- 0:30Speaker 2: Good morning, everybody, Happy Friday. How's everybody feeling.
- 0:35Speaker 3: It's not as cold as you apparently, Crystal?
- 0:37Speaker 4: Yeah, the only hands here.
- 0:41Speaker 5: I don't really know. Is that like a thing you
- 0:42Speaker 5: do normally? I haven't really.
- 0:45Speaker 4: As a viewer, I can confirm it's when she locks in?
- 0:48Speaker 5: Wow, Oh really, I just did it excellently well on
- 0:51Speaker 5: the on the lookout for then.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I'm learning about myself today. I thank you, Griffin.
- 0:57Speaker 4: A lot to look out for on this Friday show, guys,
- 1:00Speaker 4: should we start just with some quick breaking news that
- 1:02Speaker 4: came right across our desk, hop right into it.
- 1:04Speaker 5: Yeah, this is a big one.
- 1:05Speaker 2: So Don Lemon has been arrested in La and I
- 1:10Speaker 2: just saw this come across Twitter. I don't know if
- 1:12Speaker 2: you guys saw the specific Dad. He was charged with
- 1:14Speaker 2: conspiracy to deprive rights. This is in the context of
- 1:18Speaker 2: that church protest that he covered on his live stream
- 1:24Speaker 2: Saga and I talked about this when it happened. Go ahead,
- 1:27Speaker 2: put that back up on the screen, Griffin, because I
- 1:29Speaker 2: do want to read a bit from this. This is
- 1:32Speaker 2: the statement from his lawyer, Abby Lowll, who's very well known.
- 1:36Speaker 2: He says Don Lemon was taken into custody by federal
- 1:38Speaker 2: agents last night in La where he was covering the
- 1:40Speaker 2: Grammy Awards. Don has been a journalist for thirty years.
- 1:42Speaker 2: His constitutionally protected work in Minneapolis was no different than
- 1:46Speaker 2: what he has always done. The First Amendment exists to
- 1:48Speaker 2: protect journalists whose role it is to shine light on
- 1:50Speaker 2: the truth and hold those in power accountable. There is
- 1:53Speaker 2: no more important time for people like Don to be
- 1:54Speaker 2: doing this work. Instead of investigating the federal agents who
- 1:57Speaker 2: killed two peaceful Minnesota protesters, Trump Justice Department is devoting
- 2:01Speaker 2: its time attention and resources to this arrest, and that
- 2:04Speaker 2: is the real indictment of wrongdoing in this case. This
- 2:07Speaker 2: unprecedented attack on the First Amendment and transparent attempt to
- 2:10Speaker 2: distract attention from the many crises facing this administration will
- 2:13Speaker 2: not stand. Don will fight these charges vigorously and thoroughly
- 2:16Speaker 2: in court. Worth noting here in addition that they attempted
- 2:20Speaker 2: to charge him to get charges filed against him previously,
- 2:24Speaker 2: and the magistrate judge that looked at the charges you
- 2:27Speaker 2: know against Don Lemon and the charges against they attempted
- 2:30Speaker 2: to charge eight of the protesters who also came into
- 2:34Speaker 2: the building. The judge refused to sign off on the
- 2:37Speaker 2: charges against Don Lemon because he did not feel that
- 2:40Speaker 2: there was sufficient evidence presented. There were only three of
- 2:43Speaker 2: the protesters who actually ended up being charged based on
- 2:46Speaker 2: that judge's assessment. So now they've decided to you know,
- 2:49Speaker 2: Van paneled a grand jury and they went through this
- 2:51Speaker 2: process and now you have these charges against Don Lemon.
- 2:54Speaker 5: We covered this. Sagar and I had.
- 2:56Speaker 2: A spirited debate about the protest itself, although you know,
- 3:00Speaker 2: he I think more or less agreed with my assessment
- 3:02Speaker 2: that Don Lemon. However, we feel about him was there
- 3:06Speaker 2: as a journalist, He was not protesting. In fact, I
- 3:09Speaker 2: watched a good bit of his coverage. He talked to
- 3:12Speaker 2: people who were in the church, He talked to the pastor,
- 3:14Speaker 2: he talked to the protesters, He asked them challenging questions.
- 3:17Speaker 2: He asked challenging questions of everybody there. It's clear he
- 3:20Speaker 2: has a perspective, as do we. That doesn't mean that
- 3:23Speaker 2: he wasn't acting as a journalist at that point. Journalists
- 3:26Speaker 2: get tip offs all the time of news events that
- 3:29Speaker 2: are going to happen. That's what occurred in this case.
- 3:32Speaker 2: That's why he was there. And everyone, I don't care
- 3:34Speaker 2: where you are in the political spectrum, if you care
- 3:36Speaker 2: about the First Amendment, if you care about journalism, you
- 3:39Speaker 2: have to stand up against this abuse because this is
- 3:42Speaker 2: absolutely an outrageous attack on journalism.
- 3:47Speaker 6: I'm in the wild minority, I think on the right
- 3:51Speaker 6: now and when it comes to the Don Lemon thing,
- 3:53Speaker 6: because for the part of the reason that Krystal was
- 3:56Speaker 6: saying just now is journalists do get tip offs all
- 3:59Speaker 6: the time. Tips off Is it like attorney's general tip
- 4:02Speaker 6: offs all of the time where you are being you
- 4:06Speaker 6: know something's going to happen, and then you can see
- 4:08Speaker 6: how if you set the precedent of saying, because Don
- 4:10Speaker 6: Lemon knew X, Y and Z was going to take
- 4:13Speaker 6: place in order to kind of follow it around, he
- 4:15Speaker 6: is then an active participant. By the way, the government
- 4:18Speaker 6: has informants who do that all the time. That's kind
- 4:20Speaker 6: of another question. And if you start setting that precedent.
- 4:26Speaker 6: It happened to a guy named Steve Baker from The
- 4:28Speaker 6: Blaze on January sixth, and he had a hell of
- 4:31Speaker 6: a fight to get out of that. And I just
- 4:34Speaker 6: think that's you know, it's as someone who's on the
- 4:38Speaker 6: right and goes to protests and stuff, sometimes you just
- 4:42Speaker 6: can realize how or you realize how quickly. Like I'm
- 4:45Speaker 6: open to the evidence that Don Lemon was more of
- 4:47Speaker 6: a conspirator if it exists, I haven't seen it.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I'm not convinced by any of it.
- 4:51Speaker 6: In his live stream, he says, I'm here as a
- 4:54Speaker 6: journalist to document what's going on as goofy as Don
- 4:57Speaker 6: Lemon is.
- 4:59Speaker 3: He did make that clear.
- 5:00Speaker 6: And so if just getting a tip and following it
- 5:04Speaker 6: with a live stream makes you complicit in a protest,
- 5:08Speaker 6: I just don't honestly don't think that's worth it. You
- 5:10Speaker 6: can maybe make the like a ham Sandwich prosecution where
- 5:13Speaker 6: you have this like technical case against Don Lemon, like
- 5:15Speaker 6: he knew this was happening and because there's something in
- 5:17Speaker 6: the law blah blah blah. But it's just it's absolutely
- 5:21Speaker 6: not worth it, because that's going to be turn around
- 5:24Speaker 6: so fast, you know, on Nick Sorder or any of
- 5:28Speaker 6: those other people who are bopping around Minneapolis.
- 5:32Speaker 3: If there's a Democratic president.
- 5:35Speaker 5: What do you think, Greff.
- 5:37Speaker 4: I mean, listen, a huge Don Lemon fan here. I'm jealous.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Lemonhead is what he calls them.
- 5:42Speaker 4: He's about to get a lot of new subscriptions. We
- 5:44Speaker 4: should get one of our hosts arrested maybe and get
- 5:47Speaker 4: some new traffic to the show. Yeah, obviously it's I
- 5:51Speaker 4: don't know what the justification is. Seems like Emily has
- 5:55Speaker 4: there always been like this odd sort of Republican hang
- 5:58Speaker 4: up over Don Lemon's specific like did he do something
- 6:01Speaker 4: like what was his original sin against Trump that he can't.
- 6:07Speaker 3: He was he was one of.
- 6:09Speaker 6: The most egregiously like it's just egregiously anti Trump forces
- 6:18Speaker 6: at CNN during Trump one point zero, he was doing
- 6:21Speaker 6: those handoffs with Chris Cuomo at the height of the
- 6:23Speaker 6: like uh, CNN effort to do the apples and bananas thing,
- 6:29Speaker 6: like some people will try to tell you that this
- 6:31Speaker 6: is a banana, but it's an apple, and they were
- 6:33Speaker 6: pretending to be like neutral observers of the whole thing.
- 6:36Speaker 6: And so I think that's where he got under everyone's
- 6:39Speaker 6: skin most but lemon is an has an interesting history
- 6:42Speaker 6: and that Christly you'll remember because I think you were
- 6:44Speaker 6: at MSNBC at the time during like og BLM, he
- 6:50Speaker 6: was a little a little more conservative.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Now he did a lot of black respectability politics, like
- 6:56Speaker 2: pull up your pants type of like mind the Right,
- 6:58Speaker 2: which was.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Guy that virals like that. They would make it.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Viralbsolutely, which is why when he got fired from CNN.
- 7:06Speaker 2: And I think the reason he got fired, if memory serves,
- 7:10Speaker 2: was over remember those comments he made about Nikki Haley
- 7:12Speaker 2: not being in her prime or whatever, Like I think
- 7:14Speaker 2: that was the precipitating event. There might have been some
- 7:16Speaker 2: other things that came out, anyway, that was what facility
- 7:18Speaker 2: precipitated his exit. And I was like, this is a
- 7:21Speaker 2: perfect setup for him to grift to the right, right.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I mean, he has this black you know, that he
- 7:25Speaker 2: could be the model minority.
- 7:27Speaker 5: He got fired.
- 7:29Speaker 2: For these like for this crazy PC woke reason, and
- 7:33Speaker 2: you know, and there would have been a huge lane
- 7:37Speaker 2: available for him, much easier for him to make it
- 7:40Speaker 2: there than to succeed, you know, continuing in the liberal lane.
- 7:44Speaker 2: To his credit, in my opinion, he has stayed in
- 7:48Speaker 2: like a liberal you know, political positioning. And I mean,
- 7:52Speaker 2: I think his channel is doing fairly well. I think
- 7:55Speaker 2: it's been relatively successful. I haven't checked in on like
- 7:57Speaker 2: all the numbers or whatever. Anyway, all of this is
- 8:00Speaker 2: really far afield from the fact that you know, as
- 8:03Speaker 2: Don Lemon is going to be fine. He's a wealthy guy,
- 8:06Speaker 2: he's got a great lawyer. This I think is an
- 8:08Speaker 2: outrageous assault on the First Amendment. The point isn't so
- 8:12Speaker 2: much about Don Lemon, but it's about every other journalist
- 8:16Speaker 2: and independent journalist in particular, who now has to consider
- 8:19Speaker 2: whether covering this protest is going to land them in
- 8:22Speaker 2: hot water with the administration. I mean, it's one more
- 8:25Speaker 2: example of them using, whether it's the law or the
- 8:28Speaker 2: university system or their secret police, you know, the mass
- 8:32Speaker 2: thugs in the street, all of these mechanisms to crush
- 8:36Speaker 2: any sort of dissent. Trump himself has basically come out
- 8:39Speaker 2: and said that he thinks it should be illegal to
- 8:41Speaker 2: criticize him, and that is the way they're acting here.
- 8:43Speaker 2: So Don Lemon getting charged here again. I don't care
- 8:47Speaker 2: how you feel about Don Lemon. I don't care whether
- 8:48Speaker 2: you agree with his politics or not. Should journalists be
- 8:52Speaker 2: able to go and cover protests, even controversial ones, right,
- 8:56Speaker 2: even ones that may violate the law. For me, watching
- 9:00Speaker 2: his live stream, I actually got a lot out of it, because,
- 9:04Speaker 2: you know, it would be easy for me, as a
- 9:06Speaker 2: leftist to have a very stereotypical view of the congregants
- 9:09Speaker 2: in that church, and instead I had to actually deal
- 9:13Speaker 2: with who they were as human beings. Some of them
- 9:15Speaker 2: said to him, like, look, I actually might agree with
- 9:18Speaker 2: some of the points of the protesters, I just really
- 9:19Speaker 2: disagree with them doing this here and now in my church.
- 9:23Speaker 2: So it made it more difficult for me to have
- 9:26Speaker 2: a very flat and stereotypical view of what unfolded there,
- 9:30Speaker 2: and so that is you know, he added something important
- 9:34Speaker 2: to the understanding of that day. Frankly, I think he
- 9:37Speaker 2: gave it was probably more beneficial to the right than
- 9:40Speaker 2: it was to the left to have those images and
- 9:43Speaker 2: that video from inside the church while they were doing
- 9:46Speaker 2: that action on that day. So in any case, you know,
- 9:49Speaker 2: I'm not holding my breath for a lot of people
- 9:51Speaker 2: to be principled like you, Emily on the right, and
- 9:54Speaker 2: you know all the people who five seconds ago were
- 9:56Speaker 2: free speech bros. I am very doubtful that they're going
- 10:00Speaker 2: to be out there defending the honor of Don Lemon.
- 10:02Speaker 5: But they should be.
- 10:03Speaker 2: They absolutely should be, and not just because there's a
- 10:06Speaker 2: possibility that a future AOC is going to go after
- 10:09Speaker 2: them in the same way, but just because of the
- 10:12Speaker 2: principle of the thing. You either support these rights that
- 10:16Speaker 2: were supposedly, you know, make our country so great, or
- 10:18Speaker 2: you don't.
- 10:19Speaker 5: And that's the bottom line for me.
- 10:21Speaker 3: And this is the Steve Baker case. I'm sharing an
- 10:23Speaker 3: Associated Press article from the time. So Baker actually ended
- 10:26Speaker 3: up pleading guilty, he said, to avoid the shame of
- 10:29Speaker 3: a trial and all of that. But this is the
- 10:33Speaker 3: Capitol Police.
- 10:34Speaker 6: He was actually just like he went through you can
- 10:36Speaker 6: see here he went through a broken door and quote
- 10:40Speaker 6: joined the mob at the barricaded doors to the House chamber.
- 10:43Speaker 3: He was documenting it the entire time.
- 10:46Speaker 6: He said that the affidavit against him said that he
- 10:49Speaker 6: quote antagonized police officers asking are you going to use
- 10:53Speaker 6: that gun on us, et cetera.
- 10:56Speaker 3: But again he was there like covering it.
- 11:00Speaker 6: And so it's one of those things where I think,
- 11:04Speaker 6: because that happened to someone on the right, there's this
- 11:08Speaker 6: idea that it's more acceptable than to go after Don
- 11:11Speaker 6: Lemon because the next Democratic administration won't learn not to
- 11:17Speaker 6: go after a Steve Baker in the future. Like you
- 11:20Speaker 6: can go back and look at the videos that Baker
- 11:22Speaker 6: was taking at the time. I think it's all but
- 11:24Speaker 6: it was obviously an over prosecution.
- 11:26Speaker 3: But that's just not true.
- 11:29Speaker 6: Like it's you can win in the court of public opinion,
- 11:33Speaker 6: and you can win in elections, and you can make
- 11:35Speaker 6: these issues front and center without you know, taking the
- 11:40Speaker 6: same low road.
- 11:41Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean I don't like it.
- 11:43Speaker 2: The most basic kindergarten lessons either, like two wrongs don't
- 11:46Speaker 2: make a right, guys, And guess what, when you normalize
- 11:49Speaker 2: this type of behavior, you make it more likely, not
- 11:51Speaker 2: less that you're not like teaching anyone a lesson. The
- 11:54Speaker 2: lesson you're teaching them is, oh, we will do anything,
- 11:58Speaker 2: We will use any lever of power that we possibly can,
- 12:01Speaker 2: so maybe you need to think about doing the same.
- 12:04Speaker 6: So I was when I was on the outside of
- 12:07Speaker 6: the Capitol in January sixth, I had no idea what
- 12:09Speaker 6: was about to happen. I followed everyone from the ellipse
- 12:11Speaker 6: and was literally like talking to people, what.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Are you doing, where are you here, where you're from?
- 12:15Speaker 6: And get up to the Capitol and see this melee
- 12:19Speaker 6: and I was get like I wanted to go in
- 12:22Speaker 6: the building because I didn't know if reporters were in
- 12:24Speaker 6: the building. And yeah, someone very wise said like, just
- 12:27Speaker 6: don't go in. There are reporters in the building, don't
- 12:30Speaker 6: do it. And I am so honestly so grateful for
- 12:33Speaker 6: that because of what happened to Baker, for example, because
- 12:35Speaker 6: he's a conservative. He was I think pretty clearly targeted
- 12:38Speaker 6: because he was one of the conservatives there. Like the
- 12:41Speaker 6: Capital Press Corps, they're fine because they're there every day,
- 12:45Speaker 6: people know who they are.
- 12:46Speaker 3: That's fine, But I am honestly grateful for that.
- 12:49Speaker 6: I'm sure my data was like swept up in all
- 12:51Speaker 6: of the you know, dragnet that they applied because they
- 12:54Speaker 6: were geotagging stuff. But it's something that you actually have
- 12:57Speaker 6: to think about now, and I think that sucks, whether
- 12:59Speaker 6: you're Don Lemon or Steve Baker.
- 13:01Speaker 5: Yeah, all right.
- 13:02Speaker 2: We had a bunch of red carpet moments last night,
- 13:05Speaker 2: Griffin right at the glitzy Milania movie premiere.
- 13:10Speaker 6: M m.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Yes, everyone who is anyone was there on the red carpet,
- 13:14Speaker 4: and it was just a quintessential Trump moment to not
- 13:17Speaker 4: only be promoting a film that is self grandizing about
- 13:22Speaker 4: his own family, but to also be dealing with all
- 13:26Speaker 4: of the world's issues. There are a lot of different
- 13:30Speaker 4: topics here that he tackled on the red carpet, But
- 13:32Speaker 4: I wanted to start with Tulsi Gabbard. He was asked
- 13:36Speaker 4: why Tulsi was at an election center in Georgia. Gabert
- 13:41Speaker 4: doing at.
- 13:42Speaker 5: An election center in Georgia today.
- 13:44Speaker 6: She's working very hard on trying to keep the election
- 13:46Speaker 6: safe and she's done a very good job.
- 13:48Speaker 4: And they you know, they got into the votes.
- 13:52Speaker 2: You got to sign Judge's order in Georgia and you
- 13:55Speaker 2: to see some interesting things happening.
- 13:57Speaker 4: They've been trying to get there for a low We're
- 14:01Speaker 4: gonna start seeing some interesting things happening there now. Tulsi,
- 14:04Speaker 4: it's been reported has been tasked over the last few
- 14:07Speaker 4: months with investigating this twenty twenty election. What do we
- 14:12Speaker 4: make of all that?
- 14:13Speaker 2: What do you think, Emily I got to talk about
- 14:15Speaker 2: this on yesterday.
- 14:18Speaker 6: It's the Trump himself, I mean just Tolci Gbert's side.
- 14:22Speaker 6: Trump has been posting absolutely like bonker stuff on truth
- 14:26Speaker 6: social about twenty twenty, like going deep into the kind
- 14:30Speaker 6: of stuff that actually got Fox in such hot water,
- 14:33Speaker 6: like Italian voting machines. I don't even know, Like the
- 14:37Speaker 6: conspiracy theories are so rich that I asked, like, there,
- 14:41Speaker 6: you have.
- 14:41Speaker 2: To do some new ones for me too. I was like, oh,
- 14:43Speaker 2: I didn't even know that was something that people say, Well.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Well to that point before, not to interrupt your just
- 14:48Speaker 4: to that point. ABC has reported where some of these
- 14:51Speaker 4: election conspiracies might be coming from, and apparently there's someone
- 14:57Speaker 4: known as the Heiress that is dropping some of these
- 15:00Speaker 4: conspiracy theories. Over late Wednesday night, the president reposted to
- 15:04Speaker 4: a social media platform and claimed that Italian military satellites
- 15:08Speaker 4: had been used to hack into US voting machines to
- 15:10Speaker 4: flip votes from Trump to Joe Biden. As documented in
- 15:14Speaker 4: a twenty twenty one book, betrayal the final act of
- 15:16Speaker 4: the Trump Show. The conspiracy theory was brought to the
- 15:18Speaker 4: White House by a woman who went by several aliases,
- 15:22Speaker 4: including the Heiress, and was known at the Pentagon for
- 15:25Speaker 4: her claim ties to Somali pirates. Huh, yes, I told
- 15:33Speaker 4: you guys, don't sell on Somemali's She passed her material
- 15:38Speaker 4: off to a National Security Council official at a supermarket
- 15:41Speaker 4: parking lot in Arlington. So the Heiress is now in charge.
- 15:47Speaker 2: I remember there was some woman who was like, I think,
- 15:49Speaker 2: sending emails to Tucker Carlson who thought who said she
- 15:52Speaker 2: was like a spirit ghost or something like that. That was,
- 15:56Speaker 2: you know, pushing some of the last the election conspiracies
- 15:59Speaker 2: the first time around. The memory serves there was something
- 16:01Speaker 2: like that that was going on.
- 16:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I will say, first of all, like
- 16:06Speaker 6: Fulton County in twenty twenty was an absolute mess. The
- 16:09Speaker 6: New York Times described what happened on election night is
- 16:11Speaker 6: like a quote meltdown in Fulton County at the time,
- 16:13Speaker 6: and there were.
- 16:14Speaker 3: A total disaster. Apparently.
- 16:16Speaker 6: My understanding of this is that they're looking for these
- 16:18Speaker 6: quote zero tapes. I guess the search weren't according to
- 16:21Speaker 6: I think Cleedom Mitchell's conservative attorneys been involved in this stuff.
- 16:26Speaker 6: That's what part of the search weren't was for, and
- 16:28Speaker 6: that's recording early votes. And so there's also let me
- 16:32Speaker 6: pull up this, Yeah, so Fulton County. This is a
- 16:37Speaker 6: headline in the Federalists from December, quote, we don't dispute
- 16:39Speaker 6: three hundred and fifteen thousand votes lacking poll worker signatures
- 16:42Speaker 6: were counted in twenty twenty, so they might be looking
- 16:45Speaker 6: for something like that.
- 16:46Speaker 3: I haven't gone deep into it personally, but because even
- 16:50Speaker 3: if you like, so if you say.
- 16:52Speaker 6: Georgia had significant error, so one thing that did happen
- 16:56Speaker 6: is there were more votes counted than the margin. There
- 16:59Speaker 6: were more votes counted that were from addresses outside of county,
- 17:03Speaker 6: so like people had moved that then the margin of
- 17:06Speaker 6: victory for Biden and Georgia in twenty twenty. But those
- 17:08Speaker 6: are legitimate votes, meaning like they're real people. It wasn't
- 17:11Speaker 6: like fake people. It was just that they hadn't registered properly.
- 17:15Speaker 6: So but even if you give Georgia in the Biden column,
- 17:18Speaker 6: he like that's it's you still have to like make
- 17:20Speaker 6: up in other states too. So I don't think people
- 17:23Speaker 6: will have confidence that a gabbered probe into Fulton County
- 17:30Speaker 6: is going to bear fruit. And I hate the I
- 17:33Speaker 6: hate the twenty twenty election stuff because Ben Sas and
- 17:36Speaker 6: I know people on the right hate Ben Sas, but
- 17:38Speaker 6: he put it really well in a statement after January sixth,
- 17:43Speaker 6: which is that Trump had been quote playing with fire
- 17:47Speaker 6: by and that's maybe even an understatement by flirting with
- 17:50Speaker 6: the Sidney Powell stuff, promoting the Sidney Powell stuff and
- 17:54Speaker 6: all of that, because you're just asking You're telling people
- 17:58Speaker 6: that an election was was dole and outright from under
- 18:02Speaker 6: their noses. So of course people are going to storm
- 18:05Speaker 6: the Capitol, like that's what you're asking for when you
- 18:08Speaker 6: are so reckless with what you're as the President of
- 18:11Speaker 6: the United States putting out into the public domain.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:14Speaker 2: I mean in terms of Georgia, right, every election, because
- 18:20Speaker 2: they are run by localities, there are going to be
- 18:22Speaker 2: some places where things do not go smoothly. Okay, this
- 18:26Speaker 2: is the reality of democracy in America. Georgia at the
- 18:30Speaker 2: time and to this day, was run by a Republican
- 18:33Speaker 2: governor Republican secretary of State. There was a recount in Georgia,
- 18:37Speaker 2: and guess what It all turned out fine. There were
- 18:40Speaker 2: no problems there that had you know, that came anywhere
- 18:44Speaker 2: close to the margin by which Trump lost. You'll recall
- 18:47Speaker 2: you had that infamous phone call with Brad Robinsburg, find
- 18:50Speaker 2: me eleven thousand votes.
- 18:52Speaker 5: Okay, So there's that.
- 18:54Speaker 2: You had Rudy Giuliani who went out and defamed some
- 18:58Speaker 2: of these election were who are just like I mean,
- 19:01Speaker 2: I'm sure I don't I know.
- 19:02Speaker 5: The ladies who work my polling place right.
- 19:04Speaker 2: These are usually like elderly women who volunteer their time
- 19:08Speaker 2: because they believe in the civic good. And he went
- 19:10Speaker 2: out there and attacked them and made them they like
- 19:13Speaker 2: they were some you know, great villains and fraudsters. They
- 19:16Speaker 2: won I think one hundred and eighty six million dollar
- 19:19Speaker 2: defamation claim against him. There were, of course, so many
- 19:23Speaker 2: lawsuits that Sagur and I covered extensively at the time
- 19:26Speaker 2: from the Trump administration trying to push their claims in court.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Not a single one of them was found to have
- 19:32Speaker 2: any veracity. I hate that I'm even having to say
- 19:35Speaker 2: this at this point, like, really, people, can we please
- 19:37Speaker 2: move the fuck on? But the most optimistic are the
- 19:42Speaker 2: most hopeful take on what is going on here is
- 19:45Speaker 2: that you know, this is Tulcy Gabbard, who's been sidelined,
- 19:48Speaker 2: trying to get back into Trump's good graces by doing
- 19:51Speaker 2: some bullshit. And it was the US attorney in Missouri
- 19:54Speaker 2: who signed off on this, who apparently has been given
- 19:57Speaker 2: this charge to like, you know, go back and relitigate
- 19:59Speaker 2: the twenty two the election everywhere, and is you know,
- 20:02Speaker 2: a partisan lackey there in Missouri. So in any case,
- 20:06Speaker 2: the most optimistic thing is that this is a stupid
- 20:10Speaker 2: Trump boondoggle that is not really going to impact much
- 20:13Speaker 2: of anything, and it's just about Tolsi trying to get
- 20:16Speaker 2: back in his good graces. The more concerning analysis, which
- 20:20Speaker 2: everybody has to be worried about, given the fact that
- 20:22Speaker 2: this man already has a track record of trying to
- 20:25Speaker 2: steal an election, given that this man just said that
- 20:28Speaker 2: he regrets not having the National Guard sees the ballot boxes,
- 20:33Speaker 2: is that this is an attempt to take control of
- 20:36Speaker 2: state and county election machinery. This is a test run
- 20:40Speaker 2: for how much can we get away with how much
- 20:42Speaker 2: sort of like you know, smoke and mirrors and problems
- 20:45Speaker 2: can we cause leading up to twenty twenty six and
- 20:48Speaker 2: ultimately twenty twenty eight. In twenty twenty six, John Ossoff
- 20:52Speaker 2: is the most endangered Democrat running. I think he's got
- 20:55Speaker 2: a good shot of, you know, winning re election if
- 20:57Speaker 2: things are free and fair. But apparently that's big. If
- 21:01Speaker 2: there is a Georgia election law that was passed in
- 21:03Speaker 2: the wake of twenty twenty that allows Republicans in the
- 21:07Speaker 2: state to take control its passed through a Republican legislature
- 21:10Speaker 2: to take control of county election boards, if there are
- 21:13Speaker 2: some sort of like investigations or some claims of malfeasance
- 21:16Speaker 2: and fraud that are made. So there's an Atlanta Journal
- 21:19Speaker 2: Constitution piece out that's arguing that this is all about
- 21:23Speaker 2: trying to seize control of the Fulton County election board
- 21:26Speaker 2: by Trump loyalists, and god only knows what that could mean.
- 21:31Speaker 2: So again, Georgia being a key state and that being
- 21:33Speaker 2: a key Senate race coming up, those are the things
- 21:36Speaker 2: that people should be very, very concerned about as they
- 21:39Speaker 2: watch this all unfold.
- 21:40Speaker 4: To that point, Christill, we've got from the Washington Street
- 21:43Speaker 4: Journal here Wall Street Journal. Sorry. Gabbard has consulted with
- 21:47Speaker 4: others in the intelligence community about claims of foreign interference
- 21:50Speaker 4: in the twenty twenty election, the official said, though she
- 21:52Speaker 4: hasn't provided the public with new evidence of it, she's
- 21:54Speaker 4: expected to repair a report on her work that people
- 21:57Speaker 4: said the administration has discussed executive orders on voting ahead
- 22:02Speaker 4: of the mid term elections. Two of the officials set, so, yes,
- 22:06Speaker 4: it seems to be not only a sort of humiliation
- 22:09Speaker 4: tour for Tulsey, but a test run for all that
- 22:14Speaker 4: good stuff coming up in the future. Emily, how far
- 22:17Speaker 4: do you think they'll go for the mid terms as
- 22:19Speaker 4: opposed to a twenty twenty eight.
- 22:21Speaker 6: Well, yeah, I mean, so this is why you know,
- 22:23Speaker 6: I can't dismiss what Kristal is saying about potential interference
- 22:30Speaker 6: coming up, like what this could grow into because Trump
- 22:35Speaker 6: is himself a wild card. And let me just read
- 22:38Speaker 6: here from Margot Cleveland, who's a conservative attorney who's followed the.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Georgia stuff very very closely. She wrote.
- 22:44Speaker 6: In twenty twenty, Joe Biden won the Georgia general election
- 22:47Speaker 6: by eleven seven hundred and seventy nine votes out of
- 22:49Speaker 6: nearly five million bollots cast. Following the election, Trump filed
- 22:52Speaker 6: suit in a Fulton County state court arguing approximately thirty
- 22:55Speaker 6: five thousand Georgians may have illegally voted in a county
- 22:57Speaker 6: in which they did not reside, goes on to then say,
- 23:00Speaker 6: after the November twenty twenty election, Mark Davis, the president
- 23:03Speaker 6: of Data Productions, Inc. And an expert in voter data
- 23:05Speaker 6: analytics and residency issues, pulled from the US Postal Services
- 23:08Speaker 6: National Change of Address database and cross reference that information
- 23:12Speaker 6: with records from the Georgia's Secretary.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Of State's office.
- 23:14Speaker 6: His analysis showed that nearly thirty five thousand Georgia voters
- 23:17Speaker 6: who had moved from one Georgia county to another voted
- 23:19Speaker 6: in the twenty twenty general election in the county from
- 23:21Speaker 6: which they have moved. So all that is to say,
- 23:26Speaker 6: there's a world in which the Fulton County probe is
- 23:33Speaker 6: restricted to like this type of like clerical question about
- 23:39Speaker 6: what happened and where you know they may have aired.
- 23:44Speaker 6: It's a lot for the federal government to get involved
- 23:46Speaker 6: and read the offices and all of that.
- 23:49Speaker 3: So maybe maybe you have a totally.
- 23:53Speaker 6: Responsible, targeted investigation, but I don't think that's if I'm
- 24:00Speaker 6: looking at how Donald Trump reacted in twenty twenty to
- 24:03Speaker 6: the election with the Sydney Powellism and all of that.
- 24:05Speaker 6: And by the way, Ryan and I talked about this Maduro.
- 24:09Speaker 6: Trump has since said that they're not talking to Maduro
- 24:12Speaker 6: about potential dominion voting machine stuff, but some of this
- 24:18Speaker 6: goes directly back to Maduro, and it's possible that they
- 24:23Speaker 6: could be. I mean, Trump has said no, but it's
- 24:26Speaker 6: possible that some of this is coming from information that
- 24:30Speaker 6: they're trying to follow, like foreign interference. Is it because
- 24:32Speaker 6: they've been talking to Maduro about certain things?
- 24:35Speaker 3: Like there was this is a funny story.
- 24:39Speaker 6: When I was on the floor of the RNC, actually
- 24:41Speaker 6: of the media area of the RNC in twenty twenty four,
- 24:45Speaker 6: Rudy someone came up to Ruddy Giuliani and introduced themselves
- 24:49Speaker 6: and he could not like process the information for whatever reason.
- 24:53Speaker 6: And they said they were from Pennsylvania and he was like,
- 24:56Speaker 6: I was just overhearing this, and he was like, oh, Venezuela,
- 25:00Speaker 6: guys are responsible.
- 25:01Speaker 3: For all the voting.
- 25:02Speaker 6: And the guy was like Pennsylvania and he was like, yes, Venezuela.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Anyway, so you have to be dealt with.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Yeah. I thought about the Madero thing too. I mean,
- 25:15Speaker 2: the the fact that Tulsi is involved is a signal
- 25:18Speaker 2: that it's not going to be some responsible, narrow look
- 25:21Speaker 2: at potential clerical issues from the twenty twenty I mean
- 25:25Speaker 2: of everything argues against that, But Tulsi's involvement, given that
- 25:29Speaker 2: she is the Director of National Intelligence, tells you that
- 25:33Speaker 2: they are exploring some sort of bonkers Venezuela, Italian, Chinese
- 25:40Speaker 2: whatever conspiracy theory, which again, as Griffin started the segment
- 25:43Speaker 2: by saying, Trump is posting or maybe you said it, Emily,
- 25:46Speaker 2: Trump is posting these insane things on true social right now,
- 25:50Speaker 2: so we know where his mind is at and what
- 25:52Speaker 2: he's looking to get on of this.
- 25:53Speaker 3: And this is part of the problem with like the
- 25:55Speaker 3: Trump era in general, is that the dominion voting situation
- 25:59Speaker 3: in venezuel Like it is legitimate, Like why the story
- 26:03Speaker 3: of the voting machines is just like, it's so stupid
- 26:05Speaker 3: and ridiculous.
- 26:06Speaker 4: The story of.
- 26:07Speaker 6: Fulton County in twenty twenty, it's so stupid and ridiculous.
- 26:09Speaker 6: But then it gets built into this crazy like conspiracy
- 26:14Speaker 6: theory about foreign actors and a concerted effort to steal
- 26:18Speaker 6: the election from Donald Trump with counting mismatched county residencies
- 26:26Speaker 6: and all of that and you just put the picture
- 26:28Speaker 6: together the way that Trump talks about it or Sidney
- 26:31Speaker 6: Powell was talking about it, and you're like.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Holy smokes.
- 26:33Speaker 6: But because there are these like origin stories that if
- 26:36Speaker 6: you can pull up the thread, you're like, why are
- 26:38Speaker 6: we doing because we did so many stupid things, it's
- 26:41Speaker 6: it makes it more powerful with people who want to
- 26:43Speaker 6: believe that there was some grand conspiracy to have people
- 26:48Speaker 6: in Georgia like vote where they shouldn't be because they
- 26:51Speaker 6: moved six months ago or something like that.
- 26:53Speaker 3: So that great.
- 26:55Speaker 4: The twenty twenty stuff is going to look cute when
- 26:58Speaker 4: we go to twenty twenty eight. In every cat you know,
- 27:00Speaker 4: every county clerk is on polymarket betting for the election.
- 27:04Speaker 4: So it's a really good point.
- 27:05Speaker 3: That's a really.
- 27:06Speaker 4: Every election is going to be the most trusted election
- 27:09Speaker 4: of all time and compared to twenty twenty eight. So
- 27:12Speaker 4: get excited for that, everybody. So we want to move
- 27:16Speaker 4: on to a little more ice stuff. So Trump was
- 27:18Speaker 4: asked about Springfield, Ohio. Now Springfield, Ohio, for those who
- 27:23Speaker 4: don't remember, was the eating the cats and dogs topic
- 27:29Speaker 4: during the twenty twenty four election. JD Vance announcing directional
- 27:34Speaker 4: truth as sort of a strategy for the Trump administration
- 27:39Speaker 4: that I thought was quite honest. But now Trump was
- 27:42Speaker 4: asked if Ice is going to be going into Springfield
- 27:47Speaker 4: to I guess start deporting the Haitian population that lives there.
- 27:53Speaker 4: Let's take a listen.
- 27:54Speaker 3: I mean already, well, let we see what's happening.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Springfield is not a happy place with what they did Springfield.
- 28:05Speaker 5: I love Springfield, Ohio.
- 28:06Speaker 4: I won Springfield, Ohio.
- 28:07Speaker 2: But yeah, during the Biden administration they did great damage
- 28:12Speaker 2: to Springfield.
- 28:14Speaker 4: So we've got that here, and before we react to that,
- 28:17Speaker 4: I also wanted to pull up the House. Democrats have
- 28:19Speaker 4: released a new set of demands for what they want
- 28:24Speaker 4: DHS to change and if they're going to fund them
- 28:29Speaker 4: and the government. Some of the bullet point list here
- 28:32Speaker 4: if you can't see it on screen. Ensure icen CBP
- 28:34Speaker 4: immediately leave Minneapolis and stop terrorizing citizens and arrest without
- 28:39Speaker 4: judicial warrants. Ensure full and pendent transparent into investigations into
- 28:43Speaker 4: DHS related shootings and detention and deportation of US citizens.
- 28:48Speaker 4: What a big ask. And the anonymity of federal agents.
- 28:52Speaker 4: Ensure robust minimum standards at detention facilities. Those are the
- 28:57Speaker 4: main ones. Here. What are we to expect with what
- 29:00Speaker 4: seems to be the upcoming Springfield raid.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Well, I think it's worth noting, you know, most of
- 29:08Speaker 2: most of the migrants in Springfield, Ohio are Haitian. Most
- 29:11Speaker 2: of them had temporary protected status. Although there'd be a
- 29:14Speaker 2: variety of different you know, time periods, when people move there,
- 29:17Speaker 2: et cetera, and you know, the legal framework would be
- 29:20Speaker 2: different for different people, but that is the vast majority.
- 29:23Speaker 2: There was just an appeals court ruling saying that when
- 29:26Speaker 2: Christy noam ended temporary protected status for Venezuelans and for Haitians,
- 29:31Speaker 2: that that was done unlawfully. However, that policy may still
- 29:35Speaker 2: be may still be enforced while those appeals play out.
- 29:40Speaker 2: So this was an appeals court ruling. So you're already
- 29:42Speaker 2: at sort of like a higher level. I suspect this
- 29:45Speaker 2: will ultimately go to the Supreme Court, but I believe
- 29:48Speaker 2: there's status if you you know, buy that know them
- 29:51Speaker 2: did this lawfully and something like February third, And that's
- 29:54Speaker 2: why the expectation is that they're going to move in
- 29:57Speaker 2: quickly to Springfield, Ohio to make good on what we're
- 30:00Speaker 2: effectively there like campaign threats against this migrant population and
- 30:05Speaker 2: I you know, fully expect, given how slow and impotent
- 30:08Speaker 2: the courts have been in many cases, and how much
- 30:10Speaker 2: this administration just.
- 30:11Speaker 5: Routinely, routinely, routini routinely.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Flouts whatever the court's rule, that you know, this is
- 30:17Speaker 2: a very real possibility that they begin sweeping people up
- 30:21Speaker 2: and trying to deport them while this continues to make
- 30:24Speaker 2: its way through the court process.
- 30:27Speaker 6: So the TPS ruling is really important here. And that's
- 30:30Speaker 6: why Trump even remembers probably the name Springfield, Ohio.
- 30:34Speaker 3: It's almost like that question.
- 30:35Speaker 6: I don't know who asked that question, but that sounds
- 30:38Speaker 6: like one of those questions people sometimes like someone's like, hey,
- 30:42Speaker 6: you should ask about Springfield, Like someone in the admin
- 30:44Speaker 6: is like, hey, you should ask about Springfield. But Springfield's
- 30:47Speaker 6: local process covering this, like here's a headline from the
- 30:51Speaker 6: Springfield New Sun that says, fear grip Springfield Haitians on
- 30:55Speaker 6: the cusp of losing legal status to live work in
- 30:57Speaker 6: the city that they love, and people probably member this
- 31:01Speaker 6: was kind of vaulted into the public's attention by a
- 31:04Speaker 6: New York Times story originally that was fairly nuanced about
- 31:08Speaker 6: how this relatively small community of Springfield had been absolutely
- 31:12Speaker 6: swamped with a influx that I think it was like
- 31:15Speaker 6: a tanema feel like, or it was equivalent to like
- 31:17Speaker 6: twenty five percent of the population of Springfield had.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Come in a really short period of time.
- 31:22Speaker 6: There was a school bus accident where people were killed
- 31:25Speaker 6: Haitian driver, and the community was super super divided over
- 31:29Speaker 6: what had happened.
- 31:31Speaker 3: And also at the.
- 31:32Speaker 6: Same time you had business owners being like, the Haitians
- 31:34Speaker 6: are great workers, They're filling these jobs, and it was
- 31:38Speaker 6: you know, that's that's what originally had everybody talking about Springfield, Ohio.
- 31:42Speaker 6: And then Rufo went in and what there was.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Like a cat bae barbecued ten miles away, Like that
- 31:48Speaker 3: is that am I remembering correctly?
- 31:50Speaker 2: It was like, yeah it was, but he claimed it was.
- 31:55Speaker 2: And there was like a picture of someone holding a goose.
- 31:58Speaker 5: I mean, it was just the yeah.
- 32:00Speaker 4: That's average j for that's an average RFK story. I
- 32:05Speaker 4: thought we liked that stuff.
- 32:07Speaker 6: I mean, but the bottom line is the community had
- 32:09Speaker 6: genuinely been like there was a serious problem in Springfield.
- 32:12Speaker 6: While I think that is it's fair to say the
- 32:14Speaker 6: community was divided over it, there was a huge anytime
- 32:17Speaker 6: you have a huge influx of people who are coming
- 32:19Speaker 6: in a short period of time, not native speakers, Like,
- 32:22Speaker 6: it's just going to be a tough process, and Springfield
- 32:25Speaker 6: was undergoing that obviously. And this this TPS thing is
- 32:29Speaker 6: super interesting because a lot of the Haitians were coming
- 32:33Speaker 6: from Chile or Argentina or Brazil because after twenty ten,
- 32:38Speaker 6: they had already moved out of Haiti, Like there's mass
- 32:40Speaker 6: displacement after twenty ten, and under normal circumstances, Cubans, Haitians,
- 32:46Speaker 6: Venezuelans had pretty good asylum claims and refugee claims when
- 32:51Speaker 6: they were crossing into the US. But in the Biden administration,
- 32:55Speaker 6: you had a lot of economic migrants, Like I talked
- 32:59Speaker 6: to Haitian who had spent months in the streets in
- 33:03Speaker 6: Reinosa like a cartel town, because they were so desperate
- 33:06Speaker 6: to come into the US that they were literally like
- 33:08Speaker 6: camping outside picking up jobs, and people around town were
- 33:12Speaker 6: like those Haitians are such hard workers and the reason
- 33:15Speaker 6: is that they wanted to come into the US. And
- 33:18Speaker 6: so that created these new pathways. And it's just going
- 33:23Speaker 6: to suck because there's people like you's thinking about Cubans
- 33:26Speaker 6: and Venezuelan's and people another kid I met. He showed
- 33:30Speaker 6: me his scar he was Cuban from being beat during
- 33:33Speaker 6: the July eleventh protests.
- 33:34Speaker 3: That's what he said happened. And that's when he left Cuba.
- 33:37Speaker 6: And it's like, there are people with legitimate asylum claims
- 33:39Speaker 6: who are going to be kicked out of the country probably.
- 33:43Speaker 5: Well or there's also.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean there's also and uh no one has
- 33:49Speaker 2: done a better job of explaining this than our own
- 33:51Speaker 2: Ryan Graham. There's also the fact that, like in all
- 33:54Speaker 2: three of those instances, Haiti, Cuba, and Venezuela, a good
- 33:58Speaker 2: part of the reason why those countries are so fucked.
- 34:00Speaker 5: Up it's because of us.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we've you know, Haiti, we have never
- 34:05Speaker 2: stopped messing around with their politics and screwing them.
- 34:09Speaker 5: I mean from the founding.
- 34:10Speaker 2: From the original Slaver Volt through to the present day,
- 34:13Speaker 2: we've never stopped screwing them over. So it's like, Okay,
- 34:17Speaker 2: if you don't want refugees to come to our country,
- 34:20Speaker 2: why don't you stop creating refugee crises that force people
- 34:23Speaker 2: to leave. Like most people want to stay in their
- 34:26Speaker 2: home country. They're not excited about moving to you know,
- 34:29Speaker 2: like America's a great country, but people like to stay
- 34:31Speaker 2: where they're from. It's easier their families there, like they
- 34:33Speaker 2: do know the culture. They don't get attacked by president
- 34:37Speaker 2: who's racist and hateful from the stage and have all
- 34:40Speaker 2: of this shit happened to them. So, I mean, that's
- 34:42Speaker 2: the thing that I get so disgusted with. And you
- 34:45Speaker 2: know that you see, you know, now we're taking over
- 34:48Speaker 2: Venezuela and it's like, okay, and if this doesn't work out,
- 34:50Speaker 2: you're gonna have another flood of Venezuela migrants that you're
- 34:52Speaker 2: all going to fucking demonize, and you're gonna forget that
- 34:55Speaker 2: ten seconds ago. You know, we were the ones causing
- 34:57Speaker 2: that problem. So the whole thing just U discussed me
- 35:00Speaker 2: from the lies and the blatant racism around it to
- 35:04Speaker 2: the you know, complete erasure and ignorance around our country's
- 35:09Speaker 2: own repeated interventions there that helped to create the chaos
- 35:13Speaker 2: that these people are fleeing because Haiti has become I mean,
- 35:16Speaker 2: it is you know, there are massive, massive problems and
- 35:20Speaker 2: violence and poverty and all of that. So in any case,
- 35:23Speaker 2: you know, I think probably the you know, the assumption
- 35:25Speaker 2: that they're going into Springfield next is correct, and Griffin,
- 35:28Speaker 2: let's before Torre jumps in here, let's just real quick
- 35:31Speaker 2: play the one where Trump says that they're not backing
- 35:34Speaker 2: down whatever whatsoever in terms of Minneapolis.
- 35:37Speaker 5: So we can just react to that quickly as well.
- 35:40Speaker 4: I want to keep our country shafe.
- 35:41Speaker 7: We'll do whatever we can to keep our country shave.
- 35:43Speaker 4: So no, none at all, not.
- 35:48Speaker 2: At all, not at all, and that details with he
- 35:50Speaker 2: just posted on true social some like unhinged greed about
- 35:53Speaker 2: Alex Pretty being an insurrectionist and blah blah blah. So
- 35:58Speaker 2: you know, I think there was a moment of Susie
- 36:01Speaker 2: Wiles or Trump himself recognizing Democrats had a bit of
- 36:04Speaker 2: leverage when it came to the government funding. Democrats have
- 36:09Speaker 2: all but already given up that leverage, and so now
- 36:13Speaker 2: Trump can just go back to like, no, it's all
- 36:15Speaker 2: systems go. We're not doing anything different, you know, it's
- 36:18Speaker 2: we're going to continue in this in the same direction.
- 36:21Speaker 2: We're not changing course whatsoever.
- 36:24Speaker 4: Yeah, and I noticed when those demands, like it's like
- 36:26Speaker 4: the going back to the House Democrat demands, they're basically saying,
- 36:31Speaker 4: please follow the rules. But they're way past that, like
- 36:34Speaker 4: they the base wants you to say we're going to
- 36:37Speaker 4: start prosecuting you guys like fun.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I mean, it has to be it has to be funding,
- 36:42Speaker 2: Like you have to deal with the funding because yeah,
- 36:46Speaker 2: I mean one of the demands is literally, don't deport
- 36:49Speaker 2: us citizens. But that's already illegal, Like how are we
- 36:52Speaker 2: negotiating over this?
- 36:53Speaker 5: Or even though you a warrant thing.
- 36:54Speaker 2: It's like, that's already a violation of the Fourth Amendments.
- 36:58Speaker 2: So what are we doing here? But you know, I mean,
- 37:00Speaker 2: they're whatever. So I think I said from the beginning,
- 37:05Speaker 2: I thought that the posture and the switching of Greg
- 37:08Speaker 2: Bavino out Tom Homan in. Tom Homan is no softy
- 37:12Speaker 2: or sweetheart either. He architected the Child's Operation policy during
- 37:16Speaker 2: the original Trump administration that this would be war for show.
- 37:20Speaker 2: That doesn't mean that the reality on the ground. And
- 37:22Speaker 2: maybe Minneapolis might not change because they realize they're getting
- 37:25Speaker 2: some court decisions against them, Maybe they go to a
- 37:27Speaker 2: different place, maybe at Springfield, Ohio.
- 37:29Speaker 5: The overall thrust is baked in.
- 37:31Speaker 2: I mean, I think this is a core like part
- 37:33Speaker 2: and parcel of what this administration is up to, not
- 37:35Speaker 2: only with regard to immigration, but with regard to this
- 37:38Speaker 2: sort of like show of force against their and and
- 37:42Speaker 2: warfare that they see it as like warfare being waged
- 37:46Speaker 2: against their political opponents.
- 37:48Speaker 6: Just what's up on the screen right now is this
- 37:50Speaker 6: is I was a like a migrant detention, not detention,
- 37:55Speaker 6: a migrant like nonprofit place. It was like a Catholic
- 37:57Speaker 6: nonprofit in Texas. And what their show on the screen.
- 38:00Speaker 6: These Haitian men who haven't lived in Haiti for a
- 38:02Speaker 6: long time since like twenty ten, are showing their asylum
- 38:06Speaker 6: papers and they were years and years into the future.
- 38:10Speaker 6: And so that's just this is just to say like
- 38:13Speaker 6: like three years. I think in some of these cases,
- 38:14Speaker 6: one of them might have had a five year court
- 38:16Speaker 6: date into the future. And all that is just to say,
- 38:18Speaker 6: like there was a real expectation that people could build
- 38:23Speaker 6: lives here and here's and that's why you know, there
- 38:26Speaker 6: are a lot of people who don't. Communities were just
- 38:30Speaker 6: thrust into such weird positions. Here's a group of Haitians
- 38:33Speaker 6: in right now. So people can go watch this if
- 38:35Speaker 6: they want, but it's people saying they were trying to
- 38:39Speaker 6: explain in English, like why they were sleeping outside.
- 38:41Speaker 3: I think that was the question.
- 38:43Speaker 6: And at one point it was clear that they were
- 38:46Speaker 6: like struggling to come up with the words, and I said, oh,
- 38:48Speaker 6: the American dream, and then they all lit up and
- 38:50Speaker 6: they were like, yes.
- 38:51Speaker 3: The American dream.
- 38:53Speaker 6: And so this is where you're going to see communities
- 38:55Speaker 6: like Springfield once again be absolutely like divided and chaotic
- 39:01Speaker 6: because a lot of people have had great haitil workers
- 39:04Speaker 6: in their communities and they have been there for a
- 39:08Speaker 6: very very long time now, like several years, and other
- 39:11Speaker 6: people who are going to say get them all out,
- 39:13Speaker 6: and it's just going to be, Yeah, it's about to
- 39:15Speaker 6: get It's not de escalating, it's about to get.
- 39:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Well, one last note with regard to that, because that's
- 39:21Speaker 2: a genuine problem. You know that there was such a
- 39:24Speaker 2: backlock in the system so people could come in and
- 39:26Speaker 2: whether their asylum claim was legit or not, they could
- 39:29Speaker 2: claim the asylum and then have the confidence. It's going
- 39:31Speaker 2: to take years before I ever, this zever gets really
- 39:33Speaker 2: worked out. By that time, I'm established, I've made some
- 39:35Speaker 2: money and been able to send whatever the one big
- 39:38Speaker 2: beautiful bill that Sir flooded Ice with ungodly amounts of money,
- 39:44Speaker 2: making it the best funded law enforcement agency in history,
- 39:48Speaker 2: making immigration enforcement budget larger than the military budgets of
- 39:53Speaker 2: every country except our own and China. Okay, that bill
- 39:56Speaker 2: explicitly limits the number of immigration that are allowed to exist.
- 40:02Speaker 2: So if your goal is to speed up that process
- 40:05Speaker 2: and make that streamline and run more efficiently, that's something
- 40:09Speaker 2: I'm for.
- 40:10Speaker 5: Like, I support that.
- 40:11Speaker 2: I think that is a smart and sense something that
- 40:13Speaker 2: it seems like everyone should get on board with. But
- 40:16Speaker 2: they go in the opposite direction and say, no, we
- 40:19Speaker 2: want to limit the legal pathways for people to be
- 40:24Speaker 2: able to have their asylum claims adjudicated, and instead we
- 40:28Speaker 2: want to explore all of the ways that we can
- 40:30Speaker 2: avoid due process and mass ship people out or scare
- 40:35Speaker 2: them out with our cruelty. That's the direction that we
- 40:38Speaker 2: want to go in. And so I think it's important
- 40:40Speaker 2: for people to understand that is built in, that is
- 40:44Speaker 2: like at the beating heart of their approach. And again,
- 40:47Speaker 2: it's not just about immigration. It's about this show of
- 40:51Speaker 2: force in the streets. It's about them truly believing their
- 40:54Speaker 2: like left of center opponents as being some like network
- 40:58Speaker 2: of domestic terrorists must be quashed and assaulted and defeated
- 41:03Speaker 2: and arrested and scared et cetera, which you know, I mean,
- 41:07Speaker 2: the Don Lemon thing that we started with fits in
- 41:09Speaker 2: with that whole, that whole conception of how they're approaching
- 41:12Speaker 2: things as well.
- 41:16Speaker 4: Well. Speaking of legal status, that leads us nicely to
- 41:20Speaker 4: Nicki minaj and her new Trump Gold card, which will
- 41:25Speaker 4: lead us also nicely to our guest.
- 41:28Speaker 2: So, Tori, Nicki Minaje has been doing this whole maga
- 41:32Speaker 2: maga tour. She she did the whole Erica Kirk moment.
- 41:36Speaker 2: She now just had like a big Trump moment. He
- 41:39Speaker 2: gave her the gold card to settle her immigration status.
- 41:44Speaker 2: I think a lot of people's assumption is that her
- 41:48Speaker 2: husband and her brother are in some legal trouble and
- 41:51Speaker 2: perhaps this is like an attempt to get in his
- 41:53Speaker 2: good graces for a possible pardon or something of that nature.
- 41:59Speaker 5: What is your here?
- 42:00Speaker 2: Does this maga turn from Nikki come out of nowhere
- 42:03Speaker 2: to you? Or does this seem like something that makes
- 42:06Speaker 2: sense given the way that she's positioned herself.
- 42:09Speaker 8: The turn does come out of nowhere, except that we
- 42:12Speaker 8: know that she's a long term Green card holder who
- 42:16Speaker 8: clearly wanted to change that status and saw and knew
- 42:20Speaker 8: that in this administration, you can kiss the ring and
- 42:25Speaker 8: get almost anything, while so we get this bizarre split
- 42:29Speaker 8: screen of poorer immigrants are running for their lives and
- 42:33Speaker 8: getting deported and beaten and shot in the streets, while
- 42:37Speaker 8: a rich immigrant gets a pathway to citizenship in an
- 42:42Speaker 8: administration where you can be at the courthouse going through
- 42:46Speaker 8: the proper steps and they arrest you and detain you.
- 42:50Speaker 8: But she has had a green card and now she
- 42:52Speaker 8: just gets a pathway. I don't believe that citizenship should
- 42:57Speaker 8: be sold as a luxury, goodly as a personal choice
- 43:02Speaker 8: of the leader that he happens to like you. You
- 43:05Speaker 8: have kissed the ring, you have shown sufficient deference to
- 43:08Speaker 8: his political perspective, so you get to be a citizen.
- 43:12Speaker 8: I think becoming an American citizen should be much more egalitarian,
- 43:16Speaker 8: should be much more of a broader opportunity for a
- 43:19Speaker 8: widespread of Americans, widespread of non Americans who don't necessarily
- 43:24Speaker 8: have to suggest that they love personally the president to
- 43:28Speaker 8: get a citizenship.
- 43:30Speaker 4: Well, I'd like to stop you right there, because there
- 43:32Speaker 4: are questions if this gold card is even real. As
- 43:36Speaker 4: reporting from the New York Times, this actually may not
- 43:38Speaker 4: have conferred any legal status for her administrations Trump administration
- 43:44Speaker 4: officials have said it's more of a token, like it
- 43:46Speaker 4: was more of like just kind of like a symbolic gift,
- 43:49Speaker 4: a a souvenir, and does not actually confer any legal status. Now,
- 43:55Speaker 4: the gold card costs one million dollars and additional fifteen
- 44:01Speaker 4: grand for a processing fee on top of that, and
- 44:05Speaker 4: so Nikki yes has had some sort of legal status,
- 44:09Speaker 4: she's not like a full citizen, and she remains not
- 44:13Speaker 4: a full citizen after this token green card. Yeah, we
- 44:18Speaker 4: also have a video I want you to react to
- 44:20Speaker 4: here to her, to show just a little bit of
- 44:23Speaker 4: flavor of the of the meeting.
- 44:25Speaker 9: Here, nic, I'm like my favorite present, the best president
- 44:31Speaker 9: of our times.
- 44:34Speaker 6: I'm with the Queen of.
- 44:36Speaker 4: Rep Now is she still? Is she still the Queen?
- 44:42Speaker 7: Is that?
- 44:44Speaker 4: No? No, not at all.
- 44:45Speaker 8: I mean, you know, part of the thing is that
- 44:48Speaker 8: a large portion of her fans are black and brown,
- 44:52Speaker 8: A large portion of them are LGBTQ, especially trans. She
- 44:56Speaker 8: has been a trans and gay icon for a while.
- 45:00Speaker 8: Isle so you know, we keep talking about how she
- 45:03Speaker 8: has betrayed a large swath of her fan base by
- 45:07Speaker 8: doing this, and we don't really, I don't believe that
- 45:11Speaker 8: she actually agrees with any of the policies of the
- 45:13Speaker 8: Trump administration. I don't think she knows any of the policies.
- 45:17Speaker 8: We do know there are people who are like attracted
- 45:19Speaker 8: to the personality of Trump, and I guess you know,
- 45:23Speaker 8: you can get to your political side whatever way you want.
- 45:26Speaker 8: But I don't believe she actually knows or cares about
- 45:29Speaker 8: any political ideal at all.
- 45:31Speaker 6: Well, this is what I want to ask about, because
- 45:33Speaker 6: she did during People probably remember this because I mean, honestly,
- 45:36Speaker 6: it was hilarious during COVID she had this infamous post
- 45:39Speaker 6: on next where she said or Twitter at the time,
- 45:41Speaker 6: my cousin in Trinidad won't get the vaccine because his
- 45:43Speaker 6: friend got it and became impotent in his testicles became swollen.
- 45:47Speaker 6: His friend was weeks away from getting married, and now
- 45:48Speaker 6: the girl called off the weddings and just pray on
- 45:50Speaker 6: to make sure you're comfortable with your decision, not bullied.
- 45:52Speaker 5: And there was this like oze injury tweets. Oh my god, there.
- 45:57Speaker 6: There was this like sort of you saw flashes of
- 45:59Speaker 6: this from Nicki Minaj. She says that or she's it
- 46:03Speaker 6: seems like her claim, the charitable claim is that watching
- 46:08Speaker 6: the plight of Nigerian Christians and seeing Trump's reaction to
- 46:12Speaker 6: that has been part of what motivated here here. But
- 46:15Speaker 6: I also wanted to bring up the amber Rose of
- 46:17Speaker 6: it all because Terray, Yeah, so this is amber Rose
- 46:21Speaker 6: who was on a sneak o stream apparently and said
- 46:24Speaker 6: that she's the one who introduced Nicki Minaj to Alex Bruzowitz,
- 46:28Speaker 6: a Trump appointee or not appointee, a Trump advisor outside
- 46:32Speaker 6: of the administration. Technically, I think who then connected Nicki
- 46:35Speaker 6: Minaj to Donald Trump?
- 46:37Speaker 3: And it does seem like.
- 46:38Speaker 6: There's this interesting thing happening, Terray, And maybe it's it
- 46:42Speaker 6: started happening after Butler.
- 46:44Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 46:45Speaker 6: Where there's there is like this rap community interest in Trump.
- 46:51Speaker 6: Maybe that's after Butler, Like is tell us how amber
- 46:54Speaker 6: Rose fits into all of this?
- 46:58Speaker 8: I mean, I don't know. This is more of a
- 47:02Speaker 8: as a personality.
- 47:04Speaker 3: I don't believe.
- 47:05Speaker 8: I don't believe either of them could talk about any
- 47:08Speaker 8: Trump policy, or any Trump philosophy, or any idea of Trump.
- 47:13Speaker 8: I don't believe that they interact with the political spectrum
- 47:17Speaker 8: in the way that we do. As far as ideas
- 47:20Speaker 8: I think they hover over it as far as personality
- 47:23Speaker 8: as far as he seems like a cool strong man,
- 47:28Speaker 8: so then he must be the guy for the job.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Tori also talk, So, I mean Trump was a fixture
- 47:33Speaker 2: in like hip hop songs before he was a political figure, right,
- 47:38Speaker 2: And there is in mainstream hip hop there is this
- 47:42Speaker 2: like veneration of money and power and wealth and capitalism
- 47:48Speaker 2: that so there is you know, I don't know if
- 47:50Speaker 2: this necessarily flies with Nicki. So there there is a
- 47:55Speaker 2: thing there that does make a sort of sense because
- 47:58Speaker 2: his whole brand is being the unvarnished, brash capitalist, billionaire
- 48:05Speaker 2: boss man. And with Nicky specifically, I was watching the
- 48:08Speaker 2: Bitfruity podcast with Matt Burnstey. I don't know if you
- 48:11Speaker 2: if you know him or watch him, but he's a
- 48:14Speaker 2: gay guy, and he did a breakdown with I can't
- 48:16Speaker 2: remember who his guest was about Nicki's pivot, and they
- 48:19Speaker 2: were also pointing to the fact that she has been
- 48:23Speaker 2: very jealous of the other women who have come up
- 48:27Speaker 2: in the rap game and has very been like at times,
- 48:30Speaker 2: very hostile towards them.
- 48:32Speaker 5: And so for them it.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Was yes and Megan the stallion, and you know, I
- 48:38Speaker 2: don't know if there are others as well, but it's like,
- 48:40Speaker 2: rather than having this sort of like you know, feminist
- 48:43Speaker 2: view of I helped to be the trailblazer here and
- 48:46Speaker 2: I'm so glad to see these other women follow in
- 48:48Speaker 2: my footsteps. Instead it's like, fuck, y'all, bitch is like
- 48:51Speaker 2: this is my domain. So I wonder if you see
- 48:53Speaker 2: any connection there too with it, you know, that not
- 48:57Speaker 2: being that surprising that she would have this right wing turn,
- 49:02Speaker 2: you know, at a time when the movement is explicitly
- 49:04Speaker 2: the right wing movement is explicitly sort of like anti feminist,
- 49:08Speaker 2: certainly anti queer, et cetera.
- 49:10Speaker 8: I mean, she is, as you note, a sort of
- 49:13Speaker 8: pivotal figure in modern hip hop history in that she
- 49:17Speaker 8: is the one who sort of emerges and reminds the
- 49:21Speaker 8: labels and the industry that women can be commercially successful,
- 49:25Speaker 8: and the people come after her as far as as
- 49:27Speaker 8: far as Carti, who Emily mentioned, and Megan and Glilla.
- 49:32Speaker 8: We're actually having a huge moment for a lot of
- 49:36Speaker 8: black female rappers. There's also Lotto, there's also Sweedy, there's
- 49:40Speaker 8: a lot of sexy red. Somebody will say there's a
- 49:43Speaker 8: lot of black female rappers at this moment. It's a
- 49:45Speaker 8: huge moment for that demographic.
- 49:47Speaker 2: And you don't have to be attached to a larger
- 49:51Speaker 2: male artist for their success.
- 49:53Speaker 5: They are the thing on their own.
- 49:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:56Speaker 8: Yeah, so it's an interesting moment for that. You know, Yes,
- 50:01Speaker 8: she has not been welcoming to the others. She has
- 50:04Speaker 8: been super competitive and trying to eat up all the space.
- 50:08Speaker 8: I think she's part of this sliver. It's been like
- 50:12Speaker 8: sixteen seventeen, eighteen percent of black people who are willing
- 50:15Speaker 8: to vote for Trump, but that's about the percentage that
- 50:18Speaker 8: had been willing to go Republican for a long time.
- 50:22Speaker 8: It's like three four percent more, but like it's not
- 50:25Speaker 8: a statistically massive difference. There was this sort of media
- 50:29Speaker 8: drumbeat about black men's especially going over to the right.
- 50:34Speaker 8: It happened in a very very small, statistically insignificant amount.
- 50:39Speaker 8: But there is a small group of black people who
- 50:43Speaker 8: are willing to go over there, and Nikki is one
- 50:46Speaker 8: of them. I mean, like, I just you know, I
- 50:48Speaker 8: grew up in a time when Republicans could articulate their
- 50:51Speaker 8: position and I disagreed with them, but they had an
- 50:54Speaker 8: idea when they talked about you know, limited government and taxation.
- 50:59Speaker 8: This group is just reactionary. They're just evil, They're just
- 51:03Speaker 8: hateful towards people who are not them. So the appeal
- 51:07Speaker 8: from a NICKI minaj I don't understand except a personal
- 51:12Speaker 8: transactional I will get you a citizenship or maybe an
- 51:17Speaker 8: honorary citizenship, citizenship, young money.
- 51:21Speaker 4: He's talked about it. Is it citizenship or gardens like like,
- 51:26Speaker 4: do you know much about her husband or her brother,
- 51:28Speaker 4: like to her family, like they're experiencing some level of
- 51:32Speaker 4: criminal charges or what have you? Could could the could
- 51:35Speaker 4: the pardon be the real thing here?
- 51:39Speaker 8: I mean it could you know? I mean that also
- 51:42Speaker 8: has been controlled under Trump as this sort of personal
- 51:46Speaker 8: thing that he gives to you if he likes you,
- 51:48Speaker 8: not if he believes in your case and believes from
- 51:52Speaker 8: a jurisprudential perspective that you deserve relief, but if he
- 51:57Speaker 8: likes you and he personally likes your story. So yeah,
- 52:00Speaker 8: I mean, perhaps we'll see that if she kisses the
- 52:03Speaker 8: ring sufficiently, then her husband, who has you know, horrific
- 52:08Speaker 8: charges from many years ago, if he will get you know,
- 52:11Speaker 8: magically pardoned or expunged. You know, it's a pay for
- 52:15Speaker 8: play sort of system. And she didn't even have to
- 52:17Speaker 8: pay to get into it. It seems that she got
- 52:19Speaker 8: this for free, like like what are we doing here?
- 52:22Speaker 6: Well, when you're talking about how it's a lot of
- 52:27Speaker 6: this vibe based, I was thinking of how in Hollywood
- 52:30Speaker 6: for a long time there was a sort of vibe base.
- 52:32Speaker 6: I don't know if conformity is the right word. Maybe
- 52:34Speaker 6: it is the right word, where it was like Okay, Obama,
- 52:36Speaker 6: we're back in Obama, or we're backing John Kerry and
- 52:39Speaker 6: like you keep going back. But it's interesting to me
- 52:42Speaker 6: that it's kind of flipped in a sense where you
- 52:46Speaker 6: have now people vibe based going to Trump, and I
- 52:50Speaker 6: don't think that ever will translate into another Republican.
- 52:53Speaker 3: I feel like that's just a Trump phenomenon.
- 52:55Speaker 6: It's not going to go to jd Vance or Marco Rubio,
- 52:58Speaker 6: Like you're not gonna see the Nicki Minada.
- 53:00Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe you disagree to it.
- 53:01Speaker 6: Right like going because to me, it just speaks to
- 53:03Speaker 6: Trump having this like countercultural whatever we think of, whether
- 53:06Speaker 6: it's legitimate or not, he has this like countercultural reputation
- 53:11Speaker 6: as like someone who undermines the system.
- 53:13Speaker 3: He's going to train the swamp, et cetera.
- 53:15Speaker 6: And that's never going to trans like it's never going
- 53:18Speaker 6: to transfer to another Republican.
- 53:23Speaker 8: Yeah, I largely agree with that. I think of Trump
- 53:25Speaker 8: as an extremely unintelligent person, as in, there's a very
- 53:30Speaker 8: small ability to analyze and integrate new information. There's a
- 53:35Speaker 8: very small amount of information in his memory. Like there's
- 53:39Speaker 8: no subject who you say he is a national or
- 53:41Speaker 8: a global expert on this subject. But he is an
- 53:46Speaker 8: interpersonal genius as far as getting a certain kind of
- 53:51Speaker 8: person to like him. He can speak to their fears,
- 53:56Speaker 8: he can motivate them and inspire them to follow him.
- 54:00Speaker 8: It works on a certain swath of America, that's solid
- 54:04Speaker 8: thirty five percent of America that sticks with him no
- 54:06Speaker 8: matter what. But he is that, and I think you
- 54:10Speaker 8: see that on the campaign trail much more than in
- 54:13Speaker 8: the Oval office. But like, he does have a genius
- 54:18Speaker 8: for getting on the mic and getting a certain sort
- 54:20Speaker 8: of person, mostly male, mostly poor, but also rich, mostly white,
- 54:27Speaker 8: to really really like him and to think he's the guy.
- 54:30Speaker 8: So there is a genius. There is an interpersonal genius
- 54:33Speaker 8: that works for him. But I think in any other
- 54:36Speaker 8: area of intelligence he is completely bereft.
- 54:39Speaker 2: I mean, I also see, like Emily put up that
- 54:42Speaker 2: infamous COVID tweet where of course it's mostly like liberals
- 54:46Speaker 2: and people left of center that are like, what the
- 54:47Speaker 2: fuck is wrong with you?
- 54:48Speaker 5: What is this? Like, what are you talking about?
- 54:51Speaker 2: And then you know you have also and you could
- 54:54Speaker 2: speak to this much more so than I could. This
- 54:56Speaker 2: is someone who's not at the top of her career, right,
- 54:59Speaker 2: And so there's you know that as well, where it's
- 55:02Speaker 2: sort of like grasping for relevance. Then you have filtered
- 55:06Speaker 2: into that this very variety basket of self interested reasons
- 55:11Speaker 2: why you want to take this track. And so to me,
- 55:16Speaker 2: you know, I've seen a lot like Joe Rogan comes
- 55:18Speaker 2: to mind also as someone who felt like really demonized
- 55:23Speaker 2: over things he said around COVID. And then it's like,
- 55:25Speaker 2: I'm just a right winger now, right, And you know,
- 55:27Speaker 2: I've seen other people who basically made that similar turn
- 55:31Speaker 2: of you know, I feel attacked by the left, therefore
- 55:33Speaker 2: I'm going to flip all of my politics to the right.
- 55:36Speaker 2: I don't know that we ever really knew that much
- 55:38Speaker 2: about Nikki's politics to start with that, Like, to your point,
- 55:41Speaker 2: I don't think she had like a lot of ideological
- 55:43Speaker 2: grounding to really upend to begin with.
- 55:46Speaker 5: But it seems to me when you put all.
- 55:48Speaker 2: Of those pieces together, I feel attacked by the left.
- 55:51Speaker 2: I am, you know, sort of grasping for relevance. I
- 55:53Speaker 2: have these basket of legal and immigration problems I want
- 55:56Speaker 2: dealt with. I you know, like being the center of
- 55:59Speaker 2: attention on the stage, et cetera. That it kind of
- 56:03Speaker 2: like you can see how she ends up traveling this trajectory.
- 56:06Speaker 8: One thing about hip hop in general is you are
- 56:09Speaker 8: supposed to get on the mic and tell us about
- 56:13Speaker 8: who you are, and tell us about where you're from,
- 56:16Speaker 8: and so we should walk away feeling like we know
- 56:19Speaker 8: you and what your world is all about. In rock
- 56:22Speaker 8: and roll, in R and B, you may or may
- 56:24Speaker 8: not ever know what the person is really about, and
- 56:27Speaker 8: a lot of the songs are fictional. When somebody says
- 56:29Speaker 8: I love you in R and B or rock and roll,
- 56:31Speaker 8: like they're talking to a fictional you. In hip hop weeks,
- 56:35Speaker 8: if somebody says I love you, they are talking to
- 56:37Speaker 8: a specific person. Or I hate you, they're talking to
- 56:40Speaker 8: a specific person. Nicki in particular has always bothered me
- 56:44Speaker 8: because she never talks about herself. I listened to Nicki's music,
- 56:47Speaker 8: I don't know anything about her. She's always playing a
- 56:50Speaker 8: character and she does the Barbie sort of character.
- 56:56Speaker 9: She doesn't, she says, she has like a variety of
- 56:59Speaker 9: She's all your egos, right, Yes, she has different characters
- 57:02Speaker 9: that she plays over time, and like Beyonce has different erarors,
- 57:07Speaker 9: but I feel like they are rooted in who she
- 57:09Speaker 9: is Nicki.
- 57:11Speaker 8: I feel like she's an actor and she's a theater
- 57:13Speaker 8: kid who she's doing different roles. So I'm like, this
- 57:16Speaker 8: is the new chapter of Nicki, which is Maga Barbie
- 57:20Speaker 8: as opposed to previously she was Howard Juku Barbie. It's
- 57:24Speaker 8: none of it is real. It's not a genuine desire
- 57:28Speaker 8: to relate to Trump or trump Ism. It's just this
- 57:33Speaker 8: is the new character that is valuable. It gets her attention,
- 57:37Speaker 8: it gets her potentially possibly citizenship, possibly a pardon for
- 57:41Speaker 8: you know, her husband, and so there's there's value in it.
- 57:45Speaker 2: Right.
- 57:45Speaker 8: She's not really making records at this point that are charting,
- 57:48Speaker 8: that are hitting the culture, but here's a way to
- 57:51Speaker 8: get everybody to look at you, which is similar to
- 57:53Speaker 8: what Kanye did. And I think I'm sure Kanye is like, well,
- 57:56Speaker 8: at least I did it. At the beginning of Trump
- 57:57Speaker 8: and not near the you know, near the end or
- 58:00Speaker 8: in the middle. I mean, like, I don't know how
- 58:04Speaker 8: you can look at you know, Renee and and Alex
- 58:08Speaker 8: and say, yeah, I still want to be on that team,
- 58:10Speaker 8: like I joined that team now, Like their stock is
- 58:14Speaker 8: incredibly low, the approval rating is incredibly low. Surely they
- 58:17Speaker 8: are moving toward the end. So you're joining the party now,
- 58:23Speaker 8: Like I don't understand that.
- 58:26Speaker 4: Yeah, And now to the to the to the Barbs point.
- 58:29Speaker 4: Will what is there going to be a Barb's backlash? Now?
- 58:33Speaker 4: I'm not so sure because as you you know, you
- 58:35Speaker 4: mentioned yourself on this episode. She has a lot of
- 58:39Speaker 4: gay fans, and I know a lot of you know,
- 58:42Speaker 4: gay guys that stand a toxic woman. They say, you
- 58:45Speaker 4: know what, you're being toxic, Go off girl, you know,
- 58:49Speaker 4: like some people like that. Now, So will she have
- 58:52Speaker 4: a backlash in the Barbs or will the Barbs stand
- 58:55Speaker 4: valiantly with her?
- 58:58Speaker 8: I think she has all rad He's seen a significant
- 59:01Speaker 8: Barb backlash.
- 59:03Speaker 4: If I recall she quit Instagram.
- 59:07Speaker 8: Over this not long ago, that the that people started
- 59:11Speaker 8: attacking her online over this Maga turn and she quit
- 59:16Speaker 8: Instagram because she couldn't handle the comment flow and she
- 59:19Speaker 8: didn't want that to become part of the story. So
- 59:22Speaker 8: I do think that the barbs are definitely already responding
- 59:26Speaker 8: in an aggressive way. And I think that the toxicity
- 59:31Speaker 8: point you mentioned, there's a fun way for someone to
- 59:36Speaker 8: be toxic, and there's a truly virulent way for someone
- 59:40Speaker 8: to be toxic. And somebody's who's sort of domineering and
- 59:44Speaker 8: humiliating is a good toxic And like a woman who's
- 59:49Speaker 8: like Maga is like, no, that's not fun toxic, that's just.
- 59:52Speaker 4: Bad toxic.
- 59:55Speaker 5: Flavors of toxic.
- 59:57Speaker 2: Lastly, Toroy wanted to get your reaction to the big
- 59:59Speaker 2: news that this morning that Don Lemon's been arrested in
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: LA over his coverage of this church protest.
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: You know, don don't you?
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: I do? I do.
- 1:00:07Speaker 8: I texted with him about this issue and supported him
- 1:00:10Speaker 8: on This is what sixty minutes used to do. That
- 1:00:13Speaker 8: recoverage out of that church situation. That's what sixty minutes
- 1:00:16Speaker 8: used to do. That's real journalism. The notion that he
- 1:00:20Speaker 8: was leading a mob into a church is completely backwards.
- 1:00:25Speaker 8: He was covering a situation that was happening on the ground.
- 1:00:30Speaker 8: This is a politically motivated arrest meant to silence people
- 1:00:35Speaker 8: like us, and the conversation keeps going to whether or
- 1:00:39Speaker 8: not they could or should have protested in the church.
- 1:00:43Speaker 8: Don was not protesting in the church. He was media
- 1:00:46Speaker 8: in the church, and generally we protect that. This is
- 1:00:50Speaker 8: this whole story. The whole arrest is protecting against the
- 1:00:54Speaker 8: notion of we have a pastor, a Christian pastor, who
- 1:00:58Speaker 8: is in Ice. So all of this is protecting that man.
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: And if we.
- 1:01:02Speaker 8: Cannot talk about the hypocrisy of a Christian pastor of
- 1:01:07Speaker 8: being an Ice on Sunday talking about love thy neighbor,
- 1:01:11Speaker 8: help the stranger, would Jesus have joined Ice? Of course,
- 1:01:16Speaker 8: not like Jesus was flipping the tables. He put God
- 1:01:19Speaker 8: over the state, and being in Ice reverses every Christian principle.
- 1:01:24Speaker 8: So what those protesters were doing was righteous in calling
- 1:01:28Speaker 8: attention to his hypocrisy as a Christian and the right
- 1:01:32Speaker 8: and the administration has tried to turn this around about
- 1:01:35Speaker 8: you can't protest inside a church. That is not the
- 1:01:39Speaker 8: crux of this issue at all.
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: Yeah. I would also know they haven't treated churches as
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: sort of like sanctified spaces because they've done immigration raids,
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: and you know, suplicitly overturned previous policy to do immigration
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: raids during church services as well.
- 1:01:56Speaker 8: We are not investigating the man who show renee the
- 1:02:01Speaker 8: man who shot Alex, but we are investigating Don Lemon,
- 1:02:07Speaker 8: a journalist with a microphone who interviewed people on the
- 1:02:11Speaker 8: scene of an ongoing story like yeah, well, and.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: Anyone can watch the live stream you know, it's I
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: believe still posted on his channel. If you are concerned
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: that he was taking part in the pro that he
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: was leading them into the building that he was serving,
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: you know, just as an activist and not as a journalist,
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: like you can go watch it for yourself and make
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: your own determinations because it's it's actually was quite helpful
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: having him there and interviewing the people that were there
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: and getting, you know, all of their perspectives, including the
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: pastor who was there, not the ice pastor, a different
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: pastor who was there leading services and obviously was very
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: upset by the protest.
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: Toy.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: Tell people where they can find you and support all
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: of your great work all.
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: Over the place.
- 1:02:50Speaker 8: I'm on TikTok at Tore show, I'm on YouTube.
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: You've been you noticed any censorship over at TikTok last
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: week you had problems.
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: I haven't.
- 1:03:00Speaker 8: There was a couple of days when they told us
- 1:03:02Speaker 8: not to post because the app was not working. I
- 1:03:06Speaker 8: do see an influx in these text only posts that
- 1:03:10Speaker 8: are like pro ice and sort of mocking liberals and
- 1:03:13Speaker 8: that sort of thing. I haven't seen that, although you
- 1:03:17Speaker 8: know somebody I really like, I believe Hawk Eye was
- 1:03:21Speaker 8: his name, who is a great liberal creator and quite
- 1:03:27Speaker 8: often spend his time platforming other people. If he liked
- 1:03:30Speaker 8: a post of mine or a video of somebody else's
- 1:03:33Speaker 8: always liberals, he would like, you know, throw them up
- 1:03:35Speaker 8: so give them more visibility. They banned him permanently, and
- 1:03:39Speaker 8: you know, this is just you know, a guy just
- 1:03:41Speaker 8: you know, fighting the good fight and just spreading good
- 1:03:44Speaker 8: common sense messages. And it's frightening to see him get
- 1:03:48Speaker 8: banned permanently. So that's that's been the biggest change that
- 1:03:52Speaker 8: I've noticed in the recent days.
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: Gotcha, But and in case I interrupted your pitch, TikTok where.
- 1:03:57Speaker 7: Else, no TikTok and TikTok YouTube TikTok for now and
- 1:04:05Speaker 7: on substack as well.
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: All right, Toreri, thank you so much. Great to see you,
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: my friend, Nice to see.
