait, actually I think there's a wife's tail on the or like a hold on. Let me scroll. I think I find There's a wives tale about cats. Hold on, let's see if we can find it. Okay. if you see geese flying south early, expect an early winter. Yeah, that tracks. Letting the cat out of the bag is a whole lot easier than putting it back in. Valid. no, there was one I thought. Morning dew means fair weather for the rest of the day. Ooh. I mean, yeah. A lot of weather things. Mine are not mine or a lot of animal things. When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty. The company you keep influences you. Good fences make good neighbors. Plant potatoes on Good Friday for the best crop. Good Friday. We can't do that here. It's still pretty snowy. this is us. Welcome. Welcome to our life. This is us. This is just how we are. All right, guys. Yeah. I got I got no more wives' tales. I'm not very I was not very good at that one. No, that's fine.
