- 0:10Mike Marrs: So we're going to run down a few things that are going on this weekend, October the 3rd and the 4th.
- 0:16Mike Marrs: And then we're going to look at a few things that are coming out a little bit further as we look at where the roads can take us.
- 0:22Mike Marrs: We're going to start off with Fredericksburg Oktoberfest.
- 0:25Mike Marrs: Of course, it's October.
- 0:26Mike Marrs: October the 2nd through the 4th, Saturday until from 10 a.m.
- 0:30Mike Marrs: until midnight.
- 0:31Mike Marrs: It's a great place to go and celebrate Octoberfest up in Fredericksburg.
- 0:35Mike Marrs: Then we're going to go down to Round Top Wine and Whiskey Weekend.
- 0:40Mike Marrs: Of course, this is in Round Top.
- 0:41Mike Marrs: Kind of a little different approach to the October road trip in that it's wine and whiskey.
- 0:46Mike Marrs: So if you're not really a beer person, then October 2 through 4, you got plenty of things you can do.
- 0:51Mike Marrs: And there is a classic car show in the town square on Saturday.
- 0:55Mike Marrs: Check out Visit Round Top, Texas, if you want more information on this event.
- 1:00Mike Marrs: Then we got an interesting name here, Ripfest Eastland.
- 1:03Mike Marrs: Now this celebrates the legend of old Rip.
- 1:06Mike Marrs: This was the horned hog supposedly discovered alive inside the courthouse cornerstone decades after being sealed there.
- 1:12Mike Marrs: So this takes place on October the 3rd and the 4th.
- 1:15Mike Marrs: And uh 41st annual Brian's car show is going on same weekend, same location.
- 1:21Mike Marrs: So you got plenty of cars and festivals to deal with there.
- 1:24Mike Marrs: Then we're going to go over to something a little more different, Hogtoberfest.
- 1:28Mike Marrs: October the 3rd.
- 1:29Mike Marrs: This is a one-day event.
- 1:30Mike Marrs: Now this is at the Varner Hogg Plantation State Historic Site.
- 1:35Mike Marrs: Got a lot of historic uh things going on, places to see and stuff to visit some more of Texas history right here.
- 1:42Mike Marrs: Now you can uh run up to Huntsville, you can go up there to the fair on the square.
- 1:47Mike Marrs: It's another traditional Texas fall destination.
- 1:50Mike Marrs: Takes place the first Saturday in October every year.
- 1:53Mike Marrs: So put it on your calendar for next year as well as this Saturday.
- 1:57Mike Marrs: Then if you're want to go on over to the fall festival at Denison, Saturday, October the 3rd, in downtown Denison, this is the 39th year for that event.
- 2:07Mike Marrs: But then, of course, like we say, if you want to look at a little more planning going out next weekend, then we're gonna take and go out to October the 10th.
- 2:15Mike Marrs: Now, Rogers Park in Beaumont is home to the Oktoberfest Beaumont.
- 2:20Mike Marrs: You don't have to go very far for this one if you're in East Texas.
- 2:23Mike Marrs: It's the 11th annual Beaumont October, Rogers Park, October the 10th, 2 until 8 p.m.
- 2:29Mike Marrs: So it's going to cool down a little bit in the evening.
- 2:32Mike Marrs: Admission is free, live music through the afternoon, food, beer.
- 2:35Mike Marrs: I've got a wine garden for the adults, and um a little area for the kids.
- 2:39Mike Marrs: Get to do some interactive entertainment, some reptiles, rock climbing, face painting, things that like kids like to do when they go out and spend the day in the park.
- 2:48Mike Marrs: Then we're going to go over to from there, we're going to go down near State 10 to the east, Lake Charles Fall Fest and Car Show.
- 2:58Mike Marrs: Now, this is where the Fall Fest, Fall Market, and Car Show is on Saturday morning, October the 10th from 8 a.m.
- 3:04Mike Marrs: till noon in the historic city hall.
- 3:06Mike Marrs: This is all part of the downtown Lake Charles area.
- 3:09Mike Marrs: It's a free fall market.
- 3:11Mike Marrs: Got a vintage car show, local vendors, got live music and coffee, of course, Saturday morning.
- 3:17Mike Marrs: There's also the show and shine area under the Oaks on Kirby Street.
- 3:20Mike Marrs: Now, this is close enough to the Southeast Texas.
- 3:23Mike Marrs: You know, even out of Houston, jump on here to State 10 and run over there.
- 3:27Mike Marrs: It's an easy Saturday morning road trip over to Lake Charles.
- 3:32Mike Marrs: If you're looking for a reason to head down to Galveston in the fall, October 17 and 18 just might be your ticket.
- 3:38Mike Marrs: It is the Arktoberfest in Galveston.
- 3:41Mike Marrs: The 29th annual Oktoberfest takes over the historic Downtown Cultural Arts District Center.
- 3:47Mike Marrs: Today, 17th and 18th of October, it is a juried fine art festival.
- 3:52Mike Marrs: They have over 120 artists from around the country coming out and displaying some of their work.
- 3:57Mike Marrs: They also have some live music, food, demonstrations, and hands-on activities.
- 4:02Mike Marrs: So instead of just walking around and visiting the booth, you can actually talk to the artist and kind of get an idea of how some of their work is created.
- 4:10Mike Marrs: If you're into that uh painting, that type of painting, you absolutely want to make this festival part of a full day on Galveston.
- 4:18Mike Marrs: Then October the 17th, Caboose Fest.
- 4:20Mike Marrs: While you're down in Galveston, there's another reason to be down there for that day.
- 4:25Mike Marrs: The Galveston Railroad Museum hosts caboose fest.
- 4:28Mike Marrs: Now, this is a hoot nanny and hay rides going on from 10 a.m.
- 4:33Mike Marrs: until 5 p.m.
- 4:34Mike Marrs: You're going to find the caboose hay rides, you're going to find a pumpkin patch, you've got a vendor marketplace, games, live entertainment food, a pie contest.
- 4:43Mike Marrs: Come and get some pie.
- 4:44Mike Marrs: Everybody loves pie.
- 4:46Mike Marrs: And there's even a chicken wing eating contest.
- 4:49Mike Marrs: Now the museum exhibits remain open during the festival as well.
- 4:52Mike Marrs: So you combine this with uh Art Toberfest, and you've got enough to keep everybody happy for a weekend trip down to Galveston.
- 5:00Mike Marrs: Another little point to reminder here: this same area, November the 13th through December the 23rd, you could go here to experience the Polar Express.
- 5:10Mike Marrs: So they've got a lot of things going on down in Galveston to keep on your calendar.
- 5:14Mike Marrs: Also on October the 17th, back over to Lake Charles, Chuck Fest.
- 5:20Mike Marrs: Not sure, I just like that name.
- 5:22Mike Marrs: Chuck Fest in Lake Charles.

- 5:31Mike Marrs: Now, this is a free festival.
- 5:33Mike Marrs: It runs from noon until 11 p.m.
- 5:35Mike Marrs: So you got plenty of time in the evening to enjoy the evening, the cooler weather, and uh particularly with the live evening entertainment.
- 5:42Mike Marrs: Then also, if you're in Houston, you don't want to make the road trip over to Louisiana or East Texas, you can go to the Houston Filipino Street Festival.
- 5:51Mike Marrs: Now, this is at Constellation Field out in Sugarland.
- 5:54Mike Marrs: This is the baseball park out in Sugarland on October the 17th.

- 6:04Mike Marrs: You got dances, art, cultural displays, and there's a lot of Filipino street food.
- 6:10Mike Marrs: Now, it's an interesting destination because of the location.
- 6:13Mike Marrs: It's plenty, it's wide open, lots of room to go around, and it's an opportunity to spend a Saturday experiencing the food, music, and traditions of another culture without ever leaving Houston.
- 6:24Mike Marrs: This is some of the things in the upcoming weeks that you can look forward to and seeing where the roads can take us this week.
