Latest / THE DAILY BRIEF / Trumps threat remains VERY operative - Sen Cruz
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Thank you Mike for that report. Joining us now with
- 0:02Speaker 1: more Texas Senator Ted Cruz, Senator, it seems like this
- 0:07Speaker 1: operation is going to wind down the easy way of
- 0:09Speaker 1: the hard way. So far, the Uranians, at least the
- 0:12Speaker 1: top three tiers of leadership were now at level four
- 0:15Speaker 1: and five. The president is Middle East Envoy Steve Wickcoff
- 0:19Speaker 1: seemed to think that this fourth fiftier leadership that has
- 0:22Speaker 1: emerged is being far more reasonable, and as a matter
- 0:26Speaker 1: of fact, the President pretty much confirming that on paper
- 0:28Speaker 1: as it relates to these sixty percent of rich uranium opened,
- 0:32Speaker 1: the or uranium opening the Strait of Hormuz, and on
- 0:36Speaker 1: another a number of issues ballistic missiles, funding proxies. They
- 0:42Speaker 1: have agreed in principle, which is why the President did
- 0:45Speaker 1: not follow through on Bridge and Infrastructure Day or power
- 0:49Speaker 1: plant Day. So there is hope there. What do you
- 0:53Speaker 1: make of the dust ups that have occurred since the
- 0:56Speaker 1: ceasefire began.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Well, I think President Trump has shown bold leadership and
- 1:04Speaker 2: in terms of this military operation, virtually all of the
- 1:06Speaker 2: military objectives have been achieved with incredible success. We've seen
- 1:11Speaker 2: the air defenses of Iran almost totally obliterated. We have
- 1:14Speaker 2: seen the ballistic missiles destroyed. We've seen the ballistic missile
- 1:18Speaker 2: manufacturing destroyed, the same with drones, both drones and manufacturing destroyed.
- 1:22Speaker 2: We've seen the air force almost entirely taken out. We've
- 1:25Speaker 2: seen the navy more than one hundred and forty ships sunk,
- 1:28Speaker 2: the biggest naval defeat since World War II. We have
- 1:31Speaker 2: also seen the Ayatola and virtually all of the senior
- 1:35Speaker 2: military leadership taken out. So in terms of a concentrated
- 1:39Speaker 2: military operation, it's been incredibly successful. Now there is a
- 1:42Speaker 2: pause and hostilities, and President Trump is absolutely right when
- 1:47Speaker 2: he has said what he expects of Iran is number one,
- 1:50Speaker 2: zero enrichment and number two that they hand over the
- 1:54Speaker 2: enriched uranium they have right now. President Trump is right
- 1:57Speaker 2: to draw that line to insist upon that. And he's
- 2:00Speaker 2: been clear as well that Iran will open and keep
- 2:03Speaker 2: open the Straight of Hormuz, they will not use it
- 2:06Speaker 2: for negotiating or blackmail. And I think if they try
- 2:09Speaker 2: to do so, the President's threat remains very operative that
- 2:14Speaker 2: if they shut down the Strait of Hormuz, if they
- 2:16Speaker 2: break this agreement, that I think the President is prepared
- 2:19Speaker 2: to take out the power generation in Iran and to
- 2:23Speaker 2: take out the bridges of Iran. Hopefully he does not
- 2:26Speaker 2: have to do so, but the Iranian leadership is going
- 2:29Speaker 2: to determine if they think he's bluffing and they try
- 2:33Speaker 2: to call his bluff, it will not work out. Well,
- 2:36Speaker 2: here's the outcome I'd like to see. I'd like to
- 2:38Speaker 2: see a peaceful Iran with a government that wants to
- 2:41Speaker 2: be friends with America, that is not waging war on America,
- 2:44Speaker 2: that is not killing Americans. That would be good for
- 2:46Speaker 2: the people of Iran, that would be good for America.
- 2:49Speaker 2: That's what President Trump, I believe, is trying to achieve.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Do you believe that's possible? And you know the President
- 2:56Speaker 1: did mention he was questioned earlier in the week about
- 2:58Speaker 1: arming civilians. Efforts apparently have been made, some more successful
- 3:04Speaker 1: than others. Obviously dealing with bad actors. I'm sure in
- 3:07Speaker 1: the region, that's a guess. That's not anything I can confirm,
- 3:12Speaker 1: but it would seem that that would be part of
- 3:14Speaker 1: the equation. With that said, I think your admonition to
- 3:17Speaker 1: whatever Iranian leadership has emerged here that they better take
- 3:22Speaker 1: Donald Trump seriously. How could they not at this point?
- 3:26Speaker 1: That's the question I have, and that's the joke about Democrats.
- 3:29Speaker 1: You know, the president can't win for losing. If he
- 3:32Speaker 1: says he's going after bridges and infrastructure legitimate military targets,
- 3:37Speaker 1: that's a war crime. Meanwhile, they never talked about the
- 3:39Speaker 1: war crimes of the Iranians targeting Tel Aviv and densely
- 3:44Speaker 1: populated cities in Israel, not one time. They never once
- 3:48Speaker 1: mentioned their involvement on October seventh than what they did
- 3:51Speaker 1: on that very day. So you know, it's a little
- 3:54Speaker 1: ironic their application of the term war crimes when a
- 3:57Speaker 1: bridge is a legitimate military target, infrastructure is a legitimate
- 4:01Speaker 1: military target. So I think how this ends is I
- 4:06Speaker 1: do believe the Strait will be open. They're not going
- 4:08Speaker 1: to be able to charge money for tankers to pass
- 4:10Speaker 1: through international waters. If anyone's going to get money for that,
- 4:14Speaker 1: that would be the USA because we're the ones that
- 4:17Speaker 1: kept it open. In the last part of it is,
- 4:21Speaker 1: you know, the uranium is coming to us one way
- 4:24Speaker 1: or the other, the hard way of the easy way.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I prefer the easy way. I prefer of course you
- 4:29Speaker 1: know that they they they wise up. How could they
- 4:32Speaker 1: not wise up? After all that has happened, everything that's
- 4:36Speaker 1: happened to this point.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Well, look, hopefully someone in leadership realizes that your choices
- 4:43Speaker 2: are either comply or or or that is the end
- 4:47Speaker 2: of your rule. And there's been one IOTOE last year
- 4:49Speaker 2: neither that discovered that. That's exactly right. And listen, you're
- 4:55Speaker 2: also right about the hypocrisy of Democrats that that that
- 4:58Speaker 2: from the instance this military conflict began, they began attacking
- 5:02Speaker 2: President Trump relentlessly. And I got to say, it really
- 5:06Speaker 2: is sad. It used to be that politics ended at
- 5:09Speaker 2: the water's edge, but the Democrats hate Trump so much
- 5:12Speaker 2: that they were rooting for America to fail. And they
- 5:16Speaker 2: immediately started accusing President Trump of war crimes when he
- 5:19Speaker 2: threatened to take out power plants. You can look on
- 5:23Speaker 2: the website of the Department of War. The long standing
- 5:27Speaker 2: Rules for the Conduct of War makes clear that civilian
- 5:30Speaker 2: power generation is legitimate target. A military target is a
- 5:34Speaker 2: long standing military target. And the reason the President named
- 5:38Speaker 2: power plants and bridges is because the obvious target is
- 5:42Speaker 2: the oil facilities, the refineries and the terminal on carg Island.
- 5:46Speaker 2: But if that were destroyed, Iran would lose its long
- 5:50Speaker 2: term revenue. And the objective here is stop Iran from
- 5:55Speaker 2: being a threat, remove the military threat, stop them from
- 5:58Speaker 2: killing Americans, and then that economic revenue from oil sales
- 6:02Speaker 2: can rebuild the country. Not with American taxpayers, We're not
- 6:06Speaker 2: going to rebuild the country, but the revenue from Iran,
- 6:09Speaker 2: with a peaceful government, can rebuild the country. And now let
- 6:11Speaker 2: me say one other thing, which is Iran has a
- 6:14Speaker 2: long history before the revolution, of being a secular country,
- 6:19Speaker 2: of being a country that produced incredible scientific innovation and
- 6:23Speaker 2: art and poetry. The Persian people have an incredible culture
- 6:27Speaker 2: that the world has been missing. And so it is
- 6:30Speaker 2: my hope that by removing these theocratic zealots who have
- 6:34Speaker 2: oppressed the people of Iran and have been murdering Americans,
- 6:38Speaker 2: that President Trump is bringing in a new era peace,
- 6:42Speaker 2: not just in Iran, but throughout the Middle East and
- 6:46Speaker 2: back here in America.
- 6:48Speaker 1: But to get to that point that will fall on
- 6:50Speaker 1: their shoulders, they will have to fight for their own
- 6:53Speaker 1: freedom and their own liberation. They will have to take
- 6:56Speaker 1: up arms to get exactly sure. My hope and prayer
- 6:59Speaker 1: is yeah, that we that the Persian people returned to
- 7:02Speaker 1: the great civilization that they once were and I'm hoping
- 7:05Speaker 1: we get to that point. We appreciate you being with
- 7:08Speaker 1: the Senator Ted Cruz. Thank you, all right, Hey, Sean
