[upbeat music] Top of the hill. Hey. Hey. Hey, Bart.
• 0:18
Hey, it's, uh, we're doing something different today- [laughs]... this week because, uh- Okay 'Cause we are... it's Full Spectrum Cycling, folks. Uh, we're starting at the top of the hill, though, on account of the...
• 0:27
[cans opening] [laughs] On account... [laughs] These are huge cans of beer, so- I was not prepared... we just had to, uh, maybe- They're growlers... it's a cri- a c- It's a growler... crawler It's a quarter growler.
• 0:40
Yes, dear... but it's also a can, so isn't it a, a s- something that- A can growler... a crawler It's delicious. Just wait and see... crawler. Uh, so we're gonna start on the big ass can of beer. Ass can [laughs]
• 0:53
Uh, from The Gathering Place, right? Yeah. Yep. You know what? The Gathering Place is only, like, a block and a half away from here, and guess what? It's not even a block. There is another brewery between- I know...
• 1:04
here- I'm gonna-... and Gathering Place, right? [laughs] Which we'll have to wait and see, 'cause I'm, I'm h- I'm hopeful they're gonna be good, but they sound really weird. Well, Steve said they're good.
• 1:13
I don't know if that- Well, Steve's a... He, he drinks beer, so he probably knows. Yeah, he said you're gonna like it. Maybe Oh, it's gonna be handy having them- Wait, wait... right on property, basically... wait, wait.
• 1:21
You might need to get a beer- Why-... on the way to get a beer... why haven't we asked- Right? On the way back as well... Steve on the podcast yet? Uh, well, to be fair- To be fair...
• 1:29
we are starting at some point, Steve and I, a West River Collective podcast which will have everybody that is in this building on it at some point. Oh, cool.
• 1:38
'Cause there's a lot going on in here, and the s- city of MKE needs to know how cool all this stuff is in here and- Cool... and such and such.
• 1:47
And I was like, well, you know, this room that we've got is, uh, there's a lot of activity around it. Remember that, uh- Yeah...
• 1:56
remember the, the, the [laughs] the whirling dervish of a, uh- [laughs] What was that thing? The, uh, the Shop-Vac lesson? The Shop-Vac, yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The high powered Shop-Vac. Yeah, yeah.
• 2:04
The highest powered- Yeah, so-... little engine that could... well, we're not quite com- we're not soundproof in here, for sure.
• 2:09
So he's, he says, "Well, how about we use the office above the brewery in the other building right next door to us?" Have you ever been up there? Yeah, it's c- yeah, I had a lot. It's major kickass. It's gorgeous.
• 2:19
I'm like, well, this is the best idea I've heard recently, so. It sounds like it is. We'll see how it goes. I just, I feel like maybe he wants to rent that whole thing out to somebody [laughs] instead of just us. Yeah.
• 2:30
That's too, way too much space for just us. It's big. It is. It's, well, it's nice. And it's well done. But- And, and it actually is, we could isolate in there. Right. I don't...
• 2:40
You know, so I'm gonna interrupt because- But you do need to tell us about the beer at least... what we have here is a, uh, we each got a growler, 'cause I found out tonight that it's $6 growlers- Ah...
• 2:51
at Gathering Place Brewing. Huh. And I happened to, while w- So it's, it's-... waiting to get other beers, not this growler- Is this a half a- I happened-... growler, or? It is a half a growler. Half a growler.
• 3:03
Yeah, huh. 32 ounces. It sure as heck- I, I happened to-... isn't 66 cents though, is it?... ask, you know, "Can I have a pint?" No, it's not. "Can I have a pint of Things We Don't Say?"
• 3:15
And I tasted my pint of Things We Don't Say, and I immediately returned to the bar and said, "I need three growlers." Actually, I wanted a growler. You don't say. And the, the- But you did say...
• 3:29
beer tender of the night said, "You know, if you get three c- growlers it's a better deal." What a nice guy. So I ordered myself and you two fine middle-aged gentlemen- Yeah, look, I've got, I got patches on-...
• 3:44
a growler... I got patches on my- Patches... I got patches on my sweater elbows... it's a pretty delicious beer. [laughs] Yes, it is. It's very tasty. I mean, it is kinda brutal. It's 6%.
• 3:53
Yeah, that's, at this point in life, in what, things that we're- Yeah, that's sort of, that's sort of walking down the middle of the street right there. Yeah. I suppose. But so it says 11/3/21 on there.
• 4:03
Does that mean they actually did it while you waited, or did they just happen to can it today? He... No, it is a freshly... No, I ordered these and they are freshly... A growler is a freshly canned beer.
• 4:16
So they can do it on demand? It, yeah. You've not seen growler stations? You ever seen them? No. Oh, yeah. You need to look for growler stations. Oh, no. I'm a- Why haven't I seen these? I don't know.
• 4:24
30, 32 ounces of fresh beer. I- So basically this was a tap- Open up your eyes, Greg... a tap into a can, capped. But why not just do a growler with a screw-on top? 'Cause these are cans- Because these are-...
• 4:35
and are easier to carry... half the size. They're e- I guess they're easier to carry. Yep. And tonight they were cheaper. Well, there you go. Yeah. I guess that's a good thing. And it's not cans.
• 4:45
They- And it's easier than glass... Things We Don't Say. It's an im- what is it? A, what's a IP lager? What does that mean? I mean, I, it's sick to my family. It's good stuff, though, Maynard.
• 4:56
Actually, now, now that I've done the math, I should've got the growler, but whatever. Who cares? Your math skills need- We're, we're not good... need work. So this is, uh, uh, we,
• 5:08
Chewy just did a sh- we just posted a Chewy show, uh, B yesterday. And you should listen to it. Yeah. You really should l- it's pretty funny. It's, it's great.
• 5:14
And there's a lot of stuff about 66 cent beer on it, so to understand why somebody could sell beer for 66 cents, I guess you'll just have to listen to the show. But
• 5:26
check out Chewy's, Chewy's podcast number 12, or Chewy's Salon Chair number 12, or check it out, 'cause it's on the site and it's good. Wait. I've, I'm gonna vindicate myself.
• 5:35
This is way cheaper than buying a 28, 20- All right... a growler for $2 Do you have a... Are, are you doing ciphering on the old table there with the- Well, if you think about it, those two are a growler. Oh, yeah.
• 5:45
For sure. So. Right on. Okay, yeah. So thank you. Thank you. Hey, is the filling station still open down the block?
• 5:50
I, you know, they put some Halloween things in, but I guess the real question to that is who fucking cares? [laughs] I, I, I'm not going there anymore. It was a great idea, and I just, I don't like it.
• 6:00
It needs to be Albanese again. [laughs] Yeah, that's true. Or, or as Molly pointed out, greatest woman in the world, by the way, um- Uh, Oscars North. Hmm.
• 6:14
Yeah, they didn't do that great a job on the West version, in my opinion. Don't care. Let's do North. It's too close to the South version right now. Vanguard. Although they do make... It's hit or miss, that's all.
• 6:25
That, yeah, that's multitasking. Sometimes the egg's runny, sometimes it's not, and- Vanguard North... you know. Vanguard North. Wait, what? But if, but if they would- Vanguard North... Vanguard North 2 would be cool.
• 6:36
[laughs] And now that's opening up as the new Dino's. Fair enough. I'll take it. [laughs] Yeah, the food is very similar. Yeah. Well, yeah.
• 6:43
There's a whole lot of restaurant information going on lately, even though we're not a restaurant podcast. Comet's reopening. Yep, there's a lot of stuff coming and, and happening- On the old-... in the old Milwaukee...
• 6:54
the old Fuel Cafe is now- The Dirty Bird or- Uh- Bird... Daily Bird. Daily Bird. Apparent- apparently the coffee is just as crappy as what I hear. Well, then they'll sell- Service [laughs]...
• 7:03
then they'll make up their- Still lousy service... dollars. I don't, I can make my own coffee at home. I don't understand coffee shops. But whatever, that's just me. Right? But we'll- Ah, community... when she...
• 7:13
Yeah, fuck that. I'm- I think I... If we could- Where else can they, like, look at me writing my screenplay? I mean, come on. Tell us about your screenplay. Well, yeah, yeah, I have to do it in a coffee shop.
• 7:25
Well, right. Yeah. I can't do it at home. If you do it at home, it didn't happen. Yeah. It, it isn't a screenplay, it's a home play.
• 7:30
So I wonder if we could get a coffee shop in here, even though it, they made batteries in this building- Sure... for- I'm sure... the last 90 years. Do you think we can get? We're probably right now full of lead.
• 7:40
[laughs] I, well, yeah, when I go home and wash my hands and they're black, I'm like, huh, lead dust I guess probably. Yeah. Yeah.
• 7:45
Although, at my advanced age, I'm not sure it really is gonna do that much damage anymore. I'm already dumb. [laughs] Oh, boy. Hey, you know what's happening here in Milwaukee? It's freaking cold out there. Mm-hmm.
• 8:00
Actually had to turn the heat on in the building today. It's chill. Unbelievably chilly. I think it was a- 32 tonight I saw. Yeah. No, 29 tonight. Yeah, it's in the 20s at night, so. Jeez. I dunno.
• 8:12
Yes, the, the layering of writing has begun. Well, this is when- [laughs] See, this is when having an electric bike might not be that great, 'cause- Right... when you're having to- You're not working hard enough...
• 8:23
right, and you're also going faster, so that wind is really kinda cutting through pretty good. Great point. [laughs] Need to add that second part into it. You know what I wanna see?
• 8:31
I really think that somebody should come out with like electric bike-specific clothing. [laughs] You know, I've been getting- Shut up. Shut up. May the power of Chewy compel thee. Yeah, yeah. Shut the hell up.
• 8:44
Actually, actually I think Chewy's gonna start that up, 'cause he's gonna be like, "I hate those people- But I want to make a little more money off of it... but I'm gonna make this up.
• 8:51
I'm gonna make money off of that shit." [laughs] I am, you know, it's, I'm... [laughs] Oh, shit, I lost my train of thought. Never mind. Was it maybe the beer? It's in there. It's probably the beer.
• 9:02
Take a long- But I had a- I think it's in there... a, a longstanding thought about something that I, I will remember as I ride my bike home, and I'm sorry. Yeah. It would've been good for the podcast.
• 9:11
It would've been prudent- Oh... but it's not right now 'cause I've got a 32-ounce beer in my hand. [laughs] So, uh- It's delicious...
• 9:18
I think it was this past weekend, SEMA, the SEMA show, which I normally would've been working at by the way, and thanks COVID. Uh, the SEMA show, they had this Ford, vintage Ford, probably s- 70s F100. Yeah. Electric.
• 9:34
Electric. Was that thing cool or what? And- 465 horsepower... I think in a car you don't even need fancy clothes to drive an electric car, so, 'cause it has a windscreen. Chale. Yep.
• 9:46
Might have to be- It is, it- We are, might have to spin-off podcast. Yeah. Well, I've, I put- Crazy ass electric power...
• 9:52
I, I did put in, so this, like I dunno, everybody probably knows by now this complex is two and a half square blocks, and I did put in
• 10:00
a request for 6,000 square feet next door just in case we wanna ramp up the electric car conversion business. [laughs] Vintage. Al was like, "Yeah, I think we could probably work something out." That'd be nuts.
• 10:17
So we, uh, it's, it's over where James' uh, studio from hell is. It's a nice space. That's a nice space. Oh, gosh. That's fine. I've been there a lot lately and Monday, Monday
• 10:30
we had a little jam session over in there and got to be pretty late and decided I don't think I wanna drive home, so we're gonna crash in there. 35 degrees the next day. Ooh. Ooh. Chil-ass.
• 10:41
They don't have the heat on over there yet. [laughs] Spoonin'. Uh, well- Conserve energy... okay, so he has, you know- [laughs]... he has a, he has all these moving blankets. Do you know what a moving blanket is? Yeah.
• 10:51
What would- Weighs like lead. Yeah, but, but what do you use a moving blanket for? Cover. Besides staying warm, but like- Cover things-... moving, right?... so you don't wanna break My wife's like- Yeah...
• 11:01
"What's a moving blanket? Is it another woman?" I go, "The blanket's not moving. It's made for moving." [laughs] Is that another woman? [laughs] I like that idea though. Wow, deep cut.
• 11:10
Moving blanket though for another woman. No, that wasn't, all that It's like wow, how is your brain chirping on that one?
• 11:16
[laughs] Yeah, you don't even, you don't even need the like all those heavy blankets for comfort they make now. It's like your dog can't lie on you, so you get a blanket- Comfort?... that weighs a lot. No.
• 11:26
You're speaking of the orgasm? What? [laughs] An organism. Oh, man. I dunno. So- Oh, shit... so it was really chilly when you woke up, huh? It's November. Yeah. Well, yeah. For fuck's sake. Yeah.
• 11:38
But- When did that happen? But this is inside a building. Yeah. Yeah? That's, well- That ev-... there's that, this, these buildings are sieves. Yeah, but it, they don't have the boiler even on yet, so.
• 11:48
And it has to come on soon 'cause there's beverages warehoused over there, so. Yeah. It'll be- At some point they'll have to fire it on up. Yeah, you're not worthy of turning the heat up, but you know, beverages are.
• 12:00
If they're not cold, I'm not cold. Oh, yeah. I, I, or oh, God, I remember living on, on Cramer, like North and Cramer is own old Vatucci's land, and it was like- It was just like, "No, we don't wanna...
• 12:13
Wait until you have to turn on the furnace." 'Cause there was just v- drafts upon drafts upon drafts- For the extra 82 cents, I'm turning it on earlier... Yeah.
• 12:22
Well, these are just, again, civ houses where, I mean, whoosh, whoosh. I mean, if you had it running, like an all winter long, it was like 400, 500 a fucking month. I mean, just over the top, beyond the pale.
• 12:40
For one unit. I, I did the math on my house, 'cause we did do the windows. So that was a big saver. Mm-hmm. But I did the math on actually, like, putting siding on it and insulating it a little more. Heard that.
• 12:51
You know how much I would save? Like, $12 a month. I'm like, "How long is the payoff on that? Not doing it." Yeah, no. No, th- this was one that was- As-... more than whatever. And then when... Oh, when, when
• 13:04
old-ass furnace w- doesn't go on and it becomes that zero degree day, and the house becomes- That's your way of learning it's time to replace the furnace... Oh, my Lord. Yeah.
• 13:13
When the house- And your house has boilers... No, my- That's expensive... Not this house. Oh. But, but this was old house. Holy shit, that was bad news. I was freaking out for a little while there.
• 13:24
It was like, "Holy crap" We're, we're working on trying to finish a very old house.
• 13:31
I'm throwing a shout-out for James, because him and I are in the same boat, that if you tighten up a really old house, like I currently am restoring, you end up with mold issues and fan issues. And
• 13:49
I, I want my ancient house to keep breathing the way it is- Yeah. It's probably... Yeah... because it's already over 100 years old. And if it keeps breathing the way it is, it'll live for another 100 years or more. Yeah.
• 14:02
Yeah, I... Yeah. You don't... I mean, there's been numerous shows on modern houses and how being so sealed up is not as great as you think it might be. Right. Sure, sure.
• 14:13
Well, and, and especially when you're trying to renovate an old house As I was riding my, as I was riding my bike by your house, and then by your house, just to keep the bike orientation, I did do it in the past week and a half or so.
• 14:23
Well, if you really wanna talk about bikes. Well, yeah, but I... Yeah. Uh, State Art- State Bicycle. Do I... We love these guys. Mm-hmm. They have a new flat bar version of their all-road bike coming out.
• 14:35
And I don't know if I'm supposed to say that yet. I don't think it was, I don't think it was, uh, embargoed. But it- Well, for guys that hate drop bars, that sounds great. I don't- I'm one of those guys...
• 14:43
I'm never gonna bend over anymore like that I hate drop bars. I hate shifting. Like, I... I'm sorry. I hate watching people on drop bars even.
• 14:51
As, as a matter of fact, if anyone is listening on this podcast right now, I will sell you a kick-ass Campagnolo Daytona Gruppo. From- Message me... From that, uh, the Univega? Yeah.
• 15:07
I- That you, that you can't get the seat post out of? I can't get the seat post out, and I don't care. Well, you could probably torch it and put a flat bar on there and have a nice bike. Don't care.
• 15:16
[laughs] Got way too many bikes already. But I would love to get someone to buy this, like, absolutely immaculate... It'll even come with two sets of chain rings. Wow. Yeah. Can you just shift them on the fly?
• 15:30
Like, s- swap them out, so? No. I mean, you, you can swap out the, I think it's 43/53 to 44/54. Wow. That's a big ring. And there's... I have no business riding a, a, a ring that large.
• 15:47
I, I, I rode this bike once across the Locust Street Bridge, and I was just like m- moving very nicely and got in the lane to turn.
• 15:57
Turned the lane, I'm like in 10th gear or in what I thought was 20th gear, and I'm like, "Oh, my God. This bike is so fast." And I look down and I'm still in the low gear.
• 16:07
And I'm like- And you have 10 more faster ones somewhat... I have 10... Yeah, exactly. I have way more speed on this bike. And I'm like, "I am way too old to ride a bike this fast." It is frightening. Without a motor.
• 16:22
Well, yeah. No. [laughs] Yeah, I mean, hey, I'll do anything with a motor, but yeah. Uh, I just got a update from Grin today on availability of parts that...
• 16:31
One of my favorite things that they make is their Phase Runner- Mm-hmm... controller. Guess when we're gonna see them again? Hmm. December of 2022.
• 16:42
They've made some, they've made some, uh, some purchases to kinda get us through the meantime, but- That's a year and- Yeah... a month away. Right. Exactly. But it'll go by like this. Two months away.
• 16:51
Welcome to the- Like this... bike industry. But like this- What the fuck?... it'll go by. Yeah. I don't know. I'm not sure if, who manufactures it for them. Unless you would sit there and watch the water boil.
• 17:01
But, uh- And shouldn't they be looking for someone else? Uh- They can't right now... maybe the capacity, I don't know You can't right now. I mean, it's terrible. I don't know.
• 17:09
But what I do know is that I had an idea, 'cause they have a, some kind of fiber laser metal cutter thing that they do their, um, torque arms with. And remember how the coaster brake bike broke on [laughs] Steel Is Real?
• 17:26
Oh. I'm like, "Hey, maybe we should make a coaster brake arm that, uh, kinda takes care of that issue." I'm thinking go all the way, like, to the bottom bracket. Get it like, you know- Right. Yeah...
• 17:39
you, you need a two and a half millimeter spacer in there a lot anyway. Yeah. So they're like, "Oh, all the way over." Why not? Yeah. Then it'll break, and it won't...
• 17:47
Well, if it breaks the bottom bracket, you're El Screwed-o anyway, so. And with the, with the coaster brake phase- They're not gonna learn... the, a- and the fun peoples that are having the coaster braking,
• 17:56
can't we get a coaster brake that's a little bit bigger and a little more brake-y? So it doesn't broken? Well, I just... Yeah, I bet that would- All 23 of you in the United States? Cut it out.
• 18:07
Coaster brakes are, are the wave of the future. No, they're not. Yeah, they are. You're full of shit. For the past Way of the future, yeah I, I, I, I, I sense- The smooch- I... Wait...
• 18:16
of the past JK, roll up your pants legs. Greg's stockings getting shitted deep in here. [laughs] I'm gonna put 'em up on the table, guys. So you're saying you're not gonna be- So you're not wearing-...
• 18:26
part of the Clunker Podcast anymore... you're not wearing- I will always wear this... your Shivers past socks? Wait, I am. I'm not. Oh. No, I'm not. But- But- Wouldn't they repel the poo?
• 18:34
They, they, they would, but, you know, they repel water, not poo. Um- Poo repellent [laughs] Maybe they are poo repellent. We should find out. Let's watch. Um- When you, when you shit down your leg and it- Okay...
• 18:45
dribbles in the top, they're not gonna be poo repellent. I hope I never shit down my leg again. That's like when you gamble on a fart and lose. Yeah, I know. I hope that never happens again. [laughs] Again, 'cause it...
• 18:56
[laughs] Yeah. Oh, dear. What a horrible thing to [laughs] have happen. Somebody shit in my pants again. [laughs] It was me. [laughs] Hey, who shit in my pants? Oh, yeah. Well, that's about as far as you can- Yeah...
• 19:11
go down the old, uh- [laughs] Oh... crap poop rabbit hole. Wait a minute, we have- [laughs]... talked about, uh, Shannon's bike race this weekend. Oh, hey, Mr. Shit. I'll be in trouble if we don't. Did we...
• 19:22
We showed his, uh, dune buggy last week. I sure hope you threw that in the notes because it's gorgeous. I had a great- It's, it's on there... by the way, I had a great time- He has a great Halloween one now...
• 19:29
had a great time at Gore last night. Wait, what? Gore last night. Gore. Gore. Glar. Really? Yes. Where? Last night at the rave, painfully, but yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
• 19:42
Well, if you're gonna Z-Gore, I mean, it doesn't matter where. I saw them last night. So- Apparently... I guess. Maybe So anyway- Possibly. Number 25... Shannon's talking about this weekend is the Iceman Cometh
• 19:54
in- That's a, that's a big deal race up there... up in Traverse City, Michigan. And- That's a big deal, and it's also a really long ways away. Well, you can't have it be near. One must traverse.
• 20:04
I bet you she's not taping- taking the buggy. [laughs] No, probably not. Yeah Not with the, the weather like this. If you are, Shannon, you rule, and you better be well-dressed. [laughs] That is a, a...
• 20:18
Look at last week's show notes if you didn't see it. It's, it's- It, it is... and he's got a, he's got a PK big ripper on the top of the roll bar too. Yeah, it looks nice. He's a pretty big ass. I mean, that... Yeah.
• 20:27
That looks fun. He's a cool cat. If you don't know him, you should. Get to know me. Check him out at, uh, Iceman Cometh- Yeah... tomorrow. Pinch his nipples.
• 20:38
Also, uh, coming up too, Santa, Santa Rampage is coming up in a lot of places. Yeah. Yeah, we are coming up. Are we going to- Thanksgiving- We're going to Rochester?... is coming up very soon too. Yeah.
• 20:49
I saw a post on that in Bike Milwaukee. That's a fun, entertaining- Funsgiving... it was fun 'cause, uh, John Bu- or... Yeah, John Bulinski? Bolicki? Bolicki.
• 21:05
He used to have the most fun because he'd go out and people would be at, like, five pounds of rice, and he'd come back with 50 pounds of rice. With his, uh- Oh, yeah... yeah, with his Bullet. Yeah, his Bullet cargo bike.
• 21:17
It was awesome. And he never, I don't think he ever motorized that thing, did he? Never. No. No, that's, uh- He is the motor Yeah. Yeah, that, that's Pete. He moved, he moved that out- Pete has the motorized Bullet. Yes.
• 21:27
I will do a- Pete has the motorized Bullet- I will, I will do-... that will do 200 miles... a quadruple big O. That i- was his... I remember Oscar's, speaking of Oscar's- Yeah...
• 21:35
that was his- Oh, he, he can destroy- Oh, yeah... he, he- That was his fuel Yeah, he has a hollow leg, of course. Oh, Lord in heaven. Clearly. That boy can put down food. He won 10 tacos at, uh, Bel Aire once.
• 21:46
It's impressive as shit. I, that seems like the- Well, their tacos suck, so if you eat- Yeah, they are pretty bad... two, it's amazing.
• 21:52

• 26:31
I would like to have spent more than the last two months trying to get ready [laughs] for it, though, 'cause we're still a little behind. We gotta do a little, a little- We gotta have lights... making of the shop-...
• 26:43

• 27:07
I- They did a two night in a row engagement at Schank Hall, [laughs] and I only, like, figured it out after, totally after the fact. I remember seeing it going like, "Oh, yeah, November 2nd, November 3rd." Wow.
• 27:20
That's November 2nd and 3rd. I missed Silvenaco and Madison- And that's, that's-... and still pissed... November 2nd and 3rd. Even now in my head, November 2nd and 3rd is, like, a month and a half away.

• 27:46
