- 0:13Speaker 1: Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City. Go to the gallery.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Go to the gallery, Go to Ocean Go for the Win.
- 0:20Speaker 1: For more, go to oceanac dot com. I just heard
- 0:24Speaker 1: Josh talking to Adam off the air over there. All right,
- 0:27Speaker 1: let's bring in Adam Kaplan from the Inside the Birds
- 0:30Speaker 1: podcast and get some thoughts on tonight's or last night's
- 0:34Speaker 1: game and kind of you know, see where he feels
- 0:37Speaker 1: that this team was last night and what the story was.
- 0:40Speaker 1: We had the poll question up at Mike Gilshow earlier
- 0:43Speaker 1: and most people believed it was the defense that was
- 0:47Speaker 1: the story of the game last night. So Adam Kaplan,
- 0:50Speaker 1: obviously a frustrating night again offensively, what do we make
- 0:55Speaker 1: of the struggles yet again on offense?
- 0:58Speaker 2: Yeah, might could be what you yes, So when we
- 1:02Speaker 2: when we look at this situation, I'm here in echo, Mike,
- 1:05Speaker 2: I don't know what's going on there. Okay, So so Mike.
- 1:11Speaker 2: We just actually, it's funny we're doing this right now.
- 1:13Speaker 2: We just finished taping the inside the Tape show at
- 1:16Speaker 2: Greco saw offensive defense, and yeah, the defense will get
- 1:19Speaker 2: into that offensively, Mike. It was hard to find Cliff
- 1:23Speaker 2: to talk about because there's just even the footy one yard.
- 1:26Speaker 2: It was a broken play. It was also Sco to Barkley.
- 1:29Speaker 2: It was just a broken play at lest starts didn't
- 1:30Speaker 2: scape the pot, he didn't try to run. He dumped
- 1:33Speaker 2: it off the Barkley but that it wasn't a screen
- 1:35Speaker 2: just to dump off because there was nowhere else to
- 1:38Speaker 2: go it from. I would I would put it see
- 1:41Speaker 2: you this way, Mike. The progress that they made in
- 1:44Speaker 2: the past game, in the run game really starting, particularly
- 1:47Speaker 2: the past game against Minnesota Hurts was really good. The
- 1:50Speaker 2: Giants Hurts was good. Barkley's phenomenal and their offensive line
- 1:53Speaker 2: by the way, we needed to get into that in
- 1:55Speaker 2: a minute. It just they regressed the whole thing, Mike.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Their past game was a grab back. Some of the
- 2:02Speaker 2: concepts were good. They got out of his hands quickly
- 2:03Speaker 2: to borrow to God. And I like that trade area stuff.
- 2:07Speaker 2: You know. On today's show with Jeff and I I
- 2:11Speaker 2: talked about and I'm glad trap been talked about. This
- 2:13Speaker 2: pointed out he goes receivers need to do a better
- 2:16Speaker 2: job of coming back to the football. They just don't.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Why Why did Josh Allen's receivers do a good job.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Why do mahomes guys do a good job? Brown and
- 2:25Speaker 2: Smith its hapened a great year, but they've been with
- 2:28Speaker 2: him enough to many better than Brown at it. But overall,
- 2:31Speaker 2: you know, sometimes he breaks the pocket where he's not
- 2:34Speaker 2: sure where he wants to go to the football come back,
- 2:36Speaker 2: help him out. But you know, overall, this is a
- 2:38Speaker 2: major disappointment with their past game. I mean, I know
- 2:41Speaker 2: they're not throwing the ball a lot, but the Packers
- 2:43Speaker 2: without Nate Hobbs, arguably the best corner or certainly a
- 2:48Speaker 2: really good football players, had some knee problems and they
- 2:52Speaker 2: just had problems. But overall, Mike, you know, their run
- 2:54Speaker 2: blocking was mostly really good. The run blocking, I could
- 2:57Speaker 2: tell you from the tape was not very good.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and listen, I was a song right before you
- 3:02Speaker 1: came on, Adam in that it is frustrating when you
- 3:07Speaker 1: have the better personnel and at the end of the
- 3:09Speaker 1: night you look at a ten point night. I have
- 3:12Speaker 1: aj Brown and DeVante Smith and Dallas Goddard and Saquon Barkley.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Every week, guy step on the field, I have the
- 3:19Speaker 1: more talented team. It is inconceivable. At the end of
- 3:22Speaker 1: the night, I end up with ten points. And it's
- 3:25Speaker 1: not ten points because hey, they made plays or they
- 3:28Speaker 1: did You just could not get anything going. That's the
- 3:32Speaker 1: frustrating thing.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I called it a slot Mike. It's just it
- 3:37Speaker 2: was painful to watch their offense. We forget Mike last
- 3:41Speaker 2: year for most of it, daves three or four games.
- 3:44Speaker 2: The pass game is not very good. So and by
- 3:47Speaker 2: the way, they're still running Syrianna scheme for people want
- 3:49Speaker 2: to know that's one hundred percent the truth and you
- 3:52Speaker 2: could you could say what you want about it. Brian
- 3:55Speaker 2: Johnson lots his job over it. Kellen Moore did an
- 3:58Speaker 2: okay job last year, got a head coach a job,
- 4:00Speaker 2: but they won the Super Bowl and you just you wonder, Mike,
- 4:04Speaker 2: at what point do they need to take a harder
- 4:08Speaker 2: look about what they're doing structurally? And hertzofs has to
- 4:11Speaker 2: play better. I'm not excusing him, believe me, he Ian
- 4:13Speaker 2: had a good year passing it, but this is. But
- 4:16Speaker 2: you know it's funny. We all, Greg, Jeff and I agreed.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Today they're seven and two despite all this, Mike, somehow
- 4:22Speaker 2: they're seven and two.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Well, and that was a big win in terms of
- 4:26Speaker 1: the big picture. You got to win on the road
- 4:28Speaker 1: against green Bay, a team that's like, you know, an
- 4:30Speaker 1: adversary for the number one seed. You're still like right now,
- 4:34Speaker 1: Seattle's barking up. You got the Lions coming up, so
- 4:36Speaker 1: you needed that win last week. So you're right, the
- 4:38Speaker 1: big picture is you're seven and two. You got to
- 4:40Speaker 1: win on the road. You've won at Arrowhead, you've won
- 4:44Speaker 1: at Tampa, you've beaten the Rams, you've won at Green Bay.
- 4:47Speaker 1: But doesn't this feel a lot like Hey, that twenty
- 4:50Speaker 1: twenty three season whereas you beat the Bills, you won
- 4:53Speaker 1: at Arrowhead. You know, you beat every good team until
- 4:56Speaker 1: you finally didn't. And that's why this game against Detroit
- 4:59Speaker 1: coming up is kind of like it almost feels like
- 5:01Speaker 1: that San Francisco game from a couple of years ago.
- 5:05Speaker 2: And well, you and I will preview that, but what
- 5:07Speaker 2: you'll hear on inside the tape when when we do
- 5:10Speaker 2: the defense. Now, I put it out there, I said guys.
- 5:12Speaker 2: We're going to talk about this later this week. But
- 5:15Speaker 2: the Lion sector is so beat up. The best corner,
- 5:18Speaker 2: Dj Raid remains on ir. He's only played three games.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Carry on Ardol, the number two corner who was the
- 5:23Speaker 2: first rounder, has never really played that well. Got concussion,
- 5:26Speaker 2: so he'll be very questionable to doubtful. He's going to
- 5:28Speaker 2: have to clear protocol. Remember you Rocky scene from Temple.
- 5:32Speaker 2: He's having to play a lot of Yeah, he's been
- 5:34Speaker 2: a journeyman. He's playing a ton of stamps because they
- 5:36Speaker 2: have nobody else. Now, Mike, when you're trying to be
- 5:40Speaker 2: the team, you don't have to throw the ball a ton.
- 5:41Speaker 2: You just want to be more effective doing it. And
- 5:44Speaker 2: it's painful, man. I feel I looked at our YouTube
- 5:47Speaker 2: comments this morning. The fans see the fans, Mike. There's
- 5:51Speaker 2: too much information out there. You could get the all
- 5:54Speaker 2: twenty two packs NFL dot com, you can watch it.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Fans are smart now. You can't fool them with a
- 5:59Speaker 2: past a game like this, whether it's the quarterback, whether
- 6:02Speaker 2: it's the structure, it's not working. And and here's a
- 6:07Speaker 2: good no, goo ahead, go ahead. I was gonna point
- 6:11Speaker 2: this out. Greg Cos help pointed this out, and we
- 6:13Speaker 2: all knew this, but Greg was just being fair. You
- 6:16Speaker 2: know that they have very little comments in the past
- 6:19Speaker 2: game third and twelve. It was thirty nine, then it
- 6:22Speaker 2: was third and seven and had a five year penalty
- 6:24Speaker 2: A third and twelve, You're running Will Shipley, like, what
- 6:28Speaker 2: are we doing here? I know a couple of times
- 6:30Speaker 2: a season we saw that the third and whatever. There
- 6:33Speaker 2: was that thirty one what was then Bigsby play where
- 6:36Speaker 2: he just okay, they got a first down. There was
- 6:38Speaker 2: a give up playing Bixby got it. I'm sorry, but
- 6:41Speaker 2: what what are you doing when the game is that tight?
- 6:43Speaker 2: Are you that scared? I don't get what is with
- 6:46Speaker 2: Sirianni's lack of aggressive time.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Well, that's interesting, Adam, because he has been kind of
- 6:51Speaker 1: known to be an aggressive play caller. Play at the
- 6:54Speaker 1: end that game fourth down and six. We could get
- 6:56Speaker 1: into that, but I agree with you, they take aggressive
- 6:59Speaker 1: shore always aggressive, But I thought the play calling at
- 7:02Speaker 1: times was very conservative in that game last night.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Well, well right, Nick Stock calling to play, but the decision
- 7:08Speaker 2: to go for it or not go for or to
- 7:10Speaker 2: throw her pass. I get what you're saying. Overall, look there,
- 7:15Speaker 2: and I can't. I can't take talking about the offense.
- 7:18Speaker 2: My blood's boiling. Maybe we got to go to the defense.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I'm really like and I had. We had a really
- 7:24Speaker 2: good Patreon chat last night at halftime, which were doing
- 7:27Speaker 2: enough for Level three members and it was packed last night,
- 7:31Speaker 2: and we were all like, okay, guys, we're gonna go
- 7:33Speaker 2: around the room here. What do you got? And they
- 7:35Speaker 2: were they they loved the defense, Mike, but we were
- 7:38Speaker 2: all like, this offense is just taking her aggression again.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Well, how surprised Adam Kaplan Football at four? Of course,
- 7:45Speaker 1: from the Inside of the Birds podcast. Check out their
- 7:47Speaker 1: podcast on all podcasting platforms. How surprised were you the
- 7:51Speaker 1: way the offense came out after the bye and then
- 7:54Speaker 1: after the Giant game where they got the running game going,
- 7:56Speaker 1: and after the Minnesota game where they had two hundred
- 7:59Speaker 1: yard receivers. And I thought the Giant game, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 1: a j excuse me, Jalen and DeVante they seem like
- 8:05Speaker 1: they were starting to hook up and get on the
- 8:07Speaker 1: same page a little bit. So the fact that out
- 8:09Speaker 1: of the buy the offense looked like that, that was
- 8:12Speaker 1: another perplexing thing.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Great point, Mike, and I didn't mention that that that's
- 8:17Speaker 2: something that's very disappointing and somewhat troubling. You have this
- 8:22Speaker 2: much time. And by the way, Syrian, it's now five
- 8:26Speaker 2: and a after the buye, but it's it's okay to
- 8:28Speaker 2: bring up twenty three now I think it's okay. Well,
- 8:31Speaker 2: the difference is, obviously the defenses really took a big step,
- 8:34Speaker 2: which you want to get to in a minute. The offense,
- 8:37Speaker 2: the offense of the second half had a steady regression
- 8:40Speaker 2: and it got Brian Johnson fired. So yeah, I was
- 8:44Speaker 2: telling people to stop doing that in the first half,
- 8:46Speaker 2: but I'm not doing it anymore. You want to bring
- 8:47Speaker 2: it up, bring up the offense. Do not bring up
- 8:50Speaker 2: the defense with twenty three. It has nothing to do
- 8:52Speaker 2: with it.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I agree with that, And I was going to ask
- 8:54Speaker 1: you know, as you talked about the offense getting your
- 8:56Speaker 1: blood boiling, let's go to the defense because I want
- 8:58Speaker 1: to ask you, is this defense. I don't know if
- 9:01Speaker 1: they're better than last year, but have the makings of
- 9:04Speaker 1: a defense that can get to that spot?
- 9:07Speaker 2: All right, So let's let's Jalen Phillips NAR fifty was
- 9:10Speaker 2: a man last night. He's got there's there's a scattered term.
- 9:14Speaker 2: It's kind of funny. I always laugh when Scott say
- 9:16Speaker 2: this thing called body beautiful. If you chiseled out an
- 9:18Speaker 2: edge rusher, it would be he. And he's a high
- 9:21Speaker 2: character guy, high motor. He dominated last night, Mike. He
- 9:25Speaker 2: was phenomenal. You know what, one league source whose job
- 9:29Speaker 2: is it's a great protape told me that he looks
- 9:32Speaker 2: to eighty back to where he was. I'm going to
- 9:35Speaker 2: get back to that guy. I want to see if
- 9:36Speaker 2: you couldn't tell that this guy had back to back
- 9:38Speaker 2: ACL and Achilles terrors because he looked phenomenal last night.
- 9:43Speaker 2: He started, by the way, but it was really interesting.
- 9:46Speaker 2: So did you notice Nolan Smith started but then Jlex
- 9:51Speaker 2: n played more snaps? I thought that was really interesting.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Nolan didn't play. I mean, he played way less than
- 9:55Speaker 1: the other guys played well.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Though Nolan looked fine when he played, only played them situationally.
- 10:01Speaker 2: But you remember he's been out a while. Jalanjown is
- 10:04Speaker 2: really coming on. That's a great story, Mike. Jalen Carter's
- 10:07Speaker 2: phenomenal last night. Get see I thought to buy. I
- 10:10Speaker 2: don't know about you, Mike. I thought the bye came
- 10:11Speaker 2: at the right time for them in week nine. I
- 10:15Speaker 2: thought it was a good time to have it. Week
- 10:17Speaker 2: four or five is not. And they need to get
- 10:20Speaker 2: those guys off their feet. And oh Joe MyD three
- 10:23Speaker 2: great rushers in the game, but Joah had a really
- 10:25Speaker 2: good game, Mike. So on your point comparing it to
- 10:29Speaker 2: last year, well, let's put it this way, Mike. And
- 10:36Speaker 2: also twenty two, they obviously set the team record with sacks.
- 10:40Speaker 2: They're not. The problem is corner opposite Mitchell. They got
- 10:43Speaker 2: away with it last night. For the life of me,
- 10:45Speaker 2: their teams would not throw out Ringo enough and he
- 10:48Speaker 2: had he got bench. But I don't know why they
- 10:50Speaker 2: didn't go against Jackson, and Jackson was okay. He gave
- 10:52Speaker 2: a one decent play. I don't understand Matt Lafleur, and
- 10:56Speaker 2: I'm not on Matt Lafleur's stand so to speak. People
- 10:59Speaker 2: have followed us. I criticized mount Lafleur relentlessly. I don't
- 11:02Speaker 2: care what his regulacy's record is. He's so damn conservative,
- 11:05Speaker 2: he's committed to balance. What did depth balance get them
- 11:08Speaker 2: last night? Not very good?
- 11:09Speaker 1: Well? And then Josh Jacobs after the game saying they
- 11:12Speaker 1: knew everything we were running. They were shouting it out there.
- 11:14Speaker 1: We heard the Ojomo you know, but Jacob said, he goes.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I knew before the play happened that I wasn't getting anything.
- 11:20Speaker 1: And so the Eagles were well prepared at least defensively
- 11:23Speaker 1: last night. At least defensive.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, they were really good. Nikoba Deean played well again.
- 11:29Speaker 2: It's just a remarkable story come back from a turn
- 11:32Speaker 2: for Keller ten and Mike, that's just hard to believe.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Uh if Kemball obviously's not gonna play as much now,
- 11:38Speaker 2: he's he's playing edge again, but just against the run.
- 11:42Speaker 2: He's really playing edge, Nickel. Uh, it's just what they're doing.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And secondary wise, Uh, mccouba was better in this game.
- 11:50Speaker 2: You know, he's had an up and down season. Mitchell
- 11:52Speaker 2: was terrific last night. You're never going to play a
- 11:55Speaker 2: perfect game at corner. They played a ton of zone
- 11:57Speaker 2: by the way, their man numbers were way down. But
- 12:00Speaker 2: overall the defense is really coming on. And think about
- 12:03Speaker 2: this way, Mike, I would look at the fans should
- 12:05Speaker 2: look at it this way. They got three new players.
- 12:07Speaker 2: They got BG in a very minor role, they got
- 12:10Speaker 2: Phillips in a major role.
- 12:11Speaker 1: After the buy real quick at him on Bgig only
- 12:16Speaker 1: played ten staffs. But I'll tell you what, they were
- 12:18Speaker 1: ten late in the game. They were all in the
- 12:19Speaker 1: fourth quarter. It seemed like I know, I know.
- 12:23Speaker 2: And they got Nolan Smith back, so they got three
- 12:25Speaker 2: new players. Think it was that way after the buye
- 12:27Speaker 2: they're fortified now they have depth at edge. Phillips is
- 12:30Speaker 2: a man, knock on what he stays healthy. He did
- 12:34Speaker 2: didn't miss a game in the first two years. And
- 12:37Speaker 2: I find it hard to believe. And I know that
- 12:40Speaker 2: the former Dolphins GM didn't make the call with cham Kelly,
- 12:43Speaker 2: the Jenerim GM, but somehow, because I know the the
- 12:46Speaker 2: the the Dolphins got, they wanted to three and out
- 12:49Speaker 2: of four, so they got a three. But the Dolphins
- 12:51Speaker 2: had to take a chunk of the cat seven million
- 12:53Speaker 2: ozer the Phillips and plus the Eagles keep it better
- 12:56Speaker 2: than the third round picks they they gave him theirs.
- 12:58Speaker 2: It's it's amazing and how he was very aggressive with
- 13:02Speaker 2: the trade deadline and it so far it's really helped.
- 13:04Speaker 1: It's it's helped out real quick. The fourth down and
- 13:08Speaker 1: sixth play, they go for it. The obvious thing to
- 13:10Speaker 1: do was punt, even if you go into the end zone,
- 13:12Speaker 1: they get the ball to twenty, they lose fifteen yards.
- 13:15Speaker 1: He says after the game. I don't have a problem
- 13:17Speaker 1: with the call, you know, I get it, he's but
- 13:20Speaker 1: do you think at all that the players just said
- 13:23Speaker 1: because there was the video of Sirianni going why why,
- 13:28Speaker 1: and it almost as if like he didn't know that
- 13:31Speaker 1: play was coming.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I honestly, now, it's funny. Nick has done this before,
- 13:39Speaker 2: when you go, what are they really going for it?
- 13:41Speaker 2: And they do and you're like wow, and they complete it.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I'm not look, I rather would have punted a braided
- 13:47Speaker 2: man there By the way he hit the one bad punt.
- 13:51Speaker 2: He's had a themo here. He's headed to at least
- 13:55Speaker 2: a Pro Bowl, and obviously Vegles hope that he won't
- 13:58Speaker 2: be playing in it because they'd be in the Super Bowl.
- 13:59Speaker 2: But the bottom line is I would have I would
- 14:02Speaker 2: have punted there. I know the wind kicked out. The
- 14:04Speaker 2: win was odd. Talking to people at the game, there
- 14:06Speaker 2: were times when the conditions are great for football, there's
- 14:09Speaker 2: sometimes it was a little shaky. I don't know what
- 14:12Speaker 2: we'll see, he talks tomorrow to the media. Yeah, I'll
- 14:15Speaker 2: be interesting to see. Sometimes Nick has been honest. He
- 14:19Speaker 2: doesn't like the second guess himself because you know, you
- 14:21Speaker 2: don't like to do that. But sometimes he brings you
- 14:25Speaker 2: inside what his thought process that actually tells the truth.
- 14:27Speaker 2: I'll be interesting if the media could extract that from him.
- 14:30Speaker 1: All right. Yeah, by the way, the Pro Bowl games
- 14:33Speaker 1: are gonna be played on Tuesday night at the Radio Row. Yes,
- 14:38Speaker 1: they are gonna be at the Radio Row wherever Radio
- 14:43Speaker 1: Row is in Santa Clair or San Francisco, at the
- 14:45Speaker 1: Mascala Center. They are doing it. Yeah, they are doing
- 14:49Speaker 1: it inside one of those like you know, big rooms
- 14:52Speaker 1: in there. It's gonna see like four thousand people and
- 14:55Speaker 1: they're playing the Pro Bowl games. Yes, yeah, it's gonna
- 14:59Speaker 1: be two Tuesday nights. Now, Adam, I will if the
- 15:02Speaker 1: Eagles go. Do you go to a radio road no
- 15:04Speaker 1: matter what, or only if the Eagles go?
- 15:07Speaker 2: No, No, I've gone to radio road for two I
- 15:09Speaker 2: have to because I cover the entire right right right.
- 15:12Speaker 1: So do you know I'm just letting you know because
- 15:14Speaker 1: I know you're a big Sixers fan. Oh yeah, Sixers
- 15:18Speaker 1: play the Warriors Tuesday night in San Francisco.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Ooh ooh. Now now we got to see how good
- 15:24Speaker 2: I did not seem It's funny because I already booked.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I already booked my flight, and the boy. The flights
- 15:30Speaker 2: to uh To to SFO surprisingly really good.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Yep.
- 15:36Speaker 2: And you know the American will add flights if Eagles
- 15:39Speaker 2: make it. That's what they do to make more money.
- 15:42Speaker 2: But yeah, look, Mike, I'm gonna say this skip before
- 15:44Speaker 2: you get it, and I told you before the started.
- 15:46Speaker 2: It's definitely true. This is a wide open year. The
- 15:49Speaker 2: quality of the thirty two teams is not great. If
- 15:53Speaker 2: you don't think the Eagles are the best team in
- 15:54Speaker 2: the NFL, you could argue with me, but they've just
- 15:58Speaker 2: as good as a chance to make the Super Bowls
- 15:59Speaker 2: and one else right now, despite the problem with the
- 16:01Speaker 2: passing game, I'm gonna say what I said last year
- 16:05Speaker 2: when I look, bleak, what's Kellen Moore in the past game? Look,
- 16:08Speaker 2: they got they had the Pittsburgh game at a couple others.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I still believe they're gonna get there. But the problem is, Mike,
- 16:14Speaker 2: why the lack of consistency from the past game. I
- 16:17Speaker 2: don't know, I don't know.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I agree with that, and we'll Friday, We'll be getting
- 16:21Speaker 1: ready for the Eagles and the Lions, which is maybe
- 16:24Speaker 1: the biggest game of the season right now. The Lions
- 16:26Speaker 1: first place Sunday Night Football. The Lions are in first
- 16:30Speaker 1: place in the North. The Eagles did in first place
- 16:32Speaker 1: in the conference, and of course you can listen to
- 16:35Speaker 1: that game right here on ninety seven three ESPN. Those
- 16:37Speaker 1: guys will have more coverage over on the Inside of
- 16:39Speaker 1: the Birds podcast, which you can get on all podcasting platforms.
