- 0:27SPEAKER_04: Me too.
- 0:28SPEAKER_04: I just absolutely adore her.
- 0:30SPEAKER_04: I not as much as I love you, Ren.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:33SPEAKER_04: I know you're a little rattled today, uh, and I hope I can take some of that.
- 0:37SPEAKER_04: We can we can have some fun, and maybe you'll leave with a little bit, I don't know.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: A smile on my face.
- 0:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, you came in with a smile.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, maybe a chip off my shoulder.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 0:48SPEAKER_04: Not that I want to knock the chip off your shoulder, but you know, we've talked about doing this, and I love this.
- 0:54SPEAKER_04: Um and I had fun googling stuff, and you and I'm sure you're gonna know a whole lot more on some of these newer artists than I ever will know.
- 1:04SPEAKER_04: Um but I I the women of rock and roll.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: The women of rock and roll.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: That's why today is gonna be cathartic.
- 1:11SPEAKER_04: It is.
- 1:12SPEAKER_04: Cathartic?
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: Cathartic, oh yeah.
- 1:14SPEAKER_04: So I one of the first things I got was this list.
- 1:18SPEAKER_04: I have several lists.
- 1:19SPEAKER_04: There's three.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: There's three lists.
- 1:21SPEAKER_04: There's one in particular artist that's on all three lists.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah?
- 1:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the who is of my era.
- 1:30SPEAKER_04: Well, kind of of my era.
- 1:32SPEAKER_04: And that's Joan Jett.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: Oh, 100%.
- 1:34SPEAKER_04: In the Black Arts.
- 1:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's a true woman of rock and roll.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: I would say so.
- 1:38SPEAKER_04: But after talking to you, I mean, you know, there's great ones on here too.
- 1:41SPEAKER_04: Annie Annie Lennox in the top 100, she's like in the number two, Cindy Lauper, which makes perfect sense.
- 1:46SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 1:47SPEAKER_04: Pat Benatar, um Chrissy Kine.
- 1:51SPEAKER_04: I didn't know that was her name for the pretenders.
- 1:54SPEAKER_04: I absolutely adore her voice.
- 1:56SPEAKER_04: Uh Ann Wilson, Grace Slick, Joni Mitchell.
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: I mean, we could go on and on.
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: Stevie Nix.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Stevie Nicks.
- 2:01SPEAKER_04: How can you forget any of those, right?
- 2:03SPEAKER_04: But we're gonna this is this list was compiled from Google, and I'm not quite sure what the site was.
- 2:09SPEAKER_04: It doesn't say on here that I finally got it, other than Pinterest, but I know it's not Pinterest.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, at the end of the day, what are these lists?
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: But just kind of somebody's uh opinion or an amalgam.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: It's just a reflection of how Well I go ahead, I'm sorry.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's just a reflection of how our culture sees these women.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: I think they're all, you know, as valid.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: You can't really say who's the best.
- 2:34SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: So these are more as a way to see, well, who are some of the best.
- 2:38SPEAKER_04: I will tell you that some of these were based on number of downloads off of BuzzSprout.
- 2:44SPEAKER_04: Not BuzzSprout, not BuzzSprout, uh Spotify.
- 2:46SPEAKER_04: Spotify.
- 2:47SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay, cool.
- 2:48SPEAKER_04: Because some of them have like 10 million downloads.
- 2:51SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: Um, and and some of the artists that I didn't know, that the ones that I mean, I you know, we pulled one out and you're like, oh, is that so-and-so?
- 2:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:59SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, I don't know who that is.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, I always remember her because Amy Lee's so pretty.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Evanescence.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Amy Lee, love her.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: I see why they put her on the very cover of the article.
- 3:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:09SPEAKER_04: She's very pretty, you're right.
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: Um, but I'm not familiar with her music.
- 3:14SPEAKER_04: I did listen to the song that I did download for us to use, but um I I want to make sure they all get credit.
- 3:20SPEAKER_04: So this is gonna have to be there's a hundred on this list over here.
- 3:24SPEAKER_04: This may have to be a three or four parter.
- 3:26SPEAKER_04: I mean, this yeah, but maybe like the Beatles, because there's like so much to dive into.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, even more so this, because it's having to sort through all these different women's type of, you know, art artist artistry, are their artist styles.
- 3:42SPEAKER_04: Well, and you know, as I listen to some of them, they are all all are a little different in their own right.
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: I mean, it just I I I don't want to use the term catchy, but kind of.
- 3:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, they kind of they have that hook, which all musicians want.
- 3:56SPEAKER_04: When they recreate a song, they want a hook.
- 3:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 3:59SPEAKER_04: And so they all have that special hook that that I enjoy.
- 4:04SPEAKER_04: Some of them, well, all of them that I heard, uh a great dance tune, whether it be fast or slow.
- 4:09SPEAKER_04: So I'm really major excited to be doing this.
- 4:13SPEAKER_04: And you know, it's rock and roll's been dominated by men for the most part from the very beginning.
- 4:19SPEAKER_04: Um it's that oozing machismo, is that what they call it?
- 4:22SPEAKER_04: Machismo?
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'd say machismo.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: It's you know, it's once again uh just kind of a masculine fantasy.
- 4:29SPEAKER_04: These women are gonna prove that they uh are just as good as the male contemporaries, uh, but they could even outperform them too.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 4:38SPEAKER_04: So I'm really excited.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: I've seen a lot of uh I haven't seen any of these women in concert, which I would love to.
- 4:45SPEAKER_04: I would love to have seen Pat Penotark when she was here.
- 4:48SPEAKER_04: Um I don't know who else has actually been here, but I I don't think I've ever seen an actual one of those ladies.
- 4:55SPEAKER_04: You know, I'm a Barney Reagan fan, but she doesn't fall into rock and roll.
- 4:58SPEAKER_04: She's more of a blues kind of player.
- 5:02SPEAKER_04: Um pink didn't show up on here, probably too new, I would think.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: I wonder too.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'd say Lady Gaga.
- 5:11SPEAKER_04: Lady Gaga might be on this 100 in pink too, but I I didn't I didn't go through every name.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: Well, it it depends on your definition of rock and roll, too.
- 5:18SPEAKER_04: Well, that's a good point.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: Like, is pink.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: I would define pink as rock and roll, like very modern day rock and roll.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, maybe even pop.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, pop.
- 5:27SPEAKER_04: That's probably yeah, that's probably more.
- 5:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, see, I'm getting them mixed up.
- 5:31SPEAKER_04: But yeah, further here on the chart, there's Kim Carnes, Debbie Gibson.
- 5:34SPEAKER_04: Oh, you know, I wasn't a big fan of Debbie Gibson, but her music is good.
- 5:39SPEAKER_04: Um Bjork.
- 5:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: Bjork.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: I've never really listened to Bjork's music, but um, yes.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: People love Bjork.
- 5:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:49SPEAKER_04: Well, I think it's just because of the name.
- 5:51SPEAKER_04: Who are you listening to?
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: Bjork.
- 5:52SPEAKER_04: Bjork.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's excuse you.
- 5:55unknown: Yeah.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: It just feeds into that, like, that's all I know about the Icelandic language.
- 6:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: Bjork?
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: Bjork.
- 6:01SPEAKER_04: Well, I'm thinking it's fitting to start this thing off with Joan Jett.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 6:06SPEAKER_04: Only because I love rock and roll.
- 6:09SPEAKER_04: I mean, how's that for a segue for you?
- 7:20SPEAKER_09: Well, God, I love Joan Jett in the black hearts.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: Me too.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: I absolutely dance with her.
- 9:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 9:11SPEAKER_04: Oh, oh, in a heartbeat.
- 9:13SPEAKER_04: In a black heartbeat.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: In a black heartbeat.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: I'd say she's so successful with her branding.
- 9:18SPEAKER_02: Like, not only is she a hard rockin' chick, her name's Joan Jett.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: I was like five years old, and I listened to that song.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: My mom said it was by Joan Jett, and it's like been ingrained in my brain forever.
- 9:30SPEAKER_04: Ever since.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: Black hair, leather pants.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: She knows how to look like a big thing.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: Tattoos.
- 9:34SPEAKER_04: I love her tattoos, yeah.
- 9:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I would love to see her in concert.
- 9:38SPEAKER_04: She's a bucket list for me, concert-wise.
- 9:41SPEAKER_04: Good choice.
- 9:41SPEAKER_04: All right, so Ren, what do you got?
- 9:43SPEAKER_04: What do you who you want to go with?
- 9:44SPEAKER_04: I know you were you were eyeballing this lady.
- 9:47SPEAKER_04: Do you want to go with Juliet?
- 9:48SPEAKER_04: Or do you want to?
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go with uh Amy, Amy Lee first.
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: Amy Lee.
- 9:52SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: Because I like talking about Amy Lee.
- 9:55SPEAKER_04: She is so, so pretty.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: Oh, she's got a gorgeous voice too.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: My mom um had a period where she really kind of liked sort of like heavy metal music, but not the Screamo stuff.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: She liked Amy Lee because Evanescence, her band, did very gothic metal stuff.
- 10:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it says right here gothic metal and pop.
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but her voice is beautiful, but in a way we're like, you know, powerful.
- 10:17SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: You buy the gothic fantasy she's selling.
- 10:20SPEAKER_04: But you know, she looks so innocent in this picture.
- 10:23SPEAKER_04: She doesn't look like a goth person in the picture.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean, look at that black necklace.
- 10:27SPEAKER_02: Well, that's true.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: Look at that next one.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: That's a black heart, too, on the field.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: Maybe she's a Joan Jet fan.
- 10:32SPEAKER_04: She could be.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: Well, I've only heard her stuff though with Evanescence, so I noticed this is uh solo.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: Her solo stuff, so I'm really excited to listen to it personally.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: Let's give it a shot.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Love exists.
- 10:45SPEAKER_04: Of course it does.
- 11:04SPEAKER_08: In the last place you'd expect, in a way you'd never dream.
- 11:09SPEAKER_08: If we're all from nothing, you'll blossom in a second.
- 11:13SPEAKER_08: A single glance is all it takes to get inside you.
- 11:21SPEAKER_08: I can make a stronger, I can leave your speech.
- 11:25SPEAKER_08: Love past a thousand steps, but only one thumb.
- 11:34SPEAKER_08: It can grow alone till it turns to dust.
- 11:37SPEAKER_08: It can tear your world apart or bind to you forever.
- 11:42SPEAKER_08: It can grow in darkness, make its own light, turn a curse into a kiss, change the meaning of your word.
- 11:50SPEAKER_08: Love makes no sense.
- 12:39SPEAKER_08: I'm telling you, my feelings.
- 12:48SPEAKER_08: It can make you better, it can change you slowly, and give you everything you want.
- 12:54SPEAKER_08: As for nothing original.
- 12:56SPEAKER_08: In the blink of an eye, in the hint of a smile, in the way you say goodbye, and every time you find me.
- 13:05SPEAKER_08: Love makes no sense.
- 13:07SPEAKER_08: Love has no name.
- 13:09SPEAKER_08: Love trying to feel something since you're love has no fear.
- 14:13SPEAKER_12: You're like pouring through these documents after document of women.
- 14:18SPEAKER_04: Alison Stratton, have you heard of Young Marble Giants is her band.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, it sounds fun.
- 14:25SPEAKER_04: It does.
- 14:25SPEAKER_04: Oh, this one this one I've got to see.
- 14:27SPEAKER_04: Uh gotta listen to is Kathleen Hanna.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: Kathleen Hanna.
- 14:31SPEAKER_04: The name of her band is Bikini Kill.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: Bikini Kill Rocks! Oh, we should do Bikini Kill next.
- 14:37SPEAKER_04: Oh, so I struck a nerve.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, we're doing Bikini Kill.
- 14:41SPEAKER_04: Okay, I'm good with that.
- 14:42SPEAKER_04: I did not pull that one.
- 14:44SPEAKER_04: Uh there's a lady called Skin.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: Skin?
- 14:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and her band is uh Skunk Anis.
- 14:51SPEAKER_04: Uh no, Anis.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: Anais?
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Skunk Anais.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: Anais.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: I think.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: Um gosh.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: Keyboard isn't working.
- 15:02SPEAKER_04: Lisa Loeb, Rachel Goswell, the band Slow Drive.
- 15:07SPEAKER_04: Eva O is uh Christian Death band.
- 15:10SPEAKER_04: Um Sophie B.
- 15:12SPEAKER_04: Hopkins.
- 15:13SPEAKER_04: Hopkins?
- 15:14SPEAKER_04: I've never heard of her.
- 15:15SPEAKER_04: Seffron.
- 15:16SPEAKER_04: You mentioned that one.
- 15:17SPEAKER_04: I mentioned her, I think.
- 15:18SPEAKER_04: Saffron?
- 15:19SPEAKER_02: Saffron?
- 15:20SPEAKER_04: Seffron.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: Sephiroth?
- 15:23SPEAKER_04: No, I'm pretty sure that's Sephron.
- 15:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Saffron?
- 15:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: Republican.
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: No, so sorry.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: I have not.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: I um I am pretty hip with some things, but I my musical taste is like a middle-aged dad.
- 15:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know.
- 15:39SPEAKER_04: Maybe more, yeah, towards my age.
- 15:42SPEAKER_12: A grandpa now.
- 15:44SPEAKER_12: Oh no.
- 15:46SPEAKER_04: But you know, we love you still, Ren.
- 15:48SPEAKER_04: It's okay.
- 15:49SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 15:49SPEAKER_04: I told you that you're you're an old soul.
- 15:52SPEAKER_04: That's all there is to it.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 15:54SPEAKER_04: Okay, so what did you pull?
- 15:55SPEAKER_04: I know you were wanted to hear that one.
- 15:56SPEAKER_04: What was the what was the artist that we're doing again?
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: Uh Bikini Kill.
- 15:59SPEAKER_04: I was just trying to kill some time for you.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: I noticed you were flipping through your pages.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: I appreciated it.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh, this is Rebel Girl.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: This is a really good punk rock rebel girl anthem.
- 16:09SPEAKER_04: Lay some rebel on me.
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, it's just solid and it's uh really, you know, pro women.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Women standing together.
- 18:48SPEAKER_04: She's Yeah, I like that.
- 18:50SPEAKER_04: All right, so we're trying to do the top ten, too, as well.
- 18:53SPEAKER_04: So of all time.
- 18:54SPEAKER_04: And uh Joan Jett was uh number 10, which I think she should be higher on the list.
- 18:58SPEAKER_04: Some of these I think should be higher on the list, too, but we'll discuss that as we go.
- 19:02SPEAKER_04: This I these folks I've never heard of ever.
- 19:06SPEAKER_04: Um but they were most influential British singers of the rock era, which was for the ladies, was in the 80s.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: So this is Suzy Sue and the Banshees, is that right?
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: Susie and the Banshees, I've heard of them before.
- 19:23SPEAKER_04: Have you?
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:25SPEAKER_04: Well, it she's supposedly one of the most influential British singers of the rock era.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: Error?
- 19:32SPEAKER_04: Error.
- 19:33SPEAKER_04: Error.
- 19:34unknown: Er?
- 19:34SPEAKER_04: Era.
- 19:35SPEAKER_04: No, not not it wasn't a mistake.
- 19:37SPEAKER_04: But she's got too, and punk.
- 19:40SPEAKER_04: Post-punk, it's they're calling her.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: So she was another woman who uh absolutely knew her branding.
- 20:26SPEAKER_04: She but she says right here, she was not fond of being called anything.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: Anything?
- 20:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, she didn't want to be called anything.
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: She once said what I really recent resent.
- 20:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, thank you.
- 20:39SPEAKER_04: I thought that was a C.
- 20:40SPEAKER_04: Resent about people sticking labels on you is that it cuts off the other elements of what you are because it only deals with black and white, the cartoons.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: The caricature.
- 20:54SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, fair.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: That's always a joke, you know.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: Like, please, my pronouns are nothing.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: Don't refer to me, don't talk to me, don't look at me.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: It's a you know, kind of a joke online.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:07SPEAKER_04: I can relate to that feeling.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, I got I got one of her songs queued up.
- 21:10SPEAKER_04: Okay, great.
- 21:10SPEAKER_04: What you got cued up over there?
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: Uh this one is The Passenger.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: This has the the most downloads on Spotify.
- 21:17SPEAKER_04: Oh, fantastic.
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: Anxious to hear it.
- 22:15SPEAKER_08: I want to put that.
- 22:18SPEAKER_08: I don't want to put it back to the bottom.
- 23:11SPEAKER_08: The bright and far lost guys see the stars that dance the prize stars make for us Oh Path and Dirk How I would drive Oh Pascal Drive It looks through his window What does it say?
- 23:48SPEAKER_08: It's just that it's that come out now It's it's right out It's the one who's right And everything was made for you All the bit was made for you to take the ride what windows die I love And all of it if we go to mine And all of it for you to mine But it's not a lot of Then I'll make you feel like you know possibly I'm a tell my selling my home Yeah Well you know you got it If it makes you feel good Oh yes indeed you're out on the streets Looking good beep it deep down in your heart I guess you're not a here man Wanna cry but I cry all the time But each time I tell myself When I face that pain whole before I stay in the monster You know you got it makes you feel good Janice baby Janice Joplin was a cut above the rest you know that this is a script that was written, but I I feel that because of her raw, blozy, powerful voice, she was unlike any other singer in the 60s.
- 30:41SPEAKER_04: Her career was cut short by an untimely death, but even so she left an inevitable mark in rock.
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: We still talk about her, we still reference her today.
- 30:59SPEAKER_04: I had to pick this one for a reason.
- 31:00SPEAKER_04: I don't know that it was her bestseller, but it was up there.
- 31:04SPEAKER_04: I think her best seller, if I remember right, let me see if I can find that.
- 31:09SPEAKER_04: Was Crybaby.
- 31:11SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 31:13SPEAKER_04: But I was you a young lady in the in the 80s.
- 31:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think it was 80s, and I was a country singer.
- 31:24SPEAKER_04: And I tried to get her to do this song in the country.
- 31:28SPEAKER_04: I wanted her to do it in the country version because I thought that's a country too, making that happen.
- 31:34SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 31:35SPEAKER_04: And so she refused because she didn't like this, she didn't like the way she sang her screened her lyrics and that kind of stuff, and I tried to tell her, you know, that's the song.
- 31:44SPEAKER_04: You know, but she didn't she couldn't quite grasp that.
- 31:47SPEAKER_04: Fast forward ten years later, Fake Hill takes it to the top ten of the country charts.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: This you could have had a number one hit with this girl, but she was too backwards thinking.
- 32:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and think of all the money I could have been making.
- 32:08SPEAKER_04: Well, I think all the money she could have been making.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's true.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: I say this as though you're like her manager.
- 32:13SPEAKER_04: Well, I would have.
- 32:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I I would have gotten some kind of credit because I just kept going on.
- 32:18SPEAKER_04: You need to I said, I have a band, I know that they can do this country for us.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: That does sound very managery.
- 32:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: Oh well.
- 32:26SPEAKER_04: So, anyway.
- 32:27SPEAKER_04: So here's the deal, Rand.
- 32:28SPEAKER_04: If I come up with another idea like that for a singer, guess who I'm going to approach with that?
- 32:33SPEAKER_04: Is it me?
- 32:34SPEAKER_04: Yes, I am.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: Please do, because I have no qualms about covering any songs.
- 32:38SPEAKER_04: So there's another one that I want to do that I think ought to be country.
- 32:41SPEAKER_04: That's Band of Gold.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: Band of Gold?
- 32:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, look that up.
- 32:45SPEAKER_04: I think Freedom Pain is the singer.
- 32:47SPEAKER_04: Band of Gold, yeah.
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: Band of Gold.
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: I'll look it up.
- 32:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, look it up.
- 32:51SPEAKER_04: Listen to it.
- 32:51SPEAKER_04: It's a 60s tune as well, but you know, it's about being left at the altar.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: Oh, once again, very country.
- 32:58SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 33:01SPEAKER_04: And I think it's been done, recut in the country, but I don't think anybody's got it up the charts very far.
- 33:06SPEAKER_04: But it's a it's it's dying to be done uh in country, in my opinion.
- 33:11SPEAKER_02: Man, I don't even know if I can sing in a country voice.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: I can.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: Give me a couple of weeks, I'll figure it out.
- 33:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I yeah, I ran.
- 33:19SPEAKER_04: You, my dear, can do anything.
- 33:21SPEAKER_04: Keep that in mind.
- 33:23SPEAKER_04: All right, so uh I'm gonna let you pick now from their from any chart.
- 33:26SPEAKER_04: I mean, they're the 21.
- 33:28SPEAKER_04: Uh one of those ladies, if you'd like, because you were talking about one of them.
- 33:31SPEAKER_04: I don't remember which one it was now that you knew as well.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: Um, was it uh Taylor Momsen?
- 33:37SPEAKER_04: Maybe yeah, maybe that's what it was.
- 33:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the from the uh the Pretty Reckless, I think is the name.
- 33:42SPEAKER_04: She also has a podcast, which I found out while I was kind of perusing through stuff.
- 33:47SPEAKER_02: Fun.
- 33:48SPEAKER_04: Um you know uh Oh, she's the hot one too.
- 33:50SPEAKER_04: Oh my god, yes, the long, blonde hair with the long.
- 33:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, she she's leggy, she's got the she's got the heavy raccoon eyes, which I think looks really cool in a rock girl.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: Have you ever seen the Jim Carrey Grinch movie?
- 34:04SPEAKER_04: I have, love it.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: You know the little Cindy Lou Who?
- 34:07SPEAKER_04: That's her?
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: That's her.
- 34:08SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh, yeah.
- 34:09SPEAKER_04: I fell in love with her then.
- 34:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right?
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: As a charming little girl, and then she grew up and and you know had her rebellious phase that just never stopped, and now she's a gosh dang rock star.
- 34:19SPEAKER_04: She's a gospel girl star, it says here.
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: Already gone deep down the rabbit hole of a second career in rock and roll.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, I know some super fans of hers, but I've never really listened to her stuff, so I'm excited.
- 34:34SPEAKER_04: Let's see what goes down.
- 34:35SPEAKER_04: I'm game.
- 34:37SPEAKER_04: You're game e.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: That joke, it makes me want to die.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: Just kidding, that's the name of the song.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: Make me wanna die, pretty reckless.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: I wondered how long it was gonna take.
- 35:12SPEAKER_07: Never was a girl with a wicked mind, but everything looks better when the sun goes down.
- 35:20SPEAKER_07: I had everything, opportunities for eternity, and I do belong to the night.
- 35:32SPEAKER_07: I can see in your eyes, your eyes.
- 35:38SPEAKER_07: You make me wanna die, I'll never be good enough.
- 35:43unknown: You make me wanna die, and everything you love will run up in the eye every time I die.
- 35:58SPEAKER_07: You make me wanna die, drink my soul.
- 36:12SPEAKER_07: Show me all the things that I shouldn't know when there's a blue moon on the rise I had everything, opportunities for eternity, and life would belong to the night, your eyes, I can see in your eyes, your eyes, everything you're eyes.
- 36:43SPEAKER_07: You make me wanna die, I'll never be good enough.
- 36:48SPEAKER_08: You make me wanna die, and everything you love, open up in the light, and every time I can decide you wanna die all out.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: Cindy Lou Who.
- 38:30SPEAKER_04: Cindy Lou Who, I you know, she was one of my favorite characters.
- 38:34SPEAKER_04: Oh, she was.
- 38:35SPEAKER_04: She was actually the one the most cutest, too, but she's even cuter now.
- 38:39SPEAKER_04: Um Dave is a crush.
- 38:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and I do, but well, she's way too young for me, obviously.
- 38:46SPEAKER_04: But you know, she you guys could be sisters.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, easily.
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, she's like that total uh, you know, punk princess.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, vibe.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: Once again, ah, I keep saying this.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: All these women, they're great with their branding.
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: Yes, exactly.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: The chunky boots and the uh the mascara.
- 39:04SPEAKER_04: Is that what you call those chunky boots?
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah.
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: Anytime it looks chunky on her on someone oversized.
- 39:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they're fantastic, I'll tell you.
- 39:12SPEAKER_04: So, alright, so that was all for this list.
- 39:14SPEAKER_04: I mean, you know what?
- 39:15SPEAKER_04: We can let's do one more off of this list, too.
- 39:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I got I got one coming up just because the picture of this lady looks interesting.
- 39:21SPEAKER_04: She looks interesting, doesn't she?
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Betty Moon.
- 39:23SPEAKER_04: I love the big daisies on her clouds.
- 39:26SPEAKER_04: I mean, she looks like major old fashioned, but for some reason I don't think she's gonna be.
- 39:31SPEAKER_04: She's had a career I never heard of this woman in 20 years, I think.
- 39:36SPEAKER_04: Uh she's known for being a Canadian and US-based music tour.
- 39:51SPEAKER_04: Uh this is gonna be old.
- 40:03SPEAKER_02: I got this one called part of it, yeah.
- 40:09SPEAKER_04: I you know, I can't I think it's the same lyrics as the blues colors that somebody that does somebody you love, but it's a lot slower.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: Should we do parachute instead?
- 40:18SPEAKER_04: Whatever you want.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: I don't need a parachute.
- 40:20SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 40:21SPEAKER_04: Can you find it quick enough?
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think I can.
- 40:23SPEAKER_04: Do I need to kill any more time?
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, kill a little time.
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: Make a joke.
- 40:32SPEAKER_04: Uh let's see.
- 40:33SPEAKER_04: Um her uh unique rock and roll style and voice earned Moon a major label record deal in her teens, which set the stage for her continued success throughout the years.
- 40:45SPEAKER_04: As of March 2018, Moon officially reached number five on the new Canadian music global chart.
- 40:52SPEAKER_04: I don't know what it is today, four years later, but in 2018, we're prompt, Ryan, no matter how long it takes.
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: No matter what people say, we are with the times, okay?
- 41:03SPEAKER_02: I got the song.
- 41:04SPEAKER_04: This is twenty this is 2021's top.
- 41:07SPEAKER_04: So why would they say talk about 1960 movement of rock and roll?
- 41:11SPEAKER_02: They probably copy and pasted it from somewhere.
- 41:13SPEAKER_04: You're probably right.
- 41:14SPEAKER_04: Uh it's called It's From Wonders List, is where I'm getting mad at you.
- 41:17SPEAKER_02: Unless she's been like touring for the same album for the last five years.
- 41:22SPEAKER_02: Some people do that.
- 41:23SPEAKER_04: Possible, I suppose.
- 41:24SPEAKER_02: Well, uh, yeah.
- 41:25SPEAKER_04: She's cute too.
- 41:26SPEAKER_04: She's kind of frumpy.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: Frumpy.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: That's grandma chic, Rhett Dave.
- 41:31SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: Oh gosh.
- 41:33SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 41:33SPEAKER_02: And she's probably bigger in Canada than in the US, too.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: That's what I was gonna say.
- 41:55SPEAKER_08: All the purple light, breaking out to the sky.
- 44:33SPEAKER_04: It was all right.
- 44:33SPEAKER_04: I I kinda I honestly it it sounds as frumpy as she as she looks.
- 44:40SPEAKER_04: You are brutal today with the reeds.
- 44:42SPEAKER_04: But I it was okay.
- 44:43SPEAKER_04: And I think it was, you know, I think most of that, and I think that's the way a lot of this music is nowadays, is all synthesized, and I don't know.
- 44:51SPEAKER_04: I wonder how many musicians are actually playing.
- 44:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: You say that, but I heard a drum kit, I heard a bass, I heard a guitar, but they were probably digitally mixed.
- 45:01SPEAKER_04: But you have headset on, so I don't in May.
- 45:04SPEAKER_02: There were there were definitely synths in it.
- 45:07SPEAKER_02: But there were definitely I heard instruments.
- 45:10SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:11SPEAKER_04: Well, um, yeah, I think it's um I I I I have respect for m any of these women that have gotten this far in a what was traditionally a male's world.
- 45:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, uh they definitely, in my opinion, uh and I think of machise mode, did you hear that guy on the motorcycle?
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: Jeez, I'm not sure.
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's showing off.
- 45:31SPEAKER_04: Um in my opinion, I think uh some of them are uh even head and shoulders above some of the men.
- 45:39SPEAKER_04: For sure.
- 45:39SPEAKER_02: Oh, I agree.
- 45:40SPEAKER_02: I think it's all about taste, you know.
- 45:41SPEAKER_02: It's it's you know, not even a to me, what it is all about is it not being a competition, but just being like, yeah, women have a way of doing their artistry, men have a way of doing their artistry, and it's just preference.
- 45:55SPEAKER_04: That's a good that's a solid point.
- 45:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: Egalitarianism.
- 46:01SPEAKER_04: Is that what it's called?
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: I guess.
- 46:03SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 46:03SPEAKER_02: I always call it feminism, you know, but that's just uh the start for me.
- 46:07SPEAKER_04: Um and you know, my mom was a big feminist.
- 46:10SPEAKER_04: So um I think she was probably the original feminist in New Mexico, if you want to know the absolute truth.
- 46:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:17SPEAKER_04: You know, she uh she would she the first words she taught my daughter, my oldest, to say were I I am woman, hear me roar.
- 46:25SPEAKER_08: You know.
- 46:25SPEAKER_04: So yeah, but it's just the way she was.
- 46:27SPEAKER_04: So I was brought up in that atmosphere.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: Oh, I've never taken that's that's I think why we got along so well.
- 46:34SPEAKER_02: Is I've never taken anything you've done or said is like I don't know, misogynistic.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: I hate to overuse that word.
- 46:40SPEAKER_04: Uh but I don't even know what it means, but I'm glad because it does it didn't sound good.
- 46:44SPEAKER_04: So I'm Yeah.
- 46:46SPEAKER_02: It's just like, you know, being um sexist.
- 46:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, dumb that down for me, really.
- 46:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, I'll say that.
- 46:52SPEAKER_02: You've never done anything sexist.
- 46:54SPEAKER_04: I I try not to be, I have caught myself a couple of times, uh, you know, but I I think it's the male thing uh more than anything.
- 47:01SPEAKER_04: But yeah, I I we're equal, you know.
- 47:04SPEAKER_04: I've always stood up for uh making sure that the women that work for me got the this equal pay for the if they were doing the equal job.
- 47:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah you know, and I don't think men should get equal pay if they're not doing the equal job.
- 47:17SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say at that point, that goes both ways.
- 47:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, exactly.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: So just do your job, you'll get paid.
- 47:21SPEAKER_04: That's exactly right.
- 47:22SPEAKER_04: And it shouldn't matter whether you're male, female, white, black, purple, green.
- 47:26SPEAKER_04: It doesn't make any difference whatsoever.
- 47:28SPEAKER_02: So and it's uh I think that's the overall goal, is that we all just want to be able to treat each other the same.
- 47:36SPEAKER_04: Here's me, here's me agreeding.
- 47:38SPEAKER_02: Agreed.
- 47:39SPEAKER_04: Agreed.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: Let's agree to agree.
- 47:41SPEAKER_04: Very oh, hey, that's a new one.
- 47:43SPEAKER_04: I kind of like that.
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: Me too.
- 47:44SPEAKER_04: All right, well, let's go back to some of because I know I know some of these on here are some of your favorites.
- 47:48SPEAKER_04: As a matter of fact, we even did a tribute to this next one.
- 47:51SPEAKER_04: She's number seven as we count down.
- 47:54SPEAKER_02: As we count down, count down.
- 47:56SPEAKER_04: She's number seven, and I absolutely adore her.
- 47:59SPEAKER_04: Have uh Tammy, we had Tammy Reisner on from Encore Coffee, one of our sponsors, and she was a major Stevie Nicks fan.
- 48:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we did a little uh uh spotlight episode.
- 48:09SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 48:09SPEAKER_04: Now she has she she's best remembered for Fleetwood Mac, obviously, but she's also been a solo artist.
- 48:16SPEAKER_04: Uh she's pinned numerous classic hits that remain staples in the radio stations to this day, including Dreams, um, and the one that we're getting ready to play, I think is the one that you have available.
- 48:28SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 48:29SPEAKER_04: So she's kind of she's kind of she's kind of getting a resurgent.
- 48:34SPEAKER_04: She's kind of coming back strong here and number more and more on radio.
- 48:38SPEAKER_04: So I think she's kind of making her way back.
- 48:40SPEAKER_04: I love this is a Fleetwood Mac tune, but she is the lead vocal for this song.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: And we all know she was the creative force behind a lot of these songs, too.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: Oh, absolutely.
- 48:48SPEAKER_02: She was not just a singer for hire.
- 48:49SPEAKER_04: No, not just a pretty face.
- 48:51SPEAKER_04: Um, she was a very sharp young lady.
- 48:54SPEAKER_04: Well, older lady now.
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:56SPEAKER_04: Mature.
- 48:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:57SPEAKER_04: Manure, as my mom would say.
- 48:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:59SPEAKER_04: Manure.
- 48:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, manure lady.
- 49:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let's honor Stevie Nicks.
- 49:03SPEAKER_02: Here's the manure lady.
- 49:07SPEAKER_12: Two shovels.
- 49:09SPEAKER_12: We mean that in a very loving way.
- 49:11SPEAKER_04: Oh, absolutely.
- 49:29SPEAKER_08: So I'm back to the villain, but on the ground where to go that I love to a room with some lace and vape flowers back to the gypsy.
- 50:21SPEAKER_08: When you know that it does, let me go, and let's see how you say you see all the shit.
- 51:03SPEAKER_08: This is freedom.
- 51:34SPEAKER_08: She was dancing.
- 51:41SPEAKER_08: She was dancing.
- 51:43SPEAKER_08: She was dancing.
- 51:49SPEAKER_08: And a memory so that you know, you see what you say.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: Hate 'em or love 'em.
- 53:41SPEAKER_00: New or classic, Wren rants on the mall.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: Here's Ren.
- 53:47SPEAKER_02: Um, I I always get so hype with that song.
- 53:50SPEAKER_02: Um I'm a simple woman.
- 53:55SPEAKER_02: I was I was gonna I was gonna let it go so that it would have like 15 seconds of the.
- 53:59SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's okay.
- 54:01SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry, I thought you forgot for a second because you looked like you were really into the mic.
- 54:06SPEAKER_04: I should trust you more, Ren.
- 54:07SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry.
- 54:08SPEAKER_04: I was worried about you for just a second.
- 54:10SPEAKER_02: And you know what, Dave?
- 54:11SPEAKER_02: That fits in perfectly with the film that I'm reviewing today.
- 54:14SPEAKER_04: Oh, good, good.
- 54:15SPEAKER_04: I can hardly wait.
- 54:16SPEAKER_04: This is me sitting on the edge of my chair, pins and needles, because my butt's asleep.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: All right, okay.
- 54:26SPEAKER_02: No, we're good, but uh I was on uh Pins and Needles watching Disney Pixar's new film, Lightyear.
- 54:34SPEAKER_02: Um, it was very cute.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: Uh based on Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story.
- 54:39SPEAKER_04: Oh, I love Tim Allen's voice in it too.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: No, this is kind of an interesting take on it.
- 54:44SPEAKER_02: The context for the film, I think they say it in the beginning.
- 54:46SPEAKER_02: I missed the very beginning because I was getting snacks, but I was filled in by my friend.
- 54:49SPEAKER_02: He said, um, the film is the movie that Andy saw in 1995 that inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy.
- 55:00SPEAKER_02: So it's played very straight.
- 55:01SPEAKER_02: Like this is a a sci-fi character movie.
- 55:05SPEAKER_02: And um it's really fun, it's really cute.
- 55:08SPEAKER_02: Like, if your kids drag you to it, that's a good one.
- 55:12SPEAKER_04: Let them drag you to it.
- 55:13SPEAKER_04: Let them drag you to it.
- 55:14SPEAKER_02: The animation's great.
- 55:15SPEAKER_02: Chris Evans, you know, Captain America plays Buzz Lightyear.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, no kidding.
- 55:19SPEAKER_04: I love Captain America.
- 55:20SPEAKER_02: He's one of the few people I think who can play that role really well.
- 55:22SPEAKER_04: I agree.
- 55:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and um, there's a lot of good lessons in it.
- 55:25SPEAKER_02: Very, you know, obvious ham-fisted lessons for the kids to be able to really know what's going on, but it's all about trusting your team and working together and and admitting when you need help.
- 55:38SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 55:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 55:39SPEAKER_04: So is it the catchphrase still there?
- 55:41SPEAKER_04: To infinity?
- 55:42SPEAKER_02: And beyond, absolutely.
- 55:43SPEAKER_02: And it feels natural.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: It didn't feel forced, and there's some really fun, like Star Trek style science fiction stuff going on.
- 55:50SPEAKER_04: Is Woody around at all?
- 55:51SPEAKER_04: Or is he thinking?
- 55:54SPEAKER_02: I I looked out for him, but he wasn't there.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: No, there's just some really cool like sci-fi concepts in there.
- 55:59SPEAKER_02: It's a sci-fi film, um, really neat.
- 56:01SPEAKER_04: Does he get a girlfriend?
- 56:03SPEAKER_02: Uh no, he gets uh an adorable robot cat sidekick named Socks.
- 56:08SPEAKER_04: Socks.
- 56:09SPEAKER_02: And I was like, I am not gonna like socks.
- 56:12SPEAKER_02: And then socks ended up being super charming and adorable, so I might have to get a socks toy.
- 56:18SPEAKER_02: Which is what they wanted.
- 56:21SPEAKER_04: Fantastic.
