- 0:40Speaker 1: I'm glad to have you with us here on a Monday.
- 0:43Speaker 1: This portion of the program is brought to you by
- 0:46Speaker 1: Radiant Dentistry. Today. We're going to be visiting, in fact,
- 0:52Speaker 1: just a few moments, Joe Popolardo. His book is called Boomtown,
- 0:57Speaker 1: The True Story of the Wickedest in Texas. It's pretty amazing.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Joe Papalardo is going to join us. We're going to
- 1:08Speaker 1: talk Stanley Cup playoffs. We're going to Since I was here,
- 1:12Speaker 1: the stars have been unceremoniously dumped out of the playoffs.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I may or may not have a few things to
- 1:18Speaker 1: say about that. We're going to talk about some Maggie
- 1:21Speaker 1: baseball in the second hour. We've got the writers round table.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Rusty and Cease will be here with us for that.
- 1:33Speaker 1: We're working on some other things this week, which means
- 1:36Speaker 1: I don't have anything planned, but we will by you know,
- 1:40Speaker 1: my last show on Thursday.
- 1:42Speaker 4: I hope.
- 1:44Speaker 1: No, that's not true. We do have some things planned
- 1:48Speaker 1: and other stuff that may or may not happen, so
- 1:55Speaker 1: and I'm not willing to say just yet what that
- 2:00Speaker 1: might be. I don't know about me, but many of
- 2:06Speaker 1: you have Banana Ball hangovers from Saturday night. I mean,
- 2:11Speaker 1: Banana Ball just came into town and sucked the life
- 2:17Speaker 1: out of the community in a good way. I'm saying
- 2:22Speaker 1: it was pretty amazing. We're going to talk a little
- 2:25Speaker 1: bit about that. About the finances. I know my family contributed,
- 2:33Speaker 1: had to have some merch and there was an article
- 2:38Speaker 1: that I've been reading about about the finances of Banana
- 2:41Speaker 1: Ball and it's pretty outstanding. And I got to say this.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I was talking to Dusty about this because he went
- 2:48Speaker 1: and with members of his family, and I have seen
- 2:55Speaker 1: a couple of things on the social media. First of all,
- 2:59Speaker 1: you understand that there are a lot of angry people
- 3:02Speaker 1: on social media, and that's a big part of the
- 3:05Speaker 1: issue for the country. And we won't delve into all
- 3:08Speaker 1: of that, but you already know all of this. And
- 3:13Speaker 1: some people just don't like other people having success because
- 3:19Speaker 1: they're losers. They don't like banana ball, and I don't
- 3:24Speaker 1: understand that other than what I just said. Their life
- 3:29Speaker 1: is miserable, so they think everybody's life should be miserable,
- 3:33Speaker 1: and they don't like banana ball. They don't get it.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Quote get it? What's there to get kids are really happy.
- 3:42Speaker 1: My grandkids had a blast Saturday night, right, And there's
- 3:46Speaker 1: not too many things you can go to as a
- 3:48Speaker 1: family and say that. There's not too many things you
- 3:51Speaker 1: can afford to go to and say that quite frankly,
- 3:57Speaker 1: and people who have bad things to say about it,
- 4:02Speaker 1: like I said, mostly they're just losers. They have been
- 4:10Speaker 1: called the Harlem Globe trotters of baseball. I think that's
- 4:13Speaker 1: an app description, frankly, So let's go on social media
- 4:21Speaker 1: and call out the Harlem globetrotters. I mean, who doesn't
- 4:26Speaker 1: love the Harlem Globetrotters. Everybody loves the Globetrotters. So anyway,
- 4:32Speaker 1: I just had to I'm looking at stuff on Saturday,
- 4:36Speaker 1: and I'm going besides wanting to get clicks for criticizing stuff,
- 4:43Speaker 1: you know, most people enjoy your lives. Are just miserable,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and just keep it to yourself because we don't want
- 4:52Speaker 1: to hear from you. I just thought it was a
- 4:57Speaker 1: terrific weekend and and more power to them, right, more
- 5:04Speaker 1: power to them. I think Jesse calling what he's done,
- 5:09Speaker 1: he reminds me of a young mattress mac. He is
- 5:14Speaker 1: a great salesman and he mortgaged everything he had to
- 5:20Speaker 1: get to this point. And he has a hot property
- 5:27Speaker 1: that maybe valued at close to a billion dollars before
- 5:33Speaker 1: it's all said and done. Right, if you're going to
- 5:35Speaker 1: sell the Savannah bananas, if he were to sell them,
- 5:41Speaker 1: I'm telling you, it may be close to a billion dollars.
- 5:48Speaker 1: And he had mortgaged his house, and you know the story.
- 5:53Speaker 1: He and his wife are sleeping in a garage apartment
- 5:57Speaker 1: on mattresses on the floor because he had this vision.
- 6:02Speaker 1: And you know what, to me, that's what makes America great.
- 6:07Speaker 1: You can have that vision and you can still get
- 6:11Speaker 1: to that point. So hey, thanks to him for bringing
- 6:15Speaker 1: banana ball to Kyle Field. Great event, really was. And
- 6:19Speaker 1: I don't know who the staff person was at A
- 6:22Speaker 1: and M that had the idea to bring banana ball
- 6:26Speaker 1: to Kyle Field. But they need a raise. At the
- 6:29Speaker 1: very least, they need a bonus. Okay, not sure who
- 6:34Speaker 1: came up with it, don't know who they are, but
- 6:41Speaker 1: they need to get a bonus. And if you want
- 6:44Speaker 1: me to be your agent to get you that bonus,
- 6:46Speaker 1: give me a shot. I'll do the best that I can.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Okay.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Aggie Baseball salvaged a game against Auburn yesterday four to
- 6:58Speaker 1: three the final Sunday afternoon weston Moss time permitting. We'll
- 7:01Speaker 1: hear from him coming up six and a third innings
- 7:05Speaker 1: of one run ball. They needed that, so that was
- 7:15Speaker 1: a big deal. Let's see the Aggie's played tomorrow night
- 7:23Speaker 1: against Prairie View. And you know it's not gonna be
- 7:30Speaker 1: too long that this baseball stuff is going to be
- 7:34Speaker 1: starting the playoffs. And I don't consider the SEC tournament playoffs,
- 7:37Speaker 1: by the way, that's not playoffs, by the way. The
- 7:43Speaker 1: regular season finale on Saturday, May sixteenth has been moved
- 7:49Speaker 1: to an eleven a m start. Why well, I'll give
- 7:57Speaker 1: you three guesses in the first two don't count. It's
- 8:00Speaker 1: gonna be televised on the SEC network. The Rangers thankfully
- 8:04Speaker 1: have the night off. Yesterday was brutal the Astros. Look
- 8:11Speaker 1: at the Astros, they're within seven games of five hundred
- 8:17Speaker 1: and they're hosting the Dodgers. I think they'll be brought
- 8:21Speaker 1: back to life. Wait a minute, I have a call.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I have a call on my cell phone.
- 8:30Speaker 5: And.
- 8:33Speaker 1: They don't know better. Most of the people that call
- 8:35Speaker 1: know better, but they don't know better. Astros Dodgers at
- 8:41Speaker 1: Dake and slash Dykan Park. Are we carrying that game?
- 8:46Speaker 1: We should be carrying that game. I believe it's six forty.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Tonight we will have Astros baseball against the Dodgers. Yamamoto
- 8:56Speaker 1: is pitching for LA and left hander Steven Okert will
- 9:03Speaker 1: be making his fifth major league start as an opener,
- 9:07Speaker 1: his second as an Astro. Jordan Alvarez has been named
- 9:13Speaker 1: the Player of the Month in the American League. It's
- 9:17Speaker 1: his third Player of the Month award for March and April.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Alvarez hit three point fifty six nine doubles, twelve dingers,
- 9:28Speaker 1: twenty seven ribbis, twenty one walks, twenty five run scored
- 9:34Speaker 1: an OPS of eleven ninety nine. He led the majors
- 9:39Speaker 1: in OPS, slugging percentage, on base percentage hits, total bases,
- 9:44Speaker 1: ranked tie for first in home runs, first in batting
- 9:48Speaker 1: average RBI, extra base hits. In other words, without Jordan Alvarez,
- 9:57Speaker 1: the Astros could be ozhen thirty five. Tigers ace Trek
- 10:05Speaker 1: Scuball is going to have to have arthroscopic surgery on
- 10:09Speaker 1: his left elbow, aj Hinch telling reporters he'll have the
- 10:14Speaker 1: procedure after his arm locked up yesterday against the Rangers.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Hinch says it will be quote an easy process and procedure. Actually,
- 10:29Speaker 1: he was throwing, just throwing. He was scheduled to start
- 10:33Speaker 1: against Boston tonight. That's easy for him to say it'll
- 10:37Speaker 1: be easy. He did not give a timetable for the return,
- 10:42Speaker 1: but it's probably going to be two to three months.
- 10:48Speaker 1: For the two time Cy Young Award winner John Sterling
- 10:53Speaker 1: has died. Yankees announcer at one time called over five
- 10:58Speaker 1: thousand consecutive games. You may not know the name, but
- 11:03Speaker 1: you know this. The Yankees win. The Yankees win. You've
- 11:12Speaker 1: all heard that. Wfain released the statement on the social
- 11:20Speaker 1: media saying we are devastated to hear about the passing
- 11:24Speaker 1: of John Sterling, a wfan and Yankees radio icon whose
- 11:29Speaker 1: voice was synonymous with an entire generation of Yankee fandom.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Rest in peace. John Sterling began calling Yankees games in
- 11:39Speaker 1: nineteen eighty nine, was a voice of their dominant run
- 11:43Speaker 1: in the nineties in which the team won four World
- 11:46Speaker 1: Series and five years, and also called the nine Yankees
- 11:52Speaker 1: World Series. Kyle Whittingham, new Michigan coach, predicts twelve to
- 12:00Speaker 1: fifteen D one schools will have a fifty million dollar
- 12:07Speaker 1: roster by twenty twenty seven. He said there are a
- 12:11Speaker 1: few schools that can weather that, but not many. It's
- 12:15Speaker 1: already unsustainable for most schools and is only going to
- 12:19Speaker 1: get more when we come up with a model that
- 12:22Speaker 1: provides some guardrails and works for everyone.
- 12:29Speaker 6: Was it.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Two years ago? Everybody was agast at the twenty two
- 12:34Speaker 1: million dollar figure.
- 12:37Speaker 7: I believe.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Rick Barnes is doing okay at Tennessee. He has moved
- 12:44Speaker 1: up to the number two recruiting class as he got
- 12:50Speaker 1: a commitment from Wake Forest Transfer Duke Harris. Only Louisville
- 12:58Speaker 1: has a better portal, according to two four to seven Sports.
- 13:05Speaker 1: The NHL playoffs continue tonight. Flyers Hurricanes. Carolina won the
- 13:12Speaker 1: first game the Ducks and Golden Knights. There's something wrong
- 13:18Speaker 1: about at least Anaheim being in the playoffs. Anaheim is
- 13:23Speaker 1: in the playoffs because Dallas is out of the playoffs,
- 13:26Speaker 1: because that format just absolutely sucks. Canadians beat the Lightning
- 13:34Speaker 1: two to one last night to win their series. Both
- 13:38Speaker 1: teams are saying the same thing about the format. And
- 13:42Speaker 1: the Minnesota Wild, who knocked out the Dallas Stars and
- 13:48Speaker 1: who got great goaltending, gave up nine that is, nine
- 13:53Speaker 1: goals to the Avalanche last night. One of them was
- 13:57Speaker 1: empty netter, the other eight not wild game fifteen goals scored.
- 14:04Speaker 1: We're gonna hear from the Canadians Martin Saint Louis coming
- 14:09Speaker 1: up here in just a little bit. But fifteen goals
- 14:13Speaker 1: in a Stanley Cup playoff game. That's some crazy stuff.
- 14:17Speaker 1: That was Game one. Colorado leads the series one game
- 14:21Speaker 1: to none. At one time the Avalanche were up three
- 14:26Speaker 1: to nothing, and then they tied the game, and then
- 14:32Speaker 1: Colorado went up for to three, and then Minnesota scored
- 14:36Speaker 1: two goals and went up five to four, and then
- 14:39Speaker 1: Colorado came back. It was crazy Corra a z Okay,
- 14:49Speaker 1: we're gonna take a break. When we come back, we're
- 14:52Speaker 1: going to be joined by Joe Popolardo, the author of Boomtown,
- 14:56Speaker 1: the true story of the wickedest town in Texas. This
- 15:00Speaker 1: portion of the show is brought to you by Chad
- 15:03Speaker 1: Jones Law.
- 15:05Speaker 3: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 15:08Speaker 3: do injuries from car recks. But you didn't sign up
- 15:10Speaker 3: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 15:12Speaker 3: paying attention. It was their fault and now you're left
- 15:15Speaker 3: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a doctor,
- 15:17Speaker 3: and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help. We've
- 15:20Speaker 3: been helping our neighbors for more than two decades. Stop

- 15:35Speaker 1: It's tech SAgs Live, brought to you by David Garters Jewelers.
- 15:38Speaker 8: What is wrong with y'all.
- 15:39Speaker 4: I think it's cool as you go outside.
- 15:40Speaker 7: And record, I'm wondering if it's I had that.
- 15:43Speaker 9: Going on over my neighbor the other days, like two
- 15:45Speaker 9: old bombers chasing each other all morning.
- 15:47Speaker 7: That's cool.
- 15:48Speaker 8: I just wanted to know what's that?
- 15:49Speaker 7: Hey, wish you a head break here.
- 15:50Speaker 8: I'll give you a hint.
- 15:51Speaker 7: It's not a UFO. It's not UP or.
- 15:54Speaker 4: UAP or.
- 15:58Speaker 7: Stuff.
- 15:58Speaker 8: No, I mean, I don't know where I stand on UFOs.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Tech SAgs live weekdays from eight to eleven on The Zone.
- 16:17Speaker 7: Chuck, are we going to do much they say can
- 16:19Speaker 7: be done?
- 16:21Speaker 1: We've got you know, We've said this for thirty two years.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Our show is not great, but the music is. That's
- 16:34Speaker 1: every day. You can count on the music. By the way,
- 16:38Speaker 1: UFOs are now called UAPs Unidentified aerial phenomenon. The reason
- 16:44Speaker 1: they changed it the government changed it so they could
- 16:48Speaker 1: talk scientifically about the flying saucers that are hovering over
- 16:54Speaker 1: our heads and all of the for lack of a
- 17:02Speaker 1: better term, martians who are running around because they thought
- 17:06Speaker 1: people who mentioned UFOs were crazy, And now we know
- 17:10Speaker 1: that there's a lot of people that really aren't crazy,
- 17:15Speaker 1: that are very smart people who are talking about these
- 17:20Speaker 1: UFOs now called UAPs, because we have had lots of
- 17:25Speaker 1: people on our show over the years talk about this stuff.
- 17:29Speaker 1: By the way, Jet make a note, we have to
- 17:32Speaker 1: get Linda Moulton Howe on the show. It has been
- 17:36Speaker 1: way too long. We have got to get her back
- 17:39Speaker 1: on the show. All Right, We're going to jump out
- 17:42Speaker 1: to the Players Fund Center phone line. We're going to
- 17:45Speaker 1: visit with Joe Papollardo. His book is called Boomtown, The
- 17:50Speaker 1: True Story of the Wickedest Town in Texas. Joe, how
- 17:55Speaker 1: are you.
- 17:56Speaker 4: I'm doing great. How are you doing?
- 17:58Speaker 1: I'm doing well. This is wild. I grew up in
- 18:01Speaker 1: this state, been here all my life, did not know
- 18:04Speaker 1: the story. How did this story come to you?
- 18:10Speaker 9: It was an Once you sort of get introduced to borgery,
- 18:16Speaker 9: it kind of sticks with you. And I was looking
- 18:19Speaker 9: at Frank Hamer quite frankly. I was writing about the
- 18:22Speaker 9: Texas Rangers, and I definitely wanted to do something a
- 18:25Speaker 9: little bit more modern and build into the sort of
- 18:28Speaker 9: more of the evolution of the Rangers. And he's the
- 18:30Speaker 9: best bridge between the past and the future. And you know,
- 18:34Speaker 9: he had been brought into the Rangers by captains who
- 18:38Speaker 9: worked in the eighteen hundreds when I had book set
- 18:40Speaker 9: in there, so he was part of the Ranger continuity.
- 18:43Speaker 9: But then I hit Borger right and he was sent
- 18:48Speaker 9: there by the governor to clean up Borger. And it's
- 18:52Speaker 9: a couple of pages in most biographies, which are good.
- 18:54Speaker 9: I like the biographies, but those two pages are my
- 18:59Speaker 9: entire book.
- 19:00Speaker 4: You know.
- 19:01Speaker 9: I tried to slow it down to really try and
- 19:04Speaker 9: show the trade craft and the challenge and what happened
- 19:08Speaker 9: in that town and who was there and what they
- 19:11Speaker 9: wanted to get out of it, and you know, why
- 19:13Speaker 9: was it so bad, and you know, and just get
- 19:16Speaker 9: into all those questions. And I realized that that's all
- 19:19Speaker 9: you needed for an entire book, was just profiling one
- 19:21Speaker 9: year of this insane place and during this insane time
- 19:25Speaker 9: with one of the best, you know, foils for that
- 19:28Speaker 9: kind of revelry and violence. And here comes Frank Hamer,
- 19:31Speaker 9: the most famous Texas Ranger, is the one who is
- 19:34Speaker 9: tasked to clean it up.
- 19:35Speaker 4: And it was just too perfect.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Tell our listeners who as Borger was.
- 19:43Speaker 9: So ace Borger is. I still try and think of it,
- 19:46Speaker 9: like these guys are all still alive. As Borger was
- 19:49Speaker 9: a Stockholm syndrome for authors.
- 19:52Speaker 4: It's a real thing. So he was a land speculator
- 19:55Speaker 4: who heard a well.
- 19:58Speaker 9: First of all, he ran a He ran a town
- 20:02Speaker 9: in Oklahoma called Cromwell, which was famously corrupt, and he
- 20:08Speaker 9: fostered that it was called an open city where they
- 20:10Speaker 9: basically ignored prohibition and laws forbidding prostitution and gambling and
- 20:16Speaker 9: selling opium to pretty much as long as you paid
- 20:18Speaker 9: off to the local law. So they got pretty much
- 20:21Speaker 9: shut down. It ran out of Oklahoma, even to the
- 20:24Speaker 9: point where locals had burned down some of their buildings,
- 20:27Speaker 9: and they found their new home based off of an
- 20:29Speaker 9: oil development tip in Border in Texas. So that whole
- 20:34Speaker 9: infrastructure of cops and crooked cops and crooked land speculators
- 20:39Speaker 9: who want to be politicians, and the underclass of bootleggers
- 20:44Speaker 9: and prostitutes all documented started there and all came to
- 20:48Speaker 9: Border all at once. Ninety days after its founding, it
- 20:52Speaker 9: had grown to forty five thousand people. So you know,
- 20:57Speaker 9: it was by design, a you know, a place that
- 21:01Speaker 9: was born to sort of be bad, you know, not
- 21:03Speaker 9: as bad as it became. Probably the violence became a
- 21:07Speaker 9: little out of control, and that became not good for business,
- 21:10Speaker 9: but business included all of that vice, and the vice
- 21:13Speaker 9: industry was one of the reasons why they wanted to
- 21:15Speaker 9: have a city to begin with. And it attracts people,
- 21:18Speaker 9: and those people attract people who want to feed those
- 21:20Speaker 9: people bread and provide services to them. It's the straight people,
- 21:24Speaker 9: you know, So it's not just the underworld all of
- 21:26Speaker 9: a sudden, You've got this whole other class of people
- 21:28Speaker 9: who just want a second chance. So, you know, the
- 21:31Speaker 9: dynamics of the town became very interesting the more I
- 21:34Speaker 9: dug into it.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I want to repeat what you just said. In ninety days,
- 21:39Speaker 1: there were forty five thousand people in Border.
- 21:43Speaker 9: It's just an irresponsible level of growth. It's just you
- 21:48Speaker 9: can't and it starts selling itself. Wiley all there, and
- 21:52Speaker 9: it's snowballs. But yeah, there was no lights, you know,
- 21:55Speaker 9: open sewers, the dereks were next to the houses that
- 21:59Speaker 9: were ram shackle. You know, you're walking down main street
- 22:03Speaker 9: and there's you know, you've got plenty of you know,
- 22:07Speaker 9: prostitutes hanging out, you know, selling their wares, and and
- 22:12Speaker 9: then you know you're hitting the speakeasies a little bit
- 22:15Speaker 9: and you notice that the drug stores are still open.
- 22:18Speaker 9: They're selling things and including booze and other drugs. And
- 22:22Speaker 9: then you get to the really bad street Dixon, you know,
- 22:26Speaker 9: you know that's border back then, and those are all
- 22:29Speaker 9: again based on contemporary accounts, you know, you know, the
- 22:33Speaker 9: descriptions of people who loved it there in their boosters
- 22:36Speaker 9: and people who you know, hated it or visited once
- 22:39Speaker 9: and had an opinion. And I tried to bake it
- 22:42Speaker 9: all into the scene setting because it's all true. You know,
- 22:45Speaker 9: depending on where you're sitting. You know, a dance hall
- 22:47Speaker 9: operator has a whole different idea about the town's worth.
- 22:51Speaker 9: And you know, if you wanted to get a prosecute,
- 22:54Speaker 9: you get a prosecutor. You want to go in a
- 22:55Speaker 9: dance hall for a diamond dance, that's a whole different setup, right,
- 22:59Speaker 9: And there's variations within the within the black that are very,
- 23:04Speaker 9: very gray. And it was interesting when Frank Hamer saw
- 23:07Speaker 9: that too. Sometimes in the Kansas case of the dance halls,
- 23:10Speaker 9: not so much, but in other things he.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Did aside from the bootleggers, the gamblers. By the way,
- 23:19Speaker 1: this is during prohibition, is it not, And it was
- 23:22Speaker 1: just openly blatantly ignored.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Absolutely blatantly ignored.
- 23:27Speaker 9: Yeah, they declared it basically an open and open town,
- 23:31Speaker 9: and the locals weren't going to do anything about it.
- 23:33Speaker 9: And the prohibition people can only come in without local support.
- 23:36Speaker 4: There's not much that they.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Can do aside from the oil field workers. How did
- 23:41Speaker 1: forty five thousand people show up so quickly in a
- 23:45Speaker 1: world where news did not travel that fast?
- 23:50Speaker 9: News was traveling fast by wire and by newspaper all
- 23:53Speaker 9: the ways that they when you read how the advertised
- 23:56Speaker 9: for it, Yeah, and they said land for sale. Come
- 24:00Speaker 9: and stake your new future at the Pittsburgh of Texas
- 24:04Speaker 9: or whatever they're calling it, you know whatever that you know,
- 24:07Speaker 9: we're on a train line.
- 24:09Speaker 4: We're going to be great.
- 24:10Speaker 9: And hey, by the way, we're a bunch of guys
- 24:13Speaker 9: from Oklahoma who just set up an insanely popular boom town.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Get in on it now.
- 24:19Speaker 9: And people showed up, you know, in droves, because they
- 24:23Speaker 9: wanted good, bad, ugly across the spectrum. They wanted another opportunity.
- 24:28Speaker 9: They want to make something to themselves. It's a very
- 24:31Speaker 9: human I don't care if you're Shine Pope Joy, the
- 24:34Speaker 9: King of the Texas Bootleggers, or if you're Maddie Castleberry
- 24:37Speaker 9: that you know who wants to go operate a legitimate
- 24:40Speaker 9: dance hall, or you know Dutch Becky, the professional wrestler
- 24:44Speaker 9: who's defending his title as a hometown you know, professional
- 24:49Speaker 9: wrestling hero. You got something, someone's going to try and
- 24:52Speaker 9: take it from you. But you've got a chance to
- 24:54Speaker 9: build it in border right if you can defend it,
- 24:56Speaker 9: you gotta against all circumstances and all comers. But you
- 25:00Speaker 9: know that's the shared ethos amongst all these people except
- 25:03Speaker 9: Frank Hamer. He just wants to get the hell out.
- 25:06Speaker 9: The Rangers just want to leave. So against all of
- 25:08Speaker 9: that is the you know, the people who their reward
- 25:12Speaker 9: is just leaving, and that is part of why it
- 25:15Speaker 9: was such a challenge. And if you want to view
- 25:17Speaker 9: it as their undoing of this particular effort, that's part
- 25:20Speaker 9: of it that plays in.
- 25:21Speaker 1: I know that the name Frank Hamer rigs a belt
- 25:24Speaker 1: with some people. I will remind them that he was
- 25:28Speaker 1: famous frankly as a Texas Ranger, but became worldwide famous
- 25:34Speaker 1: when he killed Bonnie and Clyde in nineteen thirty four.
- 25:40Speaker 9: Yes, he's the one of the central characters in it.
- 25:44Speaker 9: It was really interesting to see him in the stage
- 25:46Speaker 9: of his career when he's the senior captain.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Yeah, when.
- 25:52Speaker 9: When they when the governor called him in the you know,
- 25:54Speaker 9: hunt down Bonnie and Clyde, was after he was out
- 25:57Speaker 9: of the Rangers.
- 25:57Speaker 4: But it was a very similar sort of a.
- 26:00Speaker 9: Hall that he was used to getting, which was something
- 26:03Speaker 9: is out of control. You know, we need someone with
- 26:06Speaker 9: some some grit and some heft who can go in
- 26:09Speaker 9: there and establish some order.
- 26:10Speaker 1: And he didn't buy shooting people.
- 26:13Speaker 9: He didn't mind shooting people. That was but I always
- 26:15Speaker 9: think of that as one of the tools in his toolkit.
- 26:19Speaker 9: So if that was the shortest distance between the two
- 26:22Speaker 9: lines of justice and we would achieve what the governor needed,
- 26:25Speaker 9: Oh yeah, okay, that's what you do. But if that
- 26:29Speaker 9: means you know, unraveling you know, a bombing, you know
- 26:35Speaker 9: some you know, and using his investigative skills, his holster
- 26:38Speaker 9: doesn't come out, if that means you know, step by
- 26:41Speaker 9: step like we described in the book, Yeah, we described
- 26:44Speaker 9: in the book, you know, trying to tie a noose
- 26:47Speaker 9: around a corrupt politician who's accepting money and doing a sting. Well,
- 26:50Speaker 9: he's going to do that too. If he's going to
- 26:52Speaker 9: take out his gun out of the holster. He could
- 26:54Speaker 9: be pistol whipping someone in the street to get, you know,
- 26:57Speaker 9: get everyone's compliance in a situation instead of shooting or
- 27:01Speaker 9: held be you know, putting someone down for a reason.
- 27:04Speaker 9: It's all part of his toolkit. And as he got older,
- 27:07Speaker 9: he was more selective in which one of those tools
- 27:10Speaker 9: he'd reach for, because with age some sort of wisdom,
- 27:13Speaker 9: but he would still reserve that option of putting you down.
- 27:16Speaker 9: That was never not in the toolkit, if you know
- 27:18Speaker 9: what I mean.
- 27:19Speaker 1: The book is called Boomtown, The True Story of the
- 27:22Speaker 1: Wickedest Town in Texas. It is a fascinating look at
- 27:26Speaker 1: border Texas. Joe Pappalardo is the author. Joe, thank you
- 27:30Speaker 1: so much for your time.
- 27:32Speaker 4: It was a real pleasure. Thank you.
- 27:34Speaker 1: That's Joe on the player's fund center zoom line. And
- 27:41Speaker 1: you know, ten minutes or so probably doesn't do it justice.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I knew nothing about this, right, Like I said, I've
- 27:52Speaker 1: grown up here. I don't know how many of you
- 27:54Speaker 1: knew about it. Very few to none of you were
- 27:59Speaker 1: alive then to begin with. But we weren't taught this
- 28:04Speaker 1: in Texas history. All of us who grew up in Texas.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Not only took US history, we took Texas history. And
- 28:11Speaker 1: God blessed Texas. But as far as I know, unless
- 28:16Speaker 1: I wasn't paying attention that day and that could have happened,
- 28:20Speaker 1: I never heard of Border Texas. I mean that's not right.
- 28:24Speaker 1: I never heard of what took place in Border Texas
- 28:28Speaker 1: in then it twenties wild crazy. I mean it made Tucson,
- 28:36Speaker 1: Arizona look tame. It made the gunfight of the Ok
- 28:41Speaker 1: Corral look like a church picnic, you know, like when
- 28:47Speaker 1: you see all these Westerns and you see these unpaved
- 28:51Speaker 1: streets and all the mud and the horses, and you
- 28:55Speaker 1: see the girls and you see the bars. And that
- 29:00Speaker 1: happened at Borger times like a thousand every day until
- 29:08Speaker 1: Frank Hamer came to town and cleaned things up. I
- 29:15Speaker 1: mean this was seven years before he tracked down Bonnie
- 29:18Speaker 1: and Clyde and killed them. Right it is Uh, it
- 29:24Speaker 1: is a wild, wild story. As Johnny Carson would say, Uh, Borger,
- 29:34Speaker 1: Texas boomtown. How do you go from zero to forty
- 29:38Speaker 1: five thousand? We've grown here in our little community, but
- 29:43Speaker 1: can you imagine an extra forty five thousand in the
- 29:47Speaker 1: next three months. Where are they going to live? Right?
- 29:54Speaker 1: I mean that is nuts from zero to four five
- 30:00Speaker 1: thousand in ninety days. That's just like, that's beyond Boomtown.
- 30:07Speaker 1: And it wasn't And apparently about let's say, thirty five
- 30:14Speaker 1: thousand of them aren't people that you would necessarily invite
- 30:21Speaker 1: into your community. Semcheck Service Center has been part of
- 30:27Speaker 1: our community for over well over fifty years. Leon started
- 30:33Speaker 1: the business and founded it on customer service and satisfaction,
- 30:37Speaker 1: and Pat is carrying out in that tradition every single day.
- 30:44Speaker 1: He wants you to be completely satisfied with the work
- 30:48Speaker 1: that they do, and they're going to take care of
- 30:51Speaker 1: you when you go in, whether it's the gasoline pumps
- 30:56Speaker 1: out front, or your car, your truck, your suv needs work,
- 31:01Speaker 1: foreign or domestic gasoline or diesel. There's no better place
- 31:05Speaker 1: to go for emergencies either flat tires, debt batteries. They
- 31:10Speaker 1: do that every single day as well. They're open till
- 31:13Speaker 1: six to night, seven to six through Friday seven to four.
- 31:16Speaker 1: On Saturdays, the gasoline island opens early and stays open late.

- 32:33Speaker 1: I thought that was a person, Mozambiq. You thought Mozambek
- 32:36Speaker 1: was a person.
- 32:36Speaker 5: The way you just said it was like Mozambiq, and
- 32:39Speaker 5: I'm like, I don't know what today he was a
- 32:40Speaker 5: basketball player.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Do you think the Knicks should play Mozambiak? I guess
- 32:43Speaker 1: the Spurs Mike Brown really went to bitch. Mozambiq played
- 32:47Speaker 1: some critical years.
- 32:49Speaker 12: TIMPs would never have used Mozambia.
- 32:52Speaker 7: Unsportsmanlike.
- 32:54Speaker 12: Listen in weekday mornings from fine to eight in the
- 32:56Speaker 12: Zone eleven fifty AM and ninety three point seven FM.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Yeah, we got the writers' roundtable coming your way here
- 33:11Speaker 1: about thirty minutes, so you want to stay tuned for that.
- 33:16Speaker 1: We're gonna talk a little laggy baseball as well, coming
- 33:18Speaker 1: up here in a few minutes because a postgame react
- 33:20Speaker 1: from the weekend series against Auburn. The NHL playoffs are
- 33:27Speaker 1: continuing without the Dallas Stars. At A friend text me
- 33:31Speaker 1: over the weekend. He said, I don't keep up with
- 33:34Speaker 1: them day to day like you do. What happened? I said, Well,
- 33:39Speaker 1: here's what happened. Number One, they played a really good team.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Minnesota is really good skilled and they had a goaltender
- 33:49Speaker 1: standing on his head for most of the series, and
- 33:51Speaker 1: that'll that's always a problem. I thought Jay Ottinger was
- 33:56Speaker 1: really good. I said. Number two, in two of the
- 34:01Speaker 1: four wins, they got fluke goals that bounced off of
- 34:05Speaker 1: people into the net. And number three, and most importantly
- 34:11Speaker 1: is they didn't show up in Game one at home
- 34:16Speaker 1: and just got killed. And you give up one game
- 34:24Speaker 1: out of seven when you have to win four against
- 34:27Speaker 1: a really good team, you can't do that. So those
- 34:32Speaker 1: are my three reasons why the Dallas Stars are no
- 34:36Speaker 1: longer in the playoffs and Minnesota is now. I talked
- 34:39Speaker 1: about the great goaltending, and then last night Colorado scores
- 34:43Speaker 1: nine goals. Look, Colorado is the favorite to win the Cup.
- 34:48Speaker 1: I don't think there's any doubt. That doesn't mean they're
- 34:50Speaker 1: going to win. I'm just saying they're the favorite to
- 34:53Speaker 1: win the Cup. Their offense is lethal, okay lethal, and
- 35:01Speaker 1: they showed it last night. They scored nine goals, eight
- 35:04Speaker 1: of them with a goaltender. On the other side, they
- 35:08Speaker 1: scored a late empty net goal, but they scored nine
- 35:13Speaker 1: last night. And the best series so far other than
- 35:19Speaker 1: the Stars and the Wild was Montreal and Tampa Bay.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Tampa won fifty games. Okay, to give you an idea,
- 35:32Speaker 1: the Stars won forty eight the while one forty six.
- 35:35Speaker 1: The Avalanche won fifty five games. But Tampa Bay, former
- 35:40Speaker 1: Cup winners with an outstanding goaltender, lost Game seven at
- 35:49Speaker 1: home two to one to Montreal. Martin Saint Louis has
- 35:54Speaker 1: done an unbelievable job coaching the Canadians. It is it's
- 36:00Speaker 1: been a while since Montreal has had any success. They
- 36:04Speaker 1: win two to one last night at Tampa Bay. Uh
- 36:13Speaker 1: Yakub Dobish was terrific, twenty eight saves. Suzuki got the
- 36:21Speaker 1: first goal, the all important first goal in the first period.
- 36:24Speaker 1: He's the captain. Afterward, Martine Saint Louis, the coach, talked
- 36:29Speaker 1: about him and the rest of the team.
- 36:31Speaker 13: Marty, early in this series, your captain was putting a
- 36:34Speaker 13: lot of heat on himself for producing and all these things.
- 36:37Speaker 13: And you know, I think at a certain point he
- 36:39Speaker 13: flipped a switch and became a really impactful player.
- 36:41Speaker 4: But tonight he gets on the board.
- 36:42Speaker 13: You see in his celebration it was a little bit
- 36:44Speaker 13: more enthusiastic than normal. He blocks a shot at the
- 36:47Speaker 13: end that kind of seals it just you talk about
- 36:50Speaker 13: your revolution, I mean his evolution as a leader, as
- 36:52Speaker 13: a player, as a guy who's leaned on a lot
- 36:55Speaker 13: by your team. What did you see in the series
- 36:57Speaker 13: from beginning to end?
- 36:58Speaker 14: Yeah, I mean I feel like you just kept getting
- 37:00Speaker 14: better as a series went on. I feel like players
- 37:03Speaker 14: like Susie, I think he they just adapt and evolve.
- 37:08Speaker 14: They learned from the previous game, they understand how the
- 37:12Speaker 14: other team plays, you know, and they just find I
- 37:16Speaker 14: felt he was better and better at finding pockets and
- 37:20Speaker 14: you know, defensively. I mean I felt like he competed
- 37:23Speaker 14: so hard and you know, very courageous and stepping in
- 37:26Speaker 14: front of big shots.
- 37:28Speaker 1: You know.
- 37:29Speaker 14: I think he led us through this series. You know,
- 37:32Speaker 14: I think everybody you know follows him well. Did pretty
- 37:36Speaker 14: more questions every also done.
- 37:39Speaker 7: He talked a lot throughout the year about being able
- 37:41Speaker 7: to win any type of game.
- 37:44Speaker 15: What does it take to win in the playoffs, to
- 37:46Speaker 15: beat a team like the Lightning, What does it take?
- 37:48Speaker 7: What is the type of game that wins?
- 37:50Speaker 14: Well, it's never Yeah, I mean obviously like playing strong defensively,
- 37:53Speaker 14: which I think we did. But if you look at
- 37:57Speaker 14: the four wins we got right first went to me was,
- 38:02Speaker 14: you know, three power play goals, you know, good goaltending,
- 38:06Speaker 14: three power play goals.
- 38:07Speaker 4: You know.
- 38:07Speaker 14: The second win is it was you know, bottom six
- 38:14Speaker 14: line bouncing back, you know, in the big overtime goal.
- 38:20Speaker 1: You know.
- 38:20Speaker 14: The third win was was game five, right, it was
- 38:25Speaker 14: a game five third win. Yeah, it was Game five.
- 38:27Speaker 14: You know, it was two to two and the third
- 38:29Speaker 14: and we caught him on the bad change, and you know,
- 38:33Speaker 14: text makes a big goal. And tonight obviously we you know,
- 38:37Speaker 14: we had nine shots, ten shots, right, and and so
- 38:42Speaker 14: I felt like tonight they deserved better. I felt like
- 38:46Speaker 14: Game six, we probably deserved better. And uh, you know,
- 38:50Speaker 14: Dobs DoBeS kind of stole the game, you know, probably
- 38:53Speaker 14: similar to the way Vassie stole the game Game six
- 38:57Speaker 14: in my mind, so you need a little bit of everything,
- 39:00Speaker 14: you know, And I think that's what we got this series.
- 39:03Speaker 14: Like tonight, big old by Susie, and we got to
- 39:06Speaker 14: bounce with Nui, right, So it's not one thing. Got
- 39:11Speaker 14: to find a way, and I feel like we did
- 39:13Speaker 14: it differently.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Yeah, Marty Ei.
- 39:17Speaker 16: There's footage after the game of your running into the
- 39:19Speaker 16: dressing room and pounding your chest or your players like that.
- 39:22Speaker 16: They're screaming. Just you know, some of them were just
- 39:27Speaker 16: the origins of that. And your players are saying like
- 39:31Speaker 16: you have a special bond with them, Like I don't
- 39:33Speaker 16: know if Tortz has ever done that, but we haven't
- 39:35Speaker 16: seen any footage of it. And just you know, how
- 39:38Speaker 16: you can sell, how you can sell the relationship you
- 39:42Speaker 16: have with your players. And what a special moment that was,
- 39:45Speaker 16: because one of the most special moments you had in
- 39:47Speaker 16: your career was just down the hall in the other
- 39:49Speaker 16: dressing room.
- 39:50Speaker 14: Yeah, I mean, I feel like you can't take the
- 39:52Speaker 14: player out of me a little bit, right, And I
- 39:54Speaker 14: tried to I don't try to be in the locker
- 39:57Speaker 14: room a lot, Like I just to me, this is
- 39:59Speaker 14: the this is their space. It's their team, it's not
- 40:02Speaker 14: my team. I'm trying to steer them. But every now
- 40:05Speaker 14: and then I've got moments with them and I try
- 40:07Speaker 14: to pick my spot and obviously like and I like tonight,
- 40:10Speaker 14: you know, I wanted to be with them and we
- 40:13Speaker 14: had some fun.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Martin saying Louis what a job he has done his
- 40:17Speaker 1: head coach at Montreal. They had nine shots on goal
- 40:24Speaker 1: that is a record low. Two of them went in
- 40:28Speaker 1: and Vassilevsky. I mean, he's a hack of a goal
- 40:31Speaker 1: and was good last night. The game winner was a fluke,
- 40:35Speaker 1: a freaky goal. And that's that's how close these playoffs are.
- 40:45Speaker 1: That is just how tight they are, and that is
- 40:50Speaker 1: just what makes Stanley Cup playoffs the best sport in
- 40:55Speaker 1: the world. We'll take a break. Astro's Report brought to

- 44:25Speaker 1: twenty minutes. Stay tuned for that. Aggie baseball team now
- 44:30Speaker 1: fifteen and eight in league play, lost a doubleheader on Saturday,
- 44:35Speaker 1: but came back yesterday winning four to three. And I'll
- 44:45Speaker 1: tell you what. Let's hear from Michael Early, first.
- 44:50Speaker 18: Coach, with all the ups and downs in the weekend
- 44:52Speaker 18: and also in Weston's entire season, how do you put
- 44:55Speaker 18: in the perspective what he went out there and gave
- 44:57Speaker 18: you guys in this ball game?
- 44:59Speaker 5: Hires a remarkable he carried us today. Just unbelievable performance
- 45:03Speaker 5: by him. One we needed, one he needed when we
- 45:06Speaker 5: need for him as we carried through. But yeah, I
- 45:09Speaker 5: mean he was he was incredible today, I mean, super proud.
- 45:11Speaker 18: Up What allowed him to be so successful and pitched
- 45:14Speaker 18: into the summer.
- 45:15Speaker 5: Now you know he saw in his last outing too,
- 45:18Speaker 5: he was he was commanding pitches for strikes. He just
- 45:20Speaker 5: happened to do it a little longer. So, I mean,
- 45:22Speaker 5: he was, he was competitive, and he was just completely
- 45:25Speaker 5: in control of himself and the strike zone and the
- 45:28Speaker 5: game like he did a just a I can't say
- 45:30Speaker 5: enough good things.
- 45:31Speaker 4: Man.
- 45:31Speaker 5: That was a freaking unbelievable effort by him and one
- 45:33Speaker 5: that was needed in an awesome show resilience, not only
- 45:36Speaker 5: by him but the team in general.
- 45:37Speaker 18: And then went into the decision to lift him with
- 45:39Speaker 18: one out for some of them, you.
- 45:40Speaker 5: Know, he hadn't been up there quite as much, you know,
- 45:42Speaker 5: a little longer than he's been. We thought it was.
- 45:45Speaker 5: I just thought he looked tired. For me, he thought
- 45:47Speaker 5: he looked tired. And then you know, his freylik was
- 45:49Speaker 5: coming up. He said number four hundred against righties, a
- 45:53Speaker 5: lot different against left handers. So I mean, we didn't
- 45:56Speaker 5: want to be a batter late. And you know Dark
- 45:58Speaker 5: came in and got that out and got the job
- 45:59Speaker 5: done there. But yeah, man, just I don't think I
- 46:03Speaker 5: don't know what he was his last outing, he just
- 46:05Speaker 5: he's such a little gas.
- 46:06Speaker 19: What have you seen that maybe people haven't in the
- 46:08Speaker 19: middle of the week from Weston where he gets moved
- 46:11Speaker 19: from that Saturday rule, but he's still able to come
- 46:13Speaker 19: out on Sundays and has killed the forms.
- 46:15Speaker 5: He can't change his mindset and about being about the team.
- 46:18Speaker 7: That's not all it's easy to hear, just competit.
- 46:20Speaker 5: But yes, he's just continued to try to get better
- 46:22Speaker 5: and it definitely shows.
- 46:24Speaker 7: How how greedy has Cris been this weekend.
- 46:27Speaker 19: You know, he's not one hundred percent, but still able
- 46:29Speaker 19: to get a ball out of the park that ends
- 46:30Speaker 19: up being the difference in a game like that.
- 46:32Speaker 5: Yes, he's a he's a I mean I've said a
- 46:34Speaker 5: million times, but he's a really tough kid.
- 46:36Speaker 7: He's he's a he's a team guy, and he's a
- 46:38Speaker 7: really good player. So he's just struggle.
- 46:40Speaker 5: Can't run his full speed, but that was never the
- 46:42Speaker 5: the carrying tool for him anyway. So then just keep
- 46:45Speaker 5: getting him healthier and healthier day by day so we
- 46:47Speaker 5: get him back out of second base.
- 46:49Speaker 18: I mean, what are you from your perspective, what are
- 46:51Speaker 18: you feeling, what are you seeing? During the ninth inning
- 46:53Speaker 18: as Auburn tries to plow.
- 46:54Speaker 7: Up a rally.
- 46:56Speaker 5: I was just waiting for us to get them to
- 46:58Speaker 5: him to a double play at the end. I knew
- 46:59Speaker 5: it was and I thought it was gonna go short,
- 47:01Speaker 5: but it went to second. So I was a little
- 47:03Speaker 5: wrong there. But I had a complete belief in the
- 47:05Speaker 5: fresh Crow. I mean, they had a couple credit to them.
- 47:08Speaker 5: They put it in and play and got some balls on.
- 47:09Speaker 5: So I just I believe in the law of averages
- 47:12Speaker 5: in this game, and I knew something with bound to guardwin.
- 47:14Speaker 19: You know, it's a long time ago, but Gavin Stalett
- 47:17Speaker 19: still there in that first sitting.
- 47:18Speaker 7: Was that called or is that just something he saw there?
- 47:21Speaker 7: It wasn't. It wasn't a delayed steel. It was just something, just.
- 47:26Speaker 5: Something within the game, and he didn't see it.
- 47:29Speaker 7: He didn't see it the right way.
- 47:30Speaker 5: But you know, it worked out. So he did one
- 47:33Speaker 5: thing right there though he should not have went. But
- 47:37Speaker 5: when you go, you go, you see a lot of
- 47:38Speaker 5: guys a lot of times trying to stop me jobs
- 47:41Speaker 5: and you're getting out in the rundown.
- 47:42Speaker 7: Or nineteen ninety percent, I'm sure. So it's like, so
- 47:44Speaker 7: he did do that correct.
- 47:45Speaker 5: You make a pitcher dove out a third base, so
- 47:48Speaker 5: there's a positive on that in nine year he said,
- 47:50Speaker 5: when you knew that double play was coming, is not
- 47:52Speaker 5: just pitch calling coach intuitional.
- 47:54Speaker 4: I was.
- 47:55Speaker 7: I was being a little facetious.
- 47:56Speaker 5: I just I wanted it, So I think I probably
- 47:58Speaker 5: wanted it more than I knew. But I just, you know,
- 48:01Speaker 5: I have complete faith and played freshmore on the mountain,
- 48:04Speaker 5: and there's the guys out there on the field, so
- 48:06Speaker 5: it just happened to be a hit right out of
- 48:07Speaker 5: guy and then we had to make a punch.
- 48:09Speaker 19: Did y'all learn any more about how Niko is doing
- 48:11Speaker 19: and how long you might be out for?
- 48:12Speaker 9: I don't.
- 48:13Speaker 7: We won't know that today. You know, he's obviously pulled something,
- 48:17Speaker 7: so I've got to get that.
- 48:18Speaker 1: We'll get a look at tomorrow and move forward. So
- 48:20Speaker 1: I don't I don't have.
- 48:21Speaker 7: The severity of it. I mean, he's walking around. It's
- 48:24Speaker 7: not for his don't want to make sure you're getting
- 48:26Speaker 7: healthy getting back.
- 48:27Speaker 11: From this season.
- 48:28Speaker 18: I've heard you say that, you know, every every single
- 48:31Speaker 18: SEC game matters and every single game counts the same.
- 48:33Speaker 18: So after winning this one and what turned out to
- 48:36Speaker 18: be a dog fight, but now you've got fifteen wins
- 48:39Speaker 18: with two weeks to play, How are you feeling?
- 48:41Speaker 4: We need to keep grabbing him?
- 48:42Speaker 5: And that's why I told him, like, yeah, then we
- 48:45Speaker 5: talk about it all the time. Yes, there's a series.
- 48:47Speaker 4: For sure.
- 48:47Speaker 5: We did not win the series at home. We always
- 48:49Speaker 5: want to do that, but it's just grabbing one of
- 48:51Speaker 5: those sturdy wins when you can't. We had to grab
- 48:53Speaker 5: one today. I mean, he just want to keep you know, play.
- 48:56Speaker 4: A game by game.
- 48:57Speaker 5: We got a game Tuesday, but these conference games are
- 48:59Speaker 5: sooked off as you can see, being we lost. We
- 49:02Speaker 5: had one game that got out of hand. Wasn't a
- 49:04Speaker 5: game lost in one run game?
- 49:06Speaker 7: Won a one run game. He's got to keep grabbing
- 49:08Speaker 7: because hard beginning. How satisfying the one run wins a kid.
- 49:13Speaker 5: I don't know if there's I mean, they're satisfying, but
- 49:15Speaker 5: they I'm now forty five years old after that.
- 49:19Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I just like to win in general.
- 49:21Speaker 5: I prefer to win by like five or six, but
- 49:23Speaker 5: I'll take.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Those mock yeah. Uh yeah, any win in the SEC
- 49:29Speaker 1: any time. Uh and uh, it's been a while since
- 49:33Speaker 1: Yeaggy's lost his series. Quite frankly, they'll play tomorrow night.
- 49:37Speaker 1: I think at six o'clock I got that right, five
- 49:41Speaker 1: forty five for US trade. Okay, Western Moss was was
- 49:46Speaker 1: just terrific his second conference win, a career high six
- 49:51Speaker 1: and a third six strikeouts, just two base runners. He
- 49:59Speaker 1: was was terrific. Let's hear from Weston Moss.
- 50:04Speaker 7: Well, you definitely didn't take it easy on Augurt.
- 50:06Speaker 4: So we'll just.
- 50:07Speaker 7: Working for you today that you were able to get
- 50:09Speaker 7: in that group. Pictures wise, it is, you know, a
- 50:11Speaker 7: basketball secret change up. I think we went cutter a
- 50:15Speaker 7: couple of times. The first guy of the game, you know,
- 50:17Speaker 7: threw a nice cutter there three two. He wasn't expecting it,
- 50:21Speaker 7: just let it fall down in the middle.
- 50:23Speaker 4: You know.
- 50:23Speaker 3: Kind of you kind of.
- 50:23Speaker 19: Handled these last three weeks where you moved off the
- 50:26Speaker 19: Saturday spot.
- 50:27Speaker 7: But you've had some good outings on its Sunday starts.
- 50:30Speaker 7: You know, you know, I'm enjoying now I can just
- 50:32Speaker 7: what I'm in. You know, I think towing the rubber,
- 50:34Speaker 7: I mean, no matter what day, saying you though, sure, yeah,
- 50:39Speaker 7: I just you know, we'll think much about it. It'd
- 50:42Speaker 7: be when.
- 50:43Speaker 18: Pictures and athletes are working on something great like you
- 50:46Speaker 18: were today, they helped to talk about entering the zone.
- 50:48Speaker 18: So my question is did you enter that little realm
- 50:52Speaker 18: that us your mortals can't.
- 50:53Speaker 7: And how did it feel if you did? Yeah, today
- 50:56Speaker 7: I just was looking down.
- 50:57Speaker 20: I you know, I towed the rubber and then I
- 50:59Speaker 20: look at That's pretty much it.
- 51:01Speaker 7: You know, it's thinking.
- 51:01Speaker 20: Nothing, think about nothing, but you know, one pitch at
- 51:05Speaker 20: a time. But yeah, it's just you know, tunnel vision
- 51:08Speaker 20: pretty much too.
- 51:09Speaker 7: That's what it was.
- 51:10Speaker 18: How are you able to interview that, that tunnel vision
- 51:12Speaker 18: that you speak of when they're so almost seven thousand
- 51:15Speaker 18: screaming people and there's a lot of anxious nerves given
- 51:18Speaker 18: how the earlier part.
- 51:19Speaker 20: Of the weekend, and you know it just control the
- 51:22Speaker 20: mental games, you know, just think less, you know, do more.
- 51:25Speaker 20: You know, That's how it is. I think that just
- 51:29Speaker 20: the mental part of the game is what's been slowed me.
- 51:31Speaker 7: Down this year.
- 51:32Speaker 3: Uh.
- 51:32Speaker 7: And I think the last you know, three three games
- 51:35Speaker 7: have been good. You know, just go out there, have fun.
- 51:38Speaker 20: Really like my one goal by one objective if it
- 51:41Speaker 20: is to win, and no matter what my stat line is.
- 51:44Speaker 4: We win.
- 51:44Speaker 7: At the night thinning, you know, it's over. You know,
- 51:47Speaker 7: I'm good, God.
- 51:48Speaker 18: You're coming up the mound and the crowds cheered before
- 51:50Speaker 18: you took your cabs. What was that moment like and
- 51:52Speaker 18: take us through?
- 51:53Speaker 7: You know felt good?
- 51:55Speaker 20: You know, It's it's been a while, you know, you know,
- 51:57Speaker 20: not the the year I dreamed of.
- 52:00Speaker 7: But you know, I'm just you know, stay locked in.
- 52:04Speaker 7: I know the people here love me, they love us,
- 52:06Speaker 7: they love the players. But you know, sometimes when you're
- 52:08Speaker 7: not succeeding, you know, you know, they start talking a
- 52:11Speaker 7: little bit. But I think, you know, it felt rewarded.
- 52:14Speaker 7: You know, I felt like I deserved that through a
- 52:17Speaker 7: lot recently, and I think that was it felt great
- 52:21Speaker 7: going on that. You were pretty hype when you were
- 52:23Speaker 7: leaving them out. What was the mindset during that? You know,
- 52:26Speaker 7: I was just proud of myself.
- 52:28Speaker 20: I think, like I said, the mental game been the
- 52:30Speaker 20: hardest part and I think I completely dominated No.
- 52:34Speaker 7: Eight plus, you know, so I was just you know.
- 52:37Speaker 20: Really happy, really happy to just curious and the first
- 52:41Speaker 20: a bat that you had at the very first.
- 52:43Speaker 19: Seeing you got into them two and then it went
- 52:45Speaker 19: to three two do you got to strike out?
- 52:46Speaker 7: I'm just curious. Was that a big a bath for you?
- 52:49Speaker 7: And if so, just what what did you do for
- 52:51Speaker 7: you given that one, you know, you know it felt good.
- 52:54Speaker 7: You know, I feel like I've had that.
- 52:56Speaker 20: You know, a throuble with three, so you know, throwing
- 52:59Speaker 20: out of a good and you know, and when I do,
- 53:02Speaker 20: you know, I knew.
- 53:03Speaker 7: Make the last bit. I think we got three two
- 53:06Speaker 7: by stuggle on. You know, did think much about it.
- 53:10Speaker 18: But don't get the struggle out.
- 53:13Speaker 19: If you're talking about some of the things you got
- 53:14Speaker 19: to overcome this season, I'm curious to be be away
- 53:17Speaker 19: from the game or the baseball field. Is there anything
- 53:19Speaker 19: that's kept you level or grounded through that to the
- 53:21Speaker 19: first of year.
- 53:22Speaker 20: In those moments, you know, I think God is testing
- 53:25Speaker 20: you know me for sure, He's you know, putting my
- 53:29Speaker 20: back against the wall.
- 53:29Speaker 7: He's you know, making me humble, making me grateful for
- 53:33Speaker 7: the things that I have off the field.
- 53:35Speaker 20: And I think, how you just trust his playing if
- 53:38Speaker 20: that's what I'm doing, I'm.
- 53:39Speaker 7: Trusting is playing. You know, this world, you know, tough
- 53:42Speaker 7: a gap, but I think if.
- 53:43Speaker 16: You stick with Goud, stick with.
- 53:46Speaker 7: Your family, and people would love. I think, uh, that's where.
- 53:51Speaker 19: But mind it, okay, taking the game, you know, after
- 53:56Speaker 19: a day like he had yet the team had yesterday
- 53:58Speaker 19: to come back and then win, Like.
- 54:00Speaker 7: Is what what does it do for a team before?
- 54:02Speaker 4: You know?
- 54:02Speaker 7: That's great? I mean like you know Salvage series, you know. Uh,
- 54:07Speaker 7: but I think, you know, getting swept not good. So
- 54:10Speaker 7: I like my role. I like I like going out
- 54:12Speaker 7: and competed.
- 54:13Speaker 11: Uh.
- 54:14Speaker 7: Yeah, it's it's a big game. Still happy to win it.
- 54:18Speaker 7: The good team a really good game and my U
- 54:21Speaker 7: Petrovic starter we played you know growing up. He did good.
- 54:25Speaker 7: You know that pretty mme round whatever, but he did
- 54:27Speaker 7: real good. So I'm proud of him. Yeah, I was
- 54:30Speaker 7: gonna ask you know, him being this some Cypress.
- 54:32Speaker 20: Talmhall area and went to the Accordingly, we played a
- 54:34Speaker 20: travel ball together, okay growing up.
- 54:36Speaker 7: Which the trout teameral Premier Baseball.
- 54:39Speaker 19: Okay, she she gets to talk to him after the game.
- 54:42Speaker 20: No, not really, but you know, I wish I could,
- 54:44Speaker 20: but you know.
- 54:45Speaker 7: If I have I think I have a phone number.
- 54:47Speaker 7: I don't know, I'll give him a text.
- 54:48Speaker 1: On that's uh, lesson Moss. And again he was really
- 54:52Speaker 1: good yesterday. They needed him to be good. They needed
- 54:56Speaker 1: to get a win yesterday, which they did.
- 54:59Speaker 8: Uh.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Prairie View coming in tomorrow and they have been really
- 55:03Speaker 1: good on Tuesdays. That's been a huge deal right now.
- 55:08Speaker 1: I saw A and M was maybe projected number five overall,
- 55:15Speaker 1: and I think that was after this weekend. I think
- 55:18Speaker 1: I saw this yesterday. I could be dreaming that, but
- 55:21Speaker 1: I think I saw them as a projected number five
- 55:24Speaker 1: of the top eight seeds, which would be good playoff
- 55:29Speaker 1: games at Olson. You can't beat that, and we're not
- 55:34Speaker 1: that far away. I hate that we have to go
- 55:37Speaker 1: through that SEC tournament garbage, but hey, that's just the
- 55:41Speaker 1: way it is right now. I can't help you with that.
- 55:43Speaker 1: If I could, you know that I would, but they're not.
- 55:47Speaker 1: For whatever reason, they don't listen to me. If they would,
- 55:50Speaker 1: everything all of sports would be so much better. We
- 55:53Speaker 1: got the Writers' Roundtable coming up. You need to stay
- 55:55Speaker 1: tuned for that. Not always informative, but always entertaining. Oliver
